Hey All You Cool Cats & Kittens... Kneazles & Wampus Kittens, that is
Williamson typically scheduled his classes for later in the day so that he had time to get up, get moving, and get all the Hogwarts animals (including himself) fed and watered. Today was no exception. The first Care of Magical Creatures class was starting after lunch, and hopefully, both you (and the cat you brought with you) are alert and ready to learn.
As you walk down to the fenced-in area where class is usually held, you notice that the grassy area in the center is set up like some kind of obstacle course, but not for people of your size. What is set for your size are the various stumps and bales of straw around the edge of the course for you to sit on.
"Don't let the cats out yet," the Professor warns you as you come in. He, meanwhile, is standing by some kind of covered crate with hidden contents and has a dusty old chalkboard beside it for teaching. And if you didn't bring a cat, don't worry: the Hogwarts kneazles are roaming around inside the fenced-in area, brushing up against you and each other in a very friendly way.
OOC: HELLO! Welcome. If you have a pet cat or an illegal kneazle, feel free to RP for them in a different color. You can also RP for a Hogwarts kneazle, if you want to snag one of those.
Catch-up posts are welcome at any time; just pop 'em under a spoiler tag, please and thanks.
LESSON PROGRESSION:
Q1. What do you know about magical/mundane cats and the care they require?
MINI-ACTIVITY. Run the obstacle course with a cat or kneazle. Fastest time wins!
oh oh is that how it was? She had been patiently waiting and frankly, Islay was doooooone with patience. “Come on Kasha, lets bounce.” She told the cat with a huff as she finally resorted to attaching a harness to Kasha and walking dragging the cat through the course.
THE HUMAN WAS BEING RUDE, Kasha hissed at first before looking around and seeing the other humans doing the same thing. Giving her human a sniff she just decided to move a bit, not for her but for the treats. She could get nonsoggy teats this way.
"come on Kash, I'll get you all the treats," Islay spoke smiling at her and she began to move - BOOK it really as she HOPPED onto the first obstacle - Islay was quietly running alongside the golden-haired kneazel as she glided through the course. HA we can do this without you Mark Gunter.

They were running out of time and Team Benjie/Naya had barely cleared the first obstacles. It was time to reevaluate the situation. Naya had a plan. It involved convincing Benjie to wear the harness and leash. That was probably the only way she could move things along. Maybe if that worked, she could walk or run alongside the kneazle like those handlers in the muggle dog shows. Maybe then they could complete the rest of the tasks. Convincing him was going to be the challenge.
Naya pulled the harness and a couple of treats out of her pocket. Then she got down on her knees and addressed her partner. “Ok Benjie, here’s the deal. We need to finish things up. See this? I’m going to put it on you and we can do this together. You’ll get some treats if you work with me. What do you say?” Not waiting for an answer, Naya tried to distract him with a treat. While Benjie was eating, she slipped the harness on and clipped on the leash.
Benjie was quite happy sitting on the grass, eating treats and feeling the breeze. He was so into his treat that he hardly noticed the harness being placed on him. When he did, he was not particularly pleased. But treats though. Treats!
Naya put the leash around her wrist with a treat in one hand and the toy mouse in the other hand. Giving the leash a slight tug, she tried to get Benjie on his feet. She led him along to the seesaw and when it seemed like he was going to cooperate, she walked from one end to the other. When he reached the end, it was treat time. “You are really awesome Benjie. I knew you could do it!“ They were on a roll and Naya didn’t want to stop now. She kept going through more obstacles, giving the kneazle a treat each time he completed one.
What was this thing that the girl had put around his body? If Benjie hadn’t been so greedy for treats, he might have protested more. As long as she kept the treats coming, he guessed he could put up with a few minutes of unnecessary exercise. She was walking with him and taking him over and under and around some interesting things. If he followed her, he got more treats. That much he understood.
After what seemed like an eternity, Naya led Benjie back and forth through the slalom poles. She was afraid that he would be full of treats or lose interest before they finished the course. Fortunately, they made it and she had one treat to spare. Thank Merlin. Sitting down and letting Benjie crawl into her lap, she gave him a big hug and stroked his fur. She gave him the last treat and watched him enjoy it. “We did it Benjie! You were amazing!” Naya was so proud of her kneazle. She had her doubts at first, but he had really done a good job. And now that they had bonded, she wondered if she would be able to visit him sometime during the school year.
Finally they were finished with whatever this was that the girl had him doing. When she sat down, he curled up in her lap and soaked up all the love that she was offering him........not to mention another treat. A kneazle could get used to this. He kind of hoped this girl would continue to bring him treats, minus the crazy exercises.

Isla returned the little ball back to where it came from, which was the ground, all thanks to WWW and his organizational skills. She tossed the harness back into the pile, as well. Isla picked up her kneazle and gave her extra special hugs, seeing as she had no idea where she was going to have to leave her tonight. This was horrible. This was terribly unfair. Maleficent had lived under her bed in the dorm since the night of the feast, and so far, nothing bad had happened.
With a sigh, she looked up at WWW. She could easily detail what she did step by step, but she'd seen him eyeing her and taking notes. Merlin only knew what they said, though. "I think the treat approach went well for now, although I couldn't really tell if it was my training methods, or if Maleficent was just hungry," she explained. "It'd have to be a trial and error thing. Also, I need more treats if I'm going to do this the right way."
Maleficent snuggled happily into her owners arms. She was full of treats, and now she was being petted to sleep. Can life get any better than this? She couldn't wait to get back to her home under the bed and snuggle in for a real night's rest.
Avalon waited near the end of the course for Shadow to return. The cat usually gave up on his hunting pursuits after he realized that it was relatively impossible to catch a bird that high up in the sky. As soon as she spotted him slinking back across the grass, Avalon jogged over to him. She scooped the feline up and trudged back across the grounds. No use in finishing the course now. At least Professor Williamson didn't expect them to make every single obstacle.
"Well, Shadow didn't have much internal motivation to complete the course, but at least he was pretty cooperative when I offered him some treats," she said, contemplating what went well and what was difficult. "I've seen some Muggles run their dogs through courses like these, and the dogs don't even need any treats or toys to get them through. They just run it on their own!" Maybe that was just a cat versus dog thing. But it would be cool if Shadow could do that. "And the distractions were a struggle. Shadow bolted as soon as he saw that bird!"

Ooooh, an OBSTACLE COURSE? How exciting. Louise wasn't sure how well Lucy would do in the course since cats were so aloof all the time, but as soon as she saw a toy being spilled out of the box that was a little wand with a dangly fish at the end of it, Louise dove for it (almost like a cat would) because she knew Lucy LOVED those. If she could chase one of those, she would do fairly well at the obstacle course.
"Come on Lucy, let's do this." Once they were set free to do the activity, Louise set Lucy on the ground and dangled the toy in front of her so she would follow her towards the course. First she went to the teeter-totter thing and dangled the toy uuuuuppp to the middle...
FISHY, FISHY, FISHY. As soon as the fish was released, Lucy green eyes were LOCKED onto it, ignoring all other animals around her, hunting the fish down as it moved onto the course. Lucy's paws brought her up the first obstacle and she was SO focused on the fishy that her AGILE reflexes caught her balance on the way down when the teeter-totter caught her weight and brought her back down to the grass. THE FISH IS MINE.
"Ooooh, good girl!" Louise cheered, impressed by Lucy's ability to stay on the beam even though her eyes were on the fish.
She didn't let her catch the fishy yet, though. She still had some tasks to perform first. Louise brought her cat to a hoop next. She dangled the fish on the other side of the hoop.
She had been so CLOSE, but the fishy was on the move again. Her big green eyes still locked on it, Lucy followed the fish as it dangled behind a strange wheel. Lucy hunkered to the ground and wiggled her butt..... aaaaaaand POUNCE. THROUGH THE HOOP. FANGS IN FISH. REAR KICKERS ENGAGE. MISSION COMPLETE.

Heath smiled a little in reply to the professor, but he nearly laughed out loud when the subject turned to cats' behavior around other felines. Not so much that the subject itself was funny, but knowing Rey, she'd probably annoy the other cats by following them everywhere or something! Unlike her shy owner, Rey never met a stranger, human or feline, that she couldn't befriend! As such, Heath waited until after he'd retrieved a leash and harness - blue, like the other Rey's lightsaber, of course - to let her out of her carrier. He didn't want her running off and getting into trouble!
FREEDOM!!! Rey shot out of her carrier like a rocket the second the door opened. Her eyes darted back and forth, taking in the strange sights around her. Yaaaay, new friends! Look at all the other kittehs! Hiiii, other kittehs! I'm a kitteh too! There sure were lots of smol hoomans. Ooh, and a big hooman too! Hey, hoomans! Who wants to pet me? She flopped onto her back with a cheerful meep as an invitation. I iz cute fluffeh Jedi cat!
What a Jedi was, Rey had no idea, but her hooman said she got her name from one so it must be good!
Heath waited until Rey was distracted to slip the harness on her. Now they just needed toys and treats, and they'd be good to go. Which toy would Rey like best, though? He decided to let her pick for herself. He led her to the toys, watching as she made a beeline straight for a feather wand. Looks like they had a winner! He gave Rey a moment to two to play with the toy as he gathered a few treats before grabbing the end of the stick and jiggling it in the direction of the first obstacle. "We've got this, Rey!" Or they did as long as he could keep her focused on the course and not the other cats and people around!
Hey, what are you doing, smol hooman? Get this thing off - BIRB!!!! Must get birb! Rey rolled on the ground, wrapping her front paws around the feathery thing while kicking it with her back ones. Then the birb moved. Hey, where do you think you're going? I'm not done with you, birb! Rey dashed after the birb alongside her hooman, stopping in front of a giant ring thingy.
"Come on, Rey! Get the bird," Heath said. wigging the feather wand in the middle of the first hoop. He watched with a smile as the little gray cat cleared the first hoop, but his expression changed at the sight of the next one. The second hoop was a lot higher than the first, and Rey was small for her age. Maybe it was too high for her? Oh, well, only one way to find out, he supposed.
"Good job!" he said, giving Rey a treat for her efforts so far. "Want to go again?" He jiggled the toy in the center of the second hoop, waiting to see what Rey would do next.
Silly hooman, of course she was going to get the birb! What else do you do with a birb? Rey leapt after the clump of feathers, sailing gracefully through the hoop and landing on her feet. She blinked, looking around. Hey, where's the -?
TREAT!!!!! She greedily gobbled up the morsel her hooman gave her. Mmm… yummy fish! Can I haz more plz?
Look, there's the birb again! Gonna get you this time! Rey jumped again, but she felt herself losing air before she reached the hole in the round thingy. Noooooo! She tried to claw the bottom of the hoop, but it was too late to stop herself from falling. You're not getting away that easily, birb! She tried again, and again she fell short of the hoop.
After several tries, Rey plopped down defiantly in front of the hoop. Nope, too high! You win this round, birb.
Heath frowned. It looked like the second hoop was too high for his hyper little Jedi cat after all! "It's okay, Rey. Try again," he encouraged, wiggling the feather wand, but he knew his cat well enough to know she was done. So now what? Should he keep trying to coax her through the hoop or move on to the next obstacle?

Tentatively, Kitt spared a look at his housemate. It was right in time to see him stuffing his wand away but THEN the wand went FLYING. Was he the only one who saw? Was it the professor? He’d gone kinda hard on that “nope”. That was a “not today Satan” nope. The kind that said you were about to ruin someone’s entire career. It’d have been an awful dramatic nope if he wasn’t the one who did that follow through and somehow Kitt didn’t think Professor Williamson was a disappointing man.
And you know what, he appreciated that if push came to shove, Noah wouldn’t let him fall on a sword for him. What a guy.
Confirmation re the wand came seconds later when Williamson explained he had Noah’s wand. Remind him....never to use his in CoMC. Just in case.
Kitt took the treats offered to him, whirling around to properly face the professor when he then suggested treats. He was all beams because the professor was suggesting what he had which preeeeetty much meant it was a foolproof plan. “That was my idea!” He beamed, raising the treats Noah had just given him for the man to see.
Except, they were now running out of time. “Let’s drop the treats quick!” Kitt lowered Sparky to the ground then hurried off to start planting some of the treats about the course, expecting Noah would be doing the same. Once done, he got back to the starting point ready to beg—
“Have you seen Sparky?” Where had that little guy gotten off to? He was BARELY gone a minute.
This tomfoolery had gone on long enough. This regal feline was done being suddenly whirled around, picked up and put down, moved about like furniture. Yes, he was quite done and ready for his nap.
The moment he was set down, he made his way back to the Williamson fellow’s legs, plopped himself down and curled right up. Find a new feline, this one was DONE.
Aslan could tell that the young human was upset. If he could have frowned, he would have so instead he just let out a sigh. Well at least his new human's stopped sweating as much after what the Professor told him. He brushed himself up against Noah's leg and let out a purr, trying to inform the kid that everything would be alright. Aslan would still be his friend. And because he felt bad- he may even offer to play dead, y'know? Maybe just once for the two humans. Now... Sparky had been awfully quiet? He watched the other boy (Kitt) plop Sparky Spark Boom Boom (he was living for this kneazle's new nickname btw) and then saw him make a beeline for Williamson. Uh oh.... Sparky wasn't impressed.
Noah felt his heart racing as the Professor called out to them. OH MERLIN. He glanced down, looking a little disappointed himself for a moment, before one of the phrases Williamson said resonated with him. RIGHT. They had wasted four minutes already. He leaned over to Kitt. "I'm just going to start leaving the wand in the dorm before coming to this class," he nodded. Yep. Didn't want to make a whole scene again.
Treats! Yep. Noah was on it. He headed to a different area of the obstacle course, following Kitt's lead. Once said treats were laid out, he checked his watch as he walked back to Kitt. Right- they had time. "Hey Aslan. You ready?" he called out to the kneazle that had practically been following him around the entire time he was laying treats. Noah had to distract him by giving him treats so he wouldn't go gobble up the obstacle course. Huh? Sparky was gone? Noah turned to Kitt after he asked the question and then glanced around the course. "I don't...." Eyes still scanning. AHA! "He's by Williamson. He doesn't look too impressed with us. Should we try to coax him back?" he asked, not knowing if the kneazle would even consider coming back to them. He turned to Aslan. "Aslan?"
Aslan had indeed been following this human around the obstacle course happily trying to figure out what he was doing. Part of him followed because he found the human intriguing and the other part followed him cause he wanted to make sure he was fine after the interaction with the Professor. He followed the trail of treats and was even rewarded with more treats for not eating them so he really liked this human. When they returned back to the other human, Aslan was ready for whatever task they had against them now except he wasn't looking forward to the whole persuading Sparky Spark over there. So when Noah looked at him with those pleading eyes, he huffed. Okay... Fine... Maybe he'd go talk to Sparky for them. But if he did so, he wasn't playing dead?
With all hope seeming lost, Ewan turned towards the voice of someone next to him offering to help him (Drew). Flashing them a smile, he simply nodded sheepishly ”Sure, I don’t think this guy” he jabbed at the cat playfully now with the feathery toy on a bit of wire ”is going to move but you’re more than welcome to try”. Working together seemed like the best option. If both of them couldn’t do it then no one could.
The black Kneazle just continued to lay there on it’s back, expecting tummy scratches, only barely aware of the fluffy thing that was floating around its peripheral vision.
”Come on Professor” he replied now as he looked at both of their cats, half exasperated, half amused. ”I mean, i’m sure they’d move if we left a line of treats across the whole course but I’m not sure how fast our time would be” he replied now, only joking obviously.
”So, do you think maybe we should focus on one of them? I think if we can get one of them around, it would be a huge victory. I mean, look at them” half laughing now at their current situation. But, he did at least have an idea to sort of get them up and going. Using the summoning charm, he quickly whizzed two of the small mouse shaped treats over that the professor had left out. ”What if we use the Locomotion charm and get them to chase two of the mice around the course? Think they’ll move for that?”. He wasn’t sure that anything would get the cats going but surely something in their DNA would force them to get up and chance a mouse?
Eyes a little more aware, the Kneazle eyed both of the both with a discerning gaze, curious what was going on. There were two of them now and not one of them was paying it any attention at the moment. That had to stop. Getting up slowly, the black Kneazle made its way over, nuzzling its head into the legs of one of the boys, its eyes screaming GIVE ME ATTENTION HUMAN!
"Yeah mine doesn't want to seem to move either." He flashed his Kneazle a filthy look. Not only was it being lazy on purpose but now they were being chastised by the Professor. "The name is Drew by the way." Introductions should probably need to be made seeing how they were about to work together.
Berlioz was a smart Kneazle and he WAS being lazy on purpose. It was amusing to watch the humans try and get him to do something that he clearly was not in the mood for. Although his ears did prick up when he heard the word treat from the other human. Maybe they were onto something?
Drew had to admit that the Ravenclaw had a very good idea. Probably why he was in Ravenclaw. "Yeah let's do that." Anything was better than nothing besides he had a feeling this was going to work. "Oh and we should..." he put his hand in his pocket and pulled out the treat that the Professor had given him before. He broke it in half and then tied a piece to each of the toy mice..."give them a little more incentive." He grinned at the other boy. "Okay cast the spell."
Now they were talking, Berlioz immediately sprang to his feet the moment he smelled the treat. He was ready!
She couldn't help the shocked outburst when he said about the professor having work done. She hadn't even got to answer him about him being mum's teacher when she heard that she froze. Shaking her head she just looked forward again hoping that the professor wouldn't be too upset. She watched as Teacup took the treat and gobbled it up with a small smile she scratched behind the feline's ears.
Once the professor started to speak again and talk about what they were going to do she just looked at Teacup and wondered if she would actually do the task or not. Her cat wasn't one to actually listen most days. "What do you think? Can we do this?"
Teacup just looked up at her and headed towards Ewan and Drew to see what their animals were doing. She gave them both a hiss to let them know she was boss and then starred from a bit of a distance.
"For Merlin's sake Teacup." She walked over and scooped up her cat, "Sorry, she likes to be in charge." Giving a Ewan a look knowing he knew what Teacup like, but oh, hello seventh year Gryffindor she didn't know. She pulled her hair back over her shoulder and smiled. "Didn't mean to interrupt you two. Are.. are you doing well with your cats? Any advice for a stubborn one?" Giving Ewan a look like, introduce please...
This was not what Teacup had in mind she scratched her humans are to be put down before taking off towards the professor.
"Teacup, come on..."

With his wand out ready, he was about to cast the locomotive spell when a small little cat decided to stroll over in between his legs. He knew that cat having seen it many times before and sure enough, the blonde head of his friend Chloe wasn’t far behind. ”Heeey teacup”, an amused grin crossed his features for a moment. He was about to say that he didn’t mind the interruption at all when Chloe gave him a weird look. ”Uhh…Drew, this is Chloe. Chloe, this is Drew. And I’m Ewan” he couldn’t help but laugh a little at the fact that he was in fact Drew’s partner but was the last to be introduced. His own fault obviously. ”How’s Teacup doing?” he replied with a friendly smile, although, he got his answer as the cat maneuvered away towards the professor.
Focusing on the lesson at hand now, Ewan turned towards Drew and the two kneazles near them. He’d have more than enough time to think about Chloe and whatever that look was outside of the lesson. ”That’s a great idea man. The cats will love it” he replied as Drew tied the piece of treat to the little mouse.
Oh? Another cat here now? Well, wasn’t that just lovely. Well it could just leave. This mouse is mine. Can’t you see? The Kneazle moved closer to the mouse, curious to see where it was about to make its escape. It was no match for it
Eyes on the Kneazle, Ewan raised his wand ”Locomotor” and with that, the mouse started to move towards the obstacle course and to his surprise, so did his Kneazle! Up and down the ramp the mouse and treat went and with it, the jet black Kneazle that had once been lazy!
You are no match for me little mouse! This school is my house and you will be mine! Oh I can’t wait to taste you, I’m sure you’ll taste fine. The mouse and treat had clearly offended the large Kneazle because he was now moving at an alarming pace around the track. Through the ring, up and down the various ramps and balance beams until finally…VICTORY!
With a small fist pump, Ewan just turned towards Drew with a grin as the Kneazle crossed the finish line and had finally caught up to the mouse, happy that they’d somehow both managed to come up with an idea that worked! Now, to wait and see if Drew’s cat would do the same, although, he looked as though he was more than ready. He really wasn't sure how quick his kneazle had done it in but it looked fairly quick. Either way, he was more happy that it had moved.
Hmm a locomotive spell. This was new. Chloe was nothing different.
Vivienne started to pay attention to the professor. Social life came after academics. Was she gonna be an Auror like her parents or not? Cats were something else.
Vivienne drew her wand, closed her eyes and said "Locomotor!" And off it went! and ZOOM!
She couldn't help the shocked outburst when he said about the professor having work done. She hadn't even got to answer him about him being mum's teacher when she heard that she froze. Hopefully this idea was going to work because if it didn't he really had no idea what else he was going to do to get his Kneazle going and apparently the Professor was relying on the two seventh years to show everyone else how it was done. Drew didn't even notice the tiny cat but he did notice the cat's owner, how could he not when she was totally gorgeous. He momentarily forgot about what he was supposed to be doing, pretty girls always seemed to have that effected on him especially ones that were clearly showing an interest in him.
It wasn't until the Ravenclaw boy spoke again that Drew remembered where he was and what he was supposed to be doing. "Nice to meet you Ewan and Chloe." He gave the girl a smile and a wink. "We're having the same trouble with our Kneazles." As much as he would like to help her out their Kneazles were just as stubborn.
Tearing his eyes off of Chloe, Drew turned just in time to see Ewan's Kneazle streak off after the mouse. Oh man, he really needed to getting distracted by girls. He pointed his wand at the toy mouse seconds after Ewan, "Locomotor."
The moment the mouse took off with that yummy cat treat , Berlioz sprang into action, he ran up one end of the see-saw and then down the other, he jumped over the hurdles and through the hoops, dodging through the poles and then up and over the beam before landing on top of the mouse and ripping off the cat treat. Yum.
Drew turned to Ewan and laughed. "Food is always the motivator." Thankfully that was over and was reasonably successful.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Aslan was an ace model of what a kneazle should be. He followed you around, responded when spoken to, and was all around a decent bloke—for a kneazle. Could they both coax Aslan through the course? They didn’t have much time left and Sparky had pulled a Houdini—by the Professor? What was he doing over there?
“Thanks, mate!”
Kitt moved over to where the professor stood, paying very little attention to his surroundings beyond the cat...er....kneazle. “Silly goose, it’s not nap time. Come on, we’ve got a course to run.” The Gryffindor reached down to grab the ball of fur but was met with more resistance than he anticipated.
“Come on, Spark. Don’t be like this.”
He....was not a goose. And for the millionth time, his name was not Sparky. The kneazle struggled against the boy, displeased with the attempts at dislodging him. He gave a plaintive meow, wishing Williamson would get this monster off him so he could return to his sleep.
When the boy began tugging harder, he latched onto Williamson’s leg instead and continued to meow his discontent. What abominable act had he done to deserve this? Surely there were better ways to atone.
Kitt turned to Noah again, at a loss of what else to do. “He’s stuck pretty tight. Now what?”

Blake had discovered that treat seems to be the way to go with this little guy. It was interesting to watch, really Blake wasn't so different than a kneazle a pumpkin pasty could get him today just about anything. Blake pulled a few more treats out of his pocket and began to lead the kneazle further down the obstacle course.
This boy was fun ... he head treats ... even if it mean running around a maze of sorts, I love treats ... treat treat treats ...

Beans was ALL about that sock. It smelled like the warm spot under the bed where she slept, and it was waving around with little fringy bits and a hole she'd bitten there herself during some other playing session. It was a pleasure to hunt that sock through a swinging tire and over a ramp and arouuuuuuuuund some flags.
C'mere, sock. Lemme eat you.
"You are the very best kitty that I have ever met," Phoebe crooned at Beans as they made their way through the course. Ironic that the kitty preferred playing with worn socks over pretty much any other toy. The feathers and the toys and the fuzzy mice were fine, but nothing held her attention like that sock.
Over the last little hurdle, and they made it to the finish line. "That's how you do it, best cat ever. Good work. Lemme at that belly for scritchy scratches." Phoebe dropped to her knees and gave Beans all the love she could handle.

Kitt turned to Noah again, at a loss of what else to do. “He’s stuck pretty tight. Now what?”
Noah paused, watching the interaction between Kitt and Sparky with genuine interest. It was interesting to see that the kneazle was not pleased with Kitt. Huh... Was it something with how the boy was addressing him? He paused. No that didn't seem right... Tone of voice? No... He ran threw a series of ideas before pausing on one. It was a long shot. "Maybe you offended him somehow?" he proposed. Maybe it was the name or the being picked up and down constantly? Or them-- well him causing a kerfuffle.... Maybe this kneazle was FELINE ROYALTY? But then maybe they were wasting time thinking through how to get the kneazle off of the Professor. The struggle was real.
Aslan was watching the situation with keen eyes. It was interesting to see the human desperately try coax his fellow feline from being wrapped around Professor Williamson's legs. He huffed, glancing at Sparky. If Sparky was going to have a fit, then Aslan was going to help out this young boys. Yep. He was taking one for the team. "Hey... You know.. they're kids right... Basically kittens and all... He probably doesn't know how to treat true royalty like you or I..." he tried, meowing at the other cat. "If we work together, we could show every other kneazle that they don't stand a chance." He doubted Sparky here would even budge with that so he turned around and headed to the front of the obstacle course. Then he meowed at the two boys letting him know that he was ready.
"Should we get another kneazle to replace his royal grumpiness?" he said motioning to grumpy cat over here.
FISH fish fish sniiiiiiifffff meat meat those smells tantalized Kasha's whiskered nose as she followed the human along the path.
Islay was standing the by the jump, moving her arms in an arch - as if indicating to jump. "C'mon jump kasha" she coaxed, speaking softly, trying to see if it would work. It didn't.
Taking a treat she tossed it through the ring.
Kasha sat, watched the treat fall and simply stood, flicked her tail walked over to where it had landed. I HAVE TREAT NOW ?
Islay had quickly swiped it off the ground eliciting a hiss from Kasha as she took the treat she made a circle around the hoop - Kasha slowly followed it with her head not moving her body and inch....then in a brilliant moment she placed the treat on the inside of the ring and watched as Kasha lept up and ate it and proceeded to just perch there - all content.

Carwyn was sure that time was moving slower in his animagus form than it would have done had he been able to talk to William, but that was okay. The kids and their respective animals were, he was sorry to admit, giving him plenty of entertainment while he sat up on his perch watching them all with their Professor. It wasn’t his class, so he didn’t need to comment or help in any major way… though if any of the kneazles or kittens looked like they were getting out of hand he wouldn’t hesitate to drop in and help out.
Unless he was running that course… which, was it his turn yet??
He counted the students that were still to attempt the course and huffed slightly as he waited. Although he wanted to go now, it truly was interesting getting to watch his own students in a class that wasn’t his own. Fascinating. Silently, he wondered how they fared across the subjects and pondered if a cross-communication type strategy would help some students to flourish… or if they would simply feel the pressure too much. Hmm. Curious.
Looking over at the queue and the small number of students left to run the course, Carwyn moved lazily onto all four black greying socked paws and stretched his back. He curved and arched and flicked his tail lazily as he yawned and looked up to the sky. Hmm, he always stretched better as a fox. Not as much cracking joints.

When the last student finished, William gave the Transfiguration Professor the cue he had been waiting for. Jumping down from the hay bale, the artic fox landed easily on four paws and leaped over to the starting point, before quickly checking over his back to William to make sure that he was ready. 3, 2, 1- GO!
AND he was off!
He followed a route around the course he had seen a few students take, jumping through the hoop first. The white and black-turning-silver fox darted through the poles, weaving this way and that as he moved before finishing the run with a quick leap over the jump at the end . How fun was this!! Circling back on himself, he jumped over the second and third jumps (that were higher and therefore so much more fun) before it was time to run over the thin beam. This was fine! It reminded him of walking around the fences around their garden when he had been out running at night.
Honestly, he wasn’t sure what the next platform was for so he simply jumped over it and turned around to jump through the tall hoop that he had watched a lot of the students use with their toy mice and treats to tempt their creatures. Finally, he was almost there! He could see the finish line! The see-saw was the last thing to use and it was one of the best things here! With perfect balance, the fox jumped and landed 1/4 of the way up the beam and walked closer to the middle before jumping up the beam to tip it downwards again.
Heh. That had been fun. He pounce!leaped a few times over the grass towards Professor Williamson again and when he got there, skidded to a simple stop to the man's right. Moving around in a circle on the spot, the fox faced everyone and then quick-as-a-flash- turned back into their Transfiguration Professor.
Surprise! Heh. A few of the older students had seen him in his form last year, however other than going for runs around the lake it wasn’t something he usually made a priority… but a summer of playing with his young great-grand daughters had made him realise just how much fun he could have as a fox. Mmmhmmm. Grinning widely, Carwyn waved at the students before he rolled up his shirt sleeves to his elbows and picked up the bottle of water William had so kindly provided for him.
Then he simply leant against the hay bales and let Professor Williamson continue.

Trying to push past the paranoia of sneezing some more, she smiled as Nina returned with some toys.
The toys, which the kitty clearly LOVED. BECAUSE OOOOOOO WHATS THAT? Wiggling his paw at it, he tried grabbing it - before leaping at Nina’s robes and meowing loud. GIMME GIMMMEEEEE.
WELP.
Missa almost laughed, but it come out as another sneeze. Oh merlin.
“Sorry, sorry - looks like this is working though” she quickly said, picking up the other toy and daaangling it too in front of the little one. “Come on, lets gooo, come on now” she cooed - while walking backwards and leading him through the obstacle course.
Hopefully Eiji was watching.
UP AND DOWN, let me have it, let me have it - the cat rolled and jumped, absolutely LOVING his human persons. Meowing and while going round and round their feet he moved - almost making one of them fall too.
Nina normally would have jumped away from the title kneazle, but…. She had to admit…. He was kind of cute? Okay fine. He could paw at her. As long as he didn’t SCRATCH because these robes had to last for the rest of the term. ”Bless you,” she looked over at Missa, tilting her head for a moment. Was she allergic?
Either way, there wasn’t a lot of time to waste. Nina followed Missa (who was doing a phenomenal job with their gray kneazle, by the way). Once they reached the obstacle course, Nina took the lead (seeing as she had let Missa do all the work in getting the cat to follow them there in the first place). The Slytherin dangled the toy over his wittle head and then picked up speed! The first obstacle was a hoop.
UP AND DOWN. Feathers are miiiiiiiiiine. Give me the feaaaaaaaathers!!! UP UP UP. Through the hoop and back onto feetsies! GIVE ME THE FEATHERS. I wants them. Pweaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeee.
Nina looked up at her partner, quite pleased! That worked! ... Was that a fox.....? Professor Eris? She blinked a few times motioning her head in that direction as if asking Missa. But she immediately drew her attention back to their cat who was LEAPING for the feathers. No. Not yet. There was still more of the course to run. With a quick nod to Missa, Nina began bobbing the toy up and down through the next obstacle. Zig-zags.
Almost hads. I wants. Gimme gimme gimmeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Imagine brazenly using magic in a no magic activity, and a prefect too? Tsk tsk. Nem would never. Not in blatant sight of a professor, at least. And yet, that worked out nicely; good opportunity to see how he dealt with all that, without Nem getting their own hands dirty.
For the record, Nem was in no rush to do this, regardless of if it was being timed. They just ambled alongside the obstacle course, setting down treats along the way for the kneazle (who had been set down at the very start and was now inching through the course, one treat at a time). The slalom was entertaining; waving a treat around and baiting the creature through the poles as though it was hypnotised.
Food as motivation. You could apply to to practically every creature, including humans, and excluding (for example) knarls. Maybe even knarls could be bribed, once used to the owner. Nem didn't know. They'd never checked. And weren't interested in looking it up.
They'd reached a hoop, which was a little more difficult to bribe the kneazle through. If it had any brains, just setting the treat on the floor might make it circumvent the hoop entirely. Refusing to jump through hoops; Nem could relate. But as it was sort of necessary, they stood on the other side and held up the treat. And waited.
This kneazle was getting fuller and fuller, and also slightly nauseous, but was also still hungry. Treats. Who could say no to TREATS? No feline with sense, that's who. And this feline had sense.
So it POUNCED through the hoop to get that next one... and missed... because it was yanked out of the way at the last moment. Before he could make his displeasure known, however, a treat was dropped right in front of his paws, and he gobbled that one up too.
That was easily the hardest part, and it was a cinch. The rest was a breeze, completed in exactly the same way. Sure, Nem hadn't managed the course very quickly at all, but they didn't care about that. Got the kneazle through, didn't they? Hadn't been hissed at and scratched and fled from, had they? It was easily a win.
"Slow and steady." Might not exactly win the race, but got the job done.

Streaky, an orange tabby cat that Zach had befriended in a midwestern American town, peeked it's head out of the hat after the boy tapped it with his wand. With a tiny rune charm on it's collar that glistened in the sun, the small creature playfully batted at the wand before leaping from the hat, and landing on the ground with a stretch.
"Uh...Think it wouldn't be a problem?" Zach motioned towards the obstacle course, folding his hat back flat once more. He knew the cat was lazy, but could be quite impressive when it wanted to be. Streaky must have took pity on the young boy, because the feline took off like a, uh, streak.
Zipping through the course, Streaky exhibited an exceptional amount of focus and finesse. Coming upon a small hurtle, something entered the feline's field of vision. A bird. And with what needed a small hop, the cat leaped, and when the cat leaped it jumped, and when it jumped it flew.
"Sir. Uh. my cat..My cat flew..away.." Dang.
William had been busy checking on the cats in the crate behind him, and so he really hadn't seen the Hufflepuff with the collapsible hat and the magic cat that was apparently inside it.
"No it didn't," he answered the kid without turning around from the crate. SOMEONE was ready to come out and plaaaaaaaaaay.... "Cats don't fly. And don't levitate it, either. I already said no magic today."

It certainly wasn't a nagging enough doubt to stop him from closing down those last few paces to snatch up the treat, however. Omnomnom.
Nem glanced across as Blaze got to her feet and headed off. Luck? Not a real thing, but the sentiment was understood. "You too, Claudine." It was at that point that they noticed the fox over by the way, and an arctic one at that, which obviously had no business being here. Giving a fairly obvious eye roll, Nem turned back to the kneazle.
It had polished off that treat in seconds, and was now looking expectantly at Nem for more. That worked out just fine. Shoutout to Williamson for laying the groundwork for bribery.
"C'mon," they said, and scooped the fluffy grey kneazle up into their arms, stopping by the spilled cat paraphernalia to collect something before heading towards the obstacle course.
Wait.
Hold on.
Wait.
Wait.
The kneazle stiffened, unsure what to make of this. Did something about this just feel strange, or was the blackbird he'd scarfed down for breakfast this morning just repeating on him? No... maybe something really was-...
Hold that thought; were those more treats?
PURRRRRRRRRRR.

Looked like Nem was getting on fine with his kneazle, Williamson was happy to see. Would they be starting the course today, or...? He tapped his watch to encourage the Slytherin along, but it definitely didn't seem to have an effect on Nem's kneazle..... finally, though, FINALLY they seemed to cross the finish line, and Williamson gave the Slytherin and his companion a long, slow clap. "Good persistence." Sure sure.

Speaking of which, he'd spent the first portion of this lesson just.... getting to KNOW his kneazle buddy. Just.... hanging out. Chilling. Letting others go first in their obstacle attempts. Were they supposed to name-- yes? Because he couldn't see a name tag. Well! "Cabriole, are you ready?" Yes he had picked a ballet term. Or you know, a furniture leg term, depending on your perspective. Flynn snuggled the kneazle a bit more and grabbed one of the dangling dazzler toys with the fuzzy fluffy bright feathers on the end of a string that was in turn tied to a stick, and headed to the start line.
Cabriole? Oh this little kneazle had been called worse, and as if to show he didn't mind this particular moniker at all, he capered enthusiastically and then purrhurrumphed for more attention and nuzzles and scritches and really, he DID like these cuddles. Oh wait, what was he supposed to be ready for? What was he--A BIRD! FEATHERS! SWAT SWAT.
Flynn figured it would be hard enough to do this on his own and he wanted to give Cabriole all of his attention anyway so the third year opted for working just on his own this time around. And good! It looked like he picked the right toy! And.... GO! He dazzled the dazzler ahead of the kneazle and laughed in delight as Cabriole almost immediately POUNCED toward it. Flynn danced it out of the way and towards the first obstacle. "Come on Cabriole!"
Hoop! Hoop! Jump! Weave! Ramp! Jump! Balance beam! Jump! Hoop! Seesaw! Was it that easy? Nope. Not really, but Flynn was having a blast all the same, coaxing the kneazle through every single obstacle with a bounce of the dazzler, and a lot of determination. He figured, if Cabriole DIDN'T wanna do it, then he just wouldn't. That would be okay, he'd just pick the Kneazle up and carry him through it, but this WAS more fun. Also he wasn't sure if he could actually fit through those hoops himself? His shoulders were doing that growing thing and it was weird because his brain hadn't caught up so much and he often underestimated the amount of space he would take up in the world and could definitely not wriggle into small nooks and crannies anymore.
Finish line! Flynn dazzled the dazzler some more. "Come on Cabriole! Nearly there!" And...... done! He scooped the kneazle up as soon as they crossed over the finish line and snuggled him. So cute. "You did a great job! So clever! So fast!" He let Cabriole worry at the end of the dazzler, his prey finally caught.
Yissssss! He was the BEST hunter in ALL the land!
Look at that! A speedy Hufflepuff giving Blaze a run for her money. Williamson jotted down SEVERAL notes on Flynn and Cabby--- Capri--- Casserole--- er, how did you spell that? Whatever the cat's name was? He also clapped, loudly, at their completion of the course. Well done, and in good time.

SEE! This was why HE was the Professor, and she was just a student. Who would've thought getting a cat to run an obstacle course would be as EASY as standing him up!? Professor Williamson received a two-eyed wink and a finger point in his direction before all of her attention was back to her cat. They could do this. They HAD to do this. She didn't even care if it would take her the rest of the day!
Okay. She might've cared about that a little bit. But she doubted the Professor would really make her stay until the course was obstacled. He did know she was working with a broken cat, after all.
Flora bent down, ever so close to Catastrophe, and after pushing in his bleped tongue, because it looked heavy and would just slow him down even more if that was possible, she stood him up on all fours. He was wobbly. He was very wobbly, but standing he was and that's all that mattered. Now to get him to actually move.
Blep. Blep. No more blep. Up on legs. Wobble wobble. One step two step.
He. Was. Doing. IT!
Catastrophe was actually doing it. HE WAS WALKING! Flora was amazed. Flora was shocked. Flora was ASTONISHED! She was almost tempted to call Williamson over to show him that her broken cat was broken no more, but she was too in the moment and wasn't exactly sure just how long the cat's walking was going to last.
"Never underestimate a broken cat!" They were just going to walk the perimeter of the obstacle course. She doubted Merlin himself could get Catastrophe to jump through a hoop.
Blep. And the tongue was back out.
First years.... oh, first years. William let out a soft sigh as he watched this one, slightly amazed to see her pick up the cat AND get it to start walking. No--- oh, well, you weren't supposed to just walk around the obstacle course, but you know what? Whatever worked.

"Come on Elena!" he called behind him as he started to slowly walk towards the starting line. Only Elena wasn’t coming she had curled up in an orange ball on to top of the haybale.
It was warm and comfy here where her hooman had sat and she wasn’t going to move. After scratching a little with her paws on the hay, Elena closed her eyes to go to sleep even if it was hard in this racket of voices.
Cole had almost come to the starting line when he realized that Elena wasn’t with him. Looking behind him, he saw her lying on the hay bale contentedly. With a small sigh he walked back to her, stopping to fill his left pocket with treats and the other with some different toys. Lastly he chose a harness before going back to his cat. At Elenas side he carefully started to put the harness on around her neck and stomach. With it safely set Cole pulled out a tuna treat that he dangled in front of her nose. "Come on Elena, let’s go race!"
Elena felt how her hooman fastened something around her neck and stomach, but she didn’t move. She was trying to sleep. The smell of TUNA though caught her full interest. Lifting her head up, quick as a bolt, she sniffed the air. Where was the juicy tuna? Straightening up on all fours, she reluctantly jumped down from the bale and followed after her hooman.
At the starting line Cole leaned down to give Elena her tuna treat. "Here, can you help me score the best time now? It will be fun. I promise." Pulling out a big cat toy that hang from a fishing stick and to Cole’s ears didn’t smell totally awful he coaxed with it. "Let’s go Elena!"
Tuuuuuuuuuuna, yummy. Licking her mouth with her tongue in satisfaction Elena, looked around for more tasty treats. None were in sight, but there was a rat on stick. She didn’t like toys on sticks but her hooman didn’t know that. She followed him though towards the hoops.
"Jump through the hoops Elena, Come on!" Cole encouraged as he jangled with the rat stick and also pulled out another tuna treat that he waved around with. Anything to get her running.
Elena jumped through the first hoop without effort and saw Cole running beside her and then she suddenly skidded to halt in front of the black hoop and didn’t budge an inch.
Cole muttered something unhearable as he approached his cat, trying to discern why she had stopped. Leaning down to scratch her behind her ears, he heard some content purring. "Just one more hoop Elena then we are free of them."
Elena, kept purring for a little while before she jumped through the hoop and continued to run over the seesaws beams without needing Cole’s encouraging or coaxing. Was it too much to ask for some show of appreciation like a scratch or a tuna treat along the way? Falling down on her side for more hooman attention.
"That was awesome Elena!" Cole said with delight and equal happiness as he sat down on the grass to scratch Elena on her belly, knowing full well that it was a risk that he’d get bitten. Throwing her a treat or two he asked "Wasn’t this fun? Shall we complete the course now?"
Meowing Elena tried to bite onto Cole’s hand, but she kept missing it. The treats distracted her. Munching on the delicious tuna, she had snatched Elena decided to give into her dear hoomans wishes. She could be a good cat and complete the last hurdles. Straightening up, she was ready to get going.
Cole got the hint and with the rat toy he demonstrated. “You have to weave through next these hurdles, like in zig-zag motion….” Waving with the toy stick his cat got moving.
What was the hooman wanting her to do with the sticks? She was a CAT not an alpine skiier. Elena got busy licking her paws until that toy got waved in front of her nose again. It smelled so nice so Elena got moving elegantly through the stickiesss. Weave, Weave, Weave.
"Perfect! We’re done Elena!"Cole cried out happily, as they had completed the course and he could scoop up his cat into his arms to give her a large hug and some well deserved scratching. Remembering the treats in his pockets, he pulled out a handful that he held out to her.
Elena, was in heaven. She got to be cuddled and got treats after completing a course. No other cat had it much better.
"Well done," William also clapped for Cole and Elena upon their completion of the course. He marked down a few notes about how effective his strategy of explaining the course to Elena was, as well as their time.

Think, Lukas, think.
Thierry closed his eyes. He may very well take a nap. Yes, a nap right here on the grass sounded nice. Sleeeeeeeeep.
Oh, come on! Lukas breathed out a soft sigh. His kneazle was napping. Now. This wasn't playing out like he had hoped. Turning the ball with the bell inside over in his hand he remembered something. Treats. He had put treats in his pocket. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the small amount of treats. He broke them each in half and stuck a few pieces through the slots of the toy ball, shaking it to make sure the treats wouldn't fall out easily. The rest of the treats he kept in his closed fist.
"Heyyyyy Thierry, look what I have..." he walked over to the kneazle and knelt down. "Here you go, boy. This is for you." Laying a bit of a treat at the kneazle's paws. Hopefully this would work.
Sniiiiiiiiiff. What was that? Smell good. A treat? Yes, he would like a treat. Good, human giving him treats! Bright icy blue eyes opened up and before the human could blink that treat was gobbled right up. More pleeeeeeease.
It worked! Sort of. Thierry was awake so it was a start. "Want some more? I have more right here. See?" Lukas opened his hand up so Thierry could see and smell the treats he was holding. "You can have them if you follow me. Or... " Pause. Jingles the ball with the bell and treats inside. "If you can get this you can have what's inside." Hopefully that was incentive enough to get him moving. "Come on now..." He rose to his feet, holding the toy down low and jingling it again as he moved towards the obstacle course.
Mooooore treats. Hey, hey, come back here little human. Where was he going with those treats. Could smell them. Treats were yummy. Wanted more. Follow the human for treats. Yes, yes can do that. First must stretccccccch his paws and yawwwwwwn. One his paws he moved after the treats!
Lukas grinned widely. Thierry was following him! Progress was being made. "That's right. Come get the yummy treats." Jingling the ball in his hand letting Thierry sniff the treats when he got close. "Here we go, Thierry, up the ramp you go." The Ravenclaw jogged alongside the ramp keeping the toy a few inches in front of the kneazle the entire time. "Awesome! This way." Onto to the area where they had to weave around pole things. Yes, he did weave his way through it in front of Thierry praising the kneazle the entire time. Seesaw, uhhhhh, alright. He moved to a faster jog alongside the seesaw, they wouldn't fit on it together and he wasn't about to run over it ahead of the kneazle and cause an accident! Luckily Thierry followed those treats really well!
Sniff. Sniff. Yummy. Treats were close. Up this thing, then down. Back and forth following the human with yummies. Want yummies. Upppp seesaw annnnd whoa! it went down!.. leaps off swatting at the toy that human held. Treats still there...
"We're almost there and these are all yours!" Lukas jumped over the low hurdle followed closely by the kneazle. Ummmm... Hoops?! Quickening his jog he ran to the other side of the hoop dangling and jingling the toy through the hoop so Thierry would leap through each one. When they reached the final one, Lukas tossed the toy through the hoop and watched it hit the grass and roll a few feet. "Get it, Thierry!"
Leap, leap, leeeeeap! Tired. No mo- What happened?! His treeeeats! Right through that hoop he went darting after that toy and batting it around with his paw when he reached it. Picking it up in his mouth. The prize was hiss.
They did it! Well Thierry did it. Whatever. All that mattered was they were done! Grinning brightly, he walked over to his kneazle and scooped him up into his arms. "These are for you. You earned them." He opened his hand offering the few small bits of treats.
He was being lifted. Ooooh! Treeeeats! Yeeeees.
Lukas could handle it, huh? Williamson was amused at first, but it did look like Lukas was doing a decent job of enticing his kneazle to complete the course. He gave the Ravenclaw a thumb's up when he was finished and quickly wrote his time down on his clipboard.

Tom turned back towards the kneazle and smiled politely at it. "If you want to do the course then we'll do it." He then waited to see what the Kneazle would do. He just watched and waited seriously why couldn't Kneazles or Cats speak?
This kid.... what was he going to do with him?
Williamson sighed again and but didn't say anything else to Tom. If he wanted to complete the course and earn full marks for this class, he would. Otherwise... well, it was Gryffindor's loss.

The human was finally catching on and Mate's tail was high, his belly about to be happy with the treats he was being given. He hadn't even had to lift a paw. Humans were easy, especially the small ones. He om nom nommed, head bowed, paying the girl child no mind now that he had what he'd wanted all along.
Sneaking off down to the end of the course, Cecelia hid behind one of the obstacles and sloooooowly moved one of the toy mouses into Mate's line of sight. She waited a moment, and then wiggled it some, and then pulled it back. "Come on, Mate. Come get the mouse." She repeated the action, leaving the mouse out in the open for a few more seconds this time...and continued this, trying to tempt the kneazle to come to her.
Wait, where had the child gone? He was done with this game and would very much like to go back to his home now. She needed to stop with this-oh. Hello little intruder. Ears pointed forward, Mate watched, his nose sniff sniff sniffing. He didn't smell anything different, but the movement held his interest.
Mate padded forward, lurking towards the mouse. A few steps and he'd stop, and watch, and wait, then a few more.
When he was close enough, tail flicking, back arching, body ready, Mate POUNCED, right on over the finish line.
"Well done, Cece," Williamson congratulated Ella's daughter as she finally got Mate to cooperate and cross the finish line. And with an alright time, too!

Benjie followed Naya all the way to the start of the obstacle course and sat down. He was going to require a little something in the way of motivation, if she wanted him to continue on this journey
Naya should have known that it was not going to be that easy. It looked as if her kneazle had a change of heart. Focusing on the positive and not the negative, she pulled out a treat and gave it to Benjie. “Good job”, Naya said while giving him a head scratch. “I have plenty more where that came from, but you are going to have to earn your treats. I know you can do it.” Glancing at the course, Naya suddenly didn’t feel quite as confident. Benjie didn’t need to know that though.
Naya went on the other side of the first hoop and called to the kneazle. “Come on Benjie. I need you to jump through the hoop. Come on. You can do it. Naya retrieved another treat and held it in front of the hoop.
Benjie was enjoying his treat, taking his time to savor every bit of it. He looked up at Naya with an eager face. More. More treats please. Why wasn’t the girl giving him more? He said please. Why was she leaving him and standing by that round thing? Surely she didn’t want him to...... No. He didn’t want a treat that badly. Yes he did. Lucky for her, Benjie was a sucker for kneazle treats. Instead of jumping, he decided to go for plan B. Benjie walked around the hoop and joined the girl. Treat please?
Naya had to laugh. This was one smart kneazle. He tried to take the easiest route. Unfortunately that was not going to work. “No Benjie. You have to jump to get the treat. She led him back to the front of the hoop and tried to demonstrate by sticking her arm through the hoop. ”Jump means treat.“ Back to the other side she went with her treat. “Come on Benjie. Jump.” At the rate they were going, they would never finish the obstacle course before class was over.
Benjie was getting it, he just didn’t feel like jumping. Alas, his desire for a treat made him stand and eye the round thingy. Keeping his eye on the prize, he moved forward and jumped through the hoop. Ok now treat?
“You did it”, Naya said enthusiastically. After giving Benjie a well deserved pat, she handed over the treat. “Great job! How about we do it again?” Naya waited for the kneazle to finish his treat and walked behind the second hoop. “One more time?”
Again? The girl was nice and gave good head pats, but Benjie was getting a little tired of this activity. Couldn’t he just get a treat and a pat and call it a day?

Aww, Naya was doing such a nice job with Benjie. William made a few notes on their progress and then clapped, LOUDLY, when they were done. They'd done a great job, truly.

At first, Sparticus didn't move. He let his tail flick about, eyeing the treat.............did he really HAVE to move to get it? This was annoying. But FINE. He streeeeeetched and leisurely made his way over to the treat, plopped down again, and ate the treat. Yum. Now what????
Aboli sighed. "Maybe the obstacle course isn't in your fortune, Sparty. Come on - " and she picked him up, ignoring his little wriggles to be FREEEEE and set him down on the first obstacle. Yikes. Not that he was hissing or anything, but he sure was wriggly. Once Aboli finished with it, though, she set him down and offered him a treat as retribution for his torment. Then again Professor Williamson is the expert here and he probably has his own tricks on how to train cats and kneazles a bit easier. She's absolutely here for that!
Since they're not using magic for this, she grabbed the harness and treats. If there is one thing Jillian is sure of is that some animals and creatures will always respond to food. Let's put that to test. She grabbed her kneazle and placed it near the obstacle. She placed her arm around its body to carefully put the harness and gripping it, making sure that it is just right she lowered the kneazle on the ground.
The kneazle's sleep was woken up because of these kids who wants to play... boring. Not something he enjoys doing. One moment all was fine and dandy on the girl's lap and the next thing he knew he is being made to wear this elaborate rope of doom. But he smells TREATS.
Hooman. Give me treats.
Now.
Where are them treats?
He shuffled in place and his eyes wandering around looking at the other kids. He stretched his back and yawned.
"Come on little one" Jillian faced the kneazle but she was a few inches away. In her hand was the treat, she placed all of them in her pocket. She can't help but smile when the kneazle yawned. Clearly it doesn't want to do the obstacle but this was an activity. And exercise is important.
She lined the treats strategically on the first obstacle. Yeah, that will make him do this. Go Go Go!
Sniff. Sniff.
Oh treats for the lazy kneazle.
He starts eating the treats he can smell. He prefers walking and maybe doing some casual jumps but no running. He had a heavy lunch today.
Heh, the Head Girl's kneazle was pretty amusing. He seemed determined to do what he wanted to do at the pace he wanted to do it. Would he finish the course though? Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe this was another one who would not.

Once everyone had answered the Professor's questions, he was moving on to the next part of the lesson, which involved the obstacle course, which all made sense now. She made sure to keep herself composed even though there was a slight jump in her heart rate hearing that they would all be timed to complete the course. Faye looked down at Astrid who once again look up at her. "We can do this right?"
Hi Human, were there more treats? The black and white feline meowed up at her hoping she would receive another treat. She wasn't sure why she'd received the first one, but was not questioning it at all.
The redhead stood with Astrid in her arms, heading towards the pile of toys provided by the Professor. She had a few cat toys that Astrid liked to play with back at home and in her dorm, so took a quick eye ball of what she could possibly grab that might attract her attention to follow her. She pursed her lips before deciding on grabbing one of the toys that had a few feathers dangling from a stick. "Perfect!"
She looked at Astrid again, "Alright, we're going to crush this yes?"
Astrid blinked at her without response, just staring almost to what seemed like she might have been judging her.
"I'll take that as a yes!" Moving towards the upright bars that meant she would need Astrid to maneuver between them like a wriggly snake. Faye took a deep breath before softly placing Astrid down near one end of the bars. Making sure to hide the toy from Astrid until she was ready. "Hello Astrid, oh isn't she a good kitty-Wait, what is this?" Faye gasped revealing the stick with dangling feathers behind her back to attempt to get Astrid's attention. Quickly lowering it to wave it back in forth in nearing the bars for Astrid to follow it.
Wait, what was going on? Why was human making those strange noises like she wanted something from Astrid? What? Oh, she was on the ground now...this was....new...Not used to this feeling on her paws. Was human leaving her here-BIRD! BIRD ON A STICK!
MUST CATCH BIRD AND ANNIHILATE EVIL BIRD!
Immediately lowering herself into a crouching position before lunging at the evil bird to try and catch it, but it was quick and maneuvering between these thin looking trees, but it was not matter, she would catch it!
Faye gasped as Astrid began going after the stick, thank Merlin. She moved quick to keep away from Astrid, but just enough that her cat would keep invested. Watched her feline friend bob and weave through the thin bars all the way to the end until she was through! "Good job Astrid, this way, come on girl!" Moving onto the area where the standing hoops were, going first for the smaller/lower hoop first.
Now where was that evil bird going?! AHA! Behind that hoop? Did it really think it would be protected there? Please.
Crouching low into her hunter's pose once again before quickly hopping through the pathetic hiding spot...but she wouldn't catch it. Sneaky. Wait, it was moving towards another circle behind this one, though it was a little higher! Crawling low once again, her ears perked and eyes widened as it seemed to mock her the entire time. Oh, you will be mine. But alas, she would miss it again. This was beginning to get a little annoying now.

Faye had to be very strategic with her cat as they moved onto each new obstacle. But she could see that Astrid's interest was beginning to fade after they had completed the ramp and barely finished the balance beam.
Human....no more....this was boring now..Can you pick me up now and give me more snacks? It'd be very nice.
Astrid simply stopped going for the evil bird for it kept getting out of her grasp where she couldn't annihilate it as she'd planned. Was now moving on to lying down and grooming herself calmly.
Oh no! Faye could feel a little bit of anxiety beginning to build from within, but she would not let it overcome her composure! Still felt optimistic and had faith in Astrid...plus didn't want to give up or carry her the rest of the way. She needed to think fast! Hmm...Faye knew there was no time to go all the way back to find another toy when they were so close to the finish line after coming this far. Did she have anything on her that she could also use to coax Astrid away from her grooming?
She looked over herself trying to think of something for a few moments until- AHA! Faye's eyes widened as she began to loosen her school tie around her neck. Please don't scold her for this Professor.. She removed her tie from around her neck and lowered it down the ground lying it out flat and wiggling it around on the floor like a snake nearest Astrid.
Purrrr....Purrrrrr...
Was enjoying her nice bath but just then-
WHAT WAS THAT?!
Astrid's attention was immediately onto the moving striped thing taunting her....the bath can wait....back into hunter mode! She could soon be seen darting after the tie more viciously than bird that got away, determined to catch it as she followed it through another circle like the bird tried to hide in.
Faye could feel her eagerness kicking in as this plan was working and making sure to keep a safe distance with her tie so it wouldn't get ruined. Leading Astrid successfully with a jump through another hoop soon realizing the last thing they needed to go across was the seesaw before they'd finally reach the finish line.
Her blue eyes changing between the finish line, the seesaw, Astrid and her tie. Once near the last obstacle, she positioned herself in the middle of the seesaw for Astrid twirling her tie very quickly trying to coax Astrid onto the seesaw after it. Faye watched as Astrid first tried to pounce for it from below in the middle, so lead her back a few inches back to the other end to try again. Leaving the tie on the end of the seesaw closest to Astrid this time, Faye waited for Astrid to pounce and scurry across the seesaw from one end to the other and back onto the ground.
"That's it Astrid come get the tie!"'But please don't..'
Finally Faye would successfully lead Astrid across the finish line, course completed and tie in one piece! "We did it!" She scooped up Astrid into her arms happily peppering (smothering) her cat with light kisses. "OH you really ARE such a good kitty!" Making a mental note, to definitely give Astrid extra treats when they got back to her dorm, even if there some stubborn moments that happened. Neverthelesss, she was relieved to be done...
..Now wondering how her time was.
"Nice job!" Williamson clapped for another completed run. Awww. These two were a great pair. He was really glad he'd had the kids bring their own pets to class today, y'know? It warmed the cockles of his heart.

Also, she'd heard that comment about her pet's name. We're on to you, WWW.
She turned back to the obstacle course. Her plan was to use the treat as a sort of training tool, just like she'd explained to the professor. She'd heard about pets being trained that way, so why not kneazles? The next part of the obstacle course was some winding pathway that was anything but straight. Maleficent eyed her owner, or the treat her owner had, that is. Isla picked up the same little ball she'd used before and rubbed the treat on it to give it a scent. She then tossed the ball into the pathway and began to nudge it along with her foot.
Maleficent seemed to watch curiously as Isla rubbed the treat along the ball. As the ball was tossed to the side, the scent followed it. Maleficent wanted the treat that had caused that scent, and so she scurried along after the ball much in the same way she would had the ball been a live mouse. When she reached the end of the winding pathway, she sniffed at the ball just as a piece of the treat landed beside it. The kneazle gobbled up the treat.
Isla watched as the treat landed on the ground and her kneazle devoured it. Was her training methods really working, or was the kneazle just wanting to eat? This was proving to be interesting...

She scooped up the same little ball she'd been using and rubbed the treat along it once again. The scent should be pretty strong by now, but this was only Maleficent's first day of training, so who knew what would work best.
So...a see-saw. What would be the best way to do this? Isla placed the ball on one end of the see-saw.
Maleficent sniffed around then followed the scent to the first part of the see-saw. As she stepped on it, the other side moved up. She was still sniffing the ball when her owner gently pressed down on the opposite side, causing Maleficent to rise up. Her owner placed a piece of the treat on the far end of the see-saw, so without thinking too much on the matter, the kneazle walked the see-saw like a trapeze and claimed her prize.
"Yes!" Isla said, giving a slight fist pump as Maleficent cleared the see-saw. So let's see, they'd jumped through a hoop, walked a winding pathway, and now cleared a see-saw. All that was left was to bee-line to the finish line, and that would be that. Isla collected the ball, for no other reason than she just needed to clean up, and then she tossed the last of the treat across the finish line. Hopefully Maleficent would snatch it up before someone else's pet did.
Maleficent dashed forward, taking her owner on a little jog with her. She crossed the finish line and gobbled up the remaining piece of her treat.
Isla pet her kneazle and gently removed the harness. Hopefully W³ had that second treat ready, because she had one awesome kneazle to give a reward to.

Oh, Isla.... didn't she see all the treats on the ground? WWW had left a bag there, by all the toys... but he wasn't surprised that she was getting in her feelings instead of using her observational skills.
He let out a small chuckle as she finished the course. "Well food IS one of the better incentives... but I can tell that your kneazle adores you." He nodded toward Maleficent. "Good work, you two."

Her eyes opened a few centimeters wider when it jumped out from the Ravenclaw's arms and began to rub itself all of their legs. Hopefully this cat wouldn’t shed. Gray hair would most certainly clash with their black robes. ”Sure, I’ll be right back.”
She quickly left to retrieve two of the toys from the box that Professor Williamson had tipped over. Upon seeing what there was left of the toys, Nina realized that she hadn’t a clue which one their cat would prefer. So she took a few moments to look over their options before deciding the ones that almost resembled wands? If wands had a long string with colorful feathers attached to the end. She grabbed two of these toys and made her way back to Missa, offering her one of them. ”Hope this is okay?”
She dangled her feathers over their kneazle, only to look up when their Professor called their names. Looking back over to her partner, she offered her an uncertain smile. ”Um… Let’s go(?) … kitty?” She tried enticing their new feline friend by dangling the toy over its head. Was she doing this right?

Mer-lin! These two were going to take ALL NIGHT.
Williamson sighed a bit. At least the girls were bonding with the kneazle SOMEWHAT, even if they weren't anywhere near to finishing the course....

"Go on to the next obstacle," he tried to encourage Heath and his kitten....who really was too small for this. Ah well.

Now what?”

These two were definitely, DEFINITELY not finishing the course today. "Hey," he leaned down to rub NOT Sparky between the ears. He was clinging to Williamson's leg which was NOT the most enjoyable thing in the world and Kitt was NOT helping by trying to separate the kneazle. "Maybe just try the course with ONLY Aslan?" he suggested loudly to the two boys.
"Or maybe just take your seats again, as I think your time is up, lads." Some people just weren't destined to get along with kneazles, and it looked like Lazarus was one of 'em. Hopefully he'd have a better time working with the abraxans.

"NO MAGIC," Williamson bellowed at the boys using Merlin-knew-what spell. He nonverbally cast expelliarmus on Drew AND Ewan to make this point clear, adding the boys' wands to his stack on top of the crate.
Magic made things too easy, right? And it didn't drive the point home that he was trying to make here.

Well that was... entertaining, if nothing else. "Dogs are definitely more enthusiastic and intrinsically motivated to please their owner than cats are," William agreed with Avalon. "Yep, cats have their priorities!" He smiled at her anyway for her good effort.

Was that everyone then? After the last student had finished, he signaled Professor Eris to take his turn. Naturally, he was the fastest; Williamson didn't require a stopwatch to tell him that. He did set out a bottle of water for the transfiguration professor, and then gave him a few claps of approval when he was all done.
"Well done. You have our fastest time," duh! "But Claudine Blaze and President are a close second, Naya Lindsay and Benjie are third, and Flynn Whitlock and Cabri---Gabri---er, Flynn is fourth!" He nodded at all the students and then set his list off to the side, in case anyone wanted to check it later.
"Take a bit to rest and give your cat or kneazle some love, because you'll want them on your side for our next portion of class." Williamson threw back the covering on the crate to reveal the REAL COOL kittens of this class. Would anyone know what they were at just a glance? Possibly not. They were pretty young still, and their brightly colored harnesses were barely hanging on them.
He cleared his throat. "This is Rufus and Fiona, two wampus kittens from the country where I used to work. They're here as our special guests, and we're going to try to allow them to run the obstacle course. But before we get there... let's go over the wampus. There's a lot of myths that surround this animal... so what do YOU think is true about them? What do you expect Rufus and Fiona to do? And why, and how, should we care for such a dangerous feline?"
Obviously he wasn't opening the cage yet until he was sure the kids could handle themselves around a XXXXX-rated animal with certain powers. Oh how the days had changed when he would just hatch a baby dragon in front of the class....
This closed cage wasn't pleasing to Rufus OR Fiona, but for now they stared out at the audience of cats and h00mans with their large, yellow-ish eyes, almost daaaaaaring the students (or their kneazles) to come cloooooooooooooooser.......
OOC: We'll move on in idk how many hours. 16? Please, continue to RP for your cat or kneazle BUT I will play Rufus/Fiona. :3 The wampus kittens' powers DEFINITELY work on housecats and weak-minded younger students, although kneazles and older students might try to resist them....

Islay looked at the creatures in their cages, and it was clear in that one glance that they were strong. Strong, and powerful…and impossibly small it seemed? She had always thought that they would be bigger or who know speckled like the cougar and mountain lion cubs she had seen while visiting an animal sanctuary with her family so many years before.
Raising her hand, Islay tried to answer “I believe they are said to have power over both hypnosis and legitimacy? But that may just be myth.” She smiled sheepishly.
Truly, she would have LOVED to see a dragon hatch.

He was certain that some were just living it UP hearing Professor Williamson call him by his first name. Know who was not one of those people? If you guessed anyone other than one EIJI Rasting then...well...anyway.
Cheeks flaring red and feeling almost as though steam were going to come out of his ears, he managed a TIGHT lipped smile at the professor and then the cat...on the ground...that had now rolled on to its back acting as though it were expecting a rub and was utterly ignoring the feathered toy in his hand. That wasn't even the worst of it...both Nina AND Missa were...NOT CHOOSING HIM?!
......what was this rubbish?!
The look on his face was surely one both girls would relish in and, frankly, he did deserve it for being a pompous jerk in the heat of the moment but he had never in his WILDEST dreams imagined this scenario. And then of course the man himself had to point out that they were working together and could move to the course. Know were Eiji was? Still here with his stupid overweight kneazle that had now rolled over again and was nuzzling his shoe like it was its long lost lover.
"....come oooooooooooooooon," he pleaded with the thing, waving the toy more and more frantically in its face...but it still cared not. In fact...it just wanted to purr and drool all over his shoe now. "....bloody hell." He was even frustrated enough to mutter a few CHOICE words of Japanese under his breath. His mother would not have approved.
Then Eiji was struck with a thought...though it was a little TOO late as he had been focusing on only the obvious bribing points of various cat toys...and slowly began side stepping his way towards the course. As he had hypothesized, the dumb thing flopped like a seal on land until its chin was perched on his shoe again. Another couple of steps...more flopping.
Eiji had quite LITERALLY just reached the course when Professor Williamson said they were done. Great. Just GREAT. He hadn't even STARTED and it was all this black kneazle's doing. He looked down to glare at it...but it didn't care. It was still with its head flopped on to his shoe, drooling, and now the paws were clawing at his pant leg. Or...well...doing that thing that cats do when their being affectionate and kind of massaging.
Guess he had THAT going for him, his kneazle was obsessed with him.
And why was there a fox here? Also...why weren't any of the kneazles flipping out by the fact that there was a fox here? Didn't like...predators get some sort of way about other predators?
....whatever. His focus was a little elsewhere as his kneazle's claws sunk into his shin while it was showing him all the love and adoration in the world. Maybe he ought to use this time to collect a bit of kneazle drool - he certainly did not feel like answering the question being posed. He WOULD like to get a closer look at those wampus cat, however.
...maybe he could collect a wampus cat whisker by the end of this? They would be great additions to any speed or strength potion...along with help provide some interesting additions to some of his alchemy processes.

Were the really suggesting he give up on old Sparky? Just like that? A little opposition and suddenly it was time to throw in the towel? No no no, he was sticking by his kneazle. They had a bond. A shaky....uncertain....il-advised bond, but it was there.
"Sorry we couldn't finish the course." Kitt told Noah. The boy flopped to the ground by his defiant feline partner. He waited til an unexpected moment then yanked Sparky off the Professor. It only took a lot little screeching and hissing and clawing but the kneazle soon settled in his lap, satisfied he wasn't trying to take him around the block again. See? This wasn't so bad, minus the minor scrapes. They were fine and he was taking a rest as instructed.
Kitt looked to the cage. All he saw were cats. Possibly a different breed, but they still looked like cats.
The fact that Islay was talking about powers and the Professor said there were myths made him think there was a lot more to this story. Unfortunately, he knew nothing about this story, or them, so....
"The crawl into your bed and suck your soul through your nose at night then bring it back to their litter and you get reincarnated--'cause, see, the babies are born without a soul, yeah? And and and so they have to go find souls to give to their babies. Those two are here because they're parents are good hunters."
Someone once told him, if you spoke confidently enough, people would not only think you knew what you were talking about, they would also believe you. So there, his version of whatever those things were. He was as likely to be right as he was to be wrong.
Reginald--yes, he had a name and it wasn't Sparky--purred softly when Williamson gave him a scratch behind the ear. That's all he wanted. Comfort and pampering, none of that manual labour business the boy was pushi--
Hey hey heeeeeyyyy.
The kneazle struggled against the sudden pull but he wasn't quick enough and soon found himself in this Kitt boy's lap. Startled, he'd retaliated immediately but upon realizing that sitting was all they were doing, he finally calmed down enough. Let that be the last time they tried forcing him into hard work.

No magic? He figured that hardly counted as magic but just shrugged his shoulder, not really at all perturbed and just shot a small smile at Drew ”Oops. My bad. I thought it was a good idea” shrugging briefly before turning back to the Kneazle who had proudly wandered back over to him, mouse in mouth. Laughing a little, he just bent down and gave the feline some extra love. He really was a dog person but maybe, just maybe, there might be room for a Kneazle of this sort in his life.
At the sound of the word Wampus, Ewan turned, his eyes being drawn to the two kittens as the professor explained that they were special guests? Huh. America was pretty far to come for two little cats. He wasn’t exactly sure where the Professor had taught but he guessed it must have been Ilvermorny if he had access to cats like these. After all, they were native to America but did that really make them special guests?
If the Kneazle had taken offence to teacup being there, it was nothing compared to what it did when it saw the two wampus cats. Staring daggers at both the kittens, its fur stood up on end as it circled Ewan, small, quiet hisses escaping its mouth. It did not like those things and would appreciate it if they would just vanish again, thank you very much!
Ewan took a step closer, a little drawn to the cats, his eyes on their beaming yellow ones. ”Yeaaaah…hypnosis” he replied, repeating Islay’s answer. ”They uhhh…apparently can walk on their back legs too. It’s even used in wands!. How had he got so close to the cage?
After a brief moment, the Ravenclaw prefect blinked several times, his eyes no longer looking all glassy and vacant. Turning, he walked back towards Drew and Chloe. In truth, he’d only taken a few tentative steps towards the Wampus cats but the feeling had been weird. It was like he was in a trance. He didn’t like it one bit. Not at all.
Puff by day, snake by night | Mj's bestie | Always UP to Something...
Chloe couldn't help but smile at Drew, "It's very nice to meet you. I hope you are enjoying Hogwarts." She felt her cheeks warm a little with the wink he gave and she found herself almost forgetting Teacup, that was until Ewan started talking about the lesson at hand. Her cat had left them and headed to the professor so she turned on her heel, but looked back, "If you ever need any help around here Drew don't be afraid to come find me." Biting her lip a little she glanced at Ewan and then back at Drew before heading towards her cat.
Just as she grabbed Teacup and took her towards their seats Williamson started talking again. She grabbed a few treats and handed them to her cat as the crate was revealed and Chloe started to grin, those were gorgeous and she had never seen a wampus in person. She was intrigued to hear what he said, but at the same time she was wanting to go over and see them closer. "They grow to be pretty large. " Which was so interesting and scary at the same time. With her focus on the wampus now she had left Teacup unattended long enough the cat had left her side again.
She spotted her humans other human (Morgan) and knew the boy would have food. So Teacup left the side of her furless mum and headed towards him, but something caught her eye. She was just about to jump on Morgan so he knew she was hungry when eyes drew her in. What were these things. Crouching down and sneaking like the hunter she felt she was Teacup went up towards the cage and swatted at the bars looking at the eyes that were staring out.
