| | Charms Lesson 2 It was a fine, sunny afternoon and the classroom windows were open to the let the fresh air in. It had finally warmed up a bit, which Piers was glad for because the castle was starting to feel stuffy and he had been longing to let some fresh air inside. Hopefully it would inspire the students as much as it did him.
Piers stood at the front of the class, leaning against his desk, arms crossed over his chest, waiting for the students to arrive.
The classroom was set up much like a normal classroom. On each desk sat two cups of water and nothing else. The desks were arranged in columns, like normal. The only thing different and strange and possibly unnerving were the buckets. Above each individual desk hovered a bucket about six feet above it. Were they full of water? You would just have to wait to find out. OOC: Welcome to the next Charms lesson! Class will officially start in about 24 hours from this initial post. Class Progression: |

So, they were working on the Impervius Charm today. Naya was all for it. Any spell that could help keep everything dry was a good thing. She took a moment to add the spell information to her notes. Once it was time to practice the spell, Naya put her glove on and took a moment to get focused. Feeling ready to begin, the Gryffindor started by repeating the incantation. ”Impervius, Impervius, Impervius”. After she had practiced it several times, she was ready to try the spell for real. Since the wand movement was only a tap, practicing that wouldn’t be necessary.
With a deep breath, Naya tapped her glove and said, “Impervius”. She took one of the cups from her desk and poured a little water onto her glove. After a few seconds, she felt one of the fingers of her glove become a little damp. It wasn’t soaking wet, but it wasn’t dry either. She hadn’t failed completely, but clearly something wasn’t right. Naya knew that she would have to keep trying until she got it right. Gathering her thoughts, she prepared to try agin.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Claudine wasn’t sure what she should be doing now. Sit there feeling sorry for herself while continuing to hide from Fuller-Thompson? Keep going at the practice? She opted for the latter after dully considering. Practice was a good thing, and if Fuller-Thompson caught her doing nothing at all, he might wind up being even madder at her. “Impervious.’’ You’d have to be close to her to hear the incantation. But regardless of how soft she had said it, the spell worked for when the steps with the glove and the cup were used, the exact results were found. Claudine: 2; Failure: 0 |

Hogwarts RPG Name: TBD Gryffindor Hogwarts RPG Name: Zara H. Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB Oh! OH! This was the spell he had cast on Bernie back back waaaaaaay back when she'd been forced to scrub boats for detention! The second year nearly beamed at the professor in recognition, but remembered the forest and the heartbreaking yelps of Fuller's pups as they'd been dragged away by acromantulas, and...stopped smiling.
She sighed to herself and slid on her glove, concentrating only on the spell, because she'd really need to know this one shortly. "Im-PUR-vee-us," she cast clearly whilst tapping her glove, much louder than when she'd answered the class discussion question. Bernie tried pouring a bit of water onto her glove and watched in amazement as it simply beaded and then rolled off.
Like magic. A magic, waterproof glove.

After taking a few more deep breaths, Naya was ready to try again. She was determined to get this right.......or else. Spreading her gloved hand out, she tapped her glove with her wand and said, “Impervius”. Naya picked up her cup of water and poured a little onto her glove. Nothing. She didn’t feel any wetness. This was good. Just to be sure, she poured a little more water onto a different part of the glove. Still dry.
Naya was relieved and happy at the same time. She had successfully performed the spell. Now, she wondered whether she should attempt the spell on her other glove. Two waterproof gloves were better than one. At least that would give her something to think about besides the bucket over her head.

Isla watched the last of the little droplets drip drop off her glove. Time to try the charm again! She pointed her wand toward the glove once again. "Impervious!" she said. She gave her wand a good tap toward the glove. Hopefully everything would work perfectly this time! It would at least give her a piece of mind about that bucket.
She picked up the cup a second time and tilted it toward her glove. She didn't stop at a few droplets. She'd learned last time that a few droplets was pretty much useless with this experiment. She poured about the same as she did last time, which was about enough to cover the part of the glove that covered her palm.
She waited...and waited some more. It was past the point she'd made it to last time, where she'd felt just a little water trickle through the glove. After another minute, she decided it had worked! Awesome!

| Unforgivably Cursed | adultescent Well... this seventh year already knew how to cast the Water Repelling Charm, so Gunnar hoped that they'd be doing something more in class. Otherwise, he felt his time would have been better spent with his NEWT studies than with a class review. But he also did not care to have water dumped on him from the bucket, which he eyed precariously. He was sure there was water in there.
So he set about waterproofing his immediate area. He cast Impervius first on both gloves, then his desk, and his clothes, and his books. And he was confident enough in his casting that he didn't feel the need to test it.

| final activity Sardines ♥ BHB ♥ Dallie ♥ Grumpy ♥ MY SUN AND STARS ♥ i love julia As the students began their work, Piers took the opportunity to wander around the room, weaving in between rows of desks and watching each of them work. He knew it was an easy charm, but it was one that everyone should have the time to work on and perfect. They would certainly need it in a minute.
After ten minutes had passed, Piers made it back to the front of the room. "Alright everyone, I hope that was enough time to master the charm... because you're going to need it right now." Piers paused and looked up at the buckets. Time to get nervous again. "In ten seconds, these buckets are going to turn over and dump water all over you, unless of course you have mastered the charm. If not, you have about ten seconds to do so." Piers gave them a little evil smile and then looked at his watch. "Ten... nine..."
The countdown began. It was time to get serious. "Eight... seven... six..." Were the young ones panicking? "Five... four..." Would they help their neighbors who didn't have it? "Three... two... one!" And with the end of the countdown, all the buckets above the desks tipped over, dumping water over each one. Which students had succeeded? OOC: Thanks for playing along, everyone. Sorry this lesson has lacked a bit, I've come down with some stomach bug or something (not coronavirus) and haven't been online much. This will be the final activity! I hope it's fun for you. I'll post in about 48 hours from now to close the lesson out. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jacoby Rivers Hufflepuff Sixth Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Callista Rivers Gryffindor Second Year | Stealthy Ninja Queen | Snake For Life | waddling baker | binge royalty ♚ Charlie watched as Professor Fuller-Thompson demonstrated impervius charm. She did not like where this class was going at all. There was way too much water in this room for her hair. Practicing saying the charm she got ready to tap the glove like she had been instructed. She needed to figure this out. By no means did she want to get sopping wet at all. No thank you Sir.
Grabbing her wand she put the glove on and said the charm clearly, “Impervius” she tipped a bit of the water from the glass onto the glove hoping that it would in fact be resistant. And this time it wasn’t. Great. At this rate she was insuring that she was going to be sopping wet. And she had really good hair today. She still had other classes and didn’t need to look like an electric socket struck her.
She took a deep breath and got ready to try again. “Impervius” She tapped the glove and took a second before pouring a good portion of the water onto the glove. Now she waited to see if it would soak into the glove or if she was going to have a dry hand. It wasn’t until she let out her breath when she realized that it had actually worked. She was so amped. She couldn’t believe she had actually done it. Smiling she turned to hear what the next task was. Wait, she had ten seconds to make sure she stayed dry? What if she just ran from the classroom?

| Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Fiona gulped as she listened to Professor Fuller-Thompson reveal what the hovering buckets above the students' heads meant exactly. She quickly grabbed her wand and clearly said, "Impervius!" as she tapped her wand on herself, silently praying that the charm would work.
The ten-second countdown had elapsed and Fiona looked up and saw the water fall out of the bucket but much to her relief, she didn't feel any water on her.

| Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Was she unaware of the bucket? Of course not, although she’d slipped the notes she’d been using to study for exams away once the lesson had begun. Carys was fully aware of the bucket over her head through the discussion about how someone could stay dry in a rainstorm, through the revelation that they were learning the water-repelling charm…She was aware but generally acting as if the threat wasn’t anything to be afraid of. Especially since she was fairly certain what was in said bucket.
As they’d been released to practice the charm, she’d taken her wand out. Impervius was one charm she was already pretty familiar with from Quidditch practices in all types of weather, but practice made perfect. she’d murmured the charm a few times, tapping the glove on her non-wand hand, and subsequently tipped a bit of water from the glass onto it. The first couple tries weren’t exactly foolproof. The glove was a little damp by the third time when she charm kicked in fully and she succeeded, but she was confident enough when the lesson moved on to cast it on her schoolbag, her clothes and the top of her head in the seconds before the countdown began.
She wasn’t about to risk her study materials just for a shower, and once she felt prepared she glanced at those sitting around her to see if anyone needed assistance. Besides, she wasn’t about to risk splashback from her own bucket hitting innocent bystanders.

OMG OMG OMG
Isla experienced a second or two of confusion and panic as the countdown began. She stood up from her seat, sat back down, stood up again, and then sat back down a second time. Finally, she started to come to her senses and pulled off the glove she'd been wearing. By that time, the professor had made it to five in the countdown.
Isla fumbled with her wand, dropped it, and scooped it back up. GET IT TOGETHER, GIRL! "Impervius!" she called out. What was she supposed to do? Tap her head or something? She quickly did that, because doing something was better than nothing. All this preparation she'd spend getting ready for that bucket, and now when it matter most, she was failing.
Did it work? Only time would tell! She waited...and waited... Had it hit her yet, and she just didn't realize it? She glanced down at a puddle of water at her feet and then felt her head. DRY. DRYYYYYYYYYY!

| YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers The buckets overhead didn't escape Carsyn's notice; she was faintly more curious about the two cups of water on their desks. Were they there to drink? The discussion about how to avoid getting wet was one that Carsyn was somewhat listening too, but after impervius and umbrella and ponchos were mentioned, was there other ways? Besides the obvious choice of staying inside when it was raining which wasn't always a viable option. Although, if Carsyn was being honest, there was something exhilarating about dancing in the rain but that was not particularly relevant to the discussion.
Impervius charm was one of review for the fifth year, particularly as she had utilized it during quidditch practices a few times already. As a fifth year though, did that mean she was expected to make it more challenging? Attempting a spell you were comfortable with as non-verbal? Maybe, but Carsyn had literally only read about non-verbals thus far in her education and since Professor Fuller-Thompson hadn't implied he expected it from older students, she wasn't about to start now. Not with the bucket of presumably water looming overhead.
Slipping on the glove, she tapped it with her wand, a careful pronunciation of impervius as she'd done on her quidditch robes and goggles numerous times and without another thought, dumped half the contents of the cup onto her palm. It rolled off, spilling onto her desk. In quick succession, the gryffindor prefect slid her notes away just in time. Close call and decidedly - especially at the Professor's new announcement on the buckets - she slid the notes into her bag, zipping it up. A tap of impervius on that and then another on the top of her head.
She was ready. Bring on the h two oh.
Which was just in the nick of time, as the bucket dumped overhead and she vaguely felt something but it spilled over her and onto the floor, similar to how the cup of water rolled off her gloved hand onto the desk. She was dry, as expected for someone who had utilized the spell before. Of course.

Naya decided that she could use the additional practice and set about waterproofing her second glove. Tapping it with her wand, she said, “Impervius”. Grabbing her second cup of water, she poured some of the liquid over her glove. Thank Merlin she didn’t feel any wetness. She was getting the hang of this, which was good because..............
Just at that moment, the professor announced what she had been dreading all along. The buckets were going to dump on them, just like at the water park. She knew it. Even worse than that, they only had ten seconds to prepare. Naya was not pleased. She had no desire to be wet just now and didn’t the professor know that you never poured water on a girl’s hairdo? That was cause for a fight where Naya came from.
She was wasting time with all of these random thoughts. Naya knew that she had better get her focus together and quickly. The clock was ticking. Seven, six, five........Naya started tapping herself and saying, “Impervius”, like crazy. Two, one.........One last tap.......”Imper......”. Down came the water in a rush. Naya gasped, expecting the worst. Fortunately, her spell seemed to work because she stayed dry. She let out a breath in relief. It worked, even under pressure. That was a good sign. She had kept her concentration and it worked.

| ~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes. Enough time? It certainly was. Claudine suddenly wished the lesson was over so she could escape Fuller-Thompson’s presence. However, the fact that they were moving on meant that the end was indeed drawing closer. She continued to listen dully to the new activity. Oh? They might be getting drenched? She didn’t care much about that. What was the big deal, anyway?
Claudine didn’t even bother looking up at the bucket above her. For one thing, she had no intention of fighting fully to remain dry. But her hand that held her wand had other ideas, so did her mouth. “Impervious,’’ she said flatly, doing the appropriate wand movement. The second year rested her chin on the desk, not expecting a drop of water to hit her.
That was exactly what happened.
Easiest Charms lesson ever. |

Bernie hadn't cast the spell on herself yet!!!
She tried not to panic, breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth, and doing her best to keep her hand steady. She pulled the hood of her robe up over her head to protect her hair, just in case her spell didn't work, and began to cast on herself. "Impervious!" she tapped her hair, her hood, her robe, her desk, all of it, multiple times as she cast the spell. "IMPERVIOUS!"
She was feeling better as she tucked her wand up her sleeve, and just in time as the bucket of water tipped out and down and over her in a great big splash. Bernie closed her eyes, preparing for the shock of cold water; but she was fine; she was waterproof. Whewwwwww.

Nina had called it from the very beginning when she had first gone to his office to complain politely ask to swap houses. This man was clearly ill-fit to be a professor! See how their suffering brought him joy? Was that not concerning to anyone else?
She G L A R E D at Professor Fuller-Thompson upon his explanation of the next part of class. It wasn’t like it was surprising. Nina had seen it coming. It was the entire reason she kept looking up at the bucket, out of fear that he would trigger them without warning. At least he had the decency to give a warning, this did pleasantly surprise the Slytherin.
Fortunately, Nina had quick reflexes and immediately jumped up from her seat before he could begin the countdown. She. Would. Not. Be. Getting. Wet.
A) Her mascara was NOT waterproof and B) her HAIR!!!!!
First she cast Impervius on her desk, then her bag, and her seat. Her notes were a priority and so were the rest of her belongings. Then she cast the spell on her clothes and her shoes. Finally, she needed to protect her hair and makeup from the— ”EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK,” the countdown had reached ONE and Nina hadn’t yet protected herself entirely from the incoming waterfall. And so she did what any reasonable person would do: shriek and jump out of the way.
