Divination Lesson two: Class near the lake With such a beautiful spring day it wasn't surprising that some of the classes would be held outdoors. Cassie was ready for warmer weather and with such a sunny day in April it was a perfect opportunity to get out of the tower and on the grounds. As the class gathers they will notice that there really isn't any seats set up so sitting on the ground or standing will be the way of this lesson. Cassie herself is standing near the lake next to three big covered crates. There is no sound coming from the crates so not really any clue as to what is inside of them. Her welcoming smile and snaps shows all the students they are in the right place and she was eagerly ready to greet them. Class progression First Question Getting your snake Getting to know your snake Reading your snakes |
Bernie was happy to be outside on a nice day like this. She just wasn't expecting Divination to be outside!? This WAS Divination, right, and not Creatures class? Because Bernie didn't have room in her schedule for both of those electives, and those crates by the professor sure looked like the kind RARE and DANGEROUS CREATURES came in! "Hiya, professor," she greeted the snappy blonde with a few finger snaps of her own. "What are we doing today?" Bernie plopped down on the green ground without a care. Grass stains be darned. |
Why were they outside for divination? Nevermind. Who cared. It was a nice day. "Morning professor," she said cheerily. There were no chairs, so she just crouched on the ground. No way was she sitting fully down. Better be able to get up quickly in case something went wrong. Constant vigilance or whatever. "What are we doing today?" |
Tom walked towards the lesson, he still after three years didn't know what to think about this subject, it freaked him out sometimes. 'Morning Professor!' Tom said as he saw the Professsor. He then sat down and waited to see what they would be learning today. |
It was certainly unusual to have Divination, of all classes, outside. But Avalon wasn't complaining one bit. She was loving the spring weather, and she'd take any excuse to enjoy it. The Ravenclaw had packed all of her scarves and winter wear away until next year - so she was grateful that it turned out to be a warm day. "Good day, Professor," she said with a smile as she joined the small group of students already gathered near the lake. Avalon peered curiously at the covered crates. Were those....animals? Or some type of magical creature? Either way, she was intrigued. |
Claudine found that she was truly falling in love with the recent weather. Sunny weather had always been something she was neutral to but apparently that was changing. For that reason, she didn’t mind the lesson being held outdoors. The girl happily made her way to the Lake, noting the small group of students there already. She smiled at Avalon and gave Kitridge a wave but didn’t get too close to everyone. This introvert wasn’t ready for her recently recharged social batteries to drain just yet. Her interest was drawn to the covered things. Whatever were they, hmm? |
Mamie had felt like a niffler in a bank vault when she found out Divination was going to be outside today, and she was still pretty chipper when she got down to the lake where their beloved Head of House had set up for class. "Hello Professor!" she greeted happily as she arrived. Eyeing the crates--they looked suspicious to her, she tilted her head a little, wondering what could be inside. "What's in the crates?" Might as well just ask before she had to wonder too long. |
Outside classes were the VERY best kind. Making kids sit inside stuffy rooms when it was so nice out was practically a criminal offense! So Kizzy was very pleased that Professor Kitridge was taking the nice weather into account. Having headed out a little earlier than she needed to, Kizzy practiced a few cartwheels nearby before making her way over to join the group. "Hi Professor," she said skeptically, eyeing the covered crates. The wheels in her head began turning, but there was really only one thing on her mind. "Can we learn how to talk to the giant squid today?" Please? PLEASE? PLEEEEEEEEEASSEEEE? |
The weather was beauuutiful. Could all the classes be held outdoors, please? Like some of her classmates, Irithel was pleasantly surprised to hear that the Divination lesson would be taught on the grounds. That means Charms, Transfiguration and even Potions could be held outside! They could all carry their cauldrons and workstations and ingredients and brass scales and ... eh, never mind. "Hi, Professor," she greeted with a wave AND a snap. After glancing around the small group already there, she walked over to sit next to Ashley. Why was she crouching like that? Anyway. Irithel smiled at her roommate and looked to the professor to see if she would answer her question. What were they doing in this lesson, hmmm? Ravenclaws are curious. |
It was a lovely day and Naya was happy that class was being held outdoors. On top of that, they were meeting by the lake. The lake was one of her favorite spots on the grounds. “Hello Professor”, she said as she joined the gathering. Eyeing the crates next to the Professor, Naya was curious. What could they possibly contain and did it have anything to do with their location? She set down her bag, looked around and tried to gues what they would be up to today. |
A lesson outside by the Lake was just what Minjae needed. He always enjoyed being outdoors and the sunny spring weather was very welcoming today. Upon seeing the small group of students gathered around in the distance and the Professor snapping away "Hey Professor. Nice choice doing a lesson outside with this fine weather" he nodded approvingly before his eyes went to the crates and he wondered what was inside but also knew he would get the answer soon enough. Taking his bag off of his shoulders, Minjae dropped it to the ground and followed after it, sitting with folded legs and waited for class to start. |
Heath usually avoided the great lake area like the plague! It was a bad reminder of that ill-fated kelpie lesson from last term and how his misguuded strategy nearly got another student hurt, but the sunny spring weather helped to push those thoughts from his mind. As he approached thw group, his eyes were immediately drawn to the crates. What was in there? He was curious but not worried about it. He trusted Professor Kitridge not to subject them to anything life-threatening. "Hello, Professor," he greeted with a polite nod of acknowledgment. Spotting Claudine, he went to stand next to her. "Hi," he said, smiling slightly. His eyes darted from her to the crates and back again. "What do you think is in those?" |
Spring had come to Hogwarts, and with it warmer temperatures and Cole wasn't complaining one bit since he had been freezing in the castle during the winter months. Heading down to the lake gathering for the divination lesson he was smiling from ear to ear as she stopped next to his girlfriend in the little group of students. He gave Naya's left hand a quick squeeze as he mumbled. "Hello Naya," before he turned his eyes toward their professor with a bright beam. "Hi Professor Kitridge, are we going to be water scrying today?" It was hard not to wonder about the contents of the crates at the blond woman's feet, but Cole was patient. He knew it'd be revealed soon enough. |
Violet sighed to herself as she made the long walk out to one of her least favorite classes, Divination. After nearly two years, it still felt like just making stuff up (and Violet felt she wasn't very good at it, either). But at least it was outdoors, and the weather was finally to feel like spring. |
It was DIVINATION TIME. Aboli was not only delighted to have class, but she was also delighted it was outside when the weather was this wonderful. She spotted Bernie and Avalon, but she chose to stand next to Minjae and nudged him with her elbow. "Hey," she said gently. She hadn't spoken to him much since their date, and she wondered if Noah had filled him in on her confession... And speaking of Noah, she REALLY was avoiding him lately. Especially since she had no definitive answer on what he wanted, and she was trying not to feel completely crushed about it. Everything was....fine. Yep. "Professor K, hey!" she waved across the way at her. |
Charlie was so excited to be having class outside and she wasn't a fan of the outside but she really liked divination and thats all that mattered to her. It would have been better if she wasn't in her drab uniform but she would survive anyways. She smiled, "Hi Professor! How are you?" She gave a small wave before finding a spot to stand. |
SPOILER!!: replies "I am so glad you have joined me on such a lovely day everyone. Mr. Cole had already asked about doing some water readings and even though today would be an amazing day for it, that is not what we are doing. " She looked around smiling at everyone. "Do you know what I love so much about divination?" Giving them a minute to think about it or even give a reason they thought she just smiled bigger, "I love it because it is everywhere and as long as you allow your sixth sense to come alive you will be able to find readings in so many places." She walked back and forth a bit to be able to be in front of the crates and be able to make eye contact with all the students. "While we are on the grounds we feel for the most part safe, don't you think? What happens when there is something that isn't safe though? Don't we usually have a gut feeling?" Again she looked at them to see some nodding, "Has anyone heard of any form of divination that is kind of like a gut instinct? Something that you can read to tell about your surroundings?" **Class will move on in 24 hours |
"Hi Irithel." Ashley looked at Irithel sitting on the ground skeptically. Sitting was dangerous, didn't she know? However she kept this thought to herself as she looked even more skeptically at the professor, who was talking about doing divination at any time. Not bothering to correct her name, she moved on the the question. "I am sorta enjoying the day, yes. Yes, I get gut feelings all the time. I haven't heard of divination for that, but... if you have a gut feeling, why do you need divination for that? Is it for people who don't have a gut feeling? Or is it just to make extra-sure?" Because if you had a perfectly fine gut feeling, why do you need another one? |
She observed the patch of grass in front of her as she listened to the professor talk about why she loves divination. Because it is everywhere? Hmmm, but couldn't that be said for a lot of magical subjects, like Herbology? Plants are everywhere, even seemingly insignificant ones like the grass that covers the ground they are currently When the professor said that they feel mostly safe on the grounds, Irithel glanced at Ashley, who did not look like she felt safe. "Don't most forms of divination use gut instinct to some extent?" she asked, raising her hand. She thought divination relies more on intuition than logical reasoning. |
Serena stifled back a yawn as she leaned against arms, which she had propped up behind her. Having class outside was a brilliant idea, especially in such pleasant weather - oh, but Merlin, all this warm sunshine was making her sleepy. So sleepy in fact, that she almost missed Professor Kitridge's question. Almost Blinking away her drowsiness, Serena took a second to gather herself then raised her hand to answer "Is it premonition, Professor?" taking a guess. She knew very well the feeling that Professor Kitridge was talking about. |
Kale had no idea what was going on. His eyes were too busy being ZONED IN on the crates. That felt like a mystery. He wasn't a Ravenclaw. He didn't live for mysteries. But he did love surprises. And a surprise was just an unsolved mystery, basically. The fourth year went on staring, soaking up some lovely sunshine, while the lesson progressed. A question was asked about gut instinct. Something Kale seriously lacked. And he kept on staring. He REALLY wanted to know what was in the crates, Professor. SHOW AND TELL. SHOW AND TEEEELL. |
Honestly, when Cecelia was feeling unsafe, it wasn't just her gut that clued her in. It was her whole body. "I usually get this shiver down my back if I'm feeling like something bad might happen wherever I am, Professor." It was like having somebody dump a cup of super cold water down your shirt or something. Not the best feeling in the world, that much was for sure. As for types of divination that are like gut instincts, Cecelia wasn't so sure. "Is there a divination that has to do with tummy rumbling?" That would be kind of similar, right? |
Uh. Adam was probably not the best person to ask about gut instincts. Because he was usually wrong. Like, REALLY wrong. The question was also taking his brain a moment to process. She wasn't asking WHAT happened when he got a gut feeling, but rather what type of DIVINATION used gut feelings in their readings. Uh. Didn't all of them do that? Sort of? He agreed with the older Ravenclaw who said so, and then raised his hand. "Is being a Seer considered using your gut feelings? Because if you're a Seer who can see the future and stuff your gut feelings are probably right more often than normal people," he explained. Made sense to him! |
With her dividing her attention between her classmates and the hidden things, Claudine was able to spot Heath approaching. It was no surprise when he came to a stop beside her. “Hi, you.’’ Then she shook her head. “I haven’t the faintest of ideas.’’ Truthfully, she wasn’t hurting her head in trying to figure it out either. After all, it would be revealed soon. Also… no. She hadn’t any ideas why Kitridge loved this highly uncertain subject. But yes, she did know of gut instinct. Did this mean there were entrails under those covers? Claudine’s imagination went wild in that uncomfortable direction. As for that question, she hadn’t anything to say about gut Divination. In her opinion, observing changes in one’s surroundings was a whole lot easier and reliable. |
Naya so was busy wondering what was in the crates, she almost didn’t see Cole arrive. Returning his hand squeeze, the seventh year gave her boyfriend a smile and a wink. ”Hey there”, she said quietly. Just then, her attention was captured by Professor Kitridge, who began to speak as class began. Naya listened and learned that they would not be working with the water. That still didn’t answer the question of what was in the crates. She didn’t have time to linger on that thought however, because it was question time. Naya almost laughter when the professor asked if they felt safe on the grounds. Did one ever really feel safe at Hogwarts? The gut feeling though, that Naya knew something about. She raised her hand to add to the discussion. “Sometimes when I feel like something just isn’t right, the hairs on my arm stand up.” Other times, she just felt weird. It was hard to explain. As for the gut feeling Divination type, she had no idea. |
Heath nodded in reply to Claudine, though he didn’t say anything because the lesson was beginning. He wasn’t at all surprised to hear she had no idea what was in the crates. He had no idea either, but that didn’t stop him from speculating about it. Must be the Ravenclaw curiosity in him… Something else Heath had no idea of? How to answer the professor’s question! Or questions, in this case, as it sounded like she was asking several different things. As for the first question, yes, he did feel mostly safe on the school grounds (The Forbidden Forest notwithstanding). At that thought, memories of the acromantulas in DADA came rushing back, and he could almost feel the fight or flight response kicking in. Was that the sort of answer Professor Kitridge was looking for to the second question? If so, how did that relate to divination? The only thing he could think of was intuitive divination. That used gut feelings, didn’t it? But it was more a category of divination than a specific form of it… His thoughts were going in so many directions that there was no way to voice them without sounding incoherent. Rather than embarrass himself, he kept quiet for now. |
Kinsay tried not to look as disappointed as she felt. Kiz wasn’t even aware that doing water readings was on the table!!! But now that she knew, it was horribly terrible that they weren’t going to do water readings for class today. And even though it was hard not to dwell, she tried her very best. Gut feelings. Kizzy got those ALL the time. They were hard to explain, but they were always around. So she thought about the question for a little while, listening to her classmates before her own hand shot up into the air. ”My mum has intuition, she always knows everything. Is motherly intuition a kind of divination?” 'Cause that would explain a whole lot. |
SPOILER!!: replies "Very good thoughts and answers. Many of you have get thoughts on that gut feeling you get and I love that you are aware of hairs sanding up or chills down your spine. Always, always listen to those signs. IF they are saying something is wrong more than likely it is." It was so important to her that they know how to figure that out. She felt the more they were aware the more their sixth sense started waking up. "Now there are many forms that use the outside and can help us find information about a situation, we have water, birds, air just as some examples. All we could do right here in this very spot, but what we will be doing today involves creatures. Creatures are such special beings. They are in tune with nature and their surroundings. Watch creatures can really show us where is safe and where is not." She loved sitting and watching creatures in their natural habitats. Moving towards one of the crates she pulled the blanket and the clear crate showed all the serpents inside. "Today we are going to be working with these serpents as we work through Ophiomancy. Ophiomancy can tell us when danger is near or when things are peaceful and you can have a pleasant time." She reached down and picked one up, "These snakes are very use to people so they will not bite, they actually enjoy being touched." She let the snake climb her arm as she spoke. [b] "Serpents are very knowledgeable creatures that truly know their surroundings well. "There is enough serpents for all of you to take one. If you are afraid of them you may partner with someone, but they are very lovable so you shouldn't have any problems. Please take a few minutes and come get one and become familiar with your new friend." ** As Cassie said they are tame so no danger will be happening. Class will move on in 24 hours. |
Sure. Divination was reliable but gut feeling were just a feeling??? That didn't sound right. When were her gut feelings not reliable? She was always having one, true, but she was always in danger so... Anyways, she sighed as she stepped forward to pick up a snake. She wasn't scared. It was harmless. She watched it slither up her arm. "Hello. You seem nice and I don't think you'll abandon me. So consider yourself my friend." |
Irithel agreed that they should believe their gut instinct if it suggests that something is wrong. Intuition cannot be totally accurate, but better safe than sorry, right? Unless you're a super paranoid person who gets a strange feeling about everything and can't even step outside. Which Irithel isn't - she is a perfectly logical and sensible person. She grimaced when the blanket was pulled back to reveal SERPENTS inside the crate. She loves a lot of creatures, but snakes? Ugh, no. The purpose of this divination is to find out where is safe and where is not. But snakes in the wild are supposed to be super dangerous. If she were strolling through the grounds and got a gut feeling that she was not safe, she would NEVER just pick up a snake and perform Ophio-whatever. The creature would be the source of her feeling unsafe!! Or she would need to have a pet snake and carry it everywhere to tell if she is in danger, but that is just out of the question. Still, the professor said that these ones like humans. Irithel followed Ashley as she picked up a snake as if it were a cute kitten. "Hey Ash, can I partner up with you? I kinda don't like snakes," she said and gave the snakey an awkward pat-pat. |
question one catch up... Cole was a little bit disappointed that they weren’t going to be trying their hands at water scrying. The nice weather and the shimmering lake would have been perfect for it. It was no use sulking about it he supposed as the first question was asked. Gut feelings? Cole felt a bit clueless. He couldn’t think of one form of divination that worked like a gut instinct but he supposed it was nothing wrong in hazarding a guess. "Palmistry maybe? If you read the lines in your palm you can get warned about oncoming danger just like the chill down your spine or the hairs on your arm stand up." Merlin’s great socks!!! Cole couldn’t quite believe his ears. Professor Cassie wanted each of them to bond with a snake. Surprised and slightly frightened too since he didn’t exactly have good snake memories his eyes kept eyeing the snakes as his pulse rose in his chest with his anxiety. Trying to breath normally Cole looked sideways to Naya pleadingly. "Can we please share a snake? I don’t trust that the snake i take won’t give me a poisonous bite no matter what Professor Kitridge has promised." |

Partners? I'm sorry, did she snakes? Serena watched in horror as the snake emerged from the crate, and wound around Professor Kitridge's arm. She liked her serpents only on her house crest - thank you very much - she didn't need a live one too. She didn't care if they were loveable. They had fangs. That's all she needed to know. The frightened fourth year looked around the rest of the class, maybe she could partner up with someone who wasn't ready to freeze in terror |
Since it would be sort of awkward to stand and write, Claudine decided she would have to settle for taking help from her textbook later on. Gut feelings were a good thing, she agreed, but wouldn’t some feelings that weren’t gut feelings be wrong? What about if the person has gas or something? That uncomfortable feeling would be way, way off. Her dark eyes widened slightly. Did Kitridge just say that they would be working with creatures? A few things Kitridge said about creatures being in tune with their surroundings are what the girl could believe in; she actually knew that from firsthand experience. Anyway. Serpents? Claudine was a little taken aback. Of all the creatures… Hearing the words about them not being hostile, though, was a comfort. “Are you afraid of them?’’ Claudine asked Heath. Because she was not but if he was, and wanted to work with her, that was fine. The Slytherin |
q1 catch up Avalon returned Claudine's smile with a wave. She brushed her foot over the grass in front of her, happy to see that it was once again turning green, as she waited for class to begin. But the first question thoroughly stumped her. Didn't all types of Divination use gut instinct to some degree? Like, how could anyone honestly look at a clump of tea leaves and confidently state its existential meaning? The entire process of Divination, at least to Avalon, required some creative interpretation and gut instinct. So she decided to keep quiet, choosing to listen to her classmates' answers instead of offering one of her own. Um. Hold up. They were using snakes to tell the future now? Avalon stared, wide-eyed, as Professor Kitridge picked up a serpent as if it was a harmless kitten. And the snakes enjoyed being touched? That was a little hard to believe. Avalon wasn't afraid of them, but she didn't particularly enjoy scaly, slithery things either. Quote:

Naya listened as her classmates gave their answers and Professor Kitridge went on to talk about her lesson for the day. And then........the mystery was solved. Snakes. There were snakes in the crates and they were each meant to get one. Now Naya was not afraid of snakes. They weren’t her favorites, but she loved all creatures........at least all of those she had encountered so far. Apparently, her boyfriend was not so fond of the serpents. Sensing his anxiety, Naya tried to calm his fears. Turning to Cole, she said, “Of course we can share a snake.” She understood the mistrust. Serpents did not exactly have the best reputations. “Don’t worry, if the professor says they are tame, I’m sure they are.”. Naya went up to one of the crates and carefully removed a snake. She held it gently, but securely and headed back to Cole. “Hey there”, she said, while stroking the snake. ”You’re a friendly one, aren’t you? I’m Naya and this is Cole. Now you be really nice to him, ok?” Keeping a bit of distance from her boyfriend, she held the sake up, hoping he would relax. |
SNAAAAAAAKES. Why'd it have to be snakes? Hehehe. Kale was basically Indiana Jones. ANYWHOODLE. He wasn't actually averse to snakes. If Professor Kitridge said they weren't harmful, then he had to believe her, right? Adults never lied. They knew too much to be bothered with all that noise. So he hobbled over the to snakes and looked for his life partner. Or lesson partner. The snake that he would bond with and become eternal buds. When he locked eyes with one snake, oof, it was clear he was the one. Or she. He really didn't know how to tell the difference. However this snake was, its name was Douglas now. Kale scooted over to the snake and whispered, "Heya Douglas. Wanna be my friend?" |
Mamie's eyebrows went up up up when Kitridge revealed that the crates were full of SNAKES. She wasn't scared per se, but she was definitely surprised that they were going to be handling snakes without any extra supervision. What if they accidentally let the snakes crawl away? Still, she went to get a snake from one of the crates. She lifted one out, then carried it back to where she'd been standing. "Hello," she said, trying not to shudder as the snake wiggled in her grip. Kitridge had said they were tame, but, well it was still weird. She patted its head with her finger. "I'm going to call you Maya," she announced to her snake. Was it a boy snake? A girl snake? Did it matter? Wrinkling her nose as she was still uncertain about the weird scaly snake texture, she kept stroking/patting the snake's head gently. She hoped this was what was meant by bonding, she didn't really want to let the snake crawl all over her. |
Carsyn was definitely grateful that the weather was getting warmer again. It made for an easier time with training, as opposed to having to bundle up with five layers to avoid frostbite. Although the lack of proper seats was interesting but this was divination so anything was possible. Sixth sense? What was Kitridge going on about? Arching a brow, she listened as she talked about gut feelings. Wasn't there something that involved pigs guts? Although listening to her peers speaking, Carsyn was glad she didn't speak up because apparently pigs entrails had nothing to do with gut instincts and she wasn't even sure now what that had to do with the next task which was dealing with friendly snakes?? Weird indeed. "Gonna call you Bob," Carsyn spoke to the serpent as she picked one up. She was unbothered by it clearly, but if anyone was afraid and wanted to work with her, she'd let them. |
Heath had no idea where this lesson was going! The more he listened to the professor, the more confused he became, though he did perk up at the mention of creatures. Was that what was in the crate? Whatever was in there was awfully quiet if it was! He watched, intrigued, as Professor Kitridge revealed the snakes. Where had they come from? Did she round up snakes around the school grounds, or were they conjured by a Serpensortia spell? He wasn't worried about the snakes, even before the professor said they were harmless. He trusted Professor Kitridge not to intentionally put the students in danger, and mostly he was just glad it wasn't frogs! Even if it had been, he wasn't afraid of frogs; they just made him sad. His eyes automatically flicked toward Claudine as the professor said partners were allowed. For one fleeting moment, he wondered if she was afraid of snakes, but before he could speak, she was asking him the same question. "No, not at all," he replied, shaking his head. He watched, smiling slightly, as Claudine picked up a snake and began talking to it. She was so sweet with creatures; it was adorable, did she know? Never mind… not the time to think about that! Heath stepped forward to claim his own snake, surveying the serpents still in the crate until he spotted a small one at the back. "Hi, little guy…" he whispered. "Girl? Snake?" Yeah, let's go with that! Taking care not to make any sudden movements and startle the snake, he extended his arm as an invitation to climb it. The snake looked at him for a few seconds, its tongue flicking in and out, then slithered all the way up his arm to rest on his shoulder. He laughed quietly. "Hey, that tickles!" Was he allowed to name the snake? He overheard others doing so, so he assumed he was. And he had the perfect name! "I'll call you Baby Yoda," he said to the snake. Because it was little and cute and sort of looked like the green alien baby. Turning to Claudine, he asked, "Are you going to name yours?" |

She watched as the older girl started...bonding? with the snake, and Serena inched closer to watch. It seemed docile enough, right? But when Avalon held out the snake towards her, she took half a step back before stopping and squaring her shoulders in reluctant determination. The blonde extended a tentative finger towards the snake, and ran a finger through its cool skin. It wasn't so bad? But it definitely was no warm kneazle. "Are allowed to name..it? him? her?" She asked |
She was fine, you know. Everything was fine. It was Divination class and while one Emmerson Nicole Justine Cambridge was growing tired of going to classes and...y'know...learning, she didn't mind Divination. Until the snakes. "Eeewwwww!!!!! Ew ew ew! Professsoooorrrr!!" The little Gryffindor stayed as FAR AWAY from the snakes as she possibly could without leaving her classmates and professor in her dust but it was fair to say she had no plans of getting any closer. Someone should have TOLD her they were learning about snakes today. She would have gone to the healer with the worst headache in life and INSISTED on staying in the hospital wing for the hour. The headache would understandably disappear once the lesson was over but now she might get a real headache and this was absolutely not fun. "It's looking at me--ew ew get it awwaaayyyyyyy!!" No, she didn't want a partner, she wanted a letter excusing her from the lesson entirely. |
Bernie didn't want to touch a snake EITHER. Privately, she agreed with Cambridge, who was voicing her concerns for her. BUT, she was also a BRAVE BRAVE BRAVE GRYFFINDOR and wasn't afraid AT ALL of Slytherins--- er, snakes. "You can work with ME, if you wanna," Bernie casually mentioned to Emmerson as she reluctantly made her way up to the crate of snakes. If she pulled her robes down so her hands were covered by her uniform, maybe the snake wouldn't touch her and would be less scary!??! Bernie still made a face as she took a snake, holding it out at an arm's length. |
Tom was so scared about this, he wasn't taking one, nope he wasn't, he just stayed were he was, the Professor would have to force him to take one, they were scary. |
Tom, wanna partner up? Quote:
But anyway--snakes! This was going to be better than Violet had imagined a Divination class could go! Violet loved snakes and lizards and things, but her grandfather and uncles nearly went into hysterics if she so much as tried to touch one with her littlest finger. And they'd instructed Miss Howard the same, because Violet was never allowed to keep any of the creatures she brought into the house and tried to hide in her room in jars and boxes--she wasn't even allowed any pets! Except her magpie, Machiavelli, and that was only because he was a bird who'd come through her window one day and refused to leave. And now she was going to be able to pick up a snake and touch it as much as she liked--and it was part of school, so no one could tell her not to! She was walking toward the crate of snakes eagerly, planning to pick out just the right one, when she noticed a Gryffindor boy in her class--well, what should have been her class, if she hadn't lost a year--looking frozen in his tracks. Hmm...maybe he had one of those snake phobias. Well, the professor had said they could have partners, and Violet did want to meet more students her own age, so she paused as she walked by. Tom, she thought that was his name. She smiled in what she hoped was a friendly way. "Hey, Tom, do you want to partner up? I'll be happy to get our snake, I'm already on my way up there." |
Tom was still just staring at the snake, there was no way he was going to pick one up at all, nope he would run a mile if he had to touch one, this was just so crazy, why would anyone want to touch a snake. This was a bad idea. He was about to close his eyes and pretend to be asleep, okay probably wouldn't be the best thing to do in class but it would get him off the snake thing right when someone spoke to him. 'Sure that would be awesome!' He smiled at the girl, who must be around his age, he would partner up as long as he did have to touch the snake or do anything with the snake, they were scary and horrible. |
Valencia did not mind snakes at all so she happily went to go get one. She carefully reached into the crate and picked one up. She then headed back to give other students room. She gave the little snake nice little head pats in the meantime. Hi there little one. |
Phoebe didn't dislike Divination, but she certainly spent most of her time just trying to figure out what the Professor was talking about. There were facts you could glean from a book (she was fine at that, whatever) and facts that only the Professor could impart (which required listening skills, sadly) and then there were gut instincts... and Phoebe was not nearly self aware enough to have those. But at least she could play with a snake. That was pretty cool, right? Phoebe approached the box and waved at one of the cutest little guys who was just waiting on her. Cute... little... b... She slowly dropped her wiggling fingers back down to her side and considered the box of remaining snakes coolly. THIS WAS HOW THEY WERE SPENDING THEIR TIME? THIS WAS HOW THESE PROFESSORS SHOWED THEIR DISDAIN FOR HER DEMANDS????? The audacity. With a SHRIEK of rage, she upended the box, sending those snakes out on the ground. "I WILL NOT BE IGNORED." |
Kinsay still didn't understand what snakes had to do with gut feelings, but she wasn't about to ask and look silly in front of EVERYONE. So instead, she followed the crowd over to the crates, eyeing all of the serpenty options so that she could make the b e s t choice. She was JUST about to make her selection when she heard Emm's wails of despair. Oh. Um. Ummmmmmm. Kizzy really didn't have a problem with touching the snakes. She did, however, look back at the scaly creatures with a small sense of longing to pick one up. Only for a few seconds though because that's when hurricane Phoebe happened. G A S P ! (for the drama!) "Phoebe! What are you doing!?" Kinsay looked up at her sister with confusion??? Concern??? WORRY?? Before purposefully falling to the ground and attempting to SAVE all the snakes. The.... only issue was that there were a lot more snakes than there were Kinsays. She did manage to gab TWO of them though. One with each hand. Both held in death grips so they couldn't escape (who needed to breathe anyway?). Creature handler of the year. Obviously. She held them up in the air the way a MMA champion would with their trophy belts. |
Emmerson was about to scream....loud. Really loud. Louder than she was already yelling but then her hero swooped in and offered to take care of it. What Bernie said: We can be partners. What Emmerson heard: I will bravely do all the work, you need only stand over there and look cute—oh I love your bun today, it’s so neatly done—this snake is nothing for me. The little girl nodded enthusiastically, taking an extra step away just to make it clear Bernie would be doing ALL the work. “O-okay.” And a sniffle to make sure everyone knew how distraught she’d been. Let the record also show how distraught Kizzy was because of these snakes. Clearly the whole class needed to be cancelled. The Professor should be taking notes. “You can keep it, and I’ll watc—“ Her sentence to her new partner was cut short by the sudden shriek. “Phoebe! You can’t!” She was set to run for REAL this time now that her friend had unleashed holy terror in the form of liberated snakes onto the classroom but as she turned to run...a strange...strange feeling overcame her. Emmerson turned to the Professor. “Surrender the treasure.” All the earlier panic left the girl, leaving only an icy anger. When she spoke next, it was in a booming voice that she—even in her most impressive fit—would not usually be able to attain. “I want it! You will return it or I will rain down destruction on this castle!” |
I love reading everyone's posts! Quote:

"If you are too scared I would ask you just watch for now, but please try to come close to interact with them when you are ready." Snakes were very nice, she promised all the ones seeming a bit scared. Just as she went to talk with the next person she noticed Bernie offering to help, she smiled and nodded at the Gryffindor happy to see the students working together. Quote:

Cassie really hated taking points and the thought put her in a sad mood. She turned to the rest of the class trying to get back what good thoughts she had. [b] "Now everyone, as I was saying before we will be working with Ophiomancy, which is divination using serpents. These serpents are very aware of their surrounds, they have to be being so low to the ground. They use their tongues to smell and taste around them. Watching them you can really see if danger from an enemy or even weather is near. Flicking her wand she pulled a poster into the air, "here is how you know what they are doing and what it means. I have copies of this poster that you can each have to do this lesson. What I would like you to do is spread out and observe your snakes for a little bit to get use to them. See what they are doing, jot down some notes, and try to read your observations. I will give you fifteen minutes with this before we move on to the main assignment for today." She laid the stack of papers on the ground for the students to take one, but kept her eyes on the two fourth years that were causing some issues. She felt bad for taking the points, but she had to be stern during a lesson. With a sigh she went to make sure the snakes were unharmed in the crate. Quote:
**I am so sorry this was delayed. A windstorm caused some power outages for me and some damage to my property. All good now so we are moving on and I am enjoying all the snake posts! We will move to the next part of the activity in 24 or so hours. |
It turned out Heath wasn’t scared of snakes. Or maybe he just wasn’t scared of friendly snakes but the point was, he now had one in his possession too. Um… would she name her snake? She eyed it curiously for a moment. “I think I will. Hmm. I think I’ll go with Slythers.’’ Brilliant, wasn’t it? Slythers the Snake. Claudine playfully rolled her eyes at Heath. “Of course you’d name a snake something Star Wars related.’’ The girl would have commented some more to Heath and then to her new snakey friend but things were happening. Like Phoebe shrieking and causing the calamity of upsetting the snakes. She will not be ignored? “That’s no reason to throw the snakes on the ground,’’ Claudine spoke up, highly affronted at the girl’s actions. She hadn’t even realised Slythers had wound his way over her shoulders and was sitting there like some sort of shawl. As for Emmerson? What treasure? What destruction could a first year cause? In any case, Claudine cared more for the snakes than these two troublemakers but when she turned to volunteer to help Kitridge, she saw the adult had already taken care of them. A disgusted look was thrown at the two, especially Phoebe before the Snakette turned her attention to Kitridge and to Slythers on her shoulders, the latter of whom seemed to be content on his perch and was lying quite still as though asleep. After taking one of the papers and scanning the list of snakey activities then looked down at her shoulders. There was definitely no meaning for a snake casually lying on someone’s shoulders as though not having a care in the world. There wasn’t even one for the snake poking its tongue at someone, which Slythers was currently doing to Claudine’s right cheek. She may have giggled a bit. |

"Hmm?" Phoebe blinked as the snakes lifted up through the air around her and back into the box. Merlin, did the box have a hole in it? Why would you put snakes in an unsteady box? That's terribly dangerous. Phoebe accepted one of the snakes that Kizzy held from her hands (why was she on the ground, small thing?) and gave her sister a pat on the head. "Thanks, Kiz. Good egg." Phoebe returned to her spot with her snake and held it tentatively with both hands. |
Ok. They were just garden snakes. Not an Eastern Brown Snake or anything like that. She could handle this. She went to hold the snake, but it just hissed and slithered in the other direction. What? She wasn't suspicious at all... or was she? Everyone thought that she'd been acting weird. She got distracted for a moment, raising her hand. "Professor, can you give Emmerson her points back? Pleeeease? That isn't her. She's acting different. And she sounds like the ghost. It's not fair to take points." Ashley had no love for Emmerson Cambridge, but it was obvious she was acting strange, and it wouldn't be fair to take her points like that. Also, the behavior seemed familiar, and she couldn't think why. She went back to the snake. "Please little snake, I'm not suspicious. Pleeeease. Don't be afraid." The snake didn't move towards her, but it didn't move away either. "See Irithel? It's a nice snakey." |
Serena grinned when Professor Kitridge gave the go ahead to name the snakes. Yes, she was still not so fond of the cold thing, but it was kind of growing on her. She continued stroking its cold little head absently - keeping care to stay away near its face. "Perfect, you look like a Sven." She said happily, reminding her of the old reindeer plush toy that she had seen on a garage sale last summer. Suddenly, startling both her, her snake, and the rest of the class, Emmerson started screaming out - causing a scene. While this of course was not out of character for the first year - it did seem a little....weird. But Professor Kitridge was on it, and had resumed about her lesson. She glanced down on their snake. It didn't seem to be in any particular distress. She leaned towards Avalon, and whispered "I think something is wrong - more than usual - with Emmerson?" |
Did that girl just ... throw all the snakes onto the ground??? As Irithel had been standing close to the crate, she screamed a little and ran in the opposite direction. This was her worst nightmare - being surrounded by a few The tall brunette took a poster from the ground and read the guidelines. She could understand the logic behind them, but was slightly concerned about "serpent eats another animal". The only animals available to eat here were humans, other serpents, and animals deep in the lake. She hoped no one would get eaten in this lesson, even for divination purposes. She crouched near the snake she was sharing with Ashley and observed it. GASP. It "hissed and went the opposite way" from her roommate, just like how the poster said snakes would behave near a potentially suspicious person ... HAHA, that is hilarious, her friend is not suspicious at all. This snake must be too little to know what it's doing. "Have you done anything questionable, Ash?" she winked as she jotted down her observation. The next moment, the snake began to slither towards her. "Oooh, looks like I have a warmth around me. Well, I am dressed warmly today." More note taking and a gentle pat for the snakey. |
Quote:
But then there was some commotion. Phoebe was dumping the snakes on the ground, and then Emmerson was screaming, in a voice that sounded freakishly powerful. Avalon's eyes widened, taken aback by the sudden shouting. She nodded in agreement at Serena's comment. Rain destruction down on the castle? Something was most definitely wrong with Emmerson. Thankfully, Professor Kitridge had the situation under control. But an uneasy feeling settled over Avalon. "Alright, so I'm just going to put Sven down, and then we just....see what he does?" Avalon said, slightly unsure of this whole process. She placed the snake on the grass and glanced at the poster. Oh, Merlin. She really hoped their snake didn't decide to eat another animal. She did not want to see that today. |
SPOILER!!: Cole Naya smiled at Cole. She clearly understood his reluctance to approach the snake. She wasn’t afraid of snakes, but other things.........well she might feel that way about some other things. Keeping a slight distance she replied. “You can touch him if you want to, but maybe you can start by talking to him first. Let him get to know you.” Creatures were very sensitive. They could sense fear. Maybe if Cole talked to the snake, he would start to feel more comfortable. Maybe. Naya was so focused on her snake, it took her a minute to realize that things wer starting to go all Hogwartsy in the class. Some of her classmates started talking crazy talk and then.......snakes were everywhere. Naya looked at Cole, hoping that he wouldn’t freak out, now that there were snakes on the loose. Fortunately, the professor got everything under control quickly. What was that all about? |
Heath blinked, momentarily caught off guard by Claudine’s eye roll. At first he thought he might’ve done something wrong, but when she spoke, he realized she was teasing him and smiled. “You know me so well,” he replied with a slight chuckle. His smile grew as he watched her with her own snake. “I think Slythers is a great name!” He looked at the snake. “Hello, Slythers,” he whispered. “I’m Heath, and this is Baby Yoda.” He inclined his head toward the small garden snake still perched on his shoulders. “Come say hi to our new friend,” he said to Baby Yoda, but the little snake was too content in its place on his shoulders to move closer to Slythers. O_____________O Sweet slurping sarlaccs! What was going on?! All Heath could do was stare in disbelief as Phoebe shrieked about being ignored and spilled the box of snakes. That was… not like her. Before he could process the sudden change in Phoebe’s behavior, Emmerson started yelling. Okay, that in and of itself wasn’t unusual - from what he’d seen of her, she seemed loud and unpredictable. It was what she yelled and the way she yelled it that concerned him. What treasure was she talking about? And where had that voice come from? That wasn’t the voice of a first year girl! The thought occurred to him to offer to help Professor Kitridge round up the snakes from the box, but she’d already taken care of that before he had the chance. Heath was so flustered by the sudden turn of events that he had trouble concentrating on the lesson. He tried to follow along with what Professor Kitridge said... something about observing their snakes and taking notes. He didn’t know! He went to retrieve a copy of the poster, hoping that would make things clearer. Finding a space to work, he extended his arm to allow Baby Yoda to slither down it so he could observe him/her better, but where was Baby Yoda? He still felt the snake on his shoulder, but he could no longer see it in his peripheral vision. HIs head whipped around frantically, and he saw the tiny snake nestled against his neck, curled up in a ball. He immediately realized what had happened. Baby Yoda must’ve been scared by the yelling and hid behind his hair for cover. “Poor Baby Yoda!” he whispered. “Did all that noise scare you?” Heath glanced at his list of interpretations. Curled up in a ball… so that meant, “danger is near.” Once again, his thoughts turned to the two Gryffindor girls’ strange behavior. Could that be the danger in question, or was there something else? As he tried to riddle out the meaning (if any) behind the interpretation, he remembered a story from his older brother’s time at Hogwarts. Something about a hawk and kids being possessed… It seemed crazy, but could that be happening again? That would explain the girls’ behavior. Come to think of it, Headmaster Trent had also been acting different all term. Could he be possessed too? Should he say something about it? Better not… He didn’t want to cause a panic or worse, lose house points! Besides, it seemed Ashley had already handled that. He gave a barely perceptible nod in agreement, though he blinked confusedly as she mentioned a ghost. He shot her a look as if to ask, Which ghost? The school was full of them, but he'd never met one that sounded like that! Hopefully she'd understand the meaning behind the look and explain! |
SPOILER!!: Naya Talk to him? How did you talk to a snake and how did Naya know that the snake she was grasping was a he and not a she? With clear reluctance and an anxiety that Cole tried to push down he took a long breath to steady himself before he took a step closer to the snake and Naya. Looking into his girlfriend's eyes he said "I shall try and do as you say. Just please keep a strong hold on him." Casting his eyes down to meet the snakes he lowered his voice as he took another little step forward. "Hi, I’m Cole. I like your dark green skin colour and black markings, it’s cool! Would it be okay if I called you Zorro?" Not getting a hiss in response Cole took it as a good sign and braved reaching out to pet the snake very gently on the head, a couple of times. He had just pulled his hand back when a few of his classmates started acting funnily and saying crazy stuff. And then suddenly snakes we’re everywhere! Just like any other day at Hogwarts. Cole did his best to not freak out on the spot when the snakes fell out of the crates and started to slither around on the ground and towards him. Luckily Professor Kitridge acted swiftly to get things under control so Cole could focus on their next task. "Naya, are we just supposed to set Zorro down and observe and jot down what he does and try to interpret it?" |
......... What? So much was happening and Kiz understood none of it (except for the fact that she was still holding one snake in a death grip. That she understood. Sort of. She blinking as she stood up, she looked over from Phoebe to Emm to Phoebe back to Emm again. Not going to lie, she felt pretty left out. How come they planned without her? There was no way she could go back to learning snake divination now. Kiz had half a mind to start shouting about treasure too! "I know I'm quiet, but I would've helped too, if you asked," she gave Pheebs a sad sort of look. |
Was crazy the name of the game today? It sure seemed like it, with all the yelling. Whitney decided to just ignore it and get a snake. As long as said snake wasn't a rattler. But of course, Professor Kitridge had said they were all tame, right? And who would tame a rattlesnake? That would be as crazy as the crazy going on in the class right now. She picked up a small garter snake, still not entirely sure about this whole thing. She just wasn't exactly fond of snakes. Not scared of them, except rattlesnakes and to a lesser extent boa constrictors. Just not entirely comfortable around them. |

"Do you think Sven will eat something in front of us?" She asked the older Ravenclaw cautiously. "I mean, I know its supposed to be a good omen, but I don't really wanna lose my lunch by watching it devour its lunch." |
Bringing you a snake, Tom! Violet was still looking back over her shoulder at Emmerson as she returned to her partner, Tom, with their snake. "Look, it's just a garden snake--they're really cool. People think they're slimy, but they're not, they're dry and warm, even. Guess we should put him down and see what he'll do, eh?" Violet held the snake out towards Tom. |
Quote:
"Helped with what, kiddo? You like my hat? I think this pose means... highly fashionable and super beautiful." |
yo Emmerson HUH? Bernie could KEEP the snake? "No thanks," she declared abruptly, dropping her snake from her robe-covered hands and watching as it hit the ground and slithered away from them. What did that mean again? Keep an eye on your surroundings. Sure, Bernie could do that. Mostly she was keeping an eye on Emmerson and her strange voice. "You just lost us 10 points for that shouting," she hit the girl lightly on the arm. "And now we lost our snakeeeeee." Was Bernie perturbed by Emmerson's strange behavior? Not a bit, not even as she felt her own eyes roll back in her head. The same deep voice that had popped out of Emmerson now emerged from Bernadette: "How many children will it take to return WHAT IS MINE?" |
… 5 points from who now? Emm blinked up at the Professor, finding it difficult to remember what happened in the last minute or so. Even the snakes were forgotten. “Me, Professor?” was she the one who lost 5 points? It was starting to seem that way with how the woman was looking at her and even Ashley was asking for her to get them back but...she hadn’t...done anything. And then Bernie was smacking her hand and just...WHO cost them 10 points? “WHAT are you TALKING about? The First Year, whined. She was only standing there waiting for whatever instructions and now looking down she saw there were snakes slithering everywhere and...and...and...really, what was going on here? Emm thought to ask her partner but then...um.... Ooooookat then Bernie. Her hand slowly rose into the air as she took several steps away from Bernadette. “Um. Professor. Can I be excused? There’s a ton of snakes and now my partner’s gone crazy and I don’t wanna end up one of the children she’s talking about. I think we should all probably just call it a day.” Because no, she still wasn’t going NEAR those scaly monsters. |
SPOILER!!: Cole Naya held onto the snake, now to be known as Zorro. She watched Cole, as he began to interact with their new friend. When he began to pet Zorro, Naya smiled. He was doing great. Then hearing what her boyfriend said, she looked up. “Oh, right. Sorry.” They were supposed to be observing. Between the girls talking crazy and trying to make friends with Zorro, she had forgotten what they were supposed to be doing. “I’m going to set Zorro down now. You ok with that?” First Naya got one of the professor’s posters. Then she moved away from Cole a bit and set the snake down on the ground. “Ok Zorro, do your thing.” Keeping one eye on Cole and the other on Zorro, she watched for one of the behaviors listed on the poster. That was until her housemate started shouting with a very strange voice. This was getting crazier and crazier. |
Cassie was trying to concentrate on the students around her making sure they were getting to know their snakes and starting their observations, but she could feel some tension with a few of the snakes, "make sure you aren't squeezing the snakes too tight and once you get to know them place them in the grass so you can watch their movements." Quote:

What in the world was Bernie doing? She watched the girls eyes and the voice, that voice was very interesting. "How many kids? I clearly do not know what you are speaking about." She stared at Bernie talking to either a ghost or a child trying to play a joke, she wasn't fully sure at the moment. "No Emmerson you can not be excused, I would like to get to the bottom of this. You four girls stay right here." She turned to the rest of the class. "Alright everyone, you should have taken a moment to get to know your snakes, so now I would like you to spread out all over the ground. Stretch your legs and walk to the Butterfly garden, the courtyard, anywhere there is grass and a nice place for the snake to slither around a bit. You will set them down and observe their actions. Once you have observed them in that place jot down some notes and find a new place and do the process over again. See if they acted different in one place over another and try to figure out why they might do this. You have twenty minutes so go ahead, but watch the time and be back here as soon as both observations are done." Turning back to Phoebe, Emmerson, Bernie, and Ashley, "As for you four I would like to know everything that is going on." **wonderful job everyone. For this part of the lesson you will have two days from when this post was done. Go off and find two threads in the grounds to post your interaction with your snakes. After your two posts you can post back in here and link those two posts. |
Partner Tom was still shaking with fear as his partner brought a snake to him, okay this was so crazy. 'Professor, I'm so scared of snakes.' Okay did he really have to look at the snake and touch it, maybe he could just watch his partner play with the snake. |
Quote:
She didn't like being left out. That's what this was. Big inside joke she wasn't part of. It made her feel terrible things. "It's okay," she shrugged, feeling awfully deflated as she played with her own snake. It wasn't doing anything particularly cool, so she shook it up a whole bunch. See? Even the dumb snake didn't want her. Could class be over now? Kiz needed a cousin Cooper hug or a Matty book hang. Either one would be better than watching her best friend play secret pranks with her sister. |
SPOILER!!: Naya "No worries." Cole reassured his girlfriend with a smile. "It’s hard to focus when four girls start shouting crazy stuff around us." It was very tempting to forget the whole getting to know your snake activity and instead get involved in what their peers we’re going on about. Cole though decided that it was probably best to keep out of it and do what they were assigned to do; observe their snake companions behavior. Professor Cassie didn’t need extra students causing trouble. Cole waited while Naya fetched their observing posters, feeling glad that she didn’t pass Zorro over to him while she did that. When she came back and motioned that she was going to put Zorro down on the floor Cole nodded approval. "Yes, I’m okay with that. Let’s let Zorro do his thing!" As Zorro started to slither over to something that Cole assumed was a bug of some sort, it was hard to see on the ground, he asked Naya after consulting the poster, but being unsure if he was right. "Zorro is eating a bug. Do you think that means we are in a safe area?" |

"Huh?" She looked from the professor to Emmerson and back to the professor. "I think there's a Divination class going on, Professor K." There was never a wrong time to be cheeky, heh. |
Ashley shook her head at Irithel. "No. Or... I don't think I've been acting suspicious." Was she? She looked at the professor. She wasn't sure, but she thought it was quite probable that the professor wouldn't believe her about the ghost. She sighed, preparing for much incompetence and avoidance on the school's part. "THE ghost. The new one. That has been causing issues. Or haven't you seen him? He flew straight through me at one point. I should get it checked out." She sighed again, preparing to be ignored. And then, the oddest words came out of her mouth. "HONESTLY, I just want my treasure BACK. JUST GIVE IT BACK. It's NOT. THAT. HARD. I AM BEING SO OBVIOUS. YOU WILL ALL PAY." Ahem. "Anyway," she continued in a normal tone, rubbing at her temples, "He wants his treasure back, but the headmaster won't give it to him." Hmmm. Everything around here seemed to be the headmaster's fault. She wished he would just get fired or something. "Because he already spent it. So that's fun. But the point is, the students sound like the ghost. No idea why. But we aren't faking anything." She gave the professor a look that said clearly, So are you going to believe me or are you going to regret not believing me? |
At this point in life, Claudine was both troubled and annoyed by the outbursts from the others. Firstly, she no doubt knew that something was up, something ominous as usual because this was Hogwarts, after all. Secondly, she hated loud noises. Plus, it disturbed Slythers too. The snake had finally raised his head and looked off in the general direction of Bernadette. Claudine though? She tried to see if this lazy or tired snake would do anything other than chill on her shoulders. Apparently not. The Snakette was quite glad when Kitridge told them to wander the grounds with their snakes. It meant getting away from certain noisemakers. “Meet you back here in twenty,’’ she told Heath and shuffled off, Slythers still around her shoulders like a scaly stole. |
Tom, meet me in the Courtyard Quote:
OOC: I've started a thread in the Courtyard, here: https://www.snitchseeker.com/grounds...l#post12474740 |
"That's not the whole truth." Emmerson offered after Ashley gave her account. Did she mind staying back to talk with the professor? Of course not! It meant she didn't have to follow a scaly serpent around and that worked GREAT for her. Plus her partner was here, so she had to stay. "It's our treasure, Professor. Me and Kale opened it fair and square. Finders keepers. It's not FAIR the Headmaster got to keep it and decide what we do with it. The ghost shot through me and Kale, not him and we were the only ones brave enough to open it in the first place. Now they're both fighting over who gets to keep it and no one's asked us about it." No one asked before jumping into them and possessing them either, JUST SAYING. There seemed to be a lot of not asking going around these days. "Say, d'you think you can convince him to share it with us, Professor? I'm not asking for much, just what's fair. If we're all doomed, we should at least be able to enjoy it, too." |
Quote:
In the meantime, she had to deal with the professor, who seemed a bit HIGH STRUNG, if y'know what it means. That, plus Bernie was yelling, and some other kid was threatening people, and Phoebe felt like maaaaaaaaybe the class had gotten a bit over control. "Hey, Prof... Emm says we're doomed, so maybe it's time to end class? I don't feel particularly doomed, although did you know your box has a hole in it and all your snakes got out? Seems dangerous." |
It was getting really weird in here, really quick - and Serena was definitely not here for any of it. She picked Sven, their snake, off the ground and held him at arm's length. Like how one would hold a sacrificial offering to the gods; then turned to Avalon. "I was thinking the Whomping Willow?" She asked "We can see how Sven reacts to the tree!" Would the snake like the murderous tree? Would the murderous tree like the snake? Who knows? |
GRYFFINDORS. They were always trying to be the center of attention, but this was getting out of hand. Irithel rolled her eyes as another older student spoke in a deep loud voice, making her jump. Fortunately, she did not upend a box of snakes or anything. Now it looked like her partner was going to have a conversation with Professor Kitridge, and she would be left alone with the snake. She hoped they would be able to figure out what is going on with the treasure business - the professor seemed more reasonable and empathetic than the Headmaster. "I'll take our snake around then," she told Ashley, trying not to sound dejected that she was alone again. Allowing the little snake to slither onto her arm, she walked away from the lake to find a different spot. |
As Claudine made her way back to the Lake where she had originally started out from, she couldn't help but mull over why the snake had acted differently. Of course, Divination was still hocus-pocus in her book so said interpretations may mean nothing. But if they did, did it mean that dangers was definitely going to be in the direction of the pathways as opposed to the duck pond? And if so, what kind of danger? Claudine was trying to put all that she knew had happened so far this school term by the time she returned to the Lake. As for Slythers? He was being carried by his human friend for the day. "Professor, should I return him to the crate now?'' |
Walking back to the lake gathering where the divination class was held, Cole still pondered on why Zorro had hissed at his girlfriend in the pathways like that. It made no sense. If it was supposed to hiss at anyone it'd be at Cole that had made it clear from the start that he had a small aversion against reptiles, not at Naya that was a big creature lover. He certainly hadn't expected either that Zorro freely would want to slither towards him by the great lake shore. Hopefully Professor Kitridge could shed some light on their findings. He was glad that Naya had taken over carrying Zorro. Cole took up position in the circle and waited to hear if they were returning their snakes or what? |
Heath continued to observe the drama unfolding among his classmates, paying especially close attention to Phoebe and Emmerson. Did they really not remember what just happened? And now Bernie and Ashley were speaking in that strange deep voice too. Now he was 100% convinced they were being possessed! Leaving the area to observe snakes was the last thing he wanted to do now! He wanted to stay and hear what the four girls had to say. If he could figure out what was going on, maybe he could help stop it. Claudine’s voice jerked him out of his thoughts. “Oh? Right,” he replied, nodding absentmindedly. “See you in a bit.” He watched her go with growing apprehension. What if the ghost possessed her too? If it did, he would make it his life’s mission to destroy that ghost! Part of him wanted to follow her, just in case something went wrong, but he had a feeling she wouldn’t like that and willed himself to turn in the other direction. “Come on, Baby Yoda,” he whispered to the little snake still hiding behind his hair. The sooner he got this done, the sooner he could get back! Heath returned later, after having completed his observations in the butterfly garden and courtyard, to find Claudine already back. “Hi again,” he said, standing beside her. Did she see anything weird while she was gone? Did that evil treasure-obsessed ghost everyone was talking about possess her? His mind was buzzing with questions; it was all he could do not to go into overprotective boyfriend mode and launch into an interrogation! Instead, he tried to keep the mood light. “Did Slythers enjoy his time on the grounds?” he asked with a slight smile. It was only as he looked at the other snake that he remembered he still hadn’t written down his findings from the courtyard. Better do that now! His eyes flicked from his parchment to the list of interpretations, remembering how eager Baby Yoda seemed to leave that area. “Serpent fully slithers away from an area”... that meant “be cautious of your surroundings”. Okay, got it! He hurriedly jotted his findings down, then looked to the professor for further instructions. |
SPOILER!!: Ashley, Emmerson, Phoebe End class? Pheebs wanted to end class just when the drama started getting GOOD? Bernie could confirm that ol' ghost face had flown through her, and showed this by nodding as Ashley spoke, but she didn't know squat about the treasure. For example, she hadn't known that REALLY it was Emmerson's treasure. "Well it makes sense that Kale's dad tried to keep it, because that's a total dad thing to do," she chimed in with a big eyeroll on behalf of the Headmaster. Especially this year. He'd been THE WORST this year, even more ornery than usual. Besides all that, "I think really it's Emmerson's treasure, and you know how finders keepers works, so shouldn't SHE get to keep it? Isn't that what people do, go around 'discovering' things and then keeping them because they think they got to them first?" AND Bernie had a secondary reason for wanting Emmerson to have the treasure: "If we get the gold back for ya, mate, could you let me have some? I'm poor." True story. Though... how WERE they going to get the treasure back when Bernie was pretty sure it had been used on a swimming pool and stuff like that? |
Naya was still a bit bothered by the fact that Zorro had hissed at her. She walked with Z and Cole back to the class gathering. Suspicious? She had been called many things in life, but never suspicious. Things had been fine at the lake, but it all went downhill at the pathways. Trying to put that behind her she addressed the snake. “Ok Zorro. I’ll still be you friend anyway, even if you think I’m suspicious.” Turning to Cole, she said, “Do you think we have to put him back now?’ Naya wondered if they were going to go over what they had found with the professor next. For now, she just waited and checked out the other students and their snakes. She wondered how their readings had gone. |

As she waited, Kiz made an effort to wiggle her snake around (which it likely did not appreciate) and again it did absolutely nothing cool. It didn't like her (or in all likelihood, it was tired of being mishandled). Snakes are dumb. This was the worst lesson ever. |
SPOILER!!: all the ghost things Well this was all just, she didn't even know what it was all really, but whatever was going on Cassie was starting to get very concerned. She had known about the treasure, Merlin, she had helped decorate some of the areas with the money they had used from this treasure, but a ghost? She had heard a few whispers, but this was just not okay. "We are all going to calm down and no one is ending class." She eyed Phoebe before turning to face all of them. "If a ghost is really.." She stopped as Ashley started with the voice, "ENOUGH, be gone from the children." She had never yelled at a ghost before and it probably wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot. Cassie checked for the other students as she tried to figure out what was really going on. "Have any of you checked the library to see if there is a ghost mentioned or a hidden treasure, so we could see who we are dealing with?" She wasn't sure if that was a start, but if they could figure out who maybe they could figure out how to get rid of them. Quote:
"I hope your snakes were helpful and showed you if there was any danger lurking around." Glancing at the girls she wondered if the snakes could sense the ghost at all, maybe she would ask them later. "Alright everyone I think for safety reasons and time we will end the lesson here. It might be best if you head straight to your next class or your common rooms if you have a break." She might need to go find the headmaster to see what was really going on. **sorry for the delay, class has ended. I will leave it open for 24 hours for anyone that needs to catch up! |
....Professor Kitridge, THE expert on Divination in this castle, really thought that SHOUTING at a ghost would scare it out of, what, the whole group of them? And then if that didn't work, they should visit the LIBRARY???????????????! "You've gotta be kidding me," Bernie mumbled, marching back to her bag to pick up her things and go. This was not good. Emmerson should have just kept the treasure for herself. |
Ashley rolled her eyes. The ghost could smash stuff and possess lots of people. Shouting was not gonna get it out. "I haven't checked the library, because I don't read ancient books for fun, buuut... I guess you could. Like a 50% chance of finding something. But this is Hogwarts, so likely as not it will be a book on how to possess people, not un-possess them." She turned and headed in the other direction. She was going to her common room to take a quick nap. Which was not something she normally did. "See you, professor." |
“Hi, you,’’ Claudine said with a smile as Heath returned. She vaguely wondered if he was tired of her greeting him that way but it had sort of become her… their thing. She trust that he’d tell her if he got bored of any of her habits. “He did. Look.’’ The Snakette held Slythers up to show Heath the faint outline of the duckling in Slythers’ stomach. “He ate a duckling,’’ she continued, her eyes widening slightly. At least the interpretation had been a good one. Curious about Heath and Baby Yoda’s adventures, she peered at the Ravenclaw’s notes. Interesting interpretations were what she found written. Right. Class was ending now. The Slytherin gave Kitridge a nod then shuffled off to deposit Slythers in the crate. “Thank you for being my partner today,’’ she whispered once the snake was settled in. “I um, hope you enjoyed your meal.’’ With that, Claudine went off to collect her belongings and to find Heath again. |
Violet and Tom's Divination results Violet walked back to the Divination Class area holding their snake and deep in thought. She couldn't believe that the snake had curled up in a tight little coil, both times. Text Cut: Courtyard: Text Cut: Pathways: According to the teacher's notes, if the snake curled up in a defensive ball, that meant danger was near. With all the strange goings-on in the castle this term, Violet was not surprised. Normally she didn't put much stock in divination, but this time she was inclined to believe it was true. Besides, if you couldn't trust a snake, who could you believe. She looked back over her shoulder to see if her partner Tom was still with her--that boy was so afraid of snakes, he seemed to be lagging further and further behind with each step. Well, she hoped he was back there some where, but she couldn't wait for him any longer because class was ending. She kind of hated to give up her snake, but she supposed not doing so was probably a good way to lose points, so she carefully put him back in the box. Maybe he would uncurl once he was back among his friends. "Goodbye, Bernard," she said softly, "it's been nice working with you." Then she gathered up her things and joined the other students who were walking back to the castle. |
Heath smiled warmly at the familiar greeting from Claudine, two words that he would never grow tired of hearing. His smile immediately faded upon seeing the duck-shaped outline on Slythers’s stomach. “Oh? So he did,” he said, blinking in shock and sadness. He couldn’t blame Slythers - the snake had only done what came naturally - but all he could think was, Poor baby duck! Dead animals just had that effect on him for some reason; he didn’t know why. He had to quickly look away from Slythers before he could dwell on the dead duck long enough to get emotional. At that moment, Baby Yoda nudged him, providing a timely distraction. “Baby Yoda seemed more interested in following me everywhere than eating,” he said, giving the snake a little pat on the head. At the professor’s instructions, he gently lifted Baby Yoda from his perch atop his shoulders and returned him to the crate. “Bye, Baby Yoda,” he whispered. The little snake poked its head out of the crate and slithered to the other side, as if to follow him. “I know. I wish I could take you with me, but you have to stay.” With that, he turned away to rejoin Claudine. Slinging his bag over his shoulder, he followed her to… wherever she was going next. |
