When not being used for some of your Defense lessons, the duelling arena is available for those who want to get in a bit of extra training. There are several dummies available for you to have a go at, as well as a bookshelf to the far corner filled with resources should you decide to get in a bit of extra study.
No need to worry about breaking the dummies, they can withstand most things and have been charmed to repair themselves as needed. If you've got more serious spells to practice, use it on them and not your schoolmates. The Healer has a lot of work to do without dealing with injuries that could easily be avoided and reckless behaviour that leads to serious injury will be met with severe consequence, even if your partner was foolhardy enough to agree to it in the first place.
The only thing I ask is that you return the room to its previous state. The dummies will take care of themselves but any other messes I expect you to clean before you go.
To ensure some level of accountability, you will be required to tap your wand against the open page of the log book on the way in and then again on your way out. It will make the necessary notes on who used the room and when.
Note you won't be able to enter the room unless you tap your wand against the book by the door and I don't suggest trying to tinker with the charms. It might hurt a little more than you were expecting it to and all so you can avoid a little clean up? Nah. Not worth it, trust me.

There was the possibility that the announcement was to let everyone know that the Ministry was here and everything would be sorted by the end of the day, but yeah, no..... That was unlikely.
She could only hope that things weren't getting worse.
The blonde reached the Duelling Arena in no time after having rushed there. She immediately began looking for Levi, Ellie, Alfie and Soraya, but she couldn't see them... They would be here soon, she told herself. It was because she had rushed that they weren't... Only a small number of students and staff had arrived. They were fine.
She noticed that both Stas and Lili had arrived. Good. Tessa made her way over to Lili, all the while looking out for her siblings, best friend, and boyfriend, and stood beside her. Stas would likely be focused on protecting younger kids and being there to assist Headmaster Trent if needed, so she didn't go over to her. She hoped Stas wouldn't need to do anything. Tess whispered, uncharacteristically quietly, to Lili. "Do you think something has happened?" It was a dumb question because meetings obviously weren't called for no reason, but she had to ask. What the question really meant was 'Do you think something really, really bad has happened?' and 'Do you think things are getting worse?'
Lili was trying not to panic. She knew panicking was not going to happen. Staying calm was a good option here, and right now Lili saw it as the only option. She couldn't do anything right now, not until she knew more, so she would just stay calm. She was mostly keeping to herself. She didn't want to speculate what might be happening. Yes. She was scared. But she was trying to let it not overwhelm her. She was a seventh year, she needed to be a role model to the other younger students.
She looked over as she heard a question from her friend, and she shrugged. "It must have. They wouldn't have interrupted lessons if it something bad hadn't happened...." And she hoped it wasn't something too too bad. As the headmaster started talking she shut up, and listened to him carefully. Oh. The mist was in the castle now? Okay. That was something to panic about, and she was certainly glad that her common room was not on the lower floors. She was also sad that the potions classroom was now out of action. That was sad. No more potions then? Though, that wasn't really the issue here, or the main concern.
Oh. What do you when in danger. "Constant Vigilance" The blonde murmured, trying to contribute a little. "We need to always be aware of our surroundings, and vigilant to change. We might be so wrapped up in something, or one particular thing, that we miss the danger that is coming from another source, which could end up making the situation worse" For example, they could be so worried about the mist in the ground floors that they missed it potentially working it's way in through the windows. So really, being on guard for all eventualities was possibly a good idea.

Analiese followed the other students and professors into the Duelling Arena. She had a feeling this has something to do with the mist. Was someone dead? Had the mist gotten into the castle? This was certainly an interesting - if not scary - first year at Hogwarts.
The young Claw was contemplating whether her mother's idea of sending her to Beauxbatons was a good suggestion. Yes, it definitely was. Analiese sat down and waited for Headmaster Trent to begin speaking. She bit her lip in fright and began fidgeting with her bracelet a lot. When the headmaster began speaking, her head jerked up. Unlike her normal self, Analiese was very quiet and did not answer Headmaster Trent's questions.

It was the emphasis that the Headmaster gave in response to Cordelia's question. No one has died. Really? Really? Then where was Kamryn?? Why wasn't she at this mandatory assembly? And there was another missing boy too - Maeve had seen the posters. But it was Kamryn whom Maeve was most worried about; her Kamryn. Her first kiss. Her best friend. Other than the one Gryffindor Prefect beside her.
What meant to do when faced with danger? Sticking together and vigilance all sounded like good things, but what SHE wanted to do right now was leave. Like seriously. She was 17 now, an adult by wizarding standards. How could she focus on anything when the Headmaster seemed to nonchalantly shrug off these missing students? I mean, sure she guessed it was probably because he didn't want to cause more worry especially with the younger students... but she WAS worried. Kamryn was missing and yes she'd disappeared for days before, but not like this. This felt different somehow. And because of that, she just stood there, not answering the Headmaster, just wanting cuddles and to go home.

With any luck that one house elves would scream and sob themselves hoarse because their contributions to this conversation were not all that appreciated. Though what Eiji did pull from their ramblings was that the kitchens were somehow secure and the house elves had all fled in there. With the food. So that one little Gryffindor's question was answered as far as he was concerned.
And the headmaster was getting his share of answers to his question, another which the fourth year would not bother answering even on better days. A lot of it was common sense, honestly. And no...Eiji did not want a repeat of the last grounds incident either. He was still reliant on calming and dreamless sleep draught to get himself through the night...and some days, if he were open about things with people other than those who had been present during his examination post incident. And Missa. Always Missa.
His eyes quickly searched the room for hers again, needing them more than he was willing to admit to anyone - even to her right now - when he heard that Hufflepuff prefect offer up the most insane suggestion as a means to escape this mist and his attention was reluctantly pulled from his girlfriend. It was the same moronic suggestion that Professor O'Hara had offered in the boathouse. Incapable of being of any help to anyone and putting Eiji in reluctant debt to a centaur.
"Flying with zero visibility into this mist is a death wish," he said simply and sharply. "Once you're in it...you don't know which way is which...and it overwhelms you with fear. You wouldn't make it past the next tower let alone fly far enough to escape the grounds. The only reason any of us escaped the boathouse was because the mist hadn't thickened too far beyond the lake's shores at the time.... and Thereos was able to lead us back on foot."
And besides, the headmaster hadn't asked any of them for a plan. He had only asked them the same sort of question one would expect in a standard classroom setting.
He wanted mum. He wanted dad. He wanted grandpa to come in with the entire Ministry and get them out of here.
And he wanted both of those house elves to stop making so much nose, take a cue from the third one who had arrived and be chill as a cucumber.
Also...Missa was still his girlfriend...right? That...that hadn't changed too...in light of everything...had it?

When Trent started talking, Lucas focused his gaze on him, instead. No one has died. No one has died. He didn't know why but the words that the man was saying seemed to reassure him - a little. Only a little. The...... situation? Yeah, it sounded bad. It sounded very bad. But it also sounded....... reassuring?
Yeah, he didn't know either.
But even so, his eyebrows furrowed more and more as the man spoke. So the mist, this thing, was in the castle? And they weren't allowed to go to the ground floors or any lower? The uncomfortable feeling in his stomach only seemed to grow at those words. The idea of this....... thing being inside? Yeah, he didn't like that one bit. Not at all.
No one is to make any attempts at getting to the ground floor or beyond.
Yeah, he didn't need telling twice.
Then, all of a sudden, the man was asking questions, which only confused the boy even more. What were they meant to do when faced with danger? The third year, obviously, had an answer for this already, and he had a feeling that the Headmaster probably knew what it was already. But that didn't stop him from opening his mouth and saying very quietly, "Run and hide. Try and get to safety as quickly as possible, especially if you don't think you can fight it." Pause. "Or aren't strong enough to fight it." And screaming only worked sometimes, not every-

Lucas jumped at the sudden sound of the house elf apparating into the room and then at the house elf, uh, wailing? Screaming? His eyes widened, first at the sudden loud sound that only caused him to close off even more, but then at the things that the house elf was saying. Fluffsies? Misty? Hogwarts is under attack??
Uh?????
Confused, the boy looked towards Trent, just waiting to see what the man was going to say about all of....... this.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
It was.....just a tad more calming to hear some of the responses. A tad because while he knew that intellectually these children knew these answers, they hadn’t been able to put them into practice when the real danger had appeared. Reinforcing this was the only thing left to do. Should they find themselves in danger again, there was no guarantee he or any other member of staff would be there. What would happen to them then if their first instinct was to panic and cry?
The thought chilled the man to the bone. He needed them to all be okay and ready, no matter what.
“Yes.” He affirmed Tamesis’s reply. “None of that nonsensical screaming and running around. You have to be quiet and fully assess the situation that you’re in before you take any actions at all.” Please please please tell him they were listeni—oh for the love of Merlin.
It took no time for an unimpressed scowl to set in as first Toddles then Tinka burst in shattering the false calm he’d managed to bring to the room. The Headmaster’s brows knitted, perplexed while he listened. Fluffsies? Cupcakes? “Wait, the kitchens are safe?” When he spoke, his voice was calm. On some level, he was trying to bring them down to his level of non panic. “Stop. Breathe. We’re not under attack.” If the kitchen was safe....the common rooms with their sealed entrances likely were too. He shifted his gaze to Beezley who next appeared seeming entirely unaware of anything that was happening. Ah to be blissfully ignorant. “I’d like your help with a bit of retrieval.” But He’d have to get back to that in a minute. At the moment he was still working it all out in his head.
Smethwyck had a good point as well, another that would prove useful. “That’s right, stick together as much as possible. Try to avoid walking alone. At the first sign of danger, don’t try to be a hero, book it out of there back to safety and alert the nearest professor or myself.” Whoever was easiest to find.
“I’ll be getting to that in a minute, Katharos.” Malachi understood the terror and confusion but there was no need to jump ahead of themselves in the conversation. One thing at a time. “But that’s an extremely important point I need everyone to listen to. Stay calm. It won’t always be easy, but it benefits no one to panic and run wild or break down in tears. You put yourself at greater risk. Assess the situation. What’s happening? What’s the best way out? You need a clear head.”
The Headmaster, for all his trying, still felt his eyes widen at Calrissian’s suggestion. What madness would drive the prefect to such terrible judgement? Rasting is right. That mist is thick and misleading. We don’t know how high up it goes and we don’t truly know what lurks in there and it’s easier than anything to get turned around when you’re in it. A professor cannot sit on a broom with each student to keep you all safe and on track and I can’t trust that students will stay the course no matter what they may experience. It’s the surest way to lose more people.” He’d seen the students reacting on the GROUND to the mist. After that sight, not even with a month of sleep deprivation would he trust them to safely fly a broom through their terrors. No. He could see most of them terrified, panicked and dead. Another thought to bring the chill within his bones.
The nodded at Winklebleck. “At a time like this it is important to exercise caution. Don’t go barrelling through the corridors senselessly. There is danger. Let’s be smart about how we get around the castle.”
Did Dakest’s response surprise him? Not after being the boy’s defense professor, no. He could tell that he was panicked but to his credit, he was not screaming and looking like he could expire at any second. Small blessings. “Getting away from the mist would be the ideal reaction, yes. Don’t go toward, don’t attempt to go through it. Turn back. Always.”
Which tied in perfectly with Montague’s statement. “Absolutely. Constant vigilance. Now more than ever. We’ll all have to pay far more attention to our surroundings.”
Malachi caught the voice of the Ravenclaw Prefect, what they would do was actually next on the agenda.
“Everyone listen carefully.” He paused, in case there were any more elves who wanted to bust in. When none came, he continued. “By now, I’m sure many of you have heard, two students have gone missing. Their parents have been notified and I’ve reached out to the ministry. Until a solution can be brought forward, you will all need to take great care. For the time being, Gryffindors you will share your common room with the Slytherins. Hufflepuffs, you’ll be in Ravenclaw Tower. If what the elves have said is true, the common rooms will still be sealed and safe. They will fetch your belongings and bring them to the respective common room.” He turned again to the elves. “Get the other elves involved. Tell them meals will now be served in either common room and that they too should be staying away from the mist.” The kitchen was safe, the elves didn’t need to try being heroes either.
“Does anyone have any questions?”

It felt chaotic. As soon as the room started to fill up - with students and everyone's very panicky energy, Missa started to freak out too. The elves were not helping anyone either.
Maybe Professor Beryl needed to prescribe everyone a calming draught.
When the headmaster started speaking, her hand on Trinity's hand tightened, and she REALLY tried to not look as panicked as she felt. She needed to channel her mother at the moment. She needed to be strong. But nothing the headmaster said comforted her or made her feel particularly strong. It was also starting to feel like an impromptu class, or at least by the way everyone was replying to the professor - but it was good to hear what everyone had to say - since her mind was slowly but surely.... going blank.
By the corner of her eye, she saw Nettie comforting Elosie - and that made her reach out and take Nettie's hand too. She wasn't sure why, but she just needed to. And as soon as her hand closed around her, she looked down - and closed her eyes, forcing herself to breathe.
Before she could sink to the floor altogether though - she /heard/ a very familiar voice - a voice she really really needed to hear, and looked up immediately - and she couldn't explain what she felt when she saw Eiji was looking at her too.
There was relief. There was more than relief, and it was honestly hard to look away - until the headmaster spoke again.
Sharing a common room? She didn't mind that - not at all, except se would have preferred to have Slytherins near by too - for obvious reasons.

She'd barely registered that Maeve was standing next to her and was holding her hand. It didn't comfort her one bit; the opposite really. But she couldn't find the strength to pull away either. It simply wasn't worth her attention at the moment.
Nobody had died.
The emphasis Headmaster Trent had put on the word hadn't gone by unnoticed. So something had happened, though. People were officially missing. Two students. "......who?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, sounding as if she hadn't used it in a while. Yet somehow she'd managed to speak loud enough for the Headmaster to (hopefully) hear her.
there was so much screaming and panic in the room that it almost felt oppressive. The headmaster’s suggestion to be careful in. the corridors simply made Grainne think. ”….Headmaster” she asked as she raised her hands ”is there a spell we can use to make doorways transparent?...so we can see if the mist is waiting for us to open the doors?” she asked because it was clear by the way they were asking that the mist seemed sentient…or at least dangerous.
She just hoped that Aine and Aoife were okay…and really, deep down the little Gryffindor even wanted Liam to be safe. Sure, she didn’t really care for her older brother because of how mean he had been to them but she cared. Deep down under all of the pranks and the animosity she cared for him.
”I hope they are okay,” she muttered to whoever was closest to her. The words were meant not only for the missing but for everyone. For her family. For the missing. And for the house elves.
Everyone needed to be okay…and maybe, just maybe she truly had a little bit of the Hufflepuff that the sorting hat had suggested to her on the first night in the castle. let everyone be okay.

IT'S NOT AN ACT OF LOVE __________________________________________________ ___________ ____________
IF YOU MAKE HER ____________
Anna was too focused on Headmaster Trent's words to even notice Maeve's attempt at hand-holding. No one had died. The sentence was enough to make Anna relax a little, and she watched as other professors moved closer to the Headmaster. Her eyes were now on professor Noble, who spoke directly to the main man. The Gryffindor moved ahead of another row os students as an attempt to hear what they might whisper to each other better.
That didn't seem to be necessary, however, as Trent was speaking to the entire room. The sixth year didn't particularly feel like answering the Headmaster's question because that was not a lesson and, well, she was more focused on whether or not they were actually safe in there for now. She kept looking over her shoulder and towards the main entrance for any sign of the mysterious mist.
The house-elves popping in out of nowhere and screaming and wailing sent shivers down her spine and she automatically drew her wand out as it took her a second to understand what was going on. Right, they were just afraid. That was okay, given the circumstances.
Everyone's replies and some suggestions almost didn't fully register in Anna's mind because she was saving up her energy to the idea they would actually act upon. Their Headmaster would decide what they were going to do so there was no point listening to anyone else. Anna then kept her ears tuned to his voice and that alone as she looked around at her fellow students.
It was a good thing no one was panicking yet. She kept intently looking around as if to keep them - especially the younger ones - from panicking. Not that she was prepared to comfort a crying first year if she spotted one, but there was something reassuring - to herself, at least - about what she was doing. She did hear what Lucas Dakest had said, and she immediately made a mental note to find him straight away if anything happened within the next few minutes. He thought of himself not strong enough to fight? That would probably make him so. That made Anna automatically took responsibility over him for the time being. He was, after all, the younger brother of one of her close friends. And he was a Gryffindor himself, which already put him under Anna's immediate responsibility anyway.
As the Headmaster spoke again, the girl listened, hoping they'd get more actionable instructions, but instead they were just told the new sleeping arrangements. She tried to wipe the look of confusion and slight disbelief off her face because surely he was working towards actually saving them all, but she couldn't help but feel like that wasn't enough. They were supposed to act, actually do something. Now! Right now! The mist wasn't backing off, in fact, it was basically coming towards them as they spoke, slowly but surely.
If they had any questions? Yes, Anna had one. And no, 'who' wasn't one of them, although she still wanted specific names. "What are we doing about the missing people?" Like, right now. Now. Yes, yes, she knew the mist was dangerous, but people were missing!! They couldn't just wait for the Ministry without doing something!? Every minute was important in these situations and it didn't seem like the Ministry would be able to simply stroll through the mist, now, would they??
Alice had been in the Ravenclaw tower reading a book on how to improve your magical skill (most of the advice seemed useless) when she heard the announcement. Hurrying to place the book back on the shelf where she had taken it from, the professor had hurried out of the library and made her way to the dueling arena. She joined a stream of people entering and waiting patiently until there was enough room to enter.
She listened with increasing horror (though not surprise, not at this point) as Malachi described their predicament. The arrival of the house elves made her curl her lips in disgust, though she tried her best to contain her displeasure. Not that anyone would notice in this panic. Ridiculous as it was, she wanted to blame the house elves for the fog. Obviously it made no sense, but she was still mad over their rude refusal to help her monitor the castle for future dangers. Now they were all dealing with a terrible danger (in which students may have died) and again, they had had no preparation at all. If only someone had listened to her before all this, then maybe they could have caught this. Perhaps they could have investigated further on why so many creatures were leaving the forest. Perhaps they could have called in the ministry of magic and subdued the fog before it ever set foot in school grounds. But she, Alice O'Hara, had been insulted and reminded of her past as a Julian minion when she had brought up the idea. Now they were reaping the consequences of her colleagues pathetic lack of foresight.
Growing increasingly annoyed, Alice finally spoke up - not caring who she was interrupting in the process. "Why don't we just evacuate the school through your Floo network, Headmaster?" She spoke loud enough for everyone to hear, though she tried to keep all anger out of her voice. "I do not see one good reason why we should continue to risk the student's lives when we hardly can even begin to fathom what we are dealing with. Does anyone truly believe the fog will stop where it's at? If even one person in this room believes this, please raise your hand! Anyone? Show us your hand!" She looked around to see which poor fools raised their hands. "If anyone raised their hands, then please, PLEASE explain to me why you think the fog will stop where it's at, when all year it has been slowly expanding from the forest to the grounds and now into the castle. Headmaster, sir, I mean no disrespect, but can you honestly tell me that you are willing to risk further harm to our students on the assumption that we'll figure out how to deal with this fog before it envelops the castle? Please tell me, sir, if you know something about this fog that we do not? Is there a weakness? Why are we not evacuating?"
She was sure he was going to sternly rebuke her. No doubt he would accuse her of fearmongering - as if taking common sense precautions was fearmongering! This was the same person who came to her office to threaten her job for being below average in her magical talent. At the time, she had admitted that he had a point - someone on staff should not be below average when it comes to magic - not when the students counted on them for protection. Yet if he was going to keep the students in the castle with the fog, then he had better have a plan that wasn't just waiting for the Ministry.

Cornish was doing an excellent job of glaring at the Headmaster, although it wasn't like the mist was his fault. Probably not his fault. But being trapped inside with his creatures all inconveniently evacuated... it was miserable and he wanted to throw a very childish temper tantrum. Plus he was wearing shoes, and that was the worst thing ever. His flops were in the caravan!
Maybe he was totally useless in this scenario, although Cornish had first hand experience with the mist and could put some minds at ease. Especially Fhearghall, who wanted see-through doors. "I was caught in the early stages of the mist. It was terrifying, but escapable. If you open a door and see mist there, close the door and send for help. We'll get you out." And he didn't think the Headmaster would disagree.
But y'know who was disagreeable? Professor O'Hara. "Woman," Cornish stepped forward and turned his glare to her. "If you mean no disrespect, then be respectful. Stop fomenting a student revolution for your own weird pleasure and listen to the boss man. You're scaring the kiddos." And not just the words she was using. She was a few screws short of a tool box.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Right. The Headmaster expected there to be questions. At a time like this, it was only natural and why he opened the floor to questions. The first didn't come as a surprise at all, if he was being honest. He'd thought not mentioning specifics might have been easier on the students, those that didn't know at least. Those who'd been friends with the students would have obviously already known who by this point. Nevertheless, he had permitted questions. "Third Year Ravenclaw, Thadius Potter and Sixth Year Hufflepuff Kamryn Keighley. Anyone with further information is being asked to come forward. My office is always open." He answered as calmly and as simply as he could manage, not wanting to incite further panic.
Malachi's brows rose just slightly at the younger Gryffindor's question. Making doors invisible? Well it made sense as a question to a degree.....he supposed. "The spell you may be looking for is the disillusionment charm." Close to invisible. "But I wouldn't recommend leaving the doors in that state, lest someone else be running and end up face first in one of them. Besides, Professor Cornish has the right of it. The mist isn't some fast moving, unavoidable entity. If you see it, go the other way. Move with some haste and you should be fine. Like I said, try to find someone."
As to what they were doing about the missing people, the students who were warned to avoid the mist but decided it best to go outside regardless, the man had many thoughts about them. Before responding, Malachi took a subtle but calming breath. "The ministry will be taking on the search for the missing students. As it stands, we cannot afford to send anyone out after them. We don't know what's out there, we don't know what it's capable of and we don't know where on the vast grounds they are. It would be reckless and negligent to have any more venture out into the mist. Better to leave it to those properly equipped to handle the situation than risk losing more." The logical conclusion.
The scowl he'd worn earlier reappeared as Professor O'Hara spoke, in fact interrupting him while he was trying to explain. It was not a good look, not at all. The words she spoke were no better. For the second time this meeting, the man was pleased to have Cornish step in. She was striking further fear into the students. She was building panic where he'd sought to temper it. There was a time and a place for everything. He was always willing to hear out his employees but not when they chose to be blatantly antagonistic and insubordinate to the point it could not be overlooked. She'd told him she wanted to impress him. Was this how she hoped to go about that?
"That's enough of that." Once again, she'd proven in the face of disaster she was like to go off nonsensically to the detriment of the students' peace of mind. The fact she chose to interrupt him to do it just made it all the worse, but the man remained calm. There were words he wanted to have with her, but he understood the concept of time, place and appropriateness. Here, before all the students, this was not the place to stir dissension. "I'm currently in talks with the Minister. We're working out a solution. There are hundreds of students within the castle, any evacuation plan will need to be well thought out and not thrown together." He didn't have nearly enough floo powder to transport them all, something he wished she'd have thought of before she spoke. No doubt some students would now have the incorrect assumption that there was a way out that was being ignored. Not the right time or place at all.

So everyone else (including other staff) were allowed to give their opinions in front of everyone without rebuke, but not her? Oh, how typical. Now she was being told to shut up by her boss.
Well, fine. If Malachi wanted to keep the students in the castle, and if he cared more that they remain calm than that they remain alive...well, there was nothing she could do about that. She wasn't going to argue in front of the students - not anymore than she already had.
That Cornish on the other hand... "My weird pleasure?!" She slided up to him and hissed the words furiously into his ears. No one else would hear unless they were right behind them. Then she swore at him (still whispering) in Gobbledegook. The insult she used was hard to translate, but she basically called him crazy. Whether or not he understood the language was irrelevant. "I want to talk to you later."
That stood for whether or not he liked it. She was going to have a word in his office or somewhere else just as she caught him alone. In the meantime...
"I am sorry. Is there anything I can help with, Headmaster, sir?"
There was not a trace of anger in her voice. If the headmaster wanted mindless obedience, then so be it. Alice could be his minion just as good as she could be Julian's!
Beezley was excited to get to retrieve something for the master and her ears perked up, but having them perk up she heard things the studenties were saying, "Oh no Beezley thinks something bad is happening, masters Beezley will do whatever is needed, Beezley wants to keep the studenties safe."

He... he said their names. Now she knew the other person, but Tad, he said Tad's name and Chloe didn't feel so well. She knew he was missing, she had been looking from him for days. She put posters up and talked to the Centaur, but the headmaster saying that name, she had pictures, pictures at home in her mom's books of them in diapers together, she was pushing him in a stroller, swinging at the park, brooms with quidditch, and now he was officially missing.
Chloe didn't want to be weak during this time, she didn't want to be, but her stomach was turning and then her... every single time there was something wrong Professor O'Hara would go on her whatever she went on. She was wanting hands to raise and to evacuate, "What? No, we can't all leave, who will help Tad, who will find him. No, Headmaster, please someone has to find him... We can't just leave him, please don't leave him." Without realizing she was sobbing as she spoke in a panic, clutching for anything that would give them hope that this mist would go away and the two people missing would come back to them.
She looked around realizing her face was wet and realizing she wasn't being able to stop, this wasn't how she wanted te school to see her, no she wanted to be strong and positive and help others. She was the one that put up the motivational posters, that tried to make everyone feel good, but right now she didn't have the strength, she knew what she had seen with that mist, she knew how it felt, and now one of her best friends were missing and she couldn't do anything to help him, she felt hopeless and defeated.
It had been a close call but Thereos was here by the grace of a few well time flippant sticks of wizarding nature. Entering the room with a bit of a limp (one of his hind legs had suffered a nasty twist while trying to take some staircases as a leap when the mist had begun its encroachment and prior to ramps being conjured for his hooves, the centaur found himself witnessing what fear and panic did to human nature as the headmaster, O'Hara, and Cornish appeared to have each other locked in some sort of verbal conflict was warring glances. Or at least that was how such behaviors read to a centaur like himself.
"Now is not the time to turn on one another," he spoke firmly as he limped further in and rested a strong hand on the shoulder of the youngling known as Chloe McCarthy. Though his were were, ironically, not meant for the youths present but those meant to mentor and guide them. And particularly for the History of Magic and Care of Magical Creatures professors respectively. Do not make the centaur regret further his decision to take leave of his colony in favor of those now trapped within these walls.
The humans needed to pull themselves together.
His slightly colder, wilder, brown eyes looked down at the young Ravenclaw with regret as he recalled their brief chat earlier in the week as she placed posters for her dear missing friend. He had held his tongue then, as he would now, on his perceived fate of the boy. Though all he offered was a regretful shake of the head.

"You're not the only ones who've been in that mist, you know," Archer replied to the obnoxious Slytherin (and yes, she did realize the irony). "You personally are just the only one that's using it as an excuse to be a jerk," and she was only using the word jerk because there were ickles around "to everyone around. Of course, I didn't mean flying through the stuff, I meant flying over it. This may be our only chance before it starts expanding upwards and through the school, you know." And she was pretty sure there were others who would agree that they needed to GET THE HECK OUT OF DODGE.
Wait, the Headmaster was agreeing with the obnoxious one? It was enough to make her want to give a scream of frustration. But as one of the older students and a prefect to boot, she thought better of it. All she could do at this point was hope that the mist didn't-wait, what? Okay, first of all, finally an adult with their head screwed on straight. Second, the Headmaster had a Floo in his office? "Ooo, great idea!" She didn't necessarily like Floo travel, but desperate times, right?
Only the Headmaster was shutting down that idea too, in favor of.......waiting for the ministry?! "Yeah, because governments are always interested in helping kids and teenagers....." This time she did let out a huff of frustration as the one adult with an actual GOOD idea backed down and basically became the same eager to please witch she had been during the Scrimgeour regime. "So...what are going to do when the mist decides to spread further through the castle and the Ministry still doesn't come?" she asked calmly. Because they wouldn't.
Merlin, it'd been a miracle if she lived to see graduation. And she'd been soooo close.....

The rest of the exchange that went on between himself, the headmaster, and the one Hufflepuff prefect was entirely lost on him....because he was no longer paying attention to any of it. Nothing else really mattered once he saw the same longing reflected in Missa's eyes that he carried in his own.
It was everything.
It gave him hope.
So while she carried on chastising him for whaaaaaaaaatever, the fourth year was moving his way through the crowd towards Missa...only to feel a very real agitation when he heard the sleeping arrangements. Gryffindor. He had no attachments to that house at all besides it being his mother's house and grandpa's. So it was with an agitated sort of desperation that he spoke to Missa, his request coming in the heat of the moment and entirely reactionary. "...please try and keep an extra eye on Rebecca. Please." He wouldn't realize how pleading he had sounded until he played the entire scene over again in his head later that night. It was selfish and a bit unreasonable given what had happened not all that long ago, but there was no one else he trusted with his little sister as much as he did her. Although Trinetta too received the same sort of pleading look.
Did he have any other questions? Not really. Though he did want to argue a little about siblings staying together even if their houses were not designated in the manner in which the headmaster had declared, but he was also - selfishly - glad for the excuse to have some space away from it all. He just wanted to get out of this crowded space and...into another crowded space in Gryffindor Tower. At least, maybe, he would be able to feel something lingering there of his mum and grandpa. Because, while he wouldn't admit to it, he really just wanted their embraces right now.
Being a teenager was hard. Being a Hogwarts teenager was even harder.

Simran was tired. Truly, truly tired. And watching all this infighting was just making her head ache. Oh, if only they were her children and she could punish them both. And oh, the poor children.
"We don't have enough working brooms for the whole student population, dear, and it's best to remember not just the statute of secrecy, but also that not everyone can fly," she said, quiet but authoritative. No sense being loud now and worsening her migraine. "It is a form of magic like any other, and highly individual in terms of skill."
"I see no reason why the Ministry wouldn't come to our help -- it's a question of how, with so many of us."
As for O'Hara, Simran felt increasingly small, especially at the tone and the timing, and her usually impeccable posture was getting more and more difficult to keep straight when all she wanted to do was curl up with her great-granddaughter and know that she was safe. As teachers, it was their job to be the stability the students could count on, no matter what seemed to be hurled at them. She settled for giving O'Hara a stern look for the fearmongering, before the young McCarthy girl caught her eye.
Stern Teacher Face out the window, now it was Concerned Grandmama Simran who tried to catch the girl's eye and offer her a reassuring smile. "Everything that can be done is being done, but we have to keep all of you safe as well."
And themselves, especially knowing she wasn't equipped to handle the Mist. She only knew how to teach, how to get her children through school, how to give them a cup of calming tea and promise that everything would be okay.

Patricks eyes were tracking the room. He was worried. He had been missing Kam, they were supposed to meet up again to gaze at the stars. He heard Eiji making comments about flying in the mist in response to the puff prefect. Great, rolling his eyes he tried to not get annoyed with the banter because it wasn’t doing a single thing for getting peoples nerves calmed or finding a solution. He didn’t say anything because it wasn’t his place.
and there it was…. The first student to freak out a bit he sounded calm but his quiet voice made Patrick believe he was extremely nervous. Lucas did not sound like he wanted any part of the mist, and the house elves appearing did not help calm the poor kid. He felt terrible. He was trying to look like a duck himself, calm and cool on the outside and maybe freaking out like a goon on the inside.
His face had stayed pretty neutral until he heard that he was going to be sharing a common room with the Gryffindors. He wasn’t thrilled because he liked his common room. After six years you get to a point where being in another place just doesn’t seem to be the right fit and he was at that point. He was not happy. But he couldn’t show that because he had to lead by example for the other students.
Anna’s voice coming through the room gave him a sigh of relief that someone else was just as concerned as he was for finding them. He wantedNEEDED to know she was okay. He was one more person going missing from telling his parents he would just study at home at take NEWTs and try to get a job because he was really starting to believe the place was super unsafe. The headmasters words about the ministry working out a plan didn’t put him at any ease, it made him feel worse than not knowing what was going on with the fog.
Turning at the sound of the professors having a squabble he quickly looked away not wanting any part of it. But here he was watching Chloe lose it. He felt terrible because he was feeling the same exact way. Kam was no where to be found. He hadn’t spotted Jolie anywhere either and it was really starting to make him worry that there was no longer just two students missing but three.
Here he was, trying to figure out why the most ridiculous things were going on at Hogwarts and why he even went there because he was #notafan and wanted out… but he was stuck.
It was hard work, but the elf managed to calm herself enough to listen to the Headmaster’s words. Something about staying away from the mist. Oh yes, Tinka could do that! She would stay FAR away from the mist and the creatures that lurked within.
“Tinka will help with the studentsies’ things.” She shook while she spoke but her voice no doubt less panicked than it had been a minute ago. It made her feel somewhat better knowing they would still be able to prepare and deliver food. Staying in the kitchen was perfectly doable.
The elf shrunk when O’Hara began to speak. She looked between her and the creature man then the Headmaster then her.
Maybe....maybe she would go get started on those trunks now.....

Nettie was a little shocked when Missa took her hand, but gave her friend an encouraging smile as she did so. She was quite relieved, honestly, that things seemed to finally be returning to normal between the two of them after...certain Valentine's Day shenanigans.
Her attention was drawn back to Trent as he began to talk about sleeping arrangements. Wait... HUFFLEPUFF?? But...Nettie didn't know hardly any Hufflepuffs. Rebecca, yes...she supposed Céline was also a Puff, but she didn't really talk to her all THAT much...but Slytherin had Eloise, Ethan, Nina and Eiji. She would much rather be bunking with them, where she could keep an eye on everyone. She would feel about a thousand times better knowing they were all the same tower, safe when they went to bed at night. SIGH.
Her desire to snap at the Hufflepuff prefect when she came for Eiji like that was STRONG, but she kept her mouth shut. It would only make the situation worse. Still, that didn't stop the Ravenclaw from shooting the Hufflepuff girl the DIRTIEST look she could muster up. This wasn't a game of who had suffered in the mist MORE. When it came down to it, they were ALL in danger, and Kamryn and Tad still hadn't been found. As Eiji approached them, asking Missa to keep an eye on Rebecca, she noticed him look at her in a pleading sort of way. Though the question had been directed at his girlfriend, she knew it applied to her too, and she gave him a nod. She adored that little girl - she was NOT let anything happen to her.

Vita watched the scene unfold around her, feeling very far away from it all. Her things were in the common room. Everything she had left from her old life, everything she had left of her mom. Though the elves seemed to have the ability to get their belongings, the seventh year wasn't yet convinced they'd do so safely or successfully. They were panicked, the things they were saying...it made her stomach drop.
...And then the mention of missing students was thrown into the mix. Relief washed over her knowing that neither of the missing classmates were Slytherins, and the thought was followed by overwhelming guilt. How could she have thought such a thing? Rubbing her forehead, she tried to keep the constant wave of emotions at bay and find something resembling clarity. She needed to think clearly, be on alert. Constant vigilance... Clearly some of the adults in this room weren't capable of that, flying off the handle and making accusations and generally adding more fear to an already scary situation.
Focusing on the headmaster, Vita waited for him to give the prefects direction. She needed a task. She wanted one. She was all ears.

That little McCarthy girl was crying, sobbing really, and it was entirely O'Hara's fault. She saw that, right? Cornish shook off the clingy professor's touch so he could offer a sleeve to the Ravenclaw to wipe her eyes. Did he look like the sort of person who carried a handkerchief?
"You may want to talk to me, but I'm through talking," Cornish responded in perfect Gobbledygook with a little tilt of his head to O'Hara. Polite but dismissive. Dunzo, crazy lady.
"Headmaster, I'll assist the elves in gathering supplies from the submerged common rooms."
