 The walls in the first-floor corridor are covered in tapestries and, hung over them, are portraits of numerous wizards and wizards. Whether you are trying to get to class or are just browsing around, the portraits here will try to start up a conversation with you. If you manage to get on their good side, they'll be willing to reveal secret passageways, share the latest school gossip, and more.
If you have time to spare, definitely go on a brief tangent from whatever it is you are doing. Google Stump is your man to go to if you're looking for answers about the mysteries of the castle; Beaumont Marjoribanks can tell you everything there is to know about gillyweed; and Elizabeth Burke ... well, it would be best to just avoid her for reasons that will be obvious should you strike up a discussion with her about magical blood status. There are other portraits here as well, each with their own unique personalities, and figures from other portraits happen to invade their frames from time to time.

I was mad she made me feel quite CRAP about my own scores and my badge. And now...who knows what she thinks. She often wondered if Val even had the capacity to miss her. Currently, Aboli thought she didn't.
Instead of trying to just awkwardly slip by, she decided to make conversation against her better judgment. "What are you doing here? Looking at the portraits?" she pointed at one of them, an empty frame. She wondered who belonged in it and where they had gone!
Luckily she was wearing her gloves so that her hand!sweat was hidden. Yikes.

She didn't react to the snake's further insults. She didn't care. Aboli had said some terrible things to her and Valencia was over it. Instead, as soon as Aboli turned, Valencia turned her attention back to the portraits.
Valencia did NOT care about Aboli or Aboli's anger issues, or those poor first year Slytherins that were now forced to look up to her. Valencia had her future to worry about and some silly girl from when she was a teenager was not something that was important.

Finneas schmoezied his way down to the first corridor, where he stopped in front of the portraits who were currently receiving their share of touch ups. The paint brushes were making excellent work flying up and down on their own. Their precision was truly immaculate.
To be quite honest, Finneas hadn't ever been one for the lavish. He had an eclectic taste that was best served via the second-hand. But when one has a chest full of gold to serve the castles needs!?! And the portraits were looking rather refreshed... They probably hadn't received some proper TLC in hundreds of years.
Oooh.
New, gold frames were a nice touch. Were they real gold? He had to lean in to get a better look.

Myrtle popped out of the frame Schmoe was leaning in to expect, letting out a good and loud, "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
She swooped up through the man, making sure he got a GOOD and COLD blast, and then hovered near the Ravenclaw girl. "Booo hoo hooo hoo hoo!" What did she have to wail about ? WELL, surely someone would ask? ? ?

They are very shiny… And new.” And rather excessive, but he wasn’t going to say that lest Malachi hear him. The man might not take it well if he heard anything other than praise in regard to the new renovations.

She was ABOUT to mention it when she stumbled back a few steps at a sudden surprise.

"Is... everything alright Myrtle...?" she asked a little hesitantly. It clearly wasn't and she had a feeling that she was about to receive a lengthy explanation. Today was just going to be a weird day for the Ravenclaw.

"Is ANYTHING alright is the better question!" Myrtle cried, despite no tears appearing on her translucent face. She began tugging at one of her pigtails, floating closer to the Muggle Studies professor as though he could protect her, and fluttering her eyelashes from behind her thick specs. "Once again, the staff and students of Hogwarts have -hic- gone meddling in things that don't belong to -hic! HIC!- them!!"
Her hiccups got the best of her then, so she turned herself upside down to float at them as though she were hanging from one of the portraits herself. This could help with anxiety-induced hiccups.

Errrrrrrrrrr. This was awkward, wasn't it? Finneas wasn't good around the undead in general, but Myrtle was an entirely different ordeal. As she floated closer, he took a few apprehensive steps back.
"Oh, er, the..... renovations... You don't..... like them?" Finneas Schmoe was properly stummed. "I think they're rather nice." He looked over at Valencia, hoping she would agree and that the two of them together could stop Myrtle from her tear-less cries.
The courtyard pool was proper fun. Perhaps Myrtle was less enthused because ghosts could not... swim?

Erm. Valencia tilted her head to the side as she watched the ghost float closer to the Professor. Then she went to hang... in a portrait.
"I haven't done anything..." she said slowly, watching. Should she have? Was there a sign up sheet she missed? She quite enjoyed doing things. Although she wasn't quite sure what Myrtle was referring to exactly.
But the Professor seemed to know. "From what I've seen." she replied. Although, she wasn't sure how many of these renovations she had seen. She also wasn't sure why that would cause issues. Surely renovations are done fairly often.
"Is there something specific you're concerned with?" she asked, looking at Myrtle again. That was always the best way to solve a problem -- you know, with identifying it.
