It was an absolutely lovely September morning - so lovely in fact that Gabi had opened the windows, which she didn't generally do. She had sensitive eyes and the sunlight bothered her baby blues, you know? But today was an exception. It was just far too pleasant outside to ignore it. Plus, the sun was still shining on the other side of the classroom, so there was the PERFECT amount of light shining in. It was truly magnificent. Sad to think in just a month or two they'd all be shivering in the cold, probably wet from a never ending rainstorm.
The classroom was decorated plainly today. No trinkets or lesson props to be found. Just Gabriela, sitting on her desk in the front, legs dangling over the side as she waited for the children to enter and take their seats. "Come on in and take a seat! I hope you all had a good summer," she greeted them all warmly as the first students began to trickle in.
Well, that wasn't ENTIRELY true. There WAS something unusual about the classroom - most students just wouldn't see it until they took their seats. The creature that was currently scurrying around the floor was an enchanted toy, so no need to panic if fluffy critters aren't your thing. You MIGHT panic just a bit though, if you were wearing something particularly dazzling, like earrings, a bracelet, or shiny buckles on your shoes. In which case you might find something crawling up your leg, trying to snatch it and quench it's thirst for all things shiny and sparkly...
OOC: Hello hello hello! Welcome to our first History of Magic lesson for the term! This lesson takes place the second week of school so you've had at least one HoM class prior to this, so please RP your characters appropriately.
As you can see, Gabi isn't alone in the classroom today! I feel it's fairly obvious which creature Gabi has enchanted a toy of to run around and cause some mayhem, so feel free to have your characters glance something running around out of the corner of their eye. Please do NOT RP for it however - I'll be taking care of that
Class will commence in roughly 24 hours CLASS HAS NOW STARTED!. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the HoM Classroom Rules before posting! Thank you!

The class was moving on and the professor explained the activity they would be doing. Naya was happy. She was always down for creative activities, especially when it involved artsy crafty things. She immediately started thinking of what she wanted to do with her zoo. Naya went over to the stack of magazines, grabbed a few and returned to her seat. She flipped through the pages looking for pictures of animals that meant something to her. She also had to figure a way to tie everything to Newt Scamander.
Naya had some animals in mind that she hoped to find. She wanted to include her favorite magical and mundane animals. If she couldn’t find those, well she would just figure that out as she went along. Page by page she went through the magazines and finally found the pictures she was looking for. Naya took a pair of scissors and began to carefully cut out the pictures. Once she had the last one, she began to arrange the pictures on her parchment. When they were placed where she wanted them, Naya stuck them on and began to label the pictures.

The goal of the Magical Mystery Zoo is to expose wizarding children to a wide variety of creatures that they would not normally have the opportunity to experience up close. The zoo will be more than a place to observe animals. It will allow visitors to learn more about the animals such as their care, habitat, life span etc. This zoo will take the mystery out of the creature and let visitors learn everything they could ever want to know. Field trips and classes will be available for school children to explore and develop their interest in creatures and the field of Magizoology. Hopefully, the zoo will inspire future Newt Scamanders to follow in his footsteps.
Naya looked over her work and decided that she had nothing else to add. Hopefully it would be good enough.

Isla had been so deep in thought with her parchment, color-changing quill, and magazines, that she hadn't exactly been paying attention to the time. It was only when the toy niffler dashed by that she looked up and noted the time. She had about half the time-limit remaining, so she decided to go with the idea she'd already hammered out and get busy making things.
She started by flipping through the magazines to choose the three magical pets she'd like to feature. Of course the zoo would have more than three magical creatures, but she'd just feature three for now. Plus, she didn't want to do anymore work than what was required, and three creatures got her full credit. She chose kneazles (because of her new pet kneazle), a phoenix (just because she thought a phoenix exhibit would draw some big crowds), and a niffler (because they'd make a cute petting zoo, and didn't all zoos have a petting area?
Once she found some images of each creature, she began using a charm she'd learned to get the pictures out the magazines. Then she set to work drawing out what she thought a map of her zoo would look like. She even used another charm to stick the pictures into place. Once all that was done, she started detailing everything in words on her parchment.
Quote:
Name: Isla Bellchant Zoo:Goldstein-Scamander Magical Animal Zoo (Click for Illustration) Animals Featured: The three I featured on my park map are kneazles, a phoenix, and nifflers; however, I showed room for nine exhibits altogether. Names for the animals: You mean animal names, or like pet names for them? There's like a hundred animals in this zoo. I'll just leave that to the imagination of the guests. How the zoo honors Scamander: The zoo shares his last name, along with the maiden name of his wife. There's also a memorial garden in the center of the zoo which displays beautiful flowers and a plaque bearing Scamander's name.
Other Details: The zoo makes a circular pathway starting at the entrance and ending at the exit. The creatures are displayed all around the circle, with the memorial garden in the center, as pictured. I've shown where the niffler petting zoo is, where the phoenix exhibit is, and where the kneazles are. There are nine places for animals all around the circle, though. I chose to feature kneazles, because I personally love them and have a pet kneazle of my own. I choose a niffler petting zoo, because all zoos seems to have petting areas, so this seemed to fit right on in! I chose a phoenix exhibit, because people seem to really be interested in them, and I think it'd draw some big crowds!
"Professor?" she asked, raising her hand. "What do you mean by 'names of the animals'? Just the type of creature they are, right?" Yes? No? Hopefully...

Eiji listened as the professor went on, pointedly not giving that younger Slytherin girl a glance and wondering for a moment if she was like him and the lack of acknowledgement the utter WORST thing a person could do to you. He supposed that he would find out based on her retaliation...and he actually found himself a little excited by it.
But anyway.
Class was moving along and Eiji found himself even more disinclined to move. He...did not want to do this assignment. Not in the least. He failed to see how cutting pictures out of a magazine was going to help him prepare for his coming NEWTs and he had never been particularly inclined towards arts and crafts to begin with. The woman's assurance to not take this too seriously was...well...there were a handful of visceral reactions to it.
So when it came time to begin, Eiji did not move and instead got his piece of crisp, clean, pristine parchment to write his name and the date on. He then toooooooooooook his time writing the title, In Homage of One Newt Scamander, but then set his quill down beside the inkwell and added nothing.
Because this was his answer.
He wouldn't build a zoo in honor of this wizard and he had always found it ironic that there was was one with the Scamander name to it...and this seventh year loved a good dose of irony now and then.
Actually. Wait. Allow him to write out his reasoning.
Quote:
I would build no zoo to pay homage to Newt Scamander and by doing so I am paying homage to his believe that creatures should be free and not be forced to live their lives in containment.
There. Done. Quill back to laying on his desk.
And he had even technically done the assignment too.

Avalon was getting a little sleepy as she listened to her classmates responses. So many people were bringing up the same things: Grindelwald, the Wizarding War, his work at the Ministry of Magic. But the young Ravenclaw perked up immediately when she learned that they would be creating their own zoos. Her mind immediately went to phoenixes, kneazles, hippogriffs, puffskeins, red pandas, polar bears, tigers, and dolphins. There were so many cool creatures, both magical and mundane. How in the world would she be able to pick just three of them?
Maybe the magazines would help her narrow it down. After she retrieved some supplies Avalon got to work, flipping through them for inspiration and jotting down a few ideas on her parchment. She thought two magical creatures and one mundane would be a good mix, since Newt was a wizard, after all. He would definitely want more than one magical beast in his zoo.
Avalon decided to go with a hippogriff for her first one. She thought they were absolutely fascinating, and she felt particularly drawn to them because she had a feather of one in her wand. Second, she decided to pick a niffler. Honestly, it wouldn't be her first choice for a zoo, but she knew that they were one of Newt's favorite creatures. And last but not least, she chose a giraffe. From what she'd heard, they were a staple at Muggle zoos, and she thought they were pretty cool.
After cutting out some images and pasting them on her parchment, she got to work decorating it and answering the questions. But wait! What would she name it? Scamander's Zoo was wayyy too boring. And she didn't know enough about his life to come up with some ultra creative and meaningful title. Honestly, though, Fantastic Beasts sounded like the perfect name for a zoo. It was already the title of his book, and maybe it wasn't very creative of her. But the name would mean something to Newt, and Avalon thought that it worked wonderfully.
SPOILER!!: Avalon's Assignment
Fantastic Beasts Zoo Featuring Tina the Niffler, Albus the Hippogriff, and Jacob the Giraffe
The zoo's name is an homage to Newt's most famous book and life's work with magical creatures. I chose to feature a Niffler, because it was one of Newt's favorite animals. I also named the zoo creatures after some of the most influential people in Newt's life. The zoo would feature a museum, right in the middle, dedicated to his life and his contributions to the wizarding world. Most importantly, the zoo would be a safe sanctuary for creatures from all over. Newt cared for all animals, so the zoo would treat the creatures with respect and try to emulate their natural habitats as much as possible. This zoo is a place where people of all ages can come to learn more about animal conservation, magical creatures, and how to care for them.
Now that he had picked out his animals and what he wanted at his zoo, he had cut out pictures of them from the magazines he needed to name them.
Ursula the Unicorn
Billy the Bowtruckle
Tony the Tiger (there was a cereal character named that form back in the day right?? Blake thought it had a nice ring to it).
And now what was he to name the zoo as a whole???
Ryan's Ramparts Zoo .... well it was something at least.

Jillian took a pair of scissors and started cutting through magazines for her zoo. She didn't really think this through- the name and all but she does have an image for it. She just needs for it to be cohesive that it will look nice on paper despite it being all over the place in her head. After cutting a few pieces of creatures for her zoo, she laid them on the side as she takes a parchment out. With the use of glue, she started putting the images one by one.
And with that, she started writing:
SPOILER!!: HoM activity
Name: Jillian Kim Year: Seventh Year
Eco Lane Reserve
Firedrake
Fire Crab
Frost Salamander
-Eco Lane Reserve is a place for creatures that needs extra love and care. To not only save wildlife but also to save their habitats through conservation, research, education and engaging experiences. Never to use animals and creatures alike for consumerism advantages. Eco Lane Reserve will be a place of sanctuary for all creatures. A place that was built and designed especially for them; food provided will depend on the creature's diet; staff that will take care of them and their homes.
Anyone willing to intern, help, donate and has the love for creatures are welcome.
Cole got up from his seat and fetched a couple of magazines and a scissor and some glue that he brought back to his desk. Sitting down he started to cut out the images of creatures that he wanted to include in his zoo. Taking a clean parchment he started to glue on the pictures and also write his explanation.
Vances Zoo is a sanctuary as much as a zoo since it in true Scamander spirit takes in all kind of creatures big or small, endangered or not that needs love and care. I chose to include the zouwou because it's really is like Newt said just a very big cat that people needs to see isn't scary. Same with the tarantula, most people shy away from spiders, some even hate them which is why they need a sanctuary to live in. I chose to include the unicorn because its a pretty creature that is a favourite of mine and the brown bear because it is almost an endangered species that needs to be watched so it doesn't go extinct.
Also the sanctuary and zoo provides research and education into the 4 above mentioned creatures and other upon request to anyone young or old that has a love like Scamander for all creatures.
Putting his quill down. Cole read over the text once more and made sure that the pictures we're glued on right before he considered himself done. Hopefully professor Recard would like his work.
Bernie's copying off of Eiji (and the Tiger King) again :3

Bernie was FRANTIC now, feeling like time was ticking down to get her zoo made and perfect without any bits of paste or excess paper hanging off the edge of her artwork. She was tempted to copy off someone, someone (probably a pureblood kid) whose Pops or Gran had KNOWN Newt Scamander, someone like....
She glanced over at Claudine, then made a sour face and turned away. NOT HER.
Someone like... ah, yes, Becky's brother. Annoying as he was, he was good at school and all that. She peeked over his shoulder, since she was behind him and all, and nearly knocked everything off her desk as she breathed down his neck to try to see his zoo.
All she could see was some squiggly writing. Like, ONE SENTENCE of writing. Would that be enough to impress Professor Recard? Probably not. Bernie huffed, her breath probably giving her away, and slid back down into her seat. THANKS A LOT FOR NOTHING, EIJI. She was going to stick to copying him in Potions and Potions only, thanks.
Bernie hmmph'd to herself and decided just to draw some areas where animals might roam, more like a sanctuary than a zoo, because zoos had cages and rules and all that junk. But not PRIVATE ZOOS and RESCUES! She started humming an old song to herself as she worked to hurry up and complete the project, clearly drawing inspiration from those around her. "Cuz I saw a tiiiiiiiiger.... now I understaaaaaaaaaand.... I saw a tigerrrrrrrr.... and tiger saw (wo)maaaaaaaaaan...."
SPOILER!!: The B.O.G.S. (Bernadette Ophelia Grantham-Scamander) Zoo
I named my private zoo (actually it's a big cat rescue and sanctuary) after myself and Newt Scamander, whose family donated a bunch of money to me to build the place.
Inside, we have RESCUED a bunch of old, retired nifflers who used to work for Gringotts. Their names are Blake, Phoebe, Cece, Cole, Becky, and Ilya.
We also have one (1) Zouwu named Isla (it's pronounced EYE-LA, ok). She's very ferocious at first and is always trying to hang out with my niffler named Blake. But if you get to know her, she can be nice. She's like not very good at stuff though, but it's okay, because she's only two years old.
There are a few bowtruckles in the sanctuary too. They can go wherever they like. Bowtruckles and nifflers were required to live in the sanctuary, because the Scamander family insisted that they were Newt's favourite creatures. The bowtruckles are named Samantha, Carsyn, Lucas, Mathys, Piersy, and Curtis. Piersy and Curtis are related but don't want anyone to know that. Curits is like always causing mischief in the sanctuary but he's actually harmless.
FINALLY, we have the world's largest collection of mundane tigers who put up with magical creatures. The tigers are the best. There are actually too many to name, but my personal favorite is a shrimpy tiger named Finneas. He blinks a lot. Oh and Trent, he's a big tiger. He's always grumpy, but he secretly loves apples and doesn't want anyone to know that either. How funny, these animals!
The zoo as a whole represents Newt Scamander because it's partially named after him and it has his favourite creatures in it. Also, the creatures are not in enclosures, because we don't believe in that sort of thing at the BOGS ZOO. We don't like cages, and we are rescuing these animals because we believe in all creatures being treated fairly, with love and kindness, just like our inspiration, Newt, did. And also there's no experimental breeding or cross-breeding going on in here because Newt made a law against that. Just wanted to state that for the record.
THE END.

Missa was now falling asleep and she felt horribly guilty about it. What if someone saw her? It would look SO BAD. And yet, her eyes were growing heavier and heavier - she honestly didn’t know how she passed the subject in her OWLs. This was just ridiculous.
Hearing bits and pieces of what the professor was saying was also confusing her. Were they still learning about creatures in this class? Where was the history? Actually, you know what, she was glad there was no history - or else she would be snoring and everyone would hear it.
As the final bit of the class approached, Missa somehow straightened herself to get through it. The Ravenclaw picked up her quill - only to stare at the parchment in front for quite sometime.

What were they supposed to do again?
She blinked and looked around, but understood nothing. Oh this was not good. Not good at all.

Tom was still trying to figure out what to call his zoo and what animals he would want in them, seriously like there were way too many endangered animals out there and surely that would be the best way to honour Newt by helping endangered animals.
“Professor what type of zoo does it have to be?“ Tom was still working on animals but he had a name at least now. NEWT'S ENDGAME ZOO! That would be an epic name for a zoo right, show everyone how serious he was about animals and how he helped every animal he could.
Morgan was still thinking about what animals to include in his zoo as he looked through the magazines. Obviously he had to have the very coolest of creatures and he could only pick three. Well, he could probably technically choose more than three, and if it was an actual zoo surely it would have more than three, but he wasn't looking to make more work for himself.
He liked cats a whole lot, but they were pets, and well kneazles were too, so he wasn't going to put one in his zoo. But wampuses were like super cool dangerous cats, so he cut one of those out of the magazine when he found it. What next?
Dragons were an obvious second choice. They breathed fire and were just all around awesome. He wasn't sure what type of dragon he cut out, but he didn't think that mattered as much. And one more...
Morgan continued to look through the magazine. Werewolves were super cool, but he wasn't sure if he was allowed to include them. They were people most of the time and probably wouldn't want to hang out in the zoo until they transformed. Next. Oh! What about an erumpent? They were pretty cool and sometimes caused explosions. Yeah! Morgan cut out one of those to add to his collection.
SPOILER!!: collage
AND! He'd thought of the coolest name for his zoo - Morgan McCarthy's Magical Menagerie! All M's. He must be some sort of a genius to think of something so catchy, he thought, rather proud of himself as he added that to the top of his collage. Was he done now? He squinted up at the board. Aw man, they had to write stuff too??

Now, to get on with the writing portion. Explaining herself and whatnot. She dipped her quill in some fresh ink and began to write.
Quote:
The Song Zoo: A Tribute to the Life and Times of Newt Scamander
Animals included:
Sharks: Pasta, Claudia, and Stu
A Pack of White Wolves: leader - Robbo, the rest are all named after random vegetables
Thunderbird: Simon
So, the three animals chosen for The Song Zoo were picked based off of his life and representative of the different aspects of Scamander. The sharks represent his misunderstood nature. He was kicked out of Hogwarts, which probably led to his being an outcast for quite a bit. People fear sharks because they see sharks as a threat - I think the same could be said for Newt Scamander. He was a threat to wizarding kind's way of life. He brought about change for our world in regard to our treatment of animals.
Next, I've chosen wolves to represent the part of his life where he began to form his "pack" and make allies. He met his future wife and eventually became so close with Albus Dumbledore that he had a hand in taking down Grindelwald. He and his "pack" drastically formed the course of wizarding history! They brought down the darkest wizard of all time!
Lastly, I picked a Thunderbird because Thunderbirds give off such a strong aura. Newt Scamander may have been a soft spoken guy, but he was far from weak. His entire life he spent fighting for the unspoken voices of magical creatures - well, most of them are unspoken. The Thunderbird shows off what a strong and powerful voice he had, and that his impression on the world continues on today.
And...done. She set her quill down.

Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll
Heath listened intently to the instructions for the next activity. They were designing their own zoo? That actually sounded pretty fun… as long as it didn’t involve much drawing. HIs older sister was the artist in the family, not him! His mood instantly brightened when he heard they would be cutting out animal pictures from magazines instead. Now that was something he could do! The question was, what animals should he include?
Heath thought back to Newt Scamander and the types of creatures that figured most prominently in his story. Bowtruckles, nifflers, erumpents, demiguises, occamys… there were way too many choices! He needed to narrow this down. Maybe looking through some magazines would help him make up his mind. He brought a few back to his seat and began flipping through pages until… He came to a muggle magazine with a cat on the cover. Ooh, that just gave him an idea. He’d do a zoo with different types of cats, like a cat sanctuary or something. That was allowed, right? Nobody said it wasn’t, so he was going for it.
Once Heath decided on a general concept for his zoo, finding animals to fill it was a lot easier. He sketched a rough design of his zoo on a piece of parchment, dividing it into three distinct sections: one for magical cats, one for mundane ones, and a petting zoo full of house cats and kneazles in the middle. There were a lot of options for the mundane side, but he eventually narrowed it down to a lion, tiger, and jaguar. Oh, my! Now for the magical side. He already had a kneazle in the petting zoo area, but he needed some big cats too… like a zouwu and a wampus, a very tightly enclosed wampus, so it couldn’t mind control any unsuspecting visitors!
Heath cut and glued the appropriate pictures, pausing for a moment to check his work so far. The number of magical to mundane creatures was off; he needed one more magical cat to balance it out. Ooh, he had it - one of those huge black cats that guard the French Ministry! It was something with an M… A moggie? Margay? Matagot - that was it! It took some time, but he eventually found a picture of a matagot and glued it to his collage. Now he needed to name his creatures. Wait, was he supposed to actually give each creature a name or just list the types? Might as well do both just to be safe, he supposed. The problem was he was terrible at naming things, so he decided to just give all the animals Star Wars names.
Speaking of names, Heath still needed one for his zoo! Something to do with cats, obviously… How about “The Cat’s Meow”? He vaguely remembered hearing that phrase used to describe something good when he last visited his brother in North America, and he wanted his zoo to do good so it kind of fit. He checked his work again. He had the general layout, the animals, and names for all the animals and the zoo itself. Now all he was missing was how it honored Newt Scamander. Uhh… This part was a lot harder than he thought. Aside from the obvious answer that Newt encountered some of the magical creatures during his travels, he was drawing a blank! Unable to come up with a better answer, he wrote down what he had:
Text Cut: Heath's zoo
Name: Heathcliff Jones Year: 3rd House: Ravenclaw
The Cat’s Meow
The Cat’s Meow is a sanctuary for all types of cats, great and small. Its layout is divided into sections for magical and mundane cats, separated by a petting zoo of kneazles and house cats in the middle of the zoo. Some types of creatures housed here played a notable part in Newt Scamander’s history. He encountered the zouwu and matagot during his trip to Paris in the 1920s, and he was known to keep kneazles as pets in his retirement. The zoo further honors his legacy by providing specialized care to a wide range of feline species and educating the public about the many types of cats in the world.
Names of Animals:
Zorii the Zouwu
Kenobi the Kneazle
Leia the Lion
Jyn the Jaguar
Windu the Wampus
Tyranus the Tiger
Maul the Matagot
Cassian & Connix the Cats

Was it possible to be awake and alert but also completely not sure what Professor Recard was talking about? Sure it was all fascinating and Newt Scamander seemed like a stellar guy but processing level was at zero for the Gryffindor Prefect. Maybe it was the fact that the first part about the wizarding war with Grindewald was a review and Carsyn tuned out after that, doodling idly on her page. The beautiful thing was though that there wasn't much more mentioned.
Designing a zoo... conservation of magical (and mundane creatures). Okay, she could do this.... but first, what creatures did she want to house there? Was it weird if she wanted to house the unappreciated? Likeeee .... everyone loves cats and owls, but having a place to represent the near extinct. The underestimated.
Taking a couple magazines back to her desk, she turned to a new page in her notebook to begin. What creatures were needed? She wanted it to be some sort of exotic zoo.... but it wouldn't feel right without there being a niffler and a hippogriff exhibits. Okay, soooo she should make a list of at least three animals first....
SPOILER!!: Zoo name and animal name things
The Exotic Sanctuary in Memoriam of Newton Scamander
- Hippogriff ( named Porpentina)
- Niffler (Luna)
- Jarvey (named Leta because he took the fall for her)
Okay so she had her three creature minimum.... How did it honor Newt?
SPOILER!!: The hows, the whys, etc
The Exotic Sanctuary would honor Newt's memory in drawing creatures that are often misunderstood and perhaps even on the risk of going extinct. It would be Newt's greatest achievement to have a location that all creatures would feel safe to be in a somewhat natural habitat, as each creature would reside in an area that resembled where they would normally roam in the outside world, but without risk of being hunted.
The creatures would be used for magizoologists (and those aspiring) everywhere to come and observe them from a safe distance.
There. Done.

Oh they were making a zoo? He could do that. Don't ask him what it had to do with history, in fact, DON'T ask him about history. His head hurt. He still had other classes today and no doubt he'd be needing at least some portion of his brain by the end.
This was fine. This he could do. A little arts and crafts was the perfect way to break up his day. So how would he do his zoo? Not knowing very many things about magical creatures, he supposed he'd stick to the normal ones.

Kitt's Zoo:
This zoo will be opened absolutely every day because people love animals and its important for them to see them and be educated. I dunno how upkeep will work but I'm assuming there would be a government grant otherwise I wouldn't have been opened to open this in the first place.
I think Newt Scamander will appreciate me trying to educate others on creatures. It sounds like that's the sort of thing he was trying to do while he was alive.
And then he began cutting. These pictures would go great and he had this whole layout.
Done!

The collage was coming along nicely, although the page was crammed full of paste and color and torn edges. Not exactly an art piece, but hopefully the professor would be impressed by her ideas, if not by her artwork. Phoebe felt like she had a good idea going here.
The Scamander-James Tiny Zoo was a celebration of creatures that the world found boring or at least mundane, but that Scamander (and Phoebe Skylar James) found interesting just by merit of being creaturey. Liiiiike puffskeins were ickle fuzzballs, but they could also be hilarious. They loved to stick their tongues up your nose, and they would roll in carpet lint like it was bubble bath.
The part of her zoo that she liked the best, apart from the fact that she'd accidentally glued her fingers together, was that she'd given the creatures plenty of space and air and food and water and each other. No cages or cement in sight.

After some thought, a lot of magazine searching, and some cutting and pasting oh her part, Cecelia had herself a pretty nice sanctuary. She went with her gut, picking creatures that reminded her of her most important people. An elephant for mum 'cause she loved elephants so much. A snidget for dad because of the snitch and the fact that he was a seeker. The mooncalf, well that one was for Sammy because he could be kind of shy and she liked thinking of them during the summer, looking up at the stars together. Looking down at her collage, the blonde smiled and added her name to the corner before flipping it around to write down a few notes on the back.

Summers Sanctuary
Summers Sanctuary is not a zoo because in the end, I decided I didn't like that word very much for this. I think it would make Newt proud because it houses creatures that the creator, that's me, really love and care about. Newt really cared about and advocated for lots of creatures, so I think he'd be cool with that being the reasoning for my creature choices. At my sanctuary there is Elsie the elephant who loves snacking and taking baths, Mo the mooncalf who loves hide and seek, but mostly hiding, and Zip the snidget because she's so so fast.

They were making a zoo! Well this was actually pretty fun and Chloe smiled a bit as she tried to think what animals she would put in a zoo. Obviously there were so many more than just three that they were being told to pick. She wanted all the animals if she could, but if she could only pick three they had to be the best ones for people to see. She put her parchment to her chin as she thought about this. Dangerous animals could be fun, but that would be hard for younger children to get a good look.
"Oh I know.."
She started writing and writing on what she would have and soon she smiled and put her quill down. That was brilliant and so much fun. She still would like to have many more animals, but maybe this is just a start of a zoo, getting the zoo off the ground and what a great way to do that by interacting with customers to bring in money. Yes, she felt her plan was perfect.

Using these animals helps start off a small zoo that can grow into a bigger one to educate others.

Interesting question...and Gabi wasn't entirely sure what he meant by it. She tilted her blonde head at Tom and shrugged. "Any type of zoo you want it to be! As long as it meets the criteria of the assignment," she told him with a smile. She was really letting their creativity go WILD here. No pun intended.

"Professor?" she asked, raising her hand. "What do you mean by 'names of the animals'? Just the type of creature they are, right?" Yes? No? Hopefully...
"Oh, no, Miss Bellchant, you should name each of your animals in the zoo! Each one is a living, breathing creature after all - they each deserve their own unique name to distinguish them as the individuals they are," Gabi told her. Which was actually a good way to segway into the end of her lesson...
"Ok everyone, please wrap up your assignments and turn them in to me up front. While I wish I could have gone into the specifics of zoos and conservation in general, that is a topic probably best left for your Care of Magical Creatures classes," she said as she stood up, clearing a spot on her desk for them to make a pile of their assignments.
"Zoos can be a controversial topic. When done CORRECTLY, they're a safe haven for animals who have no where else to go and cannot be rehabilitated to the wild. They're used as vessels for learning, helping us to better understand each species while providing the best life we can for them outside of their natural environment. THOSE are the zoos I hope you all put effort into creating, as those are the REAL tribute to Newt Scamander and his work," she said with a small smile to the class. Note the keyword there, as some zoos were certainly NOT in the business for the good of the animals. She was surprised no one had brought it up, honestly, given how opinionated some of her students were - although she hadn't read Eiji's assignment yet if he was paying attention to her answer, he could probably guess what his grade on the assigment was going to be.
Meanwhile, Jacob the niffler ran back to his spot on Gabi's desk. Thankfully, his shenanigans seemed to have gone unnoticed by many in the room. Which normally would have been perfect, had he come back pretty much empty handed! No one was carrying any coins of gold in their bags, which would have been the ultimate prize. SAD! And they were all clearly VERY in to their work and taking this assignment incredibly seriously. Good for them!
"Alright, class dismissed! This won't be the last you'll be seeing of Newt this term," she added with a small smirk. "Have a good day everyone!" she called out.
Those who were used to Gabi's lessons may have noticed that she hadn't assigned homework. Was she just in a really good mood? Or had she forgotten what it was? Ah well. Best run out before she remembered...
OOC: Thanks for coming to my lesson, everyone! I will leave this thread open for an additional 24 hours to give you time to finish up your assignments if you haven't already.

Bummer. She had to name all the animals, too? She nodded in response to what the professor had said and decided it wouldn't be too hard just to scribble out a few names here and there. She looked over her parchment and thought about what the names should be.
GOT IT.
Quote:
Name: Isla Bellchant Zoo:Goldstein-Scamander Magical Animal Zoo (Click for Illustration) Animals Featured: The three I featured on my park map are kneazles, a phoenix, and nifflers; however, I showed room for nine exhibits altogether. Names for the animals: We'll call the kneazle Maleficent, after my own kneazle; The phoenix will be Ashy, for obvious reasons; and the niffler will be Shiny, again for obvious reasons.
DONE.
Isla packed up her belongs and headed to turn in her parchment. "Here it is, Professor! I think you'll like it!" she said. It was colorful and pretty and had flowers, so what wasn't to like? Or love?! Class dismissed! WOOT WOOT!
Ohhhhh, they were actually supposed to name the animals too? Okay, that did kind of make sense. Scribbling down some names next to the creatures that he’d put in his zoo, the Ravenclaw prefect rolled up his parchment and headed straight for the front of the class and handed it in.
SPOILER!!: ”Safe Haven Zoo”
George the Diricawl
Gladys the Golden Snidget
Norman the Nundu
How does your zoo honour Newt Scamander and all he did for the wizarding world? I’ve chosen all magical creatures, choosing creatures for a variety of reasons. The Diricawl because it can be difficult to keep these creatures without muggles finding them because they believe they’re extinct.
The Golden Snidget, mainly because this creature was almost extinct because of wizards and the creation of quidditch. Wizards have a responsibility to look after the bird due to their lack of care throughout history.
As for the Nundu, Newt actually had one in its care and it didn’t actually kill him. Rumour has it that it would take over 100 wizards to contain a Nundu so if a zoo could get one from birth and study it in a safe environment, maybe it could help us understand it.
Newt wanted to care for the creatures above all else as well as for wizards to gain a better understanding of them. I think that my zoo epitomises that
”Have a good day Professor” flashing her a smile before he left.

Okay...but...know what was sort of really irritating? That whole little spiel just now that acted as a last minute qualifier that would have been better served before everyone got going on the assignment. Consider his sodium levels on the rise. While true he had given the answer he had out of spite, he did feel that it reflected a certain sort of understanding about Newt Scamander and the manner he went against authority in his own right along with the whole compassion for creatures mambo jumbo. What? Just because he had no aspirations to be a magizoologist didn't mean he understood the sentiment - look at his mum and little sister, for Merlin's sake.
So yes, Eiji suspected he knew what mark he would be receiving but did it really matter? He would argue his stance if necessary, but he really did not want to. He could easily make up the deficit in other assignments.
Sooooo...packing up his things it was and moving to where Professor Recard stood to turn in his parchment while casting a cursory glance towards the niffler while slipping his hand into his pocket again ... just to double check.
"See you, professor," he said before departing the classroom

K was still trying to recover from the embarrassment of the fact she had very loudly SHRIEKED in class because she'd almost sat on that poor little Niffler... Toy Niffler? Either way, she hadn't noticed it earlier and had been very surprised to find it nearly UNDER her when she returned to her seat.
But no matter. K quickly flipped through the magazines, finding mediocre pictures of a Horned Serpent, Wampus cat and Thunderbird. She cut them out before using her wand to apply them to her parchment so that they would actually stick there. She put them right underneath her previously decided names for her three creatures. Hmm, she still hadn't actually named the zoo itself yet...
Hm. She jotted a quick name down on her parchment towards the top. Newtmony. Not very creative, but considering her project was literally an homage to both Scamander and Ilvermony, why not just combine their names?

This zoo pays homage to Scamander by focusing entirely on magical creatures and creating safe and home like environments for creatures based upon Scamander's research.
It was fairly generic ... but it hadn't sounded like their in class project had to be too elaborate. Hearing Professor Recard dismiss them, K pushed away from her desk and collected her parchment bringing it to the front to turn it in. She offered a smile to Professor Recard as she did so, "Thank you, Professor. The lesson was fun." And she actually MEANT that.
Best the best part? K had noticed there was no homework assigned. So once she had offered her thanks, she quickly turned tail and ran before the Professor could change her mind.
