| | Charms Lesson 1: Aparecium Charm When you walk into the Charms classroom, the big bold words on the chalkboard will remind you of the reading you should have done before class: Aparecium Charm. It’s a chilly autumn day, so the windows in the classroom are shut to keep the cold and the rain out. And although it’s just afternoon, the sky outside the windows is darker than normal, and an odd shade of purple, so the lights inside the room are lit a bit brighter than normal to illuminate the class room.
Professor Fuller-Thompson stands at the front of the classroom in his usual position, leaning up against the edge of his desk, waiting for his students to arrive, making note of who was there on time, who was running late and who was flipping their textbook open at the last minute because they forgot to do the reading. OOC: Welcome to Charms class! Just a reminder, this is the first OOC lesson, but this would not be the first charms lesson that your student would have attended. Class Progression:1. Greetings / Question 1 2. Replies / Question 2 3. Replies / Mini Activity 4. Main Activity

And considering the fact that an elephant probably had about 20 of them? It'd be hard to open their mouth! She raised her eyebrows at the parchment curiously before folding it up and tucking it into her pocket. Now to find some more hidden messages.
After the next few minutes of her search, Avalon came up empty-handed. It seemed like the other students had found most of the obvious pieces of parchment. She had looked on the bookshelves, under the desks, and in the door frame. She was making her way around the room again when the old piece of parchment fluttered out of her robe pocket. Kneeling down to pick it up, Avalon noticed a slip of paper wedged between the floorboard and the corner of the wall. She stashed the old piece in her pocket again before grabbing the new piece. It took a bit of force to wriggle it out of its spot, but she finally got it free. Three taps with her wand. "Aparecium!" Would she learn another interesting fun fact this time?

It was no crazy gymnastics, and was actually moderately real life practical. Not that she expected to find very many secret notes in classrooms during her lifetime, but it was close enough to useful.
She stooped low to the ground and looked around, before spotting a piece under the leg of a desk. She lifted the table and grabbed the parchment.
Tap, Tap, Tap. "Aparecium."

Ronan stared at the writing as it slowly revealed itself. He had to do what?? The Hufflepuff lifted his head to look at the Charms professor with a mixture of confusion and a little bit of horror. Was he supposed to do this no context? Was this a joke? Was this some sort of treasure hunt? Oh that last thought seemed fun. Ronan hoped it was a treasure hunt, he liked those a lot. He was really good at looking for things.
Pocketing the note - because he'd need it, for later, with Professor Schmoe - Ronan surveyed the room again. He went all the way to the back, around the tables, and towards the professor's table. Hmm. He passed the table and the professor himself, side eyeing him just slightly, and tried to look behind the chalkboard. Oh, there's one! Ronan reached to grab the piece of paper on the back of the board and happily returned to his table.
Ronan cast the charm with unveiled excitement, enjoying the tap tap tap sound of his wand on the table.

Before Cole had had a chance to try and write something new with the invisible ink and then make appear the activity was called off. Turning his attention to professor Fuller-Thompson he listened to their new instructions wishing that they’d get to keep the invisible ink quill at the end of class. Feeling confident with the spell Cole got up from his seat to hunt for a secret message paper of his own. Since everyone else seemed to be looking under chair and desks he chose make his way over to the windowsill where there were lots of flower vases and other trinkets. Lifting up a big vase of thorned red roses he spotted a paper. Taking the paper, Cole set the vase back on the sill. Taking his wand he tapped the paper three times as he said firmly "Aparecium." Now what writing would appear?

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent If Morgan had given it much thought, he might wonder what good this spell really was if EVERYONE knew it and therefore NO ONE could really write secret messages without being found out by literally ANYONE. But he wasn't giving it much thought right now because all he wanted to do was find out what the secret messages were!
He was having trouble finding one after everyone went running off and he took off aimlessly in the classroom, not seeing any in plain sight. But as he neared the professor's desk, Morgan got down on his hands and knees and pulled a slip of parchment caught under the desk's leg. Found one!
Since he was up by the professor's desk, he laid the parchment on the top of that desk, to cast the spell. "Aparecium!" TAP. TAP. TAP.

Blake's piece of paper said that the Professor had a prize for him!! What could it be! Taking his piece of parchment to the Professor he smiled. "Professor." Blake said holding his parchment in case the Professor wanted proof that it did indeed say what it said. "My parchment said you have a prize for me." He showed his proof and waiting to see what kind of exciting thing was to be offered.

| ♣ Heejin here | Did somebody say coffee & cakes? | cat lover ♣ She placed her wand on the table right next to the parchment where she wrote her name. Jillian was enjoying this, she could find a time to write a journal and then use this spell. Now only if she was motivated enough to write about her day. That'd be nice too.
Anyway-
Professor Piers mentioned that there were pieces of papers with hidden messages in them around the classroom. Awesome. With his signal, she stood up and walked around the room. Some of her classmates were already going in for the kill having to collect as many paper as possible. Jillian went to the shelf and checked the back portion of it. It was random, the seventh year Slytherin figured one of the papers could have slipped there by accident.... or not.
And there is was, sitting with some of the dust, a piece of paper. She grabbed it carefully. Tap tap tap "Apparecium" she said. Fingers crossed there will be a messaged that pops up.

When the spell was done right, the little paper fluttered around a bit before revealing the message. Quote:

She'd seen a few others find pieces there, but it seemed like they'd all been taken.
The second year rubbed the right side of her neck. She was going to have a crick in it from the way she'd twisted around to get that last piece of parchment. Then, after all that, she'd just gotten some weird message that didn't even make any sense at all. She had to think outside the box, didn't she? Windows and desks were obvious places. Where else could she look that might not be so wide open and easily accessible?
Isla got down on her hands and knees and began crawling around on the floor. Pretty soon, she found herself near Fuller-Thompson's desk. Well, to be more accurate, she was right near the legs of the desk. She scanned the floor for any sign of something out of place. Nothing. She looked around on the front side, left side, and right side of the desk. Nothing.
She was just about to get up, when she noticed that the left leg of the desk looked a little different than the other legs. She ran her hand along it, and a piece of parchment unraveled and fell into her hands. Whaaa?! It'd been pretty much disguised as a desk leg! She'd nearly missed it. Well played, Fuller-Thompson.
Wiping off some dust that had settled on the bridge of her nose, Isla wandered to a random desk and placed the parchment in front of her. She took hold of her wand and aimed it forward. "Aparecium!" she said, and then she tapped three times with her wand. That little piece of parchment was wondering (if an inanimate object could wonder) if anyone was going to find it. Thank goodness, because it had a secret to share! Quote:

So she may or may not have quickly peeked over the shoulders of some of her classmates to see what their notes said as she passed. But she was definitely searching for her own too!
She looked under a few desks, but either there weren't any under those, or someone else had already grabbed them.
Hmm...
She walked over to some of the bookshelves, checking in between the books to see if... Aha!
Ivy pulled the piece of paper out from between a couple books and set it flat on the shelf. She tapped her wand on it one, two, three times, and said, "Aparecium!"
What would it say??? Finally, the paper was free! And it had something important to say. Quote:

Islay walked around looking for more notes, even heading toward Professor Thompson’s desk. After all he had said they could be anywhere, she didn’t go into the desk – no, she just ducked down on her hands and her feet and looked UNDER the desk. Dust. All she could achoo see was dust. “pardon me” she murmured as she turned and looked at the from another angle. She was going to find another note.
SHE WAS GOING TO GET THIS.
There, she saw it. The white slip of almost imperceptible nothingness that was half stuck under a chair. Kneeling down the Gryffindor peeled it off of the chair before dropping the note onto the table and tap-tap-tapping away. “Aparecium” she tried again. Funny where all those pieces of parchment ended up. Quote:

After that, Jina returned to the activity. She looked everywhere for random pieces of paper, but it seemed like she was less lucky this time. She could not find anything and began to feel anxious, because everybody else was doing so well!! She decided to look at the bookshelf more closely, which was where some students were finding the notes. She lifted the books one at a time and found a piece of paper under the fifth book she lifted. Smoothing it out on the desk nearest to her, she cast the charm. "Aparecium," she said, accompanied by three firm taps on the paper. A message began to appear, and she read it excitedly. Piers was watching all of the students work, pleased that they were doing so well. He looked over at Jina as she came over with her piece of paper that awarded her points. ”Aha,” he said, plucking the paper from her fingers. ”Very good. I’ll add these to your class points.”
Her second piece of parchment wasn’t quite as rewarding, but still interesting. Quote:

After the Professor had finished explaining what was going to happen next, he got to his feet, tucked his wand in his back pocket and started to explore the classroom for some of the pieces of paper that the professor had described. It didn’t take the 6ft4 prefect long to find a scrap that was hidden under a book left on a desk.
Holding the piece of paper in his hand outstretched in front of him, he quickly cast the spell ”Aparecium!” and waited patiently to see what note the professor had left him. When the tall prefect performed the spell, the paper fluttered in his hand a bit before revealing the message. Quote:

Pocketing the note - because he'd need it, for later, with Professor Schmoe - Ronan surveyed the room again. He went all the way to the back, around the tables, and towards the professor's table. Hmm. He passed the table and the professor himself, side eyeing him just slightly, and tried to look behind the chalkboard. Oh, there's one! Ronan reached to grab the piece of paper on the back of the board and happily returned to his table.
Ronan cast the charm with unveiled excitement, enjoying the tap tap tap sound of his wand on the table. Tap tap tap, and the ink surely appeared again. Quote:

Feeling confident with the spell Cole got up from his seat to hunt for a secret message paper of his own. Since everyone else seemed to be looking under chair and desks he chose make his way over to the windowsill where there were lots of flower vases and other trinkets. Lifting up a big vase of thorned red roses he spotted a paper. Taking the paper, Cole set the vase back on the sill. Taking his wand he tapped the paper three times as he said firmly "Aparecium." Now what writing would appear? When Cole plucked the paper from under the vase, it fluttered with excitement while he cast the spell. Then the ink began to reveal itself. Quote:

He was having trouble finding one after everyone went running off and he took off aimlessly in the classroom, not seeing any in plain sight. But as he neared the professor's desk, Morgan got down on his hands and knees and pulled a slip of parchment caught under the desk's leg. Found one!
Since he was up by the professor's desk, he laid the parchment on the top of that desk, to cast the spell. "Aparecium!" TAP. TAP. TAP. The little piece of paper was WONDERING (again, if paper could wonder) if anyone would ever find it. Oh, but someone did! Thankfully. And what did the little paper have to say? Quote:

He showed his proof and waiting to see what kind of exciting thing was to be offered. Hearing his name (or his title, rather), Piers looked up and saw Blake heading his way with another piece of parchment. What was this then? Ah, a prize. ”Right, yes, a prize...” The man looked around him and plucked an apple off of the desk before handing it off to the boy. ”There you go. A snack.” What a nice prize, right? Quote:

Anyway-
Professor Piers mentioned that there were pieces of papers with hidden messages in them around the classroom.
When the prefect found the piece of paper, some dust fell from it as she picked it up. When the spell was cast, a message started to reveal itself... Quote:

He waited about fifteen minutes, his eyes glancing towards the clock every few minutes or so to make sure that they didn’t go over their allotted class time. But he also watched everyone in class and saw that everyone was getting the hang of it - and that was good. ”Alright everyone!” Piers called out over the chatter of the classroom. ”Everyone, wands away. You’ve all done a great job. I’m going to let you lot out a bit early today because you’ve done so well.” And that was a VERY rare thing for him to do. But honestly, they were doing great. ”Keep practicing this charm until I see you again and keep your eyes peeled for the homework assignment. Class dismissed.” OOC: Thank you all for coming! I hope you guys had fun! I’ll get the points (and the extra points) added for you guys in the next week or so. |
