| | Charms Lesson 1: Aparecium Charm When you walk into the Charms classroom, the big bold words on the chalkboard will remind you of the reading you should have done before class: Aparecium Charm. It’s a chilly autumn day, so the windows in the classroom are shut to keep the cold and the rain out. And although it’s just afternoon, the sky outside the windows is darker than normal, and an odd shade of purple, so the lights inside the room are lit a bit brighter than normal to illuminate the class room.
Professor Fuller-Thompson stands at the front of the classroom in his usual position, leaning up against the edge of his desk, waiting for his students to arrive, making note of who was there on time, who was running late and who was flipping their textbook open at the last minute because they forgot to do the reading. OOC: Welcome to Charms class! Just a reminder, this is the first OOC lesson, but this would not be the first charms lesson that your student would have attended. Class Progression:1. Greetings / Question 1 2. Replies / Question 2 3. Replies / Mini Activity 4. Main Activity

Noah was scribbling down another message when Professor Fuller announnced they would be moving onto the next part of their lesson. Mid-sentence he stopped writing and refocused his attention on the new task at hand. He was a little slow to react as his fellow classmates sprung from their stations to go look for a slip of paper. Even Aboli was frantically searching floorboards and every nook and cranny.
Noah spotted a few pots in the corner of the classroom and headed over towards them. Reaching into the first, he couldn't feel anything so he moved on. It took him about four tries until he finally was able to feel something. Paper was it? Lifting the scrap of paper out, he took his wand and tapped three times, "Aparecium."

"Yo, Pheebs," Bernie worked her way over to her desk, since they COULD move around and look for hidden messages now. "Pheebs, you have to tap the parchment three times to see the message."
Don't worry, she'd done the same thing the first time. As for hidden messages? Bernie walked around her friend and tried to see if any were hidden like on the back of her chair or other side of her desk something. Hmm, nope, not seeing anything yet. Phoebe perked up at Bernie's voice and gave her friend a biiiiiiig smile. See? She wasn't upset at all that she was incapable of casting spells. Like a dummy. "Thanks. I'll give it a try," Phoebe tapped her parchment broadly with her wand, one two three times and repeated the incantation. See? Still didn't... well, darn. It worked.
IT WORKED. Phoebe leaped to her feet and threw her arms around Bernie, ignoring the fact that Bernie was probably busy doing the professor's task and looking for hidden messages. THEY COULD DO THAT LATER. "You fixed me! You did it!" So WHAT if following the directions in the first place would have had the same effect?
"Let's fine all the parchments!"

| Following the paper's instructions Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona looked at the piece of parchment in front of her in stunned silence. It was instructing her to give her Charms Professor/Head of House a high-five. Slowly she got up, clutching the piece of parchment in her right hand and headed towards Professor Fuller-Thompson. Swallowing quite audibly, Fiona raised her left hand and prepared to give Professor Fuller-Thompson a high-five.

Naya was about to write another invisible message so she could try the charm again. Before she could do it, the professor announced that they were moving on to the next activity. A little hide and seek was the challenge. They were going to have to find the hidden notes and reveal the messages. Annnnd it was time to start.
Naya began to move around the room, trying to find one of the hidden slips of paper. She started by looking under her desk and chair. Nope. She figured it wouldn’t be that easy. Scanning the room, she looked for any obvious notes. Nothing jumped out at her, so clearly Naya was going to have to use some effort. She went and looked along the windows. Nothing. Until she got to one of the last windows and saw something peeking out from under the window sill. Reaching under there, Naya found a blank piece of paper. She tapped it three times with her wand and said, “Aparecium” Then she waited and hoped that the message would reveal itself.

She wanted to collect as many as she could, and so she quickly dropped off her seat and climbed under the work stables and began crab-walking under the table. Looking up at the bottoms of the workstation – none that she could see.
Sitting up again she began to scour the room for notes until she saw one rather HIGH (for her) up on a shelf. Grabbing her stool Islay shoved it against the wall and climbed up reaching her small frame as high as it could go before grabbing the piece of paper out of it. was that a rip? no, she didn’t just rip school property.
There was no way.
Taking the small note (or what she hoped was a note) over to the workstation with her stool she immediately set to work. Tap Tap TAAAP “aparecium” see maybe she had a thing for this. Maybe.

If she was hiding notes about in a classroom, she knew of at least ONE spot she'd be sure to put one.

She slid out the piece of parchment before putting the book back in it's rightful place and pulling out her wand. Three taps. "Aparecium!"
She kinda hoped she was getting a joke one. What was Professor FT's sense of humor like? The piece of parchment was blank when it was retrieved from the book. But after the spell was cast, it revealed its message. Quote:

Disappointed, she straightened up. Oh. The chair. The Snakette snuck her hand under the it and almost immediately, her fingers found a slip of parchment. Excellent. The slip was set on her desk. And there was no way that this was a random piece of parchment. Why would anyone cut up such a small piece and leave it under the desk like that. Maybe she wasn't as good at nonverbals as she had thought. Again, Nina concentrated. Trying to take her mind off the fact that she had just made a COMPLETE fool of herself!!!

Isla waited, breath held in anticipation, as the words revealed themselves. *blink* Whaa?! Yeah. Rubbish. This one was no good. She rolled her eyes at the parchment then wandered to a completely different part of the room. Her eyes scanned the windows for any sign of a piece of parchment sticking out somewhere. She'd seen a few others find pieces there, but it seemed like they'd all been taken.
The second year rubbed the right side of her neck. She was going to have a crick in it from the way she'd twisted around to get that last piece of parchment. Then, after all that, she'd just gotten some weird message that didn't even make any sense at all. She had to think outside the box, didn't she? Windows and desks were obvious places. Where else could she look that might not be so wide open and easily accessible?
Isla got down on her hands and knees and began crawling around on the floor. Pretty soon, she found herself near Fuller-Thompson's desk. Well, to be more accurate, she was right near the legs of the desk. She scanned the floor for any sign of something out of place. Nothing. She looked around on the front side, left side, and right side of the desk. Nothing.
She was just about to get up, when she noticed that the left leg of the desk looked a little different than the other legs. She ran her hand along it, and a piece of parchment unraveled and fell into her hands. Whaaa?! It'd been pretty much disguised as a desk leg! She'd nearly missed it. Well played, Fuller-Thompson.
Wiping off some dust that had settled on the bridge of her nose, Isla wandered to a random desk and placed the parchment in front of her. She took hold of her wand and aimed it forward. "Aparecium!" she said, and then she tapped three times with her wand.

Ivy was pretty confident in her Aparecium casting skills after the practice session, and she was immensely curious to find out what the professor had written on all the pieces of parchment around the classroom. She wished she could read them ALL, especially the ones that he said had surprises they liked. SHE liked surprises! She wanted all the surprises!
So she may or may not have quickly peeked over the shoulders of some of her classmates to see what their notes said as she passed. But she was definitely searching for her own too!
She looked under a few desks, but either there weren't any under those, or someone else had already grabbed them.
Hmm...
She walked over to some of the bookshelves, checking in between the books to see if... Aha!
Ivy pulled the piece of paper out from between a couple books and set it flat on the shelf. She tapped her wand on it one, two, three times, and said, "Aparecium!"
What would it say???

| HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED Islay leaned her head on her hand and watched as the note seemed to change. Lines and strokes darkened until letters blossomed on the page – the little tiny page.
Oh good.
She hadn’t ripped a page out of a book willy-nilly – and now, reading the note she just grinned. This was great, she’d have to use this line on someone sometime. “huh, cool” she tucked the note into the pocket for safe keeping as she made her way to search for more papers.
Islay walked around looking for more notes, even heading toward Professor Thompson’s desk. After all he had said they could be anywhere, she didn’t go into the desk – no, she just ducked down on her hands and her feet and looked UNDER the desk. Dust. All she could achoo see was dust. “pardon me” she murmured as she turned and looked at the from another angle. She was going to find another note.
SHE WAS GOING TO GET THIS.
There, she saw it. The white slip of almost imperceptible nothingness that was half stuck under a chair. Kneeling down the Gryffindor peeled it off of the chair before dropping the note onto the table and tap-tap-tapping away. “Aparecium” she tried again.

Fiona couldn't help but grin when Professor Fuller-Thompson gave her an audible high-five. "You're welcome, Professor," she replied when he thanked her. Fiona then set off to find another piece of parchment.
Furrowing her brow, Fiona began searching high and low until she spotted a slightly chipped china teacup that was amongst a section of knick-knacks. It was white with red roses adorning it. Peering inside, Fiona pulled out a small piece of parchment that was seemingly blank. Heading back to her desk and placed the parchment in front of her and tapped it thrice before saying, "Aparecium!" |

An extra five house points! This was indeed one of the special messages. With a big smile on her face, she walked up to Professor Fuller-Thompson and showed him the paper proudly. "Five points to Ravenclaw, sir!" Yay.
After that, Jina returned to the activity. She looked everywhere for random pieces of paper, but it seemed like she was less lucky this time. She could not find anything and began to feel anxious, because everybody else was doing so well!! She decided to look at the bookshelf more closely, which was where some students were finding the notes. She lifted the books one at a time and found a piece of paper under the fifth book she lifted. Smoothing it out on the desk nearest to her, she cast the charm. "Aparecium," she said, accompanied by three firm taps on the paper. A message began to appear, and she read it excitedly.

House points! A whole seven of them! Yesssss. Alexandre grabbed the piece of paper and excitedly hopped up from his crouching position. "Professor!" Placing his wand down, the prefect just looked up, still not fully paying attention because so far, he just didn’t have to. Although, even just half paying attention, the next activity did get him a little bit more interested in the class. Sure, he was 17 going on 18 now but there was just something about a treasure hunt of sorts that brought out the inner child in him. He couldn’t help but smile a little now as his eyes focused on the professor properly for the remaining of the instructions.
After the Professor had finished explaining what was going to happen next, he got to his feet, tucked his wand in his back pocket and started to explore the classroom for some of the pieces of paper that the professor had described. It didn’t take the 6ft4 prefect long to find a scrap that was hidden under a book left on a desk.
Holding the piece of paper in his hand outstretched in front of him, he quickly cast the spell ”Aparecium!” and waited patiently to see what note the professor had left him.

K stared at the note in her hand as it revealed itself, giving a slight snort when the words unveiled themselves. Was Professor Fuller Thompson a dad? She assumed so.
Stashing her first note into her robe pocket, K glanced around the room again to try to decide where to look next. She could see some checking the floor and potted plants and window panes. But where else would be a decent place to look? She noticed a couple of paintings and mirrors on the walls, and decided it was worth a shot to check around those. Making her way to the nearest wall art, she eyed along the edges before -- AHA! White! She reached up on her tiptoes to grab the piece of parchment sticking out towards the top. She pulled out her wand and tapped piece of paper three times. "Aparecium!”

This was a handy dandy thing, wasn't it? She was actually getting more and more interested as she practiced with her own notes. She thought about writing one to a certain person in this class and grabbed the parchment just as the professor called them back to his attention. Setting down the parchment she decided she could write the note at any point and put the message in the back of her mind.
Listening to the next thing they were going to do, Chloe got up to look for the parchment. Searching under her table she grabbed of the piece of parchment and looked at it. She still found int so interesting that you couldn't tell at all that something was written on it. How many students were already using this and she was just kind of realizing she could have. She knew it was around, but never thought to ever try it. How many other things did she miss out on always following rules and always doing what she was supposed to?
Lifting her wand and doing the movement, she said the word very clearly, "Aparecium" |

"Let's fine all the parchments!" Bernie waited, patiently, by Phoebe's side to see if it worked... AND IT DID! WHewwwwwwwWWWWWWWWww! What a relief to know your friends weren't Squibs. Though, to be fair, she'd still be Phoebe's friend even if she were a Squib. :3
"YOU fixed YOU," she laughed, bouncing a little, as she hugged her back. "OKAY!" Naturally, Bernie bouncing around had knocked the little parchment off her head and onto the floor by Phoebe's foot.
Oooooh. The movement of the slip of paper caught Bernie's eye. "PHEEBS! Look! Do you think that's one or is it just a bit of rubbish?" Only one way to check. Bernie felt that Phoebe should attempt the spell again, now that she knew how to do it and all.

| Mini activity catchup leading into main activity :3 YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Who knew that she had so much to say about the subject? Had Fuller-Thompson even being listening to her, Carsyn wasn't particularly sure but no matter because it seemed they were moving on to practicing the revealing charm. It sounded easy enough for the sixth year. "Aparecium," she stated in practice of the spell, before getting out her notebook to scribble something in the invisible ink provided: CaRsYN RoSE iS The COOleST sEEkeR yoU wIlL eVER meET
Only problem? She couldn't read her handwriting because well, invisible, so she had no idea how need or legible it was, which meant "Aparecium" and tapped the parchment three times to reveal: CaRsYN RoSE iS The COOleST sEEkeR yoU wIlL eVER meET
Whew, it did work. Although not the most legible but she supposed that was what you got when you couldn't exactly see what you writing, as you were writing it.
Moving on though, because apparently they were finding scraps of paper with notes around the room. Well, it just sooooo happened that as a SEEKER, she was GREAT at finding at things. Especially in the hard to find places, which is why she headed over to the bookshelves, scanning the rows of books for any books that seemed out of place. Huh.... was that ... yes, it did look like that one had recently been moved. Selecting the book on Modern Day Charms, Carsyn flipped through it as a paper fluttered towards the ground. Seeker reflexes in check, she shut the book and caught the paper just as it was about at the ground.
Could it be? Only one way to find out.... "Aparecium." And now time to wait.

The wait was worth it. Slowly, the words on Naya’s paper began to reveal themselves. Annnnd...... Quote:

She had hit the jackpot. House points! Yessss. Naya wasted no time and headed straight for the professor. “Professor, this is the message I got. Points for Gryffindor, yeah?” What more could she ask for? Her day was pretty much made. However, she wasn’t done with her searching. As soon as the professor acknowledged her message, she would be off to find more papers. Practice made perfect right? Maybe she would find another good message. Who knew?

!!! NO CHARMS HOMEWORK FOR A WEEK? Aboli BEAMED. "Professor, if I still WANT to do my homework, can I get extra credit?" She batted her eyelashes. Not that she needed it, but what if one day she had a BAD DAY and she skipped class and SOOOOO she needed it?
Also, taking a week off homework might be a bad idea. What if she got super behind?
BUT THEN ALSO ALSO - what if she didn't take advantage of this NOW and next week was VERY busy and MAY MAYBEEEEE she should take the extra time off from CHARMS to play catchup in HERBOLOGY -
Aboli's mind was SPINNING.

Though to be fair, it was a pretty cool fact, he shoved the folded piece of parchment into his pocket and continued searching.
He watched as some of his fellow students, such as Islay, started looking underneath the tables and chairs of where they had been sitting previously. The boy made his way over to a few bookcases and began opening up various books and shaking them to see if he could find something. After his twelfth book, he saw a sliver of parchment fall out. Gotcha. Swooping down, he picked up the parchment and held it in his left hand as he readied his wand.
" Apparecium." He tapped the parchment three times.

Maybe it was hunting for worms? Maybe it was trying to escape a butcher? Who knew? She amused herself, as she shuffled to the back of the classroom, thinking of possible other reasons. Also, maybe there was one or a few notes lurking by the windows.
Casually, the Snakette ran her hands along the sill of the first window she came across. The little cracks and crevices were not missed. The result? She was rewarded by a piece of parchment with no writing upon it. “Aparecium.’’ Triple taps with the wand.
Would there be a message? Or was this a discarded piece of parchment stuck at the window ledge by some idle student? |

And didn't it figure that Bernie was going to make Phoebe perform the spell perfectly twice in a row? What a good friend. "I hope I fixed me enough to do this twice." Her scalp itched from the intense scrutiny (imagined) as she tapped the parchment three times. "Aparecium." Ahem. PLEASE WORK.

Caledon Roth The Leaky Cauldron | Rhibear ~ Madam Solo ~ Dark Brooding Girl ~ Accio Jedi ~ Gryffinclaw ~ Just a doll Heath had barely managed to successfully cast Aparecium once before Professor Fuller-Thompson moved on to the main activity. He lowered his wand and faced front, listening intently to the directions. At first, he was concerned that his lack of success would hurt him in this activity, but the more he heard about it, the more fun it sounded. Now this was how to do a “collect X object” activity! No bouncing, no unnecessary competition, just fun for everybody!
At the professor’s signal, Heath got up, his dark eyes scanning the area for anything that looked even remotely like a scrap of paper. As he looked down, he spotted something white under one of the back legs of his chair. That didn’t look like it was part of the chair, so he was going to guess it was a paper. Hmm… how had he not noticed that there when he came in? Never mind, it didn’t matter. He bent down, picking up the object, and - aha! It was a piece of paper!
Now came the hard part: the actual spell casting. He’d already done it once; surely he could do it again, right? Right?! Only one way to find out… Gathering all his concentration, Heath held the paper out and tapped it three times with his wand. “Aparecium!” Did that work? He stared at the paper, hoping to see a message appear.
