Considering the recent events and current state of the environment surrounding Hogwarts, Piers made last minute changes to his lesson plan... Meaning he changed it completely. The students were full of anxiety, everyone was on edge and everything was just plain SAD, damp, and depressing. Piers himself was starting to feel the effects of the mist sink into his bones. It was cold. He was tired.
So, the Charms Classroom today looked a little different.
When you walk through the doors, you’ll find nothing that resembles the charms classroom, but... a green field of grass that seems to extend forever. There are wild flower dotting the landscape, as well as a few, tall, bushy trees that offer a few patches of shade from something that no one in the castle has seen in a while - sun.
That’s right. Sun.
High up in the “sky” above them, a bright yellow orb sits and shines warmth down onto the ground. If one pays close enough attention, they’ll notice that it’s not the REAL sun. It’s warm, but it doesn’t quite warm you all the way to your bones. Nothing but the real sun could do that. But since no one had seen the real sun in months, the artificial sun would do just fine.
In an area with particularly squishy grass, Piers stood with an empty chalkboard beside him, waiting for the students to arrive and take a seat on the grass.
................Oookay... huh. Meditation for a lesson - that wasn't led by professor O'Hara... but then again, Anna herself couldn't imagine that woman guiding a chilled out meditation at all. Not really.
Anna wasn't sure if she loved the idea, but she could go with it. Since she was sitting by Stas, who was lying down, the sixth year decided to join her co-prefect and also lie down. "This is nice." She said partly to Stas, partly to herself as she placed her hands under her head and looked up at the sky.
Now, she couldn't guarantee she'd keep her mind clear - that sounded impossible, to be honest - but she could definitely think of a happy place. Where they were was a pretty nice place, so Anna didn't bother to think of anything else. She'd take in her actual magical surrounding, enjoying the fake sun, the grass and her classmates around her. She took a deep breath in and slowly let it out.
Not bad. Though it wasn't enough for her to stop thinking about Kam and the Ravenclaw kid lost out there. Sigh.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Meditation. It was something that had become natural to him. Ever since his second year when his Head of House and the Head Girl at the time had adviced him to meditate in order to control his thoughts and emotions, he had been meditating nearly each day. He'd want to say daily but that would be a lie. Sometimes he forgot, sometimes like in his O.W.L year he simply did not have the time or he just fell asleep.
He lowered himself down on to the grass and sat crossed legged before he rested his arms on his legs and faced his palms upright. His back was straight and he breathed in deeply, held it for a couple of seconds before breathing out deeply again. A technique that he had read in the book about meditation that the previous arithmancy professor had lend him before. A book, he realised, he STILL needed to return!
He stirred in his seat a little bit but tried to focus on his breathing. He had already promised professor Stewart he would give the book to her and she'd give it back during the holiday so why was he freaking out about this now? Another deep breath in and out and he closed his eyes.
He could feel the warmth of the fake sun on his face and for a moment he didn't want to think about his personal problems nor that the school was in danger and that they had to evacuate sooner or later or the fact that two students were still missing in the mist. Presumably dead already, lets be realistic here. For now, he'd simply relax.
Rosie can't help but remember her pet cat at home. She wanted to bring her to Hogwarts but her mother refused her because Rosie might not be able to handle it that well, with school and homework that is. But she really believes she can. Although with the ongoing mist around the school, her mother was right for not letting her bring her cat. Cats tend to explore or walk into somewhere, what if Rosie had brought her and she made her way into the mist? That's not good at all. Rosie blinks back into reality when the professor was demonstrating some sort of like yoga position.
Wait.... They're meditating for today? Rosie's eyes blink some more. Well now, that is unexpected. She doesn't know anything about meditating. Her idea of stress relief is baking and that's pretty much it. Guess there is a first time for everything.
She followed the professor's sitting position, inhaled and as she closed her eyes, she imagined herself being back home and just enjoying the little things. Sitting in her front porch or walking around the backyard with her cat. Not only that but she recalls being able to talk with her mom while they both bake or read a book.

The fourth year moved her eyes around the classroom out of paranoia. Just to check. No one had been staring at her right? ......... And that's when she noticed the way the Prefect was smirking, it was rather difficult to miss seeing as she wasn't doing much to hide it. Nina instantly knew. Archer hadn't ever made her distaste unknown, Nina still remembered the Arithmancy lesson from early in the term. The direct 'call-out'. It had been the first and last time she chose to speak up in Arithmancy.
Again, she felt very small as Professor Fuller-Thompson continued calling on students and responding to their answers. Everyone's obsession with Quidditch was rather dramatic, in Nina's opinion but she kept a neutral expression on her face in hopes of not being called out again for her behavior. But soon enough their Professor began to address the class again and Nina drew her attention to the front of the room.
..... They weren't learning a new spell? Nina couldn't help the way her eyebrows pulled together as she stared forward in shock. What was the point of a lesson if they weren't learning? ... Um? What was even more surprising was Professor Fuller-Thompson's explanation. They weren't learning because they would be... Meditating? Nina didn't need guided meditations in class! She did yoga every night before bed. School was for learning.
She would NOT be laying down on the grass, either. Nor would she be crossing her legs as it would be a horrible thing to do whilst wearing a skirt. And so instead, she shifted her legs so that she was sitting with them folded underneath her. There. And closed her eyes.

What couldn’t she live without? Right now, there were several things going through Stasya’s head, even as she had sat up when the lesson had officially begun. The professor hadn’t necessarily faulted her for the moment of relaxation, but she’d still felt the need to it up as a form of respect. Even if otherwise she had just remained quiet, thinking about her answer to the question. Family, friends…creatures. It wasn’t any one thing she could mention, and besides, the basic idea had been said already. Pets had been, anyhow, although her own connection went beyond just her pets. It went beyond Dobby, Albus, Raisa, Lyuba…tiny little Winky who was the newest addition to her little menagerie. She needed Cygnus and the other winged horses in the barns. All the others who lived there. There had been a reason why she’d been determined to protect the barns from the inferi attack before, and the fact she wasn’t entirely certain the creatures had all been evacuated safely was bothering her more than she liked to admit.
And then they were released from the knowledge they’d be working on a new charm by the announcement they’d be meditating. On the one hand, she was able to lay back in the grass again, which she agreed with what Anna had said to her earlier about being nice, but she knew it wasn’t going to be that easy to relax. Still, she’d try…Closing her eyes, she thought about the barns. The sounds of all the creatures, hanging out in Cygnus’ stall with her puffskein rooting round in the hay at her feet and her squirrel climbing the rafters like she’d done so many times over the past years at Hogwarts. No mist in sight…

They were meditating?
Lucas...... was confused. This had absolutely nothing to do with Charms. Nothing. He couldn't find a connection even if he tried. And didn't you have to be really good at yoga to meditate? Well, he didn't know. Meditation wasn't something he'd ever thought of trying, no matter how stressed or anxious he was feeling. Internal screaming was more his thing.
But then Fuller-Thompson mentioned something that made the third year's views change entirely. Quiet. You needed quiet for this.
Oh, he was going to be so good at this.
Since he was given the choice, the Gryffindor chose to lay down on this, uh, grass? Fake grass? Whatever it was, he was laying down, his eyes closed and his hands resting on the ground next to his body. Now, his happy place. This was a bit more difficult. His mind immediately went to his home, because that's where he was happy. Around his family. But his mind started wandering to faces and memories and........
......... he tensed.
No. No no.
Lucas physically shook his head, trying to force his brain to think of something else. Maybe home wasn't the answer here. Maybe...... oh! His favourite hangout? The top of the Astronomy Tower on a clear night where there were nothing but stars. And it was a little bit chilly but that was okay because he had some hot chocolate with him this time.
But then there were other images coming to his head. Images of a face that took some of his hot chocolate but that was okay. And they had disturbed his peace but that was also okay because he liked that. It wasn't long before his heart started beating wildly and, in the quiet, he could almost hear it over everything else.
Well. This seemed like the easiest thing ever to do. The grass was much too itchy to lay on, so Austin decided sitting was best. He took a breath and let it out, as he tried his best to relax. The professor said to focus on something in your mind. Well, Austin had a difficult time thinking of anything so the best he could do was count. So, he closed his eyes and focoused on counting, as high as he could go.

Meditation certainly wasn't something she'd expected to be doing during class time, but she wasn't going to pass up the chance to relax. She hadn't been doing much of that lately. She honestly wasn't sure how capable she was of doing that now, but she'd try.
Finding a comfortable seated position, the seventh year allowed her arms to relax, hands resting on her legs, shoulders lowered. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Her happy place. Her happy place. She needed to think of her happy place and just like that, she saw a clear image in her head. It wasn't somewhere, but someone, and it did help to see his face in her mind.
Gunnar certainly wasn't one to meditate on a regular basis, and he wasn't exactly eager to do it now, but this false sun and pretend meadow made relaxing all too enticing. Laying back in the grass he tucked his arms under his head and closed his eyes beneath the sunglasses perched on his face.
At the current moment, his happy place seemed to be flying through the sky on his broom, beater bat in hand, and a warm breeze whipped through his hair. As relaxed as he was and focused on something he hadn't done in what felt like forever, the Slytherin began to fall asleep.

This was actually the BEST class for Nettie and her current headspace. She'd felt so...BLAH after all of this mist nonsense. She hadn't been engaging her hobbies, instead pouring herself in to reading and cuddling with Rudy. Even her poor kitty had been getting antsy, staying in the castle and being crated when Nettie wasn't around. She hated to do it, but she didn't trust him not to wander off looking for mice and accidentally end up in the mist.
This relaxing classroom, along with the practice of meditation, was JUST what she needed. She knew it was all synthetic, but it was so nice to be out in the fresh air, with the sunshine. No impending death-mist outside creeping in on them. She laid down, sighing happily and laying her arms down, palms facing up in a relaxed position.
She thought of the music room, playing her cello...and the art room, painting on her canvas...without a care in the world. Things were simple. THAT was her happy place...
She opened an eye and peeked at Gunnar, who was laying next to her a few feet away. He was wearing sunglasses but...the parts of his face not hidden under his shades looked almost TOO relaxed...she couldn't help herself. She smirked and grabbed a handful of grass in her hand, throwing it at his face before closing her eyes and facing back up to the clear blue sky innocently once more.

Austin glanced at Nin and saw that she was seeming to not try and relax. Really? He rolled his eyes. With him being quiet most of the time, he noticed that she was not happy with ANYTHING at school. He sighed and closed his eyes again. Breeeaaaathe. He took a breath and started counting again in his head.

They were....meditating?
Not that it was against it. It was just different. Drewett had never had a class where they were told to sit back (in this case, lie back down) and relax. Literally relax. But it wasn't the unwelcomed kind of different. In fact, the Ravenclaw felt that he might actually need some kind of unwinding especially with the mist. He had been ready for a lesson and he came fully prepared to be intellectually challenged, but with OWLs, he had never came to realize that he was also starting to feel drained.
Following the professor's instructions, the fifth year decided to lie down on the grass and tried to make himself comfortable. He placed his hands on the ground beside him and closed his eyes.
His happy place? Drewett hadn't really thought of anywhere specific until he had to think of one now. But he'd settled for the nice spot on the grass, under a big tree, back at home with the Gunters. Overlooking the lake. He'd like to take Evan there sometime, maybe during the summer. But that was it, the peace and quiet with no sounds surrounding him but the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the calming sound from the water nearby. Home.
Inhale. Exhale. He tried his very best not to fall asleep on the spot. It was difficult, but his desire to not get detention was enough to keep him from slipping into sleepsville.

The last couple months had been rough for Maeve. From missing her best friend to be the very top of the list so not going to lie but it felt good for Professor Fuller-Thompson to introduce today's lesson as being a chill lesson. She wasn't sure she had the brainpower for much more.
What couldn't she live without? Proper nutrition? Even if it was something that sadly was lacking these days. Her mind flicked over to the beach and her cottage at Cornwall... that was something she was definitely itching to get back to. There was something about the sunshine which she missed tremendously. Kamryn, of course she missed. But were any of these things truly things she couldn't live without? Chase Spenley? Snogs? Yes her heart ached thinking of never having these things again but without any of life's basic necessities she wouldn't have any of them. Did Kamryn have them? Where was the Hufflepuff?
Her meditation thereby just came to be about all of this... and it wasn't very relaxing. But it also meant risk of falling asleep was minimal since all this worrying she hadn't been sleeping much anyway. It was worse than OWLs - she actually was able to get sleep last year. And she was beyond exhausted.
