| | Seeker Tryouts The late afternoon greets you with the fluttering of birds and a warm sun overhead. It is rather serene in a way, making it an excellent day for flying and showing off ones skillset for a chance to get on the House Quidditch team. As the schedule dictates, the fourth tryout session, beginning at 3 o'clock, is for all of those who are interested in putting in their all for a chance to snag a position as a Seeker. If you are considerably light and speedy on a broom and have a sharp eye that can easily spot a Golden Snitch, then this is the tryout for you.
At the centre of the pitch await the figures of the Flying instructor as well as the four House captains and what appears to be several mechanical dummies. The adult present can be heard speaking to the captains, though his words are inaudible as you're not yet close enough to hear the conversation taking place. All that can be assumed is that some last-minute guidance and instruction is being offered to them, considering they each nod their heads and take a few notes on the clipboards they are holding. As for the dummies that are present, well, there isn't a whole lot to make of them as they are very still at the moment and their purpose has yet to be revealed.
Hearing approaching footsteps and voices, MacKenzie quickly glances down at his watch, taking note of the time, and then turns to face the pitch entrance. "Gather 'round, gather 'round. We'll be gettin' started here shortly," he says as you approach.

Cordelia was confident enough in her quidditch skills that she hadn’t been too worried that the bludger would hit her, but you always had to be careful. As the bludger continued on its way down the pitch, Cordelia kept an eye on it to make sure it wasn’t about to loop back around and come after her again. It seemed to be headed over to the other beater dummy. What Cordelia noticed over there by the dummy, however, was of much more interest to her than what the beater dummies were doing. As soon as she caught sight of the glinting gold ball, Cordelia pushed forward to full speed and raced to get there before anyone else could get the snitch. All the while she was still keeping an eye out for what that dummy was doing and where the bludger was. As she got closer to the dummy, Cordelia made agile movements around it. She stretched out her arm as far as she could with her hand open, and made a grab for the snitch. Quote:

This was exhausting and unlike normal matches, she didn't have beaters helping her. She wasn't fully sure if the point was to exhaust them to find their weakness, but she wasn't going to give up. She was the seeker and she was going to prove it.
Doing another quick turn left, then right, then upward she zoomed as fast as possible away from the bludger, but kept her eye on the thing near the dummies head. Chloe knew this wasn't going to be easy, but she also knew she had to put on her best moves and things she was taught in her lessons with Uncle Alec.
With determination, she took a turn left and head straight for the dummy to play a game of chicken. Her eyes set on the snitch she kept moving quickly towards him as fast as she could. At the last second, she pulled her broom up hoping that was enough time she needed to reach the snitch, not hit the dummy (or hit it with the back of her broom), and have the bludger plow into the dummy and not her.
When that second arrived she pulled up on her broom with one hand to start upwards over the dummy, she leaned sideways with her other hand outstretched and trying to grab the snitch, and hoped for the best that the bludger would hit the dummy and not her. Quote:

But as quickly as they had crashed, the dummies had recovered and were racing toward her again. Goodness, these things didn't give up! But at least she wasn't battling a bludger - yet. She tightened her grip on her broom and dipped downward, speeding toward the opposite end of the pitch. Her eyes narrowed as she caught a glint of gold. Two other girls seemed to notice it at the same time, and before long, all three of them were racing toward it - dummies still in tow. Avalon knew she was the underdog in this situation, being only a first year. But she was determined to show her classmates that she was at least capable. She just had to outfly those dummies and make that grab. The snitch was unpredictable, though. It had a mind of its own. As soon as the snitch was in grabbing distance, Avalon outstretched her arm, flexing her fingers in preparation. A Bludger and a number of dummies were on the move and gaining speed as the three Seeker hopefuls flew right after the Golden Snitch. For those watching, whether in the stands or elsewhere on the pitch, it was most certainly an entertaining sight to behold. The dummies that had previously bumped into each other had caught up to Avalon, one of which speed up and knocked itself right into her right as she held out her hand... The dummy that Chloe was flying toward was no chicken at all, but it seen collided with a Bludger the moment she pulled up on her broom... Cordelia avoided being a part of the collision by moving around it just in time... But it was Chloe that had her hands grasped around the fluttering ball in the end.
After being caught, the Snitch was released. Not wanting to be captured again, it zoomed off very quickly to the opposite end of the pitch... OOC: The Snitch grab was determined by a number generator. 1 - griffin, 2 - Bazinga, 3 - Fireheart; the number generated was 2. Quote:

Then, suddenly, the red ball was thrown in their direction, which caused one of them to chase after it and the remaining dummy to follow suit.
That left Thadius on his own... allowing him to hear, without question, the fluttering of wings as the golden ball zipped by on its way to the opposite end of the pitch...

| curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog Um, WHAT was up with this dummy? Why was it so obsessed with her? Frowning at it as she followed her lower down the pitch, Nettie instead kicked in with the speed and flew off toward the opposite end of the pitch. At this point, she was just hoping to lose the dummy...
She looked up and saw a glimmer of the snitch just in time to see three people all fly at it at once. Nettie would have joined in but...let's be honest. FOUR people all going for it at once would have easily caused a collision. She preferred to stay ON her broom and NOT be concussed, thank you very much.
As she zoomed by, trying to lose the dummy, she resumed her search. As she passed Tad, she realized that there was something glittering near him, and then...it took off, conveniently in the same direction Nettie was heading to try and get rid of her dummy. What luck!
She zoomed after it, arm outstretched as she gained on it. Hopefully as she sped up to get away from the dummy, it would get her closer and closer and she'd be rewarded with a cool metal snitch in her palm.

That left Thadius on his own... allowing him to hear, without question, the fluttering of wings as the golden ball zipped by on its way to the opposite end of the pitch... That takes care of that, Tad deduced. Watching as the dummies flew off with the Quaffle. He was glad his arm was put to use already, though he would've preferred using it for.... His thoughts went away as he saw something glittery flash by his eyes. What? He squinted before hearing the familiar fluttering.
That was it. The snitch. It was flying towards the end of the pitch and Tad wasted no time in zooming off after it. As soon as he flew in that direction he could hear another one fly behind him. Was it another dummy? He couldn't chance a glance because even during a blink the snitch could change direction and he wanted to be focused. As he approach the snitch his arm outreached. He briefly thought about how cool he would be to catch the snitch, but that went away. Thoughts of being cool didn't help, he focused on the wings, his other hand moved to hold the handle of his broom ready to make a quick steer if it zoomed off elsewhere. His hand kept outstretched though. It had to be his snitch. It had to be, he hoped while focusing as the distance grew smaller. |

Avalon's hand was outstretched, perfectly poised to catch the snitch, when a hard blow from her right caused her to tumble out of reach. She flipped over once in the air, falling downward, before she was able to tighten her grip and regain her balance. Pushing her hair out of her face and staring back upward at where she had been, she saw that the other girl had caught the snitch. As soon as she had caught it, though, it had left her hands. This snitch wasn't wasting any time.
She stabilized her broom and squinted, hoping to see where the snitch flew off to. But she saw nothing. Suddenly, she noticed two other players racing toward the opposite end of the pitch, both of them with their arms outstretched. They must have spotted it! Avalon was hesitant about getting caught in another tumble, though. But this was Quidditch. She had to go after it.
Perhaps she could fly above the other two players and sneak in from above? No, that could be too dangerous. If one of them made a sudden jerk upward, there would undoubtedly be a collision. Avalon didn't want to be the cause of any broken bones at tryouts. But coming in from the side - that was definitely an option. That way, both of the players would be able to see her before any accidents.
Avalon took a deep breath before flying off in the direction of the snitch again. She kept a healthy distance away from the other two - flying parallel to the them - as she watched the snitch's movements carefully. It wasn't going anywhere, though. She had to get closer to it. She maneuvered herself to be in line with the other two seekers and stretched out her hand in pursuit of that little gold ball, stabilizing herself by leaning forward on her broom. She kept a close ear out for the approach of any potential dummies - the last thing she wanted was to be knocked out of the air again.

It had worked and she had caught it!
OMG, she could dance around on her broom, but she didn't, she stayed cool and just gave a small cheer before letting the snitch go again. She wished so much her Uncle Alec could have seen her at that moment, he would have been so proud. Glancing around she noticed that one of the first years went into a fall and Chloe leaned her broom downward to race to help her if she needed. Yes, it was tryouts but that was no reason not to take care of each other. "You Okay?"
Once giving the first year a look over Chloe glanced at the Gryffindor to make sure she hadn't been injured either, but she looked good too.
Now it was time to focus again, so Chloe moved higher to get a better look at the pitch. She was ready to catch the snitch again, curiosity was getting the best of her so she glanced around to find Nettie and Tad, how were they doing?
They seemed to be doing well too, which meant that Chloe felt she needed to do better. Green eyes scanning the pitch she watched the dummies and looked for a snitch at the same time.

Three Seekers and one Golden Snitch -- who was going to be the victor?
Having alluded the dummy that had been chasing after her for far too long, Trinetta had nothing to focus on besides capturing that Snitch... Thadius, however, was leading the chase... moments after, Avalon had joined the ranks... soon the three were all in pace with each other, flying as if they were on a synchronized broom team... until a rogue Bludger made its sudden appearance and started flying straight for them, clearly initiating a game of chicken... the Snitch darted to the side to avoid the oncoming black ball... the Snitch's movement gave Trinetta the advantage of grabbing hold of it... now the question was whether or not that Bludger would be avoided by all three Seekers...
After being caught, the Snitch was released and it once again darted off. This time, however, it wasn't clear where the golden ball had went. The oncoming Bludger and the sun shining just at the right angle made it seem like it had disappeared... OOC: The Snitch grab was determined by a number generator. 1 - Lissy Longbottom, 2 - Charely Potter, 3 - Fireheart; the number generated was 1. Quote:

As she went back to focusing on looking for the snitch and keeping her eyes on the bludgers that were going around, Chloe started getting more and more confident as she flew around. Where was that snitch, she wanted to get it again, she was going to fully prove she should be there and she wasn't going to give up until she was seeker again this year. Her life revolved around quidditch and she wasn't going to let anything get in her way.
Moving around the pitch she was starting to watch the others as well as look for the snitch. All her claw friends looked good on brooms, she wasn't feeling bent out of shape about them competing against her, but pride in all their hard work. As she looked around the pitch she noticed something out of the corner her eye and turned just in time to see the dummies with the quaffle.
Pushing her broom down she hurried to get out of their way but didn't get away soon enough as one hit the back of her broom. Going into a spin she started to descend towards the ground. Pulling her broom up she tried to get control back and finally, it leveled and she shot across the pitch to get her balance and continue looking for the snitch.

Avalon ducked her head just in time as a bludger soared toward her broom. She heard it whiz past her ear, rustling her hair and causing her to jolt her broom to the right. She sped downward to get away from it, but looked back up to see that another player had grabbed the snitch. Darn it. Why couldn't she have avoided that bludget? She desperately wanted to prove to herself that she was capable of playing more than one Quidditch position, but it was seeming more and more obvious that her strengths lied with the chaser position. Well, at least she had tried. She attempted to reassure herself: she wasn't an awful seeker...just not the best on the pitch at the time. Avalon steered her broom back toward the sky, continuing to look for another glint of gold.

It was a shame that those dummies didn't have real eyes. Perhaps one of them would have then moved out of the way... the Quaffle was passed to its comrade, which zoomed off down the pitch... but the dummy that remained had just nicked the back of Chloe's broom and had to do a bit of manoeuvring to not fly directly down to the ground and catch up to the other dummy.
As Chloe shot down the pitch, still the Snitch was nowhere to be found. Quote:

Suddenly a glint of gold appeared, though it just so happened that the Snitch was fluttering down near the ground, right beside the Flying instructor's shoulder...

| Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch Colin had been watching everything with great interest. Everything going on at once made it almost seem as if a real match were happening right before him and the Captains. Granted the Seekers likely wouldn't have to deal with other non-Seekers chasing after them or Bludgers targeting them so frequently, the tryout was certainly a test of their speed and agility. Freya in particular had a lot of work cut out for her, considering there were more than enough Ravenclaws tryout out for the position.
While checking his watch and noting it was time for the session to come to an end, the Flying instructor heard an annoying fluttering not far from him. For a moment he thought that it was an annoying fly, but a gaze out of his peripheral proved that notion to be wrong. There was no mistaking the Golden Snitch. Slowly taking out his wand, he cast an Impediment Jinx, grabbed the ball, and pocketed it. Moments after, a hand was reaching for his whistle. TWEET!
As the sound of the whistle echoed through the air, the dummies flying around came to a stop and returned to their original positions on the ground, returning back to their idle state. Colin pointed his wand in their general direction and gave it a flick, causing them all to deconstruct and bundle together.
"Quite impressive flying out there, ev'ryone. That'll be the end of this tryout session," he called out to all of the Seeker hopefuls that he had been watching the past hour. "Rosters will be put up on yer common room noticeboard by yer Captain sometime next week. Go hit the showers and relax a bit before it's time fer supper." OOC: Thank you all for participating in the Seeker tryouts! I hope you all had fun. Feel free to post your character leaving the pitch at this time.
Quidditch rosters will be posted sometime on Sunday, March 19th, so keep your eyes on the lookout. ^___^

Chloe had been flying around still looking for the snitch when she looked down just in time to see the professor grabbing it and blowing his whistle. Tryouts had come to an end already? Chloe was having fun and hoping to catch some more snitched, but she went with the others to land near their captain and the professor.
Her smile wasn't going to be taken off her face, because she felt she did good and glancing at the stands she knew Gunnar was watching, sibling support was the best. Keeping a hold of her broom she gave the rest of her teammates a wave before turning to the Professor, "Thanks for a great tryout sir."
Now, she was hungry and it was time to head to the castle for a shower and food.
