For now, Heath remained motionless, his eyes glued to the little troll as it crawled out of hiding, He wasn’t going to do anything yet; he’d wait to see what the troll was going to do first. The next thing he knew, it tagged his arm and dropped its doll. Aww! Normally Heath wasn’t one to gush, but this little troll was adorable! He wondered if he could befriend it… if only he could get past the language barrier. The troll baby wouldn’t understand English, but maybe he could figure out what “CURDUR HEDER HEEHEHEHUR?” meant. He considered the context. The troll said it after tagging him, and it was said in a questioning tone. Was the baby troll asking if he wanted to play with it? If so, repeating the same words in an affirmative tone should be a yes. As he watched the troll go across the bridge, it occurred to him that there could be another meaning to the question. What if the troll wasn’t asking if he’d play with it, but follow it? He hesitated, remembering details from Williamson’s memory. Somehow he felt crossing the bridge was a very bad idea! The professor never said they had to follow the trolls, only that they were to meet them. Sorry, baby troll. I can’t follow you, Heath thought. If it wanted to play, it would have to come to him. He looked down at the fallen doll, and that gave him an idea! Trolls liked muggle things, so maybe he could find something to give it. The hand that wasn’t holding his wand rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a pen. He clicked the cap a few times to draw the troll’s attention. Click, click, click. Come here, baby troll, he thought. I’ve got a nice present for you. |
Catching up late oops Okay. Valentina was scared. As much as she enjoyed practical activities, the eleven year old didn’t exactly want to be attacked by big, smelly trolls. Because how would she even defend herself against one??? There were so HUGE. She closed her eyes tight when the mist started to close in around her, wishing she was holding someone’s hand right now. That would have made her feel a little less scared.... maybe. Taking a deep breath and trying not to panic, she opened her eyes finally. Um. Okay. She could see the bridge right in front of her. After looking around for a bit to make sure there weren’t any big trolls standing anywhere nearby ( she would have been able to tell by the disgusting stink but STILL, better to check ) she took a few steps forward before coming to an abrupt stop. |

UUUUUUUUUH. This is fine. This was only going to get worse before it got better and Josh was pretty willing to accept this reality. They may be a CORPSE in those freedom trees if this were real life which thankfully this was not. So in situations like this...you needed to play to your strengths. He knew there was no way he could physically best a single troll and that a whole little army of them was just impossible. He wasn't supposed to use magic against them unless as a last resort, and honestly he wasn't even thinking about his wand at the moment. Where he felt his strength may be was in distraction ... and as his eyes darted around for inspiration all he could think about was how he was on a bridge... On a bridge in troubled times..."When..." he began, his voice cracking just a little in the heat of the moment and high key nervousness that THIS was somehow his master plan of the moment. But he found the right notes half a breath later and got his head in the game. "When you're weeeeeeearyyyy...feeeeeeling small..." Kindoflikehowhewasfeelingrightnow. "When tears AAAAare in .... your eeeEEEeeeeyes," he continued, throwing in a few runs to his vocals and lifting his hands a bit to the side to show that he was...harmless? Probably not exactly smart because he doubted they really cared about THAT...but hErE wE aRe. "....I will dry them aaaaaaall..." |

He was alone on a bridge and he couldn’t use physical force or magic. Cole sadly didn’t have any friends he could call on so what to do? He stole a glance over the side of the bridge to see how high up he was. Maybe he could try to escape into the water? Nervously he locked eyes with the troll in front of him trying to plead. "Please Mr River Troll Sir can't you let me go?" |

They needed to think again. “Diffindo,’’ Claudine said calmly and making the cursive n- like wand movement. A jet of light pink light shot out of her wand which was aimed at the top of the net. Immediately after, her wand was directed at the trolls on her left. Or rather, at that piece of the bridge that separated her and that particular set. “Diffindo.’’ Her aim? To put a giant space in the bridge so that the trolls could not get to her; to rip some of the boards away. That meant she might only have to deal with the ones on the right. Trolls were stupid so chances were the left trolls would not figure out that they could jump over The Great Divide. |

But trolls did like Muggle things. And shoes. So Avalon removed her footwear, leaving one right on the riverbank for the potential trolls in the water and tossing another behind her for whatever footsteps were coming. Perhaps it would distract the trolls long enough for her to get across. In the mean time, she crouched into the shadows, by a nearby bush, and waited to see what would happen next. |

Naya had no desire to fall into the nasty troll water, but that seemed inevitable. Holding her wand tightly as she fell, she quickly said, “Arresto Momentum”. Well, it could of been worse. Naya ended up in the water, but gently. She was a good swimmer, so that wasn’t the problem, but she had to get away from whatever was freaking the trolls out. She decided to go under the bridge with the intention of still heading toward the trees. So she stealthily |

Markers? Candy? Glinda the Teenage Troll wanted none of these things. Instead, she grabbed the girl's wrist and fingers, and began bringing it towards her mouth for a snack. Quote:
The red sparks did confuse the trolls, as at least a few of the younger ones stopped at the water's edge and stared up at the sky, open-mouthed, as though they were watching fireworks. Quote:
But what if a baby troll WAS nearby? Quote:
This was actually decent Trollish, and made the troll glance in the direction she was pointing. "Gruhhhhurrrrrrrrrrrrrr?" the troll questioned, now looking between Mamie and the unicorn. Quote:
Naturally, the troll family carried on with their disgusting picnic, getting drool and meat bits and crumbs everywhere in their vicinity. The one with the best eyes, however, spotted the little movement from the girl lurking at the end of the bridge. Quote:
A pen? A pen wasn't interesting to the baby troll! Quote:
There weren't any BIG stinking trolls standing nearby, but there were two little ones, sitting in the middle of the bridge and passing a harmless Muggle tennis ball between them. Quote:
Wat? WAT WAS THIS? Quote:
The pleas meant nothing to the river trolls, as the one holding his ankles went ahead and chomped its jaws into his leg. The taller one, in his face, just cackled and got out a length of rope to start tying him up. Quote:
The net started to rip and tip Claudine precariously toward the river. The trolls below started grunting and freaking out, a few of them moving to try to stand beneath the net, in case she fell on them directly. A few others felt the STONE bridge start to crumble beneath their feet. It was just a few stones that grew holes in them because of their spell, but it was enough to cause all the trolls to start to grow distressed and angry. Quote:
Taking off her shoes was a stroke of inspired genius, as it did indeed draw out a young troll wearing a paper crown of sorts. The troll walked up to her shoe on the riverbank and gave it a sniff, immediately sticking into its mouth for a taste. Quote:
As most of the trolls were on top of the bridge and not in the water, falling off the bridge proved to be boon to the girl. However, there were so many trolls crossing the bridge at once that it started to groan, and creak, and let off a thick coating of stone dust. |
Ashley yanked her hand back from the troll by using a grip break. OW. THat was her injured hand! "STOP! LET GO OF ME NOW! GO EAT SOMEONE ELSE"S FINGERS! SERIOUSLY LEAVE ME ALONE. YOU CAN EVEN HAVE MY SWEATER IF YOU LET ME GO. MY FINGERS ARE BURNED ANYWAY! STOP BEING MEAN! WHY CAN'T WE JUST BE FRIENDS AND AGREE TO NOT EAT EACH OTHER!?!?" Hopefully that would scare the little troll off. It worked for bears, why not trolls? "Lumos," she said, pointing her wand in the river, trying to gauge if it was safe to jump in. She attempted some troll. "Guhr RUrhk GURH" |
Mamie pulled hand away from the troll as soon as it released her. She frowned, watching the the troll gesture at her and then at the unicorn. It...it wanted the unicorn? She glanced uneasily back at the unicorn. Was the troll just going to eat it? It was awfully pretty, and hadn't done anything wrong. If the choice was between eating her and eating the unicorn...Mamie took a deep breath and tried to remind herself that this wasn't real, just a daydream simulation. Maybe if she just tried to get the unicorn to come closer, the troll would let her go. She didn't know how to capture a unicorn, after all. She took a few cautious steps toward the unicorn. She did NOT want the troll to think she was trying to run away and grab her again. "He-heeere, unicorn, unicorn," she called softly. "Here, pretty unicorn," she said. Ooh, maybe she could get the unicorn to run at the troll and attack it. Were unicorns aggressive? She dug in her pockets, looking for any snacks that the unicorn might want. Nope, no snacks. She held her empty hand out toward the unicorn anyway. "Heeere unicorn," she said hopefully. Not wanting the troll to think she forgot about it, she looked back at the troll between attempts to call the unicorn. "Hhhrehguh," she grunted at it, trying to indicate that she was trying to get it what it wanted before returning to calling the unicorn. |

Caution who?? Lesson learned from Professor Williamson WHERE?!?! Emmerson skipped across the bridge, making silly faces at the baby troll the whooooole time. Had to make sure she didn't spook it. Where was Kizzy? Didn't she want to come get this baby troll with her? Look how cuuute. Even his little horns. She would call him Toby and he would be loved. "Here Toby....heeeeere Toby." On the other side, the little girl slowed down to approach the bush. "Here boy, c'mere, heeeere Toby." Did he like snacks? She could pretend to have some. |

“Impedimenta!’’ Hopefully that handy little spell would be able to buy her some time. “Diffindo.’’ Claudine’s wand was once again pointed at the net, in an effort to hurry the ripping process up. There was another plan in mind but it now depended on where the net tipped her. |

Oh, no! Poor baby troll! Don’t cry… Heath had no idea what he’d done to set it off, but he knew he had to figure out how to calm it and fast! Okay, so it probably didn’t like the pen. Now what? As he looked around, his eyes fell to the doll at his feet. Was this what the baby wanted? If so, how could he give it back without walking onto the bridge? Sorry, little troll, but he was in no mood to be the guest of honor at a troll family reunion! An idea suddenly occurred to him! The only problem was he needed his wand to do it, but he also needed his wand to see his surroundings. Maybe there was a way he could do both… “Nox,” Heath whispered, allowing the light from his wand to go out. Wasting no time, he cast another spell, and bluebell flames hovered over his left hand. Now that his wand was free, he could use it for what he had in mind. “Wingardium leviosa,” he cast on the doll, watching as it rose in the air. Taking a cautious step forward, he directed it down the bridge toward its owner, bouncing it up and down a little in an attempt to make it look like it was dancing. He wan’t using magic to harm the troll; he was using it to entertain it. Come on, baby troll! Watch the dollie... |

But wait. Was this a bad idea? Kizzy dropped her hand to THINK. Professor Williamson said she wasn't supposed to hug the trolls (even though they looked SO huggable). And she didn't want to get eaten. And--BUT LOOK AT THE LITTLE ONE. So naturally, Kinsay made the decision to stay put and continue waving. Technically she wasn't breaking Professor Williamson's rules because she wasn't running at them for hugs. If THEY ran at her for hugs though... Who was she to deny? |

Naya quickly got herself out from beneath the bridge and with not a moment to spare. Before you could say Merlin’s Beard, the bridge came tumbling down and with it many, many trolls. As if that wasn’t bad enough, some trolls were heading her way and they seemed to be moving with a purpose. Welp, there was only one thing that Naya could think of to do. Her track skills hadn’t helped, now her swimming abilities were being tested. She dove under the water, hoping that the trolls were too dumb to figure out her plan. Doubtful, but she had to go for it. Hoping she could hold her breath long enough, Naya swam underwater. She was determined to get away........or else. |
OK her plan worked! They were distracted! They were stopping! WAIT WAIT WAIT - THEY WERE NOT STOPPPING. Only some of them were - and some of them were taken care of by the birds, and so Aboli screeeeeeeched when one of the trolls decided to try to JUMP on her. She stumbled and fell, feeeeeeeeling that in her side. Ouch. She was fine, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. She scurried up as quickly as she could, not letting the brief hit stop her, and one of the slower moving trolls stepped by and Aboli thought it was her chance! She HOPPED onto the larger troll's feet and wrapped her arms around his leg, dying from the smell a little but otherwise okay. Now would she be able to hold on?! She had her wand clutched in her hand in case anything went awry... |
these were too funny not to reply to one last time... THX 4 COMING, ALL <3 Quote:
ALL THE YELLING made the troll just YELL back! It wasn't intimidated. THIS VOLUME WAS WHAT TROLLS USED ALL THE TIME, ANYWAY! Quote:
The unicorn snorted, looking up from its grazing to stare between the human and the troll. It seemed displeased with what it saw, and stomped its hooves a few times as though warning them off. Quote:
Toby? Who was Toby? The troll made a face back at the girl and did a somersault across the bottom of the bridge. Quote:
The net continued to rip, much to the dismay of the trolls beneath it, one of whom was gaping and grunting at the girl in such distress that it actually let its grip of the net go... Quote:
Miraculously, the trick seemed to work. The baby troll stopped crying and began clapping, stomping, and cheering for the dancing dolly. Quote:
The h00man was BECKONING her to come! LOOK! "Hurhurhurur!" the troll baby cried, flinging its dragon backwards and taking off across the bridge and towards Kinsay at a hearty toddle. Quote:
The trolls were, indeed, confused when the hooman disappeared. One actually scratched at its head while the other leaned back, determined to float away from this mess. Quote:
Did the trolls notice that they had a tourist on board now? Not even a little bit.__________________ Merlin, the sun had almost completely set now. It would be time to send these kids straight to bed! "Sorry, kids, the daydream's gotta end," he called out from his conjured lawn chair, waving his wand at them all and lowering the mist. The daydream would fade out slowly for them, so as not to jar their trip back into reality. Some had succeeded, and some made him wonder how they'd survived past the age of two. "Homework's to write a 12-inch reflection on what you learned from this encounter, and what you'd do differently." He glanced around at the kids and took a sip from his ginger beer. "So, it's not so easy to get past a river troll, is it?" Could they tell he was smirking, or was it too dark to notice? __________________ OOC: Thank you all so much for coming and participating! Feel free to have your charrie react to the daydream ending/post their leaving. I'll close the thread in the morning. ^_^ |
i was done typing five minutes after you posted ;______; SAD Quote:
He glanced over his shoulder at the trolls covering their ears and seeming to be paralyzed by his singing, the Gryffindor sang even more from his diaphragm and really started to belt it while continuing forward at a speed walk kind of pace. "I'm on your siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIiiiiiide .... ooooooooooooooooooh when times get rooooOooooouUUUUgh..." A few riffs while his eyes darted around and he ducked under the rock thrown at him, bouncing back up and taking it all up another notch as he sang for the back row of the Phoenix Theater. "AND FRIENDS JUST CAN'T BE FOOOoooOOOOooooUND...LIKE A BRIDGE OVER...TROOoooOOOUBLED WATER...I WILL LAY ME DOOOOOOOWN..." He was also going out on a limb here and assuming that...the better he sung the worse they thought it would sound which...sure. He could take the back handed compliment. Walking forward still, Josh kept his eyes ahead on the boulder wielding troll ... but was absolutely getting caught up in the song (it was one of his favorites for a sort of warm up) and was still belting it out even as the daydream began to fade and was STILL serenading the now no where to be seen trolls when it faded completely. "LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE A BRIDGE OVER TROOOOOOOOoooOOOOOUBLED WATER...I WILL EASE YOUR MIIIIIIiiiiIiIiIiIiIIIIIiIiInd....EASE YOUR MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIND oooooooooooooooh noneofyouaretrolls..." He was just...well...he was just going to go collect his things then. Clearing his throat and offering Aboli a bit of a sheepish look because...yeah...that cat was out of the bag now, apparently, Josh scrambled back towards his things and tried not to make any eye contact with Professor Williamson either. |
NO! Ashley's fingers were all important. "URgh guhr urgh!" she said, meaning no you can't eat my fingers, you can try my fingernail if you want to, go ambush someone else. But before she could get the reaction, the daydream faded out. Pity. That was pretty epic. She could hear the professor smirking as he told them that river trolls were hard to get past. But honestly, if she had been able to run for it instead of getting bounced back by a force field, she wouldn't have lost any fingers. And since her arm was a total write-off at the moment, she wouldn't mind losing her right middle finger. That troll was kinda cool. But she wasn't really interested in saying that aloud. She yawned. It was really late. She was tired out and her arm was throbbing. She was only eleven after all, and it was her first day of school at like 11 pm. She'd do her homework in the morning. She wondered what a twelve inch-response was. She figured she would just ask her prefect later. |

As the troll got closer, Kizzy started making her way towards it too, her arms stretched out WIDE to receive the baby in her arms and give it a big SQUI-- Huh? They were done? But, but, but she was JUST about to give the baby troll a HUG. This was so unfair. With her arms still outstretched, Kizzy looked over at Professor W and gave him a deep POUT. He ruined everything. "C'mon, Emm." She spoke as she reached for her things. "I hope next time we get to play with REAL creatures." She tried to say it loud enough so that their professor heard. HINT, HINT, HINT. |
As Valentina moved a little more closer to the bridge, she immediately noticed the two baby trolls sitting on the bridge. BABY TROLLS. BABIES. Her eyes widened as she watched them play.. wondering if they would let her join! They looked so CUTE, they were giggling TOO!!! AWWW. How could they be dangerous!? She took a couple more steps, looking around to make sure their parents weren’t anywhere nearby. .... Oh. Now, they were looking at her questioningly. Uhhhhhh.. now, what?? She paused for a long moment before waving at them, smiling a little?? Hiii? |

Claudine was quite tempted to let out a cheer but realised that there was indeed an opportunity to make her great escape. Luck was on her side as well for that one troll actually let the net go. And then she was being tipped into the stream. Claudine took a deep breath just before she hit the water. The girl went under but kicked hard and came up immediately. Quickly, she started to swim for safety. But it was that moment when she and everyone else were brought back to the real world. Class was ending already? “Super fun lesson, Professor. See you tomorrow.’’ Claudine gave Williamson a wave and as she departed, added cheekily, “Try not to go off messing with any trolls again.’’ |
