P H A S E _T W O: Midpoint Check-In. *permission required before posting
Maybe you're exhausted because you were up all night with a crying child. Maybe you've found a new best friend in the form of your plastic bundle-of-joy. Regardless of how you're feeling, your time with the baby is soon to be approaching its end. That's right! You've made it to the halfway point of your assignment! Your Professor has asked that you stop by his classroom at some point during your week in order to go through the midpoint assessment and check-in. Hope you've been taking good care of your little one!
The classroom is set up with various tables. On each table you will find extra supplies to restock your baby-bag incase you're running low on any of your necessities. Your Professor has asked that you take a seat and wait for him to come to you. Feel free to fill up on your essentials and hang tight because Finneas will head your way momentarily to ask you a few questions and conduct the midpoint assessment on your babydoll.
OOC: You can only post here if you were given permission to do so. If you were not given permission to post, your post will be deleted. If you would like to take part in this assignment, head over to PHASE ONE first.
For this phase you are required to LINK 1 OUTSIDE POST that has your character with their baby. A short RP will be done in this thread in order to complete this phase and move to the next.
This thread will stay open for the duration of the assignment (until march 26). I suggest starting on this phase ASAP so that you have as much time as you need, but there's no set framework of when you need to post, all up to your individual needs.
IMPORTANT: If choosing to co-parent, please coordinate posting in here with your partner. Co-parenting is not required, just another opportunity to interact with your classmates.

Each student (or pair, if choosing to co-parent) will receive one baby doll to take care of over the course of the next 3 months & 1 baby bag containing all the essentials for babycare
What to know about the dolls? With the aid of technology, the dolls have been programed to dirty nappies, need burping, sleep, get hungry, cry, etc. They have a mechanism that records all sounds and a way to alert your Professor should you think to take the doll apart in search of the recorder. The babies behave in a way that mirrors real children, and they respond to love and affection accordingly. They do not like to be left alone and are rather fragile.
What’s in the baby bag? Nappies, bottles, dummy/pacifier, baby food, baby powder, wipes and flannels, etc.
Over the course of the next 3 months, you must take your baby with you at all times. Take care to treat it with love (aka feeding it when hungry, burping it when needing a burp, soothing it when it cries, etc). You will be asked to check in with your Professor periodically on the status of your baby. By the end of the 3 month period you will be given a grade based upon how you treated your baby, the baby’s final physical state, and your overall effort in the assignment.
OOC Instructions
This long-term assignment will have 3 distinct phases that can be sequentially completed at any time. This means that you cannot move to phase 2 until you have completed phase 1. You cannot move to phase 3 until you have completed phase 2. For each phase a seperate thread will be made (ex. THIS thread is for PHASE 1). If you can’t jump in right when the thread opens, don’t fret! ALL threads will stay open until the final day of the assignment (March 26 2020).
For each phase of the assignment, you will simply have to post your character within the thread. I will post Finneas interacting with your character, which will in turn, be a short RP where he will ask questions or ask them to complete a simple task.
For the second and third phase, you will be required to provide 1 link to an outside RP in which the baby doll is mentioned, being taken care of, or used.
While I’m only requiring that you mention the doll in 2 RPs for the sake of the assignment, this could be such a fun opportunity if you’d like to take heed of it and use it for your own plotting purposes! Kid running his own babysitting business as a whole new way of paying a dude to do your homework? Bringing your child to class? Taking them on a casual stroll? HELP--I lost my child in the great lake! …… Lots of fun opportunities! If you can’t think of any come poke me and we can brainstorm together ^^
I will unlock the phase 3 thread once a few people have gone through phase 1 in order to stagger things. I’ll post notices on the noticeboard so you know when the threads have been opened!
This assignment will last until MARCH 26 @ 10 PM EST (gmt-5)

There was Cole now. Claudine was still being a little careful around him ever since their conversation in the music room. She was still secretly afraid that he didn’t understand her. She peeked at Christopher and smiled down at him. He was such a good baby. “I’m well, professor.’’ So, did this mean that Schmoe was now going to look over the baby to assess how good a job she and Cole had done?
Apparently not. Claudine glanced up at Cole, wondering how in the world he always had so much energy. Christopher was like that and she supposed that if Cole had any actual kids in the future, they would be as energetic as him. Maybe.
Mission steal someone else's baby to claim as there own hadn't exactly been successful yet. Cora wasn't worried though, they still had plenty of time to pull off a kidnapping and she doubted Mr S would notice the thing they'd bought along wasn't actually a baby.
In her arms, Cora held the burnt teddy bear. The good news was, it no longer resembled a burnt teddy bear. In an attempt to disguise it, it had been thoroughly wrapped up in toilet paper they had raided from the girl's bathroom. Anyone who used the second-floor loo was going to have a nasty surprise, oops.
"Remember," she lowered her voice and leaned closer to Shiv. "If he asks, we're just playing dress-up with the baby." If anything, they should get extra credit for being extra good parents. "Today's outfit is a mummy."
The baby was a mummy. Hilarious, right?
Aaaaaalright. This was it, the moment of truth.
Walking next to her co-parent (okay but for real, they should have a REAL LIFE baby together, they’d be such amazing parents...where did one get babies from?), Shivvy smiled at the professor in greeting before taking a seat at one of the empty desks.
“Yeeeeeeessss.” She drawled, lowering her voice too. ”I know.” They’d been over this. After someone had lost the real baby, they’d done their best to make the teddy bear look like a baby. Including almost burning it to a crisp. Eventually, after they’d successfully dressed it up as a mummy, Shivvy had forced one of the baby hats she’d received from home on top of the “baby”’s head. A neon green one. At least that would hide the bear’s ears.

Isla was about to speak up and reply to what Schmoe had said, when she saw Blake's defeated look. THERE. That look right there said it all. She listened to Blake and when he was done, she chimed in with her own thoughts. "Umm...I'm going to have to agree with Blake here. It might be just because I'm only twelve-years-old, but I'm just ready to give Ellie back to you," she admitted. She looked down. "I'm sorry, Professor."
She felt like she'd let him down, and worst of all, she was feeling like she let down a fake, plastic baby, too. "We have had a few small victories. I mean, we both got her quiet when she was crying at the top of her lungs," she said with a laugh. That had been a pretty rough moment for both of them. She honestly thought the resulting headache would never go away.

Apparently not. Claudine glanced up at Cole, wondering how in the world he always had so much energy. Christopher was like that and she supposed that if Cole had any actual kids in the future, they would be as energetic as him. Maybe.
Cole knew he was at fault for starting that argument with Claudine some day's ago about her touching people problem. Up until he had let his tongue slip up then they had had quite a good time together when they talked about how to care for Christopher best in the privacy of the music classroom. It had been fairly deserted on that time of day which had been good because there had been some raised voices between them. After that Cole had walked a little on eggshells around her when he'd encountered her. He understood Claudine's feelings it just wasn't something he was familiar with and he was trying to decide how to deal with it because he wanted them to keep being friends.
Cole let his mind drift from Professor Schmoe to Claudine to Christopher and back wondering what they we're supposed to do at this check up. Were they going to be assessed in some way as parents?

She has gotten used to the daily task that this fake baby needs although she knew that the real one would be 10 times harder.
Jillian woke up really great today, in fact she had one of her best sleep in weeks since she had the fake baby with her. So yes, she's going to answer him in a positive note "I'm also doing well professor." she chuckled softly as she finished putting most of the extra stuff in her baby bag. "This assignment started a bit harder but everything has a learning curve". she added.

Finneas smiled awkwardly, shifting a bit in his stance, but still taking some notes. "Er... Yes, not a joke," that was exactly the point. He was glad that much was clear at least? If nothing else. Parenting was, indeed, a full time job! Not that he'd know. Not yet, anyway.
AnYwAy. "I believe that your concern over the matter is telling in itself," he smiled. "Speaking of the job, have you faced any bumps along the way?”
Bumps along the way? There were little bumps every day. That was the nature of being a parent, right? Any bumps worth mentioning though? “Well.......besides Sierra not liking to sleep at night?”, and Naya getting very little sleep herself? “I mean I didn’t expect this to be easy. Babies are hard work. Sierra is a happy baby, so she didn’t give me too much trouble. But just being responsible for another person 24 hours a day is challenging.” Naya couldn’t imagine how it would be to have a cranky, fussy baby. If she learned nothing else, she learned that it would be a long while before she was ready to be a mother.
“I tell you what professor. I’ve gotten some skills from this experience. I can feed Sierra a bottle and eat myself at the same time. I can do my homework while I rock her to sleep. I’ve really learned how to multi task.” So she had that going for her. “I think I’m going to be a little sad to give her back.” It would be lonely without her play baby.

Walking into the office she sat down happily with Caspian wrapped up in his wrap sleeping peacefully. She was a bit cheery today, but even with Professor Rainwater watching Caspian while she doing some studying it waa still hard for her to leave him.
Packing her diaper bag of the necessaries that she was running low of, she checked off everything on her list that she needed, but her and Oceanus been good on making sure they don't run low or out of anything. From watching the clouds with him and Oceanus, to walking around the castle having adventures she knew Caspian very well and knows what he likes and doesn't like. What was weird for a doll he sure was a mixture of her and Oceanus, which she found funny and quite amusing. As Caspian started crying she frowned. "Oh.... dear mummy is sorry, I was just chuckling at how much you're like me and your daddy." she said softly. Singing softly to him she rocked him in her arms.

Was that also what this assignment was about? Them learning not only how to care for a baby but to learn more about themselves? That did make a lot of sense now that she thought about it. "I did, Professor. I realized that no matter what gets thrown my way, whether I'm prepared for it or not... I can make it through." Okay, maybe she was speaking about a little more than just taking care of a 'baby' with that answer but it was the truth. "Taking care of Sera while it wasn't always easy I learned how rewarding it be when she was calm or when I was the one who got her to stop crying. That it was okay to ask for help when I needed it." There was so much to learn about yourself when you had someone else depending on you.
And just like that, she was told she could go. Unless she had questions. Which she did. Hopefully he wouldn't try to evade her questions this time. "Actually, Professor I do have a question or two..." Rylee brushed a lock of ginger off her face as she smiled at him. "I'm sure you won't tell me now since there's still a few more weeks left to this assignment but... what charms are you using on the 'babies'? Clearly these aren't the average muggle type ones that are used." There was obviously some extensive charm work done to make these 'babies' function they way they do. She did have her own dolls that she had specially made for herself or received as gifts that appeared to look extremely life like that she was testing charms on BUT they didn't cry, drink, or wet nappies.
Finneas smiled proudly because that is exactly what he wanted to hear that this project was doing. Otherwise, he remained quiet and nodded respectfully as she spoke. "Ah yes," he smiled knowingly. "Perhaps we can discuss this in my office later if you are so interested." Mostly because other students would be popping in and out today for their check ins and there wasn't so much time.

Glancing down to see that Christopher was still sleeping he asked "How much are babies supposed to sleep professor? Because it seems our little guy sleeps quite a lot."Maybe that was normal? He didn't know.

Jillian was looking at Professor Schmoe inspecting the baby. She bit her lower lip and eyes the baby as well. She has took care of the baby quite well than she thought. She scratched the nape of her neck as her eyes gazed back to the professor when he asked her a question.
"Well... it cried, a lot" she replied. She's not alone on this one since she's also heard the same complain from other students but like she said it was a learning curve "after a week or so i managed to make it work for the both of us." chuckling softly. The crying was eventually manageable and sometimes it barely happens which was something she's very proud of.

How was the partnership? Claudine took some time to reflect on this question, after wondering if Cole intended on drowning Schmoe with the stream of questioning. “I’m glad I had Cole as a partner,’’ she spoke up, eyes on Schmoe but avoiding Cole. “He showed me the correct ways of caring for Christopher and was patient with me.’’ So, that was a truthful summary of the way things went down. “Aside from that, we worked out a schedule of who has to take Christopher when. Like when Cole had to study for OWLs, I’d take over. But otherwise, we took care of him together.’’ That was just one way in which they made things work. Cole could elaborate further.

As Schmoe spoke, Isla started to really feel bad about this whole thing. It wasn't that he made her feel bad. It was more like...she knew she hadn't given this whole assignment a fair chance. She kind of figured she'd looked on it so poorly for so long that she had made herself more miserable with it than she should have. She looked over at Blake, wondering what he was thinking about it.
"You're right, Professor, and thank you for the encouragement. I'm going to spend the last bit of time I have with Ellie trying to look at things with a different perspective," she said. On the bright side, they'd kept the baby alive, and there had been those few winning moments that had made her proud. Plus, she'd gotten to know Blake better, and he had been a great partner. "Why don't we take Ellie on a little family outing?" she asked her partner. She began gathering up all the baby supplies they'd come in with. Going to and from places was a lot more involved with a baby in tow. That much she'd learned for sure.

Well, parenting had certainly been an adventure so far! The good thing was that Cecelia was the cheerful sort, so even the occasional night with no sleep was being handled as well as could be expected. It was ALSO nice knowing that she had a babysitter right down in the greenhouses if it all got to be too much, a service she hadn't taken advantage of JUST yet, but was thankful for all the same. Now she was just hoping for some positive feedback from Professor Schmoe, whose feedback was a little strange sometimes, but would hopefully clue her in on anything else she'd need to do to get herself AND baby Keeper through this assignment in one piece.
Spotting all the supplies, the second year smiled, adjusted Keeper in his makeshift carrier, and headed over to replenish her baby bag.
Finneas had a few important tasks to get to before he went to meet Ms. Starson. And by few important tasks, I mean his rubik's cube. AnYwAy. Once he had a whole side solved, he set the cube down and bumbled his way over to her desk. "Good day, Ms. Starson. How are you?"
Wrapping warmly back in his wrap so she had free hands to talk to Professor Schmoe she smiled seeing him. "Doing very well indeed, how are you this lovely day?" Looking down at Caspian to make sure he was still asleep she smiled to herself. This lesson sure taught her alot of things, how to be more pateint and caring towards others, not that she wasn't before but she lacked on the patience part severely. Although she was glad for this lesson, despite her and Oceanus bickering at times about who was going to change him, it really brought them together closer as a couple and how it'll be when they really did have kids someday. [I]"I hope you don't mind, I brought his little ocean wave music box for when he gets fussy, it helps him sleep."[/b] she said softly turning it on as it softly played waves crashing.
Adjusting herself slightly and carefully not to wake Caspian she looked in the bag for his teddy bear before heading it to him. "Sorry Professor, I'm ready now my apologize. " Hey... as a 'mother' she had to make sure her 'baby' was ok while he slept, it was her duty to make sure he was comfortable and safe.

It was hard keeping up the pretence when he called the 'baby' Banana and Cora almost lost it right then, right there.
She rocked the toilet papered bear in her arms and quickly attempted to rearrange her face into the sweetest most innocent face she could muster. Cora Dredworth, sweet and innocent? To any other professor, it probably wouldn't be convincing but she wasn't worried because it was Schmoe they were dealing with here.
As far as Cora was concerned, he had fallen for it.
"We couldn't have asked for a better kid, sir. Banana's doing great. Right, Shiv?" She nudged her partner. Right, Shiv????

Banana.
Banana.
Shivvy had 100000% forgot about naming the baby Banana at this point (a lot had happened okay???) so she snorted but somehow managed to mask it with a cough. Smooth, Siobhán, very smooth. She was totally fine. And yes, Banana was a completely normal name. She was going to name her real life child Banana some day, mhm, totally.
"Banana is the best." Was it a he? Was it a she? Who knew? "Banana looooooves playing dress up too. Don't you?" She grinned at Schmoe then pretended to tickle the "baby"'s tummy through the toilet paper. Not too hard though. She was a bit worried it would just combust into ashes at some point.

The professor should be made godfather for their baby. Like that meant if Bernie and she died, then the professor could be his daddy. Finneas, father of Finneas. So cute!
She smiled hugely at the professor and Other Momma at that question, because they had a running list of what was hard. Everything. Everything was SO HARD. "The nappies are bad," she agreed. "And he cries a lot. Like I can't wait for him to learn WORDS because it's so hard to figure out why he's upset, so we have to go through this list each time and it never seems to be the right things."
Apparently Professor Schmoe hadn't eaten this morning's pancakes which was sad for him because he had missed out on something delicious. Anyways they we're asked how their partnership was going between them. Cole opened his mouth to answer, but Claudine beat him to it. Why was she just looking at Professor Schmoe and not sparing him even a glance? Weird. He did though chime in when he could. "I feel the same professor. We worked really well together. We could complement each other and give each other tips and help which i think most parents do in real life too." Heated argument aside. "Us not being in the same year was good because we could make the schedule work easier when we didn't have classes at the same time." Looking down at Christopher for a moment he smiled before looking up at Schmoe again. "We take care of our baby with affection and interest it's not just an assignment for us. Christopher matters." But Cole was going to be super glad when the assignment was over. He needed his sleep and alone time.
Blake sighed ... well at least the Professor thought they were on the right track anyway! Smiling at Isla ... okay .. they could do this for a few more days right?? "How back that trip to the lake finally?" He added, thinking they had made plans to do that anyway.

"Well... it cried, a lot" she replied. She's not alone on this one since she's also heard the same complain from other students but like she said it was a learning curve "after a week or so i managed to make it work for the both of us." chuckling softly. The crying was eventually manageable and sometimes it barely happens which was something she's very proud of.
Finneas nodded. Babies cried. It was a fact of life. He smiled at what she said next though, yes yes very good. The noodly man took some notes before looking back up. "That's, er, very well, Ms. Jillian. I look forward to seeing the progress you have made by the final check in." In other words? He got all that he needed and she was free to leave! Very glad. Could they tell? Because he was beaming. AnYwAy. "Anyway, anyway, anyway," he continued. "I can see you're both making greeeeat progress.
Finneas was fidget spinning, as one does, when Cecelia entered stage left. He waited for her to gather supplies, however, before making his way over sans spinner. Clipboard held to his chest, he made a few initial observations before giving her an uncomfortable sort of smile. "How are you and Keeper doing today?"

Sickly sweet smile still in place, Cora cuddled 'Banana' closer still. It was a subtle attempt at ensuring Schmoe didn't get a decent look at the bundle in her arms.

That smile, the one Professor S was wearing, it KIND of made Cecelia think that HE might need to use the loo, and she gave him a minute in case he was going to have to excuse himself to go. When he didn’t, she figured that’s just the way his face worked and smiled back at him. ”We’re good! Well, better. At first we both weren’t sleeping very much, but now we’re working on a schedule!” Her mum said having a schedule was super important, even though she ALSO said Cece wasn’t one to stick to the schedule for more than a week when she was a baby. Sammy had done a better job of that.
”You know, I think I’m so good at this ‘cause I helped out with my little brother a bunch when he was small. I’m practically a professional!”

OBVIOUSLY it was a mummy.
Despite the fact that they'd put so much effort into the costume because they'd been trying to (AND SUCCEEDING CLEARLY) conceal what was actually underneath under all that toilet paper, Shivvy was a bit taken aback that Professor Schmoe hadn't immediately recognized the costume.
Like. Where was his imagination?
She was too much in her head (had Schmoe never dressed up for anything? Halloween??) to have paid any attention to the conversation between Cora and the professor so she was very much caught off-guard when her friend nudged her. "Uh- a- uh-" ???? "-teddy bear. ....... Right. Finneas kept up the smiling though it may have looked a little pained. And if it did? That's because it was.
Banana was not as rigid as he remembered it to be. A bit fuzzier, that was fuzz right? The stuff sticking up from the corner of its elbow? Was that even an elbow? HM. "Yes, funny," he was looking down at the clipboard now making some scribbles.

His face did very much work this way, unfortunately. But if it was awkward, he didn't notice? "I'm err glad to hear that." And even though it didn't sound like he was certain... He was! This was fantastic news. He loved ALL the strategies. "Has the schedule been working?" Or was it simply in trial stages? Both were valid.

It was a good sign when Professor Schmoe didn't have any other comments about the baby in particular. That's quite a relief on Jillian's part. She's happy to have made it this far on the project and it was quite bittersweet that it will be ending soon. She gave her professor another smile and took the baby, "I, uhh plan to give you my full report on that one" the final check in that is. A soft chuckle with a slight snort left her lips when the man suddenly gave her a salute. She liked Professor Schmoe- he was quirky but she likes that.
She gave him a salute as well before taking the bag and leaving the classroom. "See you soon"
