Winter was still upon them, even in February. At least it wasn't as cold as it had been. It was back to being around the 40's at least. Tristan made sure to have the heating charms around the area outside of the barns where he held his lessons. It was quite chilly, but the heating charms would keep them all nice and warm.
As usual there were hay bales set up in a semi-circle, waiting for his students to arrive. They were set up next to a very large empty field just to the right of the barns. Professor Wayland had gone above and beyond for his hay bale throne today. The seat was normal sized, but the back was shaped like a Phoenix in flight, and colored to look like one too. He thought his students needed a little fun after all of the craziness going on with the mutant running around eating things....
So there he sat in his Phoenix hay bale throne, sipping his Chai and waiting patiently for his students to arrive.
OOC: Welcome to CoMC Lesson 2! Please make sure you take a gander at the CoMC Rules while waiting. Class will start in 24 hours. Class has begun! Please jump in where were are! Remember if you have your student show up late there will be IC consequences!

Tad was bundled up for the outdoors when it came time for the next lesson for Care of Magical Creatures. He had his Hippogriff decorated blanket wrapped around him, just in case it was too cold to be outside long. Luckily it wasn't as bad as before outside, as he headed over to the usual designated spot for the lesson.
Phew, it was warm when he arrived. "Hi Professor." Tad chirped before he folded up his blanket before sitting. He didn't need it on anymore. "Nice throne.." It resembled a Phoenix in the back. Very cool.

Hugging her arms, Vita made her way to the lesson, eyes widening as she neared the hay bale thrown. "Wow." Maybe Wayland had dreamed of being a royal when he was young? She tried to picture him as a child, making hay bale throwns for fun as she neared him, small smile playing on her lips.
"Hello Professor," She said softly, offering a polite smile and nodding her her head in agreement with the boy who'd arrived just before her. "I was thinking the same thing."

Indigo shivered a little as he made his way down to the barns, but and breathed a small sigh of relief when he entered the area covered by the warming charms. That was much better. His eyes immediately landed on the hay bale throne, which was different today than it usually was. "Hello professor," he greeted. He wondered if they were learning about phoenixes, but didn't voice his question. Instead, he made his way over to Vita to sit beside her. He gave her a small smile. "Hey."

CHLOE 'IT' KETTLEBURN WAS ENTIRELY COVERED IN HAIR. She knew it. It was hard not to know it when she looked at herself in the mirror and couldn't even see the mirror. She had trouble putting a uniform over all the fur, and she'd fallen down every set of stairs between the Tower and the front door.
But she was a seventh year and studying for NEWTs and it was vital that she make it to every class. Plus the Healer couldn't help her, so what was she supposed to do? JUST SUFFER?
She hid behind a hay bale and tried not to be obvious. Maybe no one would notice the school scarf and robes wrapped around a hair ball.
Ooh...Care of Magical Creatures, another one of her favorite classes of all times here! After last lesson she was excited to meet some more furry friends, she knew that this was going to be a great lesson. Skipping happily down towards the barns area, she itched her arm as she skipped down towards the hay bales. Ah... winter time, she loved loved the snow, so many things to do in it!
Skipping happily towards the hay bales she seen Professor Wayland's hay bale throne and smiled. "Wow... that's incredible!" she said looking at the hay bale throne. "Hello Professor, hope you're well, loving the throne!" she said taking a seat not to far from him. She wondered what they were going to be learning about, as she waited she itched her arms biting her lip.

The thing that Valencia loved most about classes were the lessons where she didn't have to wear robes. They got uncomfortable and it was hard to be active in a skirt. Plus, skirts were never as warm as she wanted them to be.
So, basically, the first year was excited for this lesson.
"Hello Professor." she greeted as she made her way over to where the lessons were held. "Nice sculpture." That was the proper term for hay art, wasn't it? She actually didn't know.

One thing that was seriously bothering her was that there were all the people itching up a storm around her and it made Stasya feel like she needed to itch too. Except she knew it was just in her head, another thing toad to the list of weird occurrences this term. Disturbing occurrences, even, and that was taking all of last term into consideration. Honestly, she’d almost rather be possessed again. At least, now that she knew what that had been all about, there was an explanation for it. There wasn’t an explanation for being barred from entering the kitchens, nor for the disappearances of the hourglasses and, especially, Ambrosia. If she’d thought it would have made a difference, she would have started to sleep in the barns with the winged horses. She didn’t like how anxious the creatures had been since the disappearance one bit.
For now, though, she was still sleeping in the castle and visiting the barns every chance she could get. In fact, she was planning on checking in after the lesson. It wasn’t as if she wasn’t already prepared for a visit, given the usual requests for lessons.
She had given Chloe a curious glance as she’d made her way through the arranged hay bales to head for her usual one and got herself situated to wait for the lesson to start. The had girl didn’t usually hide, but she wasn’t going to say anything if it wasn’t necessary. Instead, she applied her attention to the amazing hay bale throne sculpture Professor Wayland was sitting on. “Hello Professor Wayland,” she began with a smile. “Did Ash act as the model for your throne?” It was possible, or maybe it was just that she liked the phoenix. Either way, she thought it was an amazing likeness if it was.

Tina jogged down the path to the barn, rubbing her hands together to keep warm. The cold didn't bother her much, though. She had her coat, hat, and scarf, and it was warmer today than usual. A sudden blast of warm air hit her as she entered the area. She loosened her scarf and took off her hat, stuffing it into her coat pocket. Ugh, hat hair! The Ravenclaw nervously tried to flatten her dark hair. She wasn't one to fuss about her appearance, but hat hair was no fun!
Tina's dark eyes fell to the professor on his phoenix-shaped throne. "Hello, Professor," she greeted him with a small smile. "Interesting throne. Did you make it by hand or use magic to do it?" First the mug, now the throne; apparently Professor Wayland had a thing for phoenixes. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Tina was partial to the matagot herself. Come to think of it, were they ever going to get a lesson on matagots? Was that what they were doing today? Probably not, considering the large field and the phoenix throne.
She took a seat on the nearest hay bale and waited for the lesson to begin. Whatever creature they were studying, Tina hoped it wasn't something too unpredictable! she liked creatures, but she preferred the cute, cuddly ones to the big, scary ones!

After waking up screaming in her dorm, Archer was storming down to the barns in, well, not the mood. Why? Well, just look at her! It was just lucky for her that it was the middle of winter and not summer, because this ridculious fur was way too warm. Not to mention she looked like Cousin It. In fact, just to get some amusement from the situation, she'd added sunglasses and a fedora with her overalls to complete the look.
"Hello, Professor Wayland," she greeted, speaking up so she could be heard through all the fur. And yes, she knew it wasn't Halloween, thanks.

Emma didn't particularly need this class. She could pass OWLs and still skip class, but she was above skipping classes now. And plus, creatures was fun! Why miss the chance to be around them and do something cool?
Besides, her head of house was pretty cool. She strolled into the area with a smile, giving a slight wave to the professor. "Hey, Professor T."

Patrick had been hiding out for the last week. Avoiding the girl he was fairly certain he wanted to ask out. Avoiding his teammates after their practice with Gryffindor. He had been laying low. Trying to keep himself hidden away. Hair was all over his body. No not just any hair. Thick hair almost as if it was...fur.
He was mortified terribly upset and had yet to muster the courage to head to the healer. He was hoping that he might slip on by and ask professor Wayland if there was anyway he could just get notes and head off to the healer. Or headmaster. Or maybe even St. Mungos. At this point he was pretty sure that he would be the laughing stock of this school and forever alone. The agony.

Tristan noticed a big hair ball walking around with a scarf and robes on and had to do a double take. He wasn't sure exactly who it was but they obviously wanted to be anonymous. So he just inclined his head and watched as the next student made their way.

Tristan took a quick look at his watch and realized it was time to start the lesson. He drank the last gulp of his Chai and with a flick of his wand the tea cup disappeared. Today...he would be keeping the throne. It was too perfect to get rid of.
The creatures professor stood up and moved towards the center of the semi-circle. "Welcome, everyone! I hope it isn't too cold out and the heating charms are still working for you all. If you need it warmer let me know." He said with a wink.
"Now! Before we get started and before I reveal today's creature, I have a few questions for you." He paused, and paced a little in front of the group to get his mind in order.
When he was ready he stopped in the middle of the semi-circle again and put his hands steepled together in front of him. "Please, give one fact you know about Hyena, Lions, or Moose." Tristan looked around at the class and waited for hands to shoot up in the air.
OOC: Welcome everyone! Thank you for coming! You have 24 hours to answer the question before we move on! Make if fun, interesting, silly, whatever! Just have fun!

Chloe didn't want to speak up or draw any attention to herself. She just wanted to listen and see the creatures and generally get as much from class as she could without anyone staring at her. It helped that Archer was there, just as hair as Chloe was, plus some other mystery furball, but she still felt ugly.
And still itchy. Plus it felt a little weird that the professor was so unfazed that there were furry students in class.
When no one spoke up immediately, Chloe raised her hand. It probably wasn't obvious with all the fur plus she was hidden behind the hay bale. "Those are mundane creatures, sir. That is to say, not magical."

Indigo sat on his hands to warm them up a bit as he waited for class to start. The warming charms helped a lot, but they were still slightly frozen from his walk from the castle to the barns. He was just wondering what the lesson was going to be about when it was time to start. And Professor Wayland was asking about... hyenas, lions, and moose? Indigo's first thought was that none of those were even magical creatures, which somebody was already pointing out. They were also all pretty different, weren't they? He was also wondering what exactly he was expected to know about them. Because he didn't really know anything besides standard information about them. Was that enough? He raised his hand. "Um, lions live in groups called prides. They also live primarily on savannas."
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Indigo recieved a smile and a gentle nudge from Vita who was happy to have some company for this lesson. "Bit weird even for Hogwarts, isn't it?" She gestured to the furry classmates, one of whom she only got a glimpse of, causing her to wonder momentarily if one of the creatures had escaped its enclosure. Maybe a potion gone wrong or something? She hoped whatever it was wasn't contagious.
The professor's question seemed a bit odd, those creatures being quite different from each other, but she considered it anyway. .... "Well, moose have antlers." Before she even realized what she was doing, she had her very own hand antlers right above her head as if demonstrating to the rest of the class.
Um...yeah...
Just going to lower her hands and clasp them for good measure.
Itching her arm Stella bit her lip thinking about what she might know about the animals Professor Wayland asked about. Hm... this was a hard one, she didn't know much about these creatures. She heard one thing about Hyenas, but she wasn't sure if it was true or not. Hey... she couldn't be perfect in this subject all the time, and she knew she was going to get things wrong a few times or two, and that was okay. Biting her lip she raised her hand before she itched her arm once again.
"I think that I read somewhere that Hyenas are used in Witchcraft in some cultures Professor." she said shrugging. She didn't know if that was true or not, but she must've sworn she read that somewhere. Biting her lip she put her head down taking notes on the subject.

CHLOE?
Younger Chloe was sitting there the entire time, but something distracted her, a fur something.... two fur somethings. What was going on? She just stared at the fur friend, it was her voice when she answered, but she was fur.
Glancing at the professor and back to older Chloe she just sat there looking confused. Finally, she got up and quietly moved closer to the furball and leaned over, "areyouokay?" and maybe could she touch the fur, it looked soft.
Oh and there was a question that Chloe should probably answer, putting her hand up and waiting. "Lions are meat eaters and are almost the top of the food chain." Humans were top from what she read so lions were not full top, but they were close.
Benji was grateful for the heating charm but still wrapped his robes around him a bit tighter as he watched his fellow students trickle in. He'd somehow managed to make it down early. That didn't usually happen. He'd taken to sleeping a lot in between classes these days, and that usually resulted in him getting to each one juuuuust on time. (Not late, though. Never late!) He must be growing or something. Guess it was a good thing, though -- he was getting his rest. Sort of.
He listened as Professor Wayland began class and asked a question that he felt he could answer. He raised his hand and waited to be called on before replying, "Moose are more dangerous than people think. They seem docile and because they sort of look like deer, people assume they're also a bit skittish like deer are. However, they can actually be pretty aggressive. And they're HUGE."
Also, it seemed like the plural should be meese. You know, like goose = geese. But it wasn't. That was irrelevant, though, so he didn't say it out loud. Anyway, he'd never actually seen a moose in person, but he had seen videos of them doing things like destroying Muggles' cars. And they were pretty scary, honestly.
Dem Carters | even 🕊🕊 have pride | | Expecto PAWtronum 🐈 | U-NA-GI
Wait......so they were just going to pretend this wasn't happening? Like there weren't three Cousin Its in the class? Okay....
Also, about that. She had gathered that one of the others was Head Girl!Chloe, but who was the other?
"Yep," she confirmed her identity. As for the question posed to the class? "Moose live mainly in cold places, like Alaska or Canada or the Northern U.S. unlike lions and hyenas, who live in the warmer grassland areas of Africa." Which made her wonder why they were covering them in the same lesson. They really didn't seem to have much in common....not even a movie. Well, the hyenas and lions did, but the lions were really more the stars of that one. Them and their meerkat and warthog friends...
What were they talking about again?

Caolan of course was at Care of Magical Creatures on time and had found himself a haybale to sit on at the edge of the group and was pretty much keeping himself to himself rather than socialising. It wasn’t because he didn’t want to speak to any of his fellow students it was because a lot of them were acting a bit strange and odd and well.. it seemed to be catching.
And what was with all the scratching? Was there a flea infestation in the school and should the sixteen year old be worried about it? He really didn’t fancy being bitten. Perhaps it was best that he avoid them all.
Back to the lesson..
Professor Wayland started speaking and he did his best to concentrate on what he was saying rather than giving the weirdos strange looks. He raised his hand to offer an answer to the question considering it was about muggle animals and he knew far more about them than he did about these magical creatures. “A group of lions are called a pride, a group of Hyenas is a clan...” Not a pack despite popular belief. “..And a group of Moose are a herd.” Like cows. Entirely useless information but an answer nevertheless.

The usually very cold Hanna actually did feel nice and warm with all of the heating charms. It was very much appreciated for the girl that loved summer, and Hanna removed her beanie and gloves, putting them in her bag.
Hyena, Lions, or Moose. What did Hanna know about them? Not a great deal about Hyenas or Moose, but a fair bit about Lions. But rather than give a singular fact about a lion she had another think about what they might have in common. Chloe had pointed out that they were mundane, which was a good thing they had in common. But Hanna couldn't really think of any other fact that they all shared. So, diet it was. Hanna raised her hand and said "Hyenas and Lions are carnivores. Or at least mostly. And Moose are herbivores. And... an animal's diet is something you can generally tell from their jaw structure." Because humans just aren't capable of eating an entire animal quite like a carnivorous mammal.

Tina nodded. She certainly couldn't fault Professor Wayland for using magic to make his throne! She'd asked out of curiosity more than anything. She was a tad surprised when he said he wasn't good at art without magic; she was quite the artist herself and couldn't imagine how anyone could not be good at art! Maybe she'd do a painting of a phoenix for him one day.
As she waited for the lesson to start, Tina noticed a few of her classmates were covered in hair, though she couldn't properly identify them. Uhh... was that about? Was it an effect of a spell or potion gone wrong, or was this some sort of prank? She thought back to the attack of the clones in charms class earlier in the term. If there were students willing to masquarade as the Slytherin prefect, she supposed it wasn't too far-fetched that some would be willing to dress up as Cousin Itt. Though if this was a prank, she didn't understand how it was funny.
Tina was so lost in thought that she almost didn't hear Professor Wayland's question. When she did, she was even more confused than ever, though for a different reason. Lions, hyenas, and moose (Oh, my!)... what an odd assortment of creatures! Tina didn't have a clue where this lesson was going... unless there was some magical lion-hyena-moose hybrid she didn't know about! She couldn't think of a single thing they all had in common, other than the fact that they were all mammals, and that seemed too obvious to say out loud. Instead, she decided to focus on only one of them for her answer. She raised her hand and said when called on, "Some hyenas, specifically the spotted hyena, make a noise that sounds like laughing. They typically make this sound when frustrated or in times of conflict."

"Very good, Indigo." Tristan said with a nod and a smile. These were exactly the answers he wanted to here.

Tristan grinned at the antlers that Vita was making with her hands over her head. "Yes, they indeed do. Thank you, Vita." He said trying not to let a chuckle escape before moving on to the next hand in the air.

Hey... she couldn't be perfect in this subject all the time, and she knew she was going to get things wrong a few times or two, and that was okay.
"Yes, you could call it witchcraft, folklore, and some cultures even have superstitions about Hyenas. Very good, Stella." Tristan gave her an encouraging smile before turning to the next student with an answer.

Oh and there was a question that Chloe should probably answer, putting her hand up and waiting. "Lions are meat eaters and are almost the top of the food chain." Humans were top from what she read so lions were not full top, but they were close.
"That they are. Very good Chloe." Tristan had noticed that she moved over to the Head Girl!Chloe and was glad that she wouldn't be alone. She seemed pretty unhappy about her furry little problem.

He must be growing or something.
"Very good information there, Benji. They can be very aggressive if provoked! So you must be careful if you ever come across one." Tristan nodded giving the boy a wink before moving to the next hand int he air.

So this fur ball was Archer then! Alright. He knew his students voices better than he thought he did. "Yes! Very good, Archer." He also made his way to her and whispered so no one else could hear, "Have you seen the healer?" Again, not wanting to make a big fuss but acknowledging that this was happening.

"Yes, indeed they are! Thank you, Caolan." Tristan said with a small smile to the young man. He couldn't help but notice how far away he was from everyone and wondered if everything was okay. He wondered if it was because of the strange symptoms going around...and couldn't blame him if it was.

Oh, Hanna was pulling out some very good information there. "Very, good Hanna. Carnivores, herbivores and omnivores all have different jaw structures because of their diets. Thank you for that tidbit." Tristan said with a wink and a grin before moving on to the next hand in the air.

"Yes, very good Tina. Thank you!" Tristan said with a nod and a smile. He was happy to know his students had so much knowledge on non-magical creatures as well as magical.
When there were no more hands in the air, Tristan moved back to the center of the semi-circle, for as usual, he had been pacing around listening to their answers. "Very good answers everyone, and I will explain why I asked about those specific creatures in a few moments, but first another request of your knowledge." He grinned.
He quickly pulled out his wand and turned toward the empty field. With a quick flick of his wrist, a whole herd of Leucrotta appeared. He turned back to the class with a grin on his face. "In one word, please describe a Leucrotta." This would be a very difficult task, but one he couldn't wait to hear their responses to. He stood, grinning, waiting to hear their incredible answers.
OOC: Alright! Thank you all for being so awesome! You have 24 hours to come up with one word that describes these creatures! Be creative and have fun!

Ok, Nettie's hair was OUT OF CONTROL. It had grown almost four inches since she'd gotten back from school, and had gotten thicker too. She knew that puberty meant she was supposed to go through changes but...she'd never heard of THIS happening. It was so hard to concentrate on anything when she had to keep re-doing her updo. It was so heavy, it kept falling out of the hair tie she'd used just a few minutes after she tied it up each time. UGHHHH.
It didn't help when a whole HERD of...things suddenly appeared after he waved his wand. Backing up a few steps, she paused as Wayland gave them the name of what they were. Leucrotta? She'd never heard of them. One word?
Mind still mostly on her hair, she raised her hand. "Moose."
