Have you got a runeset of your own? Perhaps you need to make one? stavesets, runic wands, or bindrune jewellery? Well you've come to the right place for runic crafts and creation. Across from the unused office is the workshop and library that Professor Beryl has set up for her more dedicated students. To one side of the room there are workbenches and tables for cutting, carving, staining, and consecration work, and to the other there are bookshelves filled with all sorts of references on everything runes. There are also comfy overstuffed chairs so you can curl up with a book and do a bit of runic study or transcription.
There is not, however, any wood or rune making materials currently provided. Nor are there obvious instructions on how exactly to get started (though the books provided certainly provide plenty of information that you could look into, if you are so inclined).
You'll need to speak with Professor Beryl if you'd like to make your own runes (or any other runic crafts) and she will guide you through the process.

OOC: Below are some of the 'books' that you can have your character refer to. Some are textbooks created by former Runes professors on SS, and some are websites which have various useful or interesting material. If you have a suggestion for this list please let me know. Remember that nothing should be copied and passed off as your character's work - plagiarism is not cool!
OOC: Relevant instructions will be added to each section as students request permission to work on any of the following. If your character is interested they should speak to Professor Beryl first!
Maxie was waiting for the professor. he calmed by now, to the point where he was much more fearful than angry.
What was going to happen? would Professor Carmine be kind or cruel? would she throw him in detention? take away his quidditch rights? make him burn his sneakers? fight him to the death? bury him in legal fees? take him to the headmaster? any and all of those scenarios seemed plausible and terrifying in their own way. Maxie fidgeted, wriggling by an uncaring work bench.
This wait was killing him.

"Well now, Mr Anderson-Belfort." Carmine joined the boy in the room and considered him closely. "You had time enough to return from fetching the correct shoes, care to tell me why you missed the entirety of my lesson?" She sat down on one of the comfy overstuffed chairs and beckoned for him to do the same.

He had deflated some, some being the key word, since the shoe incident but there was just... something about Professor Beryl that had Maxie back in full sulk all over again. He crossed his arms, his posture defensive. "I-I w-was taking m-m-my time." Now, this wasn't lie but it wasn't very honest either. Maxie had, in fact taken his time but the why behind it was much more layered than simple laziness. Not that he'd be saying any of that to the Runes Professor. "T-The dungeons are f-f-far." He further explained, unable to stop himself from pointing out this fact.

"Are they just." 'far'? Far enough, to be sure. But he had had plenty of time. "Young man, if I can make that distance and back then you surely can. There is no good excuse for lollygagging. Or for sulking." Yes she could recognize that just as well, one of her own sons was a master of the pointed sulk, it had very little effect on her, though she'd not put up with it long if it became disrespectful in the context of their discussion.
"If you are worried about what your peers think, I imagine they'll have forgotten entirely by tomorrow. Things such as this are only as heavy as you choose to make them for yourself, you realize, and I expect you'll not make the same mistake twice, particularly now that you'll have to catch up on the work you missed in the lesson." She was not going to punish him beyond that unless he chose to be rude and disrespectful beyond the degree he already had been.
"You had enough time, and you chose not to hurry back. So please, if you will, explain yourself while I'm willing to hear you out. And be honest." She said sternly, but not cruelly.
