| | Herbology Lesson One: Watch out for the vines they like flesh! IC DATE, Time, Location: Monday morning September 10th, 2096. Greenhouse Three @ 08.30 AM.
It was such a nice early fall morning outside, the weather was mild on what was promising to be a nice 10th September day, not very warm yet, but not very cold either. Holding a morning class was just how Joshua liked it. It was then that minds of the students were most alert and ready to learn. Hopefully the smell of damp soil and cool air in Greenhouse three where this morning’s lesson is being held, won’t cloud your senses too much.
As you enter greenhouse three the first thing you notice is that all the student work tables have been pushed together to create one long and wide octagonal table with the professors desk at the head and behind it a battered blackboard. On the table in front of each student workspace and cushioned chair a potted green, spiky, toothsome big and blooming plant, to the point of overgrowth with long mobile vines awaits it’s student carer. Yes, you might have guessed it already we’re working with the venomous tentacula today! They are sneaky and poisonous so stay alert and have your wand ready to evade the tentacula’s vines if needed.
Waiting just inside the door for the student's arrival Professor Wishart cautions each student as they pass by him "Welcome, please pull on your dragon hide gloves before you take a seat at the table! Be wary of the plant's mobile vines, they like to grab onto flesh. I don't like swearing in my classroom, but today I'll make an exception if the plants gets too playful and close." OOC: Welcome to Herbology class! If you haven’t done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site rules. Note that IC this will not be the first lesson your student will have had with Professor Wishart this term.[U]Have fun! Class has started! Class Progression: Arrivals + First Question - Name One trait of the Venomous Tentacula. Question 2 - How can we extract tentacula juice? What should we keep in mind when dealing with poisonous plants? Mini activity - Feed your tentacula and assess its other needs. Main activity - Trim your tentaculas leaves and extract its juice. Class dismissed! - That's all folks! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Daehyun "Daniel" Yoon Third Year | As they gathered around professor Wishart, Daehyun bit his lips nervously, since he had already... kind of... given his tentacula a trim. He turned to Beth who had done the same, with the silent question in his eyes. Are we in trouble?
... but it didn't seem likely. Okay. Good.
As they returned to their workbenches, he watched Beth in amusement, her head nearly dropping due to sleepiness. He was tempted to poke her side - it ought to wake her up, but he didn't want to risk her screaming in surprise and get the both of them in trouble. So he was going to keep an eye on her and make sure she wouldn't get a concussion if her head was going to drop on the table.
Now, onto the next task. Why did professor Wishart make having your skin turn purple sound not fun at all? It would've been awesome to try! But he was going to hold in his curiosity any not drink any of the juice. Yep, he was on his best behaviour. After fetching a bowl and setting it next to the pot, Daehyun fed the tentacula another chizpurfle and waited for it to become all mellow and sleepy again, before lifting it from its pot, careful not to pull on any of the roots or damage them. With his free hand, he squeezed and squeezed, muttering silent apologies to the tentacula. It can't be a nice feeling to have your roots squeezed, can it?
Once all the juice was in the bowl, he made sure the tentacula was nice and comfy back in its pot, and added some fertilizer, too. Patting the soil lightly, he finished the task by adding some water, and he was done.
Well, nearly. He used a funnel to move every last drop of juice into a vial that he'd labelled with his name, and set out to complete his notes.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Natasha Destler First Year | "Looks like I'll have to pick you up in a minute, please don't kill me." Natasha tried to reason with her plant. She looked through the vines to find the bushy spots. "Diffindo....diffindo....diffindo...." She repeated until her plant was trimmed neatly enough. She walked over to fetch a bowl, vial, and funnel, then returned, laying the items neatly in front of her. Carefully picking her plant up, she held it by the root ball over the bowl and squeezed....nothing happened at first, so she squeezed harder, until the juice started dripping into the bowl. She had a hard time maintain the proper amount of pressure, but got the last of the juice just in time. She placed the plant back into the pot and covered the roots with soil. Taking the funnel and vial, she carefully poured the juice into the vial, then plugged it off. She quickly made a label for it Quote:

Hogwarts RPG Name: Bettie Monroe Slytherin First Year | Hair tie issue Our gal Sherlock Betties went to the shelves and grab a bowl, funnel and some vials for the juice of the plant. Then Bettie used Flipnsnipt to trim off some of the leaves so the tentaculas was less bushy.
Everything was going smoothly until Bettie was about to take the tentaculas out of the pot. This was when her hair tie decided this was a great time to brake. Even though the plant was drowsy some of it vines still moved a little and they wrapped around the ends of a few strands of hair. She found it was not to big of a problem to finished what she was doing. Maybe a little tricky but not a hindrance. So she decided to finish then she would ask the professor for help with this little problem.
Betties pulled the plant out of the pot and held it over the bowl while she squeezed it tightly until all the juice was out. Then she put the plant back into it pot and covered the roots with dirt and gave it a little water. Bettie then set the plant still having a hold of her hair to the left hand side out of the way and with her head slightly tilted to the left she carefully poured the juice through the funnel into the vial and labeled them Bettie Blackwell, First Year, Slytherin and set them aside. Then she moved the plant in front of her and called the professor for help with her little problem.

"I don't exactly know how Hogwarts works yet, but so far it seems the professors don't really want the students to be all that proactive" he commented, as he continued casting diffindo and randomly trimming his own plant. "Mine .. seems very compliant, almost too compliant actually" he added before actually listening to the professor for the first time since the lesson started - and then glanced at the head girl again. "seems like you will be done soon" Since she was a step or two ahead than most of the class already.
He was almost tempted to ask her to do his too at this point because ugh, the next step just seemed disgusting and messy. Nonetheless, he proceeded to lift the lethargic plant from it's pot. The Ravenclaw, nodded mildly at the Professor’s question. She thought it’d been obvious that was her reason for her questions. Why ask if she didn’t genuinely want to know the answer? It had nothing to do with trying to show anyone up. The young girl had simply been curious.
Jessa was good at paying attention to many things at once, the biggest proof being the way her mind seemed brilliantly adept at freaking out about multiple things at any given time. It could be considered a gift if it wasn’t more often a curse. So yeah, engrossed as she was with the task at hand, Jessa had very much caught his comment and with her waiting for her plant to get it’s meal a little more digested, she had all the attention. “I’d say that’s an accurate assessment, yes. They get really jittery when you start showing interest in things outside of what the curriculum outlines. Terrifying, really. Students deciding to think. Before you know it, we’ll be wanting to have solid ideas.” She did little to hide the cynicism, glancing only briefly at the Professor as he gave the next set of instructions. As it turns out, she’d already done those things while conducting her own experiments, leaving her to nod when that Zachary guy confirmed the same. “Mhm, trimmed and juiced. I wanted to get a second sample, a before and after to compare.” And with that, she reached for the tentacles again and began squeezing into a second container. “Maybe yours can’t be bothered. Knows it’ll be thwarted with a light smack and surrendered early.” She continued squeezing until she had enough. That’s when she heard the man’s comment about venomous and poisonous being the same thing.
The Ravenclaw bit the inside of her cheek, noting Derf had decided to object so she wouldn’t have to. The man already thought she undermining him, she would keep her opinions to herself.
Neither container had her name on it, because she planned to submit neither.

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight After the practical demonstration from the professor, Abra got what he needed from the back of the greenhouse, returned to his own workspace and set his sights back on the Tentacula he was working on. So. Leaves first. That was easy; five years of Herbology classes meant Abra had used the Trimming Charm plenty of times before. He supposed the main difficulty here was to do so whilst avoiding the vines and making sure the plant held still, because, you know, it was still moving around just a bit. And he would be opting for the Trimming Charm, because the Severing Charm always seemed a little brutal for trimming purposes. "Flipnsnipwitit," Abra said, pointing his wand at some of the more bushy areas of leaves on his Tentacula, before having to quickly jerk his hand back before the plant could grab hold of his wand. A little more wary the next few times, he continued the spell again, and again, doing the best job he could at trimming those extra leaves down but never exactly lingering too close to the plant. Yes, it had been devenomed, yes, it had eaten itself into sedation, but those vines were still moving - though not nearly as energetically as before it had been fed - and seemed to be very interested in his wand and, as this was his second one, he had no intention of surrendering it.
With that done, it was time for the without a doubt trickier operation of extracting the juices, which was about as pleasant as it had sounded. Stowing his wand safely away again, Abra did exactly as he had seen Professor Wishart do - except maybe a touch more gingerly. He lifted the Tentacula up out of its pot, all the while leaning his whole upper body back and as far from those vines as he could get, and held it over a bowl. Uncertainly at first, as though he was not quite sure he was doing this entirely right, he began to squeeze the Tentacula. Instantly, the juice started to flow, and Abra had to quickly readjust his hold on the plant so that he got the fluid into the bowl. Satisfied that he was apparently doing it right, Abra squeezed a little more firmly until he was relatively certain that all the juice was out.
Leaving the bowl to one side for the moment, Abra returned the Tentacula to its pot and moved some of the soil around to pack it on top of the roots. When it was all in and secure, he went back to the bowl of juice and worked on funnelling it into a vial. All of it. The whole juicy lot. That done, he quickly scribbled out a barely-legible label and stuck it to the vial: Abra Botros, Grifindor.
Now that he was all finished up, Abra had just enough time to tend to his Tentacula's other needs. He collected some fertiliser - very glad for the thickness of the gloves he was wearing - and deposited it on top of the soil the plant was sitting in, before getting his wand out again and watering it with, "Aguamenti."
There. Done. The plant was milked juiced and otherwise tended to, and Abra had a labelled vial of plant fluid all ready to hand in. With one eye on the professor, he settled into his seat and cleared up the workspace as best he could.

| Swedishfish Girl! Madame Librarian! Jess's Soul Sister! Sweetest Swede! After glancing at the clock above the greenhouse door Joshua decided that it was enough for the day. He headed back towards his desk as he slid off his gloves. His hands were a bit sweaty. "Okay, everyone! The activity is a wrap!" He announced feeling elated, but it didn’t show on his face as he spoke eyes wandering over the many student faces. "I'm not sure if everyone heard Bel’s question from earlier. The difference between venomous and poisonous plants is this; venomous plants such as the tentacula we’ve worked with today deliver their venom through biting their target and actively injecting them with their venom via fangs, stingers or similar. A poisonous plant can only poison you if you eat it or touch it with your skin. That’s way its important to always wear your gloves and work robes to class." Professor Wishart paused for a moment before he announced "Class is dismissed! Before you leave please leave your juice vials on my desk on your way out and please be dears and return all the materials you used for the practical back to the appropriate shelves. You can leave your tentacula plants on your workstations. I will take care of them later."
This was a long lesson but hopefully the students enjoyed it, he certainly had. He craved a late bun and some coffee after he had finished up in the greenhouse. Ooc: Class dismissed! I'll leave the thread open for some hours in case you want to post your charrie leaving or wrapping up your practicals. Thank you for playing and staying with me even if there was some confusion and so on.

| ❅ Purple Lightsaber ❅| | Captain Sarcastic | Now that her plant was looking, somewhat more presentable that it had at the beginning of lesson. Or at least a little more better than before. She had to do the gross part now.
Moving her bowl closer to her and the plant, so the bowl was right there in her reach. With her gloves still on she lifted up her plant, took a tentacle and squeezed it. She squeezed it into the bowl. Maybe that wasn’t as gross as she thought it was.
Not bad at all actually.
Sticking the funnel into the vial she poured the contents of the bowl into the vial. She sat the plant back down on the table. Then she labeled the vial. Quote:

Now maybe if someone could give it a little sunlight every now and then maybe the plant would live a long life. Maybe.
Relieved that the lesson was finally over she gathered all of her things, got up and placed the vial on the professor's desk and headed on out of the greenhouses.

Hanna nodded and went off carefully with her bowl, making sure not to splash any of the juice. She poured her excess juice into the bowl on Professor Wishart's desk, and went back to her work station. She pulled her wand back out and pointed at the bowl saying "Scourgify," to it, and cleaning all of the juice from inside. Best not to keep contaminated equipment. The same went for the funnel she used to pour it into her vial.
She put everything back to where it belonged, packed up her own belongings, and as she walked out of Herbology she put her vial of juice on Professor Wishart's desk. "See you next time Professor," she said as she left.
