Despite the rain earlier that month, the weather for that particular day was significantly the opposite. That was, the air was warm and it was a beautiful morning outside. Unfortunately, the class could not be held outdoors as this particular lesson called for electronics to be used. More directly, they would be using the computers. Today’s setting was quite different from regular lessons. For one thing, a classroom was not being used but the Entertainment Room was. For another, the usual equipment that adorned the Room all seemed to have vanished (but were actually stashed safely and carefully at the back) and every computer that was available had been set up into rows and columns- much like a Muggle computer lab. There were long, rectangular tables that stationed five computers apiece and were accompanied by long benches. The furniture faced the front of the Room where Professor Kaysha’s trusted whiteboard now stood.
Where is your professor?
She’s at the desk temporarily brought in as she tries to focus on putting together future lesson plans. Given the recent occurrences at the School, Kay sometimes found this a challenge. Never the less, she looked up and greeted each arrival.

Skyler sighed, still not sitting down. The divination professor had everyone running around nervous, including herself, it was crazy. Her time at Hogwarts was supposed to be one of fun and excitement. Instead,they're sticking to strict regimion and military's styled days. .

Septimus was glad for the warmer weather, regardless of whether or not their latest class was there. It meant he was drier from morning exercises than he had been earlier in the week. And nice and cozy as he made his way upstairs towards the Entertainment Room. The name left some hope for an entertaining lesson which he could use amongst the surprises this term. At least Professor Stewart was a professor the third year liked…even despite the drama of his first year that involved the woman.
Speaking of which…
“Good morning, Professor,” he greeted with a polite smile. Oooo computers. He knew a little about them. Septimus moved to take a seat at one of the long tables in front of one of the muggle devices, taking out paper and pen but not touching anything else. He might not be concerned about just sitting like divination but he knew better not to deal with tech without instruction to.

Madison was always excited for this class, because she got to learn more about muggles and how they lived in a world without magic. It was pretty cool even if life was less convenient for them - not like they could wave a wand and make things happen.
Entering the classroom, she smiled at the professor. "Hello, Professor Stewart." It looked like they were going to be working with computers today, and she was not complaining about that. After waving to Rylee, she took a seat and waited for the lesson to begin.

“Hullo… Morning Professor Stewart,” Max greeted as he made his way into the entertainment room. One might think he sounded down in the dumps or glum, but this was just how he was first thing in the morning. Especially in recent weeks. It was hard being chipper when your legs constantly felt achy.
Muggle Studies could be hit or miss. There were some muggle things he was quite the expert at….. and then there were other things he was clueless with. Computers? They were somewhere in the middle.
He found himself a vacant spot at an empty workbench and stared at the blank monitor in front of him. With any luck, the coffee he downed at breakfast would kick in soon.

She knows ir wouldn't help things but come on, at least she would look a bit better.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Uhhhh okay. Seats were filling up fast around the Computers. Marks want to find a seat near the front-middle or middle-front or what have you seemed to be a plan he could no longer implement. He looked and looked until he spotted an open seat at the back.
It was unfortunate but if that is where he must go then go he must. "Hello Professor Stewart." He greeted his Head of House then moved along to sit at the back. Claiming his computer.
Oh! Hey he wasn't alone back here. "Heya..." He greeted the Head Girl "...uh Jessa." That was correct yes? He hadn't interacted with her much, but she had let him pet and hold her pet kneazles. So she wasn't one of the Crazy Claws and he felt fine having to sit beside her.

Nettie hadn't been in the best of moods lately, with all this running nonsense and just the general air of foreboding that seemed to be hanging over the castle. It REALLY put a damper on her birthday month, and it was her THIRTEENTH birthday month. It was basically the most important birthday she'd ever had up until this point and it was just...blah. Not as magical as she wanted it to be.
Her mood perked up though when she saw all the computers. OOOOOH were they going to play games? She hoped so!
She plopped down at a computer and sat down, waiting for Professor Stewart to begin.

Chloe wanted to touch one of those electronic boxes that the professor had set up for them, but they were all turned off. Or they were dark, which Chloe was pretty sure meant that they weren't turned on. She grinned broadly at some of her classmates as she passed (Jessa, Derfy, Julie, Stas, little Chloe...) and she waved at the Professor.
"Good day, Professor. Nice set up you have here." Chloe claimed a seat by little Chloe and tugged the younger girl's hair.

Patrick loved coming to muggle studies it was his escape. A class he was actually good at. But he was so drained from all the stress of Quidditch and passing divination and all of that. He really hoped that he would be able to figure this term out. How in the world did Skylar do it? With a quick glance here and there he took note of all the various activities going on among his classmates. Pulling an apple out of his bag he snapped into it and watched the others intently enjoying not thinking. Honestly thought he was really confused with why there were computers in the room. This ought to make for a good laugh, “Hey Professor how’s it going?” he almost stopped mid sentence because he was afraid to say too much to a professor now... divination and all.

“Good morning, Ms. Cambridge,’’ the woman said with a small smile, her pen lingering over her notebook. By now, she had suspected that Jessa disliked her though the girl had never said nothing to her. Then again, quite a bit of students’ attitude to her had changed after it was revealed she had been possessed. It must be even worse for Jessa now that Kay was Head of House. Blowing out air slowly and softly through her mouth, she watched a little sadly as Jessa head for the very back of the class.

Lucas was very much starry-eyed as he walked into this classroom setup. It wasn't because of the computers themselves but what they meant: that this was going to be an EXCITING lesson. "Hey, Miss ... Professor!" He chirped brightly as he moved into the classroom and found himself a nice little seat in front of the computer. Hiiiiiiii, boo.
The gasp made her look up hastily? Was something wrong? Did someone somehow get hurt? Kay relaxed when she saw it was Dezi in apparent excitement and high spirits. The professor beamed. “Computers indeed, Mr. Willard. Hello to you too!’’

No, it was more that she had complicated feelings toward the professor. Last term, she’d distrusted her, given the lingering trauma over having been possessed and the professor’s involvement in that. However, this term she nearly liked her, and above all she didn’t want Professor Stewart’s vocal protesting of the circumstances of the term to end up with her being dismissed. The concept of consequences had become infinitely more terrifying.
At least she didn’t have to worry about breathing wrong, as she’d walked into the Entertainment room for the next lesson. Plus, she was very familiar with that room, courtesy of having fallen asleep inside several times last term with Koen. The change to the room had been very evident, therefore, but she’d still sent the professor a bright smile as she made her way to an open seat near Lucas. “Good morning Professor Stewart!”, she said just as brightly, before giving the little firstie next to her a smile too.
Another one of her best students! The bright smile was a welcome one and Kay returned it. “Good morning, Ms. Dalgaard- Volkova!’’

Although she knew that wasn't true Professor Marchand who was her head of house was really nice, maybe all of them weren't soulless.
Taking a seat beside her fellow housemate Lucas. " Hey, how are you feeling? I seen you doing pushups in Divinations looked brutal." she said frowning. Seeing the older Lucas she met at the playground in Diagon Alley she waved at him.
“Hello, Ms. Starson! I’m great, thank you for asking. I hope you are too.’’ Hopefully the crazy new rules were not taking a toll on her.

Less eye contact was good right or was it more eye contact, she was second guessing everything and the anxiety of making things worse was getting to her. Finding a seat in the middle of the room she turned and stared at the chair before looking towards everyone else. They were sitting so it was okay, right?
"We are allowed to sit, aren't we professor?"
Should she have asked that? Maybe she'd be made to run or do something else for just even asking. A shiver went through her as she kept her eyes down and looking at the seat.
Kay reread a note she had just written on her book regarding a lesson and frowned. No, that would not work for the activity. She crossed the note out then peered up at Chloe. “Good morning, Ms. McCarthy.’’ There was her smile which faltered as she sat up straighter. “You most certainly can. I refuse to have my lessons be run as though they were military lessons.’’

"Hey," he grinned, setting his bag down on the floor next to his seat and glancing at the computer screen. Though his attention soon swiveled back around to look at Stasya - though he overheard the conversation between the first years about push ups and...Divination.
But...anyway.
"Hey, after we finish our patrol later...you wanna go down to the grounds and practice runes again?" She would know what that meant.
“Good morning, Mr. Ashburry- Hawthorne!’’ Kay smiled in return as she watched the creature-loving boy as she took a seat with his friends.

“Hello, Ms. Goodman.’’ She was a little puzzled, though, at the soft greeting and minimal eye contact. Penny was offered a friendly smile still.

Oh, it was going to be a fun lesson. For professor Stewart watching him fail with those, that is.

How right she had been when she had tried to tell Scrimgeour that the kiddos would burn out before they got through their lessons daily? “Mr. Yoon. Hello. Rylee was feeling more like herself this morning and it showed as she entered the entertainment room. There was a gentle spring in her step and a warm smile on her face. "Morning, Professor Stewart!" she greeted instantly, seeking out the women right away as per usual.
"We're working with computers today? Awesome!" Seriously! This just made her day a whole lot better. Spotting Dorian already seated, Rylee wandered over towards him and plopped herself down beside him on the bench. "Hey, Declan," she teased quietly. "Think we'll be learning how to program our own games?" Did he remember how they had talked about that last term in this very room while playing video games?
Chances were slim that they would be playing video games today but getting to work on computers was just as cool and whatever was going to happen she was ready for. Bring on the fun professor!
The Gryffindor looked very happy which was a welcome sight to Kay’s eyes. “Hello, Ms. Prichard! Yes, we will be. I’m sure you’ll love today’s lesson.’’

It was not to say she knew anything at all about how it worked internally or even how to turn it on without someone else’s help, but the seventh year was confident in her abilities and was certain she’d figure it out one way or the other. Julie happened a glance about the room and spied Derfael joining a bunch of younger years and Stasya. She smiled at the Hufflepuff and offered him a soft wave of hello before turning her eyes to Professor Stewart.
“Hello Professor, nice day for a lesson indoors, isn’t it?” Julie, of course, was joking.
Was Julie alright? Kay tried to observe her but only succeeded in seeing the Slytherin focus on the computer. But at the greeting and joke, she laughed. “Good morning, Ms. Bellaire. It’s a pity I couldn’t have this lesson outdoors, I know.’’

Kay was definitely not amused at the sight of another tired student. The Student Leaders had more on their plate with patrol and tryouts and what not. Hence, a tired Abra did not come as a surprise to her. Those mandatory exercises... UGH. They made her angry and she made up her mind to air her views yet again to Scrimgeour. “Good morning, Mr. Botros!’’

And then she chose a computer where she had a good view of the computer. And it happened to be near Julie Bellaire, who received a tired look. "If I fall asleep, just let me die here."

Computers! It was always amazing to Bel when somehow the magic of Hogwarts didn't interfere with muggle technology stuff for the purposes of learning and such. She'd settled in and was pretty quick to put her hand up at the question. If she'd understood it right then the answer...
"The internet, professor?" Best way to check how the surf was! Which honestly was the main thing she ever used it for at home. Having a muggle parent and a muggleborn parent meant that of course it was the norm for her family, even if they weren't really the sort who spent lots of time using it, it was just there.

Skyler blinked yeah, she had no idea about what she was even talking about. She hadn't had the first clue about a computer much less what she was talking about. Skyler remained silent, a bit afraid to answer anyway. What and have her answer be wrong because she obviously knows what the question is even though she's a pureblood? She let out a small sigh rolling her eyes in annoyance. She then tensed afraid that she would be called out on about her sighing as the side effects of her inner thoughts leaked out into the world. The look of fear was evident on her face.
It was nice to have some classmates he felt comfortable with. He smiled again at Skyler and then listened as Professor Stewart started class. YAY COMPUTERS. Lucas looooooved computers. Making sure his wand was deeeeeply tucked away in his backpack in a specially made holster thing, he eyed Bel's answer.

Yeah.
What else was there to say now? Lucas just nodded at Bel and Bettie. "What they said. The internet is the same thing as the world wide web, right? THat's why websites usually start W W W dot...right?" Even if he was getting ahead of himself, he couldn't help his curiosity. It was nice to feel SAFE in his curiosity unlike in Professor Blegh-er's class. Ugh. Just the thought of him made Lucas make a barf face, which hopefully no one thought was about them. WHOOPS.

It wasn't too long before the boy he had met briefly in the quidditch shop sat near them as well - though offered neither him nor the other first years around them a greeting. Cool beans. Though he did nod his head at him since, well, it would be awkward to just stare at him for a few seconds and look away. Not very Derf-like, you know?
Though soon class was beginning and, well, there really was only one answer to that question and it had already been offered up a few times...so the Hufflepuff tried to pick at his brain for something else to bring up. Something that maybe he had seen in one of those muggle TV crime dramas that his dad was so fond of. Cybercrime, which was kinda fun to say, had come up a bunch of times in varying degrees and was, you know, kinda a huge thing in the muggle world. Thankfully not something they at Hogwarts had to worry about so much.
.................or did they?
Holy hippogriffs...what if chizpurfles were to nibble away at a computer infested with one of those virus thingies that one could get from the internet? Would they get sick too? Would said virus then somehow mutate into something magical and spread once said chizpurfles moved on and infested the fur and feathers of other creatures?
.......he was zoning out quite a bit at the moment, thinking and going way way way off tangent with what the actual question had been and expected answer.
There was also some song he had heard about the internet being for....corn was it?
Right. What had the question been?
OH BUT WAIT!
"Isn't...er...aren't...the Internet and the...World Wide Web two different things?" At least he thought some technology savy muggle on one of the shows had rambled on about that once or twice. Derf, on the other hand, mostly thought about spiders when webs were brought up. "Well...not two DIFFERENT things but one is inside the other ... or something... and they aren't syn...syn...synonymous?"

Stella looked over at the older Lucas and waved at him. " Hello Lucas." she said from her seat. Seeing some of the students standing she bit her lip. Were they suppose to be standing? Oops... shaking she stood up and seen Beth and Derf the Hufflepuff prefect she remembered what happened in Divinations and shivered slightly. " H..hello, sorry about what happened in Divinations that was brutal. " she said to him. Seeing Daniel she waved at him oh... Rylee was here, waving at her to she seen the Professor talking.
Stella bit her lip, she was a halfblood and her mother was muggleborn but she didn't know much about computers other how to use them but she knew some. Stella raised her hand. " Usually that's the internet isn't it? computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources so that isn't right is it?" Stella asked. Oops..she was rambling blushing she remained quiet.

He'd almost walked by professor Stewart as it had taken him longer to process that she was still talking to him, but stopped in his tracks with a deer caught in the headlights look on his face. Wash his... face? Oh. She was likely talking about the lifeless look on his face. Did he look that lifeless? Shaking his head with a smile, he said, "Thank you, professor. I'm fine, I promise I won't fall asleep in class." Maybe he'll ask Beth to poke him in extreme cases.
Speaking of Beth, he jumped in his seat when he felt fingers through his hair. He waved back to Stella as he'd caught her eye and, before he even registered what Beth was saying, she was seated next to him and being very... Beth. "Of course, friend," he grinned, unsure why Beth put all that emphasis on friend, but he was going to play along.
Anyway. Computers.
Professor Stewart had already lost him when she mentioned... hard..ware... and... soft..ware? Were there solid pieces, and squishy ones... within the computer thingy? What in the world did they mean? Needless to say, he had no clue what network muggles used to gather information... he knew what phones were, but that was about it.

Computers. Yes, one of muggle's greatest technology of the past. But who still used them nowadays? Certainly not his mother. He snickered at the thought. Hmm...Professor Steward mentioned hard-ware and soft-ware programmes which he didn't know exist until now. What were they used for? Were they components to build a single computer? ....But how could a ware be...soft? He wondered if the insides of the computer were made from soft-like materials....like sponges or cotton? That would be interesting to see.
Nathan let the others answered. There was no need for him to chip in when the answer he already thought of first has been given. It must be called the in-ter-net. But he was curious of its usage, so he raised his hand. "They used the internet to....do some research too, don't they?"
Natasha raised her hand to answer. "The internet is used for global communication and sharing of resources, whether it be information down to playing games. The internet is one of the best resources muggles have for quickly communicating regardless of distance." She said, just loud enough to be heard.

Patrick blushed yeah he knew the rule for the day but hadn’t thought about it. Between SORE, classes, and quidditch he was always starving. Plus he had a computer at his house and they ate and drank by it all the time. Even the library didn’t care back home. But he figured he should apologize before he got himself in trouble, “Sorry.” he pitched the Apple, “guess I forgot since we ate near ours at home.” his blush deepened. He was a student leader he was supposed to be making a good example. But he hard the headmaster, and Fletcher most days annoyed him with his no nonsense. He missed the fun times they used to have.
Raising his hand and getting a little run over from rules. There were so many this term. He stated, “well there’s the internet, but back in the day there ere different providers to get that service. My friends always talk of how slow it was. But we use it for everything from gaming, emails, to video chatting. Kind of funny how it brings people together.” he hoped his answer was sufficient and his mistake of eating would be overlooked.
Despite being pureblood, Abra had actually known what these things were. That was about it, though, anything beyond that was completely out of his scope of knowledge. He had had a friend, back before Hogwarts, a muggle friend from his drama club whose house he had visited just the once and whose computer they had played on. Even back then Abra had known how important it was to ACT and not appear as stunned and amazed by the machine as he had felt, though, looking back, he wasn't sure how successful he had been.
Hardware? Software? Programmes? Abra's tired brain struggled to make much sense out of these words and he tried to work out whether or not he had heard them before. Most likely, he hadn't.
When the question was asked, Abra wracked his brains for a moment or two, but the answer only came to him once he heard Bel say it. It was hard to decide whether he had already known and she had jogged his memory, or if his brain was trying to just go right ahead and steal the answer and pretend he knew it. Either way, that was what he thought it was, so Abra, not wanting to repeat it (especially if he WAS accidentally stealing the answer), kept quiet and waited to see if he was likely to be able to contribute anything of value in response to the next question.
He somehow doubted it.

The grin on her lips lingered when Dorian called her Rosie. Failing to hide the giggles when he gasped, Rylee nodded fast. "Wouldn't it! You never know!" Perhaps if they showed enough interest in whatever it was they were going to be learning about today Professor Stewart would be willing to teach them a bit of coding if she knew how to do so herself.
Spotting someone waving in her general direction she turned her head just in time to see if was her fellow Gryffindor. Smiling she wiggled her fingers at the younger lioness, Stella.
Oh, the lesson was starting. Rylee shifted on the bench to listening to what was being said by Professor Stewart. The answer was easy. It was already being said several times over. The world wide web also known as the internet. There really wasn't any need for her to repeat it again. Swinging her feet back and forth beneath the bench she kept quiet waiting for the next question.

Hanna had a vague idea about computers. She knew how to turn one on, and on some computers she knew how to open up some games. But that was about as far as she'd been. At school, they didn't do a lot on them because it wasn't a very technology driven school. This was what her parents wanted, though. Hogwarts wouldn't have all the technologies muggles were used to using, so they didn't feel it was overly necessary for her to learn how to use them. Her school had done a lot of paper work, and used books for research. That was how she liked it, though. Books were one of her favourite things, and had never let her down. She didn't ever rely on a computer, so she didn't know a lot about them.
That was why the thirteen-year-old Ravenclaw was lost for information when it came to Professor Stewart's question. She didn't know what the network she was talking about was. Some of her classmates DID however, and Hanna took note of every suggestion.

Zoryn rolled her eyes at Skyler, before turning around so that her back was facing the girl. In other words, 'no thanks'. She'd rather shave her head than use some random's hairbrush. And as far as getting up to go wash her face went, Zoryn would take a hard pass on that one too. She couldn't be bothered.
Besides, the lesson was just about to start. Wouldn't want to miss out on it, would she now?
