Basement Corridor

To get to the basement level of Hogwarts, you need only go through the door located on the right-hand side of the marble staircase in the Entrance Hall. After doing so, you will find yourself in a broad stone corridor that -- contrary to the cold, damp corridors of the dungeons -- is warm and brightly lit with numerous torches. The atmosphere in this part of the castle is inviting, so feel free to stroll around aimlessly.

Though there are suits of armour scattered about here and there, it is the cheerful pictures placed on the walls that capture your attention. Rather than depicting famous witches and wizards, on display is a rather tasteful spread that will get your mouth watering instantaneously. Within each frame are paintings of food, from pots of soup, gourmet meals on silver plates, bowls of ice cream, boxes of glazed doughnuts, and more. If you weren't hungry before, you likely are now. It's a good thing that the kitchen is somewhere around here, right?

Mamie had been in the common room, and needed a walk, as one did. She found herself...not far from where she had started from, but was delighted by the food paintings on the walls. There was a portrait of soup, in particular, that reminded her of home. She really missed her family's cooking. Normally her Babulya would have sent her some homemade sweets by now, too.

She wondered if her Babulya had still tried to mail them and...where the little cakes could be. Surely Mamie wasn't the only one who got care packages from home. Maybe if her family had been wizards, her Babulya could even mail soup to her. Was that something wizards could do? She'd have to ask someone. How heavy of a package could owls even carry?

Maybe the Neo-Alliance had eaten all the food packages they intercepted.

Mamie lost track of how long she'd been standing, thinking about soup.

Mamie!

Delaney was starving. Literally starving. The kind of hungry where your stomach cramps and at any moment you could collapse from exhaustion... or she could just be playing up the dramatics. Regardless, when Delaney had gone down the the great hall to find something to eat she had found the place littered with Neo Alliance member at every table and she had turned right back around. There was no way she was going to sit next to a bunch of crazies if could avoid it. But that still left the problem of her grumbling stomach. She had a plan however. Not a great plan but it was a start. Delaney had heard a rumor that somewhere along the basement corridor one could find the entrance to the school's kitchen which sounded like the perfect solution to the Slytherin's problem.

Walking slowing down the hallway, Delaney couldn't help but notice the abundance of food related portraits along the walls. That had to be a sign that she was close. As she wandered further down the hall she recognized a figure a big of the ways down, "Mamie!" Delaney waved wildly at the second year as she quickened her pace, "What are you doing down here?"

Mamie jumped as she was startled from her soup reverie. She took a few steps in the direction of the Hufflepuff common room before she realized...it was Delaney! Not a Neo-Alliance bad guy. Obviously. The Neo-Alliance scary people didn't know her name, she was fairly certain.

"Hi, Delaney," she said with a relieved smile. "I was...ah...wandering." She knew it was dangerous to wander around alone as a Muggle-born, but, y'know what? A basement common room could make a kid need to stretch her legs. She tilted her head. "What are you doing? Here to look at portraits of soup?"

"Errr portraits of soup were not of my agenda this morning but I suppose I could squeeze it in ..." Delaney said with a giggle. She even took a moment to dramatically study the picture in front of the pair, stroking her chin in contemplation. "Actually, speaking of soup, I came down here because I'm hungry.... I heard some older kids mention the kitchens were around here somewhere," She glanced down one end of the hallway and then the other to make sure the coast was clear before leaning in to whisper, "I'm trying to avoid the Great Hall and all the Alliance members."

Mamie giggled too. It was funny to see an eleven-year-old talking about her daily agenda! This little Slytherin was clearly going places. Or, at least, she had a more organized daily routine than Mamie. One or the other. Especially...avoiding the Great Hall sounded like a pretty good idea.

"The kitchens?" Mamie said. "I know where the kitchens are!" Maisie had asked the right Hufflepuff. Plus, staring at the soup picture had given Mamie a hankering for an orange. She took a few steps down the hallway and gestured for Maisie to follow her. "I'll show you, even, I'm hungry too."
