 If you want to be the last to leave or want to hang with the more rowdy crowd, then the back passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

Valencia helped herself to a seat in an empty compartment. She settled against the window and opened up a journal she'd kept on her for most of the summer. She'd been disappointed with her OWL scores and was determined to start right away on her NEWTS.
But... she'd failed at that. She hadn't finalized her study plan yet. She had months to work on it and hadn't finished it yet.
She rested her book in her lap before looking out the window. She was curious how many students would be returning this year. She'd heard that there were quite a few people that were on edge after last year's events and wouldn't be returning. She didn't see much of the point of that -- magic always had some risks and she quite liked Hogwarts.

Summer over already.... and what a boring one it was. Daniel made his way down one of the back carriages as the train slowly made its way out of London. Well he supposed the horse thing was sort of interesting, he had gained a vague new interest in the sport of magical horse racing. One thing he had not gained was any improvements in the quality of his home life, after days and weeks of waiting to see his Father there was an extremely last minute exchange between the two the night previous, and that would be it until after school term had finished.
At this point Daniel was in his own world and had passed numerous empty compartments, it wasn't until he reached the very back of the train that he snapped back to reality and took a seat in the last compartment. Once inside he slouched down into the seat and closed his eyes.

Frankie boarded the train after giving her dad, grandfather, and great aunt hugs and kisses and made her way to the back of the train. She was happy she found an empty compartment. She was not sure about meeting others right now. This was all new to her and her emotions were all over the place. She was nerves, excited and a little sad.
She had a seat next to the window and watches the scenery go by as the train heads out.

After putting her trunk in the luggage car, Nova took her owl Milo in his cage and went straight for the back cars. They were usually emptier than the front and middle and you could always find an empty compartment.
After walking down the length of the car, she finally found an empty compartment. She set Milo down gently, before getting herself comfortable next to the window. She was sure she would have to share with someone, but hopefully they weren't too loud. She could use a nap.

She had left her brothers, Jude and Cian, as soon as possible, telling them that she was going to find her friends, but really she just needed some time alone with her thoughts. Those thoughts swan around her brain as she walked from the front to the back of the train, looking for an empty compartment. It was scary to be going back to Hogwarts after what happened last term, but she refused to be - as she saw it - defeated by the school and transfer to Ilvermorny because of that. Her second year was going to be SO much better than her first, she was certain. Determined, even. She would not be beaten.
Still, she was nervous about returning... and she felt guilty, too. It was in the back of her mind that Jude and Cian would both have preferred to go to Ilvermorny instead. They were only returning because of her. And she missed her parents already. All of this was just a lot for the little brunette to process right now.
After a while of looking for an empty compartment, she gave that up and started looking for one that had only one other person in it. That didn't take her long to achieve. Quietly, Eimear pulled open the door to the compartment and poked her head inside. She offered the older girl a small smile. "Do you mind if I sit in here?"
