Default DADA Lesson 1 - Shhh

The first thing you'll notice as you enter classroom 104 is that it doesn't at all resemble a classroom. For those of you more familiar with Headmaster Trent's teaching methods, this may not come as much of a surprise, not especially since the notice did mention it being a practical lesson. There isn't a desk or chair in sight.

What is present? Cushions. Padding. You've more or less walked into a fully padded, white room. The Headmaster is by the door waiting to greet you and ready to slam the door shut the moment the clock strikes 11 am.

The room is rather comfy. It's the sort you'd find in a soundproof environment. The floors, the ceiling, every crevice and corner is covered in spongy absorbent material.

Step lively, there's a lot to do today!

OOC: Welcome to the first DADA lesson of the term everyone!! Opening just a little earlier because I won't be home later like I thought I would be <3 Don't forget to read the classroom rules before posting. I'll have the first question up in 24 hours

The lesson hasn't started yet

CLASS HAD BEGUN!

Lucas didn't really know how he felt about Defence Against the Dark Arts. It was unpredictable and dangerous and required a lot of facing things he didn't want to face. And he needed to work extra hard on it because it was an important subject that he might need one day. Maybe.

But one thing he did know for sure was that he couldn't be late to this lesson. There was a reason, a bigger reason, as to why it was mentioned during the speech, there had to be. It was why he found himself rushing down the corridor as quickly as he could without running. He even moved past the Headmaster, shooting him a quick smile and a, "Good morning!" as he went into the-

Oh.

Woah.

This was...... different. The room was entirely covered in white? Confused, he glanced over at the Headmaster and then back at the padding all around him. As he slowly walked on the padded floor, he couldn't help but think about how...... creepy it looked as well. A million and one reasons behind this ran through his head and he didn't like any of them. Should he be worried? Because he was worried.

It was probably because of this that he found himself walking towards a spot right near , shooting him a bigger smile. Hey hello!

It was not his least favorite of subjects nor was it near the top of his list with favorites - though it was no reflection of the Headmaster's ability of instruction. Eiji simply was not in to the subject and all this spell casting, not unless there was something that could be more applicable to his brews but....so far...nothing was particularly standing out as memorable save for a few defensive measures during his collecting rounds.

The classroom set up came as no surprise and the Slytherin greeted it with a bit of a groan as he made his way towards ...somewhere to stand. White padded room. Huh. Was the Headmaster trying to tell them all something?

Greeting the man with his usual polite nod of the head, the fourth year hovered somewhere around the back of the pack and folded his arms across his chest and waited.

Aaron was mid!yawn as he stepped through the door for Defense. After ruffling his hair a bit, he moved further in, offering nods and smiles to his peers. Sigh, he was ready for a nap. Clearly he had yet to shake off summer behaviors. First weeks back were nigh impossible.

"Morning, Headmaster!" The enthusiasm was maybe, clearly, obviously forced, but he didn't want to present himself as anything other. It felt like bad manners to him, and the subject was always a fun one, no matter if he did appear dead on his feet.

Shaking himself (more awake, hopefully), Aaron took stock of the room again and just stood somewhere. Near a few Slytherins. Days without desks and chairs in DADA were utterly exhausting, but he was here. Yes, hi.

Was a normal classroom really an expectation at this point? Not really, no. Indigo was plenty used to Defense Against the Dark Arts lessons taking place in unusual and exciting places that didn't seem like they could possibly even be in the place of a classroom. That was the benefit of a magical school, he supposed. Classroom was a loose term. The room that he walked into definitely was not what one would think of when hearing the word classroom. Indigo glanced around just briefly before his gaze landed on the headmaster. "Morning pr- Headmaster." He was never sure what to call the man in this sort of instance. He was their professor but he was still the headmaster.

Indigo glanced around, and quickly made his way over to Vita. He silently greeted her with a soft shoulder bump as he came to stand by her. Once he was solidly in place he looked around the room again. But, to be honest, he probably shouldn't have. It was making him feel sort of claustrophobic.

DADA, this class intimidated her. She liked it and it was interesting, but she was intimidated. Chloe wanted to prove herself and wanted to show she was a good witch so giving up wasn't an option. Here she was ready to learn, but when she walked in she stopped and looked around.

"Wooooh I know we are crazy teenagers Headmaster, but has it really come to us being put in a padded room?" She was joking of course and smiling, "This is super cool, can't wait to see what we are learning today." She half wondered if she jumped up and down would the cushion be bouncy or not.

With the room seeming like half something you would find at St. Mungos and half something you would find at a muggle trampoline park, there had to be something good to go along with it.

Valencia smiled and greeted the Professor as she made her way into the... very padded room. She bounced a little, testing out the floor. She frowned slightly as she stood in an empty spot. Were they going to do some petrification exercises today?

Avalon could definitely admit that Hogwarts was something special. After the first two bizarre lessons that included a talking boot and tiny animated elephants, she wasn't even surprised when she entered the padded classroom for her first DADA class. She had been worried about this subject over the summer, but now that the time was finally here, Avalon was excited to get started. So excited, in fact, that she was overcome with the urge to do a few jumps and flips in the padded room. Thankfully, she was able to restrain herself this time. She was only slightly nervous that this class was with the Headmaster.

As she made her way into the room, she decided that a polite greeting was in order for her professor. "Hello, Professor," she said politely, nodding in his direction. "Oh, er, I mean Headmaster! Hello, Headmaster." She smiled sheepishly and glanced at the ground at her mistake in addressing her teacher as Professor rather than Headmaster. Avalon hoped he wouldn't take it personally. She was just so used to addressing all of her other teachers as Professor that she genuinely forgot. Oh well. She hoped they would be learning something interesting today!

Things never really changed at Hogwarts. Not really. Aside from professors and therefore teaching methods, but the basic idea behind DADA stayed the same. Besides that, Stasya rather liked Headmaster Trent’s lessons, as they reminded her of Professor Hirsch’s a bit and that made her feel comfortable. As comfortable as anyone could be when faced with any manner of artificial dark creatures. Hinkypunks, trolls, even the very real red caps from that disastrous lesson with (former) headmaster Scrimgeour. She did enjoy learning how to defend herself, even as she kept up with her dueling practice as well as the innumerable extracurriculars she’d taken on and still not dropped even as she knew people questioned how she could manage it all.

She’d had a bright smile for the headmaster as she passed him on her way into the classroom. “Hello Headmaster Trent,” she greeted him, only afterward noticing how bright the classroom was with all the white. All the white padding, as she’d investigated the walls closer and came to a stop near one. It made her wonder what they’d be studying in the lesson. Obviously they weren’t about to get hurt by their surroundings.

Sebastian quickly made his way into the DADA room. He had been down at the Owlery sending a letter and hadn't realized what time it was. Good thing he was a fast runner!

"Hello, Headmaster. Good to see you," he said giving the man a grin and two thumbs up. He had definitely made it just in time and he knew it. He took a look around at the room and raised an eyebrow. This was really weird but he was sure it was going to be really fun. Anything having to do with extra padding always was!

"Mor-"HA!" was Archer's reaction as she stepped into the padded room. "Who finally went off the deep end?" She was, of course, referring to the room's resemblance to the cliché of a room in a looney bin.

HA!

Probably not the best behavior of prefect, especially in front of the headmaster, but she couldn't help herself. As she saw it, it was sort of his fault for setting the room up like this. Anyway, she was just going to shut up now and stand over here near the back here. You know, just in case the crazy was up at the front.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Was it terribly awful of him that he was really looking forward to this lesson?

He had his reasons, they were entertaining reasons and while he wasn’t quite sure how the students would react, he was ready to get the ball rolling—once 11 rolled in of course. For now, the man contented himself with standing by the door replying to greetings.

Oh merlin he was going to enjoy this. Did he seem like he was in a good mood? Because he was in a good mood. No one had crashed his office with upsetting news yet. All was good.

As he approached the door, the professor was ready to greet as always. "Good morning, Headmaster. I hope you had a good summer." Jackson went in and noticed the lack of seating. Jackson decided to stand a bit towards the side for now, preparing for the inevitable semi-circle they would make around the Headmaster once 11:00 hit.

”Excellent summer, actually!” The man replied with quite a bit of enthusiasm. It had been a good summer, for what it was worth. Sun, sand, beaches, his family and no furry pink things trying to EAT said family. There wasn’t much more he could ask for.

”I trust you had a productive summer?” He understood that summer was meant for forgetting there was such a thing as school but this would be the year of the NEWTs for the boy and that warranted some amount of prep.

”Morning, Swann.” He returned, his tone light as he rocked back onto his heels just once before regaining his stance. There had been some worry surrounding the girl last term. ”Hope everything’s alright now, or getting there at the very least.” The girl had had a few things that she needed to work through. ”Look alive, Firstie.” Names, he would certainly get to learning the little people’s names soon. The first lesson was not when that would be happening. ”We’ve got a whole class ahead of us, you can jog in place if you think you need a bit of a waker upper.” Because falling asleep was not something he’d tolerate and while a yawn was by no means indication of someone’s intent to fall asleep then and there, yawns were contagious little buggers. He’d have a sleeping epidemic in no time and how would they stay alive during the lesson if they were sleeping? Important questions.

This was one of the lessons that was mostly hands on and she loved it.

"Good morning, Headmaster." She greeted the man with a warm smile. Moving more into the room, Rylee found a spot to stand and wait for the lesson to begin, bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet.

See, see this one looked more ready for the lesson ahead. Not a yawn in sight and a bounce in her step. Would that more of them showed up to class like this….or not. On second thought that might have freaked him out even a little. EVERYONE couldn’t be chipper and that was okay. This one was and earned herself a warm response in turn. ”Morning, Prichard.”

Nevertheless she made her way forward, "Good morning Headmaster.", and stood by herself against the newly renovated and padded walls. Great, looks like some people may go flying today. She thought.

Did it bothered him that this one wasn’t particularly enthused upon entry? Not really. So long as the Hufflepuff came prepared to work and had a good head about her for when the activity rolled around, there was really nothing for him to concern himself about. ”Good morning.” Hopefully she wasn’t a screamer. That sort wouldn’t have too great a time in this lesson.

Stepping into the classroom, Kaiser only needed to look around very briefly for the headmaster, as he found him very close to the door. "Morning," he said, the generic greeting almost automatic by now. Apparently unfazed by the appearance of the classroom, Kaiser sloped off to find a space near the wall that he could stand in, slipping his wand out of his pocket as he went. He was on his guard. Never really off his guard, to be honest. Maybe that was why he got on so well with this class.

That was more like it. It was good seeing the Slytherin back in school robes looking ready for the term ahead. A step up from the disheveled boy he’d run into at the feast. They’d need to keep it this way.

”Morning. Had a stop in with the Healer yet?” While the boy didn’t appear to be dying when he saw him last, you could never be too careful. Better safe than sorry, yeah? That was nearly the basis of everything he was teaching them. It paid to be prepared and stay on top of things.

So used to entering especially this classroom and having a completely unique room greet her, the reaction it got from the Ravenclaw was of curiosity as she took in the surroundings. Nowhere near as detailed and vast as the swamp from last term, though. No, it was a padded room. As for the why, they would find out soon enough.

And there was another student he could count on to show up to class looking in a proper mood. The smile he returned was an easy one. ”Morning Newton.” Yep good mood all around. The look of curiosity plain in the girl’s expression made him all the more ready to begin. He may have been the only one looking forward to this but it didn’t make it any less exciting for the man.

And this one was a hopper. Enthusiasm was enthusiasm, the man supposed and the kid was far less likely to injure himself in this padded room so Malachi simply returned the greeting with a nod. Walking with his walking boot for his ankle he joined his classmates in room 104. But he stopped just inside of the door, "Morning... Headmaster." Noticing all of the padding in the room he suddenly felt heat rising up his neck. Why in the world would the headmaster need a padded room. His palms began to sweat as he slowly walked further into the room joining some of his classmates.

This one...this one didn’t look quite so enthused as his classmates did. In fact the boy almost looked ill after walking into the room and taking a proper look around.

Thankfully the classroom wasn't that difficult to be found since she still needed to get adjust by this castle. Why on earth the staffs did not provide a map for a new student like her? The Hufflepuff should've come with her fellow but somehow she was left behind since she needed to do her morning skin care routine first, hehe. But that's okay, maybe next time Aurora should've asked one of her roomies to wait... if any of them wanted to.

"Good day, Headmaster." She greeted the man while stepping into the classroom. Well, this was a mostly practical class so Aurora wasn't really surprised with the lack of chair and desk presence. She decided to approach her roommate. "Hey, you left without me." She flashed a cheeky grin towards the curly-haired girl.

Oh look, another new student whose name he’d have to work at remembering. Suffice to say Trent couldn’t wait til the point in the term when he was comfortably on a name basis with them all. It’d make taking the register easier and would reduce those “hey you” moments when the name simply wasn’t coming. ”Good day to you, too.” For now, ambiguous greetings.

He folded his arms over each other while he waited for his classmates to come in and the lesson to start.

Well this was refreshing. Malachi watched the Ravenclaw enter the room, noting the obvious change in disposition from the previous term. ”I like what I’m seeing, Katharos. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come from you.” The boy had always been hardworking and left the man with no doubt he could get his work done but when one walked into a room like THAT, clearly they had something to show everyone else and the man was keen to see it, whatever it was. Okay. She was ready to Defend Against Dark Stuff.

It would seem Katharos had picked up a shadow, another of the little people whose names evaded him. There were quite a few of those, weren’t they? Ellie surveyed the white padded room with no desks and chairs in sight as she went further in. She stopped near her housemate Stella and greeted kindly. "Hi Stella! Do you think we'll be meeting some dark creatures today?"

Oh look, another bright one ripe for learning. It did his heart some marginal amount of good to see the students come in, ready to receive a solid education. Even more amusing? Hearing them make little guesses about what the lesson could possibly entail.

”That’s both a yes and a no.” And he would leave it at that. Yes, Malachi was aware the question hadn’t been posed to him but he was in the best position to give a response so why not?

”Good morning.” He wouldn’t prevent an attempt at sitting. There was still time before the lesson started and it was of no consequence to him that she’d just have to get back up once he began. One downside to the set up of the room was how inviting it came across...which...well it was but wasn’t meant to be. Yet another thing that didn’t really need bringing up this early into the lesson.

Nevertheless, she scooted closer towards where larger groups of blue were to maybe blend in until class started, but far enough away to not invade theirs or her own space with other people.

”Morning.” The pile of nameless students was getting bigger. You’d think at some point he’d whip out the class roster and at least make small attempts to put names to faces but this was probably for the better. The littlest were more prone to crying for their parents. If things got out of hand—as crying would surely have things be—he’d know their names, suddenly he’d be imagining a whole backstory. They’d have a family and ambitions and a lot of stuff he didn’t need playing on his conscience while he was trying to teach a lesson. Nameless Ravenclaw you shall remain, for now.

It made the Slytherin shiver in response as she took another step inside. Her eyes bounced from one end of the room to the other, trying to understand her surroundings before she look for Professor Trent. He never was difficult to find.

She liked that about him. His face was another thing she liked about him. "Good morning, Headmaster Trent," and yes, she smiled. It was quite a rare occurrence that only few were privy to. Their Headmaster was one of the few. She didn't typically greet her Professors with much more than a nod either... But Malachi Trent would always receive Nina Castillo's very best.

But again, the room was still off-putting. Nina was never one to love change and this was no exception. She quickly moved for a corner of the room, wanting to edge away from the center as quickly as possible. She found herself nearest Kaiser, and gave the boy a curious look. He was a very peculiar boy. She liked that about him.

”Looking sharp as ever, Castillo.” He replied. There was always a bit of sunshine in this one--from what he saw anyway--and it was a nice contrast to some who walked in looking like the entire world was coming to an end or they were being sentenced to 47 years hard labour. Granted, his classes did usually require a fair bit of heavy lifting when it wasn’t theory based but he didn’t think it was that bad.

Put some hair on their chest. Figuratively of course.

She was shocked by the padded room… had she walked into St Mungo’s?

… but no. She hadn’t. Her friends were over there and Avery was right behind her. So she was definitely in the right place.

”Morning, Professor Trent.” She said, moving further into the room so she didn’t block the doorway. ”Is this room bouncy??” How cool would that be?

”Morning, Tamesis.”

Was this room bouncy?

”I suppose it could be. I confess I haven’t given it a fair shot. Fairfield over there has some sort of idea but I reckon it couldn’t hurt to try it yourself before we begin.” There would be no bouncing at that point. It would be right down to business.

”Morning, Kowalski!” Enthusiasm was naturally matched with enthusiasm. The boy may have (hopefully been) a reformed criminal but he at least got the work done. He wasn’t one of the ones he had to constantly run behind in order for them to pay attention and that earned him quite a few points. The fact he was enthused when he came to class earned him a few more. ”Hey Mallari.” One of the freshly badged. This one, he wasn’t worried about. This one was responsible. It was nice, knowing you could put even the smallest hint of trust into the people you badged. The set that graduated, he didn’t have anything against. They were a good lot in need of a little push toward accepting that wearing a badge meant being the bad guy sometimes. "Good morning, Professor," he nodded at the Headmaster as he passed, looking for an empty spot to stand. Over by the wall near Kaiser would do. He settled into the space, giving his dorm mate a small smile in greeting, his attention soon drawn to his own grumbling stomach. Hungry already? Hopefully the lesson was interesting enough that it would distract him sufficiently from the fact that it was nearly lunchtime.

”Morning McCarthy.” He’d heard a lot about this one, courtesy of a certain Gryffindor taking remedial classes. Indeed, there was now a set of students that the Headmaster felt he knew entirely too much about thanks to a certain Gryffindor. At least it wasn’t innately horrifying things that would make it impossible to look the boy in the eye ever again.

Hey hello!

Ah and here was Dakest. Malachi turned to the young boy, understanding that sometimes he felt running and certainly a little screaming couldn’t hurt a given situation. Today would be the exact day that something like that would be il-advised and as a responsible adult, he felt he had to caution the boy.

”Morning, Dakest. Ready for the lesson? I need you to scream. Just get it out, right now. Imagine the worst thing that could possibly happen then really let go. Think absolute dooms day. Think ‘we’re all gonna die’ then go for it. Run around a bit too, hit the walls if you must.” Because...ahem….later was not an option.

It was an understanding by now. He wouldn’t be getting much in the way of enthusiasm from this one and that was just how things were going to be. It was fine. The class had a nice enough balance between the particularly chipper and the reluctant participants and everyone in between. Malachi returned the boy’s nod, still waiting and perhaps bracing himself a little for Dakest to begin screaming while there was still time. Any second now?

"Morning, Headmaster!" The enthusiasm was maybe, clearly, obviously forced, but he didn't want to present himself as anything other. It felt like bad manners to him, and the subject was always a fun one, no matter if he did appear dead on his feet.

Shaking himself (more awake, hopefully), Aaron took stock of the room again and just stood somewhere. Near a few Slytherins. Days without desks and chairs in DADA were utterly exhausting, but he was here. Yes, hi.

Malachi raised a brow at this one. It was a strange greeting coming from Botros for the simple fact it was overly superficial and not quite like what Botros usually was. The kid didn’t usually have to force his enthusiasm. Was this more a method of keeping himself awake? The man had caught that yawn as the boy walked in. ”Morning, Botros. You...you alright, son?”

He caught the small fumble, smiling just a little to himself in amusement. The double title did throw students off quite a bit. Usually the man was fine with responding to whichever was offered during the lesson. Around the castle he was the Headmaster but in the Defense setting, he was fine shifting gears to professor mode. It was, afterall, what he was doing by default of teaching the subject.

”Morning, Rousseau.” He opted to draw no attention to the earlier slip up. It didn’t make much of a difference.

The Headmaster cracked a wide grin at this one. "Absolutely, McCarthy. Last ditch effort to save you all from the real deal. I'm glad someone's seen through my little farce of a lesson." Was it bad that he didn't actually consider how this room might have otherwise looked to the students until she said it.

Another to get the titles a bit mixed. Malachi offered an easy smile, truly not bothered. There were worst things the students could be doing. There were worst things he'd both heard and caught the students doing. This was a much easier fix. "Either's fine while we're in the classroom." Little person. Little person #6? Yes, this one could be #6 until he finally got around to learning the names of the new students. Only thing now was remembering that she was meant to be #6. Perhaps assigning them colours would have been easier.

As comfortable as anyone could be when faced with any manner of artificial dark creatures.

"Hello to you, too." He greeted, a welcoming smile in place just seconds before he glanced down at his watch. It was getting to be starting time soon and he was rather ready to begin. Sure there was a lot of ground that would need covering but they'd get to the part he wanted eventually.

He wasn't wrong, there was still a bit of time left before the door was shut and sealed. Whether it was luck or a good bit of athleticism, this one would not be getting locked out today. Good for him. "Hey there." Another glance at his watch. Yep, it was almost time. "Is that a feather...?" He had questions but at the same time he didn't. HA!

Probably not the best behavior of prefect, especially in front of the headmaster, but she couldn't help herself. As she saw it, it was sort of his fault for setting the room up like this. Anyway, she was just going to shut up now and stand over here near the back here. You know, just in case the crazy was up at the front.

Aaaaand it was time.

Malachi drew his wand, lowering it slightly when Calrissian moved through the doorway. Had to say, thanks to the younger McCarthy, this ones reaction was put perfectly into context for him. It DID look like a mental institute in here.

"You." He said with a grin. "Didn't wanna tell you before you got here in case you decided not to show up. Now remember, this is for your own good."

No, but it really was time for the lesson to begin, all jokes aside. Malachi looked around at the students, doing a mental head count. When he was done counting, he flicked his wand in the direction of the door and watched it slam shut as it always did when it was time for the lesson to begin. Anyone that was late would not be getting in at all. He would deal with them later.

"Gather 'round everyone. It's time to begin the lesson. The first thing you'll notice now that the door's closed is how much this room absorbs sounds. It's soundproof, none of anything we do in here will get out. Is there a reason for this? None particularly, outside of getting you all used to a more silent environment. In this lesson, I want you all to find an appreciation for silence and the silent approach to things."

Some may have already gotten the gist of where the lesson was going. Either way, "I have a question. Think about it. All answers are welcome. It's not something you'll find in the textbooks that I hope you didn't tug along with you but rather you'll find the answer in daily experiences or the experiences of others. What are things that can be accomplished silently? Can you name something that requires silence in order to be effectively accomplished or keep you safe?"

He could think of at least a dozen things right off the bat but it would be interesting to see where their brains took them and how widely they were allowing themselves to think.

OOC: The lesson has officially begun and the first question is up! Your character can answer either the first or the second or both questions if they feel so inclined. However you want to play it. I'll be moving this lesson on in roughly 24 hrs from the point of this post barring work getting in the way again. If you haven't joined yet, feel free to say your charrie was here all along...or have them banging on the door begging to be let in. Whatever floats your boat.

All she could think about was sneaking around or attacking someone without giving yourself away now. That's something that has to be accomplished silently, right? Otherwise what was the point. Were they learning to do just that today? Because THAT would be very very useful.

She gave herself a moment to think however, after all that was what the headmaster had advised.

Leaning back against the wall, next to Eiji, the girl rose her hand before she spoke, "Sometimes just choosing silence over someone who is trying to provoke you can work wonders for you. It helps you avoid an unnecessary argument or worse"

Eni jumped at the door slamming, she hadn't been expecting it. She'd been off in her own head. Time to focus. She thought as Headmaster Trent began to welcome everyone.

She liked him, he was straight to the point, but he was also really boring. But it's not like she's trying to be best friends with him..although a good recommendation after graduation would be nice.

Something that requires silence? I could think of quiet a few people....things. She thought to herself.

Raising her hand she waited until called upon and said, "Well sir, when working as an Auror it could be helpful to be very silent during missions, there's also the matter of non-verbal spells to be more obvious, or studying for NEWTs. Anything in the library as well unless you'd like to upset our lovely librarian." Eni chuckled to herself knowing very well the librarian is not so lovely when upset. Whoops.

Besides bouncing lightly on the balls of her feet, Rylee remained calm and quiet. At least until the door slammed shut, signaling the start of the lesson. The bouncing stopped and the fifth year moved closer to gather around as the Headmaster suggested.

Taking one look around the room as she had when she first entered it, it was obvious that something was going to be taking place today. It was clear as day that the room was fully padded but what hadn't been so clear was that the room was also soundproof. Now that was a little more interesting. As was the Headmaster's first question.

Many things could be accomplished silently. Some a little more easily than others, she was sure. There was one thing though that came to mind right away prompting Rylee to raise her hand and answer when it was her turn. "Silence could prove very effective when working with certain creatures. Especially those that might be frightened by noise and might run and hide or lash out in an attempt to harm you because you startled them." Not all creatures handled noise well and the outcome of scaring one could turn out very badly.

Something she'd miss when she left this place was having Indigo by her side during lessons. He provided a comfort and he recieved a grin from the brunette, who nudged him back gently before motioning with her head to the headmaster "Someone seems extra happy today." It was a bit weird, honestly. Made Vita feel like she had to be a bit more alert.

The question was an interesting one and the seventh year could think of so many answers, but she was trying to find one that might apply to this lesson. "Silence is important when you're hiding. Whether it's in a dangerous situation or playing hide and seek, not making noise is important. Don't want to give yourself away."

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy smiled at the Headmaster. "Everything is going well in that department, Headmaster. I have been very busy organising things for when I leave Hogwarts."

At the question about silence, Daisy tried to come up with an answer that hadn't been said already. She raised her hand and spoke, "Silence helps if you are tracking the movements of a dark wizard/witch. You don't want them to hear you because that could be fatal."

SUMMER FOREVER

Lenora was leaning against the wall now, listening intently to what the Headmaster said. Hmm.. silence. She’d never really given it much thought but silence was.. very effective in some situations. Non-verbal spells did require one to be silent.. they helped to create an element of surprise. She gave it some more thought.

”Well.. silence helps one to observe.. doesn’t it? To observe people.. be it their attitude or habits or their reactions..one can gauge people by being silent.” Did that make sense? Lenora wasn’t sure but she gave it a try anyway.

Huh?! "Sin....oh." He was joking with her. She chuckled a little, amused.

And then class started. Well, she could think of a few things that quiet could help. You know, aside from the obvious ones that people were now saying. "Some of you could stand to be a little quieter when you're making out, just saying....." Made rounds a little harder when she had to stop every few minutes to pull people out of broom closets. Not to mention more awkward. Not that she was trying to shame anyone, just giving a blanket heads-up.

The slamming of the door to room 104, indicating the beginning of lesson, no longer startled Hanna. Even though it had only been a year of it, her nerves just expected it. The slam had a good effect on this Ravenclaw, because it meant discovering what the environment the Headmaster had charmed to be was closer to happening, and learning.

Hanna gathered up and indeed had noticed the sound of the Headmaster's voice being absorbed. It was almost unsettling. It absorbed all of the sounds in the room, and nobody outside could hear them. However, it seemed that it was to be in silence, rather than to keep the noise from outside. Hanna listened to the thoughts of silence from her classmates, and raised her hand. "Similarly to those answers, silence is a necessity to allow people, or even animals, to be hyperaware of your environment. Whether you're hunting, or being hunted. By an animal, a bad wizard... or the Law Enforcement if you're a bad wizard. You need silence to be able to really stretch out your hearing. If it's not, you could miss any of the subtle sounds, indicating movements and locations." This was defence against the dark arts, after all.

"Yes, sir," Kaiser said to Trent's question, giving him a nod. "First thing this morning." And he was all healed up and more or less on his way to wellness, thanks to Healer-Professor Beryl.

When Nina arrived and took up a space nearby, Kaiser made sure to send a small smile in her direction, in response to that look she gave him. He liked Nina, and could not for the life of him work out why it seemed that her dormmates had such a problem with her. All of that did make him all the more determined to be a friendly face, though.

Then there was a Gunnar, and he got a smile and a nod in return as he arrived. Kaiser leaned back against the wall right around the moment he heard what he assumed was Gunnar's stomach grumbling. He didn't laugh or anything though, being hungry was no joke. How long was it until lunch time again?

Well, it certainly wasn't now, because that slamming of the door meant class time. Kaiser fidgeted and glanced at the door a few times, unnerved as he always was by the impression he got of being trapped inside the room. Luckily, Trent called the class to attention pretty much immediately, so he could try to focus on him and forget about the door situation as much as he could.

Okay, so, silence. A topic Kaiser had very little trouble with, though he couldn't help but wonder exactly how Kodee was going to cope with it.

Once Trent asked the question, Kaiser's mind went to one particular place, probably because of mountains of personal experience. He raised his hand and, when it was his turn to talk, said simply, "Sneaking." That was it. No further information. No explanation of exactly what context the sneaking was in because that would... probably raise a lot of questions.

”Well.. silence helps one to observe.. doesn’t it? To observe people.. be it their attitude or habits or their reactions..one can gauge people by being silent.” Did that make sense? Lenora wasn’t sure but she gave it a try anyway.
Austin nodded in agreement. He wad going to like this lesson very much if he didn't have to talk.

Austin snorted at this question. She had a point. As for his answer? Everyone else seamed to be saying more or less the same thing. Reading people was a good one. As was sneaking...Austin did say he'd try to speak. And he had an idea too that he wanted to share. So he put his hand up.
"...You need to be silent so you don't wake a sleeping creature that could hurt you." His voice was just loud enough to hear.

Analiese's hand shot in the air immediately when Professor Trent asked the questions. "Silence is useful for observing people, objects and situations. It would help you to understand someone or something's characteristics more." Was that enough? She was saying what was required to read minds (not actually) using psychology.

The young girl snorted as an older student made a remark about being quieter when making out. She did have a point though. It was really awkward when someone was making out loudly and you were a... background person? Especially when it was your sibling.

What’s the rest of your schedule look like today? Maybe we’ve got the same classes.”
Did the Headmaster just say "Hey You!" to her? Aurora wasn't amused, but probably because she was a transferred student so probably he had a difficult time to remember her name. "It's Aurora Chae, sir." The Hufflepuff corrected him.

She couldn't help but grinned at her fellow Puff. It was probably her own fault because Aurora couldn't leave without her morning skin care routine and usually it took like 30 minutes (or more) to do that. "It's okay, I forgive you. I'll tell you the rest of my schedule later after this." Because Headmaster Trent had started the lesson as he slammed the door, goodness. Something that required silence in order to keep herself safe... Aurora raised her hand to answer his question. "When there is a snake." Even the smallest movement could endanger someone if they were face by a poisonous snake.

Padded walls? Okayyy so not gonna lie but Maeve was having some issues with this lesson because while her mama was not in St Mungos for the psychiatric ward, the sixteen year old had walked passed it numerous times to visit her mama. And she was getting some very heavy feelings right now, which was why the blond was unusually quiet this defense lesson.

As the headmaster spoke and introduced the topic, she supposed being quiet was going to be okay too but she really needed to try to take her mind off of St Mungos. For Merlin's Sake, she was going to be OF-AGE in six months; she didn't need to start heaving and sobbing like a baby in the middle of a lesson.

At least the Hufflepuff Prefect could take her mind off things, in which Maeve definitely grinned at that answer. BUT EXCUSE YOU, ARCHER, she was NOT loud when making out. Or actually she hadn't any idea how loud she was given that she was rather preoccupied and not really paying attention to how much noise she was making.

Her thoughts flitted over to her aunt in that moment as she heard others talking about tracking and she recalled two summers ago her expedition to Egypt. "Cursebreaking and runes require concentration .... or well, anything that requires concentration, really." She recalls her aunt shushing her when she had a million questions.

Sardines ♥ // Nomsy, yo

Anna liked this guy already. Sure, his speech at the Start of Term feast might have been a little scary, but he seemed cool. His class already seemed cool.

And the question! That was easy. She didn’t even need to think about what she read in advance because he said all answers were welcome and not everything could be found in a textbook. Anna raised her hand. “When you get up after your parents went to bed, you have to be silent or they’ll catch you stealing cookies from the kitchen.” Which was serious business, whether it sounded that way or not.
