There may have been a lot of strange goings on inside the castle as of late, but Hogwarts was first and foremostly still a place of education and Professor Darlington was certainly not about to let anyone get off lightly. Especially considering that today’s lesson had been scheduled for right after lunchtime so no excuses. She hoped everyone had eaten plenty of brain food.
It’s back to basics for this lesson, and the classroom was set out in the traditional way. The only addition were the items that she had neatly placed on each individual desk: a glass goblet, a bread roll (not for eating, you’ve already had lunch!) and an old copy of the Daily Prophet.
While waiting for the students to file in, Joyce sat at her desk and busied herself with the marking of some assignments. Probably not wise because some of the more ridiculous answers were enough to put a dampener on her mood.

She looked at the professor and back at the maze, "That is the problem, I have seen far worse and know how bad things can get when told everything will be fine." Yes it was her first year and she had come a long way but this was giving her anxiety.
She looked around the room and took a deep breath, seeing Dorian glancing over she tried to look braver than she was. She didn't want her house to think she was a full screw up.
So hurrying into the maze before she could change her mind she got ready for whatever was there.

Indigo had been expecting something in front of him, not behind him. So he hadn't really been thinking that he should listen for something coming from behind. As a result, he didn't hear the footsteps until the suit of armor was almost upon him. But eventually he did hear something, and he whirled around to come face to face with his would be attacker. Wand out, he tried to remember which of the three spells would work on the suit of armor. If it was a typical suit of armor he would have some trouble, but this one was made of glass, which meant he just needed to perform the spell to revert it back to sand. Luckily, he had just done that spell so he knew exactly what to do. "Prima forma sabulo." He made a counterclockwise motion in the air and ended with a point at the suit of armour to revert it to sand.

Oh, well, he supposed that made sense. So the Hufflepuff found himself nodding lightly at Professor Darlington's words and then glanced over at Chloe when the woman suggested he help. Though he really wasn't so sure how much help he could be considering his struggles with this subject, but still he easily turned towards the younger girl and offered a warm smile. "Let's work together, yeah?" twirls his fwooper core wand between his fingers before pointing it again at the roll on his desk to give the spell a proper goal. Though...what was he supposed to picture as the original image? A pile of flour? The actual wheat? Did it matter?
Practice seemed to WHIZ by and before Derf had really accomplished ANYTHING...they were on to a maze activity...and he was going to stick close to the little Ravenclaw, THAT was for sure.
"We'll go through it together," he assured her, even slipping one of his calloused hands around her small dainty seeker one. "Wands out and let's go." Takes a few confident steps forward with her...cause...you know...fake it until you make it.

Tina continued on the path, walking with a sense of purpose... not dawdling but not too fast to notice her surroundings. She slowed her pace a bit as she saw what looked like a weird glare up ahead. The dark-haired Ravenclaw brandished her wand, imagining the glass window dissolving into a mound of sand, just like the goblet in the classroom... white sand, not the brownish-beige stuff she'd produced the first time. When she had the vision clear in her mind. she made an anticlockwise circle with her wand and pointed it at the window. "Prima Forma Sabulo!"
Her eyes remained glued to the glass. Had it worked?

In Valencia's opinion, this Prima Forma spell was the most fun and interesting thing she'd learned in awhile. Of course, she wasn't sure how practical it would be in her life -- she didn't need the original form of anything as far as she knew, but it was certainly cool.
After practicing, she grabbed her wand and headed in to the maze along with everyone else.

Another maze? Why did Nettie feel like she was always doing some sort of obstacle course or maze thing in lessons lately? While the potions quiz hadn't been a MAZE per say it had been a bit of a struggle, especially with those boils. YUCK.
Grabbing her wand, she took a deep breath and headed in to the maze. Time to check out some of these obstacles and see if her practicing had actually done her some good...

The suit of armour loomed over the boy and unsheathed its sword, ready to attack.
Before it had the chance however, the spell hit and where the armour once stood, was now a large heap of sand.
Well done. You’ll have to climb over the mound of sand but you don’t have far to go.

Your journey through the maze so far has been clear…..
Perhaps luck is on your side……?
Your luck has run out because lurking in wait for you behind the next corner is the biggest obstacle of the lot….
Think giant animated gingerbread man…. Except made from freshly baked delicious smelling bread dough…. He’s seven foot tall and he’s coming straight for you, doughy arms outstretched.
Good job there’s two of you tackling this obstacle.

The glass spikes reverted back to sand which filled the narrow pathway.
It’s growing darker still……
Which way next? Make the correct choice and the end could be in sight.

It did work.
The glass barrier vanished and in its place, it rained fine grains of sand.
You’re able to pass without a bump on the head but keep your eyes open…..
Is it just your imagination or are the walls closing in…..?

And speaking of paper origami….
Hopefully you don’t suffer from arachnophobia because there’s an origami spider, the size of a Labrador retriever scuttling straight towards you down the concrete wall.
Let it get close enough and you’ll see it even has paper fangs.

Daisy pointed her illuminated wand in all sorts of directions in order to gauge which direction would be best for her to head in. After thinking about it for a few moments, Daisy decided to venture right.

NETTIE DID NOT DO BUGS.
Not even PAPER ones.
Normally, the sight of anything creepy crawly would make her faint. Obviously, she knew it wasn't REAL, and it was made of paper. What was it going to do? Paper cut her to death? Yet, watching it scuttle along on eight paper legs was still giving her major anxiety. That was definitely the WORST part of bugs. Their legs.
Grabbing her wand and reminding herself that it wasn't real, she focused and turned her wand in an anti-clockwise motion, ending with a point straight at the origami spider as it ran at her. "Prima Forma Sabulo!" she explained. Turn to SAND, evil mutant origami spider!!!

Keeping his hand around Chloe's, Derf lead the way through the maze - sticking right - with that same sort of pseudo confidence. Thing was that Derf wasn't rubbish at the subject, he actually probably understood the theory behind transfiguration loads more than he did Charms...mostly because balancing Transfiguration equations and such was loads of fun and it was really neat to entirely change something from one thing to another, but his confidence was lacking. Majorly. The half boulder dogs barely causing a dink in the inferi playing loudly on repeat as he walked along with Chloe by his side.
"We got this," smiled down at her while giving her hand another squeeze. He wasn't sure what number of encouraging hand squeeze he was on at this point but it was becoming an almost nervous tick as they walked and each turn caused his anticipation for SOMETHING to spike.
And then that something DID happen. A GIANT gingerbread cookie man.
"...woah."
Because, well, that was kind of neat and not the WORST thing that could happen.
"Prima Forma Siligo," reminds her softly before giving the spell a proper go with his own wand. At least...that was what he reckoned it was supposed to be, RIGHT?! Flourishing his wand, Derf directed his spell at one of the gingerbread man's legs in particular. Though it wasn't all THAT much bigger than himself since he was looming over 6 foot himself, he didn't want to just...you know...take the whole thing down or something and deny Chloe the opportunity. "Prima Forma Siligo!"

Chloe had her wand out and squeezed his hand tightly as they headed in the maze. "I've gotten better at not being as scared with magic, I promise I've been working hard to really be a Ravenclaw and stuff." She didn't want Derf to think she was a full dumb little kid. Walking quietly for the rest of the time though she started to relax, maybe this wasn't going to be so bad.
Walking with him, she was just about to open her mouth to talk again when "HOLY KNEEZLES" What was that??? It was so big, her small size made that thing look even bigger. Was that a gingerbread man?
Derf had already said the spell and Chloe knew she needed to say something but her words weren't coming. Finally, she pushed through, "Prima Forma!!!!!" NO, NO, that wasn't right, "Prima Forma Sabulo"
Yes, that was it!
"Maybe if the spell doesn't work we could just go over and bit its legs." It was gingerbread after all. Sorry gingerbread, but this time books lie, as fast as you can you will be eaten if the spell doesn't work gingerbread man.

What are you going to do?
Valencia watched the origami with a slight head tilt. How...
She let out a LOUD SQUEAL.
Okay. This was not fun.
She did her best to concentrate on the fibers that paper was before it was liquefied and pressed. That's right, she'd been to a museum and hand pressed paper before.
She aimed in the general direction of the swarrrrm and rotated her wand in a counter-clockwise circular motion. "Prima Forma Sylva"
Turn to sawdust fibery stuff, evil paper!
... or to pre-paper gloop. That was fine too.

No red sparks to have to go and attend to, that was one positive she supposed. Hopefully that meant the children didn't have too much trouble with the obstacles she had put into place.... she expected them all to be experts at reversion. Yes, she had high expectations for her students.
After having checked her watch however, she noted thirty minutes was up. Had anyone even made it to the center of the maze?
She cast her own reversion spell and the concrete walls dissolved into large piles of sand. "I'm a little disappointed that none of you knew that one of the main components in concrete is sand," she addressed loud enough for everyone to hear. That would've earned brownie points. "But well done to everyone for making it as far as you have done. I'm afraid we must finish there."
With another wave of her wand, the sand was gone and she opened the practice room door for them to make their exit.
"Class dismissed!"

Tina watched as the glass window vanished, and sand rained down everywhere. She stepped back, closing her eyes just in time to avoid a face full of sand, but it got everywhere else... in her hair, on her clothes, all over the path ahead. Ugh, it was going to take forever to get cleaned up! But she'd worry about that later. Now she was on a mission!
Tina's footsteps gritted through the sand scattered on the ground. She continued on the path ahead, brushing the stuff off her as best as she could. Merlin, this stuff was itchy! He eyes scanned the path left, right, and straight ahead for obstacles. There were none to be found, but she was beginning to feel claustrophobic... almost as if the walls were closing in on her. She tried to ignore it and push forward, but the further she went, the more trapped she felt. Come on, shake it off, Tina! she thought. She looked around her surrounding again, and... that wall looked awfully close. She was positive the walls had been further apart when she started. Her heart dropped as she realized what was happening. She wasn't just imaging things! The walls were actually closing in on her!
Tina had to take several deep breaths to calm her rising panic. Okay, Tina, think! she told herself sternly. What options did the have? She could try to outrun the walls, but then she would be moving too fast to pay attention to her surroundings. She'd almost bumped into that glass window earlier. She didn't really want to take a chance on running into something more dangerous. Probably not a good idea... what else could she do? She could try to go back the way she came and find another path. The walls hadn't started closing in until after she passed the glass window, so it stood to reason that if she went back to that point, she'd be out of danger. But then she'd give up half the progress she'd made. That was not happening!
Spells! She needed spells, but which should she use? The first idea that popped into her mind was Arresto Momentum... she could try to slow the walls down and buy herself time to get away. Wait, no! This was transfiguration, not charms! Somehow Tina didn't think it would go over well to use a charm in a transfiguration activity. Maybe she could try to dissolve the walls? Was she even allowed to do that? The walls were mere inches for her now. She had to try it! But what spell should she use? The walls were concrete, and they hadn't learned a version of Prima Forma to dissolve rock! Maybe one of the others could work? Definitely not the wheat spell, not the wood one... Sand, that was it! Tina remembered reading somewhere that sand was one of the components of concrete.
She raised her wand, making the anticlockwise circle and pointed it, but before she could say the incantation... the walls transformed into giant hills of sand, and not just the one where her wand was aimed. All of the walls were gone! HUH?! Had she done that? Her heart sank as Professor Darlington amounted that time was up and mentioned the connection between concrete and sand. Mumbling matagots! She had figured that out, but time ran out before she could cast the spell. Ugh! If only she hadn't spent so long panicking and overthinking, she would've had it... and then maybe she wouldn't have disappointed one of her favorite professors. Still inwardly berating herself, she made her way to the door. "Good day, Professor,"she said with a polite nod toward the woman. "Thank you for the lesson!"
Now all that was left to do was go back to the classroom and collect her bag.
