The walls in the first-floor corridor are covered in tapestries and, hung over them, are portraits of numerous wizards and wizards. Whether you are trying to get to class or are just browsing around, the portraits here will try to start up a conversation with you. If you manage to get on their good side, they'll be willing to reveal secret passageways, share the latest school gossip, and more.
If you have time to spare, definitely go on a brief tangent from whatever it is you are doing. Google Stump is your man to go to if you're looking for answers about the mysteries of the castle; Beaumont Marjoribanks can tell you everything there is to know about gillyweed; and Elizabeth Burke ... well, it would be best to just avoid her for reasons that will be obvious should you strike up a discussion with her about magical blood status. There are other portraits here as well, each with their own unique personalities, and figures from other portraits happen to invade their frames from time to time.
LE SIGH. Things were so incredibly BORING around here, which was such a shame because you'd think with the students being back, it would be like a 24/7 soap opera! But NOPE! No one ever looked at the portrait of the small blonde witch, with perfectly styled curls and a blue ribbon in her hair, because that stupid Sir Cadogan was so loud and demanded everyone's attention. The setting of her portrait - her comfortable, but utterly boring English cottage in the countryside - didn't help. No one ever paid her any attention. She just wanted some entertainment! Some socialization!
So, the young blonde witch - whose name was Roberta, not that anyone had ever bothered to ask - was perched on the side of her frame, making very LOUD and obnoxious HUFFING noises any time anyone passed. Someone come talk to her!

Blake was making his way to class. He liked to be early .. ever the studious lad he was.... or rather he just wanted to make sure he didn't have to sit by someone he didn't like, when he heard a rather LOUD huffing sound. Was that directed at him? What on earth could have have done deserve that noise. Expecting it to be the care taker complains about dirty shoes or something Blake looked up and noticed that it was a portrait making all that noise.
Jeez... "Do you need help with something?" He asked, clearly the portrait was after something.... after the rumors Blake heard about Helga and Godgric roaming the halls.... Blake shuddered at the thought of her walking straight out of her frame. He took a step back just in case she did just that.

Jillian was walking around with her morning duties. By now, she's actually getting the hang of it- walking around the castle and just making sure that most students are not doing any shenanigans. Simple. She was preoccupied first thing in the morning with her yoga and breakfast mostly. Can't really start the way with proper exercise and some yummy breakfast... mostly the breakfast part she barely does any yoga anyway.
She has a bit of time to spare so she made a detour toward the first floor and into the portraits. There were a lot of portraits in this area- it was just a place that she doesn't normally loiter around since then. She then found one of the Slytherins looking up at a particular painting. Walking towards him and smiled "Hello there!" she greeted the second year first trying to remember his name. He's quite familiar.... Hmmmm… Oh riiight! "Blake Ryan" she added. Before she could ask him what he was doing, her eyes glanced over to the painting.
Ahhh yes, Roberta. She looks upset? Perhaps bored? Her sulking does indicate this. "Good day. Are you okay?" she asks.

Roberta looked at the boy who approached her frame, eager at first to have a conversation with him. Then, he went and said THAT, and he sounded...annoyed with her? She was doing NOTHING annoying of the sort! She was just minding her own business in the frame!
"I'm TRYING to be entertained here and quite frankly, you Hogwarts students are failing to do so. Miserably," she told him, flipping her blonde curls over her shoulder.
She looked at the newcomer, who at least had the decency to ask how she was doing today. "Thank you for asking! No one ever asks!" Roberta said dramatically, leaning against her frame and touching her hand to her forehead for added emphasis on how exhausting this all was.
Then, suddenly, in a bright flash of light enveloped the corridor, and when it faded seconds later - Roberta was standing in the corridor, in front of her frame, looking around in confusion.
As for the boy and girl? They were BOTH currently inhabiting her painting - standing right there, in front of her English cottage, utterly trapped by the canvas.

The Charms professor had just been on his way to the Charms classroom after grabbing an apple from the kitchens. He was going over some lesson plans as he munched on the apple, heading down the corridor towards his classroom when, in his peripheral vision, he noticed a bright flash of light. That usually meant there was a student who tried to do a spell too big and busted their wand, honestly.
But as he arrived on the scene, all Piers saw was a lady with blonde curls standing beside a picture frame. She was wearing quite the costume too, it seemed a bit... Victorian.
Wait.
Piers stopped and looked at the woman. And then looked at the portrait.. to see two students inside. Then he looked back at the blonde woman, profound confusion written on his face. "How... did you do that?" The concern for the students would come LATER, ok, right now he was just VERY curious.

Curtis was still on the hunt for Betsy, it had been some time since he was given the task of locating her. His grandfather was going to be sorely disappointed let alone his own parents once they get word of this. His eyes were on the ground as he sped walk when- "Ooof!"
"Watch it-oh... nevermind. I'm sorry, Professor." Curtis said, when he caught sight of his dad. No way was he going to sass him. He could see his dad just staring at some lady. Whoever that lady was, she was dressed weird. Really weird and staring at a picture. A picture of... "Whoa... I didn't know you could do that Dad. That's so cool." Scary, but cool. Did he just punish some of his housemates?
Hang on... No way, they were too nice. Curtis knew Blake from their sundae pig-out in the kitchens and recognized that older girl who greeted him at the beginning feast. "What happened?" More importantly, why? Suddenly, he was standing closer to bigger Charms Professor.

Blake smiled at the girl who joined him. And then the portrait was upset by something?? Dear Merlin what had he done? He had asked her if she needed something. "I was just checking to make sure you were alright!" Blake added, and then there was a flash of light that blinded him and the then he was under some mass confusion.
It looked the blonde girl from the portrait was on the floor in front of him. He reached his hand out to help her up but what stopped short by what felt like a wall.... Wait ... Why would there be an invisible wall in front of him. He looked and noticed the other girl was there with him. "What happened?" He asked her. And then he noticed the Charms Professor in front of him. "Professor please, help what's happening?" Could he even be heard... he was trapped in the portrait ... what was he going to do? He felt like crying ... he wasn't above it .. and it might still happen.

Ugh. Of course, she's one of those whiny paintings. There's a lot of them here, then again Jillian would have felt the same way if she was stuck in a painting for her entire life in an area of the castle where students and professors barely pass by. Jillian stayed near the second year Slytherin, there was no need for this chit-chat. It was time for the both of them to get to class.
She gave Roberta a polite smile when she responded, attempting to ignore her this time and redirecting her attention to her fellow Slytherin. Just when she was about to tell him to go to class- a bright light flashed before her eyes. She closed her eyes for a quick second and when she opened them everything felt.... odd. Different weird. She turned her head and saw that Blake was still next to her. Okay, good. She looked forward and saw Roberta standing where they were standing earlier. Jillian had a bad feeling about this.
"Uhmm" she hummed under her breath, trying to be calm but she feared her gut-feeling was right all along... "We're inside the painting, are we?" she whispered to Blake. it was a rhetorical question. This is great. Just G R E A T. This is why she never talks to portraits. Unbelievable!
Thank Merlin! Their head of the house to the rescue...… and his son. "Professor, She swapped us!" were the first words out of her mouth. Clearly this was not their doing. This portrait was just bored and wants to be entertained. She's trying not to panic really. Blake looks terrified- IS terrified already and she doesn't want to add to that. As prefect, she needs to calm for the both of them.
A way to get out? She has no idea yet. Help, Professor!
The young girl blinked, staring at her hands and slowly turning in a circle as she took in her surroundings. What had happened?! One second she had been trapped in the portrait and now...she was in the corridor!
Oh, and the two students - the RUDE one and the nice one - were trapped in her painting! How peculiar. Quite frankly, the boy deserved this.
Roberta remained relatively calm - she heard the girl ACCUSE her of somehow being behind this! She was just as rude as the boy!
"I did NO such thing! I am innocent!" Roberta said, stomping her foot in irritation.

Piers stumbled forward a bit when Curtis ran right into him, but was otherwise undisturbed. To be quite honest, he was still trying to figure out how the lady in the portrait got out and how once of his prefects and another student got trapped inside. He would have thought it was a prank of some sort of the kids inside the frame hadn't been panicking about it.
"I'm not quite sure," Piers responded to Curtis, eyes moving back and forth between the students and the lady before realizing... he was the adult here. He had to fix this.
"Errr, hold on there kids, just a moment. No need to panic." Then he turned to the lady in the old dress. "Come on. I don't know how you did that, but you need to undo it. Get 'em out of there." Because he didn't want to have to write to two kids parents and let them know that their child would be returning home in a picture frame.
Blake turned toward his Prefect. "Jillian are we going to get out of here?" Blake was pushing on the edges of the frame trying to see if he could get a portion of it up to get out. He had no idea if that was even possible. This shouldn't have been possible. Why oh why did Blake stop to talk to that girl. That would be the absolute LAST time he would talk to a portrait ever.
"Professor please get us out." He added, he was still unsure if their head of house could hear them or not... did it just look like he was mouthing the words..... Blake wanted out and now ...

Jillian needed to think but obviously she's also not sure with what had happened. She was standing in the corridor and then the next second she was transported inside the frame. Is this some kind of joke? Because it is not funny at all. Hopefully the professor can help them with whatever this is.
She glanced back at the second year and shrugged. "The professor is already here, everything will be okay." she replied. Blake needed to hear it. If she panics, he WILL panic as well. "Don't worry, we will be out before you know it" see? positive vibes.
Blink. Blink.
So it wasn't Roberta's doing? This was bad. Jillian listened as the professor started questioning Roberta about what happened. Hopefully she knows because Jillian doesn't like being inside this frame. She wants to get out!
The AUDACITY the professor had! Accusing Roberta of somehow having a hand in this! There were so many reasons that that idea was absolutely absurd. For one, she didn't even have a wand - let alone any way of performing magic. She was just a portrait - who had someone become real and gotten out. But not because of anything SHE did!
Of course, the ability to rationalize with the man was already gone, as all Roberta could see now was RED as she glared at the man. Had the man ever stopped to talk to her? No? So he didn't know ANYTHING about her and had the nerve to accuse her of this!!
"I didn't do anything! I was just minding my business, hoping someone would come talk to me, and then there was a flash and I was out here!" she exclaimed.

Well, this was weird. Really weird. How could people pop out of the portraits and switch with real-life people? Curtis stared at everyone and everything. He didn't want to end up in their situation. Wouldn't they get hungry or need to use the bathroom? Talk about awkward on top of frightening.
As loud as she was, Curtis felt pity for her. Being misunderstood by people was something he knew all too well. "I believe you. But you didn't want to leave where you were before, right?" If so, this would be a quite convenient time for wishes to come true. "What should we do........ Professor?" Yes, this was really weird to still refer to his dad as such in public. But appearances were important. Was there some secret spell to undo whatever happened?

The students were panicking and the lady from the portrait was being less than helpful as was his son. He didn't want anyone to panic even more, so Piers was TRYING to handle this in a calm way. "Well, why don't you hope yourself right back into the frame, eh?" Because SHE belonged inside of it, not the students. And he had things to go do, he couldn't just hang about all day.
Piers gave a glance to his son, who was awkwardly calling him Professor."Shouldn't you be on your way to class?" he asked.
Why was everyone being so MEAN to her today?! This was just the worst. Roberta was going to sit in her cottage for at LEAST a week crying now. She wouldn't come out at all to say hi to the students, no she wouldn't - but how did she get back in to the portrait? She had no idea how she had gotten out of it in the first place!
Her bottom lip trembling, she looked at the mean professor and stomped her foot. "You're all SO RUDE! I didn't do anything!" she exclaimed. She turned to her portrait and glared at the two students who had started all this mess.
"I bet THEY did it!" she exclaimed. THEY were the magical students after all. If they wouldn't admit them, she'd get them to! She charged at the portrait, hoping to scare them...but instead, she tripped over her own two feet (it was hard to be 3D, ok) and she fell face first into the portrait. Another blinding flash of light, and Roberta was back in her frame - and the two students were standing in the hallway once again.
Blake felt a dazed ... and that portrait girl was accusing them of doing this??? "I wouldn't do this!! I don't want to be in your stupid portrait!" Blake shouted ... still unsure if they could hear him on the outside or not!!! But then she ran at the frame and another blinding flash of light and he was back on the outside sitting on the ground in a crumpled mess......
Raising to his feet he look at his head of house. "We didn't do anything." He added, now that he was on the outside and could speak again. "I'm getting out of here." Blake exclaimed .. he was ready to be as far from any kind of portrait as possible! In face he never wanted to see another frame again.

Curtis decided to ignore that question his father asked. He was confused on it if anything considering classes weren't active right then. After all, there were more pressing matters like Betsy running on the loose. "We're rude? You're being rude right now, miss. Don't talk about the Professor here like that." Curtis didn't like being told he was something by someone he didn't even know. That was rude. Oh, and she did call his dad rude when he was actually trying to help.
He began to laugh when she tripped over into the wall but stopped midway when he saw a flash and... Hazaah. His housemates were back. "You know what.. I'm out of here too." Before that lady portrait decided to change her mind and take them back. So with that, he followed Blake out of the hall. Maybe Betsy went somewhere else.

Jaw drop.
Jillian can't believe what she is hearing at the moment. Her eyebrow raised and her facial expression- absolutely shocked. She looked back at the professor and shook her head because the accusation was unbelievable. "I can assure you WE didn't do anything" emphasis on the 'we' there. But she was quite intrigued as to how this happened. Surely she sorta trusts Roberta's claim that she 'didn't know what happened'.
She watched Roberta come nearer to them and suddenly tripped. Jillian bit her upper lip lightly in the attempt to NOT laugh or so much a soft giggle at this. This woman is quite sensitive right now and it is best not to do anything rash. As soon as her face hit the portrait, the same bright light happened just like earlier and the next thing she knew she's outside the portrait....?
Her eyes roamed around, she was practically circling--- WHOAH! This is real right? Her eyes blinked for a few times and she heaved a sigh of relief. She was absolutely scared for a moment there- that she might get stuck inside the portrait for awhile. "Oh thank merlin!" she uttered with glee, a grin now plastered on her face. "are you alright?" she asked the younger Slytherin but the boy was already ready to leave right this second. She can't blame him at all. She would do the same thing.
"Professor..." she looked at him not really knowing what to say next other than "Thank you" she added. For being here with them. Who knows what would have happened if he wasn't there when it happened. Honestly she also wanted to ask if he was okay too. Boy oh boy, what a day!
