Default Library

A maze of thousands upon thousands of books, the library is heaven to any book-lover. Upon entering the high-ceilinged room, the smell of books, both ancient and new, hits you. There are many tall, narrow shelves neatly lined up, each divided into different sections -- charms, potions, Muggles, fiction, and so on. If you find a book you're interested in, simply make use of the sliding ladder or summon the book with Accio to retrieve it.

But the library just isn't a labyrinth of books. In the heart of the library and on the outskirts of it are tables and seating areas designated for quiet research and reading, some with accompanying fireplaces or large stained glass windows. Tucked away in the very back of the library is the Restricted Section, which requires a key that the librarian keeps on his person at all times and permission to enter because of the more mature titles and content that are tightly locked and chained within. At the entrance stands the front desk where the school librarian can usually be found, who will happily recommend a book, check out a book for you, and help you with any of your library needs.

OOC: Please do not play for the Librarian: Stormdancer.

The weatherman's book was going to hit shelves this fall, was it? "That's a bit optimistic," Bernie muttered to herself, eying said weatherman, and then the Headman, from beneath her fringe. She huffed, blowing the hair out of her eyes, and fidgeted with her school tie as a group of other kids and Professor Snaps joined them.

Well, she was already in the middle of the action, near the man who had all the answers, or at least, the best chance of predicting the answers. Wasn't that what weathermen did? Bernie couldn't resist sneaking a peek at the parchment Claudette was holding out, though. It was just... right there, under her nose!

"Oh yes!" she declared LOUDLY. "The spell was about shrimp tempura. Remember?" She nudged the Weatherman. Oh, and where was Bellpants? Bernie looked around for her too. "Remember that time we took a pic in the Chamber of Secrets, or wherever? We took selfies with Newt and.... Oh! Professor Snaps! You were there!"

Oops, had she said her nickname for the bubbly professor aloud? No matter, no one would notice or remember this. Prolly.

"Anyway." Bernie nodded to the parchment scrap from Claudette. "Looks like that's the same spell the Weatherman did. It's actually NOT shrimp tempura, haaaaaaaaa." Ha, who had said anything about shrimp? Not her. Nope. She was definitely not emotionally exhausted and tired and hungry from this library search. Not. At. All!

Please, someone confirm her faulty memory.

Isla could do nothing, literally nothing, but listen along silently as Sir Nick singlehandedly killed every idea and theory she had. "An Arithmancy textbook?" she asked. Isla wanted to correct Sir Nick and tell him that had she known it was a Aritmancy textbook he'd mentioned, she'd have lost interest then and there. Other students, past and present, could worry about keeping up with their own materials.

Nevermind what Sunny Winter was saying, too. She tried her hardest not to look at Headmaster Travis in disbelief when he asked why she had them looking for an Arithmancy textbook. She'd just made a suggestion...or shared a thought out loud, if you will. It had been Headmaster Travis who'd headed straight to the library to search. She'd tell him all of the above, BUT there was one thing this whole ordeal hadn't taken from him, and that was his ability to assign detention. Thanks, but no thanks.

Besides, it seemed like something had been found in the Divination tower that might actually help them. The adults seemed deep in conversation about what to do next...something about the eye of the storm. You know what Isla was going to do now? She was just going to stand in silence and listen.

Oh okay, Carsyn's aloud thoughts were echoed by the Headmaster when he confirmed that the arithmancy textbook wouldn't be useful. Which left them where??

Suddenly Professor Kidge was there with Claudette and they were talking about some parchment in the wall and the eye of the storm?? She wasn't a meteorologist and barely scraped by an acceptable with astronomy but why was the eye of the storm a familiar term???

Chewing her lower lip in concentration she stared at Bernedette. Shrimp tempura? What?? Were they having sushi for dinner?

"Wouldn't you be able to use the telescopes in the astronomy tower for that?" Just a suggestion. But what good would it be to cast a spell when their wands had been useless pieces of sticks for months? She even had her wand stashed in her trunk because there wasn't much a point to carrying it around.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Madam Professor had asked the right question: had the other group found anything useful? It was something Claudine had been wondering for a while now. She hoped they did because in her opinion, they were one step closer to being back to normal. Though… could they really trust Sunshine over there? These were her thoughts as her gaze drifted around the group. Said gaze found Heathen already looking at her. Though she didn’t think twice about this, she gave him a worried look. Suppose they did not figure out how to get out of this situation in time?

She had blotted out the useless chatter of Random Girl and Bentchant {hey, some instinct within kept nagging that she liked neither of them} but Casteel’s words caught her attention. Hadn’t Claudine thought the exact thing sometime earlier? Was that why the suggestion of the Astronomy tower was so familiar? Whatever. “What she said,’’ Claudine seconded and nodded to the Gryffindor.

Carwyn drew in a deep breath as he tried to get his brain to work and focus and focus and urgh, he just needed to concentrate. He knew things, he was an old man who had learnt a lot! Yet right now, he needed short-term memories and they were failing him faster than a chocolate teapot! Dashit. Frowning to himself and muttering under his breath he sighed.

"I don't think we could fit everyone in the astronomoy tower, so hopefully we can catch the eye of the storm, outside." Anywhere outside would give them enough space to maneover all of the students and the Professors... but... how would they know where the eye was going to be and when? When would that be? Hopefully not in the middle of the night - though he would rather extend curfew for one night than stay in this fading state. At least he was still positive they were getting home! He had a husband to see!

He looked at the Headmaster. "I suggest.. making sure everyone has their wands to hand so when you call they are ready to meet us as quickly as possible...." He glanced at the faded, rough and cobweb-covered thing in the girls hand. "It sounds like it will take us all." Though, he wasn't sure how they could do magic with no magic, but he had seen weirder things over his lifetime.

"Huh." This was unexpected. He mirrored Grandson in taking a peek at the note. "Eye of the storm.. Tempore tempestatis...." He mumbled to himself as he read over it a few times. "Whatever we did last time was outlined in my book! We should compare versions to make sure we don't find ourselves in another sticky situation. And maybe that can jog our memories" He was already starting to feel the déjà vu or maybe that was just a migraine. "Mr. Headmaster! The book, please if you would be so kind!" He held out his hand to receive it.

Right, so regrouping. Malachi watched the group that had gone with Cassie to the towers as they came into view. He was praying against everything that they had found the answers they needed because.........yeah.

He took the piece of parchment from Blair. A spell? Eye of the storm? Why did this feel like something he should know? Something he might have discussed some time before? No matter how hard he thought, nothing was coming back to him. The mention of tempura didn’t help much either. Why were they talking about food at a time like this???

Trent shook his head at the librarian’s suggestion of taking this little party outside. “No good. The school has fallen at least twice now.” That he knew of. “We’ll have to get high to have any hope of reaching the eye of this thing. The astronomy tower might not be such a bad idea.” It held the students for lessons, it should be able to accommodate this group. There was no time to launch a full scale gathering. Who knew how many more times he would disappear before he stayed gone?

Malachi looked to Stormy Raincloud. “I’ll keep it, thanks.” And to show he meant it, the man pried the book open.

Eh?

Wait a second. This is the same spell.” With a fair bit of reluctance, Trent finally handed the man the book. “Is this what you cast down in the dungeons?” If so, he’d pass on having them do it again.

Gabi had abandoned her search relatively quickly, as it became obvious that Alistar's book was actually NOT that important. Or at least, that was what she gathered from the bits and pieces of Sunny and Trent's conversation, as well as the chiming in from the other students who were there. All of this back and forth was giving her a migraine. Or was that a side effect of disappearing into nothingness?

She paused, going over what had happened again, trying to piece together what was happening. Cassie came running in, saying she had a parchment from an older Divination professor? Sooooo was that who they had contacted at the seance she'd accidentally missed? She wandered over to Trent, stepping on her tip toes to read the book over his shoulder. She could sort of remember the last time they'd tried casting a spell in the...what were they calling it? Eye of the storm? One more bad spell and there was no coming back from this...they all knew that, right?

Heath hated seeing Claudine look so worried! In that moment, all his fears of what might happen to him vanished, and a determined fire burned in his eyes. He was going to do whatever he had to do to get Claudine and everyone else back to their own time, even if he disappeared in the process. “We’ll figure this out,” he whispered, giving her a reassuring smile. And by that, he meant he would use all the time he had left to riddle this out.

He hoped the answers would become apparent soon, but he became even more confused when Beru started talking about selfies and shrimp tempura and - Wait, she and Professor Kenobi were there when Mr. Strange Weatherman cast the spell before? What a relief! At least they could be trusted to tell the truth if the strange man didn’t! So this happened in the Chamber of Secrets? How did they get in?! He thought he vaguely remembered hearing that only a… person who could talk to snakes (what was the name for that again?) could open the chamber. Who was it? Was it the strange weatherman?

Heath’s eyes darted from Beru to Professor Kenobi, but before he could ask them any of the million questions running through his mind, the Gryffindor prefect was suggesting they go to the astronomy tower to look for the eye of the storm. Didn’t someone else say that earlier? He was almost sure he’d heard that before! Then Professor Erso said they should search outside. Heath blinked, unsure what to make of that. If this was a normal storm, those would be good ideas, but nothing about this was normal! Normal storms didn’t transport people 200 years into the past! What if they were wrong? Then they would’ve wasted precious time for nothing!

Although Heath wasn’t entirely convinced they’d find the eye of the storm outside, he wasn’t going to waste time arguing if that’s what everyone else wanted to do. He looked to Headmaster Thropp for instructions when the strange man said something about a book. Finally, someone said something that made sense! For one wild moment, he was confident they would find the answers they needed by comparing notes… until Thropp said it was the same spell. His heart sank. If they had the correct spell the last time, the location had to be wrong unless…

“Was that what happened the last time you tried the spell? The school falling?” Heath asked, the question directed at anyone who might know. His mind was going a million miles an hour. “Maybe you were in the right place all along…” he mumbled, thinking out loud. “Otherwise nothing would’ve happened. But that would mean something wrong with the spell…” But what? He struggled to recall the parchment he’d read… a spell, the eye of the storm, something about togetherness. Maybe that was the answer!

“Were you the only person casting the spell last time?” he asked Sunny. Realizing only too late how odd that question must sound out of context, he added, “The note… it said we need to work together, didn’t it?” He looked around, hoping whoever had the note could confirm. “Maybe that’s what went wrong before?” He knew it was a longshot, but it was the only idea he had!

Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...

Why would she had given them a spell that didn't work? Cassie couldn't stand the students to have any more bad news and if the Divination professor steered them wrong she wouldn't be happy about that. She'd be doing another seance just to have a word with her. No, something really didn't add up, "We were clear down at the bottom of the castle, maybe the Astronomy tower would put us closer to the eye and allow it to work. Is the eye the strongest part?" She should know this but she really couldn't remember. If it was, then maybe their magic would work like a vacuum or something.

She moved closer to the headmaster and tried to see the book. She bounced a few times to get a better look. What were they missing. Tempore tempestatis fixus, tempore tempestatis fixus.... "Are you sure you said this spell, tempore tempestatis fixus?" Saying it aloud made her feel like she was missing something so close to her, but yet so far away. What was it they were missing?

"Ugh" She felt that feeling she got every time she faded out of view. It was coming more often she felt and they didn't have time to sit and think, "Headmaster... what if we all needed to say it, what if him only saying it wasn't strong enough even if it was a hot spot for magic?" Could that be what was missing?

Sunny wasn’t bothered by the skeptics in the room. There were always the few and he had met his fair share. Where there was a weather reporter, there were always skeptics close by. Despite this, he held his ground (and his smile) and when the Headmaster finally surrendered the book, Sunny wasted no time in flipping through it.

"Tempestatis, you say?" Now THAT was interesting. Sunny looked up at the blonde divination professor and he had his epiphany face on. "The one in the book is slightly different, see, here it says tempestatibus," he pointed to the page as he held it out for the Headmaster to read. ”I knew this edition was old, but I didn’t think a spell would change entirely.” Well, they knew now so it wasn’t really a problem was it?

With this new realization, he smiled brightly at the student who raised a very interesting question. "The magic is farther gone now. Even at the eye, our only hope might be to work together." Just so he wouldn’t lose the thought, he quickly pulled out a quill from behind his ear and scribbled the new spell onto the page of his book.

Valencia was lost in thoughts of the grammatical implications of different spells. Latin was so interesting. The same root word causing different effects. It was fascinating.

"Only hope and might isn't a reassuring combination." she said slowly. She glanced back at the charm books, still pondering. "Is there a way to amplify the spell I wonder? If more people isn't enough." Or maybe a bigger storm had the same effect?

follow me; everything is all right.

While you stand around discussing the differences in incantations, the castle begins to rumble again. It doesn't immediately fall into a rapid descent but the warning signs are all there. This little search party might have a better time putting a quick plan into action. Who knew how much further the castle had to sink.

Bernie's curious blue eyes flicked between the Headmaster and the Weathermaster, Professor Snaps and Healer... wait, when had the Healer professor gotten here?! No matter. They'd figured out something about the book and the spell! She'd KNOWN the Weatherman had the book all along!! "I KNEW it!" Bernie murmured to herself.

Heater had it right. They'd have to work together, and SOON if that rumbling sound was any indication. Bernie whipped out her wand from her boot, ready to jump into action. "Alright, let's do this thing." She did her best to sound like a brave Gryffindor who did NOT give up.

Focus, Gabi. F O C U S. It was becoming more and more difficult, especially when she felt that rumbling under her feet. She grabbed onto a nearby chair to steady herself and looked at Cassie. She said that maybe the spell hadn't worked because not enough people had joined in. Using the remaining brain power she had left, Gabi nodded in agreement. That made a lot of sense, even coming from Cassie.

"Well then - let's get more people," she chimed in. Seemed simple enough to her! That rumbling was ominious and clearly a warning that they didn't have time to waste. It was worth a shot at this point, yeah?

Right, the rumbling and the falling. How had he forgotten that??? Right now, it seemed like something really important and genuinely like something one wouldn't FORGET .... yet here he was. So. Ahem.

Frowning, worried for his students safety and where DOWN led too, Carwyn looked back around the Professors and students. "Then... we go up to the Astronomy Tower, as a group and the sooner the better?" Maybe now??? The Welshman loved the library but he would like to be here to see the Library tomorrow. He had utter faith in his colleagues even if he couldn't remember their names correctly a lot of the time and in his students - they would get through this.

He steadied himself as the Castle shook and trembled - but it didn't fall. Yet. Carwyn's stomach fell though as he tried not to think about how far it would fall next time. "I'll lead the way?" He said, moving backwards through the library stacks that he knew so well even if his memory was failing him. The Astronomy Tower? Yes?

Though... would they need their wands if magic wasn't working? He hoped not, since he knew a lot of students had taken to leaving them behind in their dormitories since they weren't useful right now.

Claudine stood there, listening to all the suggestions being thrown around. She really hoped that the adults would make quick but thoughtful decisions, and soon too. She was actually having a sort of emotional crisis right now with feeling half positive that they would resolve the situation while the other half of her was being a pessimist. Heathen’s soft words of encouragement helped her a bit and she nodded at him.

The sudden rumbling of the castle makes her forget all other thoughts plaguing her. She knew what this meant, having memory of the falling from at least two occasions before. “Miss Random over there is right,’’ Claudine said, jutting her chin slightly in {Bernadette’s} direction. Since Professor Egret was getting things going again, she would follow him. But um… where were they headed to again?

Oh no, not again. Malachi held onto the nearest shelf, bracing himself for what was becoming the familiar feeling of his stomach falling right out from under him but in the next second he realized...they weren’t falling.

Yet.

The students and his staff alike were bouncing questions back and forth but the only thing Malachi could think was they were very close to being doomed. “Come on, we’ll figure it out as we go. I don’t think we can afford to stand around anymore.” The Headmaster turned and headed for the exit....admittedly at a bit of a run.

He didn’t WANT them to fall further. Who knew how far they’d already fallen. Astronomy tower, now! If you don’t have your wand, go get it. If we see anyone on the way, we can take them along.” But as it stood, they didn’t have the luxury of Gabi’s suggestion to go get more people. Without magic, there was no way to broadcast an announcement and they couldn’t very well take the time to scour the castle. That was time they probably didn’t have.

Pick up the pace, let’s go!” He called, running out the exit and into the corridor. This was their last hope.

Whoa! Not again!

Sunny leaned over to grab the nearest bookshelf to brace himself for oncoming impact, but fortunately it was just a warning. Things were starting to buckle down!

With all that in mind, didn't need to tell him twice. This weather man was happy to forge forth towards the tower of astronomy. It was about time for a redemption arc! He managed to jot down a few more notes before following along with the rest of the crowd. If this worked (and hopefully it would), he'd be making millions by the time they found their way back to the proper time period. He needed this just as much as the rest of the school did.

Whoaaaa, Claudette said she was right?! There really was a first time for everything! Bernie blinked though... had she said her name was random girl....? She really had some memory problems, huh?

Bernadette shook herself off and skipped after the professors and the weatherman. To the Astronomy tower or whatnot!

Oooooh Merlin. Trent was running. This was serious!

Gabi nodded and immediately followed him out of the library, limping a little thanks to her earlier injury on the moving staircase, and beckoned for the students to follow along. They were going to need every person they passed if this was going to work, which meant EVERYONE should come along! In a matter of seconds, the blonde professor was gone, trailing behind Trent, headed towards the astronomy tower.

They weren't wasting any time at all it seemed. Except, as Iris and the headmaster said, because it was as if they could read her mind... she had no wand in hand. She sighed and looked over at him. "I'll meet you there. I got to stop off at the Gryffindor dorms to get my wand." She announced, just in case anyone else needed to as well.

"I'll grab anyone in the common room as well."

So it was said different? This was very interesting but honestly they didn't have too much time to figure it out. They needed to get going and get this all back to normal. She was ready to see her husband and she was ready for her kids to not be ghost anymore. Plus she knew the other students were getting more and more worried so the fastest way to fix this was the best way.

She nodded as everyone spoke and turned on her heel and headed away with the rest of the group . Crystal please be right, please get us out of this. She would certainly be finding a way to contact her after this was all over to thank her if it worked.

Heath returned Claudine's nod with a slight smile, though he was too lost in thought to say anything. He was determined to keep asking questions, to keep guessing based on the little information he had to go on until something stuck or he completely faded from existence… whichever came first, hopefully the former. Wait, so that wasn’t the same spell that the weatherman used? He was so confused now, and he became even more confused when the weatherman smiled at him. He was actually right? Wow, he did not see that coming! He was just grasping at straws when he mentioned working together.

He blinked, slightly caught off guard by Veronica’s words. He had to admit she had a point, but hope was all they had right now. That vaguely reminded him of a quote, Hope is like the sun. If- if… Oh dear Merlin, he knew he must be nearing the end if he could no longer recall Star Wars quotes! Veronica’s suggestion of amplifying the spell wasn’t a bad idea, though how were they going to do so without magic? More importantly, did they have time to figure it out?

Apparently not, if the sudden rumbling was any indication. Heath grabbed onto the nearest shelf to steady himself, his eyes darting frantically around the library. Was everyone alright? Before he could ask, Professor Erso mentioned the astronomy tower. Then Headmaster Thropp was running for the door, which Heath took as his cue to follow.

Naya thought long and hard about where she should take her last photo of Flat Newt. She thought about taking him to the Creature Sanctuary, but at the last minute, she decided against it. She had the bright idea of taking him to library. Naya imagined that Newt would have spent a great deal of time there as a student so..........why not?

With her trusty camera and backpack in tow, Naya entered the library and quietly looked around for a good place to photograph Newt. After ruling out several possibilities, she had an idea. Searching high and low, she finally found what she was looking for. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. First Naya put her things down. Then she placed Newt on the shelf and propped him up next to his book. After playing with the angles for a second, she was satisfied with the placement. She got her camera, popped up the flash and took several pictures of Newt proudly standing by his most famous work. And then.......it was time for notes. Naya got her parchment and got to work on her outline.

SPOILER!!: Naya’s notes
-Newt spent a lot of time in the library as a student.
-He studied there and did research on the many creatures that he loved so much.
-It brought back memories, visiting the familiar location.
-When he saw a copy of his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, he felt proud.
-Students were now studying his book, as he had studied others many years ago.
-It felt good to know that he was inspiring future Magizoologists who would care for his beloved creatures for years to come.

Naya had finished her notes, so she then looked over the pictures she had taken. She had several good options to choose from for her final shot and that was good. Now she had to put everything together and get to work on her presentation. That was going to be the hard part. With a sigh, she packed up her belongings and headed out of the library. Maybe she would go a outside to work on her presentation. Hopefully she would get some inspiration there.
