| | |  Windows to the Lake
From afar, one might think that the windows in the Slytherin Common Room just haven't been washed in twenty years. But when you get closer or look harder, you might see a fish flash before your eyes. Or maybe a kelpie. Or perhaps a tentacle of the Giant Squid.
The Slytherin Common Room resides in the Dungeons of Hogwarts, meaning they are underground. What else is underground, you may ask? Why, the Lake, of course. These windows give you a marvelous view of the Black Lake. Most creatures in the lake tend to like their privacy, so you won't see them all the time, but you can usually see quite a few mindless fish and other things swimming around. In fact, you could spend hours out here watching the creatures of the lake swim by and probably still miss a creature or two that lives in this vast underwater world! Just don't go tapping on the glass. You never know what might pop up to tap back.

Zayn was beginning to lose all hope. For quite some time, he remained quite still without saying a word as he sat at one of the tables near the windows. Of course, he wasn't sure how long he had been sitting there, still and quiet as a statue, with his eyes focused on the crystal ball that was in front of him. Nothing. He could see nothing but his vague reflection.
Honestly, why had he taken up Divination? This was all a bunch of hogwash.
The fleeting thought broke his concentration, causing him to look away from the sphere and out the window. Brown eyes followed a few fish as they swam by. A snort escaped his throat as he crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair. Could probably predict more from their movement than a stupid ball of crystal.
Needless to say, he was quite sour that Divination, a class that was supposed to be an easy O, was proving to be such a thorn in his side. Was it too late to switch to Arithmancy or Ancient Runes?

The bundle of nerves that had become Aboli sat right next to the younger snake, and she felt herself relax as she did so. Ever since she had come back from Christmas break, she had felt...lost. Like she was gliding through the motions. She hadn't really made any effort with friends or...anything.
She felt alone.
However, that didn't stop her from doing her PREFECT DUTIES, and so she had seen little Zayn looking frustrated. "What's up, mate?" she asked with a small smile. "Couldn't help but notice you over here, alone, looking annoyed...with a crystal ball," she gestured at the one in front of him.

Though normally observant, his frustrations about his failure at crystal ball gazing and the view out the window were keeping him rather preoccupied. When his prefect sat next to him, he didn't notice. The view of the fish swimming about and debating if taking Divination was even worth his time had him lost in thought.
His head quickly jerked to the side when he heard the voice of Aboli Song, and for a second he was surprised to find that she was sitting next to him. How long had she been there? How in Merlin's beard did he not notice that she had been right there?
"Oh... uhh..." Zayn initially responded, blinking as he looked at her to the crystal ball and back again. "Stupid ball isn't doing anything but mock me with its fogginess."
A bit of a pause occurred after before he added, "Think I can drop Divination and replace it with something else? It's not too late in the year for that, right?" He could see a future without the subject to be less frustrating.

Aboli chuckled slightly. "Well...you're letting your frustrations get in the way. I'm a bit of an expert at Divination, you know. My mum's a seer," she smirked and pulled the crystal ball over. "Firstly....did you pay attention in class?" She asked gently. "You need to have a clear thought process in mind...a clear question....and you have to go in knowing you might get nothing out of it," she closed her eyes to focus a little, slipping off her gloves to press her hands to the glass.
Hopefully she'd be able to help Zayn, yes? "Why would you want to drop Divination?! It's one of the chill and relaxed subjects!" she seemed shocked!

He blinked at her, without saying a word, as she spoke. The chuckling and smirking wasn't helping. As for the things Aboli was saying to him, did she really think he hadn't done all of that? Of course he did everything she was asking him about. Zayn wasn't one to miss or skip over necessary steps and details when it came to having successful results.
"Yes, I paid attention in class," he said flatly, watching as the prefect slipped off her gloves. "And I did go into this with a clear mind and a question. Wasn't frustrated at all until after sitting here for nearly an hour only to have nothing happen."
The boy sighed, especially when she mentioned that there was possibility he might get nothing out of it. "Might want to tell Kitridge that. She expects something to come of it."
It didn't matter to him that Divination was probably the chillest class at the school. That wasn't why he initially signed up for it to begin with, but he had reasons for wanting to drop it. "I spend more time having to make things up than anything, honestly. Just seems like I could be doing something more productive and rewarding," he explained with a shrug.

The flat tone did not escape Aboli's notice, but it only made her smirk wider, like Cheshire-catlike. "I was just making sure." Was she being condescending? Perhaps. But Aboli thought she deserved to be condescending sometimes. "What question did you try asking it?" she asked as she pet the crystal ball gently.
"Making things up!? Well, that's fun sometimes. It's creative. You can make a story out of it." Aboli stopped touching the ball and pulled out her journal, still with her hands un-gloved, and plopped right in front of him. "This is my dream journal. And all my interpretations. Some of them are wiiiiiild. But my mum's specialization is in dreams and she gets her visions in her dreams. So I take my dreams very seriously. I enjoy dream stuff more than -" and she gestured wildly at the crystal ball - "That."

To avoid the Cheshire-like smirk, Zayn at this point busied himself with looking out of the window into the depths of the lake. At least there was something to see there, unlike that crystal bell sitting right in front of them. His gaze out of the window didn't last very long since Aboli was asking him about the question he had asked the sphere of disappointment.
"I ... that ... err ... it's personal." And that was all he was going to say on the matter. He honestly didn't know her all too well, and it didn't help that he wasn't exactly the kind of person that felt comfortable sharing most things that were personal anyway.
At the mention of making things up being something that could be fun, his dark brown eyes rolled as he continued to stare out the window. He was listening to Aboli, but wasn't persuaded in the slightest by what she was saying -- he was here to learn and become a better wizard, not make up stuff for a grade.
Though his head did turn when the prefect when the journal was plopped right in front of him. Was he ... supposed to look through it? He looked over at her, hesitant to even touch her journal. "We've not covered dreams. I think that comes up much later in the curriculum." Which was something he was more than likely going to miss out since Divination didn't seem to be in the cards.
