If you are eager to see, be seen, and get to school first, then the front passenger cars of the train are for you. Just like the other cars, a long corridor provides access to the many compartments, each labelled with a letter, available for you and your friends to hunker down in until the train has come to a complete stop. Cushioned seats and large windows, allowing perfect views of the British scenery on your journey, await.
Well, what are you waiting for? Slide open a compartment door and make yourself at home. Place any of your belongings not in the luggage car on the racks above you. Chat with your friends about what you did this summer, enjoy munching on the snacks you bought from the trolley lady, get ahead of the game by reading your textbooks, or take a long nap as the train travels over numerous hills and mountainsides. Whatever you do, exhibit your best behaviour -- the prefects will be regularly patrolling the corridors and poking their heads inside your compartment to make sure you are doing so.
It was a strange feeling coming back to Hogwarts with a feeling positive for a change, especially with everything that had happened over the last four years but here he was, sitting in the front compartment. With his backpack tucked safely away in the rack above his head, Ewan’s eyes were firmly set on the other children that were outside the window, searching for familiar faces.

Sebastian was slowly making his way to his usual compartment. There were so many kids around he hoped it was still free. He had also somehow lost Kam in the hubbub, but he was sure she would make an appearance any time now.
Finally standing in front of his favorite compartment, he found it completely empty! Praise Merlin's beard! He sent a wave to Ewan in the compartment across from him before pushing the door open and plopping his backpack down on the seat. This was going to be a long trip! He couldn't wait to get to Hogwarts...but at the same time he was super nervous. He sat down by the window, and pulled out the two letters in his pocket. One written by him and one from his mother for...well that was for him and Kam to know.
This term was going to be interesting indeed.

And the lost prodigal had returned.
Okay well that was a bit dramatic, she had been lost for five minutes, but anyways! Kam didn’t have anyone to say goodbye to. No one has showed up to see her off, and she might have been hanging around to see if they would.
But alas..
She moved onto the train hoping to find either her boyfriend or one of her best friends. She was so happy to be going back to Hogwarts. Summer had been a long, boring, lonely affair and she wasn’t keen to relive it. Next summer, she was going to make sure she had plans!
She grinned as she found Bast in an empty compartment and after smiling to the boy across from them and giving him a little wave, slipped in next to her best friend.
“Basttttt.” She said as she slumped in the seat next to him. “Promise me that I’ll never have to summer again.” She put a hand over her eyes and sighed.
Also..
“Hi! How are you feeling?” She asked him as she peeled out from under her arm.

Drewett was one of the first few who didn't waste no time in getting on the Hogwarts Express. Save for a few farewells and hugs that he felt he needed to give to Mrs. Stemp before leaving, he was all set to start his fifth year. He had everything he needed in his trunk, and even set aside things and food to keep him company throughout the train ride. The summer did him well, and he was able to unwind from the shenanigans at Hogwarts. He hoped for a better term this time.
After making sure his bags were all at the luggage compartment, Drewett made his way to the front cars and looked for an empty compartment. He didn't mind sharing, but he usually liked getting a car for himself and letting others join him. Once he did, he slid the door open and placed Pietro's cage gently on the floor. His owl was half-sleeping, and he hoped he would stay that way for the duration of the ride. Drewett made himself comfortable as he waited for the train to leave.

There was a familiar face, but not out the window, no, this one was coming in behind him and not realizing he was in there. Chloe had just been on the platform and MERLIN where did all the boys to get cute for this term. Was there a summer camp that they all were required to go to? Drew, Calyx, Finlay, Ewan, and so, so many more. The girl was feeling like she was having a hot flash and didn't know how to explain it.
These were her friends, they weren't supposed to be super cute, HOLY COW, what was she going to do this term if they were always walking around to corridor distracting her? SO RUDE BOYS!
As she headed quickly into a compartment, maybe to look at all these cute boys from the window, she stopped and froze. How did Ewan get in the train before she did? BREATHE CHLOE!!

Rylee had made sure to be dropped off extra early this term. There was a couple of things she had to look into before she could do anything else. Hugs were given to her family, especially her nephew with a promise to mirror call him later after the feast.
Quickly storing her trunk and things away in the luggage compartment, Rylee made a very special point of searching for and locating her cousins. All five of them. Once everyone's things were stored away she got them all onto the train and into a compartment knowing for the most part that they would all want to stick together. Which was fine by her but before she got to comfortable she decided to go for a walk with Lamb with the absolute promise to them all that she would be back in a little bit.
So with Lamb in her arms, the now fifth year went to say a quick 'hello' to any of her friends that she could find. Giving a gentle tap on a compartment door and peering inside an instant smile tugged at her lips seeing who was inside. "Hey, Drew."

"Hey Ewan, what's up?"
Face after face passed the window of the compartment as Ewan looked through it, excitement building in his stomach, ready for the return to his magical home and his friends. Despite the obvious ache that came with leaving his family behind, he just had to come back to Hogwarts. Finishing his education was the obvious reason to come back but if he was being honest, leaving his friends was just way too hard.
Turning to the door now as the compartments started to fill up, he gave a smile and wave to Seb as he entered the opposite compartment before the door to his finally opened and a fellow fourth year entered. With a wide grin, Ewan got to his feet and greeted Chloe with a big hug, lifting her off the floor slightly before putting her back down “Hey Chloe! It’s great to see you!” Not wanting to crush her, Ewan let go and sat back down next to the window, his smile from ear to ear. "I'm good thanks! Just happy to be coming back. How are you?"

Drewett had indeed made himself as comfortable as possible, letting him stretch his legs across the seat and enjoying his alone time for the meantime. He had retrieved a book, one about astronomy and time travel theories, from his bag. He had been meaning to finish it before the summer ended but was unable to do so considering he had to do a bit of last minute packing for the term and panicking for Brian's wedding. The Ravenclaw still couldn't believe his tutor was now married. Time flies, indeed.
The fifteen year old flipped through the book, looking for his bookmark to continue reading, when his attention was brought to the compartment door after hearing a tap against the glass. Drewett smiled as he raised a hand to wave at the person on the other side of the door. "Rylee," he greeted, pulling his legs closer to himself to sit more properly. "Would you like t-to join me?" He had a lot of space in his compartment, as she could see. Save for his sleeping owl in his cage, at least.

Seventh Year.
The final chapter.
Liliane Montague was on her final train journey to Hogwarts. Whilst she knew she had the entire year ahead of her, it felt a little bittersweet. This was the last time she would be leaving Kings Cross in September. In a few short months, which she knew would go insanely fast, she would be graduated and out in the big wide world. It was a scary thought. But one that would soon be here.
But right now. She was lounging in a compartment. She wanted to enjoy every second of this journey. It was why she had found herself a seat right by the window. That was so she could look through the window, and try to remember every single bit of the scenery from London to Hogwarts.
Sigh.
She couldn't wait to get there.

Chase has survived his OWLS last term and was looking forward to escaping the library more this year. He needed to “re-learn” how to have fun. That was some advice that his parents had given him before they sent him off on his journey. Hmph... he knew to have fun. He could have fun with his Lion mates and L...Lucas... that’s right. The boy slumped further into his seat, pulling his red hoodie over the top of his head. Lucas wouldn’t be on the train with him. He... he had graduated. He couldn’t imagine what a term without Lucas would even be like. Chase had looked up to the older boy greatly and had even affectionately referred to him as his brother. Chase... He’d have to be brave enough to finally fight his own battles. He reflected on his third year at Hogwarts when Lucas has been more brave than he. Chase should have stood up to that Slytherin Sixth year all by himself. Now he would have too.
He pulled his bag towards him (which contained his uniform as well as necessary items to help him survive the train ride) and fished out a pair of earphones. Pressing play on his device, he closed his eyes and let the music drown out his thoughts.

Analiese walked to the front cars and tried to find an empty compartment. She preferred being the first one in a compartment and then letting others join her. However, it seemed there were no empty conpartments. Analiese slid the door open of a random compartment and looked inside. There was a girl who looked much older than her. "Do you mind if I sit here?", Analiese asked.

Third year, wow. Taddy couldn't believe it. He felt more confident this year after the last two years. Add in that he had a nice growth spurt during the summer.. Yep. Daisy was starting her first year and he would have someone under his shadow for once. Well, for now he wanted to catch up with his old friends so long as he could find them. He checked the compartments to find an empty one... only to find one occupied by two familiar faces.
"Hey Ewan, Chloe." He grinned at the two. "How are you guys?" He hoped things were well with both of them.

Lucia was just trying to find an empty compartment to put her things into and drop down for the trip, but so far as she wandered down the train all of them already seemed filled with people. Clearly she had spent way too much time saying goodbye to her family when other students were already boarding the train.
Poking her head through the door of the next carriage she caught sight of a group that she thought might be around her age, and figured this was anyway a good chance to meet a few people she'd be going to school with...
"Scusi, can I sit here?" she asked, her words coated with a thick Italian accent. She paused for a moment, thinking of whether she should add anything on to what she had already said. But speaking and listening in English still took more effort for her and instead she just waited, a friendly smile on her face.

Sebastian was really curious about what his mother had written in her letter. He had contemplated opening it and reading it, but it wasn't for him...it was for his biological father, and it wasn't for him to read. Though he was sure it was the story that his mother had already told him.
The temptation to rip it open quickly receded when the compartment door opened and in came his bestie. "Kaaammm!" He chuckled at that comment and put his arm around her shoulders. "You will never have to summer alone again. Promise." He said with a grin, resting his head against hers.
At that question...he wasn't sure how to respond. He looked down at his hand with the two letters. "Weird. Nervous. Freaked. But I need to put these letters away before anyone else sees them." He gently moved his arm from her shoulders and shoved the letters in his backpack.
Leaning back with a sigh, he put his arm back around her shoulders. "Mostly...I'm just scared. What if he totally freaks and doesn't want anything to do with me?" A rare frown fluttered over the young Puff's face. He was just so confused about all of this.

With how long the train ride to Hogwarts was she could easily stop at every compartment and talk to all her friends with waaaaaaay than enough time to return and join him later.
Lamb seemed to have other ideas however. The cat jumped down from her arms and onto the seat beside Drew where he sat down as if silently waiting for him to pet him. "I think Lamb missed you," Rylee laughed softly watching her cat how now meowed quietly, stretching a paw out towards Drew but falling short of actually touching him. No need to worry either, no claws involved, just a small fluffy white paw.

Turning to the other person in the compartment now, he couldn’t help but smile, not actually recognising the face. ...... and she was up!
If her face showed any of her thoughts it went unnoticed as her little 5'1 frame was lifted off the ground in a hug. She hugged him back and giggled until she was placed back down. "I am so glad you came back. I was so worried I wouldn't see you again." Being one of her best friends she didn't want to lose him.
"Oh I'm doing much better." She was about to explain how she was still having some headaches, but nothing to bad when the door opened again. "Tad, hey!" She gave the younger boy a hug, not that she hadn't seen him over summer. Family friends were the best when it came to the group at Hogwarts, she did have a few. Honestly, she had a pretty exciting summer, even with the injury, a wedding, hanging with friends, and the world cup, how couldn't that have been the best!
"Hey watch it on the tall, some of us are more of a smaller package!" Eyeing the two taller boys, she knew her growth spurt over the summer was probably her last so she'd always just be short. Seeing someone else come in she smiled, "Yeah what he said, come on in." She grinned at the new addition, "I'm Chloe!"

Oh, his book? Drewett shaked his head as he reattached the bookmark to the page he last read. "No, it's alright... I-I have the rest of the train ride to read anyway..." he replied. It was perfectly fine. While they did see each other during the summer for the little camping adventure one weekend, he wouldn't mind spending time with Rylee and, apparently, her cat.
Who was already making his way to him. Drewett sat a little more up straight. He wasn't afraid of the cat specifically. It was just his reaction to any creature approaching him in general. The Ravenclaw smiled a little as he watched Lamb and his... aw, look at that paw. It was tiny. "Aw. Hello, Lamb..." he said, patting on his lap in case the cat wanted to come and sit. "I missed you too." Drewett was only this comfortable with Rylee's cat, so he wasn't too fidgety about being hands-on with Lamb.

So she wasn't interrupting his reading session? Good. Rylee wouldn't have minded one bit if he would have liked for her to come back a little later on but this was even better. She was already here. The camping adventure at her home had turned out far better than she ever thought and she had all her friends to take for it. Drew had been one of them that had attended but it still felt like she didn't get much time with him this past summer.
Rylee smiled sitting down near Drew, her eyes fixed on her cat. "So how was the rest of your summer? Glad to be heading back to Hogwarts?" In some ways she was but in other ways she wished summer was a few weeks longer. Lamb wasted absolutely no time at all in making his way onto Drew's lap, furry little head nudging at his hand. There was a very clear smile on her face as she watched the happenings right before her eyes. Was it safe to say she was very proud of how far her friend had come with getting over his fear of creatures?

Kam grinned as she slumped down in the seat next to him and lay her head on his shoulder.. “Good, because it’s awful.” Summer was supposed to be such an amazing time, but really it was awful for her and she didn’t want to have a lonely one ever again.
She looked over at the letters as he put them away and she gently touched his arm. “It’ll be okay. I promise.” She said as she looked at him. “Bast.. you are incredible, he’s be out of his mind to not want anything to do with you. ” She said softly as she rubbed his arm again. After all, this was Professor Wayland they were talking about. He was one of the greatest Professors ever in her mind, besides Professor Kennedy and the new Headmaster. She really liked him.
“Well, lets try not to think of it hmm? Lets see what else we can do.” She said as she smiled up at him and nudged him gently. Maybe they could play a game? Anything to take their minds off of what had happened over the summer.

“Do you have any playing cards? ”
"I know. But now you have learned your lesson and will come with me when I ask you to." Sebastian said with a grin before sticking his tongue out at her. He was definitely not taking no for an answer next summer. She was coming whether she liked it or not.
Sebastian took a deep breath and sighed. It wasn't normal for him to feel self-conscious. He was usually a very happy-go-lucky, laid back type of person, and this was really messing with his head. "I guess...I'm just overthinking...as usual." He said with a chuckle. Sebastian had a touch of anxiety problems. They weren't as bad now as they used to be, and he was pretty sure he didn't get that from his mother. But he couldn't think about that right now; it would just make things worse.
Kam nudged him, and he looked over at her with a small grin. "You are right. Best not dwell on it," he said in his posh English accent. He could definitely use a distraction right about now.
"Of course I do...I always do. What kind of question is that?" He said with a wink before leaning up, grabbing his backpack and rummaging around. "Question is, muggle cards or wizard cards?" He said as he pulled the decks out of his bag with a flourish, and an evil grin to boot.

Kamryn sighed softly as he spoke and she nodded. “Yes, I have learned my lesson well.” Perhaps a little too well, but she would be of age in a few months and then she wouldn’t have to go home. She doubted anyone really knew how lonely she was at home.
And that was fine.
It was fine
This is fine.
Her life motto.
She rubbed his arm again and smiled as him. “We make quite the pair with your over thinking and my angst.” She said with a soft laugh. “Maybe we are both secretly Ravenclaws.” She said as she nudged him gently, hoping to get him out of his head and focus on the present here with her.
“No dwelling. It doesn’t help anything. ” She said with a grin as he pulled out the cards.
“Wizards cards! So I can beat you at Exploding Snap. ” She said with a happy grin.

Sebastian gave her a gentle smile and a nudge hoping to cheer her up. "And you know you can always move into my house. Mom's been trying to get you in there for a couple years now." He said with a cheeky grin. His mother absolutely hated that Kam was alone so much. Italians were very family oriented and didn't think it was right that her family was never around when she was home from Hogwarts.
With a snort he replied, shaking his head, "That we do." That next comment though had him laughing. "Heaven's that is a good joke. I could never be a Ravenclaw. I'm not smart enough, nor diabolical enough." He said raising his eyebrows. He gave her a wink, signalling that he was feeling better already.
"No it doesn't, so we shan't dwell." He said with a pointed look. If he wasn't allowed to dwell....neither was she. With a grin at her response about the card decks he pulled out the wizard deck as well as the pull out table attached to the compartment wall.
"Well you can't kick my butt at exploding snap by sitting next to me." He said with a snarky grin, sticking his tongue out at her.

It really was a testament to how great his friends were that Ewan basically only returned to Hogwarts for them. He really did feel lucky to have all of them, and he counted Chloe as one of those in that close circle. "Honestly, I always wanted to come back. You didn't have much to worry about" he continued, giving a small shoulder nudge and smile.
"Although maybe I should be more worried about you Miss Fragile" Ewan gave her an obvious look up and down now, checking to see if she did look completely healed because he knew she would always under play any injury. "How's your head? All healed?" He knew all about head injuries having fractured his when he was younger and knew how much of a pain it could be after.
Reaching up into the rack, he slid his hands into his backpack for a second and rustled around, looking for something before finally pulling out come muggle chocolate. "Anyone want some chocolate? It's muggle chocolate but it's still pretty good". Tearing some of the pink wrapper away, he pulled out some of the milky brown delight-fullness apart and shoved it into his mouth, the jelly and popping candy setting his taste buds alight as though someone had set a few of those Weasley's Wizard Wheezes fireworks off in his mouth.
