When you step into the Transfiguration classroom, for the last period before lunch on Friday, one of the first things you might notice, is how different the classroom looks today. Maybe, you notice that there is only one, large rectangle table in the middle of the rectangular room? Or perhaps you notice the lack of chairs?
Professor Eris is standing by the door to greet you, and as he does he motions towards the back wall and the cubbies that are there. “Good morning. Please put everything into the space that you pick. The only thing you need today is your wand.” Perfect, that’s it.
The blackboard behind the Professor was blank for the moment, however there was a second (closed) door behind Carwyn’s left shoulder. The door behind the Professor was on a partition that stood easily eight feet high so no-one, not even he, could see over it. Yet. at least. The room they were working in, was roughly ten feet wide but longer. Though there was plenty of table space for maneuverability as everybody began to pick the spot around the table that they wanted to work at. At each workstation around the table, there was a single matchstick.
Calling out, the Welshman told them to store everything apart from their wand in a cubby. Then he checked the time piece in his pocket because the blood red sky that they could see through the one window in the room reminded him too much of a sunrise to lend itself to correctly telling the time. Ominous as it was considering the time and the hours that had passed since sunrise, he wondered if the Gryffindor’s liked the colour. Alas, Carwyn pulled his eyes away from the sky and checked on the students who were already patiently waiting and the time piece once more.
“Three minutes to go,” he said for them all to hear. They knew he didn’t like to close his door early, yet he stood calmly at the door as he waited for the minutes to pass and the lesson to start. Carwyn Eris was excited for today’s lesson! Could they tell, as he checked the time again.
Ooc: Heelloo and welcome to our first OOC Transfiguration lesson! Please remember that we've had two months of IC classes already, so your characters would know him already! Come on in and join us, and I will move us on in roughly 24-26 hours, around lunch time tomorrow (GMT).

The moment she stepped into the classroom, one eyebrow lifted slightly, the only act betraying her surprise of the setting of the classroom. What could they possibly be focusing on today? "Hi, Professor. Interesting setting today.'' She offered him a small smile then set about putting everything but her wand into a cubby. Her thoughts turned to the red sky as she was still sure it was a sign of something bad to come. It bothered her a lot.
And what was with that other door? She stared at it as she remained at a workstation as away from the front as she could get. A match?
"Hello Professor." Blake added when he walked into the classroom. Observing the room. Interesting set up they had going on here today. Very interesting, looks like it should be a good lesson today.
Noticing Claudine ... as she was the only one here, he gave her a head nod... but didn't feel much like talking to her.

The red sky sure was ominous. Aboli thought it was weird considering it was...before lunch...on a Friday. It wasn't like the sun was rising right now. Hmm. It set her at unease, but she was quickly distracted by that at the sight of the Charms classroom. NO chairs? NO SITTING? That meant...no notes? Aboli felt weeeeird not taking a single note! A more practical class, then? Hmm.
Stashing her things away in a cubby, she grabbed her wand and stood off to the side. "Good day, Professor Eris," she said politely. She also gave a nod to both Claudine and Blake. Cool. Slytherin paaaarty!

Adjusting the strap of his messenger bag, Ronan was daydreaming as he walked into the classroom and stopped short at the surprising interior. Uhm. Why was the sky red? This was Transfiguration, right? He hadn't accidentally walked into some advanced weather charms lesson right? If Ronan hadn't spotted Professor Eris standing by the blackboard, he'd had gone to the trouble of double checking his schedule. He wasn't even sure he had it on him.
"Hello Professor," Ronan greeted his teacher with a smile and a nod, carefully putting his bag in the lowest cubby he could find. As an added precaution he removed his cloak and folded it with the yellow facing up next to the bag. Distinct enough? He really didn't want someone to accidentally take his bag at the end of the lesson. That would be horrible.
Flicking his wrist to snap his wand out of its holster, Ronan looked around for familiar faces.

Another day, another ominous sky color. The red was certainly unique....and even more apocalyptic than the purples and dark blues that had painted the sky recently. To make matters even more strange, the Transfiguration classroom was completely rearranged. "Hello Professor Eris," Avalon said as she made her way to the cubbies. Apparently she wouldn't even need to take notes today, as she was instructed to only bring her wand to her workstation. She took up a spot next to Aboli and gave her a friendly wave.
Avalon had only been standing at her spot for a few moments when Professor Eris again told them to put their belongings in the cubbies and checked the time. Uhh...hadn't he just done that? Maybe he just wanted to make sure everyone had heard him. Or he was just super excited to start today's lesson?

Naya was starving. She wasn’t sure how she would make it through Transfiguration without embarrassing stomach growls. She entered the classroom and.....oh ok. This was different. “Hello Professor”, Naya said, with a curious look. She could not begin to imagine what was in store for them today. When she was instructed to put her things away and keep only her wand, she was even more intrigued.
Naya went straight to the cubbies and deposited her belongings. Then she found an empty spot at the table and stood, since there were no seats to be had. Now she was going to have to wait for everyone else to arrive and she had nothing to keep herself busy with in the meantime. Soooo, she just rolled her wand through her fingers and watched for the student arrivals.

As always, Nettie was super excited and thrilled to be in Transfiguration. This class, out of all the others, was obviously her favorite and the one she excelled in the most. Plus it was the only one she knew without a doubt she'd get an O in when it came to her NEWTs. She smiled at the professor as she walked in and then...paused. No desks? Interesting. There was...a lot going on in the classroom, and it was hard to pick what she wanted to focus on as she headed to a cubby and stored her things, taking out her wand.
"Morning Professor," she added with a smile as she took a spot near the back, preferring to see what this lesson was all about before she got clsoer.

Juliette had never been a huge fan of Transfiguration. Maybe that's why her textbook for the class kept getting misplaced running away from her bag. The delightful part was that now her bag was lighter as she made her way to the classroom. She quickly finished off the jelly slug that she had been chewing on (it was a healthy breakfast) and smoothed out her uniform before entering the... odd classroom.
"Hello Professor," Juliette greeted the man at the front. Had the classroom been robbed? And what was up with the sky? She followed the examples of the other students and placed her belongings, except her wand, in the back cubbies. See, it was a good thing she didn't have her transfiguration textbook today. They probably weren't even going to use it.
Had the sky been red all morning? Hm... Juliette sure hadn't noticed. She stood at an empty spot at the table because the room had been robbed or they had made an unfair trade for matches.

Bernie LOOOOOOOOOOVED transfiguration. She'd had a fondness for it ever since Barlow had shown them how to grow mustaches and unibrows, but ALSO she adored Prof. Eris, who reminded her of an old grampa who tried to be strict and fussy but secretly enjoyed chaos (like her).
AnyWHO. She skipped into class RIGHT ON TIME, mind you, and then looked around....at the uh, set-up......and skipped on over to the cubbies, where she stashed her things. Except her wand, of course, that was always at home in her boot. Bernie LOOKED for someone GOOD to stand next to, but the COOL Slytherins were tainted by Claudine's presence, and so... she'd just join the horde of Gryffindors over here.
Juliette and Naya and Kale Trent got solid nods, as did jolly ol' Nettie. Hehe. This was going to be a FUN lesson, she could FEEL it. Even the sky was playing fun tricks on them today. Its colour reminded her of the inside of a Simca plum. Yummmmmm.

It was Friday and this prefect was ready for the weekend but he had but one last lesson to pay attention in. Yes, he couldn’t just switch off, not when his NEWT’s were quickly approaching.
Today, it seemed as though he was going to be forced to pay attention down to the final moments of the day, what, with the lack of tables and chairs in the classroom, it didn’t seem as though he would be able to get away with just sitting there and paying the minimal attention. Never mind.
Walking in, he gave a small nod and a ”Good afternoon Professor” not really wanting to waste time with pleasantries today, instead simply storing his things in one of the cubbies provided except for his wand now and then heading for a space near the middle of the class, not bothering to really interact with anyone today. No, he wanted to get this over with and leave.

Friday wasn't a good day for Isla to have class. She hadn't really decided if there was such a thing as a good day for classes, but she just knew it wasn't Friday. She was just ready for the weekend and had pretty much given her last little bit of attention she had to the previous four days.
She tried not to let it show as she entered the Transfiguration classroom. She even gave Eris a nice little grin as she passed him by. "Morning, Professor!" she said. She bee-lined for the cubbies and stashed everything but her wand inside. As she headed away from the cubbies and back to where the class would be held, she cast a glance out the window. "Somebody should really do something about that sky, Sir," she pointed out. "I still we've been hit with a poisonous gas or something."

The ever-changing color of the sky was starting to mess with Carys’ mind, even as it still also was proving to be rather intriguing to her artistic sensibilities. Her early morning runs were strange when it was hard to tell if it was morning or sunset or the world was ending, and half of her was tempted to start keeping track of whatever colors it changed to. Maybe just to see if it repeated colors, maybe to see if it favored certain ones…she wasn’t sure which. It might just have been a way to keep herself from dwelling on the implications, honestly. Sixth year was supposed to be the easy year, between OWLs and NEWTs. The world wasn’t supposed to end.
Granted, the world might not be ending, but until someone came up with a better idea it was hard not to think that. Or at least that all the spells protecting Hogwarts were starting to fail miserably. Either way, she had made her way to the Transfiguration classroom, as positive as she could be given the circumstances. There might have been some chocolate involved, a snack before lunch. Either way, she had her usual smile on her face as she’d entered the classroom, blue eyes noting the lack of chairs even as she made her way over to a cubby to store her bag. Her wand was in the holster on her wrist, so that was easy. She just had to stow everything else. “Hello, Professor Eris,” she added, taking up a position near the table to wait. Matches and mysterious doors, hm? Were they working on fire spells, maybe?

Transfiguration class time!! Yesss. The boy was having a great idea. Noah was having a great day so far. Got up early, went for a run, took a shower, and finished all of his pre-reading for his next classes.
He arrived in time to make it into his classroom and see a few classmates here. "Hello Professor!" he greeted a nod before walking over to find a seat near Aboli. "Aboli," he said with a nod.
She was here, okay? And she was actually here on TIME. But, it felt like barely. K had to scurry down the remainder of the hall, before slowing herself outside the door so she didn't get yelled out for rushing. Walking into the classroom, she beamed at Professor Eris, "Hello, Professor. Looking forward to class." But probably not for the right reasons. Hearing the instructions, she headed towards the back of the classroom, locating herself a cubby and stashing her belongs -- minus her wand.
Once that had been completed, she went to find herself a spot the people she recognized who seemed fairly clustered together. She sent a smile towards Aboli and Noah before settling into a spot next to Avalon and grinning her way as well. She was excited to see they were only needing their wands. Perhaps this would actually be another fun class? She much preferred practical use over note taking.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona entered the Transfiguration classroom, observing the layout of the classroom. "Hello, Professor Eris," she greeted before she stored her belongings sans wand in one of the cubbies as per Professor Eris' instructions. She stood at workstation near Claudine and gave her a friendly smile.
Islay looked into the transfigurations classroom before walking into the room – it looked like the room was on the small but long side, interesting. “Good Morning Professor Eris,” she smiled over to the older Professor and librarian as she made her way into the room and quickly tucked away everything save for her wand. As she made her way to a workstation she couldn’t help but grin at the matchstick.
“interesting” she muttered to herself, as she sent nods to her classmates Naya, Aboli, Juliette,...really, it felt like her head was stuck on bobble mode as she gave the tall-tree-guy Ewan a nod. Finally, she made her way over toward where Aboli, Noah, and Kimmie were situated and picked the spot next to Kimmie.

“Good morning, Professor Eris,” Jina greeted the professor as she stepped into the Transfiguration classroom. There was only one more class to go before lunch, so of course she was thinking a lot about what to eat later (salad, or sandwich?). She noticed a moment later that the classroom looked different from usual. A large table in the middle, workstations around it but no chairs. Oh, there was a matchstick on each workstation too, though she almost missed it. Were they doing match to needle? That was one of the first transfiguration spells she learned.
She put her bag in a cubby at the back wall, only holding her wand. That was simple - she hoped the professor could give them notes since they were not allowed to take notes themselves … hehe. If not, she could always make them after class. She picked a workstation and looked around the room while waiting for the lesson to begin. It looked like the professor was checking the time a lot.

Transfiguration had become one of Heath's favorite subjects. He still struggled with some parts of it, but he was getting better! He walked into the room, expecting to see the normal classroom layout, but that didn't happen. Well, this was an interesting setup! His eyes darted from the rectangular table to the door behind the professor. What was with the door? Were they supposed to go through it? If so, were they going to transfigure something to help them get up there? Or maybe whatever was behind the door was going to come to them instead? Consider his curiosity piqued!
"Hello, Professor," Heath greeted, smiling slightly. He quickly made his way to the back of the room and placed his stuff, save for his wand, in one of the cubbies. He took the nearest empty space at the table, and it was only then that he noticed the matchstick at each place. How did those fit with the rest of this setup? Oh well, he supposed he'd find out soon enough!

....could that second year STOP going on about poisonous gases?
Talk about timing as the seventh year entered the classroom, honestly. Making sure to steer clear of all THAT, Eiji found himself a spot beside Jina to endure this Transfiguration lesson. Offering her a wry smile, the Slytherin glanced at the matchstick and then offered the sky another cursory glance. Poisonous gas...honestly. Though he would keep his mouth shut since he was...rather well versed when it came to such subjects.
Anyway.
As for Professor Eris...Eiji offered the usual casual eye contact and nod of the head in greeted as he twirled his wand around in his fingers. This sky rubbish was starting to mess with his private garden a bit and it was irritating. He had had to toss everything he had harvested earlier because it was wilted and the numbers made absolutely no sense when he had investigated.
Honestly. HONESTLY. What ELSE could this school take from him?!

Right on time. Jillian smiled as her eyes stared at the professor "Hello, Professor" she greeted and followed his orders. The seventh year Slytherin placed all of her things in one of the cubbies and only brought her wand with her.
She was quick to notice the red sky, it reminded her of the sunset too. One she enjoys staring at every once in awhile before heading to the great hall for some dinner.... but then again the red sky is a whole other thing. She took a deep breath and shook her head lightly before she joined her classmates.
Isla hadn't gotten the scent of his not exactly odorless fart Cole secretly hoped as he shuffled into the classroom at little after some of his other peers, but still on time for transfiguration. The set up was eye-catching to say the least with what appeared from afar to be matchsticks on each workstation, but no chairs and the backdrop of a blood red sky. Flashing Professor Eris a smile Cole greeted. "Good day Professor Eris. Is it just my stomach talking or doesn't the sky outside very much resemble a blood orange?" The last class before lunch always had him thinking about food. He was a growing, gangly youth that needed to eat often. As instructed Cole went over to the back wall and chose a free cubbie that he stashed his backpack and everything in aside from his trusted wand. Cole shot Claudine a long glance where she had taken up position in the back before he went over to occupy the workstation next to Naya.

“Miss Bellchant, come on in.” He motioned to the cubby’s with one hand even as he gave her a smile in return of her grin. In comparison to Bernie’s enthusiasm and energy, Isla didn’t seem to have any at all… he hoped she perked up a little bit. “Poisonous gas?” He repeated, eyes looking towards the sky. Gases were not his forte but he didn’t think anyone could spread a gas so far as it had been without the original blue poking through. “Hmmm.” He answered noncommittally as another of the school Prefects entered.

A smile was given to the prefect when she moved into the room, “Good morning, Prefect Rose.” The Hufflepuff had a smile on her face, and he would take that as a positive considering the dual fact of the changing sky and it being Friday. It’s okay kids, just a few more lessons and then it was the weekend. You could do it. Carwyn believed in you all.

“Good morning, Mr Nam.” The Transfiguration Professor welcomed. However, when the Gryffindor moved over to stand beside Aboli he added; “Remember and store your things, Noah. Pick a cubby at the back and just keep your wand.” A warm smile was added, as he made sure that nothing cluttered the floor around the table.

Carwyn gave the fourth year a wide beam at that welcome. “Perfect, Miss Amstern. That’s exactly what I like to hear!” Could she tell by his smile that she’d made an old man happy? “Get yourself a space, we’ll be starting in two minutes.”

“Good morning, Miss Jenovick!” He gave her a smile after double-taking her. He could have sworn he had seen his own daughter Morgan for a minute, but he hadn’t. She was much too old to be at school now, but Fiona’s red-hair had thrown him for a few seconds.

“Miss Moreau! Come in, come in. Just store your things and find a spot. There are still plenty left.” Had he said that already, hmm. No matter - she hadn’t been here then. He smiled at her and turned back towards the door as another greeting started.

“Come in, Miss Morin.” Carwyn shot her a wide smile and motioned to the cubby’s. Oh, perfect she was following Islay and the other students. Wasn’t she clever? Well. She was a Ravenclaw, heh. Moooving on before he got nostalgic about things from over fifty years ago.

Ahhh, here was another of the Ravenclaw’s who always seemed to give 100% in lessons. Perfect, and with a smile too. What more could the Welshman ask for? “Good morning, Mr Jones.” He nodded and smiled at Health before he moved away to get settled for the class.
SPOILER!!: Eiji

As he’d been saying hello to the other students, Mr Rasting has silently slipped inside. It wasn’t until he was checking how many empty spaces there were at the table that he properly noticed the Seventh year standing there - however, as he got a greeting from across the room, the older man smiled and nodded his head in return - he appreciated the silent hello, especially seeing as he apparently missed Eiji entering. Whoops. Sorry, Mr Rasting. We see you now.

One she enjoys staring at every once in awhile before heading to the great hall for some dinner.... but then again the red sky is a whole other thing. She took a deep breath and shook her head lightly before she joined her classmates.
One minute to go, there were still a couple of empty spaces however. Carwyn moved to take a step closer to the door to check the corridor, and in walked the Head Girl. “Miss Kim, good morning. Get yourself a place and we will be starting soon.”

“Good morning Mr Vance. Find yourself a space.” He said in greeting, even as his eyes flickered towards the window. “Hmm, no.. I think I would have said more garnet, though you’ll get lunch after this.” He continued to the door to look out of the door to check for any stragglers. They would be getting the class underway very soon and he was excited to see them tackle today's subject.
Carwyn checked over his shoulder to confirm that all of the students were settled and had a place around the table. Wouldn’t do for him to have miscounted how many matchsticks he needed for this to succeed. That would have been a nightmare when they had gotten into the actual lesson. However, it seemed everyone had one, so with one final look out of the door, he closed it behind him and turned to the students.
”Perfect, now let us get started!” He grinned again, and covered the small space between the door and the table. “I have an interesting lesson planned for today so I hope everyone is ready to pay attention.” Carwyn told them as he took the last step to stand at the end of the desk, looking at them all, before he placed his own wand next to the matchstick that he had in front of him.
One lesson, then lunch. Easy, he hoped that they were ready to become fully engrossed.
“Now, let’s start off with a brief recap to get our brains turning.” The Transfiguration Professor started, still very much smiling. “Who can tell me an example of transfiguration and which sub-branch of Transfiguration it would fall under?” He looked around his group of students, encouraging them to start raising their hands and stating their own cases. “One example each is fine.” He added before he selected the first student.
OOC: Hi guys! Welcome welcome!!! If you want to join us, just jump right in and answer the question. Any catch up should be placed under a spoiler tab
We’re into the first question now. Carwyn wants to know one example of transfiguration and what sub-branch it would be categorised within. Nice and easy to start with. Hehehe.
I’ll be posting tomorrow at some point between 1-4pm (roughly 22-25 hours from this post) so have fun!! Any questions, just put my name in the title, or send me a message.
not throwing away my shot | Slytherpuff | roll for initiative | woof you ❤
Alexandre was there, of course of COURSE. He wasn't one to skip lessons, especially not Uncle Carwyn's lessons. He had put his things in a cubby and chosen a workstation to stand in front of at the big table and all that jazz before the start of class. His gaze had flickered momentarily to the ominous color of the sky. That clearly was not proper. Should he be worried? He tried not to be and instead tried to focus on something positive about it. Like.. the red color reminded him of Willow's hair and he loved Willow! Yes, see? Not so bad.
But, OH, class was starting and he was ready to pay attention. An example of transfiguration? Alexandre could think of a lot of things really. But he had just been thinking about hair so his thoughts kept going that way. He raised his hand. "You could turn your hair a different color. Or length or style or something." There were a lot of ways you could change your hair with a spell. A part of him thought maybe that could be charms, but it was changing, so that seemed like transfiguration to him. So hopefully that was right. As for what sub-branch... what were those again? Uh. Alexandre paused before finishing his answer. "That would be... transformation, I think." Was that right? Did he get it?
