This thread is for IC purposes only. The members of the Slytherin Quidditch team will be selected by the Flying Official (potterobsessionist) and the Hogwarts RPG Admin (Zoe) after the completion of this survey.
The following team positions are available: 1 keeper, 2 beater, 2 chasers, 1 seeker, and 3 reserves.

Patrick grabbed his whistle from around his neck and gave a shrill TWEET for the players attention. Amplifying his voice he began to speak, "return to the ground now for quidditch tryouts." There was his back bone. He had this. There was zero reason to even question his abilities anymore. He was listening to his housemates talk about...LawrenceLucas' hair. He supposed green wouldn't be a bad idea, however the ever erinaceous Scrimgeour might deduct house points, but he supposed that was something for his prefects to worry about.
Turning his attention back to those on the ground he smiled, "alrighty. Today we're goin' to be doin' something a smidge different than years past. I figured since many of us are new, or transfers rather than have you pick a position now, we're going to be participating in a skills challenge." He grinned at his brilliant idea. Well it was mostly brilliant if everyone was a good sport about it.
"So for this we're going to go through different tasks and fun events to see who is the best at each skill set. The first seeker drill is a broom agility course to see how fast you can dodge sudden obsticals like the players who randomly pop up durin' a game." He pointed over toward the section of the field that he had gotten help in charming the dummies to fly around and bump into the seeker for that round.
"The first station for beaters is going to be an apple smash game. You're going to have apples thrown at you and whoever smashes the most apples wins. Even if you aren't wanting to be a beater" He loved playing this game as a child and would like to see his beaters able to smash as many as they possibly could. He figured even if the person wasn't their beater they would have fun.
"For the chasers you will be playing an egg toss while flying. This is to make sure you have soft hands when catching the quaffle in the air." Although he was pretty sure most of them would think it was stupid. He really didn't care. "And for the Keeper skills, we will be playing dodge ball collectively as a wrap up skill with all members trying out."
His hands went to his hips and he smiled out at the group. He really did have this whole captain thing down pat. "We're going to rotate through all but the keeper. Keeper will be the final skill set to be tested. Any questions?"
OOC: Hi friends, we'll likely be moving on in a day or two if we can, you can post about each skill set in a post or start and just meander through each skill set with your teammates. Text Cut: The games:
Seeker: fly through the dummies, avoid them and don't get knocked off
Beater: smash as many apples as possible, if you want you can rp throwing the apples to your teammate
Chaser: tossing eggs, don't forget to have one crack here and there.
Keeper: American dodgeball, a good idea of how it is played is throwing balls at a person to get them out, goal is to catch the ball or deflect it with another ball to not get out.
Having just about to ask 'why,' Ryder shut his mouth as he was already given that answer. As interesting as it was, it was a little too Gryffindor-esk for himself, but he'd maybe down for sporting his house colors. Perhaps before the first game if he made the team.
"Nice," he nodded, relaxing back on his broom.
And no wonder he didn't notice the hair before. The guy was a transfer...and he probably had different hair then come to think of it. Horrible decision coming to Hogwarts, really. "Ah, Ryder," he returned, his slight grin never wavering as the older Slytherin slipped up somewhat. He'd seen every second of that and it was glorious to witness. "You should go green next."

Yeah, Ryder witnessed that...but Lucas stayed grinning and just ruffled his hair in false confidence. "Ryder. Nice to know your name." He nodded.... "I think...green would awful on me...but perhaps. Maybe for our first game. If I make the team," he added quickly at the end because he didn't wanna' come off like...overly confident or big-headed.
House spirit, yeah? Lucas' dark eyes widened at the other guy. "I'm Lucas, by the way....I don't think I know your name?" Again, he was only a year here at Hogwarts and the kid could have been a transfer for all Lucas knew. "But I'll think on it if I make the team." Still a little doubtful the color would suit his features.

But Patrick landed and was suddenly sounding bossy for NO REASON AT ALL especially since half of them had landed before them. Lucas eyed him a bit but just nodded; he wasn't a snarky fellow unless you were Flynn Kowalski, and thankfully that guy was loooooong gone from here.
"I'll go chaser first--" he said quickly before anyone else could, verbally elbowing his way in as he hopped into his broom and took off to CATCH SOME EGGS! He was nervous because...that sounded so bloody hard. "Anyone else wanna' throw some eggs with meeeee?" he called out from the ~air.

Skyler raised an eyebrow. Patrick was sure being bossy, a bit out of character him. She shrugged. He was doing his job as captain so he needed to be a bit bossy right?
Tossing eggs?? Skyler quickly raised her hand.
"I do!" She called out to get Lucas' attention. Were they going to br doing this in the air or what?

"Yea, house spirit. Nothing bad looking about that. I'll do it with ya." You know, if they both actually made the team. But only if they used those hair colors that wash out since he didn't want to be looking like a pine tree for the remainder of the school term. There was probably a rule for that anyways now.
At the word 'challenge,' Patrick had his entire focus, though his grin faded somewhat as the tasks were presented. Challenges were fun and all, but only if he knew he would be good at them. Seekers and chasers weren't exactly his jam, so he was going to get to the beater task as fast as he could.
"Let's make some apple sauce," he grinned, grabbing a bat and an apple or three to throw at other members before zooming higher. There wasn't anything against the apples being smashed towards the tryout members... right?
He wasn't new or a transfer, but Gunnar still wasn't completely sure about what position he wanted. He was normally set on seeker, but after playing beater in a game last year, he really enjoyed that position as well. And then there was always keeper, which he often played at camp...
Gunnar figured he'd just do the challenges for all of them, and Patrick could figure out where he'd fit best. He just really did not want to be a reserve again. That was seriously just lame.
But using food in the trials? That was... well, it was weird. But it also seemed like it could be fun. So when Ryder mentioned making applesauce, he mounted his broom again and grabbed one of the bats on the ground. "Give me your best shot!" he called to him as he and his broom gained some height.

Patrick grinned as everyone started running toward their stations. Sure it was unconventional but he figured that it was a fun way to get his team member going. “That’s the spirit Lucas and Skyler! How far apart you two think you’ll get?” He was genuinely curious. On the ground no brooms was a bit harder than it looked.
Patrick’s eyes tracked Ryder heading off to the Apple smash. He truly loved that game and was glad to see that others might as well. Then he saw Gunnar head off toward the same station, “good to see that enthusiasm Gunnar. Show Ryder what you’re made off.” he laughed as he headed closer to the seeker station watching intently as someone flew around the dummies waiting to see if one bumped into them or if they stayed unscathed. He was very happy with his squads enthusiasm.
Zachary would have introduced himself to Lucas but suddenly it seemed Patrick had woken up or something. And would you look at that, he was actually showing some captain skills.
Resisting a jab about wasting food, he nodded along to Patrick's instructions before obviously deciding to go for Chaser task first. Kicking off, he followed after Lucas - "you know I heard egg is actually good for your hair" he shouted at him with a grin, before zooming forward.

Oh, Lucas has already taken off. He heard Skyler call out that she was going to join him, and he waved her to come uP INTO THE AIR. He grabbed an egg and tossed it gently at Sklyer to begin with. No need to be all hardcore right from the start! They could warm themselves up.
At least, that was what he thought until ZACHARY happened. EGG IN HIS HAIR? That meant--he whipped around, just to make sure Zachary hadn't tried to hum an egg at his head, and in the process he did a weird roll on his broom and DROPPED the egg had been holding on the ground. SPLAAAAAAAT.
Scrambled eggs, anyone?
He grabbed another one, swooping low to take them as he flew by, and threw it at Zachary - hopefully the boy was looking?????

As Skyler was in the air, she cought the egg, and then....SPLAT!!! Egg...in Zach's hair? Really now? She giggled and tossed the egg back only partly seeing where it went
Alright. She was going to do this, ALL of them – because what was better as a player – someone who was skilled at one position or someone that could do it all. Unhindered. ”I’ll do the egg toss in a bit…first, I’m tackling the seeker drill” Beth called over to Lucas and that group before she began.
Really, every player needed good dodging skills and that was what this was about right? Be fast, be agile, don’t fall off…that’s what seekers were about. Sure, she didn’t want to be a seeker but if it worked out she’d do it. Pushing forward she was heading toward the dummies. Her hands wringing about her broom for a moment before ducking left away from one of the dummies and pushing forward ever faster. I can do this she told herself, as she pushed faster.
I got this.
One of the Dummies collided with her shoulder but she didn’t cry out – she just kept moving. Just stayed on her broom and pushed ever faster, ever harder. Okay….okay this was boring she needed to do something else, ducking down she rolled her broom out of the seeker skill challenge area and moved over to her true calling.
The beater challenge. With a nimble tuck of her body she rolled and plucked a beater’s bat off of the ground without even dismounting and pushed over toward the Beater’s challenge. APPLESAUCE TIME. ”we got this” she called out, grinning all the while. We got this.
One two SMASH, one…waiting, waiting she watched the apples and swung her bat with ease. The movement was easy – each and every time her bat connected with the Apples she couldn’t help but grin. She was living for this – loving it. Her eyes scanned toward the pitch wondering really if anyone was watching this…more so if Eria and Dizzy were there…she had a feeling other people were there too to watch their friends tryout and maybe just maybe she was one of those friends.
Returning her attention to the task at hand she glanced over to Gunnar and Ryder. ”this is fun” she called out grinning all the while. With another apple smacked away she pulled back and dropped over to the Chaser’s challenge. The eggs, everyone seemed to be covered in them but that was fun wasn’t it? With a roll of her broom she reached out her hands and grabbed a few eggs before tossing them one at a time toward the others trying out. Her eyes scanning all the while for eggs flying through the air – there was one. Twisting toward it she reached out her hands and gingerly plucked it from the sky – it didn’t break. IT DIDN’T BREAK, she thought it was going to break. Tossing it back she moved to catch another but this time she wasn’t as lucky.
Eggs.
That was a mess.
”okay, next…” she muttered to herself as she wiped the egg off on the robes she was wearing fully intent on washing them later. She still had one skill to check – keeper.
A ball was floating toward her – hurtling really. Thrusting her arm into the air she simply swatted it away causing it to cascade toward someone else as she ducked out of the way of another ball. Ducking, twisting, catching – throwing. It was like a dance in the air – a choreographed piece of brilliance. With a smirk she pretended she had been hit and waited, slowly, for a ball to come her way before catching it and tossing it away with all of her might.

A bludger would be more welcome than the bloody egg, so the fifteen year old was definitely looking when the red haired boy aimed at him. Dipping low, he dodged it by an inch, before shouting back with a grin, "you gotta do better than that, mate"
Ugh, he had missed being in the air so much. Before Lucas could reply though, he grabbed an egg and suddenly turned to throw it straight at Skyler.
No time for giggles, you see.

Ah, this was getting good. And fun. Lucas hadn't been directly HIT by an egg yet, but he had dropped one. And that might look bad on him. He needed to show off a little bit, yeah? He saw Zachary pelting one at Skyler raaaaaaced to intervene, to catch it before it even had the CHANCE of hitting her. But he wasn't quick enough - it was either going to hit or not.
And so, he tossed another egg at Zachary. A little harder and faster this time.
HE NEEDED TO CATCH ONE HIMSELF THOUGH.

SPLAT!!!
The egg had hit her face.
Skyler wiped, tried to wipe the egg mess off her face. She half grinned.
"Really? Warning next time!" She giggled still a bit of egg mess in her hair
Maneuvering around, Ryder came to a hover as he looked for who it was that he was targeting. Although, mention of egg in someone's hair had him tracking those who were headed to the chaser task. DID SOMEONE HAVE EGG IN THEIR HAIR ALREADY?

"All right!" he called, spotting Gunnar. Didn't quite know him, may have seen him on the team the term before. With a momentary glance at Patrick at the sound of his name, Ryder swooped around and threw one of the apples he had towards the younger Slytherin.... and then another.
Hearing Patrick call over to him, Gunnar gave the captain a half-grin and thumbs up. He'd be sure to do just that, especially if Patrick was watching. He needed to impress the boy at least a little to ensure him a spot on the team.
And he was ready when Ryder threw the first apple. Putting his arm strength into the swing, his bat easily made contact with the fruit, smashing it into bits and sending flying apple pieces towards his housemate. "Nice one!" he grinned, but before he could react much more, another apple was headed his way.
He flew out just a bit further to ensure the right angle for his swing, but he hit it with a similar strength as he did the first one. Once again, a satisfying smash to the fruit resulted in flying apple bits.
Hearing Beth's voice, he turned as her apple pieces came flying his way and he gave the younger girl a thumbs up. But she didn't seem to be staying in this area long as she was off for another challenge. He was having too much fun here, to be honest, though he should probably head off for another before too long - specifically the seeker trials.
But for now, he was playing beater. Gunnar swooped down and grabbed a few apples himself, forgoing the beater's bat for now. "Your turn!" he called towards Ryder, figuring he could use his own chance and pulverizing fruit. And without another word, flew up and aimed an apple towards the other boy.... before waiting just a couple beats before throwing the second one.
