Honestly? Gabi was looking forward to the end of term. After everything that had happened - she still was having nightmares about Mathys bleeding on the floor of his cabin - she was more than ready to have a nice relaxing summer to recenter herself. But first things first - she had to finish this school term. She'd done a ton of prep for her classes and wasn't going to let some ridiculous rogue paintings ruin her lessons! This one in particular was one she had been looking forward to for a while.
Gabi was situated on her desk, sitting on the edge of it very casually. Considering how this term had gone, she'd decided to let her hair down a bit, so to speak. They all deserved to take it a little easy after everything that had happened. She was even wearing flats instead of her usual heels!
The other thing the students would notice as they walked in? All the desks had been moved so they were clumped in to groups. Five groups, to be exact. At the center of each desk cluster was an item that would be pertaining to today's lesson.

"Welcome! Please pick a table to sit at and examine the object in front of you," she told them all as they began to trickle in. "Please do NOT touch the items at the moment. There are no assigned seats, but try and spread yourselves out, please," she explained. They would be able to examine the items in a bit closer in a moment.
Come in, select a spot to sit, and get ready. The lesson will be underway soon!
OOC: Hey everybody! Welcome to your second and final HoM class for the term! Please select an item to sit by and make it very clear in your RP post which item your character has selected. As Gabi said, please try to spread out a bit so that each item has at least 1 person! Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Classroom Rules and Expectations as well as the SS RPG rules before posting. Thanks! Class will commence in roughly 30ish hours! Class has started! Please do NOT post your character entering late or face the IC consequences. Things are up in the air around here, as I'm sure they are for many people, so it all depends on how my work schedule turns out tomorrow.

Naya arrived for History of Magic class and was surprised to see that she was the first student there. “Hello Professor”, she said as she entered the classroom. And oh, this was interesting. They were sitting in groups today apparently. Naya noticed the different items on each set of desks. Since she was early and there were no assigned seats, she got to choose which item she wanted to sit near.
Not having a clue as to what they would be doing, she wasn’t sure what to choose. After a few moments, Naya sat down at a desk near the frog. She proceeded to get her things out of her bag and tried not to let her curiousity get the best of her. She would find out the plan soon enough.

Isla had officially reached the point of the school year where she was already in 'summer mode' and pretty much had to drag herself to classes. Not really, but that's what it felt like as she walked down the corridor and into the History of Magic classroom. "Hello, Professor," she said, noting the lady on the edge of her desk.
She ventured further into the classroom and found herself a random seat at a random table. Looking toward the center of it, she saw a Mimbulus Mimbletonia. Nice little plant. It kind of made her feel like she was in Herbology class instead of History of Magic, but in a way, History of Magic sort of related to all the subjects. Everything had a little bit of history to it.
Mmkay. Since she couldn't touch the plant, there was nothing else to do but to just sit and wait for whatever was coming.

Bernie came into class and paused by the door right away, looking around at the clusters of desks and the objects on them. Then she made a beeline toward the Sorting Hat, the one object she was pretty sure she could correctly identify, and sat down.
"Hi professor," Bernie waved at her, one eye still on the hat. "Is this the REAL Sorting Hat?" The one from the Headmaster's office?!
And if it was, could it talk to her??

Recard looked… different. It was the first thing that Claudine noticed but of course, she said nothing out loud; she was usually a girl of little words. She edged closer into the room, her keen gaze catching the desks grouped together. This caused an inward groan for this meant that she would be sitting in close proximity to others. Sigh. She hated when Professors saw this necessary for their lessons. “Hi, Professor.’’ Claudine gave her brief greeting then moved towards the tables, ignoring everyone else.
Claudine didn’t hesitate to choose a seat at the table with the Remembrall. She hoped it wouldn’t get too crowded here. In any case, she whipped out her sketch pad to make an intricate drawing of the item. In her own way, she was examining it as Recard instructed.
Jina too was looking forward to the end of term. Hogwarts was fun and she learned a lot over the past year, but the whole thing about school founders walking around the castle was still quite scary. She needed to leave the wizarding world for a few months to relax the muggle way, safe from danger.
"Hello, Professor Recard." She greeted as she walked into the classroom. Taking a look around, she noticed that the desks were arranged in groups. Were they doing group work today? Following the professor's instructions to spread out, she picked the group with the Hufflepuff scarf on it and sat down. It just seemed like a normal scarf ... she wondered what they were going to do with it in this lesson.
Tom walked into the classroom. "Hello, Professor, How are you today?." He then looked at the desks, there were some amazing items out on the table but he had to go and sit with the sorting hat it would be so amazing to find out why it was out here.

Beth made her way into the classroom quite sluggishly. She hadn't slept well the night before and the end of term jitters were really starting to set in, but alas she had managed to drag herself out of bed and make it on time (sort of) to all of her classes earlier that morning. She paused by the door and noticed the room had been set up for groups. Her eyes scanned over the different items splayed across the tables, and she briefly raised her eyebrows in consideration. Honestly, she was so indecisive.
"Good afternoon, professor" she smiled toward Recard and walked over to the table with the plushie frog and a fellow Gryffindor she'd seen around the common room a few times. Not only did it have the least amount of people around it, but it was such a random item. She couldn't help but be intrigued.

History of Magic was one of the classes Heath looked forward to most. There was no scary professor to catch him off guard and not much wandwork to trip him up. As such, Heath was in a pretty good mood as he walked into the classroom. The first thing he noticed was the professor sitting at the edge of her desk. "Hello, Professor," he greeted, smiling slightly.
The second thing Heath noticed: the odd assortment of items on the desks. A plant, a frog, a rememberall, the sorting hat… he already had an idea how these things might relate to history of magic, or at least he thought he did until he saw the Hufflepuff scarf. Oh well, he supposed he'd find out the items' purpose soon enough!
For now, the bigger question was which group to sit at? Heath's dark eyes darted from one group to the next. Definitely not the frog! It reminded him way too much of the frog dissections in potions class earlier this term! Maybe the plant? No, that wasn't exactly a pleasant reminder either. In the end, he decided to sit at the group with the scarf because that was the object that piqued his curiosity most. Not so much because the object itself was interesting - it looked just like any other Hufflepuff scarf - but because it was the one that didn't make sense with his earlier theory about the lesson subject. He wondered how it did fit into things!

Can OWLs be officially cancelled? Because honestly Carsyn would not complain AT ALL if the examinations were cancelled - she'd pretty much reached breaking point in terms of caffeination and hours in the library. Venturing into the History of Magic Classroom, the fifth year Gryffindor was surprised to find the desks arranged into five clusters with various artifacts atop each one.
A plant, a clear ball, a frog, the sorting hat, and ... a hufflepuff scarf? Interesting. Warily she did recall the significance of the first three items in regards to History of Magic and yet, was the sorting hat and hufflepuff scarf to show that the hat made errors? She was tempted to sit with the Hufflepuff Scarf table, because Jina was there and she did quite like the older girl, when the Professor made call to spread themselves out. Plant or clear ball, as they each only had one student at present.
Plant it is.
"Hello Professor Recard," she greeted, taking a seat opposite the first year Slytherin already seated there. She did wonder if the girl knew about the plant. Mimbulus Mimbletonia. Was that something she knew about as a first year? Carsyn couldn't remember.

Missa was not late! She was sure she would be, considering how she had lost track of time being submerged in a ... questionable novel she had found in the library.
What a thing to be forgotten by someone. Honestly.
Stuffing the novel in her bag, the prefect walked into class - offering the professor an embarrassed smile - before making her way to where Bernie sat.
"Hullo" she greeted the girl, and another boy sat.

The weather was really nice today so she had no complains. She did drink a few sips of coffee before getting to class just to keep her awake since she had trouble sleeping the night before. With her book on her arm and her bag on the other she made her way to History of Magic. She smiled at the sight of the professor and greeted her "hello, Professor" then her eyes wandered around the room. The seats were grouped and there were items on each. Cooooool.
She spotted Jina and walked to her. Giving her a smile and taking the seat just beside her. She didn't really take a good look at all the items on the table, she just wanted to sit right next to a familiat face. "hey, jina" she whispered before placing her book inside her bag and then putting it on the ground next to her. She glanced over at the item in front of her and saw a hufflepuff scarf. Ooooh, are they going to learn about hufflepuffs in this table?

Phoebe bopped into the History of Magic classroom and immediately took in the fact that she had too many options. TOO MANY OPTIONS. What if she picked the wrong thingy and then the class was boring? Or more boring than usual?
"Bonjour, Professor," Phoebe remembered that the professor said her husband was French and she was still working off saying rotten things about Frenchies early in the term. "I hope you're having a good day today."
Decisions, decisions. Phoebe finally dropped down to sit beside Bernie at Group 4 and leaned against her for just a moment. "Hullo, Other Momma. Can I work with you?"
Avalon suppressed a yawn as she made her way into the History of Magic classroom. The end of the term brought with it a plethora of final assignments and exams that had been keeping the young Ravenclaw up at night far later than she preferred. "Hi, Professor," she said with a polite smile before scanning the groups around the room. After a brief moment of deliberation, Avalon decided to go with the Remembrall. She had no idea what they would be doing today, but she thought the little glass ball would make an interesting topic. She nodded to Claudine as she sat down next to the Slytherin.

Nina made her way into the classroom with some reluctance. While she was not Professor Recard's biggest fan, she did appreciate that the Healer had stood up for her in front of Salazar Slytherin. That much she did appreciate. And so, Nina gave her professor the faintest smile before quickly heading to find a table to sit at. Practically every table was an issue.
Nina did not particularly want to sit with he younger students. Nor did she care to sit with the loud ones. Essentially, every table except Table 2 was out of the question. And so the choice was rather easy, though it still took her quite a bit to decide. Eventually, however, she made her way over to the second table, joining Naya and Bethania. She acknowledged them both with a brief look before sitting down.
Why were they looking at a plush frog?

Heading into History of Magic, Chloe smiled and looked around. It was an interesting set up for the day, but her eyes were on the very first table and her smile was wide, "Hello Professor, what a beautiful Mimbulus Mimbletonia."
Of course, that was exactly where she was going to sit and find out what they were doing today. As she sat down her eyes never left the plant and it took everything in her to not touch it to see if it would squirt or make noises. "Are these lovely. They make the most interesting sounds too."
It might not have been a great greeting to her tablemates, but her interest in the mimbletonia had her attention fully at the moment, sorry girls.

As more and more people starting pouring into the room, Isla started to feel like a complete loner over at table one. Hopefully it was the plant and not her. Regardless, a minute later, and older student joined her, and a very-grateful Isla smiled up at her. "Hey, Carsyn," she greeted, because at this point in the school year, she pretty much knew everybody's name.
Another passing minute saw a second older student joined them. GOOD. Maybe they knew all the answers to everything they'd have to do! "Hey, Chloe," she said, greeting the other girl. She looked at the plant, which she knew the name of but not much else. The most interesting sounds, huh? Isla had pretty much sat here because she'd thought the plant looked cool. Maybe she should start thinking a little more outside the box about things. Also, she wanted to hear the sounds!

She’d likely never admit it, but Carys was rather looking forward to the end of term. While it had been interesting to meet her House founder, the chaos that had followed the founders’ appearances in the castle was tiring. Especially given exams, prefect duties, and the now-finished Muggle Studies project, it had sort of exhausted her. Summer was welcome, even knowing it would mean buckling down on her Quidditch training for the U-17 matches. Either way, she was using every bit of her abilities to try and hide her exhaustion, and the sight of Professor Recard once she’d arrived in the History of Magic classroom for the next lesson made it that much easier. Even the professor looked ready for some relaxation.
The desk groupings caught her attention, as well. “Hello Professor Recard,” she said, giving the woman a smile as she contemplated where to sit. The Mimbulus Mimbletonia was tempting. She did consider Herbology one of her strengths, after all, and her sister was already seated there. But they’d been asked to spread out, and that was one of the groupings that seemed to have gathered more students than others, so she changed direction and headed for the grouping with the Remembrall, Claudine and Avalon, giving the two younger girls a smile as she sat down.
At least the small glass ball could provide artistic ideas, with all the scrollwork and everything.

It was a good thing the young Slytherin paid attention to Gabi's warnings, as that was a very real mimbulus mimbletonia and would definitely squirt her with VERY disgusting and real slime if she touched it. "Hello Miss Bellchant," she nodded at her as she sat down.

Was that...a SMILE from Nina Castillo? Merlin. Maybe she was having more of a positive impact on the girl than she had thought! She gave her a small nod in greeting as she watched her take a seat near the toad. Huh. Not what she would have imagined her picking...

Gabi chuckled a little. "Beautiful" wasn't exactly the word she would have chosen for it, but she knew the McCarthy's had a certain appreciation for plants. "Thank you, Miss McCarthy. It's not actually mine - just borrowed for the lesson," she explained with a small smile.

Just before the start of the lesson, the other Prefect Rose walked in and received a smile from Gabi. "Hello Prefect Rose," she greeted her just as she had greeted her twin a few moments ago.
Annnnnd....it was officially time to begin the lesson. Gabi waved her wand, and the door was sealed shut - the signal that class had officially begun. She hopped off the desk, looking much shorter than normal since she wasn't wearing her usual heels. She doubted anyone would really notice, though.
"Good afternoon, everyone! I hope you're all eager to get started," she began, smiling at everyone as she began her lesson and started her usual practice of pacing in front of the room as she spoke. "We're going to get things started right away with a mini activity - and it involves the items that you all have sitting on your desks," she explained. That bit was probably already obvious though, yes?
"Basically, all the items on your tables...a mimbulus mimbletonia plant, a stuffed toad, a Hufflepuff scarf, a remembrall, and the sorting hat..." she paused and gestured to each item as she rattled them off, "....have something to do with the main topic of the lesson. Based on your prior knowledge of history, your assignment for this portion of the class is simple. Guess what the topic of the lesson is based off the item at your table! Even if you're not 100% sure, take a guess," she encouraged them all with a kind smile.
"Once you think you have an idea, raise your hand and share it with the class. You do not HAVE to work with the members of your group, however you're more than welcome to reach out to them for help if you're struggling," she added.
"So...anyone care to venture a guess?" she asked with a small smirk to the class. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
OOC: And away...we...go! The mini activity is underway and class has officially STARTED! Please do NOT post your character arriving after this time, lest they receive Gabi's wraith and the IC consequences of strolling in late. Simply pretend they've been here this whole time and pick an item that they've been sitting by.
The mini activity is simple - guess the topic of the lesson! This is actually PART ONE of TWO parts of the mini activity, and you'll have roughly 22 hours to come up with your guess before we move on. Put your thinking caps on - think of all the items as a whole if you're having trouble with the one your character picked!
As always nudge me in the title of your post if you need me!

"Oh hi, Phoebe! Of course you can!" Bernie beamed at her roommate, pleased that she wouldn't be sitting just with a prefect and Tom. There was nothing wrong with either of them, but Tom had helped her destroy the duelling arena at the start of the term, which meant he might drag her into trouble again, and Missa was friends with a certain Slytherin who had discovered her there in the duelling arena, and so, long story short, Bernie did not want to get expelled today, so it was good to have at least one generally rule-abiding friend at this table.
Now then, class was starting, and the second year began craning her head to look around the room at all the objects here and there. She had an idea of what they might represent, or rather who they might represent, and so she raised her hand and blurted out her guess as usual, before she really thought it all through.
"Neville Longbottom?" Was that who they'd be studying today? If so, she was utterly pleased, because he was a great Gryffindor and all.

Isla had just greeted her new group mates, when she heard the all-too-familiar sound of the door sealing shut. The professors at Hogwarts were serious when it came to getting to class on time! Although, come to think of it, so were the teachers at muggle primary school, too.
As the professor listed all the items on the various tables, Isla tried to follow along with her eyes. As a pureblood, Isla knew most of the basics when it came to magical history. Even still, as a former muggle primary school student and as an ickle firstie, she still didn't know quite as much as the others.
She looked again at all the items as she tried to piece together what the lesson might be about. That was when Bernie spoke up, and the lightbulb in Isla's head came on. Former Professor Neville Longbottom! That was the guy that helped Harry Potter in that Wizarding War! "I agree with Bernie," she said, raising her hand. "I think we're studying Neville Longbottom."
Why would that be the case? Neville wasn't in hufflepuff. He was in Gryffindor...wasn't he?
"Then what's with the hufflepuff scarf?" Austin raised his hand. He didn't know.
While looking at the scarf, she noticed Heath join the group and smiled at him in a friendly way. Her friend Jillian also received a wave when she sat down next to her. "Hi, Jillian." Excited for class?
The first mini activity was to guess the main topic of the lesson. As the items on the tables were so different, she had difficulty piecing them together to figure out what they would be learning in this lesson. It did not help that she was still relatively new to studying British history. When the younger students gave their answer, she finally understood what the items were there for. It made sense! Neville Longbottom, a forgetful herbologist with a pet toad who drew the Gryffindor sword from the sorting hat. The Hufflepuff scarf though ... "Is it because he initially wanted to be sorted into Hufflepuff?" She said in response to the boy's question, raising her hand.

Beth gave a slight nod of acknowledgement to her fellow group members and turned her attention to the professor as the lesson began. The figurative cogs in her brain remained still even after Recard had relayed her instructions to them, she didn't have any clue what the items around the room might represent. Five years on and history of magic still wasn't her best subject, but she didn't dwell on this as it made her think of her impending O.W.L.s and just...no, she didn't want to think about that.
Nevertheless, she listened in as Bernie and some of the other younger students brought up Neville Longbottom. It made sense that it would be him, for the most part at least. The plant, the remembrall, the toad...she was just confused about the Hufflepuff scarf and the sorting hat. He had been a Gryffindor, hadn't he? Who else was alive eons ago and was somehow connected to plants and to Hufflepuff?
She raised her hand, "Could it be Pomona Sprout?" It was a long shot, she knew, and Pomona Sprout wasn't that much of a history influencer, but she rather enjoyed being the nonconformist sometimes.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Claudine was quite pleased that by the time Recard was ready to get started that there weren’t many others at table three. She nodded to Avalon and Carys; they were students she didn’t mind working along with. Oh? They were kicking the lesson off with the mini activity? Interesting. Claudine took the time to gaze at the objects once more as the hands up went up around her.
Neville Longbottom.
Right. That definitely could be the topic. The girl’s hand went up. “Or the fact that Neville married a Hufflepuff,’’ she spoke up, elaborating somewhat on Jina’s answer to Austin. As for the main topic, she chose not to give a response because… why repeat what was already said?
