This is where a large bulk of the school's events are held. This is the widest room in the entire castle, fitted on three sides with wall windows and silk curtains. On an average day, the room is bare save for the grand piano that sits in the centre. This is moved off to the corner during special occasions. The floors are tiled and have anti slipping charms to prevent accidents on its exceptionally clean surface.
Dance lessons are held here periodically, regardless of upcoming events. This is another quiet space within the school, usually empty and usually undisturbed. Should you need a moment alone or a bit more silence for your concentration with the school now being twice its usual capacity, it might not be such a bad idea.
Eating in this room, outside of special occasions, is strictly prohibited. Dueling, fighting or any other form of behaviour that can result in destruction or chaos is also strictly prohibited.
Analiese laughed off the joke given by Avalon. "I threw on the first thing I could find. Somehow they were all yellow.", she said, untucking her shirt. That was getting uncomfortable. She looked at Trent as she started speaking. Did they have to change? Ugh.
She went over to the dresses after she wrote her name on the list. She picked out a baby blue dress with long sleeves and jewels studded at the neck and brim. She went into the changing rooms, changed and looked into the mirror. She twirled around. She looked... alright.
Blake couldn't believe he was here ... why oh why did he show up.... He didn't really want to dance, it was super embarssin being here. But his father's latest owl about him being a 'loner' and needing to make friends still rubbed him the wrong way. So here he was at this stupid dance lesson.
And then the headmaster made a comment about changing?? ugh ...... rolling his eyes ever so slightly he went to the dressing room, changed and signed the registry stating he was here.

Elisa was waiting patiently as more students came in to join on the fun. A least the Headmaster was in a good mood. She smiled kindly at one, "Hi Chloe," she remembered taking some classes under her mum's teaching when younger. "I think we'll be showing more than learning." With a wink. She might as well start doing stretches before more arrived.
Her eyes met with one of the Slytherin students who lounged by the wall nearest her. "Hello Kaiser," He looked, well, quite pensive, she would fully understand if he wanted to remain in solitude. As for the Creature teacher that showed up... yes, her blue eyes noticed. What type of skincare potion did that man use to make it look so glistening? Unconsciously, she tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear before clearing her throat. He was always giving the memory of Professor Wayland competition in her mind. She then smiled kindly at Patrick as he passed by.
Now it was showtime. Hearing the instructions, Elisa went with the others to her section for changing. Some of these costumes were a bit... too showy for her taste. She liked to stand out but look modest at the same time... and the outfit has to be comfortable enough for her to move around in most importantly. After choosing an attire, she tied her hair up into a low ponytail before signing herself into the register.
Alessandro did not dress comfortably as a rule. All of his clothes were tailored, expensive and always looked slightly claustrophobic, but he wore it well. He sported gloves, too. They were the staple fixture of his everyday, casual and formal attire.
When he walked into the hall, he nodded politely at the Headmaster, but did not linger. He knew better than to bother the man after the events in autumn. For the record, Jove Montmorency was perfectly well, and back to irritating the population at large with his "music".
He rested his gloved thumbs in his suspenders and waited for instructions.
Until they happened. Then, he was horrified by them. He was being asked to borrow clothes? Clothes that did not belong to him. He could feel his skin start to itch. He even scratched at the back of his hand.
There was no avoiding it. He approached Trent and quietly asked, "Sir, I would prefer not to wear clothes that aren't mine. I'm happy to leave, change and come back, but..." Please, don't make him wear other people's clothes.

"Erm, hi Claudine," Bernie awkwardly greeted her friend back. She didn't know if her buddy would still be mad at her or not because of the whole suspension thing. Maybe she didn't want to associate with Bernie A N Y M O R E because she thought she was trouble. Maybe she....
Oh, huh, guess that was a good question. Bernie's eyes darted around the room, suspiciously taking in who else was here, before landing back on Claudine. "Maybe Trent's going to dance with Notredame for us, and then..." er, how did Schmoe fit into this? "Schmoe's the conductor." Ya know, he'd wave his wand and make the music come out? He was the nerdiest of the three MEN that were here, so he was clearly the NON-DANCER of the pack.
She straightened up then as the Headmaster made an announcement to go and c h a n g e. UGH. YUCK.
She turned back to Claudine but the Slytherin was looking everywhere except her way. "Excuse you," the young Lion announced, hitching her arm around Claudine's and starting to steer her to the changing rooms, "If I have to do this, then SO. DO. YOU."
That's right. They would always be getting into trouble together, HENCEFORTH, LET IT BE KNOWN, ETC.
Little did Claudine know that Bernie too had questions about their budding friendship. If she had known… well, she wasn’t sure how good of a job she would have done to reassure the Gryffindor that they were fine. As for Bernie’s take on what was going to go down, Claudine nearly laughed. Instead, she managed a grin. “That would make quite the entertainment.’’ Already, she was envisioning the scenario.
Yeaaah, it was best she say a quick goodbye to her friend and head off. While everyone was here, it would be a great idea to sneak into the Rose Garden. Would Bernie want to go with her? Claudine brightened at the thought and was about to ask when she felt the arm sneaking around hers. She tensed immediately and looked down slowly at the linked arms. Her jaws clenched. Physical contact with anyone… she hated it. She gently tried to escape free herself from the hold. “Okay, fine. Let’s go.’’ She had gotten so distracted that she had forgotten her idea of the Rose Garden.
She led the way to the girls’ changing rooms. “See you in a few,’’ she said stiffly, still trying to get over the touch from earlier. Reluctantly, Claudine slipped into a room. She hugged herself and she surveyed the clothing. Ugh. What should she choose?
In the end, the Snakette settled for black leggings with a slightly loose tee shirt with a cartoon style snake printed on the front. Claudine quickly registered as requested.

It was highly unfair.
But she was trying to keep up, and she was here. Late, ofcourse - because of a Potions essay but she was here. Just in time for headmaster's instructions too. Her eyes wandered around the room as he spoke, and she couldn't help but go a bit wide eyed at Nostredame's attire - BECAUSE WHAT EVEN. These beaux people would out do themselves during the ball too, wouldn't they? Certainly if they are taking dance practices so seriously too.
Somehow tearing away her eyes from the man, and nodding at the headmaster's instructions, the brunette made her way to the changing room - noticing only then one Eiji Rasting PARTICIPATING too. Surely her eyes were deceiving her. But if he could ask her to the ball in such a romantic way - he could do anything.
Grinning to herself, she went through the dresses and picked one peach coloured one - it was too loose on her body but it would do for now. Tying up her hair in a bun next, she made her way to the register and signed her name in, all the while LOOKING OUT for Eiji - very very curious to see him in dress robes. But he was nowhere to be seen. Hmm.
Did he find himself a way out?
Hmm.
Tiny disappointed, she found herself standing by a first year (Cecelia) - and her rather puffy dress. Chuckling to herself, she gave the young girl a small grin, "that dress looks quite perfect on you, y'know"
The older Ravenclaw got a BIG smile as Cecelia gazed up at her, PLEASED to hear the compliment she'd been given. "Thank you! It's good for twirling, too, which makes it EXTRA perfect." Obviously a demonstration was in order, so the small blonde did a little twirl, stopping after a moment with an expression that said 'SEE WHAT I MEAN?'
"I like your dress, too." It was very elegant and very grownup. "You look like a proper adult and the color is real pretty on you." But, she wasn't sure it'd twirl as well as hers, did she know?
"You think they'll assign us someone to dance with?"

"Be quick and don't let the Headmistress see you." He didn't wanna fight it. Honestly. It was an easy issue to solve and there was no need to make a whole event out of a small request. "That goes double for your fellow schoolmates." Lest they all wanna start going back for their own things as well. So far, he was the only to ask. Malachi would have been happy to keep it that way.
Straightening, the man looked to the rest of the students. "Once you've changed and signed, you'll need to find yourself a partner. Before you ask, that means one person." Groups were not being accommodated this lesson. It wasn't going to be that sort of dancing.
"Partner up, pick a space on the dance floor and we can get things started."
The Headmaster looked to both men present, a silent signal for them to offer their services should anyone be left without a partner.
He...would do, too.....but only if it absolutely came to that.

Ayana was just late enough to be properly flustered about it. Nothing had seemed to go right today. Between almost losing an entire class' homework, a calculator emergency and seemingly having no appropriate clothes all of a sudden, the Arithmancy professor quickly jogged strode in and saw that they hadn't started yet.
She sighed in relief, and looked towards the headmaster as he instructed the students to split into pairs. She took this time to do a brief headcount of her Ravenclaws, noting some prominent faces that were missing and making a mental note to tell her prefects to stress the importance of these lessons. No dance instruction, no ball. She was already anticipating fights at the door.
Once she was done with counting her students, Ayana nodded over at Schmoe and Nostradamus - no, Nostradame, de Nostradame - in greeting. Was he related to Nostradamus? Ayana had never actually thought to ask. But, that was for later. Time to prepare to be stepped on by uncoordinated teenagers.

Cole stood to the side and observed as more and more of his peers came in including his cousin Carys. He waved slightly to her before she went to change into a dress. Tugging at the shirt that was sitting too close to his neck Cole kept stretching until Headmaster Trent gave the next set of instructions. They needed to find a partner to practice dancing with, great just perfect, he was potentially going to be stepping on a girl's toes in just a few moments.
Letting his gaze wander around the grand ballroom, Cole raised his hand as he called out trying to sound enthusiastic and ready for action. "Does anyone want to be my partner? I'm free...."

Analiese twirled out of the changing room and nearly fell over. Okay, she definitely wasn't going to try that again. Itching her wrist, she calmly waited for Trent's next instructions. This dress was very itchy. Ah, why did all beauty have to come with a price? They had to find a partner now - great, just great. She looked around for a potential person to step on the toes of dance with.

Claudine had wandered off a bit after signing her name, looking at everyone. Most seemed eager and happy, others not so much. She definitely fell into that latter category. The only reason she was sticking around? It was because of Bernie. Speaking of her friend… Claudine would recognise that voice anywhere, especially if it was delightfully calling out to Blake in that way.
The girl silently sidled up to the other two, coming to a stop beside Bernie. “Here I am.’’ Her serious gaze swept over them. Blake looked passable; Bernie looked adorable and like a professional little dancer. Naturally, she would not be telling either of them her thoughts. All they got was a nod of approval.
“I hope this…’’ Claudine gestured at the room with both hands. “Doesn’t last too long. Bernie, I thought we might want to sneak into the Rose Garden sometime, just for the fun of it.’’ Since they had been forbidden to be there, the Garden now seemed appealing more than before.
Claudine turned to look at her Headmaster as he spoke up. Oh, no! Partners! Her eyes immediately darted to Bernie but Blake had beaten her to it. And the idiot was blushing. She rolled her eyes, ignored the slight jealousy creeping up on her (Say whaaat? She didn’t do jealousy) and looked away. If Bernie wanted to partner with no-fun Blake then fine.

Aww, look at Blake turning all red... heeheeheeee. He looked like a cherry tomato who would have rather had anyone for a partner BUT her. Bernie opened her mouth to tell him just that, when he suddenly asked to be her dance partner!

"We'll take turns dancing with each other," she reassured Claudine, quickly letting go of their wrists as she remembered how the other girl hadn't liked linking arms earlier. Yes, Kaiser had heard the instruction to find a partner.
No, he hadn't made a move to do so yet.
He was instead belatedly realising that he probably should have expected this; how would they teach them to dance if they weren't going to ask them to partner up. Although, Kaiser would argue that he would probably manage just fine with an imaginary partner... except that that was maybe ridiculous enough that he instantly decided against even attempting it.
Kaiser was not a person who lacked in confidence. Self-esteem, yes, confidence, no. But it still took him a moment or two to muster up the motivation to step forward and silently offer himself up as a partner. Privately, he hoped for someone that 1. he knew, and 2. was not a tiny first year. No offence or anything, he was just thinking about practical height differences.

Ilya emerged from the changing room in a colorful, glitterful blazer. He still wore his uniform pants and shirt, but the blazer should be the perfect outfit choice for a dance lesson. He was proud of his choice, his grandma charmed it herself! He went and stood next to a couple of older students, all confident he could pick an older girl up for this ball.
Why was he confident? 'Cause he got the moves. His mother often took him with her to her work, which involved a lot of ballerinas dancing, so he'd sometimes imitate them in the corner. Eventually, he grew up to know how to balance on his feet well, and how to gracefully carry his movements. That was dancing, right??

How in God's green earth did Blake end up in this situation AGAIN!!! What was with these 2, first of all did the EVER do anything without each other?? From the rumors Blake had been hearing he was sure they were suspended together to, and now he was tied up again in this mess.
"Ugh ... did the Headmaster says 2s?" He asked, trying his best to get out of it, he may have asked Claudine if she had been there first, it wasn't about one over the other ... it was about the closest person to him that he recognized. "I mean ... do we really need more trouble?" He added slyly, doing his best to not bring up to previous incident of the apples.
But then he was shoved/pulled into Claudine smashing his face against her shoulder. "Owwwwwwwww" He cried out grabbing his nose ..... he was afraid there was going to be blood.

Well, this was a colossal waste of time! Tina should be in the library studying for her Potions NEWT, not… doing this. She wasn't even remotely interested in the ball! She didn't like frilly dresses or dancing or really any kind of forced human interaction, and even if that was her cup of tea, she'd already done this before. She used to go to school here, remember? One would think that in four years at Beauxbatons, she would've endured enough of this superficial nonsense to know how to act at a ball, right? Apparently not, it seemed.
The only reason Tina was here at all was because her dads wanted her to go to the ball… something about "making the most of her final year" … and she respected them too much to go against their wishes. That and this stupid dance lesson was mandatory for the ball. So she was here at the appointed time, dressed for dance in comfortable shoes, purple track pants. and a black top with a butterfly pattern that matched her hair tie. She'd greeted the headmaster and professors upon her arrival, more out of obligatory politeness than anything else, and stood near the wall somewhat removed from the other students.
Blink, blink. Did he just say-? It was all Tina could do not to stare in disbelief when Trent said to get changed. See? WASTE. OF. TIME. If they were supposed to wear formal attire to dance, why not mention that on the notice instead of springing these crazy costumes on them? There was no telling where they came from. For all she knew, someone might've soaked them in bubotuber pus or something! Gee, I wonder whose brilliant idea this was, she thought to herself. Was Trent trying to inject some unneeded silliness into the situation? Or maybe it was Desmarais's idea to further scapegoat the Hogwarts students?
For now, Tina's money was on the latter, but she supposed it didn't matter who thought of the costumes. It wasn't like her objections to them would make any difference. She made her way to the changing room, searching the selection of costumes for the least garish option - and preferably something easy to move in. Eventually she chose a short-sleeved green dress with jewels at the waist and a pair of white opera gloves that somewhat matched the jewels, more for practical purposes than anything. If she was going to dance with some random person, she wanted to minimize contact as much as possible! After tying her hair (which had previously been in a ponytail) up in a bun, she returned from the changing room and signed her name in the register:

Tina Dantes
Seventh year
Ravenclaw
Now came the part Tina was dreading most: the actual partnering up. For now she stayed at her place beside the wall, her dark eyes scanning the room. If anybody wanted to be her partner, they could come to her because she was not putting herself on the line for unnecessary rejection! But then again… she just realized that she didn't know anybody here. There were people she knew by sight but no one she'd actually talked to. What if nobody wanted to be her partner? What if she got stuck with Trent or de Nostredame? Yeah, no… that was not happening!

Tina reluctantly moved closer to the center of the room, keeping an eye out for someone who she didn't tower over and was not a professor. How awkward would it be to have a boy half her height trying to lead her through a waltz?! She spotted a boy she recognized from lessons who looked about her own age and height, but…why was he just standing around? Did that mean he was free to partner with someone or what? Only one way to find out, she supposed.
Taking a deep breath, Tina cautiously approached. "Do you mind - being my partner, I mean?" she asked. She hoped he would see that accepting her offer was the most practical option - aside from the minimal height difference, it kept them both from getting stuck with professors. Plus, she was wearing opera gloves, so no actual contact was required - but she wasn't going to waste time pleading her case if not.

Patrick noticed everyone was changing into different clothes. Why did they have to wear formal wear to learn to dance? That seemed a bit extreme to him. But not wanting to draw any attention to himself for staying in his gray sweatpants. Elisa had smiled at him as he walked toward the changing room. He gave her a smile back before he finally got into the changing room.
He wondered just how much trouble he would get in if he didn't wear the dress robes. He wasn't going to stay in his sweats, obviously, but still none of these dressrobes really screamed Patrick. He noticed Eiji sitting off to the side. He wondered what his opinion was, but didn't ask, just moved further into the room. Finally getting something he liked he put on an all black tux. Black pants, shirt, tie, coat, it was as far from Patrick's normal attire but it felt.... right.
He came back out to hear they needed a partner for dancing. He glanced around. Tina had just asked Kaiser, he noticed a lot of the younger students. Then his eyes tracked back over to Elisa. Walking closer trying to not look like that creepy guy no one wanted to be around. He smiled at her, "Hey Elisa, want to be partners?" He really wanted her to say yes so he didn't have to dance with Headmaster Trent.

Hands in his pockets, which was where they always seemed to go whenever he idled for more than a few seconds, Kaiser inadvertently let his mind start to wander. As he never really got lost enough in his thoughts that he was unaware of his surroundings, he soon became aware that someone was approaching, and automatically turned his head to look in their direction.
Oh, yes. He knew this girl from some of his lessons. Dantes. Ravenclaw. He didn't know her well, but at least their eyes were pretty much level with each other's. As far as looking for a dance partner went, that seemed more or less ideal to him.
He smiled lightly at her, and turned to face her proper. "I do not mind," he said, and took his hands from out of his pockets as though to show he was, uh... ready, or something? Willing. Body language being important, and everything. "I am Kaiser." Just so she knew.

"Generous as you're trying to be, Grantham, I did say everyone needs a partner." He'd also said they couldn't be more than two. One would think it was obvious her idea of sharing would not do but he wasn't averse to spelling it out either. These First Years had proven slow in the critical thinking and common sense department. He would hold their hands as long as he could. "Find another partner if you're leaving those two to dance. If not, Blaze will have to find someone else. There are plenty of available students."
Speaking of, were they quite done angsting and pretending their fellow schoolmates were afflicted with the plague yet? How long did it take to grab a partner?
"Everyone, we'll be beginning. I'll take it slowly at first, explaining as I go along. Try to follow the steps as carefully as possible. Ayana, if you don't mind." He...wasn't sure how much she'd mind, but it wouldn't do to teach the students using De Nostredame. The Headmaster could only imagine how discouraged some would be if their steps didn't add up.
And Schmoe was...Schmoe.
"You'll first have to decide who will lead. Typically, the male leads, but I'll leave that up to you." And hope Desmarais wasn't watching their every move at the ball. Without waiting for the man's consent "There are six steps. You can count them out at first while you're still getting the hang of it."
At that, the man conjured a magical board. On the board where a pair of footprints that moved magically to demonstrate the steps needed appeared. "We'll go without music first. I'll be counting."
Malachi extended his hand to the Arithmancy Professor so they could begin. "And one two three...four five six...one two three...four five six ...back left front right...back left front right."
OOC: The practice has begun! There's a link to the steps for a waltz and a video as well should you need help visualizing. Feel free to have your charries be masters or absolutely horrendous at it. You don't have to wait on Trent or Sissay, just imagine they've begun dancing already and have your charries follow...or try to if they aren't the best lol. The professors are available in case you can't find a partner <3

She did not mind. In fact, she was happy to demonstrate. At home Ayana often took on the leader role while waltzing, back when she and Grace had chosen to dance together and enjoy it, but she knew the traditional part well enough. That, and she did not think the students would be able to keep straight faces had the headmaster chosen to demonstrate with dear Professor Schmoe. "Certainly," Ayana drifted towards Trent with ease and just managed to contain a short chuckle at the board that had appeared.
Ayana had never seen anyone teach the waltz with a board and charts, but perhaps between the demonstration and the.. arrows? the students would catch on quicker. One could never predict these things with teenagers.
Then they're off. One two three, one two three. Ayana's hand, the one not extended outward and within Malachi's, was lightly resting on top of his shoulder. She could officially add waltzing with her boss to her list of life experiences. "Look at the way we're not clutching on to each other but lightly resting our hands in the proper positions. The waltz is a light and smooth dance," she wanted to recommend that they all try and stay on the balls of their feet, but that might be a tad too advanced. Perhaps when they'd all start to get the hang of it.

He really wanted her to say yes so he didn't have to dance with Headmaster Trent.
After signing up, Elisa stood by as they were now supposed to partner with someone on the dance floor. Well, this was going to be awkward, she had thought. There were alot of younger students in the room and then possibly pairing with one of the professors. Elisa smiled at Tina straight up asking Kaiser. There was no reason that she couldn't ask someone herself. Well, maybe there was one.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Patrick approaching. Not wanting to scare him off, Elisa waited until his footsteps grew closer before returning the smile he gave. "Sure Patrick, let's be partners." Sounding relieved, he was nice to her and not someone she'd felt awkward around. Guess they were meant to start practicing now after the Headmaster told them to.
Elisa watched him dance with Professor Sissay to take in their steps. Watching it was one thing, actually doing it was other. "Well.. it doesn't look that difficult." Commenting lightly, "What do you think? Ready to give it a shot?" Elisa asked, in a soft tone to gage his confidence in it. She had no idea about Patrick's dancing experience after all.
Ilya's eyes kept moving between the pretty Tina he met on the train and watched in the common area eat more than once (MadMadamMalfoy) and the headmaster who was doing his best demonstrating how waltzing worked. Granted, Ilya did not know how to do it, but he watched lots of people do in some of the parties his mother had to take him to, so really, how hard could it be? He did not need his full attention on the headmaster, some of it could be on Tina. He was definitely going to ask her to the dance. She was waaaaay out of his league, he was not going to be delusional and expect her to say yes, but maybe just one dance?
...
... mkay, yeah, no. She was already with someone else. Someone tall and stuff.
Ilya's hair changed from blond to green - not flashy, cool shade of green but ugly, snot-like green. It clashed with his colorful blazer in such a manner that probably made him stand out like a sore eye. Ilya was not aware of this, he just kept giving this ~tall guy~ (Felixir) an unimpressed look. He probably didn't even know how to balance on the balls of his feet. Ilya was going to stand here and watch, watch him step on her feet until they're aching and they can't dance anymore.

Carsyn was here the whole time. Even though she already knew some basic dance. Well, not waltzing, but she was only fourteen and she wasn't sure there were many fourteen year olds who cared about WALTZING. Wasn't that for grownups? Also, the ball dresses for them to wear were kinda hideous and made the Gryffindor wishing for her own wardrobe. Like why had the headmaster neglected to them appropriate attire to wear for a LESSON???? No offense. Okay, offense entirely meant.
Filling out the form she dropped one in (along with one for Orion Thornhill cause she knew he'd be along shortly), and tugged awkwardly at the sleeves. Partner. She trusted Carys to not step on her toes. They were of similar heights too. Or where was Lucas or Józef?? There was a first year boy without a partner, but no offense, even if it was just for a lesson, she didn't particularly want to dance with a first year. Even if he was the best dancer in his year (she had no idea about).
Fretting, she just busied her attention on Sissay and Trent, watching their movements. The hips. The feet. How memorizing. Wow.
