| | |  Boathouse
 Every September 1st, the first years arrive at Hogwarts by boats that carry them across the Great Lake to the Boathouse. Apart from the entrance from the Lake through the long tunnel underneath the castle, this underground harbour can also be reached from the Boathouse Steps which leads down the side of the cliff on which the castle sits and from the path leading down from the paved courtyard.
The Boathouse store the boats for the arriving first years and departing seventh years, but with permission from the Groundskeeper you may be permitted to use one of the boats for an afternoon or two. Life vests, oars, fishing tools, nets and everything else you might need are either hanging on hooks or nails on the wall or lying on the wooden bench. Please put everything back in its proper place, should you move stuff around. The Groundskeeper will know if you haven't.

Exploring new territory wasn't something Kinsay James liked to do on her own. She usually did that with the help of her more outgoing friends (like Emmerson and/or Emma), but she had woken up first this morning with something very important on her mind. She needed to find it and it was probably in the boat because that's the last time she could remember having it.
Fortunately, she managed to find her way to the boathouse without getting lost (an incredible feat on its own because she had no idea as to how to navigate this castle yet) (it's so big) (way bigger than Stark School). But once she found the boats, she realized that she had no idea to differentiate between them. Kizzy stared at them and considered her options VERY carefully.
And when it became clear that there was only one way to go about this, she did just that and climbed into the first boat. The first year bent down and looked carefully under the little wooden planks. Hm. It wasn't in this one. So she quickly climbed out of the first boat and hopped into the next one in the line up. Only... It looked like this boat wasn't secured to the dock as well as the first had been. And unbeknownst to Kinsay, while she was ducked down, looking for what she had left behind... The boat started slowly floating away from the dock.

Ashley wasn't sure why she was in the boathouse. She sorta came in there by accident. She was barely through the door when another first year started accidentally floating away from the dock. "Hey, what are you doing?" she ran and grabbed the rope that had once held the boat at the dock, yanking it back. "Also, whoever tied this boat to the dock did a pretty terrible job knotting it. It was like, barely secured." She knew all about knots, having spent so much time near the water. She used this experience to tie the boat back up securely. This was a very confusing sight. There was another first year... who probably shouldn't have been here either... in a boat... accidentally floating away... with no life jacket or paddles... and they didn't notice. Just, what? At least they never got too far away from the dock, because Ashley would hate to swim out and get them. That water looked cold. And dark. | |

No one would be surprised if Adam told them that he spent most mornings out and about, exploring the castle. His siblings had told him ALL the fun stories about how COOL the castle was and he wasn't going to wait a single SECOND when it came to seeing it for himself. Today his adventures had taken him to the boathouse - which sounded way cooler than it turned out to be, apparently. Oh, they just kept those dinky little boats the first years took to the castle in here? He thought they had pirate ships! Now he was upset.
Until he noticed another first year, and Fish Girl Kinsay...who was apparently just taking the boat out?? You could do that?! NO WAY! SO COOL! "KINSAY!" he cried out. "Where are you going?!" not at all thinking about the fact that his sudden arrival and SCREECH of a greeting might startle them. Or realizing that the Ravenclaw was trying to bring her BACK to the dock.

Ashley was trying to tie the knot when she was startled by a loud voice. "AAA!" she shrieked, almost dropping the rope. "Could you like, NOT do that? Also, nobody is going anywhere, so chill. I'm just tying up this boat so Kinsay doesn't float away. Why are you yelling?" she asked, somewhat annoyedly. | |

She quickly whipped her head around and frowned at the Ravenclaw. ”Looking for something.” It wasn’t any of her business, so Kizzy didn’t feel the need to elaborate further. It was also then that she noticed she had floated away from the dock a bit, but it didn’t scare her. ”I know how to swim.” And she could hold her breath underwater for one minute and thirty-two seconds (which was a very long time).
Much longer than it took her housemate to show up and start yelling. ”Are you always this loud?” She casually asked the other Gryffindor. It was starting to become a trend. Also, Kinsay never asked anyone to tie any ropes, for the record. She frowned even more, looking back at the Ravenclaw."Stop being mean to Adam." In truth, Kinsay didn't even entirely like Adam, but she didn't like the way that girl was talking to him. It was really mean and belittling. Two things Kizzy James HATED.
