She likes long term assignments, it helps her creative side.... or just the idea that she has something to do when she's not doing anything. She's already getting nightmares from the upcoming NEWTs so this will be a great diversion other than yoga. The seventh year waited for her turn and then went to get her own cardboard cutout and wrote the specifics at the back: Jillian Kim Seventh Year Slytherin She's definitely borrowing a camera because she doesn't have one. |
Heath had no idea where this project was going, but he certainly wasn't expecting a reference to Flat Stanley. He vaguely remembered hearing that name sometime in muggle school, but he was almost positive his class never did the project. That was something he definitely would've remembered doing! He listened carefully to the assignment instructions. Take pictures with the cardboard Newt cutout around the school and make up stories to go with them… That part he got. What he didn't get was why did they have to call it Flat Newt? A "flat newt" sounded like something used in potion-making! No way was he calling it that! Flat Scamander, maybe? Flat Magizoologist? Heath joined the line forming and eventually made his way to the front to claim his flat… cutout. He eyed the cameras, debating whether or not to borrow one. He didn't have one of his own, but his older brother did… and Fiy's camera was a lot more hi-tech than these. Maybe he could write and ask to borrow it for the project. For the time being, he took one of the cameras, just in case Fiy said no or it took too long to send his camera. He could always return it later if he didn't need it! Materials in hand, Heath returned to his seat and wrote his information on the back of his Flat… guy: Heathcliff Jones 3rd year Ravenclaw |
Hmm. Well, this project certainly sounded interesting. They were going to be taking pictures of Flat Newt Scamander and then essentially keeping a journal of his experiences? K wondered if this would be a good excuse to be able to get permission from one of the Professors to try to get into the Forbidden Forest. There were SO many creatures in the forbidden forest, Newt definitely would have been THERE right?! She stood up and filed through with the rest of her classmates, grabbing a flat newt and a camera at her turn, before returning to her desk and pulling out her quill to write her name. Kimberly Amstern 4th Year Hufflepuff |
Jina laughed when the title of the assignment appeared on the blackboard. Flat Newt! Almost like taking care of a fake baby again, but one that is not needy at all. She did a life-sized Flat Jina project when she was in elementary school, so she already knew she would totally ace this assignment (unlike the previous term). She briefly wondered how relevant this was to studying the subject … oh! Explaining the rationale behind their own Flat Newt’s story would help them to better understand the historical figure’s thoughts and behaviour. This was going to be interesting. She went to the front of the classroom and took a cardboard cutout and camera. Returning to her seat, she wrote her name on the back of her Flat Newt. |
SPOILER!!: Mention of Kimmie before class starts Flat Who? Avalon had never heard of this Stanley doll thing. It seemed a little boring, to just carry around some inanimate piece of paper. But the project involved photographs and writing - two things that she enjoyed - so maybe it wouldn't be too bad. At least it didn't involve anything weird. The Ravenlaw made her way to the front of the room, where she picked up her own cutout. She already had her own camera, so she didn't need one from the school. After she got back to her desk, she labeled Flat Newt with her name. Now to brainstorm some stories she could come up with for pictures around the castle. |

"As you all finish up gathering your materials, I have just one more thing before you all head off for the day. While I'm sure you're all going to be respectful of one another, I have a few ground rules I'm going to make you sign off on - just to keep everyone honest," she explained. She waved her wand, and a number of waivers appeared on each of the desks. "The rules are relatively simple, but I'll go over them anyways. ONE - no invading anyone's privacy. This means no pictures of Newt in the loo or in the dorm rooms where people are sleeping. Additionally, no taking pictures of Newt during class or group meetings. Respect the time of the other students and professors," she began. "TWO - no copying or cheating. Work on this project on your own. No taking pictures for other students...you all know how seriously I take plagiarism. So don't even try it." "Once you have taken your pictures, you will have to write three accompanying stories about Newt's adventure in that picture to go along with them. Later in the term, there will be assigned times for students to present their stories," she explained. "Please watch the noticeboard as I will post the days and times we will be doing presentations later in the term," she added, although they all surely knew by now where to get information for their classes. "Once you have signed the waiver, you may bring it up to me and you are dismissed. I'll linger around here in case you have any questions I may need to answer," she said with a smile before taking a seat behind her desk, pulling out a stack of homework, and beginning to grade as the students wrapped up and signed Quote:
THE OFFICIAL RULES HAVE BEEN POSTED! If you have any questions, hit up Gabi IC or send me a VM/PM so I can help you out. Part Two will open later in the term and I will go over the instructions for that part of the project at that time. For now, focus on starting your posts and have fun with Newt! |
Um. Missa had had two coffees before this class. She refused to fall asleep in it like she had in the previous class. So, this was disappointing. They just had to take the doll, write their name and leave? Sighing, and hoping to catch up on other studies - she got up and did so, writing her name at the back of her doll - while wondering what exactly were they learning about history with this lesson. Or this long term project. Nonetheless, she signed the wavier as instructed, before holding it out for the professor to take. Quote:

Naturally Bernie forgot to grab the camera her first time in line, so she had to get BACK in line, after everyone else, and pick up a wizard camera to use with her Flat Scammy. NOW that that was done, she narrowed her eyes at this anti-fun waver, and read it through CAREFULLY before picking up her quill. She supposed the rules made sense and Professor Recard was generally fair, so. Bernie was in. Quote:

Oh, Professor Recard. It wasn't her OWN actions Aboli was worried about, but she did not feel like getting into it right now. It was good to know that she could get a replacement if he, er, didn't survive. She was sure going to do her best to keep him in one, piece, though! The writing part was annoying. Aboli didn't feel like coming up with a story. She wasn't a storyteller! And she wondered what this had to do with his HISTORICAL aspect...but maybe her story could tie in to the history. Whatever. Do it for the grade, she thought as she went to get the waiver and sign it. A waiver seemed a bit harsh in her opinion, but whatever. She hadn't been here in the past to know what all went down with things...and yeah, people's privacy was involved. Recard was probably just covering her bases. Quote:

Islay stood quietly and walked forward picking up her cutout Newt. Flat Newt was going to go everywhere with her – heck, she’d even shrink him down and put him in unthinkable places like in a bottle. What, she wasn’t going to be cruel or anything but it was Newt Scamander, he had been known for climbing into an impossibly small suitcase and working from within it. |
A new heading called ‘Rules’ was quickly written by Claudine onto the page in her book. She listened and jotted them down as accurately as possible for future reference. They were pretty straightforward ones so she was quite sure that there would be no issues on her part in keeping them. The latter part of the assignment, the part where they were required to do a write up, wasn’t something she was looking forward to, truthfully. See, Claudine preferred artwork as to being an ‘author’. The waiver was read and signed neatly before she handed it to Recard. Quote:

So there were rules. Naya supposed that was a good thing with this lot. The rules were clearly explained and had to be signed off on. She guessed that no one would be able to say they didn’t know better when something crazy happened. It probably would anyway, but at least the professor tried. Quote:

”Professor, what if we wanted to take a picture of our Newt with someone else’s Newt?” you know, to take their Newt’s on an adventure together. The three stories didn’t actually sound too bad. Sure, he wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about the project but it could have been worse. He could get it done in a day if he really wanted to and then he was free to focus on his NEWT revision. Standing up, he headed over to the Professor and grabbed two waivers, one for himself and the other for Carsyn because, you know, they were on the same table and he was just being nice. ”I got one for you” a polite smile on his face as got back to his table and, pulling out a quill, he signed the waiver and headed back down to the front of the class to hand it in and then proceeded to head back to the table to collect his bag and remaining things before leaving. Also, Aboli Song brought up a good question and it had Carsyn now thinking of the what ifs. Was she accident prone or something? But no matter though because it seemed they were eligible to get a second Newt if something should happen to him or repair him. She could only imagine some of her classmates bringing Newt back covered in singe marks and all wrinkled up too. Wait, so did that mean that their Flat Newt wasn't to sleep in the dorm with them? Or if they did it, it had to picture of Newt in their own bed? Newt couldn't be in others beds.... Also what sort of presentations? Did they have to give an example of one of Newt's best adventures? She guessed more would come on a later date about this presentation, but for now she took one of the waivers to sign, reading it over beforehand. The crime? Were people going to commit felonies with a paper doll??? That seemed ridiculous. Noah listened to the Professor's instructions, jotting down a few notes here and there in his notebook. Right... nothing indecent like the dormitory or the bathrooms... Had to preserve Flat Stanley Newt's honor for sure. Yes.. Yes... Picking up his quill, he reached for the wavier to fill it out. After signing it, he walked up to Professor Recard and handed it to her. Mr. Newt would be in safe and responsible hands with Nam. Yes, ma'am. Quote:

Isla was already gathering up her materials, when Recard mentioned there was one more thing. Of course there was, because why would she think they'd get out of class early for once? Ahhh. The rules. BOO. There were a million and one possibilities for this project and now there were just...a million. Heh. Not that she'd try to take pics in the loo anyway. Eww. Also, they had to present their pictures? Yikes. Isla wasn't one to enjoy public speaking, at least not when it came to talking about her assignments. The second year read through the waiver and filled it out. Once she was done with it, she packed her stuff up, brought the waiver to Recard, then left. "Goodbye, Professor!" she said. "Thanks for the super short class! You're awesome!" "I, Isla Olivia Bellchant, solemnly swear to follow the rules of the Flat Newt Scamander assignment, and understand that by breaking these rules, I will face the consequences of my actions, which will be whatever Professor Recard determines fits the crime." Normally, Avalon would have been taking detailed notes, but these rules seemed pretty easy. She would never take any pictures of her cutout in weird places, nor would she ever think of cheating. The waiver seemed a little extreme, but Avalon supposed that a professor could never be too sure that their students would follow the rules when it came to some people at Hogwarts. She signed the slip of paper and returned it to Professor Recard. Quote:

The rules are pretty straight-forward and reasonable. It was the same with that fake baby doll that Professor Schmoe gave them last year. So this standee is going to be treated the same way EXCEPT for the feeding and washing it part. Jillian doesn't have any questions for now. The seventh year filled up the waiver as instructed. Quote:

The rules were simple and in her opinion, very sensible. She nodded as she listened, but was surprised when the professor said that they will be doing presentations later on. Um, couldn't they just submit the pictures and stories and not present them to the whole class? Jina was okay with answering questions in class (after rehearsing the exact words in her head at least once), but disliked having to stand up and speak for a long time while other students watched her. She hoped they could just read out what they wrote. Presenting is always easier when there is a script. Taking this assignment more seriously than she previously did, she signed the waiver and handed it to the professor. Quote:

"Newt can hang out with other Newt cutouts, as long as you BOTH take an individual picture and you BOTH write out a story in your own words," she explained. She knew their writing styles well enough by now to know if that rule wasn't being followed! OOC: You can RP together with another person, as long as each person follows the criteria for the individual posts and submits their own link to the dropbox! |

With a friendly goodbye to his fellow prefect, Ewan headed for the door with his Newt safely tucked under his arm and the camera in his backpack. |
She already had a camera so Chloe didn't need to take one of those. Listening to the Professor she started to gather her things. So this didn't seem like a hard project and she hoped it could be fun. Maybe one of her friends would want to do some weird photo-shoots with the twin Scamanders. Getting up she gathered her things and walked to the front of the room with her flat NEWT. Waiting her turn she took the paper and signed it. Quote:

There already were a lot of rules to this thing and Morgan was starting to zone out. You couldn't take pictures here, you couldn't take pictures there... ugh, boring. But! Class was over already? Sweet! The Gryffindor hurried to sign the waiver, then slipped it onto the professor's desk before gathering his things to head out. "See ya, Professor!" Quote:

"You're welcome...see you all later," Gabi said with a smile, nodding and addressing each student as they left. EEE! This was so exciting! Gabi had been dreaming of this project for a while so she was extremely excited to see what everyone came up with. As she had said, she was going to stay in the room for a bit longer to allow everyone a chance to grab their things, and ask any questions they needed answered. Whistling softly, she returned to her grading. OOC: As I said in the rules thread, this thread will remain open until the project ends so you can get "started" and RP the first bit of the assignment if you haven't yet! You can also utilize this thread to ask IC questions if necessary. Trust me, I'm watching you all in case you need me! :P |
asdfjkl! I though I did this already So were they done now? Heath was ready to go back to bed! He blinked, looking toward the front as Professor Recard spoke again. Apparently not… He listened carefully to the explanation of the rules. Uhh… should he be taking notes on this? It seemed like a lot to remember, and his memory was a little fuzzy today. He was just going to chalk that up to sleepiness. Just to be safe, he jotted down the rules on a blank sheet in his notebook. No sooner had he finished doing that that the waiver appeared on his desk. Wow, Recard was really going all out with this, wasn’t she? Heath had to respect that. Picking up his quill again, he gave the waiver a quick read over before signing it in his flowy, dramatic handwriting. Quote:
