Even standing out here, you can hear the soft sounds of classical music pouring from the ballroom. It's apparent that the marble floors have been newly polished. You can catch a glimpse of your reflection without much effort. A giant chandelier hangs from the centre of this space, bringing out the colours of the pale walls.
While the French must content themselves with a normal dinner in the dining hall across the foyer, your destination is the ballroom just inside the large, solid, double doors.
Don't dilly dally out here, there's a whole ball to enjoy and a speech coming up.
Missa wasn't sure what to think of this ball. It felt tainted and maybe a bit like a compensation for the humiliation they had been put through by the beauxbaton folk. The headmaster had convinced them to stay but the bitterness had stayed as well. Suffice to say, she wasn't as excited as she had once been about this grand night.
All the drama and the added stress of OWLs didn't help matters either.
But she was here, her arm linked with Eiji Rasting's - who had managed to blow her mind away in those dress robes of his. Pity the thrill of wearing a DRESS tonight herself had left her - seeing as Eiji had already seen her in her dress. She lacked enthusiasm, and somehow even the sight of the beautiful foyer and grand ballroom across didn't help pick up her mood.
At least the French kids were not invited though.
And at least Eiji was by her side.
Looking up at the grand chandelier, the fifteen year looked refrained the want to sigh, "you think they'll let us have a good time tonight? you know - not ruin it all up like they have everything else this term for us?"

Lenora felt irritated more than anything else. She had been really looked forward to the ball the first time around and since that hadn’t happened.. it didn’t feel the same anymore. Besides, she had been stressing about so many things lately that the idea of dancing and looking pretty.. having fun.. wasn’t something she actually cared about now.
She simply stood in the foyer, wearing the dress that she had been planning to wear for the ball-that-didn’t-happen, watching people enter the ballroom. Did she really want to go in? Or did she want to just go back to her dorm and sleep? The latter seemed like a better option at the moment.

Elegant. It was a beautiful word, wasn’t it? It was also a word that could never, ever be used to describe one Finneas Schmoe. For this lanky string-bean of a man was everything BUT elegant. He was the bumbling man he always was! Only this time, he was wearing a rather large set of dress robes. They were lilac! And clashed horribly with his hair.
He had forgotten his pocket protector though, and that in itself was a disaster waiting to happen... So he just needed to step out for a moment to— OH! He nearly ran into the young Gryffindor! The abrupt stop had him on his tip-toes so that he was VERY much towering over her. He did, however, look down to give her a SUPER BIG (borderline creepy) smile!! He wasn’t a scary dude. Just a strange one.
”Ms. Bell!” Ho, ho, ho. He laughed uncomfortably. If she was visibly upset, it went straight over Schmoe’s head. He was never good at that kind of thing, social cues. ”What are you doing out here? The ball is thataaaah awayyyy!” He punctuated the point with some wiggly brows and finger points to the door.

Eiji honestly thought it impossible that someone feel more miserable about a ball than himself, but Missa was giving the Slytherin a run for his galleon. As was Lenora by the look of it, but the fifth year was paying that Gryffindor no mind as they arrived. Even less inclined to do so when Professor S'more arrived.
It was not truly in his nature to be the romantic lead, at least not in such a public setting like this and he would STILL insist that his ball proposal in the library was a fluke and entirely his grandfather's persistence if pushed, but if there was a sight he hated more than he hated wasted potions ingredients...it was Missa's frown. Especially the way it deflated her marshmallow fluff cheeks.
"Hard to say," he replied neutrally. Even with the banshee headmistress' words and promises, anything offered by the French school felt empty and fabricated. He really hoped his grandfather got the woman sacked. "But...if it's any consolation, it is my entire intention to make sure you smile tonight." Among other things and he may be depending on his friend Felix Felicis to see that through.

Lenora was simply standing where she was, thinking. She considered the idea of going inside and spending some time with her friends but.. she was also in SUCH a mood. U g h. Why was this so stressful? However, before she could come to a decision, Professor Schmoe suddenly appeared out of nowhere??
........... She helplessly looked around her. [B]“Uh... yes well, I wasn’t sure about going in, Professor.”/B] Lenora cleared her throat and stared up at him, suddenly wondering if his smile had always looked this.. weird. Why was he even smiling so much? Was her miserable mood amusing to him?

Was Carsyn ready for summer vacation? Honestly, she couldn't be more ready which her attire for their last evening at Beauxbatons showed. The fifteen year old had been more than eager for the ball to happen on Valentine's Day; she'd had the perfect red dress and a date and everything. But somewhere in the last couple months between her peers being accused of ruining the ball and them all nearly getting thrown out of the school, she was completely unmotivated for an end-of-term ball. She had zero interest in seeing of Orion still wanted to be her date and literally could not WAIT for summer to officially start and her hiking and beach adventures to begin.
Comfortable boots, jean shorts and a casual top were the statement of the evening. As far as what the statement she was making, she wasn't quite sure? Perhaps it was just her way of rebelling because she didn't even want this ball anymore. It seemed almost like a consolation.

You know who else was in a mood? Schmoe was in a mood! A schmood, if you will. But his schmood was very different to that of Lenora's. Finneas was in the mood to bust out some atrocious dance moves and get his bop-bop-bop on! What a way to end the year, y'know?
.... It was exactly why the Gryffindor's words confused him. "Oh," he was puzzled. "Oh dear." He blinked a few times more than necessary, his twigy arms flailing by his sides. "Why is that, Ms. Bell?" Because if he recalled correctly, and he typically did, she was in her fifth year. Exams were over. The night was young. They would be on their way out of the school tomorrow. What was keeping her in the reception foyer?

Oh was he ready for this term to finally be at an end. The Headmaster was, of course, grateful they’d had somewhere to go during their hour of need but...what was that one saying about being better off out on the streets than with a constant nag? For the sake of his students being able to receive an education, he knew that wasn’t entirely true, but that didn’t mean he couldn't think it.
Malachi made his way down from his office after grabbing a few last minute things and sending them off. Arrangements had been made and summer couldn’t come any sooner.
Desmarais allowing them a ball for their last night in place of the feast was a grand gesture. He knew the students had been looking forward to it and he could certainly afford to pay no attention to the door across the foyer that housed the Beauxbatons students and their feast. Justice, made that easier. Them having their own ball taken away made that somewhat easier. What he couldn’t ignore, was the Gryffindor.
Malachi felt a scowl slip into place as he approached the young girl. “I’m honestly, while not surprised, disappointed you need someone to tell you the outfit you’ve shown up in is inappropriate for the occasion.” His students had done their own amount of boundary pushing this term, and he was at his wits end. “This is still a school function, Rose. You know the dress code as well as anyone else. If you couldn’t find anything nice to wear, you needed only show up in your uniform. Now, go change into ball or school attire, or remain up in your dorm for the evening.”
Honestly, these students were something else. Even when they knew better, they still liked to pretend otherwise. As if she thought this would end in any other way than a second trip to her dorm.
He’d have taken points but at this point, it wouldn’t be fair to punish others for the girl’s selfishness. Malachi stood and waited right there for her to turn around and head up the stairs.

Sebastian was looking all handsome and dapper in his dress robes, but tonight just...didn't feel completely right. It had been a long year, and an even longer term having to be at this house of crazy, and he was just ready to be home with his family. Hopefully next term would be a little...easier for him.
That being said, he still wanted to have a good last night, even if it was at this place. At least there was going to be a ball! He could use a bit of dancing. Sebastian made his way into the reception foyer, but didn't go into the grand ballroom yet.
Maybe he wasn't as ready as he thought he had been....

Rowan made his way out in the foyer from the food he had just eaten to take a breather, away from the embarrassment from others seeing him in pain. He had definitely eaten more than he could handle, and his stomach was starting to hurt. He kinda knew this would happen, but given the lack of sweets all quarter he couldn't help himself when he saw the chocolate fountain and amount of cakes and crepes.
Taking a quick swig from the water in his hand, he noticed an older Hufflepuff boy he had seen around the common room before. The boy looked hesitant to go in, and Rowan glanced behind himself. Was there a dragon in there? Why was the older boy so hesitant? Glancing back, he gave a concerned look. "You alright?" he asked.
Eron mentioned, plus a bit re: her sister and Trent :P

It wasn’t the dress she had been planning on wearing had the original ball ever happened, but a lot had happened since then. For one, Carys had needed to watch as her classmates had been put on trial for a ridiculous claim that subsequently had been rather spectacularly proven wrong. Not to mention the fact they’d all nearly been expelled from Beauxbatons, or more actually had been basically heading out the door until the dragon had happened. But, most of all, she hadn’t had a date for the ball-that-hadn’t-happened, and now she was looking for Eron before heading inside, flowers in her hair just because she’d felt it appropriate.
It seemed as if there were several others lingering outside the ballroom, too. Among others, she’d caught a glimpse of her twin looking very much not in ball mode. Even before it appeared the headmaster was giving Carsyn an ultimatum or something. It didn’t really look good either way, and she’d started worrying about her sister. Well, and remembering other things too.

Patrick walked into the foyer tugging on his bow tie. He wasn’t totally comfortable in all this dresses to the nines garb but he was trying. Especially if he was going to make a quidditch team professionally, he’d have to show up to things like this every now and again. He noticed Rose showed up in street clothes and shook his head. He was absolutely not surprised but figured head master Trent had it all under control and he didn’t need to do a thing. Looking at the doors he sighed trying to tell himself to just go in already

Rylee had been looking forward to the Valentine's day ball months earlier and was rather disappointed when it didn't happen. So it came as no surprise to anyone that when she heard their final feast was going to include a ball she was ecstatic about it. What better way was there to finish a term than food, dancing and time spent with friends? None, that's what. This was right up her alley and she was more than ready to have a good time.
Making her way to the reception foyer, the ginger haired lioness was indeed wearing the exact dress she would have worn to the previous ball with only one minor change. Rather than it being red she had changed the color to a lovely pale pink. On her head was one of her one of her handmade flower crowns made up of pink and white lilies.
Blue-gray eyes swept over those standing around, each getting a warm friendly smile from her. Everyone looked amazing all dressed up in their ballroom best. It was easy to hear the soft music that was coming from inside the ballroom and while she couldn't wait to get inside and start dancing she remained right where she was. Rylee had agreed to not only wait out here for her boyfriend but her cousins as well so that they all could enter the ballroom together. Hopefully they wouldn't take long.

Nora didn't want to spend her last day in the dorms, as she'd been hiding there most of the time for the last few months, either studying for OWLs or just resting. Besides, it was time to try to be in a good mood and have fun with her friends.
She chose a light yellow dress, and braided her hair in a loose hairdo. Makeup, she just wore some blush and pink lipstick, simple. Once she arrived to the foyer, she looked around for her friends; did notice Carys and Eron were also there, and Carsyn having a conversation with the headmaster. Maybe after, Nora would approach her and ask if she was alright, or offer her help.

She didn't want to disappoint him but that comment made it clear that she was - especially after the trouble he went through with the puzzle proposal, and then the ENTIRE ordeal with the beaux drama itself.
He was dressed up, and he was here - the least she could do was ....smile and not look so miserable.
Smiling softly at his words, she tugged him toward the grand ballroom, "I know. And you are already making it happen. Come on, least we could do is have some fun at this thing - and not let them think they got to us," she said, giving a pointed look at the beaux students sitting at the dining room.

Bah humbug. Before Carsyn was able to actually enter the ballroom she was interrupted because of course she wouldn't be allowed into a formal-ish dance looking as she was. Wait, though, not surprised she showed up like this?? What did that even mean? Was the headmaster a MIND-READER?!?? "I .... I..." she started to say something, but honestly all the words escaped her, especially when she spotted Carys there with Eron. Eron -- the boy she was supposed to be going on an adventure with this summer. The boy who she'd thought she would be at the beach with and now, seeing him there, with her sister... It was; she had even less words if that was possible.
"I'm ... just ... with all due respect, Headmaster, this dance ... seems like a consolation?" And yet, she also knew the shorts were inappropriate, which was also why, she hung her head and shook her head, "but ... I'll ... I have something... a dress ... i'll be back. Sorry." Chewing on her lip, she swallowed and turned to head off to her dorm.
But not before catching sight of Nora. Writing buddy, Nora. Alone. She paused by her friend and said quietly, "Come with me, N?"

Nora stood around for a couple of minutes, wondering what Carsyn could've told the headmaster. Soon, her friend approached her and asked her come along, "Uh, sure. Anything I can help with?" she asked her in a whisper tone.
"You okay, Carsyn?" Nora asked, concerned as they walked away towards the dormitories.
