_________________

Welcome to the duel!

With this being the first test run of reintroducing the dueling club, there is no tournament so to speak. There will also be no points to keep track of. That will begin next term. Right now we're just easing back into things. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.

_______________

Headmaster Trent will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.

Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.

Good luck!

________________

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 23rd of February by 11:59pm EST. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me about them or posting them in the Dueling Club Rules thread. If you don't think you can post during that time or you don't think you can start/finish your duel, please let me know as soon as possible and we'll try and work something out.

Remember to keep a track of your points both in the title of your post (before any spells have been cast) and at the end of the post (after your charrie has cast a spell). Please refer to this post if you're confused as to how this works or, simply, come to me. Include as much information as you can about the spell in the spoiler section at the bottom of your post, including the directionality of the spell.

Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.

First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.

Good luck!

Sooooo even though Eiji Rasting hadn't been talking to her before but instead it was at Nina, turns out the Slytherin got to duel her anyway. Lucky him. Or lucky her. Either way, there were probably a million people that the fifth year would rather being in the arena with at this moment even though he didn't strike Carsyn as much of a dueler.

"We meet again."

And she'd go easy, as in start off with a mere bow, her wand out and at the ready. Eye contact formalities too, because she wasn't quite sure how much she trusted him. Then again, even if she did trust him, this was a duel regardless. Hence a quick "Armanto" to begin as well.

....we meet again. Right.

He supposed there were worse people he could be facing off against in terms of levels of irritation, but it did little to lessen the feeling in the moment. Carsyn was a lot of the traits that he did not fancy when thinking of Gryffindor and he often found himself concerned as to whether or not his beautiful mum had been this annoying during her school days. Surely not, even if they both wore perfect badges for the same house.

"Yeah...just like any other day," he replied dryly as he went through the initial motions of dueling etiquette, though his own beginning stance was not among the variety taught in European schools but one based in ancient martial arts practices. The teachings of his uncle, Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and headmaster over at Himitsumahou. His legs in fudô dachi, the stance of immovability and unobstructed awareness of everything, he clutched his wand firmly to his side with his wand hand while the other arm stretched out towards his opponent with the palm facing her.

....and then nothing. No spell came his direction at all. Rather it seemed she had cast a shielding charm upon herself. Disappointing and curious, he supposed.

Taking preemptive measures himself and recalling his uncle's preaching on the emphasis of mobility and fluidity of one's movements - a coursing river, if you will - Eiji administered a Feather-light Charm to himself to making himself even lighter on his toes than he already was thanks to kendo and performance calligraphy and considered the addition of a Supersensory Charm but opted against it.

Ball was in her court and in case she was unobservant ought to know that he was not, typically, the one to attack first. Unless you were named Calloway and were in some corridor with his little sister. Then all bets were off.

Well wasn't this Slytherin simply a delight. Then again, she supposed there were worse people she could be dueling against and practicing a duel against someone with such a sour disposition was probably a good thing. Maybe? Actually Carsyn had literally no idea, but she was still going to make the best of it despite his dry personality. Was he always so dry? Or did he show it off just for her?

Fighting the urge to roll her eyes at him, because they were in a duel, whether he liked it or not, she watched and waited. Oh, nothing, which meant the first move was hers to make? How gentleman-like of him. Or was it just him being more of a passive person? Carsyn wished at that moment she was of the more observant sort because perhaps then she'd be able to predict his encounters better, but alas, she was not. She was observant enough to know that he was not going to attack her first, but that was about where the line drew.

Which meant that if they wanted to progress with the duel - given the headmaster watching they probably did - she would have to cast first.

A fairly strong Jelly-Fingers Curse was what she chose to send his way, hoping to make his grip unstable with his wand. Maybe.

Holding this stance was easier with a wand than it was a kendo shinai, that much he was certain of. And he had trained himself in endurance and stamina to hold sometimes awkward and uncomfortable positions for quite some time now thanks to his uncle. And so he waited, banking on the innate Gryffindor restlessness that he often associated with the house and smirking a little when he saw her finally move her wand.

His eyes honed in on the spell, for the briefest of moments things seeming to move in slow motion as he registered the slight erratic crackling it had as the magic hit the air - a crackle associated with curses. It did not matter which one it was she was casting, because he had thrown up his own Protego to deflect it. Was her shield spell still in effect as well? Perhaps, so with another flourish of his wand he cast Finite in her direction and followed that up with a fluid spin pivot - almost as though he were performing a dance - before casting a Babbling Curse towards her.

Had this Gryffindor been absent-minded enough to forget about the shields they each initially placed? Absolutely! So hearing the crackling of the curses when they collided in air was only a reminder enough to make her skin crawl and distract her enough to not realize he had in fact been fluid enough to end her shield charm and send something her way. Her quidditch reflexes were one thing, but alas she was not on a broom and even though she ran almost every day, she was distracted just enough to be hit with ... HUH? What had she been hit with?

About to send a finite his way, it was at that moment when she tried to speak that gibberish came out. She had attempted non-verbal incantations just for fun a few months ago after reading about them in her owl studies, but no avail and yet desperate times seemed to call upon this and the slytherin was waiting for a move from her she knew. Come on, come on she thought desperately, concentrating on finite incantation and moving her wand with a flourish at herself and a fluid movement at him. Hopefully it would be enough which she would find out momentarily with another pivot and fluid movement to send the Knockback jinx his way. Banking on too many movements to hopefully throw off his guard.
