| | |  Herbology Lesson 1: Toadin' Around
For a class held at 1pm, the walk to the greenhouses from the castle was rather dark and wet. The rain was expected for a date in October, but the sky was a shade or two darker than expected with the wet weather. Professor Rainwater had left a bucket outside of greenhouse five for any umbrellas the students had used to sit in. If one was to come into his class, he was already known to use it as a prop in his teaching and for it to accidentally get broken. Speaking from experience. Luckily, today’s Herbology lesson was just after lunch so the students had had ample time to get a warm drink down them before the short walk. As always, the water station is set up outside Greenhouse Five for students to grab a quick drink before class starts, but they are not permitted to enter the greenhouse with those drinks. So drink up, and get inside! Because it’s definitely warmer in here than it is out there.
Upon entering Greenhouse Five, you’ll notice immediately that Professor Rainwater is not present but there is a message written in his handwriting on the whiteboard.

In front of Professor Rainwater’s workstation where he is usually standing to greet you is a stool with two very different toads on top of it. One of the toads is more of a yellow colour and the other has a few suspicious red spots on it’s head. They don't look friendly, which is probably why your Professor has suggested not to get too close.

The boy was just about to ask the older Ravenclaw about how to simplify it when Professor Rainwater appeared. Huh? Where had he come from? Noah had been so consumed in brainstorming that he hadn't even noticed the guy just appear. He listened to the Professor speak and then paused.
Merlin Prof. Rainwater had given them really good advice, didn't he? Noah nodded, offering the Prof a smile before grinning at Ewan. Right. Start small. Get better. Get bigger. Noah wrote that down in his notebook so that he could look over that motivational quote when he wasn't feeling himself. The textbook portion was over? Noah followed the Professor's instructions packing up his textbooks and getting himself ready for the next task.
Putting his goggles on, he was suited up for this adventure. Right. Time to bounce. He headed over to the trampoline toadstools and then began bouncing. Small bounces at first until the boy built up his momentum. Thankfully being a dancer and learning how to somewhat defy gravity or perhaps try to helped him power his legs and his whole body into the bounce. Bounce.. Bounce... Hey!! There was a small little toadstool up there. With enough momentum built up, the bent his legs down lower and then shot himself up to grab the toadstool. C'mon yellow toadstool! Come here...
One yellow one acquired. YES! Now where the other toadstools ...? The boy eyed a few more across the way so he made his way over, following the similar technique that he had done. He'd use gravity to his advantage... And another one! Little blue one was his now!

Professor Rainwater is a SUPER COOL professor! He takes notes for us and even makes corrections! It doesn't get much cooler than THAT! Kids, you should be SO PROUD OF PAPA RAINWATER! - Isla Bellchant At the sound of the clapping, Isla put down her quill and looked up. She listened to him and gave him little looks of 'huh?' and 'what are you talking about?' when he mentioned their talents. She didn't think she had much talent in Herbology, but okay. She ripped off that little piece of parchment that had his note on it and left it on the workstation. She stuffed her notes in her bag, making a promise to Blake to give him a copy later.
YES, Isla was indeed ready for some FUN! She put everything away, save for her gloves and googles. She put those on then went to get a woven wrist pouch thing-a-ma-bob. OMG, TRAMPOLINE TOADSTOOLS. SHUT. UP. Then to add to that, there was a promise of POINTS, NO HOMEWORK, AND CHOCOLATE?! Game on. Slytherin HAD THIS.
Before she could even properly celebrate the hopefully upcoming prizes, Rainwater had yelled GO, and there were people and toadstools everywhere! Isla tore forward and bounced onto the first toadstool she could get to. "AHHHHHHH!" No. She wasn't scared. She was hyper!excited. She gave a good bounce, reached up, and grabbed a purple toadstool.

Morgan completely missed grabbing the first little toadstool in the air because he'd been so excited to jump on the toadstool trampolines that he jumped way too high to catch it. And he nearly lost control getting to the second giant toadstool after that first big jump. But it was cool now! It was all cool. He was basically a jumping expert!
WOOOO! He whooped and hollered as he continued bouncing from one giant toadstool to the next. Reaching up as he bounced, Morgan caught a green mini toadstool! YES! And he dropped it into his wrist pouch thingy before bouncing to the next giant toadstool.

Nina was largely ignoring any of the chaos taking place around her. Surely the younger Slytherin was just fine. Some people were far too delighted to be jumping around like a bunch of children at a themed birthday party. Nina, on the other hand, still hated this. Though she also was not entirely sure how long she could go without actually jumping before Rainwater called her out for it.
So she made a few TINY jumping attempts as well. Definitely not high enough to catch any little mushrooms, though she did reach up for them to show some sort of effort. She was jumping, see? She just wasn't jumping high. And she also made her way from large toadstool trampoline to large toadstool trampoline.
She was doing great. Toadstool jumper of the century. Someone give her a gold star.

How did Chloe get so far behind and so unfocused? She looked down at her notes that she had been writing this entire time on things she would love to use to cross with toadstools and some how she missed the directions and the chaos that was happening right in front of her. She just watched with confusion before getting up. It all looked like so much fun, but what were they trying to do?
Watching her brother and the others she soon realized they were catching toadstools and using bouncing ones to sit on. This was exciting and she was cursing herself for not being more focused on what was around her instead of with her own thoughts on crossbreeding.
Grabbing one of the bouncing toadstools she sat down and started to bounce. She needed to get the hand of this before she tried to catch anything. This wasn't flying so taking her hands off to grab was going to be a little more difficult, but she had all the confidence that she could do it. She would figure it out.

Isla continued to bounce happily. For a second there, she forgot this was actually a competition and that she was supposed to be gathering those little toadstool thingies. Had it not been for the fact that this was a competition, she'd probably just be bouncing around like an out of control lunatic.
So having said that, she set her sights on bouncing toward the next toadstool. She pushed herself off the one she was currently on and bounced through the air, landing gracefully on the next toadstool. She bounced around for a minute, trying to get her balance and aim under control, and then she reached for a green toadstool. She felt her hands close around it, and she tossed it into her pouch before she could lose it.
Trying to make up for lost time, she bounced toward the next toadstool. There was a little red toadstool zooming around, but try as she might, she just couldn't get it. Whatever. Red was for Gryffindors anyway. She bounced to another toadstool and set her sights on a blue toadstool. She was able to easily get to this one, and she tossed it into the pouch with the other two.

Blake had a sudden urge to stick his tongue out at her, but thought that seemed rather childish so he resisted the urge and began to flex and extend his arm to make sure everything was in good working order.
"I'm fine Bernadette." Blake said using his injured arm to wave at her to prove a point. It still stung a little not going to lie, but it was getting better with each passing minuet. "Shall we bounce?" He asked her and did another bounce to catch another green one.

Aboli was glad the kid was fineeeee. Merlin. She was also glad he wasn't going to go on and on and ON about it, either. So she just kept jumping, grabbing a floating toadstool easily the first jump, but missing them the next few times. It made her wonder how one earth astronauts lived in space without gravity - and this jumping with WITH gravity, and she couldn't even to successful catch a bunch of toadstools in the air. She stuffed another yellow one in her wristlet before bouncing in another direction.
BOUNCE BOUNCEEEE
"Professor, you should play some music while we bounce!" she called out, thinking it would feel more like a party that way. They could BOUNCE to the music!

Bounce, bounce, bounce. This was FUN. Alexandre was wondering if Professor Rainwater would leave these here even after the lesson was over so they could just come and bounce. He would LOVE that. But he really shouldn't be getting so distracted from the task at hand. He had to catch more little toadstools. He had to catch more than the people from the other houses so that Ravenclaw could win. Then he wouldn't have to do homework. And because winning was fun. He bounced up and snatched another toadstool out of the air and added it to his pouch.
It looked like there was a bit of a pile up in front of him. Aboli had ran into someone and knocked them both over. He switched his course and bounced around them so he wouldn't get in the middle of that and fall over too. That would waste precious bouncing and catching time. Speaking of, there was another mini toadstool right above him. He bounced a few times to gain height and then jumped up high to grab it. Yes! He added it to his pouch. He had three now! Go team! | |

Claudine bounced, bounced, bounced on a big toadstool, watching Blake with disgust. She hoped that he would start crying like the big baby he was. Really, she had never seen a Slytherin who was so weak. And naturally Bernadette was concerned for him. This fact annoyed her but she tried to distract herself by moving onto another mini. A serious gaze was cast to her right then to her left then ahead of her. All three directions had a fair number of students.
Bounce.
A quick look over her shoulder told her that the best direction to go would be behind. Less persons there, less chances of accidents. Carefully, Claudine bounced her way to her chosen spot since she had spotted a green mini just waiting to be grabbed. The girl stopped on the bigger toadstool below the mini, bounced higher and higher until…
Grab.
One more mini safely in the pouch.

Okay, so far, so good! Heath had one toadstool, and he hadn't fallen off… yet.* If he could keep this up and catch one toadstool each bounce with no misses, maybe Ravenclaw wouldn't get slaughtered by Gryffindor and Slytherin all the other houses. He glanced around, trying to make a mental tally of the other students' toadstools, but there were way too many people to keep track of at once… especially while bouncing. Please, at least let us beat Gryffindor, he thought to himself. His sister would never let him hear the end of it if Gryffindor won, and he'd had enough of her Gryffindor superiority complex!
He shook his head, trying to distract himself. No point in thinking about that now! The only thing he could do to come out on top was keep bouncing. Up, down, up, down… He saw a red toadstool hovering above him. He bounced, reaching up as high as he could, and caught it. Thank Merlin he was tall for his age! With the red toadstool safely in his pouch, he looked for more nearby. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a purple one off to his right. He bounced toward it, reached up, and…
Missed. Ugh! At the rate he was going, they were never going to win… not that Heath particularly cared about the candy or lack of homework. The only prize that mattered to him was the points because points meant validation. That and he hoped that winning points would help him win more friends.
Heath tried again for the purple toadstool, he still couldn't reach it. Eyes darting from the tiny purple toadstool to the giant one he was standing on. something clicked in his mind. He was never going to reach that toadstool from this angle! He'd have to jump onto a different trampoline toadstool to get it. Well, here goes… He took a deep breath and jumped, wobbling slightly as he landed. After a quick moment to find his balance, he was back to bouncing. He turned toward the purple toadstool, taking a bounce in that direction, and - Got it, finally!

Oh no - where were YOU going, Alexandre? Aboli BOUNCED toward the Ravenclaw, hoping to catch up to him. She SNATCHED a mushroom from RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS NOSE. She nearly punched him. Luckily, though, she didn't, which was good, because then she would have felt so bad!
It was blue! And she bounced a LITTLE higher to grab another one, this one PINK. She put both in the pouch before turning back to Alexandre. "Want me to help you EXTRA bounce so you can get that reaaaaally high one? You have a better chance...you're taller..." she thought he was, anyway.

Naya had been successful on her previous attempts at snagging toadstools. She hoped that her luck would continue. She had to keep getting more......more for Gryffindor. So of course more bouncing happened. Naya was loving this activity. In fact, this may have been the most fun in a Hogwarts class ever. Enjoying her bounce house workout, Naya continued to jump. She had her eye on another toadstool nearby. A red one, naturally. Up she went, reaching farther, until she came down with the red toadstool she had been going after. Into the wrist pouch went her prize.
Naya bounced ahead a bit, so she would not bump into any of her classmates. The professor did not intend for anyone to get hurt and she was not going to let him down. Even though she wanted another red toadstool, a yellow one was closer. So yellow it was. Bounce, bounce, bounce. For some reason, this one seemed a little harder to catch. Naya was determined though and she would not give up until she captured it. Eventually she was successful and placed the yellow toadstool in her pouch with the others. She definitely would not need to take her run around the grounds today. This was enough exercise to last her a while.

Forget brainstorming, THIS was what Cecelia was going to remember about today's lesson and she wasted absolutely no time packing up her things so she could jump right in. JUMP! Because they were going to be jumping around! IN CLASS! This was epic.
Cecelia was bouncy by nature so she didn't hold back as she bounced from one large toadstool to the next, her golden hair blocking her view the first time she reached for one of the baby mini mushrooms in the air, causing her to miss. She quickly remedied the situation, frustrated by her long locks and eager to tie it back and out of the way.
Okay, round two!
RAWR!
Booooounce bounce bounce!
Spotting a little orange toadstool, the third year headed right for it, arm outstretched, tongue between her teeth, eyes wide as her fingers closed around it. "YES!" She deposited the little guy right in the pouch around her wrist and then it was on to the next.

Avalon didn't know how to feel about all this bouncing. For one, it was kind of fun, and a pretty mindless activity, save for trying to capture the mushrooms. But on the other hand, she felt kind of stupid, her hair was falling out of its ponytail, and her legs were already getting a little tired. She only had one toadstool so far, though, so she knew she had to keep bouncing.
She leapt to the next toadstool, spotting a few mini toadstools floating above it. Bouncing a few times to get her balance - she knew now that she needed to let herself adjust to the mushroom before trying to grab anything - she looked around the room. At least everyone else looked just as silly. After another bounce, she snagged a purple mushroom. YES! She then set her eyes on a red one floating a little bit higher. Avalon used all of her strength to bounce up, but she just missed grabbing it. Well, there was no use wasting time.
So she set her sights on the next giant toadstool, ready to capture a little green mushroom hovering by it. Avalon tried to leap over to it, but overcompensated for the distance, landing on the far side of the mushroom. She wobbled a bit, trying to regain her footing. That was a close one. After another few bounces, she was able to reach for the green one. Three mushrooms captured! She wondered how her other housemates were doing. It would be nice to get those extra house points.

Errrm. Valencia wasn't the best at physical activities. Sure, she would hold her own during the summers, but that was when she was far away from other people. She grabbed a woven pouch and tried to get far enough away from people to avoid any and all possibilities of injury or accidentally running in to people.
She made an attempt to bounce, which was really just an awkward knee crouch and an attempt to stretch high and catch a toadstool. She failed.

Gus was enjoying watching this happen more than he should have. It was SO EXCITING. And he couldn’t wait for class to end so he could dismiss the teenagers and get to bouncing himself until dinner time. It was a necessary activity. And honestly he felt that the kids were having the right level of fun. GURGUSTIUS RAINWATER WAS PROUD. OF HIMSELF. OF HIS PUPILS. Checking his watch, he called loudly into the bounce house. ”You have FIVE minutes left! FIVE MINUTES to grab as many toadstools as you can!!!!” Time for frenzy grabbing and bouncing? Probably. OOC: 5 minutes left IC and about 12 hours left OOC! Time to get grabbing those last minute toadstools to secure a win for your house! There are sweeties, house points and a week of no Herbology homework available!
Remember whilst your character can only grab one toadstool per bounce, they can grab two per post. So two bounces per post!

Five minuets left, time for one last good bounce .. or 2 if he hurried. Eyeing Claudine from the corner of his eye she was giving one of her really good distasteful looks, yeah yeah Claudine, nothing new there, try a different face for once Blake thought. Even though she was in his own house and he wanted Slytherin to win, he hoped she fell on her face.
FOCUS!!!!!!! Blake took another good bounced and snagged a yellow one and placed it in his wrist bag. He had lost count of all the ones he had caught, hopefully the Professor was keeping tract .... or well.... he could just dump out his bag and count ... but no time now!! He could still get one good bounce in.
Bouncing super hard to get one last one, Blake snagged another green one and did another front flip for the fun of it and landed. Nailed it!

ONLY FIVE MINUTES LEFT?! ABOLI HAD TO WIN IT FOR SLYTHERIN! She BOUNCED high - after having just had momentum from bouncing Alexandre high - and SCOOPED a mushroom by the tip of her fingers. A blue one, again, that she haphazardly shoved into her little pouch.
MORE BOUNCING.
MORE GRABBING, MISSING, FALLING ON HER BUM, ETC.
She did a barrel roll and HOPPED UP eagerly, grabbing another yellow one. All these yellow mushrooms just kept coming to her! She attracted the color, clearly, which was fine. There was nothing wrong with a little yellow. Too much was too much. Right now, though, Aboli had her eyes on a pretty purple one not too far from her, so...scrambling to her feet, she hopped her way over to it.

Heath kept bouncing, searching the vicinity around him for more toadstools to grab… or trying to anyway. It was kind of hard to look when his hair kept falling in his face. Well, actually it always did that, but now it was kind of distracting! Shaking his hair out of his eyes, he looked up and saw a green toadstool right above him. He jumped, reaching up as far as he could and caught it, placing it in the pouch with all the others... just as Professor Rainwater gave the five minute warning.
Heath wasn't sure what to make of that. On the one hand, he was glad class was almost over. Maybe he'd make it out of here without anything bad happening! On the other, he was worried because it meant he was running out of time. What if his best efforts weren't enough to secure a Ravenclaw victory? Never mind… no time!
Heath looked up again, his dark eyes scanning for more toadstools, and spotted a little gold one to his left. Hmm… was the gold one like a golden ticket, or a golden snitch for people who wouldn't get the muggle reference? Whoever catches the gold toadstool wins for their house? Only one way to find out, he supposed! He turned in the direction of the toadstool and bounced as high as he could. He reached out and - Got it! Yes! Oh, he had a golden toadstool…

On that note, Isla scurried around so much that she nearly slipped off the toadstool she was bouncing around on. She regained her balance then bounced around until she reached the next toadstool. There were twenty or so little toadstools swarming around, but just as she went to grab one, all twenty of them floating off to the next toadstool.
Isla bounced after them. She stayed in place and bounced a few times to get higher and higher, and when she did, she snatched a little yellow toadstool hovering nearby. "GOTCHA!" she called out.
...and because there were so many toadstools in one little area, she decided to make the most of it and snatched a blue one, too. She secured them both in her little pouch then bounced toward the next toadstool.

Bernie needed to grab another toadstool, another, another! She huffed and puffed and leapt from one giant trampoline 'stool to another one, snagging a purple one as she went. She liked these purple ones; they were the best.
Then she put her eye on a GREEN one and bounce-bounce-bounce-wait-for-it-bounced to a NEW toadstool, where a green mushroom was hovering. BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE UP!! And snagged it. Wow. She'd gotten better at catching things these last five minutes. Bernie had like at least FOUR mushrooms in her pouch, or so she thought. She bounce bounce bounced down and over to another cluster of floating shrooms.

Hadn’t they started the activity just a minute or so ago? Time surely went by quickly when one was having fun. Yes, Claudine could surely admit that she was having fun. Hopefully, she would be able to snag at least one more mushroom. She remained bouncing on the bigger toadstool that had been used to pluck the previous mini toadstool.
There was another mini a short distance away. She just needed to… one bounce over a big toadstool, swerve dramatically to avoid a head on collision with another student, another bounce on another big toadstool, a few bounces on the toadstool below the mini with her right hand extended... and… snag.
One magenta mini caught and placed in the pouch.

Carsyn was largely paying attention to her own jumping because how could she not?? This was probably the closest she was going to get to playing quidditch at Hogwarts and catching as many of these things as possible was the goal. But out of her periphery she couldn't help but notice a certain Nina was barely moving. Yes she was going from toadstool to toadstool, but not really jumping. Was Nina Castillo SCARED about this?? Jumping closer to the older girl, she casually swiped another mini toadstool into her wrist pouch as she did. That was two in there so far; did they jump out the same way they could jump? Did it matter if they jumped out if the toadstools were in the pouch once?
"That's not a jump, Nina! Come on and jump higher!!" She exclaimed quickly before jumping away and ironically catching a green mini toadstool as she did so. Make that three. Was there a limit?
