Flanked by giant statues of winged boars on either side stands the strong wrought-iron gates that keep the students inside while making sure anything unwanted stays out. The Entrance Gates are the main entrance in and out of the Hogwarts Grounds and remains closed and locked at all times, the sole exception being the start and end of the school year for the carriages to pass through and during Hogsmeade weekends.
Staff members are the only ones who can undo the complex enchantments that surround this barrier, so don't even think about trying to sneak out for a late-night Butterbeer.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Minjae knew that the entrance gates were closed, locked and sealed. Yet he could not help himself as he reached for the gate and tried a sneaky push and pull. The gate did not budge, of course and he sighed as he turned back around. He wasn’t even going to try and use magic on it. He would bet his trust fund money that the staff members had put an alarm on it in case anyone broke in or students, like himself, were trying to sneak out.
He had been craving Butterbeer since the morning he had woken up and he wished that he knew the recipe to make one. He was good at potions so making a drink would basically be the same, right? Walking away from the gates, Minjae made his way over to a large tree on his right side and took out his wand as he sat against it.
Pointing his wand at a pebble, the sixth year concentrated on the spell he wanted to use on it. A frown appeared on his face as he tried to non-verbally rocket the pebble upwards in to the sky. The pebble stayed on the ground and had not even moved. SIGH. This non-verbal stuff was more difficult than he thought.

The Entrance Gates was a place where Claudine rarely ventured while at Hogwarts. For some reason, the spot didn’t really appeal to her. Not until today, that is. With some free time on her hands, she had decided to take Samm the rat for a bit of a walk. Well, she was doing the walking; Samm was merely riding on her shoulders. The girl was giggling softly as she approached the Gates. “Samm, stop. Your paws are tickling me.’’ For the rat was scurrying from one shoulder to the next. Samm did not heed his human’s pleas.
Trying to ignore the tickling, Claudine cast her gaze around. Minjae, with that frown on his face, caught her attention. “Well, well,’’ Claudine announced her presence as she came within hearing range. “If it isn’t Rich Boy Yoon. What did that pebble ever do to you?”

Another non-verbal attempt, another failure. He sighed even louder before picking up the pebble with his hand and threw it away in frustration. He'd try another time, for now he would relax against the tree so he closed his eyes to enjoy the weather before it started to rain.
Hearing a voice nearby, the Hufflepuff looked at Claudine with one eye open before he closed it again after hearing her rich boy comment. "Your naming skill is very impressive, congratulations." Did she think that comment would make him uncomfortable or something? Please, he had had worse.
The pebble? He opened his eyes now and looked in the direction he had thrown it earlier. "I was trying to cast a non-verbal spell on it but it didn't wo---" he stopped talking, sat upright against the tree and looked up at the Slytherin. "I'm in a foul mood today, Blaze. So what do you want?" they never talked, there had to be a reason.

Wow.
It looked like rich boy had anger issues. Claudine felt oddly superior in the way that she usually had her anger in check, except in certain cases when other humans went out of their way to annoy her. She smirked now. Did he think that she would be put off by his sarcasm or something? Puh-leaseee. None of that sass bothered her.
Oh.
“Is that why you’re in a bad mood then? Because of your spell work?”Claudine asked, ignoring Minjae’s tone and question while Samm decided to abandon his post on her shoulders. The rat scrambled down and onto the ground in a close range to the Hufflepuff. Was Minjae afraid of rats?

Oh.

Hmmm.
Why was it, that every time he wanted to be alone, someone decided to keep him company? He normally enjoyed company but sometimes he wished he could be alone. He wasn't the type to tell people to go away though so he usually just dealt with it and waited till they left by themselves.
He tightened his jaw when she mentioned his spell work because yes, that was one of the reasons why he was in a foul mood today. He hated that he wasn't able to perform magic at the first try. As a Hufflepuff, it was funny how he hated hard work and wanted results immediately.
Ignoring her question, he pocketed his wand and sat upright against the tree. "You haven't answered my question. What do you want?"
He watched as the rat on her shoulder scrambled down her arm and leg until it eventually made its way over to him. A small smile appeared on his face and he leaned forward, tapping his fingers on the grass near the rat to try and get it closer to him. "What's their name?" he asked. His foul mood wasn't gone but it had lessened a little with the presence of the little cutie.

If only Claudine knew that Minjae was dying for some alone time but was too polite to let him know, they would have bonded instantly. No one understood the need for alone time more than she did. She did, however, observe the clenched jaw and knew she had struck a nerve. Warning taken, Minjae. In any case, she wasn’t the type to push anyone’s buttons.
“Nothing really. Just working a bit on my social skills.’’ This was the truth but she had only selected a few on whom to be social with. Rich boy here was one of them because… well, they were both rich. Not that Claudine went around broadcasting that.
Oh! Minjae was not afraid of rats.
“His name is Sammy but I call him Sam.’’ Sammy gave a few squeaks then scrambled in what appeared to be in a cautious manner to Minjae’s fingers. The rat was definitely more social than Claudine was. Soon, he was close enough for Minjae to touch him. “He likes head rubs. Much like a cat,’’ the girl added after some thought.
