DADA Lesson 2 - TRrRRRooOOLLLllLLl in the DuuuNGeons It's not quite as early a lesson as you'd usually have with the Headmaster but it's before lunch. Hopefully that breakfast fuel hasn't worn off by now because with two hours to go--one of them to be spent here--Trent will be expecting you all at your best. Did you refresh yourself on the rules? Do you have anything ELSE that's gone wrong around the castle you feel he NEEDS to know about? Feel free not to wait til he's back and comfy in his office. No really, better to rip the bandaid off now. Approaching the door to classroom 104, you'll notice a note that says the location of today's lesson has been changed to the dueling arena. Pick up your step, this notice doesn't make being late suddenly acceptable. Over in the dueling arena, Malachi stands before a table stacked with clubs. Over and over he counts them, SURE he'd had enough but now there seemed to be at least three missing. Circe sake. Was there anything not missing??? He appears only slightly agitated as you make your way into the room but will stop to greet you should you remember your manners and greet him first. This far into the term, he's already explained that while he isn't Scrimgeour, he does expect some form of acknowledgement when coming to his lesson. The dueling arena is bare. All the dummies have been moved to the spare room leaving only the carpet beneath them and this table filled with clubs. Did you do the necessary readings? Have you practiced the spells for homework? They'd come in handy today. The lesson hasn't started yet. Class progression: Greetings and First Question Mini-Activity Second Question Main Activity |
Listen, Zoryn Spinnet was just as surprised as anyone when she found out she had been the first to arrive. Honestly, the Gryffindor almost made her poster wait another five hours before allowing her to make her entrance because she was THAT distraught. Unfortunately (and following a similar theme to many situations this term), the seventh year did not get her way and thus, here she was. Early. Worst day of her life, truly. The Gryffindor made her way into the dueling arena, absolutely NOTshocked by the unusual set-up of the room. She had been desensitized. Only took six and a half terms to do it. Walking past the Headmaster and taking notice of the clubs on the table, the Gryffindor almost sighed. "No dragons today, I reckon," her days here were numbered and the chances of learning about dragons were now slim to none. But the meme must live on, yeah? |
Daisy was thankful that she had left for class a bit earlier than usual because she had spotted the sign on the door of Classroom 104 outlining the change of location. She quickly made her way to the Duelling Arena and as she entered the room, she saw the agitated look on Headmaster Trent's face. "Good morning, Headmaster." Daisy greeted with a smile and polite nod of her head. She had read the necessary text but with the way her mind was at the present moment, she was nervous about how she was going to go in this lesson. |
Duelling area? What now? She rushed to the duelling area, losing her way twice before reached the destination. Panting, she came in and wished the Headmaster :'Good..morning..head..master..'. |
Despite it not being the first lesson of the day, Dorian walked to the dueling arena after seeing the notice while concealing a yawn behind his hand. He had went to bed late in the night for he had been reading his Transfiguration textbook. He wanted ace those OWL exams and was already studying. The downside was that he was a bit less focused during the day. Standing in front of the doorway, Dorian jogged on the spot for a couple of seconds to wake up more before he entered after Kaira who seemed to be in a rush. Heh, first years. "Good day, Headmaster" he greeted politely while trying his best to show that he wasn't tired. "Sup, everyone" he greeted the few others already present in the room as well. |
Well. Having gone to the usual classroom and seen the note, Hanna did a turn around and headed to the duelling arena. It was certainly a skill she needed practice on, was duelling. But the club's... well she wasn't so sure about them. Some sort of troll Quidditch duel? "Hello Headmaster," she greeted the man, in a cheery tone. Yes, this Ravenclaw was excited to get to the lesson. |
Phone post, sorry for any error Gah!! Class was moved and this was all the notice they were getting? Luckily he had a few minutes to spare, or else Jackson would be in trouble. He pivoted from 104's door and headed to the Duelling Arena instead, perhaps a little more of a rush. If he saw any students on their way, he would redirect them as well. Aaand then he was there. Made it!! "Good morning, Headmaster! Er..." he paused, remembering what he had needed to bring up to the man. "The books in the study room all seem to be missing Sir, and there seem to be some pranks going around... like the Prefect bathroom... but I'm not sure who could be doing it..." Was it okay to tell him now since class hadn't started yet?? Jackson hoped so. He wished he could collect fingerprints and stuff like they did on those detective type shows, but they hadn't learned fingerprinting at Hogwarts yet. |
Malachi walks into the dueling area and smiles slightly at the seemingly irked Headmaster. "Good morning headmaster, How has your day been?" Usually Malachi wouldn’t go out of his way to ask the professors or in this case the headmaster personal question but the headmaster seemed like he needed a small pick me up. |
Honestly, it was a good thing Vita was early for nearly everything, because she'd needed the extra time to make her way to the dueling arena, wondering if whatever had been messing about around this school had messed with the classroom, too. The clubs were an interesting sight to see and the sixth year eyed them curiously before her gaze shifted towards the man in charge. "Hello Headmaster." She kept it short and sweet, noting he didn't look like he was in the best of moods, and moved to take her place by the others in the room. |
Patrick had come around the corner ready to enter room 104 when he saw the note. "Are you kidding me? Dude!" With a heavy sigh and a rub to his shoulder that would not stop itching he ran down the halls to the dueling room. He was on time, for him that meant late. He skirted around the corner feeling like a cartoon character. Just as he came to a stop he saw that there were others in the room. He stopped just outside of the door looking at his watch. He had quite a few minutes to spare before he absolutely needed to be in there. He gave himself a few seconds to catch his breath before he moved through the door. He moved further into the room, "uh, goood morning Headmaster? It's still morning I guess." he stated more for his own thoughts than for the Headmaster. He really wanted today to be a good morning he did not need today's class to be bad. |
Well. Abra was certainly glad that he wasn't running on his 'get to class at the very last minute' schedule, or this could have been a disaster. Upon seeing the notice on the door of the usual classroom, he headed for the duelling arena, picking up the pace slightly as he did so. "Good morning, Headmaster Trent," Abra greeted the headmaster almost automatically, it was so ingrained in him to do so. But he couldn't help on picking up on some agitated vibes from the man, which naturally made his own anxiety spike just a little bit, but he still managed a slightly strained, though still friendly smile before he found a space and waited for the lesson to begin. |
The mysterious disappearances being the only thing that’s put Stasya anywhere close to feeling different than her usual self, the notice on the door of the DADA classroom hadn’t disturbed her one bit. Especially since she knew she was perfectly aware of where she was headed and how long it took to get there, she wasn’t too concerned about being late. If anything, she was simply curious what they needed the extra space for, when it was obvious the limitations of the classrooms weren’t immune to charms being placed to provide whatever was needed. Or maybe the events of the term so far were exactly why they needed something besides charms and spells to enlarge the classroom. It was worth the thought, anyway. “Good morning, Headmaster Trent,” she greeted, giving the headmaster a smile that gradually grew a bit concerned at his expression. “Has something else disappeared?” Aside from the couch in the Gryffindor common room, the portrait entrance to the kitchens and all sorts of others she knew about by now. The question of if it was going to affect lessons was important too. |
With his backpack stuffed with two granola bars (because he was a growing boy and brought them back with him from holidays), Chase headed to classroom 104 to only find that class was not going to be held there. He sighed and glanced down at his feet momentarily wondering if the classroom had disappeared as well just like everything else. He picked up his pace as he headed for their new destination. The dueling arena. Though speaking of Hogwarts --- what was going on and where did these mutants come from? Part of him thought that he shouldn't question it anymore. He had attended the school for five years at the point so honestly nothing should have probably surprised him. Just when he thought he was going to have a normal year, BAM something happened and his plan was derailed. Fortunately the Dueling Arena was still here. Phew. No need to sound the alarms. Everything was in order....maybe? He entered the arena and greeted his Headmaster very politely. He still found it odd not seeing Scrimmy glaring at you as you entered the room. Scrim the Grim. Merlin. He should have kept a list with all those nicknames that he came up with for him. "Good morning, Headmaster," he greeted with a curt nod. |
Head Girl in the hoooooouse. Chloe bounced into the classroom and gave the Headmaster a cheery wave. Totally respectful wave, but still a wave. The dueling arena was chilly on this winter morning, but it was obvious they'd be warming up quickly. "Good morning to you, sir. I hope you're well today." And yes, she was ready with her homework spells. |
Valencia headed to class. She opted to keep her robes because of the cold. But she was prepared! She had done the reading, as she always did, much unlike how her parents were when they were in school. Having read the notice, she knew that class wasn't taking place in the normal location. So, she headed straight there. "Hello Professor." she greeted as she made her way in. |
It was official and counting a million more times wouldn't change anything. There were three clubs missing and it would drive the man wild for the entirety of the lesson--until one of the students inevitably distracted him with some questionable response. You never really knew with them these days. SPOILER!!: Replies Malachi glanced down at his watch, double checking it against the clock that hung above the door to the dueling arena. Yep, it was time to get started. With a flick of his wand, the door slammed shut with a click as it did every class when they were ready to begin. Like always, anyone who was late would have the hardest time getting in but by now most had learned that it was better to be on time. "Let me start by saying I hope you all read the chapter I gave for homework and spent some quality time practising the spell. If you haven't, I hope you've got natural talent and an impeccable ability to run and hide and generally not get yourself maimed. I'll accept either." But REALLY he was hoping it was the first option. The second was very sketchy and didn't always offer up a guarantee. The man liked guarantees when it came to the lives of the students he was set in charge of. "Everyone, come up to the table and get yourself a club. While you're doing that, I'd like everyone to give me one scenario in which you would every need to use this muggle instrument. Doesn't necessarily have to be a need per say. You can also give me a scenario in which it could come in handy or could otherwise be convenient. Any reason at all to ever use a club." The man stepped away from the table, giving them enough room to come grab the club of their choice. Even the three duplicated ones would be fine. They'd last well into the lesson and much longer than they were needed. OOC: First question's up and class has officially started! If you post your character arriving after this point, it'll be very difficult for them to get through the door. Of course, you can always RP as if they've been here the entire time! I'll be back to move the lesson again in about 24 - 28 hrs from the point of this post. <3 |
Kaira smiled at the headmaster. It was obvious that he thought of her as lacking in time management. 'Thank you..professor..I'm alright..didn't know the class was going to be here,' she said. Clubs? Well..they were clubs.'Oh..umm..if someone attacks you, you can hit them with it,' she said, grabbing a club. 'Umm..if there is a robber in your house and umm..you need to get him before he gets you..you can hit him on the head with a club..,' she said, remembering particularly memorable scenario of her sister hitting a robber who had broken into their house with a club. 'My sister has done it..,'she added, now feeling slightly stupid. |
Well, at least the seams of her shirt were holding up well against the scratching. She really didn't need a hole in these sleeves, especially since IT started showing up. The 'it' being FUR. Fur that she wasn't supposed to have, since she is a human being, damn it! And she hadn't had time to journey to the hospital wing for it, as she'd, unfortunately, slept through her first couple of classes and woken up with only enough time for a quick shower and gathering of her supplies. Luckily, she'd done all that and made it here on time and so was here for the instructions. Anyway, what could one use a club for....? "Some forms of law enforcement use them as weapons," she answered while she retrieved a club and sat down again. Actually, she was getting another idea. It seemed that along with the random fur patches came weird cravings. Like one for the wooden instrument in her hand. "Or, or, or we could eat them!" she exclaimed before attempting to do just that. Only, the second she bit into it, she ended up with splinters in both her gums and her tongue. And there was some bleeding.... Not a good idea. |

Daisy quickly put her hand down after saying her answer, looking rather embarrassed. |
Had he done his homework and practised the spell? Of course he had. Even with all the other homework, Dorian always made sure that his DADA homework was top priority because it was his worst subject out of all. Although he had improved, he was still lacking trust in himself when it came to this subject. While he waited for class to start, Dorian could not help but overhear the conversation between Jackson and the Headmaster. Curious, the fifteen year old got a few steps closer to listen while pretending to be casually looking around. The books in the study room had vanished? Dorian frowned..... interesting. Walking to the table, the Ravenclaw saw in the corner of his blue eyes that one of the Hufflepuffs was BITING one of the wooden clubs and he turned his head to stare at her before shaking his head in disbelief. Picking up one of the clubs from the table, he inspected it in his hands. "Perhaps you can defend yourself by blocking certain spells?...then again i guess you need to have very good accuracy to know where a spell is aimed at your body so ...." He scratched the top of his head, definitely unsure of his answer. "Nevermind..." Holding the club behind his back, he walked back to his previous spot |
Was the double take necessary? Look, no one was more surprised than Zoryn Spinnet, herself. But let’s make one thing clear, she was going to make sure that this never happened again. Showing up first made her look like an absolute nerd and that’s not something she wanted on her record. Rather be late and lose points than risk her reputation. Especially if the risk included getting tagged as a ‘teacher’s pet’ something she actively was not. Which only made itself more and more evident, as she had not read the chapter assignment. Nor did she practice the spell, but after 6.2 years she was starting to get real good at improvising. So all was well…. Hopefully. The Gryffindor wasted no time walking up to grab herself a club because HOLY COOL. She could kill a man with one of these… Worth trying to sneak away with one at the end of the lesson. As for the question, “could come in handy if you’ve ever gotta get someone to shut up the hard way, give ‘em a deserving whack in the head.” Just saying. That’s what Zoryn would use it for. Speaking of which, did that Hufflepuff girl (Archer) need a whack in the head to bring her to her senses? ‘Cause no offense, but what the hell? Zoryn would be HAPPY to offer her assistance. Pick her Professor!!! She’s got this! |
She couldnt help the wince as the door slammed, honestly, she'd never get used to it. Was it REALLY needed? No... just needed to be over dramatic she supposed... She went up and grabbed a club, "As mentioned before it could be good for wacking someone coming after you." Maybe the fifth year had contemplating trying it on her younger siblings when they refused to listen with the plastic one they had at home... "Perhaps if you don't know a spell to protect yourself or whoever it was managed to get your wand away from you?" Though it might be silly, it was her best guess. |
Vita absently rested her hand just below her neck, checking to see that her necklace was still safely tucked underneath her uniform and around her neck. With all the items that had gone missing, she was keeping the ones she held dear to her nice and close. As for the headmaster's question... "Nothing to report yet, Sir. Hoping it stays that way." The sixth year didn't particularly like the idea of everyone having clubs in class, particularly because that Zoryn girl looked and sounded all too eager to use hers, but she picked one out of the bunch and observed it as those around her answered the question at hand. How could you put this...tool to use? Hm. "I suppose you could use it to break into places, or out, depending. It'd be particularly useful for breaking glass. That's if you couldn't use your magic, though." If you had a wand instead, why wouldn't you just use that? |
He nodded at the Headmaster's greeting, once again pleasantly surprised by how this new Headmaster was much different from Scrimmy. He had been half expecting to hear an earful about how he shouldn't speak unless spoken to but was glad when the Headmaster didn't. He watched a few other students pour into the classroom after him and then the lesson began. Yes, Chase had done his homework and required reading. He had even read the chapter twice to better prepare himself for the lesson. His personal goals with OWLS looming over his head was to make sure that he was on top of his game when it came to studying. Though he hadn't been expecting the Headmaster to ask them to come up and select a club. Hmm... He wondered what the Headmaster would want them to do with it... Hopefully not swing and hit something... As the Headmaster asked for reasons on why they would need this muggle instrument, he paused and waited, listening to his peers' feedback. His jaw dropped when he saw a Hufflepuff girl bite the club. He blinked at her, utterly confused by her actions. Was this the affect of Hufflepuff's not being able to go into the Kitchen? Would Hufflepuffs just start eating everything around them... Then again maybe that's why things were disappearing... He sorely doubted that his thought was factual but it was a fun fantasy to imagine. Heh. Now back to the question at hand... Yes, you could hit things and people with it if you'd like too... He made a note not to upset Zoryn for fear of her swinging a club in the air and hitting him with a club. "If it was long enough, you could probably use it as a walking stick to help balance yourself. Or if it was wide enough, you could probably use like a hammer with enough force...?" Yes, he was a little bit out there with the suggestions but maybe that'd work? |
As a matter of fact, Chloe was NOT feeling better, and she gave the Headmaster a skeptical look. Why was he even bringing it up? Chloe began to itch her arms again, which was annoying because she'd finally managed to forget about the itch. "No, sir, I don't need any potions. It's feeling much better." She scratched at her arms before pinning them hard against her chest in a sort of self hug. "Clubs, right? We can use clubs to open very hard to open pickle jars. And to reach that itchy spot on your back that you can't reach with just your hands." She retrieved a club and returned to her spot on the carpet, waiting for the rest of her classmates to prepare themselves for the next part of the lesson. Absently, Chloe gave the club a lick. Ew. Metallic. She licked it again. |
Quote:
Hanna listened to the start of the lesson and did as instructed by getting herself a club. She pondered the question at hand. She listened to the answers around her and thought perhaps... well it might not work at all, but... that one story with the pink umbrella. She raised her hand. "If someone was so curious, could they incorporate their wand into the club, and turn the club into a magical device?" |
SPOILER!!: Replies "Moving on!" Away from certain people's thoughts of smacking others silly. He'd be a proper questionable Headmaster if he allowed that sort of thing, but he would allow some hitting...in a minute. "Based on the reading, I'm sure you're all aware that today's lesson will be on trolls. They usually have their own sorts of clubs and they vary in intelligence and type but we'll get into that in a minute." This wasn't the time for recap. That would come when it absolutely needed to just to keep it fresh in their minds. "Today, you all have your own clubs. You will use these to get rid of a little problem that we're about to have." With a flick of his wand, a side door within the dueling arena swung open and little trolls began marching...marching...hobbling...stumbling--they were moving and doing the best they could, okay?? They were making their way from the room in droves. "You'll have to use your clubs to hit them. Hit them as hard as you can. Don't hold back. No worries about hurting them, they're simply a manifestation of magic. Don't hit them hard enough and you'll see why they're a problem." They came equipped with their own clubs and while they didn't posses the same strength as a real troll, or the size being only knee high, those clubs did hurt a bit. Not enough to break bones, but just enough to make you not wanna get hit a second time if you were unfortunate enough the first time. "Begin." The trolls poured into the room, dull eyed and ready to begin swinging. Some where already swinging, some were picking their noses. The cluster of them moved toward the students with grunts. They were ready to whack and smack as was the nature put into them Were the students ready? OOC: Mini activity tiiiime! Like was mentioned, have your students swinging and smacking the mini-trolls. Imagine whack-a-mole but with moving targets that swing back and do hurt a bit. I'll post with little prompts for you guys to have trolls as often as I can and you all will have about 60 - 72 hrs to whack as many of them as you can. Or not. Whatever works for you and your charrie ^^ |
Okaaaaaay, that was a fair point. Safely and fortunately for Laila, it had worked. 'Well..I agree with you..it could have gone either way..luckily for her, he didn't notice her get up, so she sneaked behind him in the dark and hit him on the head, knocking him out,' she said, shrugging. Oh wow! What now? Trolls??? As she started attacking the lot with her club, one of them hit her on the back. 'OUCH!!!!,' she yelled, and she proceeded to hit that little one on the head with a club. DIIIINGG!!!!! She felt something on the top of her head. Uh-oh, she had got hit on the head. She felt everything blacking out.Her vision was blurring out. She fell to the floor with a loud thud. |
Daisy firmly gripped her club like a Beater's Bat and waited for the mini-trolls to advance towards her. Just as she was about to administer her first strike, she heard a loud thud near her and saw Laila, the young Ravenclaw lying on the floor. She rushed over to her but not before firmly whacking two trolls and ducking to miss another one. Daisy couldn't really do anything for Laila so she got back up and gave Headmaster Trent a concerned look. This lapse of concentration earned Daisy a whack on the leg which made her swing her club with anger. |
Holding the club behind his back, Dorian nodded his head as the Headmaster spoke. He agreed that his answer had been lacking. He also made a mental note to stay away from Zoryn during the lesson cause of her answer. He didn't doubt she would *accidentally* hit someone with a club under the pretense that she had been aiming at something else. It looked like the thing she would do in his mind so yup...he moved to the other side of the room. Unfortunately for him, the side that he had chosen happened to be the side where the Headmaster pulled open a door and he shrieked when the little trolls came rushing in. NOPE! The Ravenclaw changed direction and hastily walked to the back. Could he hide behind someone ....yes |
Was anyone else giggling? She looked around but didn't care if they were, those trolls made her giggle and she was going to giggle. Her hand was up at her mouth to try to muffle it though. They were kind of cute as well, but the third year was ready to hit them. She knew they weren't real so it wouldn't hurt and she had some third-year aggression she was ready to get out. When it was time to start she moved towards one and took a good wack at it. The magical object didn't seem to like it and took a swing, but she had jumped away in time. Wow did they seem real, but thankfully they weren't or Chloe probably would have been knocked out by one of their clubs. The club was different than a beaters bat, but still, she gripped it like she did in that tryout and went after her next one. This time trying to sneak up on it better. Tiptoeing behind it she raised her club and took another swing. |
Let's not hit any of our classmates today, no matter how deserving and how desperately we need them to be quiet or how undesirable their behaviour may be. Blah, blah, blah. Zoryn would make no promises. But there wasn't much time to dwell on what she would or would not do because no sooner had Trent finished his speech that Trolls began making their way around the dueling arena. And y'know what Zoryn had to say about all of this? "BRING. IT. ON!" Because here's the thing. Clubs? They were pretty much a beater's bat. And you know what Zoryn was? She was a beater. A pretty good one, at that. Very aggressive. Super abrasive. So this activity was right up her alley. The seventh year didn't waste a moments time before chasing after trolls and WHACKING them on the head as hard as her Quidditch strength allowed her to. TAKE THAT. She'd just pretend that they were all Anna Meriwether. Easy. |
It was official: This was the BEST LESSON EVERRRRRRR. Józef couldn't quite believe his luck. Whilst not a beater, he still enjoyed wacking a few bludgers in training and getting to hit little magically-created trolls as part of a lesson?! Well, his grudge against Headmaster Trent was starting to lessen. Just a little, though - he'd officially be annoyed until Gryffindor were top of the Quidditch table. Weighing the club in his hand for a moment before tightening his grip, Jó weaved through students toward the oncoming trolls. He was READY. And they were the perfect height for hitting on the head. "YES." He exclaimed the first time his bat made contact, followed soon by a very angry "OW!" as another trolls club smacked into his ankle. |
Wait, what? Vita felt her face grow hot. Of course she didn't know about using a club to break in from experience. "Sir, I wouldn't-it was only an example, I promise." As for the hourglasses, she had nothing to do with that, either. Yikes. Happy to do anything other than answer questions that gave the headmaster of all people the wrong idea about her, the sixth year raised her wooden club and headed towards the first couple little trolls she could reach. This was an excellent way to pass the time as far as she was concerned and she whacked at the first troll with all her might, following up with a sweeping hit towards the second. |
Quote:
A small swarm appeared. He didn’t know how Parker managed to get hit in the head by something up to her knee and unable to jump but somehow the First Year had and somehow she was now on the floor with trolls gathering round. Malachi grimaced at the sight, unsure what aspect he was more unimpressed with considering the trolls didn’t hit nearly hard enough to knock a person unconscious—but she was on the ground and in for quite the knocking about if she stayed there so grabbing his own club, the man gave each troll that appeared a firm whack to the head. Each disappeared with a poof. The Headmaster got down on one knee and nudged the girl firmly but carefully. “On your feet, Parker. Come on, shake it off.” Did she have some pre-existing head condition? That would’ve been nice to have on file somewhere. It was the only explanation. These trolls didn’t have the capacity to knock a person out—or the height for that matter. Bruised knees were a more present danger. Either way, there were more trolls coming so she needed to regain her footing and get her club ready. Quote:
This troll had barely swung his club when the knock from the Hufflepuff’s club caused it to disappear into a puff on smoke. It’s like it was never there. She shouldn’t get comfortable though, three more headed her way, each violently waving their bats about. Quote:
Whatchu gonna do, son? Quote:
Did she notice the one sneaking up behind her while she was sneaking up behind its friend? It very much existed and very much swung at the back of her legs. Quote:
OKAY! The girl’s yell had earned her the attention of quite a few trolls. Noises. Always go toward the noises. But this was weird. She was chasing THEM! Two poofed into clouds of smoke under the swing of her club but they wouldn’t surrender! They could not surrender! Three trolls ran at her head on, each swinging wildly while they did. This was waaarrr! Quote:
Quote:
The troll disappeared with a poof but the second caught on in a split second and raised its own club to defend it. Bouncing from impact, it slammed its club by her feet, hoping to get at least one of them. The third jumped to action too, swinging wildly in her direction. This was for having no respect for the boogers! |
Of course it was a hectic class why wouldn’t it be? Every time Patrick stepped foot in this classroom they were either running down a lake or they were chasing trolls he was so ready to not have a “hectic” class. Sighing he moved further in the room after taking a few deep breaths to calm his breathing. He would have contributed to the answers on using a club but all of his thoughts were muggle based and he was fairly certain that he wouldn’t have to strike invaders any time soon. Instead he listened to the other students answers. Once he heard what they were doing he felt his day go straight down the drain. Now he would have to hit trolls. At least he knew he could connect. But he was slightly worried he might hurt them. Taking a deep breath he grabbed the club like he would a baseball bat. Raising it up he watched as the “mini trolls” entered the room and began to take swings at the ones coming near him. He made contact with two and felt a small smile grace his face at his success. |

They would be using the clubs like hammers? Chase paused, tilting his head to the left a little wondering what he had meant. He stayed silent instead of asking another question. Yes, trolls was the subject. Interesting. And then the Headmaster explained that they would be using the clubs against the tiny trolls that were moving rather roughly throughout the classroom. Chase gripped the club in his hand a little tighter before loosening his grip a little as if he was holding a baseball bat. He took a few practice swings before waiting for a troll to come near him. As he waited, he glanced around him, searching for the nearest troll. AH. Gotcha! He thought as he swung his club towards the nearest charging troll. Then he readied himself for another attack. Must. Stay. Alert. |
Valencia chewed her lip and moved the club between her hands a little awkwardly. Um. Sorry. What? She was supposed to hit those creatures with a weapon. The first year was really uncomfortable with that. She continued chewing her lip. Really? Some of them were picking their nose. How much harm could that really cause? There was a silent meep when one approached her. She swung the bat tentatively toward the arm of the mini!troll. |
Quote:
As the theory turned practical, Hanna jumped up in time to see the little trolls coming in. They appeared very uncoordinated, and almost humorous, if it weren't for them swinging their clubs around. Uncoordinated and small aside, it would obviously hurt to be struck by one. Still holding onto the club she had picked up, she stood and looked around her. There were lots of the little buggers. She had her bat resting on her shoulder as she headed towards one of them. Swinging the bat, she took a cracking swing at it to bop it. Beating practice, though she wasn't a beater, was dead useful. |
The question of uses for a club hadn’t been lost on Stasya, but she’d stayed quiet nonetheless. Besides using it as a sort of base for a torch, she honestly didn’t see herself using a club in any way at all. Even if she did collect one when they’d been instructed to, and of course she’d done the reading for the lesson. She might’ve been curled up in Cygnus’ stall at the time, but she’d done it. She completely understood the troll connection too. Trolls used clubs, but then usually they were a lot larger than even someone her height so the lesson had to be mostly hypothetical. Or it involved mini!trolls, which she nearly found adorable. Minus the little clubs that obviously were meant to hurt them. The announcement that they were manifestations of magic hardly surprised her either. It was like the fake!hinkypunks, which were way different from them being forced to face actual real life red caps. In a way, she was reminded of Professor Hirsch’s lessons, aside from the fact they weren’t using magic against the magic!mini!trolls. All she had to do was remind herself that they weren’t really creatures. Or she could pretend they were either grindylows or inferi, which, actually, worked really well on a psychological defensive standpoint. If anything, she was prepared when she saw the first small club swinging at her shin, and she swept her club around to try to whack the offending mini!troll away. Troll!cricket maybe? |
Quote:
In the middle of its constant swinging, it waved its club gesturing for others to come to its aid for their fallen brother. Four trolls descended quickly, each with their club at the ready. Quote:
Not at all. The one to the left took a mighty swing at her shin just as the other tried to bring its club down on her foot. The one that disappeared was immediately replaced by another that came running in a goofy, fumbly fashion. It was ready! Quote:
He'd hit his friend, this was WAAARR. Much like the one over by the Slytherin Captain, this one waved its club to call in reinforcements. Clumsily, two others hobbled over. The one on the ground regained his footing, ready to begin again. Quote:
SMASH SMASH SMASH!! It kept swinging with no signs of stopping. Best give it a real swing because company was on the approach. Four more to be exact. Quote:
The ones that DID turn their attention to her came in with their clubs already swinging. Quote:
At the moment, however, he was the last of her concerns. All the rolling sent him into a pair of trolls who turned to her immediately. Both ran at her with clubs swinging, one taking aim at her knee when they got close enough. |
Quote:
However, she couldn't stop her foot from being hit by the other troll. Her eyes glistening with tears of pain and fury, Daisy let the troll know just exactly how upset she was by whacking the troll on the head. Now for the third troll. Daisy was getting a bit puffed and sweaty but she wasn't going to be beaten. She faced the troll and swung hard making contact with its' torso. |
Quote:
She saw the third troll coming, but the sixth year was prepared, raising her club overhead and waiting until it was close to take a swing. This was kind of theraputic in a way, did the headmaster know? |
The fifth year couldn't help wrinkling her nose at the little creatures. Honestly, would there ever be a day she came to this class and didn't feel so uneasy? ... Well, no probably not, considering when it came to fights or threats she'd learn she was a very flighty person and would rather just run away than try to cast a spell or fight anyone. She was a gentle hufflepuff who wished no ill will towards anyone, real or fake... And yeah, she was well aware she would probably die one day because of this. But turning her attention back to the nasty little trolls and took a step forward, seeing how the classmates who hung back seemed to be pestered even more by the things. Squaring one up that seemed to be a bit further from the swarm she went towards it and took a firm swing... And missed it completely... Why couldn't she even do this? |
Quote:
And the three trolls running her way were only amping up her enthusiasm, causing her to swing even HARDER at them. ONE. TWO. THREE. She'd whack them ALL!!!!!! The Gryffindor inched closer and closer to the center of the room, too. Trolls? She wanted ALL of them. Come to mama!!!!!!!! |
The booger made me laugh louder than it should have. lol Grinning Chloe couldn't help but be excited that she was able to get one. Now if she could get more that would be even better. She had no clue one was coming up behind her, but she was looking around in front of her when she saw one going at Vita. "VITA WATCH OUT!" They were allowed to help each other, right? She hoped so and went towards her older friend to try and help, but before she could take another step she felt the pain go up her leg. It wasn't a hard enough hit to break anything, but it still hurt. "OWWWWWWWWW" What the bloody.... "You little..." Turning on her heel she took a big swing at the troll that had hit her. She was swinging as hard as she could and she hoped she could send it flying through the air. |
Quote:
Spotting the four trolls coming his way, Dorian stopped running away and was about to spin around and whack them when his knee was hit. Gasping because that hurt! Dorian swung his club wildly without aim. Another hit against his shin made him stumble forward before he fell on his knees. He wasn't giving up though and even while he was on the ground the Ravenclaw swung his club at the trolls while getting back up on his feet. Could they stop now, please? T____T |
Quote:
"Oww!" she cried, looking at the offended trolls that were now ransacking her. "Leave me alone!" She took a swinging hit at as many of them as she could, aiming for their heads, and at some aiming at their legs. Put off there balance and all. |
SPOILER!!: from earlier in the class eek Oh! Well... that was certainly one use for the club. As soon as the side door opened, Abra span around to watch the progress of the little trolls as they shambled their way into the room, and held his club ready, all the better to hit things with. After all of his experience getting hit by bludgers in Quidditch games, Abra was not the slightest bit willing to allow himself to be hit by the clubs of one of those trolls. Or by the clubs of any of his fellow students, which was why he quickly took a large side step away from anyone else, which put him immediately in the trolls' way. Well, no time like the present. He swung his club - two-handed grip - as hard as he could at the nearest troll, like he was taking out a particularly aggressive bludger (he liked to take out his stress on bludgers, okay? And Abra had a lot of stress). No holds barred, you know? |
Chloe made frowny faces at the Headmaster. She was itchy, yes, but she was fine. He needed to just worry about himself. Not about her. Worry about the class and the... oh, trolls? Trollsssssss? Chloe nibbled on her club as she watched the trolls attack her classmates. She ought to be doing something right now, but her stomach was growling. Oh, right! Fighting the trolls! Chloe bounced to her feet and rushed the nearest troll that had managed to sneak back her classmates. She swung the club like a beater's bat, right at the troll's head. |
Quote:
She leaned over, while scooting backwards, to reach for her own club. In a true fight or flight moment, the first year began wildly swinging the club as soon as she reached it. |
This should be pretty easy of the seventh year, after playing beater for three years now. But she wasn’t going to overestimate the professors abilities. She grabbed up a club and held it just like she would a beaters bat. Which was basically what it was. She moved toward the trolls, and took a swing at the closest one to her. This was already turning out the be the best defense lesson ever. At least she was getting some extra Quidditch practice in today. She could use it too. |
Slight catch-up Of course Archer knew the club wasn't food (unless one was talking about a club sandwich). But some part of her had just wanted to know what the thing tasted like (like a young kid with a crayon). A whole lot of wood as it turned out. Or maybe the more accurate description would be a pencil. Either and/or both. Either way, she did make her way over to Professor Trent as asked, even though she was pretty sure that it was just a couple of splinters. In her gums and tongue. She showed her 'injuries' to the professor, feeling glad that she'd remembered to brush and floss her teeth that morning. Could she play whack-a-troll yet? |
Quote:
His eyes tracked the other three as they began moving closer to him He wasn't sure which one he should swing at first. Looking at the one in the middle approaching him faster he planted his feet and went for its shoulder. After making contact he rubbed his itchy shoulder. He took a deep breath assessing how he should handle the last two. |
Quote:
The second to be hit by the club DDI disappear, however. This one disappeared. Did it seem like the number of trolls was lessening? Perhaps, but there were now two more heading her way. Best keep swinging. Quote:
Clumsily, they stumbled toward her but the timing was clearly off because the third that had approached ran right into that waiting club. Poor thing never had a chance. It never saw it coming. It's friend grunted it's displeasure and raised its club again in manifested anger. It swung wildly, no real method behind it. Quote:
Did she call that a swing?? THIS was a swing!! The club smashed its club toward her knee with all its little troll might. It swung, then swung again in maddening fashion, occasionally waving said club to invite more. This was clearly a free for all. Quote:
Another poofed under her club but the third would not give in. It signalled another over for a double team attack and they both swung toward her shins at the same time. TEAMWORK! Quote:
Overall, the number in the room was descreasing. It wouldn't be much longer. Quote:
In this new position, they tried to get in as many swings as possible. With how wildly he'd been swinging, it wasn't difficult for them to miss the brunt of the assault and now it was their golden opportunity. If they could keep him here on the ground, he would stand no chance. One took a swing at his stomach and another by his shoulder. Over and over they smashed their clubs. Quote:
Her swings were firm and did set a few off their feet. Two disappeared with a poof, never to be seen again. The others staggered back to their feet, momentarily vulnerable while they found their footing. Quote:
The troll looked up at the boy, dumbfounded with a look that read "what'd you do that for?" but the look was short lived before it disappeared into a puff of smoke. It had been a solid swing and the troll would never have recovered. Quickly two trolls fell in place to pick up where the fallen troll had left off. They were uncoordinated in their motions, only occasionally swinging at the same time by chance and luck alone but they were aiming for him and doing their best. Quote:
In all this chaos, another moved up behind her--two in fact. They both took a swing at the back of either knee, hoping to land a solid blow while another stomped toward her from the front. Unintentional distraction? They certainly didn't have the intelligence to coordinate very far beyond "let's all attack at once!" on purpose. It was a strategy with mixed results. Quote:
Her swings were wild, her swings landed on some of the trolls but they would not give up the fight. Finally, one of her wild swings yielded proper results. There was a light puff of smoke, indication she'd managed to hit one of them in solid enough fashion to make it disappear. Oh, another puff. Maybe her swings were accomplishing more than they first appeared to. Quote:
Coming up on the rear, one dragged its club along the floor in her direction. This was as sneaky as it could be. Was she paying attention? Quote:
The Headmaster firmly took hold of her chin, firm but not abrasive. He tilted her head both forward and back to get a full view of what all was going on in there. He could see them, yeah, a few minor splinters. Whatever bleeding had happened was already clearing up. This wouldn't be too difficult. Once he felt he had a good enough idea of what needed fixing, the man waved his wand and cast a simple healing charm. It cleared away the minor cuts and splinters sufficiently enough. "There." Malachi dropped his hand and reholstered his wand. "Good as new, Calrissian. Hop back to the activity, you don't wanna miss out." The number of trolls was already decreasing. Quote:
Alas, all it did was momentarily disable this one while the other two advanced forward with their own wild swings. It was almost a free for all while the middle one scrambled to get its club. Maybe he could try getting in a few more swings in the right place. |
Quote:
As the one in front caught her attention, Chloe felt both her knees buckle from the attack from an unseen assailant. Unseen but not unsmelled. Trolls. Trolls, and Chloe was on the ground with three trolls approaching. "A little assistance, please!" Where was her club? |
Quote:
She looked around and swallowed before properly attempting to swing at the trolls again. |
Quote:
Each approached rapidly and began swinging away as if their magically created and not entirely existent lives depending on it. Now it was her turn to be the metaphoric mole that got whacked and they were having a field day with it to be sure. Help? Sure, they'd help her to a few bruises, free of cost. Quote:
It looked like she was starting to get the hang of it. It was in watching his students now that the Headmaster truly understood that many of his students...had a lot of pent up ...well....EVERYTHING. Good grief, was Spinnet oka--no no, were the trolls Spinnet was massacring okay?? Was BOTROS okay? He'd never seen the boy so visibly give in to the physical. Malachi watched the students, some faring better than others. First Katharos and now Kettleburn were on the floor. Bad idea. "On your feet, you two. Won't whack anything on your backs." But they'd be getting plenty themselves. Phillips may have been in for a similar fate is she hadn't managed to regain her club. Overall, however, they were doing a good job of removing the trolls. The number had significantly decreased by the time he addressed them all. "Get rid of the last of the trolls and gather round!" He instructed, hands back in his pockets while he waited for them to do just that. Once the students were gathered, it was time to move on. "Now that we've gotten a bit of practice down in ways trolls go about their destruction, let's all pause for a bit of reflection. I have two very simple questions. You can answer one, or both. From the readings I expect you've done, what do you know about trolls? Second, what makes muggle means like these clubs impractical and downright il-advised when dealing with their larger counterparts?" OOB: Second question is up! Have your student answer either or both, whichever works for you ^^ What do they know about trolls or why clubs wouldn't be advised as the primary defense against them. I'll move the lesson on again in 24 hrs from the time of this post |
They were finishing up already? Vita felt a little disappointed, honestly. This had been really fun. She was also kind of wondering why she'd never thought to be more interested in the beater position on the Quidditch team. Seems she had a pretty great swing. The last little troll swinging at her leg caused her to side step before she sent her own club crashing down on it. She almost felt sorry for the little guy. Almost. Moving over to the headmaster, Vita considered his question. "There are mountain, forest, and river trolls, sir. As for using clubs to deal with the bigger ones, well, it'd sort of be like the activity we just did, but reversing our places. We'd be the smaller ones and while we might get a few blows in to hurt them, they'd have the strength and size advantage." So unless you could get them in their most vulnerable areas, you probably shouldn't come at them with a club at all. |
None of his hits had landed?! Getting fed up with the activity, Dorian struggled to get up from the ground but failed as one of the trolls started hitting his shoulder and he gasped out loud when another one hit his stomach. Although it did not hurt that bad, the teenager had not eaten breakfast in the morning and his energy level was already low. Clutching the club in his hands till his knuckles turned white, Dorian swung it around with no aim or accuracy at all. He just wanted to get away. While he wasn't the only one who had fallen on the ground, thank Merlin, it was still embarrassing to see that a lot of students were actually good at this and he did not get how they could be enjoying this...violence. As the last few trolls vanished, the Ravenclaw stayed on the floor looking up at the ceiling and dropped his club out of his hand. He hadn't been able to hit even one... With an annoyed huff, he sat upright and stood up. "What was even the point in all this?" he whispered to himself more than to anyone else as he dusted off his uniform and corrected it until he looked presentable again. He had not missed the questions, and the Ravenclaw cheered up a bit. Theory. That was his element. "Trolls have little intelligence and they are very unpredictable which makes them so dangerous. Their height can be up to twelve feet long and they eat human flesh although i read they also like to eat fish" he passed for a moment before continueing. "As for the second question, i think that their head is a weak point for them but because they are at least twelve feet tall it is very hard to reach that place even for a person with magical abilities. So an object like this" he held up the club for a second "Its useless against real trolls because they just feel like its tickling their tough skin." |
Quote:
Zoryn matched their battle cry with one of her own, letting out a LOUD GRUNT as she swung her own club down at one troll's head, in time to save her right shin from taking a hit. Her left shin, however, was on the receiving end of a powerful WHACK!courtesy of Troll #2. The Gryffindor winced for a moment, before looking at said Troll with fury in her eyes. She didn't waste a moment's time before swinging at the remaining troll because her shin could wait. That, and biting down on her lip really helped lesson the pain somehow. It was a trick she used when playing Quidditch too. She had endured worse. Quote:
She wanted to fight trolls again! Could they do that? It was actually fun. This, however, was not fun. This was the opposite of fun. "Gonna take a wild stab here and say that they don't just poof away once you hit them," a very great answer by Zoryn A. Spinnet. Aka they'd probably just get angry and things would get ten times worse. Great. Glad we answered that one. Was it time to fight trolls again? |
Merlin, this was exhilarating. But then, Abra already knew it would be, he already knew how much he liked taking out his pent up rAH feels on magically animated but totally insentient objects. Trent had assured them that the trolls wouldn't be hurt or anything, and Abra had taken that to mean physically or emotionally, and so he'd gone all out. And it felt gREAT. When the troll gave him that LOOK, Abra couldn't help but give it an apologetic shrug that basically said 'rules are rules', but it had disappeared in a puff of smoke almost in that same instant, only to be replaced by two more trolls who wandered over. Abra backed up quickly and swung his bat with that same two-handed swing at the first one, aiming to sort of smack it into the second, but just as he did, the second troll managed to club him directly on the ankle. "Ow!" Abra yelped, hopping backwards again on his good foot, at about the same time as he heard Trent calling for them all the get rid of the last few trolls and gather round. Feeling just a little bit vengeful, Abra BOPPED the second troll on the head in the style of whack-a-mole (a game he knew nothing of) and wandered back to the gathering of his classmates, shaking out his foot on every other step. His ankle was alright, he'd endured worse from Quidditch. As for the question, Abra honed in on the second one and raised his hand, after mopping a little sweat from his brow. "Well, trolls are pretty big and thick-skinned, so I imagine that something a lot smaller than them whacking them with a relatively small club will only draw their attention rather than do any damage. Or maybe it would just annoy them. And then you have an annoyed troll coming after you." |
That was fun and seeing the troll fly through the air was the highlight of the day. Nothing could top this class at all, nothing! She stopped with the headmaster got their attention and listened to him talk, taking a swing at a final one that was near her. Once they were gone and she was really focusing Chloe started to think about the questions he asked. "Well the muggle items wouldn't even really hurt a real Troll, just kind of make him madder and then it would hurt or kill you." She couldn't see the club doing any damage and honestly with a bigger one they might not even feel it. |
Right, just don't fall down, Kettleburn. What a very helpful Headmaster they had for themselves. Chloe tossed her club clear and rolled - it was unlikely she'd be able to get up with the trolls looming over her, but as soon as she was clear of their reach and stench, she popped to her feet and brandished her club again. Beater swings, even if it was her least favorite part of practice. Chloe wound up and hit each of them in succession, putting all her strength into seeing them disappear into a puff of smoke. If only all problems were this satisfying to conquer. The professor gathered them together again, and Chloe thought back to her reading. "Some of the spells we use for dueling are not calibrated correctly for handling a troll. So a Stupefy is unlikely to have the same intended impact, especially with them being so much bigger and their brains working differently than a witch or wizard. That being said, sir, spells are still more suitable than physical defense. You have to get pretty close to a troll to hit it with a club, and their reach is much longer than ours. That means that I'm within his range well before he's within mine." |
Quote:
"And Mallari is absolutely right. Try to use a club when handling these things and you'll be the ones getting a solid knock to the head--or anywhere else they get you." Which wouldn't have been pleasant at all. Quote:
"Along with that low intelligence you mentioned, they've also got a nasty temper. Not sure they'd find the clubs particularly ticklish but you're definitely correct, they wouldn't feel a thing--not to the extent you'd need them to in order to get them away from you." The head was indeed a weak spot, the problem was getting to it without dying in the process, which they saw through the mini trolls trying to get at them. It was like Mallari had said. The activity was the scenario in reverse. Quote:
"As wild a guess as that one was, Spinnet, you're correct. They don't disappear in puffs of smoke if you managed to get a solid hit on their heads." He would just...move on. Evidently, nothing more was coming from this. Quote:
The little trolls just now were an exercise in that. Granted....they likely hurt more than a human with a club could hurt a real troll but the idea was there. "Never wanna have an annoyed troll after you. It's a sticky situation." And painful but that went without saying, surely. Quote:
"All you'd do is irritate them and get yourself in quite the fix. It's never advised to use muggle instruments when dealing with trolls--and many other magical creatures for that matter. " Quote:
So long as she never tried that with real trolls. That was how you got stomped. Her answers were more impressive and made him willing to forget that little stunt. [b]"Excellent, Kettleburn. I hope everyone was paying attention to that response. You're absolutely correct."{/b] He especially liked that she'd acknowledged the futility of physical attacks when the troll's reach would always be wider than your own. ---------- Malachi glanced down at his watch. Time was ticking by and they still had one more thing to do before he dismissed them. "Those were very good responses....most of you." He wouldn't Spinnet be calling Spinnet any Spinnet names Spinnet. They all knew who gave valuable answers. He would leave it at that. "Kettleburn mentioned a few things I want you all to keep in mind. Some spells won't have the same effect on trolls as they would on witches and wizards because of how they're made up. Mind effects won't work so spells that affect thinking are likely to be useless. Similarly, a few of you mentioned the futility of hitting them with these little clubs when it won't do more than make them angrier than they likely already are." After today, he didn't expect any of them to attempt physical attacks on trolls. "They've got nasty tempers, low intelligence and a taste for human flesh--though as Katharos mentioned, they also eat fish. That said, if they had to choose between you and fish, hands down, you'll be the one on the menu." So no one got the idea that if they had trolls they could distract them with fish. With such simple thinking, all the reasoning the troll would have would be "human tastier, fish can wait" and they could fill in the rest. "I won't take much more time with explanations, as I'm sure most of you," Looking at you Spinnet, "did the reading so I'll end with the reminder that the best way to deal with trolls is the bludgeoning hex. It's much like what we did just now with the mini trolls, a good, solid hit to the head but without the danger of having to get close enough for them to get you first." Which was always a good plan. "Today, we'll be making use of the bludgeoning hex--as I'd like to assume you all came to the arena to practice at some point after our last lesson." It was apart of the homework afterall. "In a second, you'll be meeting your final test. Don't panic. Remember all you've been taught in the last class and what you may or may not have practiced for your homework." With a flick of his wand, the side door opened once again. STOMP. STOMP. STOMP. The ground shook with each step the troll made. Towering at a good 12 ft, the mountain troll made its way into the room. Its club remained against its shoulder and it gave a loud grunt. It wasn't any more real than the other trolls had been and would disappear if hit just right and just enough times. "I have a few of these in the back room waiting. Defeat a certain amount and I'll cancel the homework I planned for you. Keep away from its club. It doesn't matter that it isn't real. Treat this as a real life situation. In real life, you wouldn't stand around and wait to be clobbered." If they didn't, the club would hurt just a bit more than the mini trolls' had but not by much more. The bulk of the effects there would be a sudden chill that ran deep to their bones. It would knock them around but it wouldn't cause serious harm. The idea was to have them learning, not dead. Dead would be unfortunate. "Go!" OOC: Main activity tiiiimmmeeee! There's currently a troll in the arena. Everyone will have to work together to take it down. A certain amount of blows to the head will cause it to vanish so team work is key. Once it leaves, another will appear. I'll try to post the troll's reactions as regularly as I can. You have until Feb. 20 to get posts in. If you've got any questions, don't hesitate to ask. ^_^ |
Even though she knew deep down the 12 ft mountain troll wasn't real, the sight of him still sent a shiver down her spine. He was huge, frightening, and could easily take out half the class with a swing of his club, which was enough to cause this sixth year to take several steps back. She was small, but quick, and that could be an advantage in this situation, so she was going to keep moving around. Aiming her wand at the troll's head, Vita concentrated on the bludgeoning hex and said the incantation clearly and forcefully. "Labefactum!" |
And just like that, there were trolls! But like… almost cute. Jackson watched as the miniatures filled the room and got his club in a baseball stance. He’d really have to bend his knees to get a good hit on these little guys. He saw them starting to close in on his location aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand SWING BATTA! He had managed to land some kind of hit, but the angle had been all wrong. Okay no problem, no problem, just have to try again! Aaaaaaaaaaaaand WHAM! Okay, that was more satisfying. Things were getting easier as he progressed, and he had been able to hit a few more trolls before they were called to attention again. “They aren’t known for their smarts, but they can be very strong especially normally sized… Clubs and stuff are definitely impractical… You might as well try to blow over a brick house with a deep breath.” And you couldn’t just huff and puff and blow the trolls away. |
Having practiced the bludgeoning hex and feeling fairly confident about it now, Dorian took his acacia wand out of his holster and held it in his hand when the Headmaster opened the side door and a twelve feet troll entered the arena. He knew that its wasn't a real one but it still activated his fight or flight instincts and he took a few steps backwards to the wall. He wanted to leave the class and the only reason he stayed was because he wanted a good grade. And what if this came up during his exams at the end of the year? He didn't want to fail. Wait, few?! He had a FEW more trolls in the back?! Were they even able to defeat one? Like the Headmaster had said, they had to work together but the problem was, he wasn't a team player. Moving to the side, Dorian walked swiftly along side the wall until he was behind the troll and aimed his wand at its head. His blue eyes narrowed as he thought of the spell before he twirled it clockwise in a circular motion and flicked his wand at the head "Labefactum!" |
Catch up The question was as to why a club wouldn’t be ideal right? He was so out of it after finally slugging the troll in the head. It disappeared. He caught his breath and thought over the question. He realized that he he wouldn’t want to anger the trolls. He had done that and they just kept coming back to him with more anger. He thought that over as he listened to people mention their low intelligence that he knew of. He was thinking it over ready to answer when he heard that they were going to be fighting a troll. As a collective. He took in a deep breath not ready to have to do this. UNTIL No homework. He got himself ready because he wanted to not have to do homework. Watching as the troll came into view he took another deep breath. Watching Vita and Dorian start using the bludgeoning hex he calculated when he should use it himself. Seeing no time like the present he raised his wand, “Labefactum!” he really wanted this thing to go down so they didn’t have homework. |
Hers was one of the good answers. If you know, you know. Nasty tempers? Low intelligence? Man, these trolls were sounding awfully familiar. Perhaps Anna Meriwether had a family relation she didn’t know about. Zoryn would be sure to point it out to the girl later. The seventh year was nothing if not a great friend. Just trying to make sure Anna found her long lost family! What an incredibly great samaritan. As for that look, Zoryn had no earthly idea as to why it was warranted. She just flashed Headmaster Trent an innocent smile. Of course she did the reading (not)! But he didn’t have to know that. She could improvise, it was one of her talents. Mhm. Zor wasn’t worried about it. Until the thing came stomping into the arena. Whoa. It was huge, a characteristic which Zoryn typically didn’t mind, just not in this instance. But all Trent had to say were those magic words ‘cancel the homework’ and Zoryn Amari Spinnet was absolutely on board. The Gryffindor found herself standing opposite Patrick who had just sent a bludgeoning hex towards the Troll, and wasted no time drawing her own wand forward. “Labefactum!” TAKE THAT TROLL FACE! |
Real troll or not, Nettie couldn't help but wrinkle her nose. Trolls irked her for a number of reasons - they were gross, smelly, and DANGEROUS. Even if the troll wasn't real, they'd been warned that they needed to stay away from the club. You didn't need to tell Nettie twice. The bludgeoning spell - yes, she recalled practicing that. As she thought about the incantation and the wand movement, she noticed that she had been scratching her arm a TON. So much so that she had actually broken the skin in some places. She frowned and pulled her sleeves down over her arms. She must be letting all this DRAMA surrounding her life get to her more than she realized. Must be an anxious tick or something. The promise of no homework had certainly lit a fire under some people, and she grabbed her wand and moved it in a circular motion, flicking it at the troll's head. "Labefactum!" she exclaimed. She made sure to keep her distance - she could easily jump and hide behind the Slytherin captain if she needed to. Or she'd throw Zoryn at the fake troll. She was taking NO chances. |
Ketchup Quote:
Hanna listened in to the answering of the questions on trolls and bats, but felt she had little to contribute. Still, she took in what had been said and paid attention to Professor Trent's summary. The loud stomps distracted her into another wave of anxiety, at the thought of the size of the troll making that sound. And trying to remember the incantation to the Bludgeoning hex was, at this current time, rather difficult to focus on. Deep breaths, Newton. As the troll came into the arena, she listened to what her classmates were saying. As soon as Vita got started it all came back to her. Of course, Labefactum. It was time to get even with the trolls. Even if it meant no homework, which wasn't a promise that particularly excited Hanna. Watching others first, as they had a go at hitting the troll with their bludgeoning hexes, and it was time. She raised her wand, trying to focus on the spell and keep her voice steady. "Labefactum," she cast, moving her wand in a clockwise circular motion, aiming it around the troll's head, and adding a flick in. |
Hooray! She thanked the Headmaster before heading off to whack some mini-trolls around a bit. Before Archer could get too into the activity however (probably a good thing too, just saying), the Headmaster called a time-out. For question asking. Which she didn't answer because, well, what was the point in repeating what had already been said? And yes, she'd done the reading and the bludgeoing hex practice. A fact that was proved when the actual-sized troll came stomping out as if it was Mario jumping on those little mushroom guys. Archer aimed her wand at its head and cast "Labefactum!" Yeah, she hadn't even heard the part about 'no homework'. |
The troll registered the small bodies about the room and got its club ready. It grunted again and again, getting ready to charge when it felt a "bop" to the head....more than a bop. It actually hurt and ENRAGED the troll who immediately swung its large club toward the girl (Vita). And ANOTHER hit, this one from the other direction (Dorian). With a loud shout, the troll clumsily turned on his heels headed directly for the boy. The ground shook beneath it with every heavy stomp of its enormous feet. That unwittingly put it in a tricky situation. It didn't notice it had become moderately surrounded until the blow from the boy (Patrick) then the girl (Zoryn) closing it off. This angered the troll even further and though it was beginning to feel light headed, it took a hard turn to face the boy. Again, it swung it's large club and rushed forward. BAM, one from the rear (Nettie). It didn't stop. With all the determination in the world, it began swinging violently at the Slytherin Captain. It was just about to drive the boy into the ground when BAM. The last two spells that hit at the same time (Hanna and Archer) were more than it could handle. The spells had accumulated and this troll had hit its limit. Lacking any sort of grace, the troll toppled to the ground but it didn't disappear. It simply remained slumped over. Confused? Best get over it because just as it fell, another troll came grunting and roaring out the door. It wasted no time putting it's club to good use, already taking a hard swing at the closest, the one who'd kept moving (Vita). Spotting its fallen brother, it grabbed the extra club and began to spin and swing and swing and spin chaotically. |
Well, they'd certainly been right in their thinking that every whack to the troll was only making it more set on taking them out. The first one had nearly done it to her, its attempt at a blow causing her to yelp and dive to the floor. Even though somewhere in her mind she knew it wouldn't really hurt her, it was still enough to keep her frozen in place for a moment or two. Merlin, the headmaster really knew how to get their hearts racing, didn't he? Vita took a few deep breaths and pushed herself to her feet again, circling as her other classmates finished him off. The arrival of the second troll caused the sixth year to stumble over her own feet in an attempt to get away. This one seemed even angrier, probably because the evidence of what they'd done was still sprawled out on the floor for all trolls to see. Was that the point? Distracted by the thought, and slowed down by her fear, she felt the hit from the troll's club. It managed to graze her shoulder, causing a chill as cold as ice to radiate down her arm, the force of it sending her back onto her bottom and scrambling to her feet once more. "Labefactum!" And just as she felt okay again, the troll was windmilling not one, but two clubs. Suddenly defeating him didn't seem like such an easy task. "Careful of the clubs!" She called out, moving around again, trying her best to stay out of the way. |
Y'know, Zoryn didn't even try to hit the troll again. She was perfectly content standing here watching it have a go at Patrick. No offense, Patrick. But this was her favorite channel. Liked and subscribed. It wasn't long before Patrick was unfortunately not-crushed. Not that she wanted him to die or anything, but it was only fair that he took one for the team. Wasn't like she was about to do it. Just sayin'. A new troll appeared, this time ANGRIER than the first. And it was going towards that Vita girl. Again, Zoryn was fine with this. Ready, aim, "Labefactum," and also jumping out of the way of said clubs. Thank u, next. |
Vivienne was shocked that someone had done their reading. Disproportionate? Too small or too big? A club? Thanks, Professor for that information. That will do me a large solid. Vivienne must have missed the scenario and activity. She thought: Trolls cannot apparate... Again the activity... Sticky situations. Vivienne had to pay more attention in class and stop falling asleep. Everyone who did the reading was right on par. Were they all Ravenclaws? She would have rolled too if there was a troll attacking her. But she would never right now try these stunts on a real troll. She was not Harry or Ron. Those were good defences. No real trolls. Yet. But distracting them with fish. That could be useful. She wrote that down in her notebook. She had practiced the Bludgeoning Hex constantly on her holidays. She then watched the side door. What.... a troll? She picked up her club and started clubbing trolls. |
That...had been easier than she expected. They had basically ganged up on the troll and BOOM, down it had gone. Except it was immediately followed by yet ANOTHER troll, swinging its club like a crazy person. Staying close to the older kids (because they were GREAT cover) she raised her wand in a circular motion and whipped it towards the troll once more. This actually wasn't that hard, once you got the hang of it..."Labefactum!" she called out again. They got the last one, they could totally get this one too! |
The first spell (Vita) caused it to momentarily stop spinning but only long enough for it to figure out WHERE that spell had come from. It may have been dizzy but it turned its spinning in her direction...that is, until the second spell Zoryn derailed him entirely. The troll swung at Vita just as it got hit, causing it to tilt forward dangerously. Couple more inches forward and it would have fallen directly atop the girl it now towered over. That’s when the third spell (Nettie) collided with the back of its head. It grunted loudly and turned sharply. She was his newest target. It stomped toward her, swinging one of its clubs in Zoryn’s direction before bringing them both down toward Nettie. It lifted and slammed them several times, attempting to clobber her entirely. Not enough knocks had been received to bring this one down yet and it was plenty angry! |
They had done it? They had actually defeated the first troll? That had been....easy.... Were all trolls that easy to defeat? If so than he was questioning the Ministry's classification of the creature. That was until a second troll entered the arena and this one definitely looked angrier than the first one. Did it know that its comrade had fallen? Pfft he doubted it. He looked over as Vita, Zoryn and Nettie casted the spell but it didn't do much this time because the troll was still swinging its club wildly and next thing he saw it making its way towards Nettie. The Ravenclaw used this opportunity to run along side the wall again and stopped when he got behind the troll. He raised his wand aimed at its's head and send another bludgeoning hex its way. |
Vivienne was shocked that they had defeated the first troll. How? Vivienne agreed with Dorian. And the angry troll? Vivienne had it until control like the Auror she was made to be. She walked over to Nettie and said, "Hold on! Stupefy!" Then she distracted him. |
EEEeeeee! Zoryn let out a squeal as she jumped out of the troll's way. Yes, take Nettie. She was irrelevant anyway. Zoryn, however, was on her way to fame very shortly soooooo. It was best this way, soz. Holding her wand up to Anna's ugly cousin, the Gryffindor paused a moment before sending another spell it's way. "Labefactum!!!" Okay, this was kind of getting boring. Could they chase the baby trolls around the classroom again? |
Patrick watched as it picked up a second club oh boy he did not like the looks of this. He watched as the other students were working hard to get rid of the troll he was trying to figure out when the best time to strike was. well now he had no choice. As much as Zoryn was wild and carefree about other people he really enjoyed her no nonsense and didn't want her to get hit with a club. "Labefactum!" He shouted at the troll that was headed straight toward Zoryn. |
"Labefactum," Jó was trying to cast the spell as best he could, but he was out of breath from running away from the troll. Did he have to run away, and jump dramatically around as he dodged the creature? Yes - because he was running and jumping into its path. Here to protect the people of Hogwarts with his The trolls head. Not anyone elses. |
Spells were really starting to fly, weren’t they? The troll staggered at the hit from the boy (Dorian) and again at the one shot by the girl who’d managed to avoid him (Zoryn). The stupefy cast by the young girl (Vivienne), however, had no effect, as the Head Girl had explained earlier in the lesson. Perhaps someone should’ve been paying better attention. All she did was earn herself a hard swing from the troll’s club—the left one—while the right took aim at the latest to join the casting (Patrick). Josef’s spell might have worked and could have been THE one to bring the large creature down but then... Stomp. STOMP. STOMP!Stompstompstompstomp. Another troll came barrelling into the room at full speed, accidentally running into the Gryffindor boy’s spell. It wound around and smashed in his direction sharply. Two trolls and three clubs. What could possibly go wrong. That...that was potentially a problem. Malachi’s brows rose slightly as he watched the third troll bust into the arena without warning. It...wasn’t planned...but with how well the students were managing so far, he decided he’d watch and wait before intervening. Real life was unpredictable. Might as well see what the students were capable of. |
UM. Vita was not about this troll fighting life. When the third one joined the little party they had going on, the sixth year decided to stay still and stay quiet, waiting for the moment either was distracted by her classmates to aim at their heads, one then the other. "Labefactum!...Labefactum!" As soon as the incantation had left her mouth the second time, she was moving, knowing they'd be turning their attention in the direction the blows had come from. They weren't smart, right? Might as well try and take advantage of that. Merlin knew she wasn't trying to be crushed during class. Maverick would be so mad at her. |
Two. There were two trolls now. Hanna blinked and swallowed hard. Now not only did they have to work together to defeat trolls, they had to work together to defeat TWO trolls. TWO! Well, there was really only one thing Hanna wanted to do. Two, if running away and hiding was an option, but this young Ravenclaw didn't want to declare defeat. Also, she wanted to help her classmates, as much as a fourth year could, anyway. Facing off one of the trolls, from a safe, safe distance, she raised her wand up again, looking up at the troll and trying to aim it around his face. "Labefactum! Labefactum! Labefactum!" she cried out rather loudly. With her wand, performing the clockwise circular motion with her hand, and finishing it with a flick. |
The 12 foot troll entered, and that’s when Jackson’s eyebrows went up. Holy moly that was different. Jackson hoped that this was the closest he would ever get to a troll again to be honest. He began the movement that he had indeed been practicing and moved in a clockwise motion. “Labefactum!” He watched as the troll seemed to get a little more discombobulated after each hit. “Labefactum!” he called again, heading Vita’s call about the clubs. He watched as the troll changed targets, and did his best to stay out of its eyesight. |
The arena was alight with spells, flashes here and there as everyone seemed to be working double time to take down double the amount of trolls they were originally expected to be handling. Where Malachi had first thought there was need for serious intervention, the Headmaster was now somewhat more relaxed. They were handling themselves. Some seemed a bit out of it, not keeping up as well as others but overall, as a team, he was impressed. Even more impressive, in all this chaos they still managed to take down one of the two trolls--the earlier that had received more hits. Malachi watched the large, imposing figure topple ungracefully to the ground, the other frantically swinging at them as if it could not be stopped....and it would not be. "TIIIMMMEEE!" He called. The glance down at his watch just now had told him it was nearing the end of the lesson and he wouldn't be the reason they were late for their next otherwise he'd have to yell at himself and that was .... just not something he'd woken up prepared to do this morning. "Time! Time! Yes, very good everyone--oh." With a flick of his wand, he vanished the troll, all of them in fact. The man had momentarily forgotten it was still swinging away at them. Wouldn't that have been a disaster if they'd lost concentration. Yikes. "Two out of three, not bad at all. I'm impressed you all managed to keep your heads even in the face of the unexpected. Unfortunately, that's still an essay from the lot of you." And he meant that "unfortunately" because he'd have to end up grading them all and may have been looking forward to not having to. "The details of the essay will be up on the noticeboard--provided I still have a noticeboard by the time I put it up. Otherwise I'll have your Heads of Houses pass along the information. You can all collect your things then you're dismissed." OOC: Aaaand that's a wrap everyone! Thanks for coming. I'll be leaving the lesson open til I get to work in the morning in case anyone wants to post their students leaving. The lesson is officially over <3 |
