Despite the strange things that were going bump in the night (quite literally) Gabi was determined to make classes as normal as possible. Students needed constant in their lives, and she was going to provide that for them. Teaching was distracting for her as well, so she was able to take her mind off of those golems for just a few hours each day.
On a table in front of Gabi's desk stood a rather large stone goblet. It was about a foot tall, with blue flames flickering in and out of the cup. It was a much smaller replica of its famous cousin, and those who were familiar with it would probably be able to guess the topic of the lesson immediately.
"Come on in everyone, and have a seat. We'll get started soon!" Gabi called out as the door opened and she waited for students to trickle in.
OOC: Welcome to your second HoM lesson of the term! Please be sure to brush up on the SSRPG rules as well as the HoM classroom rules in case your candy comas from yesterday made you forget anything! We will be moving on in roughly 24ish hours! CLASS HAS STARTED, please do NOT post coming in late or face the consequences!

By now, Claudine was used to seeing Healer Reccard more often than usual; that is, more than outside of classes. Yes, she had gotten used to Reccard being Slytherin's Head of House. The girl usually took some time to adjust to changes so this was no surprise that she had taken a while this time around. "Good day, professor.'' She shot a smile to the Healer before her gaze zoned in on the object of what was no doubt today's topic. "Ooh, it's going to be an interesting lesson.''
That's all Claudine would say and she made her way to the back of the classroom. Was she highly anticipating today's lesson? Yes, she was.

Charlie walked in part of her hair pulled back, tight curls bouncing that weren't tied up. She wasn't thrilled by this year, but it wasn't going terrible either. 14 wasn't that bad to her yet. She was still trying not to be on edge by all of the weird things that were happening, but that wasn't going super well. No sooner than she stepped into the classroom did she notice the stone goblet sitting on their professors desk. "oh no--Hello Professor." In no way shape or form did she want to be a part of what she was really afraid was going to happen today. Could today be a tame day in class please? She slid on into a seat and twisted a curl in her finger as she waited for whatever was about to happen.

Bernie was really unbothered by everything that had happened in the castle this year. So far, all she'd noticed was Professor Fuller-Thompson's room getting ransacked, and that had been kinda funny. She doubted anyone would try to prank Professor Recard though--- she'd probably be FRIGHTENING if she got mad!
So Bernie skipped into History of Magic, greeting the professor with a smile and a half-curtsy and a, "Whoa, cool cup! Are you going to drink from that today?" and then found a seat near the back of the room.

Ashley walked into class, and blinked. Was that what she thought it was? Was there a chance of getting hurt in this lesson? "Hello," she said to the professor. Ashley had read up on this subject. She did not often have the time to look ahead in her books, but... um... she had specifically read about this. And she did not like the idea.

Naya arrived for History of Magic and walked right into the classroom. “Hello Professor”, she said, as she immediately noticed the goblet in front of the professor’s desk. Oh this was going to be interesting, no doubt.
The seventh year found a seat, sat down and began to unpack her things. She had an idea what the class might be about, but it could go in so many different directions. Sitting back, she patiently awaited for the rest of her classmates to arrive. Class would be starting soon and she was anxious for it to begin.

Ivy made her way into History of Magic honestly feeling quite relaxed. History of Magic was one of her favorite subjects. Why? No magic. It was all just learning about history, which she was used to. Plus, Professor Recard was always really nice to her! As she came in, she spotted the weird trophy-looking cup with fire coming out of it and gave it a confused looked, wondering what that was all about. ”Good morning, Professor Recard!” she said brightly. Then her eyes went over the students already in the room, several of whom looked quite concerned for some reason. Spotting Ashley, she took a seat next to her. Taking out her note-taking supplies and setting it out on her desk, she leaned over and whispered to her friend. ”Why’s everyone so worried? Did something else happen?” she asked.

Violet trudged into class--this year was really dragging her down, what with the difficulty of fitting in when she was older than the rest of her year, trying to catch up on a year of missed schooling, and nearly constantly getting bruised and occasionally nearly killed in her classes. "Good day, Professor Recard," she said automatically as she headed to an empty chair, the first one that caught her eye, and began to pull her parchments and quill out of her bag. Suddenly her eye was caught by the object at the front of the room--dear Merlin, was that real? Were the teachers really bent on thinning out the younger generation of witches and wizards this year? Or...no, that couldn't be the real one, it was too small. Okay, so this was what they were going to talk about today, eh? Might be interesting at that.

There were stone golems walking around at night, invisible entities that turned them into juggling pins and a Headmaster that obviously wanted them dead. Hogwarts was becoming less and less glamorous by the day. The 11 year old may as well have stayed home and continued her dance career.
All this stress was making it near impossible to get her homework done.
Emm entered the room in time to hear the end of Bernie's question. Cup? What cu--oh THAT cup. "Can I have a drink after you do, Professor? Or--or just a picture that looks like I'm drinking from it. I wanna send it to mummy. I bet she'd like it."
The Gryffindor sank into her seat near the middle of the room and tossed her bag into the chair next to hers. It was Kizzy's and she was tired of people planting their bums as they pleased without even the slightest bit of concern for whoever may have been saving a seat prior.
They could sit somewhere else.

Serena walked into the classroom distractedly, she had heard several students talking about golems or whatever walking around the halls of Hogwarts at night, and it was very concerning. Pair that with the fact that several students were sent flying around the Charms corridor a few weeks ago, and Headmaster Trent making an attempt to murder them at the Forbidden Forest in the hands of the Acromantulas - all this was enough to stress out her 14-year old self! But nonetheless, life had to go on!
Clutching her bag to her, and watching as everyone else walked into class and taking a seat, she frowned. Didn't they have homework due though? Did she imagine it? She had spent all night working on her essay on the Weasley family, but it seems like no one was handing theirs over.
Shrugging, she walked into class, choosing to keep her roll of parchment to herself and smiled at her head of house "Good day Professor!" She greeted, before taking a seat in the middle of the room - only then noting the curious flaming goblet sitting on the front of the room. What is that?!

Phoebe was always delighted to see the History of Magic professor, especially since her class was actually pretty interesting (for a Booky class). Not as interesting as the professor herself, obviously.
"Bonjour, Professor! That's a very stylish cup you have there. Can I put my name... in... it?" She wiggled her eyebrows wildly because LOOK, SHE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON FOR ONCE IN HER SILLY LITTLE LIFE.

Everything was so stressful and Hogwarts was exhausting. History of Magic was alright though. It usually called for nothing more than the memorization of dates and events. This was something Kinsay was particularly good at, so she didn't mind the subject very much. She was still wary of Professor Recard though. Ever since she had yelled at Emm. That wasn't very nice.
Kiz came running into the room right behind Pheebs, just in time to hear her question. Of course Kizzy didn't know why Phoebe wanted to put her name in, but she nodded from behind. "Me too?" If Pheobe wanted to do it then Kizzy wanted to do it too.
She gave Professor Recard a polite smile before skipping off to the middle of the room where Emm was sitting. "Hi," she ginned all brightly, looking at the seat next to her. "Is this one mine?" Unless Emm had found a new best friend to save seats for.

History of Magic was a welcome distraction from the strange happenings in the castle. Heath could always count on Professor Recard for some much needed normalcy. As he entered the classroom, his eyes were immediately drawn to the replica goblet of fire on the desk. There was no need to try to guess the subject of today’s lesson; the real question was how would they approach it. Thank Merlin this was History of Magic and not DADA! Given Headmaster Trent’s erratic behavior this term, he’d probably have them reenacting the first task of the 1994 Triwizard Tournament with actual dragons or something equally dangerous.
“Good morning, Professor Recard,” he greeted, giving her a polite nod of acknowledgement as he passed her desk. For a moment, he wanted to ask if she got the replica from Dervish and Banges - he seemed to recall that shop selling mini goblets of fire - but he decided against it. It was probably a weird question!
He beelined for his usual seat in the back row next to Claudine. “Hi,” he said with a small smile as he unpacked his supplies, neatly arranging them on the desk in front of him.

She regarded him as a friend because of his relationship with Claudine and the fact that he was a nice guy.
Fiona's eyes then fell upon the object at the front of the classroom and all of a sudden, her attention and excitement piqued.

"Hello, Miss Jenovick," Gabi greeted one of her Slytherin students with a grin as she walked in to class.
After her introductions, it was time to get started with the lesson, so she waved her wand the door closed with a loud THUD. Anyone who came in late would have to suffer the consequences of their poor time management.
"Good morning everyone! Today's lesson is on something that plays a very large part in the history of Hogwarts itself," she began, doing her usual pacing back and forth in front of her desk. "In fact, some of you may know a bit about it already, having read about it in books or heard about it from family members who may have even participated in it!" she said with a grin. The last one that had been held at the school hadn't really been that long ago. It was completely possible some of their relatives had been involved in it, or at least remember watching it.
"So, let's get right in to it. What do you know about the history of the Triwizard Tournament?" she asked the class. She paused, waiting for the first person to raise their hand.

Imagine actually participating in the triwizard tournament, though!? You had to be all KINDS of clever to do well, she imagined. Plus you had to be brave. She liked imagining she could do well in that kind of setting, but there was no denying there were others far braver and more clever than her.
”Professor, in the tournament there were different challenges that participants had to complete in order to move on to the next round. They could be pretty dangerous and really, the kids competing had to be ready for anything!”
Ivy made her way into History of Magic honestly feeling quite relaxed. History of Magic was one of her favorite subjects. Why? No magic. It was all just learning about history, which she was used to. Taking out her note-taking supplies and setting it out on her desk, she leaned over and whispered to her friend. ”Why’s everyone so worried? Did something else happen?” she asked.
Ashley shook her head. "No," she whispered. "It's just that this lesson is on the triwizard tournament, and people died in it before. I suppose everyone is wondering if we will die today or something. I think that would be a first for History of Magic class though." Now, to pay attention. This was one of the few HoM topics she knew about. "I think like three kids from different magic schools compete to win glory and money. Or something like that. It sounds ridiculously dangerous. Haven't people died in it? You would think they would stop after those." In all honesty, Ashley thought that the whole concept of schoolkids doing dangerous stuff on purpose was crazy. She had had enough danger so far in her life. She wouldn't be caught dead in a tournament like that. Get it? She also wouldn't be in the tournament at all.

Yes, Bernie saw the flames sticking out of the cup. But that didn't mean she couldn't drink from it! Couldn't it be magical fire?!
Hum hum hum, now she had to think up something she'd read about the Triwizard Tournament ages ago. Bernie tapped on her chin as she thought, then raised her hand to build off Ashley's answer. "And the different schools take turns hosting the tourney," she guessed. "Hogwarts has done it lots of times." Again, this was half-recalled and half-guessed knowledge.
Bernie did not recall what this had to do with the flaming cup though.

Settling in beside Phoebe for the lesson, Josh was giving the classroom a look around while Professor Recard got herself situated. The History of Magic Professor ought to be proud of him. Outside of the dragon mauling at the start of term, he hadn't been back to see her! Already an improvement from last term! Also, was it just him or did Heath and Claudine seem to just...be joined at the hip literally every lesson?
Anyway, his attention went back forward when discussion began. History of Magic was far from Josh's best subject but this particular topic was even harder for him to get into. "It's something for European schools. Exclusive like that," he offered up after raising his hand. Seemed that way anyway. No other wizarding school from another continent participated. "OH! And the current Senior Undersecretary was a participant in it. He won."
THAT he had heard from pops over a dinner table discussion at one point or another.
"Has a pretty sick looking trophy too," he added as an afterthought while pointing ahead at the stone goblet with blue flames.

"It was dangerous," Violet added. "A lot of people died competing in it, until they discontinued it at some point in...the 18th century, I think. They revived it in the 1990s with an age restriction--you had to be at least 17 years old to complete--but a boy died that year, too, and I don't think it's ever been held since." Violet thought to herself that no amount of money or glory was worth kids dying over it.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
By now, Claudine had expected Heath to sit with her during their lesson. She thought that if he didn’t at any time, she might become offended. Not that she’d tell him that. “Hi, you,’’ she replied. Oh, and there was one of her dormmates. “Hi, Fiona.’’ The other girl got a smile because, you know… Claudine liked her and all.
Her gaze flicked back to the goblet at the front of the classroom then to Reccard. Were they starting soon? Yes, it certainly seemed so. The Triwizard Tournament! It was quite an exciting topic and today’s lesson was seemingly no different. “It’s the Goblet of Fire that selects the participants from each School. Apparently it can tell who are most worthy to compete.’’ This fact had always phased Claudine. How can a Goblet tell from simply a name on a slip of parchment of who was worthy?
Ivy nodded her understanding to Ashley, but before she could ask anything else, Professor Recard had started speaking. Ivy shifted in her seat to make sure she was paying full attention. Truthfully, she didn’t really know anything about this Triwizard Tournament, but she glanced around as some of the other kids answered. Clearly it was TERRIBLE and she couldn’t for the life of her understand WHY they’d ever do something like that at a SCHOOL.
But, then again, the Headmaster had tried to feed her friends to monsters in the Forbidden Forest even though no one believed her that that was what had happened.
Hogwarts was weird...
Deciding she wanted some answers for a change, Ivy raised her hand. ”Professor? I don’t have an answer, but I was just wondering... why would they do something so dangerous at a school? It seems like people do a lot of dangerous things with the students, and it’s just... well, I kind of would rather not die...”
Maybe she should go back to Muggle school?

The Triwizard Tournament! Now that was a piece of wizarding history that thoroughly perplexed Avalon. Why any school would host such a dangerous event, she never understood. From what she had read about it, several innocent students died. Was it really worth it, just to get bragging rights, a fancy trophy, and some money? They should have just kept it discontinued after the first time. Bringing it back in the 20th century only ended in another sad death. "The last Triwizard Tournament was marked by the return of Voldemort, and like Violet said, a student died because of it," Avalon said after raising her hand, adding on to her classmate's answer. From what Avalon knew about wizarding history, Voldemort would have come back regardless of if the Triwizard Tournament was held, but he used the event as a vehicle for his return. That was reason enough to not hold it anymore.

Valencia raised her hand excitedly. "It's a competition between schools." she said echoing what a few others had said. "It's meant to encourage friendship and unity between schools as well as friendly challenge showing off the best and brightest of each school in a series of skill challenges."
She was jealous she'd never seen one honestly.
"I think it's a wonderful opportunity to show off your school's strengths."

Yay, she was right. Phoebe gave herself a silent round of applause, with flourishes, as the professor began her lesson. Fine, lovely, let's learn about the extremely dangerous and interesting Triwizard Tournament. The unfair and murderous tournament that Phoebe would totally try to compete in if given half a chance.
She raised her hand. "I think that while it was going on, they held it every five years? Which is really unfair, right? Because you have to be 17 to compete, but you're only 17 for one year at Hogwarts, so you almost never have any chance to compete. Unfair."
