| | History of Magic LTA Rules and Requirements "FLAT" NEWT SCAMANDER LONG TERM PROJECT PART ONE - Gabi's Introduction to Flat Newt Project -Participating in this thread is the first graded part of your assignment. This thread will remain open for the duration of the project so you can post your character getting the Flat Newt cutout and signing the release form if you missed the initial window. Gabi will also remain in the classroom to answer any IC questions you have about the project. Or, as always, you can PM me any questions you may have! Please refer to the top post of the Part One thread on how to go about RPing this step. PART TWO - TAKING PICTURES AND PRESENTING YOUR STORIES
IC: Your objective - take THREE pictures of "Flat Newt" doing something around the castle. Think of the real Newt Scamander and his love for learning to help you determine what he might be doing in various places around Hogwarts. OOC: Post your character taking a picture of Newt somewhere around the castle THREE times throughout the course of the term. Posts should be thought out, detailed, and include the following criteria: Quote:
-Upload the picture of Flat Newt provided by moi (if you want to get extra creative, you can photoshop Newt onto a background but no extra points rewarded for that)
-RP the student taking their picture of Newt and taking notes on what he could be doing there (Example: At the Whomping Willow, Newt could be trying to get in to the secret passage, or he could be trying to collect bark samples for a project, so Gabi would be writing these thoughts down on her parchment in the post)
-Sentence requirement is 4-5 sentences minimum per post. Post should include: Quote:
1. The RPer explaining their student’s thought process behind choosing that location
2. RPing the character setting up the Flat Newt for the shot
3. Taking some sort of notes on what they plan to write for their final presentation regarding the photo.
Here is an example post I've drawn up for you all: Quote:
“Gabi headed down to the Whomping Willow on the bright, crisp fall afternoon, Flat Newt tucked away safely in her bag as she approached the tree. She paused about 20 feet from the tree, so she wouldn’t be in any actual danger, and pulled out the cardboard cutout of Newt. She took out the camera and positioned him in front of her, moving him away from her so that he looked like he was standing next to the tree, and she snapped the picture. She paused to check her picture, grinning at how well it had turned out before putting him and the camera away and pulling out her parchment. She sat down, crossed her legs and began to scribble her note ideas:
-Newt wants to see the secret passage under the tree
-Initially he thinks he can just dodge the tree branches but finds out quickly that is a bad idea!
-Uses immobulus to finally stop the tree and get in to the passageway
Once she had a good outline for what she wanted to write, she stood up, packed up her things and headed back to the castle.”
DROPBOX - POST YOUR LINKS Once you have written out your post, link to it in the Drop Box thread. You do not have to RP your character doing this - a post with just links will suffice. Please limit yourself to ONE post for all three links. You do not have to wait until all three posts are done to begin this step - you can edit in the remaining links as you finish them. PART THREE - PRESENTING YOUR PROJECTS
IC: Throughout the term you will be assigned a time to present your picture and your completed story to the class. This will be done on various days to allow everyone time to prepare all three stories and prevent you from burning out trying to do it all at one time! OOC: Requirements for the second part of the assignment are as follows:
-Students should RP their characters entering the classroom, giving a presentation, reacting to other students, and then leaving the class for the day. They do not HAVE to specifically name drop any particular presentation, but just acknowledge that your character is engaging with everyone else.
-The RP post itself should be 3-4 sentences long, with the story itself being 3-4 sentences long as well.
-If you wish to submit a picture to go along with your post and your story to help set the tone, that is fine! However extra credit will not be awarded for this. Just non-existent brownie points in Gabi’s book!
Example post on how to complete this step: Quote:
Gabi walked in to the classroom with her head held high. Today was her assigned day to give her presentation, and she was extremely excited to share what she had done. She’d worked hard on it, after all! She waited patiently at her desk until her turn was called and she walked up to the front with confidence. She cleared her throat before holding up the picture she had taken of Newt at the Whomping Willow. She had focused the picture so it looked like he was standing next to it - in fact, he comically looked to be about the same height as the tree! Oh well. You could only do so much with forced perspective! She’d also drawn a black eye on him specifically for the picture. She cleared her throat and began her presentation. “Today Flat Newt went on an adventure to the Whomping Willow. He’d heard about the secret passageway that you could enter in order to get the Shrieking Shack. At first, he thought that his small and slender frame would allow him to simply dodge the branches - after a few good whacks from the tree and a few newly earned bruises, he quickly learned that was NOT the case. After about 10 minutes of that, he pulled out his wand and cried “Immobulus!” at the tree, causing it to stop long enough for him to find the entrance to the passage and sneak inside.”
After finishing her presentation, she smiled as the class clapped at her finished project before taking her seat. She listened patiently to the rest of her classmates as they all took a turn - my, that was a, ahem, INTERESTING story by Kodee Chosen there - before being dismissed, grabbing her things, and heading out of the classroom.
Again, this must be completed a total of TWO times to receive full credit for this part of the assignment. They must be SEPARATE posts, occurring on separate "days" IC, and please no double posting! I WILL be monitoring the thread daily, and Gabi will acknowledging the presentations every few OOC days (or more, depending on activity!) to keep the thread moving and give everyone ample time to get the assignment done.
Part One AND the Drop Box will be open the entirety of the long term assignment to give people time to catch up. This long term assignment will be due COMPLETELY on July 31st at 7 PM CDT and will be worth 40 points. |

(continually updated as questions come up IC and OOC) Quote:
Can you take pictures of your Newt "hanging out" with another Newt / work together with another student?
OOC: YES, Newt hangouts are allowed as long as each RPer makes a post including all the criteria (see above) and doesn't RP their student breaking any plagiarism rules, etc. Additionally each student needs to submit their own link to their own post in the Drop Box. Quote:
How do the cameras work without any magic in the school?
OOC: Thankfully for you all, the cameras that Gabi has handed out are muggle cameras - although the magical film that was provided with them will no longer work. So you will still be able to take photographs for your assignment, but they won't be moving.
