Bulletin Board

Atop the marble staircase in the Entrance Hall along the corridor that will direct you to the moving staircases, you stumble across a long, horizontal cork bulletin board that is encased in glass. Here you will find an array of notices and signs, stick up by tacks and push-pins, that are meant for the entire student body to read. Anything from requests, advertisements, lost and found notices, and gentle reminders can be viewed for all eyes to see.

If you have something you would like to add to this colourful, paper-filled board, you are more than welcome to do so. Simply slide over the glass surrounding the board (it is never locked) and stick on the board whatever it is you wish for everyone to know. Having this board for your use is a privilege, not a right, so use it responsibly. Any crude drawings or messages will result in the bulletin board crumpling them up and throwing your balled notice at your face, giving you a deep paper cut, before you even have a chance to slide the glass back to its original place.

With a somber expression to the students he passed by Curtis walked over to the bulletin board. He considered placing this in the Slytherin common room but figured this would be best for everyone else's attention. Taking the large poster he placed it firmly in the middle.

Answers to Betsy
Owner: Curtis Fuller-Thompson

Lost Tarantula, last spotted leaving the Great Hall at Beginning Feast and heading to Girl's Bathroom. May have gone to Common Rooms by now.
Betsy enjoys cuddling during bedtime with others and leaving playful nips on the person. Gets defensive when taken by surprise. Favorite place to hide is inside the pillows. If found, please return it to the nearest Professor.

After placing the poster up, Curtis took a moment viewing it. As if he was in deep thought over the six-legged creature. A small smile then formed, perhaps it was frm nostalgia over the creature or maybe something else.

Minjae did not find it surprising to already find someone pinning a lost pet poster to the bulletin board as he walked past it to get to the Great Hall. His dark brown eyes lingered on it for a second and they immediately went to the lower part.

Now, Minjae was already born with a silver spoon but who WOULDN'T like an extra few Galleons? He hadn't even seen which pet was missing as there was no picture so he quickly read the whole thing before he walked over to his fellow fourth year and tapped him on the shoulder. "If you pay me 3 Galleon now i'll make sure to find..." eeh... he checked the board again. "Betsy, within two days" he said as he held out his hand, not for a handshake but for him to give his money. "Did you name it that or...." was he forced to name it like that?

Wow, look at that, already someone wants to help him find Betsy. He turned back all traces of smiling erased to face the other guy. Wait, what? 3 Galleons up front? "How about I throw in an extra 3 Galleons if you find her within 2 hours," Curtis replied back. He was no fool, but he did have to admit that was a genius tactic, was this boy really in Hufflepuff? He heard they were notorious at finding things easily but business transactions?

Curtis grinned at the next question. "My grandpa gave her to me, so I didn't get to name her. But it's cool." Still though, that offer had him questioning. "How would you be able to find her within 2 days?" Did he have any experience with this besides a house's reputation? They weren't always accurate, after all.

Hebridean Black hide boots scuffing the floor as he walked, Mathys was taking a break from the necessary restoration efforts outdoors and on his way to the staff room when he spotted two students conversing by the bulletin board...and a fresh notice in place that he did not recall spotting on his way out this morning.

Approaching the two in stoic silence, the French man gave the notice a cursory read without so much as acknowledging either student just yet. Thank me later Arachnophobes. Yes, Mathys was certain that those of a certain disdain towards this particular set of creatures would be overjoyed to know that there was one rogue in the castle. No Undoubtedly this boy this Fuller-Thompson felt a bit privileged seeing he had familial connections on this Hogawarts' staff.

His cool blue eyes casually shifted to the pair and he unset his jaw before speaking. "Ziss ees what occurs when rules are not respected and one considers zemselves above zem," he spoke evenly as his gaze settled on the young Fuller-Thompson boy. "Who gave you permeession to breeng such a creature to Hogwarts, let alone ze feast?"

Because it had certainly not been one Mathys de Nostredame.

As tempting as the offer of an extra 3 Galleons was, Minjae shook his head no. "No deal" he said though it did look like it hurt him to say no. One thing he liked more than helping others was money. "My father taught me to never make a business deal if you can't uphold your promise. It wouldn't be fair for both parties involved. Also i'd have to work harder for the same money" He might be a Hufflepuff but he was definitely not placed in that House because he was a hard worker .

"Why would your grandfather give you a spider and not a crup for example? Isn't that ...more normal?" Although, Minjae had nothing to say about that. His gifts he received were watches or the newest gaming consoles. "I'm not sure yet" he was not a Ravenclaw, ideas did not pop up right there in his head. "The staff working at my father's house usually works with me to find what i lost. But since they aren't here now.......So with hard work and determination?" he laughed.

A laugh that faltered when he saw the CoMC professor walking towards them and his first instinct was to walk away. But why should he? As far as he knew it was not illegal to give out reward money nor working for it He thought that they were both cool and that the Professor would walk away after checking the board but he was sadly mistaken.

"Hello Professor..." he greeted quietly and then frowned as he looked at the Slytherin. Wait...the man was right. Why did he have a creature with him that was not on the school list? As the question was directed at the other fourth year, he remained silent and was very curious to know what his answer would be.

He didn't care whether it was a good or bad answer as long as their money transaction still stood.

"Really? Well, my father told me to never make a deal without guarantees." And preferably with a contract too. "If I gave you three galleons now, you'd have to return the money and double the amount should you not be able to find Betsy in two days." It was not only his risk but everyone else's risk with Betsy on the loose. "We'll have to get this in writing if you agree."

As for that question. "Well, we already have dogs and my grandfather runs a farm on top of that. I wanted to have something of my own that could stay close with me on hand and wasn't too hairy or slimy to hold. So my grandfather gave me her to see if I could handle it." Sure, it didn't fit regular circumstances but it is what it is. His eyebrows rose at the whole father's staff thing. Does this Hufflepuff have a commanding force? He opened his mouth to ask more about this when well, they were no longer alone.

"Oh, Bonjour Professor." Why was he squinting down at little old Curtis? Oh. This. Curtis blinked up at the man. He was partially confused. Surely, the Professor of all Creatures would be understanding of this? It wasn't like he was planning to breed Acromantulas with Betsy...... Or was he? "Permission?" Curtis asked without faltering. He needed to have permission to bring a tarantula? "I thought Arachnids fell under a similar category as having a hamster or guinea pig. Do they also require permission?" A genuine question, but memory serves correctly that adults didn't like being questioned. "I didn't know and wasn't expecting Betsy to have a free tour among the castle." Well, at least without his presence. Why do I have to explain myself? Shouldn't the safety of a scared tarantula and other people be more important? "Did you also want a hand in the reward for finding Betsy, Professor?" Curtis asked, remaining perfectly calm and poker-faced.

He was uncertain whether or not to assume that the young man was providing him with unnecessary lip. A hamster or a guinea pig? The absurdity of these words trickled off young Fuller-Thompson's tongue like unwanted mucus from a ailing abraxan's nostrils and required that the French man count backwards from ten in his head before addressing him.

Piers would be hearing about this incident when they ventured into the Forbidden Forest together to investigate, that much was certain. At least now Mathys would have another topic of conversation so as to avoid idle chit-chat yet again.

"I am deesappointed zat your fathair deed nat go ovair ziss with you prior to your arrival here at Hogwart," he sighed heavily as he clasped his hands firmly together on his waist. "Each Hogwarts student ees permitted to breeng ONE cat OR rat OR toad OR a pygmy puff OR owl. Anything not of zese species must receive explicit permission from ze Care of Magical Creatures professor prior to ze beginning of term. Seeing as you are een breach of ziss AND have misplaced your pet, a demonstration of negligence, I will be deducting ten points from your house with an additional subtraction of one point pair subsequent day you do not locate your tarantula."

And no, Mathys did not wish to "a hand in the reward". His sole priority was in the creature being found. Preferably before someone attempted to kill it.

Minjae agreed as he nodded his head. "I'm cool with making a contract for this" he said. Meaning that he was up for the deal. He had enough money in his family bank account which half of it was stored in Gringotts right now so losing a few Galleons if he wasn't able to find Betsy was nothing. "You want my autograph or a handshake? My autograph will be worth something one day" if he decided to take over the family company that is.

He'd love to hear more about the farm, as he really liked creatures and he also wanted to know WHY his grandfather had called a spider "Betsy" as it sounded more like a cow name to him. Maybe there was a story behind it and he was secretly intrigued by it.

But all he could do for now was stay silent as the Slytherin tried to explain why he had an tarantula as a pet to the Professor. He waited, awkwardly as the two exchanged words, holding his hands behind his back as he read the noticeboard again in an attempt to fake modesty. But what Curtis said made him look back at the two and frowned a little. That was probably the lamest excuse he had ever heard...

Well....at least he wasn't in Slytherin himself but he did feel bad for him for losing points already. But he wasn't going to risk losing points for Hufflepuff as well by defending him. He didn't mind losing points when it happened but he'd be doing something grand and not something lame like talking back to a Professor. "He won't" lose additional subtraction he meant. "I'll help find Betsy" And get that reward money " Will he get his points back once we find her, Professor?"

Curtis fought the urge to snort, an autograph. "A handshake will do." Offering his hand out, he didn't even get a chance to share his name when they were interrupted.

Ten. Points. TEN POINTS?! As if that wasn't enough, Curtis would lose an additional point per day Betsy is missing. What kind of school was this where you were punished for a pet running out of control? Okay fine, a spider didn't fit regulations for some reason but pets have a mind of their own. Curtis just stared at the Professor before him. So much for getting sympathy, stuff like that worked with all the Professors at his Primary school but this was a whole new level. He needed to try a new tactic... But at least he didn't have to waste fake tears on this one if it wasn't going to work in the end with getting away with stuff.

Curtis' head then jerked toward the Hufflepuff, oh dear, he didn't even know his name when he volunteered to help him. That was nice of him, then again he was in the house of... you know what, forget these reputations, Curtis wasn't going to hold them over a person's head if they were willing to help. "We'll get started right away." He was getting out of here now. He could imagine the Professor wanting to take even more points for just staring at him and not moving. Welp, not today.

Taking a stern breath, Mathys cast his gaze upon the young Hufflepuff and resisted the urge to tsk him for the thought. "Successfully retrieve ze tarantula and zat subject may be discussed. Not before." He had not yet decided whether it would be possible to do so, given this particular young man's attitude. A discussion with the boy's father would help ease him into that decision.

"See zat you do. And let us hope zat no one who is an arachnophobe," he continued, uttering that last word with disdain. "Has seen fit to destroy your pet." He turned towards the bulletin board and took down the poster. "When you have found your tarantula, bring her to me at my cabin. I will be showing zis to Professor Fuller-Thompson and have a chat with him soon."

OOC: somewhere in the school forums a has been edited in to a post. You two must find the post and quote it to have successfully found "Betsy". Successfully capture "Betsy" in the thread (enjoy some RP shenanigans with one another!) in question and then deliver her to Professor de Nostredame as instructed.

Minjae looked down at the hand and hesitated to shake it for a second or two. If he shook it, it meant that no physical contract was involved, which meant that after they had found Betsy, the Slytherin could pretend that the reward money was ever involved in this. But he also had a witness, a professor had seen the notice as well but would he care about that? It seemed to him that he cared more about the animal being found. An animal that, in Minjae's opinion, was perfectly capable of surviving on its own...

Eventually, the Hufflepuff shook his hand and watched as the poster was being taken down from the bulletin board by the professor. Good. He had wanted to tell the Slytherin to do that as well , not because of the reasons why the CoMC professor had done it but to eliminate any others of getting a chance to get that reward money.

"So..." he said, looking around in the hopes that Betsy would in one of the corners of the ceilings. Of course she wasn't. "Where do spiders like to hang out?" please say the kitchens cause he was hungry.

His own Schmoe-child was in his arms as he pinned a piece of parchment to the school wide bulletin board with a smile. He'd found that having the babies in classes was beginning to stress other students out and it was stressing the students out that were parents too. SO. Here came Professor Rainwater with a solution to end all solutions!
