If you want to be the last to leave or want to hang with the more rowdy crowd, then the back passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.

So this was seventh year.
Each step of his lanky stride had been weighed down with embarrassment as his parents AND grandpa had escorted himself and Rebecca to King's Cross station to see them both off. Though they were mostly there to see HIM off since it was his momentous last term. To anyone who saw the scene, it would be easy to assume that the agitation on his pale features and the way his shoulders aggressively slumped forward was because his mum had been crying, dad had made a big to-do about this being his last time giving him soup for the train, and grandpa had been....grandpa. Something that was only made worse by the fact that he was so easily distinguishable as Minister for Magic...even without the booming voice and horrifying display of his BABY pictures right in the middle of the crowded platform.
Now everyone had seen his baby eclair.
Thanks. Just. Yeah. Let's add to his misery.
While the assumptions were not incorrect, there was a much deeper more self-loathing reason for his embarrassment. And that was the simply fact that he was boarding this train...without a badge. It was stupid and childish to feel such resentment over the fact, particularly when he had spent the majority of his Hogwarts career rejecting the very notion of it solely because both his parents had been prefects and he did not want his path at Hogwarts to fall under their shadows. Everything had to be of his own merit, his own making.
Now...he would give just about anything to have that, to be walking in their shadow, and he hadn't realized it until ... it hadn't even been presented to him as an option. And now he felt a deep disconnect from ... his bloodline?
Making his way on to the train, Eiji did everything he could to put distance between himself and the prefect compartment. He had even considered riding in the luggage compartment but he quickly veto'd that. Instead he found himself an empty compartment and flopped himself down on one of the seats. He didn't care to see the view outside the train, so he pulled down the shade and just...stared ahead at the vacant seat in front of him.

This was only her second ride on the Hogwarts Express, but it was still a significant day for her. The final trip to school for the final year of education. What would she be doing on September 1 next year? She had no idea, though she was certain that she would not be kissing her parents goodbye on Platform 9¾. The uncertainty of the future was both frightening and exciting.
Jina boarded the train more confidently than she did the previous year. She was no longer a new transfer student, and she had friends! She made her way down the train, looking into the compartments for a place to sit. When she saw Eiji, she hesitated for a moment - she was not very close with him - but she noticed that he looked kinda miserable, with the shades down and just staring into space. He must be sad about it already being his final year, especially since he was attending Hogwarts for all seven years. She knew that Hogwarts was a second home for many of her classmates and they were sad to leave. Perhaps some company would cheer him up.
"Hope you don't mind," she said as she took the vacant seat opposite him and carefully placed her new owl cage (containing her new pet owl) on the seat beside her. "Hey I saw your baby pictures at the platform. You were adorable!"

There were a lot of thoughts floating around in Nina’s head. Some of which had to do with the ever-present fear of leaving Hogwarts at the end of this term and others having to do with friends who wouldn’t be here to share this year with her. Fortunately, however, she was in much higher spirits today than she had been on the last train ride. Of course there were still lingering sentiments of disappointment when she hadn’t received a badge, but for the most part Nina was quite excited to be going back to Hogwarts. While the WU summer program was (for the most part) enjoyable, she missed seeing her friends every day. And admittedly, Eloise Fairfield was a far better roommate than the one Nina had over the summer.
While she missed most everyone, there were a few people she missed more than others... which is why she immediately slid open the door to this particular compartment. ”Hello, Jina.” Nina gave the girl a polite nod as she moved to sit across from her and next to Eiji. ”Hey.”
What was this about baby photos? She raised her brows at the mention of it. Nina hadn’t been there when such a thing had happened, but she was sure that if his photos really were on display, Eiji was not happy about it. She figured this was more than that though.Even before fully stepping inside, Nina Castillo could tell that something was wrong. Her friend was upset about something, even if it weren’t absolute obvious by the way he sulked next to the window (and he thought her to be dramatic, honestly). Instead of saying anything yet though, she simply leaned in a bit, and for a brief moment, touched her shoulder to his, letting him know that she was here for him and that if he needed to talk he knew he had her.

Her luggage was stowed away and all that Claudine had in her possession now were the carrier cases, one in each hand. She had wanted to bring her sketchpad and crayon alo but wasn’t sure how she’d fetch them. As inconspicuous as she could be, she carried the cases all the way down to the back of the train. There were a ton of familiar faces but she didn’t see Cole. In any case, even if she did, there was no chance of her being able to stop for a chat given her responsibility.
Finally, she let herself into an empty compartment and allowed her to ease the burdens by placing the cases on two of the seats. That being done, she sat down on one opposite as Sammy scrambled down from her shoulder to her lap. “You two continue to be on your best behaviour,’’ she coaxed the crups in the cases. Samm chittered in apparent agreement.
Claudine sat back, turning her head to look out of the window.

Bernie had been up and down this train already, had changed into her school robes, had annoyed some people, AND had bought a fat stack of candy for the ride. Now all she had to do was find Claudine so that her nerves could take a break.
On her third pass through the back of the train, which made her wary because of all the BIG KIDS back here, she FINALLY spotted someone with two cat carriers and a rat. Had to be Claudine, had to be. Bernie quietly slid open the door to the compartment and shuffled in, sliding the door shut behind her before she sat down between the crups' carriers.
"Hey," she greeted the other girl, trying to be as SERIOUS and SNEAKY as possible, even though she felt giggly and nervous and excited to be going back to school. She quickly focused her attention on the carriers so as not to annoy Claudine. "Which one's mine? Were they good all summer?" She didn't mean HER hers, she just meant the one she'd cuddled and bonded with at the Magical Menagerie.

Three years of departures to school was more than enough for Nem to see that the first of September would never not be a day of total chaos. It wasn't helped, either, by timing of the brats' birthdays, nor by M&D's insistence on celebrating despite the fact that none of them would even remember it. The focus of the last couple of days had had to be split between a sorry excuse of a family party, and the preparations for the return to Hogwarts.
Last year only the paternal half of M&D had been there to see Nem and Pax off, but this time they had a full unit. Both parents were present (all six ankle-biters were with off some friend or other), because little baby Ezra was boarding the train for the first time and apparently that was a big deal. Nem had decided to fully embrace the role of afterthought, and slipped away and onto the train with a wink to Pax before either parent could notice. As such, there had been no dramatic goodbyes on his part, and no pointless warnings to behave and look after the precious little snowflake and whatever else M&D liked to bleat on about.
Trunk stowed away in the luggage compartment, Nem was now on the hunt for somewhere to while away the hours of the journey; Pax would either be along eventually or she'd be off plotting and executing some scheme for the whole train ride, time would tell. In the meantime, Nem moved down the train corridor, glancing into compartments, and scraping something hard and metallic all the way down the wall and doors as he went with an obnoxious scriiitch. He'd already seen multiple empty compartments and vetoed all of them, preferring to find somewhere that allowed for a little more entertainment.

The tiny little Gryffindor had managed to find the unthinkable. An empty compartment – not one of those almost empty compartments where one or two people sat in silence – but an actual empty – empty compartment. It almost looked lonely, the compartment not the lack of people. It was as if the windows were crying for attention – and so, she went in.
Thrusting the window open and situating herself next to it she couldn’t help but smile as she looked out the window. “I wonder whose gonna join us Monty” she told the bright pink pgymypuff that sat curled on her lap.

The train was SO much fun! Noah was really enjoying his time and it had all worked out because he had found the nice trolley lady and gotten snacks from her. Now the rest of the ride would prove to be a breeze. He took a walk and ended up towards the back of the train. He hated just sitting idly for hours so the movement was much needed- his achy legs thanked him for going on and about whereas his feet were not too happy. Eh. Whatever.
The ex-Pukwudgie continued walking down the corridor until he caught something - well - someone out of the corner of his eye. Wait, was that ... It was. He opened the door and popped his head in before rather cheekily saying, "Causing trouble already?" If so, he may want in... only if it wouldn't get him into too, too much trouble.

It didn't take long for Morgan to find an empty compartment. Sure, he had wanted to sit with his friends, but he hadn't immediately seen any when he got on the train and he managed to find this prime spot that he knew he had to claim or someone else would. And he was sure Kool Kat Kale or one of his other bros and best mates would be along shortly. Or he'd go looking for them. He wasn't about to just sit and wait. How boring would that be?
He set his trunk up on the seat, so if he did leave to look for his friends, people would know this compartment was taken. See? Thinking ahead. And he waited a moment or two, debating on whether he should stay or be proactive and find someone, when he heard a strange, but interesting noise from outside his compartment.
Morgan paused a moment to focus on the sound, then hopped up off the seat and poked his head out of the door to see where it was coming from. And his eyes quickly found the source of it - his good friend with the cool name, Nemesis!
"Hey, Nem!" he grinned, beckoning his fellow third year over and trying to see just what he had that was making that scritching noise. "Come on, I got a compartment with plenty of room." They could still have a few more join them, but he could start with his Slytherin pal.

Okay, okay so the train ride was a little slow today…or maybe it always was? They had to go practically across the country right?...or was it more than one country – she didn’t really know. All she knew was that somehow during the time she had lost count on the book she had picked up to read only to set them down with a thump.
WHY WAS HER BRAIN LIKE THIS RIGHT NOW? So restless like there was a menagerie of squirrels running amock up there and tossing everything around? WHY?
She hadn’t noticed the door opening at first – and it was right then that she had let out quite an audible groan as she tossed a book across the room – OH NO, PLEASE DON’T HIT HIM she flailed as she saw Noah walking in. Her brown eyes widening in shock. ”Ffffphhht – I …um no no not casing trouble” she gave him a somewhat panic’d mouse stuck in a maze face. ”…did I – did it hit you?” she mumbled her face already reddening.

Well he was about to say how good it was to see a familiar face when...
WHACK!
And much to her dismay, the book hit the poor boy on his right shoulder, causing him to lose balance and fall on his back. He laid on the ground momentarily as he winced in pain before sitting up. "What do you think?" he asked, rather sharply as he rubbed his right shoulder. It really hurts. Noah still remained on the ground, rubbing his sore neck and shoulder before trying to stand up.
There was flailing and screaming…who was screaming WHO WAS SCREAMING oh it was her. The panick still hadn’t subsided as she dashed off of her seat and ran toward him.

What did she need…what could she do to help. ”stay” she paused ”sorry I didn’t mean it like that but, stay” she shuffled away from him, full on crawling as she reached into her backpack pulling a lunchpail out as well as an ice-pack. ooph cold cold cold cold cold”here, this. Cole had shuffled onto the Hogwarts express some minutes ago after his sister, carrying both their trunks on this chilly September morning. Isobel had left him with a hug and 'stop being so pouty bro' before she had disappeared off to find her friends in the back of the train. He had safely stowed the away their trunks and was now only carrying around his backpack and cat carrier whilst looking for an empty compartment. Cole was really not in the mood to socialize with anyone, but getting to ride the train alone was a luxury he didn't envision would happen on this ride. There we're too many students and too few compartments to go around.
Going up and down the train, Cole looked for somewhere to sit when he came across an empty compartment in the middle section. He pushed opened the door and went in to sit down on the seat, letting his new orange cat out of her carrier as he did so. He stroked Lily distractedly behind the ears, before he pulled out a book about dragons and started to read.

It was difficult for anything to escape Nem's notice in such a cramped space as the train corridor, provided it happened directly in front of him. So, when one of the doors opened a few compartments down and McCarthy stuck his head out, Nem saw immediately. There was no need to get accustomed to how much he may have changed over the summer either, as he had seen him only days ago, at his birthday party. Nem and Pax had both gone, of course. Free entertainment.
"Hey Morgan," Nem said, matching his grin with ease and closing down the distance, quitting the wall-scratching and slipping his 'new' ring onto his thumb - the only digit it even remotely stayed on right now. Nem joined McCarthy in the compartment and dropped into a seat. "No partner in crime yet then?" Trent, of course, with the unfortunate father and the even more unfortunate first name. With any luck it would be some time before he showed up; Trent was good for sport, but all his singing and dramatics tried Nem's patience just that bit too much, and it just wasn't healthy. For Trent.
McCarthy was slightly more tolerable, and also happened to be good sport. There was just something about these Gryffindors.

The Makarios were decided to be together, not only to shop at Diagon Alley, but also to take their daughter to her 1st Hogwarts Express ride. Alexandro had just returned from a very complicated exploration in which his job was to curse-break around historical ruins in Macedonia. Thankfully the mission was paused as a new permit was needed to enter a royal tomb.
Megan was a healer, she had just started her own small business assisting witches give birth in their homes, hospitals were definitely not her type of work environment. Also for their luck, there were no babies scheduled to be born on her appointment list at this date.
The whole family arrived at King's Cross at 10:30 AM. Going through platform 9 and 10 brought Allison's parents beautiful memories and goose bumps. They couldn't believe how time flew by. Allie was wearing her best summer dress and comfy sneakers, she loaded her trunk and owl on top of a station trolley with the help of her father and together the three of them ran towards and through the wall into platform 9 3/4.
It was a dream-like scene, the steam and the people running around, friends meeting again, parents and grandparents saying goodbye. There were a lot of emotions being exchanged in that place. "Remember (purposeful tense pause), you have my blood in your veins and there is no way that sorting hat will place you in the wrong house. You will do great, and your mom and I will be an owl away!" She gave a tight hug on her dad and held some tears from falling down. Allie was really nervous about the sorting ceremony and wanted to prove herself to be the best daughter they could have ever asked for. Except, she already was.
"Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle, remember that my baby. You don't need to change to fit in, the right people will accept you the way you are. Your dad has an inflated ego besides being a great actor too, yes, he is my favorite person in the word after you, but it's not all about the house you get sorted into, you wouldn't be doomed if you happened to go to Hufflepuff, like myself." Her mom gave her a huge reassuring motherly hug and threw a look at her dad for having so many set expectations on Allie.
Unable to speak up words, Allie walked towards the back of the train and after she found an empty cabin she pressed her face against the window and waived goodbye cheerfully to her parents. It was a bittersweet moment. She loved her parents, but she also loved the idea of facing life on her own for a few months.
After the engine started and the train departed she wished there was someone to share the ride with. They say you meet your true forever friends on your first ride to Hogwarts... I wish I could say the same happened to me. She pulled out a chocolate frog from her hand bag and started to enjoy it while looking at the card, not really reading it, but lost in la la land.

As he lay on the ground, Noah contemplated this moment as well as how his conversation with his parents would go later today. So Noah how was your first day....? He'd shrug and reply. Oh, it was great minus the fact that someone flung a book at my face. It was fine. I survived. Accidents happen.
He grimaced. “No, no, it’s fine.” Noah shrugged his shoulders and slowly sat up, gently touching the side of his head. Oh.. She had gotten an icepack. He offered her a small smile. “…Thanks… It was just an accident.” He placed the ice pack on his neck .”So what book did you throw… that was pretty heavy.”

Well, Claudine was as thrilled as ever to see her. Bernie didn't really worry about mincing words with the Slytherin; she already knew that Claudine hated her. Instead, Bernie just focused on calmly undoing the cat carrier with her crup in it.
The h*ck with being cautionary right meow; she needed the comfort of her pup, so she held him in her arms and smiled at his licks, and didn't say anything else to Claudine. But she did, also, start watching the scenery through the window, clearly not going anywhere just yet. She'd said she was going to help Claudine get them to the castle, and so she was going to stick to her word.

He stroked Lily distractedly behind the ears, before he pulled out a book about dragons and started to read.
Sometime after the meeting in the Prefect's compartment was over and after he'd made sure Art was okay, Lucas decided to wander around the train on his own. He wouldn't say no to sitting with someone else - especially someone he felt comfortable around - but right now, he was just looking for an empty compartment with some peace and quiet, thanks.
Besides, Art probably didn't want his older brother hanging around, did-
............ oh?
His current train of thought came to an immediate stop and he came to a stop when he peered into this particular compartment. Was that.....? But why was he sitting on his own? Didn't he normally have people to hang out with? As far as he knew, this dormmate of his seemed like a social person - not as much as Józef but, well, yeah.
The Gryffindor wasted almost no time in pulling open the door and flopping down onto the seat opposite Cole. "Enjoying your book?" he asked, shooting the boy a cheeky grin as he lay on his side, his head resting on his hand.
Had it been a ring that made that weird scritching sound? Morgan craned his neck a bit to try to peek at the Slytherin's hand as he approached, but it was soon forgotten, at least for the moment, in favor of conversation as they stepped back into the compartment. And now that he was going to be staying in here for the time being, he shoved his trunk off the seat and onto the floor to make sure there was plenty of room for the two of them and anyone else who wanted to join - as long as the current occupants were okay with them joining too.
"Huh?" Morgan looked up from his fallen trunk, momentarily confused by his meaning. "Oh! You mean Kale? No, I haven't seen him yet." That thought prompting him to turn his eyes to the windows facing the corridor. "I bet he will be along soon though." It would be totally weird if he wasn't, but... oh, wait, wasn't his little sister coming this year? Maybe he had to show her around and sit with her and stuff. Boring.
"You can be my partner in crime until he gets here, if you want," he added with a grin. Whatever that meant, but it sounded cool.

SPOILER!!: Jina & Nina

He had half a mind to inquire whether or not it actually mattered if he did because she was already sitting across from him now.....and saying that of all things. One edge enough because of his own thoughts, he nearly snapped at the Ravenclaw. So close to it, but he was ... slightly better a person than to do that. Especially when she was still somewhat new and no one who had done in any harm before. As well as Missa's roommate. He shrugged his shoulders and offered both her and her owl a sort of cursory glance. "Yeah. Wonder what happened," he sighed in response to her compliment and in reference to the past tense. "Grandpa tends to get a bit carried away."
Thankfully none of these pictures has surfaced during his campaign trail to Minister or otherwise. Now he just had to hope that the Prophet had not been following grandpa's tracks so that they could include him in the annual write-up regarding back to school. Maybe he would just avoid reading this week's, or month's, paper. There were sure to be quotes if not pictures.
His shoulders relaxed a bit as Nina joined them, which in some ways forced him to reform his behavior somewhat.
But only somewhat.
"Hey, Nina," he greeted with a slightly more genuine glance as he shifted a little so he was closer to the window. "You fancy a bowl of soup? I think its tomato."

Noah had been hurt by her – that…that hurt, like more than the book probably did. If she had seen that letter or the call she would probably have flailed and told them it was a mistake – she hadn’t meant to hurt him.
At least…it wasn’t his face right? She hadn’t like broken broken him right? Just…hurt. Possibly more than he was letting on but BOY she hoped not. ”…I mean, I’d hope so I don’t know anyone who lobs books at people…especially heavy ones” she looked at him for a minute. ”a…..uh victor hugo’s les mis? So yeah…heavy covers it” she shrugged her shoulder and looked at him.
”you want a sandwich?”

LES MIS? She threw LES MIS at HIM!?!
Oh mon dieu.
No wonder he felt the hit. Les Mis was a sturdy book. Noah held the ice pack, relishing in the coolness against his aching neck. Yes, it felt good- so good. He closed his eyes momentarily, taking a deep breath as he enjoyed the calm. Opening his eyes, he quirked an eyebrow at Islay. Dare he say that he almost felt bad that she felt so bad about what had transpired. He wouldn't let her remain like this for too long. It was an accident.
"Les Mis is a hefty read... I assume you got to a tragic or frustrating part?" he asked, glancing at her. "A classic like that doesn't deserve the damage of being flung across a compartment." Come on, Islay, respect Hugo in his grave. Sure it was long and depressing but he was a staple of many classrooms' literature classes.
He nodded. A sandwich would be an apt repayment. "What kind?"

SHE didn’t MEAN to!?
Yes, it was a heavy book which…well, was probably why it had arcked the way it had hitting him in the shoulder instead of somewhere more painful. Like the face. merlin if that had happened she’d have to explain why the new transfer kid had a black eye.
That would be fun.
Explaining to their head of house that no, she had not tried to hurt him. GOOD he took the ice pack, good, that made her feel better. ”I haven’t even gotten that far – I think I was still reading one of the parts from 1815?” she admitted with a sheepish smile and a sigh. ”I got…I don’t know look” she pointed at the book, with a sigh ”my…toddler cousin had ripped some of it out when I was sitting for her” she admitted with a pout, a pout that stayed in place until he asked what kind of sandwiches she had.
With that question she just shrugged her shoulder, ”I just – there are a few…my dad, I just met him so he made too many sandwiches…he doesn’t know what I like so far and wanted me to share them too? I guess.” she shrugged as she opened the tin to show the stack of assorted sandwiches – if she wanted she probably could have fed herself for a week. ”there’s…a bacon butty, also blts…a cucumber sandwich – and if I didn’t like any of that even marmalade – like straight out of Paddington.” she shrugged and tipped her head at him ”I think he was five minutes from adding a toast sandwich to the lot when we had to leave”.
