DADA Lesson 1 - Hold It Right There The first Defense lesson of the term takes place in classroom A1. If you've hit the music hall, you've gone too far. Today, the classroom looks well put together--as most everything at Beauxbatons seems to be. Tidy walls, organized work sections, a neat pile of books on the Headmaster's desk. The points of interest today are the box shaped objects placed on each set of desks. The desks themselves are pushed together, housing 4 seats per group and each desk has its own box, covered by a magnificent length of light blue satin cloth...very obviously borrowed. On the board, there is a sign asking you not to touch the boxes or the satin sheets. Kindly obey said instructions and we can begin the lesson amicably. The wide windows to the left of the classroom allow the warm mid morning sun into the room. If you haven't already somehow managed to wake up in all this time, the bright light from the outside world should do the trick. Headmaster Trent stands by his own desk, getting in some last minute reading and prep. Occasionally, he makes a scribble or two in the book he holds but he's present enough to return greetings and keep an eye out to ensure that one rule on the board is adhered to. OOC: Welcome to the first DADA lesson of the term!! Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24-28 hours ^_^ Class progression: First Question Mini Activity Second Question |
Ilya was SO excited for their first class in How To Be A Hero class! He knew this was not its real name but he still preferred it to be called that. This was where most Aurors became, well, Aurors. Only ONCE did it go wrong and someone became a supervillain instead. Majorly, it was a class for heroes. He loved it. He made his way through the fancy castle to the classroom, his bag slumped sideways on his shoulder, his hair was normally blonde today but his eyes kept changing from blue to silver. He gave up hope on having them stable. Girls seem to like that he can change their colours anyway. "Morning!" Ilya beamed at the headmaster without stopping but conveniently walking closely to his desk (trying to see what the man was reading perhaps), and onwards towards one of the set desks with the interesting boxes. What were they? Ilya placed his bag on the floor by his chair and leaned forward on his elbows to take a closer look at the box. WithOUT touching. yeh, yeh. |
Fiona entered the classroom after nearly getting lost but she wasn't late, thankfully. "Morning, Professor!" she greeted the Hogwarts Headmaster/DADA teacher as she sat down at the desk next to where a Ravenclaw first-year (Ilya) was sitting. She gave the box a quick glance with an eyebrow raised but didn't touch it. |
Freyr slowly entered the classroom in which there were only Headmaster Trent and a boy whose name Freyr didn't quite remember. He has greeted Headmaster and the boy with a simple but confident "Good morning". Then he quietly sat down at the desk group where the boy (Magical Soul) sat. Freyr pulled up his copy of The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble. Quote:
After he threw a careful glance at the box next to the desk group, Freyr said "Hi, I am Freyr" to the boy and extended his hand. |
Oooooooh, today was their first class with Mr. Headmaster Professor Man! Bernadette was HERE and READY TO LEARN. And she was going to show her excitement for LEARNING! She skipped into class early somehow (apparently this magical castle wasn't THAT big), and bounced right up to the Head Professor's desk. "Good morning!" she chirped, plopping a big fat juicy red apple on top of his stack of books. Surely wizards had this tradition too, no? She'd nicked the apple from the LOVELY, HEALTHY breakfast they were still being served and thought the Headmaster might need it for their first day. Apples had caffeine, after all, and most adults appreciated a caffeine boost when working with Bernadette. Bernie continued smiling and skipping as she made her way to the desk BEHIND Ilya, who received a bright, "HELLO," whispered loudly at him. Now she had a box all to herself.... What's in the box? She was VERY tempted to open this present. |
Abra wasn't sure how she felt about Defence Against the Dark Arts. Did she want to learn how to duel? Honestly, she wasn't even at all sure if she wanted to use her wand once she was through with this magical education. She didn't need magic to go back home and take over the farm at home. Even her auntie Lou at the Leaky Cauldron didn't really use magic much. But she, and her grandparents, had all refused to allow her to stay at home and be muggle schooled. So, here she was. In France. About to learn Defence Against the Dark Arts. She took in the sights of the classroom, heading in. "Hello Prof-uh... H-Headmaster Trent." She wasn't entirely sure what she should call him. He was the Headmaster of Hogwarts, but he was also the Professor of DADA. "What do you like being called?" she asked in a rather quiet voice. |
Had Rylee gotten herself lost trying to find A1? Oh, absolutely. Not that she minded in the least. She had made to give herself waaaaaaay more time than was necessary to find the correct room for this morning lesson. With her bag slung over her shoulder as per usual for her, she entered the room with a bright cheery smile first taking notice to all the first years and than the Professor. Everyone was given a light nod and smile in greeting. "Good morning, Headmaster Trent." Her voice was loud enough to be heard but not enough so to be distracting as he had seen he was writing something down when she entered the room. Selecting a seat at a group of tables near the center of the room she removed the materials needed for the lesson, laying each one down nicely on the desk. Placing her bag beneath her chair she than sat down, her eyes falling upon the light blue satin covered box. |
“Good morning, Headmaster,” Claudine said quietly. She was quite ready for the lesson. The ones that were held in the morning were quite wonderful in terms of the energy she possessed for them; even if she did not portray this energy outwardly. Quite a few students had already gathered and taken up seats together. Claudine all but groaned when she saw that she would most likely be sitting with three others. She opted for an empty group of furniture towards the back of the class in hopes of being left mostly alone. But just what were these objects being covered? She did not know (of course not) but after she sat, Claudine pulled put her sketch pad. To pass the time, she would sketch the mysterious thing on her desk. |
Naya was kind of excited for her first Defense Against the Dark Arts Class. Actually, “kind of” might have been a bit of an understatement. The fact that the class was being taught by the Headmaster was interesting and she couldn’t wait to see what they would learn today. Naya entered the classroom and noted that there were a lot of little people and one older girl there. Okaaay. “Good Morning Headmaster”, she said as she searched for just the right seat. Apparently they would be sitting in groups of four. Naya chose a desk next to three unoccupied desks. Surely the seats would be filled soon. Seeing the items on the desk made her wonder even more what they would be up to. Time would tell. |
Although he was on time, he looked a bit flustered as he entered the room. Had he been lost while finding the classroom? No. ...yes -_- But feeling nervous was something he was used to. Especially during DADA lessons. The only difference was that after six years he was getting good at hiding it. The classroom looked ...perfect... as he entered the room. Everything at Beauxbaton looked perfect really. And he liked it. "Good morning, Headmaster Trent" he greeted and curiously looked down at the book he was reading and taking notes in. When he couldn't see what was written, he turned away to find a seat when he spotted Rylee. "Hey Rosie, did you get permission to bring your kneazle yet?" he asked as he sat down at an empty desk in the group. |
Why yes of course Siobhán had hit the music hall first. Beauxbâtons WAS very confusing though. She'd only just got the hang of making her way through Hogwarts this past year - mostly. And now she had to get used to yet another castle. Not that she minded per se. This was all very exciting. She wondered how long they'd be staying here. Would they be allowed to return to Hogwarts after the school year? Or maybe Christmas? Or they all stay here? Forever??? All those questions roaming around in her head, it was no wonder really that she'd missed the entrance to the DADA classroom the first time. After turning around at the end of the corridor, however, she quickly noticed the students filing into the room and joined them. "Good morning, Headmaster!" She said cheerfully. Yes, good morning. Siobhán O'Shea was now also here. She'd arrived. Quote:
So, seeing as she was, so far, friendless in this classroom, Siobhán simply dropped into the nearest available seat. By a girl who was also wearing Gryffindor robes. "Hii, who are you?" She asked with a grin, her gaze already drifting away to the items on the table. Why were they hidden from view? Were they dangerous? What if she poked the cloth with her wand? |
And finally she manages to find the classroom for the Defense Against the Dark Arts. Yes, she has trouble in remembering where everything is and the classrooms for each of her class is one of it. She's just happy that she's not late for this class. Making her way inside the rather bright classroom she notices the rule written on the board which is not to touch. WHAAAT'S IN DAAAAA BOX?! "Hello, professor" she greeted with a smile before sitting down. |
Blake waltzed in. He had made here without getting lost (okay he got lost once .... twice, but he didn't plan on telling anyone that). Making a nod toward the professor ... and then a double take ... wait .... was that also the headmaster???? Man Blake had so many things to learn about Hogwarts .. or rather Beauxbatons this year. Taking a seat in an empty desk he didn't he bother to check if others were sitting here, he had claimed it. He wasn't suppose to touch the boxes in front of him ..... but he was rather curious, making mental guesses as to what could possibly be in there. |
The fact that the classroom Kaiser needed to be in next was called 'A1' kind of implied that it would be easy to find, first room of the first batch and all - it was classrooms like F23 you had to worry about, and Kaiser hoped there wasn't such a room. In the end, it wasn't difficult to find, but he'd still needed to wander around for a bit to work out the vague direction he had needed to go to find it. It didn't help that he was still operating on no sleep at all (as was probably clear from the dark circles under his eyes), Herbology not really being the best place to have a quick nap even if he had been able to, so Kaiser wasn't really functioning on all cylinders. But here he was. Kaiser wondered if it was possible that Headmaster Trent knew yet about his OWL grade in this subject. He had the mist situation to deal with, after all, as well as the move to Beauxbatons, and there was the fact that Kaiser hadn't taken his exams until late in the summer and so had only received his results two days prior. Also, maybe Trent wouldn't care about his grades; Kaiser wouldn't have held it against him at all. But an E. Exceeds Expectations. Kaiser had been absolutely floored to see he had managed the second highest possible grade in not just Defence Against the Dark Arts, but Potions as well, seeing as the most he ever usually managed were Acceptables. Yes, he had failed five of his other exams, but that wasn't the point. He would never admit it, but part of Kaiser really yearned for some sort of approval, starved of it as he was in the absence of any, you know, parents, and in this situation he kind of wanted it to come from Trent himself. But Kaiser wasn't allowing himself to expect it; Trent was a busy man, hundreds of students, a school to run, disaster at every turn, etcetera, etcetera. Kaiser also didn't want to be obvious about the whole thing either, didn't want anyone to even suspect that he craved that acknowledgement, especially as it really was extremely un-Kaiser-like. So, when he entered the classroom, he simply greeted Trent with a (very tired sounding), "Morning," and looked for somewhere to sit. Hmm. Groups. Well, the large majority of students present were a lot younger than he was, though Rylee and Dorian were there already. They were probably hoping for friends to sit with them though, and Kaiser wouldn't deny that he'd have liked to sit with people he was slightly more familiar with too. Nodding at the two in greeting nevertheless, Kaiser went ahead and claimed one of the rapidly declining number of free tables while he still could. Not having any desire to go poking around mysterious objects, especially in this lesson, Kaiser let the box and the sheet well enough alone. |
Their second class for the day was DADA and Cole was excited and geared up to learn something new and fun. Considering that he had spent the previous night in the infirmary he had had zero time to explore the castle and learn where all the classes we’re located. After taking a Cole opted eventually to sit down at an empty desk in a so far unoccupied group of four near the front. He wanted to put up a sign that said 'Boys come join me' but thought the headmaster might object strongly to that. Instead he took out his DADA book and flipped it open and started to read about a dark creature to pass the time until class started. He wondered about the content of the boxes and the sheets purposes obviously, who wouldn't, but he kept his fingers to himself. |
sitting with jillian :3 If it wasn't for the other students she was following, Faye might not have been able to find this classroom at all. It may have looked a little creepy that she was following them back and forth....but they were all going to the same location, so hopefully that would be alright if she was taking their direction? She made an unspoken promise to not follow anyone after the lesson so they would not be upset with her. The badger smiled immediately however when she made her way into the classroom for her FIRST lesson in Defense Against the Dark Arts! Her eyes settled on the Headmaster as he waited for everyone's arrival, with a note not to touch the items on their desk. Faye's smile never faltering as she bowed her head politely towards the Headmaster before she spoke, "Good morning Headmaster.." She had no idea he would be teaching these classes! She took a quick scan around the room looking as the desks were grouped together in fours. Seeing some of them quickly filling up, she made a beeline for the first available sit she could find which happened to be with a really pretty older Slyhtherin girl (Jillian). "Hi there, I'm Faye...Would it alright if I sit with you?" Soon setting her things down on the desk across from her before getting comfortable. Faye's eyes settled on the box in front of her, quizzically staring at it, NOT touching it at all as instructed. Of course curious to know what was inside, but feeling no temptation to touch it because surely they'd be touching it eventually. It was all about patience until the lesson began. |
bothering Claudine ^.^ Gemma had been bursting with energy for this lesson so she had woken up way too early in order to prepare herself. She had hoped to get here early but getting a little lost had delayed her. 'Merlin, this school is a maze.' Hopefully Hogwarts was more self-explanatory. Morning Headmaster," Gemma smiled at Headmaster Trent as she quickly scooped out a place to sit. Not liking drawing attention to herself, sitting near the back was her best option. Gemma spotted Faye sitting at a table with another Slytherin student. As she passed she gave the Hufflepuff a smile and mouthed hello. She made her way towards a girl sketching near the back. "Mind if I join you? Without really waiting for a reply she sat down, pulling out her book and something to write with. "I'm Gemma Black, by the way." She politely introduced herself to her fellow housemate. She didn't really want to bother her so she flipped to a random page in the book and idly read. |
Hitting the music hall she sighed to herself, oh crap she went too far didn't she? To say that she wasn't lost was an understatement, she was majorly lost and hoped she wasn't late for DADA. 'Okay... just turn back around and pay more attention Stella.' Turning back around she walked paying close attention until she found it, classroom A1. Whew... she wasn't late and made it here on time, what a relief! Walking into the classroom the now 4th year lioness made her way into the classroom. She was excited and couldn't wait until she found out what they were learning about. "Good Morning Headmaster Trent, hope you're well. " She said it loud enough for him to hear her but not to scare him from what he was doing if she did. Her bag slung over her shoulder she smiled warmly at the firsties before seeing Rylee. "Hiya Rylee." she said sitting down beside her. Getting her supplies and everything she needed for class, her eyes caught a glimp of Cole smiled and gave him a friendly wave. Her eyes looking around she noticed the satin sheet that covered a box. Hm... interesting, very interesting indeed. |
Classroom A1. That wasn't hard to find, right? Wrong. Lucas wasn't sure where he'd taken a wrong turn - and was sure he was just following the general crowd - but he, somehow, ended up closer to the Music Hall? How????? There were a few seconds where he stood and stared at the hall in confusion before deciding that even Trent's weirdest classes wouldn't take place HERE. And he would know, the man had held lessons in padded rooms with creepy creatures that stalked your nightmares. It wasn't until he decided to turn and walk further along the corridor that he noticed people - people in Hogwarts robes, that is - walking into a different classroom and decided to follow them. It wasn't until he saw Trent himself at the front of the room that he let out a sigh of relief. "Hey, Headmaster!" Smile. He almost wanted to ask about the book but this didn't seem like a good time. Instead, he turned and made his way towards an empty, uh, table. Not just a seat, a table with four seats. Uh????? Did this mean group work? Please, no. No no no. Oh no. He could be his own group, right? A group of four but of one? It meant extra work on his part but to him, that didn't sound like a bad idea at all. Taking a seat towards the middle of his empty table, he frowned at the box in front of him and then looked up. Don't touch? ........ Well. The urge was there. It was all mysterious and he was itching to take a look at what was underneath the cloth and inside the box but....... Trent. Again, lessons with the man taught him that he probably should do what he said. So, he crossed his arms across his chest. Not touching. Not even looking. |
Honestly? The French kids were the most unhelpful ever. At least the ones Anna had encountered. She herself had been trying Maybe she hadn't had any luck. You know, Anna was still going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Just in case. Hopefully the athletes would be nicer. Where were they again? "Morning." She greeted the Headmaster as she entered the room. The right room, mind you. Thanks, grumpy French student. She could blame that one student for her own mood, but that would be forcing it. It wasn't like she had been particularly cheery prior to their encounter anyway. Whatever. |
Lucas (and Kitasaurus), we pick you! Cecelia was USED to sharing, what with having a little brother and all, but she couldn't help but wonder how their headmaster felt about having to share a WHOLE SCHOOL that wasn't even HIS. It was sort of weird, wasn't it? Nice and all, but weeeeird. Like, sometimes you just WANTED your very own space how YOU liked it and maybe he couldn't HAVE that here and it made the small blonde feel kinda bummed out for him, really. POOR GUY. "Morning Headmaster," The first year said cheerfully as she passed the busy looking man. "Just wanted to let you know I'm on my BEST behavior 'cause I know how I act is a 'flection of you and stuff." Nice, right? She grinned and then looked around, wondering where to sit. She didn't mind the group thing at ALL, 'cause she LOVED to be around people, but who to pi-- OH! There was a BOY! She knew that boy! He was in her HOUSE and everything! He'd be in HER group, he would. "Hiii. Wonder what's in there." She took a seat and sat on her hands, being very careful NOT to touch the mysterious box. "Bet it's something COOL." |
hey kaiser Alessandro didn't have a hard time finding A1 by the time class rolled around. However, he had been utterly stumped earlier that morning when he went scouting for the room before his morning run. Beauxbatons was not intuitive, or at least the rooms they continued to be relegated to were not. He wistfully thought of Durmstrang. With a respectful nod at Trent, Alessandro said, "Good morning, Headmaster." The sixth year did not linger. The headmaster looked preoccupied with his reading. The Hufflepuff looked around the room, considering where to sit, when he spotted Kaiser. He didn't exactly look welcoming, which is precisely why Alessandro took a silent seat beside him. And he didn't bother saying 'hello'. Kaiser could see he had joined him. Silence was perfectly fine. |
Claudine and Gemma Phoebe had definitely learned her lesson, but she didn't enter the classroom with any less exuberance than she had in Herbology class. She grinned broadly at the Headmaster, gave her well practiced curtsy (someone would be impressed eventually), and looked for familiar faces in the crowd. "Good day to you, Headmaster. I like your aura of mystery," she wiggled her fingers at him as she selected one of the seats by Claudine-from-the-candy-party and another girl she didn't recognize (Gemma). "Hullo, Cushion-friend. Nice to see you again." |
Ali / Claudine ^_^ SPOILER!!: Ali & Claudine By the time she’d left Herbology and managed to find her way back inside, weaved through the MASS of students and found the classroom - which had been a struggle because none of the French students seemed to want to help her get pointed in the right direction. One male student had even told her that he wouldn’t help her in heavily accented English before smirking and walking off in the other direction. She really wanted to know that brunet’s name so that she could jinx his shoes. Mean. Huffing slightly from the emotions she was trying to suppress, she looked around the room that was rapidly filling up and made a slight face Giving Lucas and Kaiser a small head nod, she decided to emulate that helpful older student vibe and sit next to one of the newly sorted Slytherin girls. Maybe she could repay one of the many favours the current Seventh Years and already Graduated students had shown her by helping this girl in class if she needed it. Standing at one of the chairs, she gave the girl [FearlessLeader19] who was sketching a smile. “Hey.” Holly started, before pulling out her chair and taking a seat as she got organised for the class. “I’m Holly.” There, she was being nice already. Hopefully, they would get started soon and she could find out what was under that satin because she was curious. Very curious about what he was hiding from them. |
Alex entered the DADA classroom with a mix of fear and excitement. His uncle Excelsior had told him what an exiting class this was and how valuable the information he was going to learn would be to him in the future. Why, it might even save his life for all he knew. Looking about, he quickly observed that the other students appeared to be just as excited as he was, which he took a a really good sign. He found a seat towards the middle, not too far up front nor too far back. Placement was everything or so he had managed to convince himself, in any case. |
