| | Papillionlisse Common Room Decorated in purple with accents of wooden upholstery, the Common Room of Maison d'Papillionlisse is quite possibly the brightest and airest of the three houses. The largest area of the room is the first thing you see: a space created especially for the visual artists of the house. The windows are wide and open, and shine directly on a large clearing where "golden hour" lasts quite nearly the entire day. A wall made of drawers containing every art supply imaginable is right nearby, along with easels resting against the walls, which makes it a favourite hangout for the artists of this house.
Against the wall that houses the entrance is a large oil painting of the school, commissioned from Claude Monet, an alumnus of this house of artists. Tapping the frame to the tune of the opening phrase of the school song opens a doorway to a small room that is soundproofed, created as a sanctuary for older students studying for their certificate of education.
A hall of portraits, blocked off from the main area only by a sheer curtain, houses a grand piano, and is a space for musicians of all instrumental inclinations to practice or ask their predecessors for advice, artistic or otherwise.
The rest of the common room is lit by a series of chandeliers and decorated with lavish eclecticness, with one wall made entirely of fluttering crêpe butterflies and their indigo-stained wings. Dormitories are accessed via stairwells to the east and west. Bienvenue á la maison, Papillionlisse and Gryffindor.

Freyr sat down and started playing the piano. No one was around but he probably would not notice. He loved music, every time his fingers gently danced around piano keys, he remembered his mother. She was the one who taught playing the piano but most importantly the feeling of the music. Freyr felt like music was a type of magic. It had to be. Freyr continued playing the piano, he played his favourites which happened to be also favourites of his parents. Then he improvised some melodies. He was happy.

She didn't really want to be around happy people, but she didn't want to be by her miserable self either. So she grabbed some parchment, and a self-inking quill in purple ink, and headed down to the common room.
Her eyes immediately went to the piano where she saw someone playing. It was a lovely sound, and she sat herself nearby to listen as she dated her parchment. But she didn't feel like writing with the music playing. "That's really nice," she said to the boy. She didn't remember his name.

She didn't notice the girl sitting with her parchment. He wondered whether he should continue to play or not. He then realized he did not know the girl's name. He said "I am Freyr by the way. Is it ok if I continue playing?"

Freyr, she repeated in her head in hopes she would remember the name. She now remembered four names, maybe more. Those she had met in Diagon Alley, and on the carriage over to the school. "No, please do. H-How long have you been playing the piano?" She figured getting to know people she'd be sharing a common room with for the next seven years wouldn't hurt. Unless, of course, he wanted to focus on his music.

"Since I was 5, my mother is a wonderful pianist. She is like a musical Veela." said Freyr while playing a melody sounded like those he heard while riding a carousel.
"Do you play anything, Abra?" said Freyr, and then added "I don't have much to offer but is there anything you would like to listen?" and smiled a little not to look like he saw himself as a musical genius. He realized that blood rushed to his ears and thought "Well done, Freyr, people will think you are arrogant now"

Her own attention wasn't always so concentrated on anything. She couldn't imagine being driven enough to learn something, and learn it so well. "You're very lucky," she said before she realised she had opened her mouth. She missed her mother. "Did she teach you?"
Abra put her parchment and quill down on the little table and leaned back in the chair. "No," she said, with a slightly amused smile. "I wish. I don't think I'd ever practice." And he must have practiced a lot. He was very good. And also nice to offer to play something she wanted to listen to. "Um... do you know anything from The Nutcracker?" she asked.

Freyr noticed a wisp of sadness, so he decided to cheer her up. He didn't know where that urge came from but whenever he saw someone unhappy he would immediately feel the urge to make a joke or anything else to cheer them up. He didn't think about this behaviour of his.
Freyr replied with a simple yes to her first question, he didn't want to think about his mother. Then he said, "I know The Waltz of the Flowers" and started to play it, he remembered the time he saw it with his grandfather. He felt weird, everything was different now. He thought about what strange thing happiness was. He was in France and happy again.

She didn't expect others to give details about themselves, when she didn't. The music of The Waltz of the Flowers was lovely, and she enjoyed listening to it right here in the common room. "Do you have siblings?" She asked him. "I was really hoping to see Hogwarts." It was all she had ever known from her family, who had all attended. She knew nothing of other Wizarding schools, which meant all of the information she had learned in her childhood meant nothing at this school.

Did you know there is a music hall where you can find almost every musical instrument?" said Freyr, Then he added "No, I don't. Do you?" he has always wanted a big brother or a big sister but obviously that was impossible. But he didn't feel alone, he had friends whom Freyr could trust. Yet they were in Durmstrang. So "Time to make more friends." thought Freyr. |

She wasn't much for riddles, so it was a good thing she wasn't in Ravenclaw. Even though she had never been to Hogwarts, it was in her home of Britain. Exploring in a French school just felt wrong, but she wanted to explore Hogwarts.
Eyebrows rising high, she said "No I didn't know that. Can you play other things?" It would have been perfect if she did play an instrument.
Abra shook her head, "No, it's just me." She didn't even have cousins that she had met.

Freyr said "I sing but I don't prefer to do outside of the door of my room." He smiled and "But no other instrument." and continued "You know, someday I want to put together a rock band but I also want to study the origins of magic. I guess those two wouldn't go together." Freyr felt like he talked too much, but he was happy to find someone to talk, it was difficult to be a first-year. |

"I suppose I am capable of singing, it just doesn't sound smooth." Or nice. But she still sang along to songs sometimes. "The origins of magic would be interesting. But a rock band is pretty cool." History was something she was interested in, too. Learning about the origins of magic is something she would like to learn about. "I wonder if they cover that in History of Magic." Perhaps they might. Or at least the teacher might know something. "I'm going to study Horticulture." She had decided when she was 8.

I wish I was a bit better at Herbology. What do you want to do when you become a Horticulturist? Is it Horticulturist by the way?" and smiled embarrassedly. |

I uh..." she wasn't sure she was any good, at all. "I can try. What songs do you know for singing to?" she asked.
Ah, well, that was unfortunate. "Perhaps there's some books about it in the library." She had high hopes that the library was full of everything they could possibly want to learn about.
She nodded, "Yup, a horticulturalist. I'd like to design gardens for people to life off. My grandparents live on a farm, but i would be cool to design rooftop gardens in busy cities that people could actually live off." Eventually she'd like to stay on the farm, but she also wanted to help other people who didn't have the luxury of space.

"That's so cool, it amazes me what one can do with magic." said Freyr genuinely interestedly. "I will most definitely search the library, you're right." said he and then added, "would you like to help me?" "Do you know this one?" said Freyr and started playing Imagine, an emotional song by a muggle musician named John Lennon. Freyr has always thought that muggles who wrote songs like these must know the magic of the music. |
