For the first time this term, tiny ice crystals can be seen falling from the sky as you pass the windows on your way to the Ancient Runes classroom. Starting with just a few flecks at breakfast, by now the snow is steadily falling. This of course impacted the temperature in the corridors, cooling the air slightly until you happen to be passing by the torches scattered down the corridor. Winter certainly has finally arrived.
The moment you get to the doorway to the classroom, it is likely that the moderate heating charm that has been casted is not the first thing that is noticed. Rather more noticeable is that all of the desks have all been pushed against the walls of the room. Needless to say, this is not the typical arrangement that students of this class are used to as the desks are normally grouped in small clusters. If you're already curious as to why this is, then your professor will quite pleased with that.
Speaking of your professor, perhaps even more intriguing is the sight of him. Instead of casually standing out in the corridor welcoming everyone in, Professor Flamel is wandering about the classroom. A number of lit wax candles, similar to the ones seen in the Great Hall, are gently bobbing up and down at chest-height. Without a word and just a simple wave of his hand, a candle levitates from the box in his hand, lights up, and joins the fray.
"Come in, come in," he says, hearing footsteps coming from the entrance into the room, as his hand makes another hand motion and another candle moves out of the box and into position. "Go find a candle to stand beside and have your rune stones at hand. We will be getting started shortly."
OOC: Welcome to the first OOC Ancient Runes lesson of the term! Before posting, please familiarise yourself with the classroom rules and also keep in mind that this is not the first lesson that your characters have had with Flamel this term. The lesson has begun, so feel free to jump in. ^___^
Abra was relieved to get inside the classroom, even if it meant getting closer to his total undoing (otherwise known as Ancient Runes). He visibly relaxed once he was inside the boundary of the warming charms, and made to go take a seat before quickly realising that that wasn't going to happen. Desks pushed away, well, okay then. Stranger classrooms had certainly happened, that was for sure.
"Good morning, Professor Flamel," he said in greeting, then nodded at the instruction and did as he was told, finding a candle and standing by it, before rummaging in his bag for his rune stones.

The only bad aspect of having an Ancient Runes lesson on this day was that Aaron wasn't getting a chance to observe the snow falling outside. Winter wasn't just coming. It was HERE. Otherwise.. Well, if he looked quite excitable upon entering the heated room, that was accurate.
The youngest Botros didn't think he'd ever sit a Runes lesson without remembering his grandfather. The memories were such good ones, filled him with such warmth and happiness, that he nearly ran into a low floating candle in his distraction. Those were new. Actually, now that he was paying more attention, the room was completely different from previous Runes lessons. Huh. Way to miss the obvious, Botros.
Good that different wasn't always a bad thing!
Stooping down to dig around in his satchel, the Hufflepuff quickly retrieved his bag of rune stones and stood, choosing a candle at random. It didn't really matter, yeah? The candles all appeared to be the same... That wasn't a test, he hoped.
Also, hi cousin.
"I hope you're having a great day so far, Professor!"

Winter uniform on, Hanna entered the Runes classroom. Even though slight, it was nice to feel a slight warmth on her. It contrasted against the cold corridors, and the frosty outside. She noticed the desks against the wall, stopping her from taking a seat. The sight of the rest of the classroom was lovely. Candles floating around. "Good morning Professor Flamel," Hanna greeted. She followed instructions and went to stand by a candle, close by the window. Even though she didn't like being cold, she loved snow.

Maybe it was weird of her, but the start of the real winter weather hadn’t bothered Stasya nearly as much as other events in the castle had. All she had needed to do was cast a few warming charms on her school uniform and she was comfortable enough inside the castle, especially knowing by now that most of the professors were likely to have the same charms placed on their classrooms. The idea that Professor Flamel wouldn’t have followed that habit hadn’t occurred to the tall blonde prefect as she’d walked down the corridor and into the room. The sight that greeted her hardly warranted much more than a momentary blink, too.
“Good morning Professor Flamel,” she greeted the man with a smile, going over to stand by a candle near Abra before retrieving her rune stones from her bag. It was a lot easier to find things in there lately with the dwindling supply of cookies.

Patrick walked into the classroom noticing all of the candles in the room. He wondered what they were going to be doing that required them to use candles. It was a bit odd to him but hey you get what you get. Rubbing his arm he walked further into the room noticing the other few students nodding at them.
He hadn't gotten a chance to swing by the great hall and get food and he was now seriously regretting that unfortunate mistake. He nodded at Professor Flamel before greeting him for the morning, "Morning Professor, lots of candles." he stood in front of one half way into the room waiting for further instructions.
Obviously, she was allergic to something somewhere in this castle. That had to be it, not mosquitos like she'd originally thought since the cold weather would've killed those suckers off by now. Luckily, she was a witch and was able to rid herself of all those pesky scratches her nails left with potions. Unluckily, she was paying more attention to the itch on her arm than she was to her surroundings and almost collided with a candle. Ooops. "Morning, Professor Flamel," she greeted, hoping he hadn't noticed her near collision.
Archer chose a nice candle towards the center of the room to stand beside, pulling her rune stones out of her bag and placing it by her feet.

Malachi walks into the warm room and looks around before spotting the professor, his eyes then wandering to the many candles. "Good morning profesor." With that small greeting out of the way he silently stands by a candle before rummaging through his bag for the rune stones he knew he had packed into it.
It was snowing. But thankfully THANKFULLY their lesson was inside. Still kinda cold but inside. He could deal with that. There wasn't much he could deal with this week but being inside on a snowy day? That he could handle. Gladly. Everything else? Put off until further notice, yeah? Cool. His feet carried him into the classroom quickly, coming to a screeching halt as he lifted his head from shaking around his hair. Was.... was he in the right place?
He had to have been, yeah? Ducking his head back out of the room, he double checked. Yeah. Ancient Runes. But... oh wait. There he was. How had he missed the professor? Doesn't really matter now, does it?
"Uh, hello Professor." Candle? Go find one? Cool. Another task he could definitely tackle. Let's do this.

Regardless of how awful external circumstances had been each term at Hogwarts, Derf's fascination with Ancient Runes hadn't entirely wavered. Not much at least. The true turning point still had been when the now former Headmistress Hawthorne had showed them the means to communicate with equestrian animals - how could he NOT love the subject after that, you know? And now, well, being taught by a Flamel? That was, you know, pretty neat.
Though he was a bit confused when the man was not in the corridor waiting for them to arrive as he had become accustomed to, which made the Head Boy wonder whether or not he had confused his schedule - there WAS a lot on his plate these days - only to find relief when he poked his head in and found his peers inside.
Phew.
Taking a few steps in, Derf watched as the man shuffled about and admired the pleasant glow of the candles for a time. Well, at least until he heard instructions. "G'day, professor," he greeted quickly before moving to stand behind a candle.

Which placed him right beside Eamon. "Hey," he smiled with a gentle nudge of the elbow into the other boy's side. "Candles and runes, huh?" he mused as he glanced ahead at his own while his mind swirled with thoughts regarding divine flame and all the mythology that was tied to it.

Drewett never really minded the cold. He was slightly getting used to the chill that came with autumn, but now that it was legitimately starting to snow, everything just seemed a thousand times colder. The Ravenclaw was basically hugging himself as he made his way to the Ancient Runes classroom. When he was better equipped with gloves and heating charms during his free time, maybe he could visit the balcony so he could admire the snow.
Once inside the classroom, he was glad there were heating charms in place. Much better. "Good morning, sir..." Drewett greeted the Runes professor. Well, this was a new set-up. It somehow gave off that feast vibe at the Great Hall. The Ravenclaw made his way to take a seat beside Hanna, and eventually ducking a little when a candle moved above him. Just in case. He didn't need burnt hair this morning. "Hi," he said as he stood beside her.

Zoryn didn't particularly like Runes. It wasn't as boring as Muggle Studies or as excruciating as HoM, but it was still one of the lesser subjects. Not quite as awful, but just about. Y'know?
She actually liked the candles, it was a nice touch.
Which is why he wasn't scowling upon entering the classroom. It could've been much worse. Passing by her Professor she gave the man thin-lipped smile. "Sup, Professor," and quickly found her way to stand near a candle. One that just happened to be next to that nerdy Patrick bloke.

Ancient Runes was one of those lessons that shouldn't be allowed to be taught during morning hours when the brain hadn't fully wakened up yet. But then again, it would also suck to have Ancient Runes near the end of the day when the brain was starting to get tired and sleepy.
Huh. Why was he still taking Ancient Runes again?
Whatever. Didn't matter.
Max normally opted for a spot away from everyone else, but his eyes lit up the moment he saw Zoryn Spinnet. Without even noticing the Professor, he quickly moved to claim the spot on her other side. Sandwiched between two Slytherins, wasn't she lucky?

As always, Jackson never knew what to expect when he entered a Hogwarts classroom. All he did know at this point was that he LOVED eating charms. He wasn't a fan of jackets to be honest. Jackson had noted that their professor was not at his usual greeting post, but upon entering the feng shui-d classroom, Professor Flamel was spotted. "Good morning, Professor Flamel!" Jackson greeted, looking around to see what the lesson plan was today. He greeted those already present with a "Hey," and making sure to send one Derf's way. "Good morning, Professor Flamel." Rylee smiled. Select a candle? That one over there looked nice. The third from the left close to the center of the room. That's where she went to stand while reaching into her bag that was slung over her shoulder for her rune stones.

Tina shivered a little, wrapping her robes a little tighter around her body as she walked down the hall. Not that she minded the cold... she was more intrigued than anything else. The weather here was so different! It never got this cold back home, and until Tina came to Hogwarts, she'd never seen snow before. She wanted to stand by the nearest window and watch the icy white flakes fall, but alas, she had a class to attend.
Truth be told, Tina didn't much care for Ancient Runes. She didn't hate it - at least it wasn't as chaotic as Charms or Defense Against the Dark Arts! She just found other subjects more interesting. Mainly she still took the subject on the off chance the information might be useful someday... and because she felt more at ease around Professor Flamel than most of the other professors. It helped knowing that he was French like her; she wondered if he'd gone to Beauxbatons too. She assumed that he had, but she didn't make a habit of talking to professors... especially not about their personal details. Maybe she'd pluck up the courage to ask one day.
Speaking of Flamel, where was he? Tina didn't see him in the corridor like usual. Confused, she stepped inside the classroom, her dark eyes darking from the candles hovering in the air to the desks pushed against the wall. Was Professor Flamel expermienting with interior design or did this have something to do with the lesson? Merlin, she hoped it was the former! Even in her short time at Hogwarts, she'd learned that strange classroom layouts meant a chaotic lesson. Oh, there was the professor! Tina smiled, nodding politely. "Good morning, Professor," she greeted before moving to stand beside one of the candles.
She reached into her bag for her rune stones. Noe she was ready for the lesson!

The next student just so happened to be another Botros. Flamel did notice that the boy had nearly ran into one of the candles, but he quickly busied himself with levitating another stick of wax. The Hufflepuff was more alert now it seemed, so there was no need to mention what nearly had happened.
"My day is going rather well so far, Mr. Botros," the professor pleasantly responded. "And I wish you the same."

If she wasn't completely warm, then that'd be changing soon enough. But there was a chance that the opposite of that would happened, depending on how the lesson panned out.

"Good morning, Miss Dalgaard-Volkova," he returned before she went to find a candle to stand by and he went about putting up more candles.

For a moment, the man thought that the Slytherin Captain was ... was confused the right word? Either way, Flamel greeted him with a smile as another candle rose from the box. "Hello, Mr. Dooley." A nod proceeded after the fifth year stated the obvious.
"Rune stones out, please," he reminded him before they both went their separate ways.

His attention momentarily returned to his box of candles, though his eyes did fall upon the sixth year Hufflepuff. The man noticed her itching her arm, though was focused more on that rather than the fact that she had almost ran into a candle. Was everything alright? A mental note was made to check in if the itching continued, but the man hoped it was fleeting.
"Good morning, Miss Cairissian," he responded before she moved to the centre of the room.

A series of candles left the box and found a place to float freely in the classroom. When a voice sounded, Flamel turned his head and smiled at the young Ravenclaw. "Good morning, Mr. Mitsue."

The look on the Hufflepuff's face didn't go unnoticed by Flamel. It was very obvious that the seventh year was confused. Was he... The man didn't have enough time to inquire. The boy had already ducked his head out of the room and then, seemingly reassured that he was in the right place.
"Hello, Mr. Macnair," the professor stated as the boy passed by to go stand next to one of the available candles in the room.

The appearance of the thin-lipped Gryffindor was enough to keep the man from, for the time being, emptying his box of wax candles. For a moment he stared at the girl, thinking over how to respond to her. It wasn't every day that he was greeted with a simple 'sup.'
"Hello, Miss Spinnet," he spoke as she passed by. He couldn't help but think that teenagers in today's day and age could be so odd sometimes.

Was there a moment of hesitation from the young girl that had just entered the classroom? Flamel's attention was now, more or less, on the doorway, so he was more intuitive with the initial reactions of those that were stepping into class. He had to admin, it was quite a drastic change. But, regardless, it all served a purpose.
"Good morning, Miss Prichard," he responded, returning her smile with his before she moved to near the middle of the room.

"Bonjour, Miss Dantes," he responded to the Ravenclaw when she walked in, taking advantage of the opportunity to speak the language of their home country. A warm smile was sent her way as she passed by and went to stand next to a candle.
The sounding of the bell signalled that it was now ten o'clock, which meant that it was time for class to begin. With a wave of his hand, the last candle in the box he was carrying rose and a flame lit the wick. As the candle travelled into position, Flamel walked toward the door and closed it.
"Good morning, everyone," the Frechman greeted them all as he made his way from the back of the class and stepped between a number of students to get up to his desk at the front. Once he was there, he set down the empty box and looked out at the many pairs of eyes and glimmering candles before him. "
"Now, I am sure many of you are wondering why all of the desks are against the walls and there are candles floating about," he continued, his eyes twinkling while he spoke with a smile. "The reason for all of this I will get to soon enough, so please bare with me for a moment as we get the foundational material of today's lesson taken care of."
A swift motion of his hand cause a piece of chalk that was resting on the ledge of the chalkboard at the front to rise. As it did so, the professor leaned against the edge of his desk and watched the words 'Isa' and 'Kenaz' be written. Once the chalk had done its job, it went back to its resting place which prompted the professor to turn his head toward the other bodies in the room.
"What is one thing you know about each of the runes written on the board?" Flamel asked them all, hoping that they had been keeping up with their reading for the class.
OOC: Class has officially begun, and I am so excited that you are all here! If you have yet to post in this lesson and wish to do so, act like your character has been here the whole time unless you want your character to show up late of course. ;)
To kick of the lesson, Flamel wants to pool everyone's knowledge of Isa and Kenaz together before diving right into the major parts of the lesson. Please try not to repeat something already said as there are a lot of answers that can be given -- anything about the two runes goes. Also, remember that both correct and incorrect answers will be accepted.
The lesson will continue in roughly 24 hours. Have fun!
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
One of the reasons why Dorian had not gone outside mucbh during the summer was because he had been reading his ancient runes textbook. Ok...that was a lie...he hadn't gone out because he simply had not want to go, you know, like any other teenager prefered to stay inside? But he HAD read up on some of his textbooks and had tried to learn some more so he was sure he could answer any questions asked to them!
The Ravenclaw automatically moved aside when the professor walked inbetween the students to stand at the front and his blue eyes looked the blackboard where the runes Isa and Kenaz had been written
"Isa is associated with ice and Kenaz is associated with fire" he said after raising his hand.
Here we go then. Time to show all the things he still didn't know about Ancient Runes, probably disappointing his namesake in the process. Not that Abra didn't want to be awesome at runes, it was more that he just couldn't for the life of him remember what all of them meant, and, for obvious reasons, he often read and wrote them all wrong, just like regular letters.
Oh! But that one! He knew that one! Isa. An easy one. Just a line, really, so difficult to misread, and sounded like 'ice', which was exactly what it meant.
Abra opened his mouth to say just that when... Katharos beat him to it. Well then. Abra paused for a moment, then raised his hand, being careful not to knock any candles. "With their magical uses, you can use Isa to sort of stop things. So you sort of freeze them in their tracks, like ice? I don't know if it freezes things by hardening them, but that would be cool too." Oh. Haha. Cool. That was funny. "Kenaz helps get rid of anxieties, I think." This stuck in his mind because of reasons.

Patrick was writing quickly before he had to stop and rub his shoulder trying to get rid of an itch. He raised his hand as he wrote down his own information about the runes. He always felt so lost. Like why did his textbook feel like it was translated into a foreign language and then translated into another from there. He usually felt as if he was reading random babble.
He heard the others mention their general properties. "Well the Kenaz can help with studying." he flipped back to his reading notes, "and Isa requires that you stay calm." at least that was what he thought he remembered reading he honestly wasn't too sure anymore.
Malachi raises his hand before adding what he knew, "Isa can reinforce runes around it from what I remember reading. I honestly don’t know much about Kenaz." After that he puts his hand down and listens to the others.

Zoryn was growing quite bored waiting for class to start. Any minute now, yeah?
Wait a minute... Was Maxton Carden coming to stand by here? To say she was surprised would be an understatement. He was a squirrel of a boy and typically opted to sit all by himself. And as far away from Zor as possible, btw. The Gryffindor turned, hearing him whisper to her. "....." And that's when realization struck her.
The Gryffindor felt RAGE shoot through her veins, as she narrowed her eyes and him. "You're a dead man, Carden." Because, yes, she fully understood what he was talking about. He was the culprit. She should've known.

There wasn't much else Zoryn could say or do, however, as their Professor began to address the class for the start of their lesson. Isa and Kenaz? Zoryn sort of knew stuff about these Runes as she was now in her seventh year and had gained some knowledge throughout her time here. Being confined to her dormitory for an entire month also meant that she had actually studied for once in her forsaken life. And so, yes, she knew things.
Did that mean she'd put effort into her answer?
"Both have two syllables."
Absolutely not.
He didn't specify that it had to be runic knowledge. He basically opened the floor up to ANYTHING. Syllables were a thing she knew about them. Mhm.

Hanna grinned and nodded. "Toasty," she said. She started to peel off some of the outer layers, rolled them up tight and into her bag.
As Professor Flamel commenced the lesson, he got all of Hanna's attention. Seeing the runes on the board, Isa and Kenaz. She listened to what was being said around her, and got stuck on Dorian's answer. Ice and Fire. She raised her hand and said "In uh N-Norse mythology, they believe fire and ice coming together caused the creation of the universe." Which... well, was that what she knew about the runes themselves, or just the ice and fire elements?

Valencia peered at the candle floating next to her. She was curious about that. This didn't seem like a normal classroom setup.
She raised her hand after the question was asked. "Isa means stillness. So like an idea after meditation. But Kenaz is more of an action." She offered.
