 At the very top of the West Tower is where all owls, whether belonging to you individually or the school, reside. As you ascend the tower and its many stairs, constant hooting can be heard and you can feel the temperature gradually dropping. Once you open the door, you can feel a draft blowing straight at you because there is no glass where the windows would be. A few owls flutter in and out of the windows as the door closes.
Stepping deeper into the owlery, hundreds of owls lining the walls in their little nooks turn their head at you. Some even swoop down from their perches to say hello in the hopes that you'll give them a few owl treats that are in a closed bag inside a drawer of an old wooden desk that was placed in the centre of the room. If you investigate the desk further, you will find spare ink, quills, and parchment should you need to write a letter on the spot if you aren't here to just check up on the owls. Pellets, old animal skeletons, belladonna berries, and owl droppings cover the floor, so watch your step.

This was the worst place in the ENTIRE castle. Nina was absolutely sure of it. She hated the owlery so much!!! And hated Navid even more for being the reason why she had to frequent it every other day. No, she didn't hate him. She couldn't ever do that, even when they weren't on speaking terms. She loved him far too deeply to ever find hate in her heart for him.
But she did hate the owls. That much she knew for a fact.
She was also very afraid of them.
Which is why she stood at the base of the stairs, mustering up the strength to go inside. It wouldn't be that bad. It wouldn't be that bad. It wouldn't be that bad.

It was a weird, but not surprising - Nina was unreadable as ever, and Missa had learned to live with it. Initially she had been curious, but now it felt tiring to overthink why Nina acted the way she did.

Reaching inside her pocket, she pulled out the letter addressed to her dad, before looking around for a suitable owl for the job.

"Not really. Christmas holidays are very family oriented, so it will just mostly be that" she said honestly, - no need to be mysterious for no reason after all. Deciding on a snowy Owl - the girl carefully approached one, and pulled out a small treat for him - gently gesturing him closer.
"Are you debating sending this letter off?" she asked, after a moment's pause. Maybe Missa could offer some help in deciding if she should or not - if that is infact Nina's problem right now.

Family was everything. Some part of her had perhaps taken them for granted too, but the value of it was deeply instilled into her - which why a natural smile graced her lips at Nina's next question, "yeah, I miss my dad a lot, can't wait to see him." The mother and siblings came to a close second.
Although her hands were now busy petting and feeding the snowy owl in front of her, she did not miss when Nina finally moved.

With her new view from behind the entryway she could see how gentle Missa was with the owls. If they weren't owls Nina may have even found it sweet. But they were owls and therefore there was nothing sweet about them. The last time she had tried, she was attacked by an onset of them!
Asking for help, however, was ridiculously mortifying. The embarrassment was written plainly all over her face upon Missa's offer. Nina wanted to turn it down, but she also knew that this was Missa. Even if they weren't exactly friends, she knew the girl to be trustworthy. It was the next thing she said that made Nina nod her head. "Yes," her voice was a little softer this time. "Yes, please."
