| | |  DADA Lesson 1: Ride ‘em kelpies
It was bright and early on the morning after the feast. A fresh, 8 am class as the Headmaster had warned just the night before. How many had taken him seriously and sought to get a good night's sleep was yet to be seen but Trent himself had gone to bed at a decent hour and felt...well...great.
The rain had come and gone, the grass was newly watered, the sun was up and offering a bit of warmth in the Scottish country side. It was the perfect set up and left the man more excited to begin the day's lesson.
Hard to believe, but somehow he'd missed teaching over the summer. Missed springing surprises on them and watching them react--quick on their feet or entirely malfunctioning.
Malachi stood facing the lake with his back turned to the castle. He inhaled deeply, enjoying the early morning while he still could. Before they got down to business. The man felt perfectly at peace. A glance down at his watch told him the students would be arriving soon.
Well rested, he hoped. On time, he hoped even more. The absence of a door to drag them out was no guarantee things would be any better.

A good night's sleep in her comfy four-poster bed and the pleasant morning weather helped to improve her mood tremendously. Jina was back in her eager-to-learn mode, even though the first class was Defence Against the Dark Arts, one of her weaker subjects. She was even feeling optimistic - maybe this year, she would gain more confidence in this class. It was her final year of school after all, so she was determined to make an effort in everything she did.
“Good morning, Professor,” she greeted the headmaster. She put down her bag and decided to breathe in some fresh air while waiting for the lesson to begin.

Claudine hadn't fallen asleep easily the night before. She had lain in her bed tossing and turning as she mulled over the events that had occurred between her and Bernie. She hated thinking about it and had finally drifted off into an uneasy sleep. Luckily, her habit of waking early remained intact and she was able to make it to the 8 AM lesson looking fully rested.
"Good morning, Headmaster," the third year said quietly, not altogether sure if he would hear her. He looked rather in his own thoughts and she wasn't about to disturb him further. Claudine shuffled off a bit so that she wouldn't wind up at the front of the hoard of students when they turned up. In any case, she was looking to keep out of sight for as much as she could.

The weather seems to be in place as the school term officially begins for them. Jillian could still remember about the Headmaster's speech and quite frankly she is not a fan of being late for his class.... nor she is in any class at all. But it was best that she didn't need to worry herself by taking her time. With that, she finished up her toasted bread and milk while walking towards DADA.
Finishing up the last drop of her milk she then placed it inside her bag to discard for later. She made sure she fixed herself properly; wiping her lips of any traces of the milk (if there are any). She walked closer and greeted Headmaster Trent with a soft smile. "Good morning, Headmaster" she spoke up and then joined the other students.

Naya did not feel particularly rested, but she was awake and ready for her first class of the year. It didn’t hurt that it was Defense Against the Dark Arts. The Headmaster always had something cool planned for them. She expected that today would not be any different.
“Good Morning Headmaster”, Naya said, as she entered the classroom. Yep, she was ready to get the year started. She made her way to an empty seat and deposited herself in it. After gathering the necessary items for class, she put her bag on the floor. Today was going to be a good day.........or else.

It seemed like not that long ago Blake was in this class room trying his best to hide from Slytherin .... okay he didn't hide, he fainted, full on fainted, not very manly or Slytherin like, but ... doing his best to suppress that awful memory, Blake put a smile on his face and bounced into the classroom. Confidence and all .. that was this year's mantra ... confidence.
"Hello Headmaster." Blake added as he walked past their Professor/Headmaster ... Blake was definitely ready to take on his 3rd year.

After the speech last night...Aboli was NOT about to be late for Headmaster Malachi's class. She was up early, bright eyed and ready to go. Hopefully the eagerness would wear off soon, because Aboli found it all very tiring at the end of the day. How exciting that the first class would beeee at the LAKE? She hopped her way up the steps from the dungeons and out into the greenery....or was it really more grey-ery, since the weather was quite grey usually.
She noticed her house prefect...but little other familiar faces. That was okay! "Morning, Headmaster Trent," she said as she straightened her tie and waited patiently with her hands hooked behind her back.

Curtis slept relatively well at night. He was slightly disappointed that he woke up early enough that appearing late for his first day would take more effort. It was too bad, he was beginning to find a thrill with annoying the man. So, he arrived for the lesson in time with the other students.
"Hello Headmaster." Curtis said, no cheeky delivery or comment.... for now. A small smile appeared before he shuffled off to stand with the other Slytherins. Perhaps he will be a good little snake... Perhaps.

Getting up this early after weeks of sleeping in during the summer had went ....surprisingly well... Perhaps it was because the first lesson they got happened to be Defense Against the Dark Arts which was one of Minjae's favourite subjects at school.
After finishing his breakfast (toast with eggs and bacon) the Hufflepuff followed his classmates outside towards the Lake, enjoying the breeze. He liked this sort of weather, not too hot not too cold. Perfect! . "Morning Headmaster" he greeted as he looked from the man to the water of the Lake. "Are we going to fight Grindylows? Cause if so, i am READY" He said as he shadow boxed the air before finding a spot to stand by himself.

Nettie had NOT taken the Headmaster's advice and gotten a good night's sleep, but it was not for lack of trying. She was simply too excited to get her NEWT year underway, and she had been extremely sappy about it since the feast last night. Her LAST Welcome Back feast at Hogwarts. Her LAST first day of classes! Her LAST first DADA class! Nettie was EMOTIONAL but doing a fine job of hiding it, if she did say so herself. She approached the Headmaster with a grin as she gathered with the rest of the students. "Hello Headmaster Trent!" she greeted him happily as she settled into a spot near the front.
Nettie was truly looking forward to getting this term underway. She already had a NEWT study schedule planned out, based on how her OWLs had gone, so she was READY. Her Ravenclaw was definitely coming out this term. Whoops.

Nem's uniform was, unfortunately, still of the very pre-owned variety, but was nevertheless looking neat and tidy upon arrival at today's Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson area out by the lake. Nem himself felt perfectly refreshed and well-rested. His hair was pushed carelessly over to one side, all the better to display those big, innocent angel eyes.
"Good morning, Professor Trent," Nem chirped, joining the group and giving a cursory glance to those present. Hmm, no. Back to Trent. "Easing into the term with some swimming lessons, sir?" A joke.

Ilya had a good night, he managed to wake up just in time to have some breakfast, brush his teeth, press his uniform and merrily contently walk down the moving stairs aaaaaaaaaaall the way from the tower down to the grounds. He had his bag slung across his shoulders, and a couple of heavy books plus a notebook in there.

Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of those classes that Carsyn had always felt she did mediocre in, yet somehow it was the one class she managed an Outstanding OWL. Strange how that worked out, huh? Perhaps she underestimated her abilities in this course. She was not eager about the 8am lesson, even though she'd been awake for hours.
Still no indication who head of house was had left the Gryffindor Prefect with uncertainty and uneasiness. Who would she go to for advice? Who was going to be there to make sure she didn't do anything stupid? To give her that sense of calm?
Also was it just her or were there A LOT of bright-eyed Gryffindor First Years this year?
"Morning Headmaster," she said, gazing around at the setup. Interesting. Very interesting.

Bernie felt weird about being outside, by the lake, with the Headmaster. Again. She was actually reminded of one of her detentions around this time last year, when she'd had to scrub a dub all the first-year boats.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh. Was Fuller-Thompson going to show up today too?
She frowned and hung toward the back of the group, avoiding Blake even though he was usually the angel on her shoulder, and also avoiding Claudine, the devil on her shoulder and also everywhere else. Bernie squinted at the Headprofman with a soft, "Hullo, sir," and then finally threw her hand up to shield her eyes so she could squint at him properly.
Did he notice how good she was being? DID HE? She had IRONED HER ROBES before packing her trunk this year. HONESTLY.

Cole had gotten a good night’s sleep, but he didn’t feel very alert or rested. Hopefully the porridge and jam toast he had eaten for breakfast would give him some energy. Coming down to the lake, the blond lion youth turned his attention first to their professor with a small smile. "Good morning Headmaster Trent! Will we get to meet merpeople today?" Why they were outside on the grounds by the lake was very curious and brought up questions. Shifting the position of his backpack into a more comfortable position Cole waved to Claudine and Carsyn before he went over to stand next to Naya. "Hi Naya! Did you get a good night’s sleep like the Headmaster ordered in his feast speech?"

Eight A.M. the morning after the feast should be illegal for classes to get underway. Did he not understand that she'd slept til at least ten all summer long? Eight A.M. was like, in the middle of the night or something.
Even still, here she was. At least this class was outside. Nothing like a burst of sunlight to get somebody going. "Morning, Headmaster! What a nice day! A bright...and super early...top of the morning day," she said. He looked lost in his thoughts, so she just passed him on by, unsure if he even heard her or not. This time, she chose Nem to stand by. "Morning, Nem," she said.

Sleep, what was sleep? Chloe hadn't even tried to sleep to be honest. After the feast she stayed up with her fellow seventh years in her dorm and chatted a while before things got quiet, but she was still thinking about a certain person and a certain sport. Her mind was restless because of both and when her alarm went off super early she still got up and went on her morning run that she had done for year.
As she walked back out to the lake for class the seventh year blonde wasn't feeling a chipper as she usually would to the headmaster, because she was being super pouty and blaming him like a toddler for her mood.
"Morning Headmaster" was all he was getting and she found a spot near Nettie to stand and wait for class to begin.

Mother of merlin she was exhausted. K had spent way too much time staying up late and getting used to her new surroundings. She usually took a little of an adjustment period to get used to somewhere new, and that wouldn't kick in for at least another week. Which meant first week of classes was sure to be fun for her.
And today was clearly an example of how fun it would be. Her first class at Hogwarts had to be with the headmaster of all people. At her last school, she had gotten a chance to know the headmaster fairly well, however she was hoping that if that tradition were to carry on it Hogwarts it wouldn't be from day one.
And with that in mind, she quickly scurried by the professor and weaseled her way into the back of the growing crowd. Out of site, out of mind. And with all the other students in front of her, perhaps if they were permitted to sit on the grace she could catch a quick snooze.

8am class on the first day back? What more did he really expect from the headmaster, and yet, he was all in on it. In fact, this Ravenclaw prefect had already gone on his morning run, showered and still managed to get to the lesson with time to spare. Talk about time management skills!
Greeted by sunshine and fresh morning dew, the giant prefect walked casually towards the lake this morning, whistling a tune without a care in the world. Well, maybe he had NEWT anxiety but it was too nice of a morning to let that get to him now. Instead, he chose to focus on the here and now.
Giving the headmaster a respectful smile and a ”Good morning Headmaster, he headed over to where some of his fellow students where standing, finally settling on standing next to one of the newer students (Aboli), because reaching out is important, Duh. ”So, are you ready for you first lesson at Hogwarts?” deciding against the usual greeting of Hey, I’m Ewan, What’s your name? because that was just a little boring and awkward.

Avalon was pretty surprised that she was able to get a restful sleep last night. She usually was way more than energetic after the start-of-term feasts, but she had conked out as soon as her head hit the pillow last night. It was probably a good thing considering today's early morning lesson. She made her way down to the lake, quite content with the pleasant weather and the fact that she was finally back at Hogwarts.
"Good morning, Headmaster," Avalon said with a friendly smile. She was inclined to ask him if he enjoyed his summer, but she figured he wasn't usually the one to enjoy small talk. The young Ravenclaw spotted the girl she met on the train, Kimmie. Giving her a wave, she made her way over to the transfer student. "Hey there! How'd your first night at Hogwarts go?" Hopefully Kimmie hadn't run into any rude ghosts or disappearing stairwells on her first day. "Congratulations on Hufflepuff, by the way! And now, in true Hogwarts fashion, you'll get to experience the legendary Headmaster Trent," she added with a chuckle. At least Trent's lessons were always interesting and interactive. Better than being bored to death on their first day back.

Tom was looking forwards to this class, he walked towards the lesson and smiled as he remember how he had been shocked last term when the headmaster was around. "Morning Headmaster." He smiled. "Hope you are well." He was curious about what they would be learning out here, but he knew the headmaster would tell them soon.

Early mornings?
Ha, EASY, thought the newly minted Gryffindor as he made his way down to the very first lesson of the day. He had gotten up before his alarm went off, got a run in, showered (cause he had to look presentable- appearances were important), and even ate breakfast. Noah was proud of his accomplishments this morning so when he walked there was a slight bounce in his step. With his book bag slung lazily off his left shoulder, he made his way over to the crowd.
"Good Morning Headmaster," he greeted with a nod before joining the other students. He looked through the crowd, noticing a few familiar faces like his housemates, Ilya, Avalon, and Kimmie. They all received a smile and a quick wave. Where were Islay and Aboli? He was sure they would have beaten him here... As he continued to scan the crowd, he found Aboli. AH! She was here and she was standing next to a guy (Ewan). "Hey," he said to the two of them."Any guesses on what to expect?"
