Herbology Lesson One: Watch out for the vines they like flesh!
IC DATE, Time, Location: Monday morning September 10th, 2096. Greenhouse Three @ 08.30 AM.
It was such a nice early fall morning outside, the weather was mild on what was promising to be a nice 10th September day, not very warm yet, but not very cold either. Holding a morning class was just how Joshua liked it. It was then that minds of the students were most alert and ready to learn. Hopefully the smell of damp soil and cool air in Greenhouse three where this morning’s lesson is being held, won’t cloud your senses too much.
As you enter greenhouse three the first thing you notice is that all the student work tables have been pushed together to create one long and wide octagonal table with the professors desk at the head and behind it a battered blackboard. On the table in front of each student workspace and cushioned chair a potted green, spiky, toothsome big and blooming plant, to the point of overgrowth with long mobile vines awaits it’s student carer. Yes, you might have guessed it already we’re working with the venomous tentacula today! They are sneaky and poisonous so stay alert and have your wand ready to evade the tentacula’s vines if needed.
Waiting just inside the door for the student's arrival Professor Wishart cautions each student as they pass by him "Welcome, please pull on your dragon hide gloves before you take a seat at the table! Be wary of the plant's mobile vines, they like to grab onto flesh. I don't like swearing in my classroom, but today I'll make an exception if the plants gets too playful and close."
OOC: Welcome to Herbology class! If you haven’t done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site rules. Note that IC this will not be the first lesson your student will have had with Professor Wishart this term.[U]Have fun! Class has started!
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
A lot of things were happening during the lesson already and it wasn't even the plants doing it. A few students lost points for saying bad things about their new Headmaster, something that made Dorian shake his head but he wasn't too bothered this time because none of the students who had lost points were from Ravenclaw. So it was all good.
Next up was Derf shooting spells at the plant in front of him and missing quite obviously. Had the plant attacked him? The fourth year hadn't seen what happened because he had been too busy eyeing his own plant in case it started to lash out but from what he guessed, the Prefect must have nearly hit someone with a spell.
But out of all the things that were happening, it was Jessa's question about the plants venom that made him look away from his own plant and at her. Was she for real? Shouldn't she be glad that the plants had their venom removed so that they could study it in SAFETY instead of complaining about it? Merlin's Beard he was happy that the venom had been removed. That meant he wasn't that close to dying today. Or well, atleast getting poisoned cause he had the feeling it would hurt.
Shaking his head again, but remaining silent, the Ravenclaw stood up from his seat and walked over to the barrel with the dead chizpurfles inside. As he waited for the students in front of him to grab some, Dorian checked if his dragon hide gloves were not showing any skin and when it was his turn he picked up a couple of the crab-like creatures before walking back to his station to feed the plant.
After scribbling random facts he didn't already know on a piece of parchment, Daehyun eyed the overly friendly plant in front of him. Its vines still tried to sneakily wrap around his arms, and each time he had to pry them off. He wasn't going to severe any vines off, unless the tentacula needed a trim. But on to that later.
First, he needed to feed the little fella. His nose scrunched in distaste at the sight of dead chizpurfles - did they really have to...? He never liked the sight of any sort of dead creature, even if these were only chizpurfles... it still unnerved him. Nevertheless, he grabbed a couple before returning to his workstation, and the venomous tentacula was more than happy to get a snack.
Now, time to observe its needs. He always liked to start with the soil, so he pushed a finger through it, only to find it dry. Definitely needed water, and a bit of fertilizer wouldn't hurt, either. Muttering a soft "Aguamenti" as he pointed his wand towards the soil, he watered it just the right amount, careful not to drown the plant.

Plant observation notes: the soil was dry; added a little bit of fertilizer, too.
The vines look like they could use a trim.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy noticed that the condition of the Tentacula's soil was slightly resembling arid sand so she aimed her wand at the soil and non-verbally cast, "Aguamenti." She then noticed that one of the Tentacula's vines had grown and was slowly creeping towards her like some sort of rope. Daisy pointed her wand at it as she whispered, "Diffindo," which neatly severed the new growth without causing harm to the rest of the plant. The Hufflepuff wrote down more notes regarding her observations.
SPOILER!!: Notes

Plant observation notes: The Tentacula seemed in need of some nutrients so I fed it a dead chizpurfle which has made it a bit docile which makes for further inspection being a tad more doable. The soil is in possible need of some water.
The soil seemed to be arid in quality so I provided a small amount of water. It was enough to replenish the soil without turning it into mud and new vine growth appeared on the plant which began to journey towards me. I used a Severing Charm for protection. The plant hasn't been harmed in the process.

Squeezing them tight over a container? Good grief. That was getting up close and personal to the plants, for sure. But no, there was MORE up close and personal before squeezing their juice out. Hmm... well it wasn't in Hanna to back out of a dangerous situation, as scared as she might be. It was the tiny amount of Gryffindor she was SURE she had in her.
She wrote some things down on her parchment, and got to work.
Chizpurfles were nasty things, and Hanna was glad they were dead. They'd found some on their pet Crup. She wasn't sure how many Chizpurfle carcases it would take to feed the plant, but she'd give it a go with a handful of the small parasites. Heading back to her plant with a little nervousness, she decided to stand in front of it rather than sit. Easier to escape from. Her wand was in the holster, easily accessible. Taking her hand of Chizpurfles, she threw five of them towards the plant, and after a quick thought that she had just wasted some of them, the plant reacted so quickly she JUMPED and threw the rest of the Chizpurfles behind her from her reaction. The vines SNAPPED up all of the Chizpurfles she had thrown at it, and began extending their vines towards the floor behind her where she had dropped the remaining Chizpurfles. Hanna lept backwards to avoid the vines.

Stella had her deal of gardening things at home, but this was a whole new level of gardening. She was going to be dealing with a plants that had fangs and long fangs and dangerous vines with spikes! Yikes! She had to be careful with this thing, but like all plants nice and easy always did the trick. All plants just needed some kindness and some loving, of course they were dangerous but often misunderstood. Like people were at times, plants were different and had feelings too.
Looking over hers obsetving it as the vines started coming towards her she jumped back. " Hey that's not very nice to be grabbing things." she told the plant observing that the vines needes alittle cutting not too much or it'll hurt it. "Diffindo! she said looking at the vines before nodding at her work. Reaching into the bucket she threw a couple of dead Chizpurfles at it before poking her hand in the soil feeling around it. "Poor thing you need some water and some soil." she said. Sprinkling some fertilizer she nodded before getting out her wand. "Aguamenti!" she said giving it enough water.
"There!" she said nodding her head in approval feeding it a few more Chizpurfles as she started taking notes.

Name: Stella Starson House: Gryffindor Year: First Plant Observation: Grabby little thing at first, only because it was hungry though, vines were a bit long and needed trimming. Gave it a couple of Chizpurfles before giving it some fertilizer and water, poor little fella was dry and thristing for water. Not a bad plant just misunderstood and needs some loving.

Zackary seemed in his own little zone as he didn’t provide an answer to the asked question. He was though as it seemed very observant of his plant and that Professor Wishart saw as a good thing. Hopefully he’d engage more in the lesson later on.
Rylee didn’t offer up an answer either even though Professor Wishart from previoius lessons had detected a knack and love for the subject of Herbology from the lioness. Note taking was though very acceptable, it meant she paid attention.
Skylar like her housemate Zackary seemed to not be keeping up with what was asked. Prof Wishart hoped for Skylar’s sake though that she paid closer attention as the lesson went on. It was after all the only way to learn new knowledge.
Dorian’s eyes and attention was so focused on his venomous plant it appeared that he either forgot to raise his hand to offer up an answer or chose not to. Either way Professor Wishart hoped he’d provide an answer to the next question or the mini activity at the least.
Weren’t head girl’s supposed to act with good example? Then why wasn’t Jessa actively participating by offering an answer? She just laid her head down on her desk. Not very wise Prof. Wishart observed. Her plant’s vines could attack. He’d keep an eye on her for now.
Lex of the badger seemed to bee showing keen interest and listening to all the other student’s answers even if she didn’t provide one herself. Which was okay Prof.Wishart reasoned to himself since she was still a fairly knew student, just in her second year.
Ryder had at least put his gloves on and seemed to be observing his plant like with a hawks attention but it was a pity that he didn’t answer the question. Oh well Professor Wishart supposed he still had to get the boy’s liking for how he held his classes. Professor Myers ways probably were on many student’s minds still.
Professor Wishart looked over expectantly at Charlie since he didn’t know if the snort meant that he was going to provide an answer to the question or not. A minute or two passed without an answer so he hoped Charlie would say something next time.
Professor Wishart looked over at Patrick since he was one of the ones that still hadn’t offered up an answer. However it seemed that he was going to sit this out. He was though dilligently taking down notes as everyone else talked. Stasya had remained standing at first, but as the lesson started she had taken a seat at the table. When those around her offered up suggestions she had remained silent, her full attention on the mobile vines of her plant. Prof Wishart understood why but hoped that she would answer the next question.
Lucas was the first to answer and Professor Wishart shot him an encouraging smile as he braved to do that. Not many first years would. But the boy was a Gryffindor. "You are correct Lucas! The tentaculas vines are very dangerous. They use use thier vines to strangle their prey whether its a creature or a human." Tentaculas weren’t picky but they were a bit dumb since humans usually fought back more than creatures.
Turning his gaze to Kimi Professor Wishart nodded "Yes, that’s correct Kimi. The venomous tentacula seeds are valuable to herbologists but also to potioneers."
It seemed that the youngest students weren’t too scared to answer. He admired that. Flashing a smile over at Lex he responded. "Right you are Lex! An adult tentaculas bite can indeed prove fatal. However these are very young plants so if you get bitten it won’t kill you and you won’t need to stay very long in the hospital wing. Their teeth can hurt you yes but it will probably just lead to small scratches or wounds. Their teeth haven’t sharpened or grown to their max height yet."
Hearing Daehyun’s voice it took a moment before Professor Wishart found the lion sitting next to Stella. Nodding he said "Correct Daehyun, the tentcula’s juice if drunken can turn the skin of your whole body very purple." He had seen a few pictures of such cases.
Turning to Taddy he smiled as he answered "You are correct! The tentaculas be very scary. There is no x rating like for dangerous creatures but if there was one then the tentaculas would probably fall under the xxx or xxxx rating.”
Tessa provided another describable trait for the plant as Professor Wishart turned to look over at the lioness with a smile. "Yes the tentcaulas have spikes that can be seen as dangeorus but it’s good to remember that the spikes aren’t poisonous." You had to remember that not all of the plant was poisonous or deadly.
Looking over at Septimus he nodded almost excitedly now. "That’s correct Spetimus. The tentaculas eat chizpurles. But you know what the gross thing is? They spit the chizpurfles carapces out when they’ve finished eating." It had made him sick once in his life but now Professor Wishart mused to himself.
Flashing a smile over Hanna he answered. "Yes right you are Hanna! Tentaculas have been as history show and are used even nowadays as defenders of wizards as well as plant gardens. If you get attacked and don’t have your wand nearby then you could definitely throw a venomous tentacula at your opponent because the poison from thier shoots are fatal in high concentration and their vines can strangle." A good plant to have in fight definitley!
Turning to Mark he responded. "Yes that’s true Mark! The biggest adult tentaculas can have multiple heads on their arm like appendage vines that all have sharp teech and can shoot spore balls at an unsuspecting victim." Professor Wishart knew that that bit of information would probably make some of the students recoil backwards from their work stations.
Zoryn definitley knew how to try to joke if that was how Prof.Wishart was supposed to take her answer? Anyways flashing a glance to the lioness he said with a nod "Yes you are sort of correct Zoryn since getting on a tentaculas bad side is never good since they are dangerous and poisonous."
Eyes turned to Jackson as offered up a trait. Furrowing his brow's at the eagle prefect Professor Wishart asked "Jackson you mean that the vines sound like they rattle right when they actually aren't moving not the seeds? The seeds can't be seen." He was a little bewildered.
Turning to smile at Madison he nodded "All forms actually can shoot out spiky spore balls at their chosen target when angry or hungry." Prof Wishart hoped for everyone's sake that no tentacula would do that today.
"Correct Maxton! The tentaculas are characterized as carnivores since they eat whole creatures and can also feast on humans." Professor Wishart said with a smile over at the snake prefect.
"The comedian you are referring to Jozef is Derwent Shimpling that ate up a whole venomous tentacula and became permantly purple until he died a natural death." Poor man though. To be purple couldn't have been easy.
Professor Wishart smiled over at Stella as he responded back "That's correct Stella. The shape and size of a tentaculas mouth and how many leaves it has changes with each plant." Sort of like with people. No person was totally alike someone else.
Hearing Abraham’s voice Professor Wishart turned to face the lion prefect with a nod ”Good Abra, actually its not just the seeds that you can get in trouble with the ministry for trading or buying, but also the juice, leaves and spores..”
Turning his attention over to Anabeth he said to the Slytherin with a smile. ”I’m having a lovely morning so far Beth. I’ll try to remember that is what you want to be called.” But if Prof Wishart didn’t then he hoped she wouldn’t think less of him. Listening to her answer he responded. ”Very good explanations Beth. Venoms does need to be injected into a target to have effect while poisions need to be drunk or otherwise be absorbed by the body to take effect.”
It was nice to see that Natasha contributed with answer. Smiling over to the young ravenclaw Professor Wishart said ”Very good observation Natasha.. The vines of an adult tentacula can definitley strangle a victim to death just as easily as poision them.” But most of the time the tentaculas used the poison to make their victim less likely to fight back before they went in for the kill. He didn’t tell the girl that. He didn’t want to scare her.
Flashing his gaze over to Nettie he couldn’t help but grin back at her. ”I’m not sure if the hate the sunlight exactly but the tentcaulas do prefer to live in gloomy places over very sunny and hot spots.”
Flashing a glance over at Bettie Professor Wishart responded ”Tentaculas can’t use magic such as lumos duo. That is strictly for magical folk. If you want to draw chizpurfles to the tentaculas then they are drawn to the light of the lumous duo spell and an easy target for tentculas.”
”I think you are referring to the term carpaces Daisy. That is what the dead leftovers of chizpurfles are called when they’ve been spitten out by tentaculas after they’ve feasten on them. ” Professor Wishart responded with a look over at the badger prefect.
”Correct Bernie!” Professor Wishart said encouragingly ”Simple facts matter to and tentaculas are venomous.”
Plant zombies??? Alfdis totally stunned him silent for a moment before Professor Wishart found himself and responded with a shake of his head. ”No you’ve gotten it wrong Alfdis. The are no such thing as plant zombies in this greenhouse. Venomous Tentacula’s can’t burrow themselves into someones head or scoop out someones brain. The most they can do is kill a target with their venom, spores and vines. ”
SPOILER!!: Vines drama + others students that caused some fuss that needed point taking
Prof Wishart fixed his gaze on Archer and answered sternly. “Archer, you call Mr Scrimegour, Headmaster Scrimegour nothing else is that understood? I will dock 6 points from Hufflepuff for your disrespect.” because of the chuckling Talking with a softer tone and eyes showing some warmth he said “I understand that you are trying to look out for me with safety in mind but Headmaster Scrimegour has approved of this lesson topic. You need to learn how to care for and handle dangerous plants it’s part of your education and personal defence.”
Seriously? Another one shooting a stern glance over at young Spenly he said sternly, his mood dropping. ”10 points from Gryffindor for your nonchalance and disrespect towards our headmaster Chace. If I hear you refer to our headmaster as having likeness to a plant again you will be in detention again faster than you can say bouncing bulbs is that understood?”
Professor Wishart’s gaze immediatley went to the entrance of Callum looked like something the cat had dragged in with his robes in disorder. As if that weren’t enough he was LATE, didn’t have his gloves on and of course got himself attacked by one of the tentcula’s vines. Taking a breath he moved over to the boy as he pulled out an ice pack from one of his many robe pockets as he said sternly. ”That’s 10 points from Hufflepuff for your late arrival to class and your dishelved appearance and shouting Callum. What have you been doing all morning to attest for your lateness to class?” Hmm??
Pointing with a finger to the nearest plant he said as he held out the ice pack still a mellow tone. ”The plant is a venomous tentcula as you would have known if you had been to class on time Callum. Put this ice on your arm against the burn. Find a seat and pull on your dragon hide gloves quickly, is that understood Callum?” Before he turned to the other students he said in a much softer tone ”But you are correct Callum that tentculas can be used in potion brewing.”
In the corner of his eye when he had been reprimanding Callum he had seen that Derfael had been up to something at his work station. Professor Wishart turned just in time to hear him shout DUCK at the top of his voice. Wipping out his wand he quickly cast immobulus on the plant as he shouted over at Derf ”That’s enough Derfael! Stop right this minute with casting immobulus at your plants vines! Push your chair back several steps and take a needed breath. Your plant will not attack you! The vines might be a little playful but you should just knock them away lightly. Right now you are stressing the plant and that is not wise. So take it easy please. You can sit up at my desk until we start the activity all right?”
Spotting Mark’s ducking figure Professor Wishart called over worriedly. "Are you all right Mark? You can sit up now. It’s safe. Nobody is going to be shooting anymore spells your way.” Could the drama end now so that he could move on?
"Very interesting, many of you have suggested way’s to extract juice that I hadn’t even considered like boiling the leaves or crushing them to name two. However Abra and Bettie has offered up the way that is what we will be trying our hands at a little later on in the lesson. We are going to squeeze the tentacula tight enough over a container so that it spits out it’s juice." Yes, they were, whether they liked it or not going to get very close to their tentaculas. "But that will come after they’ve been fed of course."
As the words appeard on the blackboard Joshua spoke to the students "What you all need to keep in mind when dealing with this very poisonous plant is to wear your protective dragonhide gloves during and handling/care of posonous plant and to always wear work robes. When you arr done you should always clean you hands very throughly and change into new robes in case they’ve been splashed with venom. Do not eat or drink any of the seeds, leaves, juice or spores or berries for that matter that you’ll encounter in the greenhouses or outside Hogwars unless you really know that it’s safe to do that.. If you get bitten by your tentacula today it’s not deadly since these plants are still very young and have been devenomed."
With the use of his wand prof wishart accioed forth a large lidded barrel from the storage rom that he sat down next to his desk. Raising his head to smile broadly and excitedly at the students he said "Now it’s time to get practical! I bet you all are just waiting to get closer and more personal with the tentaculas on your work stations isn’t that so?" Here he paused shortly. "Every good plant carer needs to be able to ssess the needs of its like if it needs a good trim, is short on water or needs some fertilizer etc and that is part of what you are going to do now. The other part is that I highly suggest you do first is to feed your tentaculas with with chizpurfles since on a ful stomach they become drowsy and less willing to move their vines. The dead chizpurfles can be found in the barrel so get to work everyone you have an hour to finish your activity and to write down your plants assessing observations on parchments!"
OOC: Mini activity is up! In one or more posts your students needs to feed their tentaculas with dead chizpurfles and also assess if their tentaculas lack water, needs a trim, some fretilizer to promote growth and also write down their observations on parchment listing what they see.
You have 4 days until Monday night @ roughly 7pm GMT+2 to finish the activity. Be creative and most of all have fun! Any questions don't hesitate to vm/pm or label the title of your post with professor and i'll answer as soon as i can.
Individ replies for Question 2 will come during the weekend.
He had a good and valid excuse as to his tardiness, but he wondered if this professor would also have a problem with the word crap... He decided he'd have to find out as he had asked him directly. " I was late to class , Sir, because I need to go to the lavatory.. It seems that breakfast has run right through me.. ", Cal answered.. The last part being added for dramatic effect of course. Surely, he wouldn't be punished and still have those ten points taken from his house..
Seriously, Cal was starting to rack up a fair amount of negative points and he wasn't even trying yet.. This was a new record.. It had to be. He'd have to remember to look up in the library if stats like that were kept at the school.. And if they were, he'd make sure to top them all.. He always did know he was meant for reknown..
He took the ice pack from the teacher and set it on the burn on his forearm and went to take his seat and don his gloves as he'd been told and listened to the rest of the goings on and took notes in his book.

Wait, what? This guy's asking them how to juice those things? Merlin, if they were in their right minds, why would they even be near these things?! Charlie's brows went way above his forehead and shook his head. Herbologists and their crazy undertakings. He'd never understand them, but that earned them a renewed respect from this kid. They'd die for plant species. Merlin. Charlie wanted to offer an answer, but thought that his guess was a bit brutal, but to his surprise, it was exactly what was needed for them to accomplish the task.
Okay, gross.
A few short notes were written on his parchment, totally ignoring what just happened across the classroom. Charlie sort of expected that something was bound to happen anyway. While the barrel of dead chizpurfles soared across the greenhouse, and heard the professor's words about getting close and personal with the plant, Charlie couldn't help himself but put his hands up in a surrender position mid-note-taking. "Not me," he said in a quick, but hushed tone towards the student closest to him, "But I'll do it for the points. And the grade." Because grades were important too.
Done with his notes, his writing implements were haphazardly tossed inside his bag and bounded towards the barrel that had chizpurfles in it. Charlie got himself a good amount because he thought that overfeeding the venomous thing was the way to go...much like giving them turkey coma during Thanksgiving, yeah? With that picture in mind, Charlie got down to work and fed the plant like there was no tomorrow. "Eat, little beast. Eat like it's the end of the world..." he said in a calm, soothing voice. As soon as the plant started to slow down...and looked like Charlie during a food coma, the Hufflepuff quickly checked his plant and fished out a fresh, but crumpled parchment out of his bag and started to write down his findings. Once that was done, he went on to trim, fertilize, and water his plants.

Observations:
1. My plant is a bit overgrown, like, with the leaves and all that. It shouldn't look like it because it's supposed to be young. Gave it a haircut, well more like a trim so it's cute as a button now. And I think he likes it. Can I call him Bob? Yeah, Bob likes his new look.
2. Soil is a bit dry...and it doesn't smell anything. I know it's supposed to smell like Earth but it doesn't? So...I gave it some fertilizer dung to make it smell extra...dung-y. Like how it's supposed to. Totally winning this, I can tell.
3. Aaand just like any living creature, I think it needed a bit of water. I mean...after all that carapace in its...belly(?) it needs something to counter all that nutritious goodness for it to spread out towards its vines. Give it more strength and muscles so it'll grow more.

Some of the vines seemed happy with the amount they had eaten, and straightened back up. Others, however, didn't. One extended itself even longer, right near Hanna, and snapped at her. "NO!" She squealed, reaching for her wand with her own ninja!quick reflexes. "DIFFINDO!" The offending vine snapped clean off the branch and fell into her lap. Hanna flicked it off with haste, she didn't want to risk it coming back to life or something. "Stupid weed," she muttered to the plant. As some of the vines were still moving, though less than before, she decided to feed them more. Another small handful of chizpurfles went to them, but Hanna emptied her loot onto the table, allowing the vines to eat from there. After a while she noted they had become drowsier, and some of them were almost motionless. Good.
Next thing Hanna wanted to do was assess its need for water. She quickly pressed her fingers into the soil to see how it felt. "Pretty dry," she observed. The top layer was dry, and it wasn't for at least half an inch that there was some amount of moisture.
Figuring the plant needed watering, Hanna would fertilise it too. Up to the front to get a small amount of fertiliser, which she was going to replace with some of the top soil. She scooped the dry soil off the top, sprinkled some of the fertiliser in there. Pulling her wand out again, she aimed at the spot she wanted to water and said "Aguamenti," letting the drizzle shower the plant enough to give it dampness, but not a bath.

Once severed, vines stop moving. Probably can't use to grow another plant.
Slightly dry soil, needing some watering and fertilising.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Jessa watched the students around her get to work, feeling not in the least bit inclined to do the same, but she would have to if she wanted to secure a chizpurfle. The Ravenclaw looked back to the plant, now finally swatting lightly at the vines to get them out of her hair—literally. Not a threat at all. It was then that she came across her third, il advised question. This time she eased off the table, pausing a moment while her head spun from the hunger.
Next period was mercifully a free one. She would run down to the kitchen and secure herself a proper meal and think up ways to get herself breakfast. A whole year of sitting through morning classes like this was going to have to be a no.
For now, she turned her attention once more on the Professor. “If the plants are weak enough that we can just lightly knock them out of the way, why are we placating them with chizpurfles? Seems to me if you’ve gone and removed everything that’s made them dangerous then we could just grab at the parts we need and squeeze without much opposition.” But this time, she did get up and moved over to the barrel. The Head Girl peered inside, reaching for three of the dead things before returning to her seat.
She pocketed all three so the plant wouldn’t get any ideas before flopping back into her seat. It’d take more out of her than she thought it would.
It left her in no mood to give any real thought to this assessment so she simply scribbled whatever came to mind. It was hard to think straight on an empty stomach and she wouldn’t be trying too hard under those circumstances.

This sounded incredibly dangerous and incredibly gross.
Therefore it was only natural that Joey found it incredibly cool. It would, of course, have been cooler if they were still venomous. Although, the fact that they had been devenomed and therefore couldn't kill him did give him an idea. He could be just like Shimpling and be PURPLE for his whole life. Maybe it wouldn't even be his whole life - that had happened YEARS ago, so surely there would be a cure for the purpleness by now...
Did Józef want to eat the whole plant in front of him?
He was tempted, of course.
Maybe at the end of the lesson, if he could find a way to sneak the plant out of the Greenhouse. Whatever the Professor said about not eating any part of it.
But for NOW, at least, he was to... Uh, feed it? And to feed it and trim it and water it and whaaaaaaaaat. How was he supposed to know if all that stuff needed doing? Did they have an example perfect plant to compare it to?
Jó was already wearing his gloves, of course, but he pulled them at the wrists as if to make sure they weren't going to fall off before making his way to the barrel and grabbing two dead chizpurfles. One for feeding right NOW (which is what he was doing) and one for just in case it got angsty later. This young Gryffindor was PREPARED.
And so he went about deciding if feeding and tending to the plant was needed, before jotting down his notes.

Now that was done, he could start to think about how to sneak the plant out of here.

Now for the part she was... sort of looking forward to. Severing all its vines. Wait, no... trimming its vines. Some of them looked nice and coiled, close to its trunk. Hanna was sure those were the ones that could reach the longest. But they were also in a position that made it difficult for her to know whether she would cut something she shouldn't. So she went with the vines that made the plant look untidy. Some of the longer ones got the snip. "Diffindo," she said, a lot calmer than she had before. "Diffindo... Diffindo... Diffindo..." on and on, until she had a small pile of aboutc fifteen vinew of varying lengths.

Hungry little buggers. Very quick reflexes to Chizpurfles. Can extend their vines a long distance.
Once severed, vines stop moving. Probably can't use to grow another plant.
Slightly dry soil, needing some watering and fertilising.
When does it spit out the carapace?
Some of the vines appeared too close to cut without damaging the trunk - what would happen if the trunk was cut? Would it heal itself or grow back?
Vines easily sever from the plant, and it didn't even retaliate when it commenced.

So... were they actually supposed to DO things to address what they had observed in the plants? Wishart hadn't said. Abra's Tentacula definitely needed some water and probably could do with a little fertiliser too, and he'd put that in his notes, just as they had been told to do. He was, however, a little lost on whether the professor actually wanted them to do those things, or if they were supposed to wait until later, when the plants had been placated with food or something. A quick, furtive glance at those around them told Abra that some people were going ahead and catering to their plant's needs, which did make the most sense, but he wasn't so sure how to proceed himself.
There was only one thing for it. He was going to have to ask for clarification. Not such a crazy thing to do generally, sure, but already he had started imagining all sorts, like that he would be accused of not listening to instructions or something equally as dreadful. So, he had to steel himself a bit before raising a gloved hand. "Professor? Did you want us to do the trimming or watering or fertilising if our plant needs it? Or do we just write it down for now?"
In the meantime, Abra still needed to feed his Venomous Tentacula, so he headed up to the barrel of dead chizpurfles and grabbed a small handful, just to be sure he had enough. If he was supposed to be caring for the Tentacula by giving it water and fertiliser, he wanted to make sure it was as full and 'drowsy' (could plants really get drowsy?) as it could get, and that meant feeding it up.
"Here you go," Abra said, offering his plant the dead chizpurfles. He was aware that it couldn't hear him, but it acted so much like an actual creature that he couldn't help but talk to it. Wasn't that supposed to be good for plants anyway?

Professor Wishart’s words made her smile, oh the pride we feel. [b]”thank you Professor,”[/b Beth grinned as he mentioned that her commentary on venoms and poisons was accurate. Yes, this girl was very pleased with herself. She wasn’t pleased though, that her friend was getting points taken away for something she felt was an astute observation.
Squeezing the tentacles? That was what they had to do? Hmmm, Beth just looked up at Professor Wishart for a moment as her eyes kept flicking over to the tentacle that was eyeing Dusty. ”stay away from my friend tentacly” she hissed at it and eyed Professor Wishart at the comments about being wary of what they ate…that made freaking sense right? So much sense.
Taking her piece of paper she began marking down her notes as neatly as she could.

Bettie pulled her long curly hair back into a pony tail so the Tentacula's vines would not get tangled in it. then went to the barrel a took a small scoop of chiapurfles. Once the Tentacula was fed Bettie watched it become drowsy. When the plant was drowsy enough that it's vine would not be too much a problem Bettie assessed the plant.
"Hmm, It looks like you need a little water and fertilizer, there is a few dead leaves and looks like a few of the vines need trimmed", Bettie said to the plant and more to herself.
After Bettie did her assessment she went and got some fertilizer and the pull out her wand and she did a smooth wave movement from right to left and said "Aguamenti," and watered the plant and fertilized it. Then she pinched off the dead leaves and holding the vines she needed to trim she said"diffindo" and cut them off.
After Bettie was done taking care of the plant she cleaned thing up and took out her parchment paper, quill, ink and started writing her observation notes.

Ducking under the vine that then made a grab for his hair, Derf readied his wand again to finish the job when he saw the result of his rogue spell.
GAH!
HELPLESS FIRST YEAR AT....er....SOMETHING O'CLOCK!
Leaping up from his seat - because Merlin help him if he Finite'd the vines he had been working on freezing in his haste - the sixth year scrambled over to the Ravenclaw and pointed his wand at the top of his head. "Finite!" Breathe, Derfael. "I'm sorry about that," he apologized with a firm ruffle of his hair. "I was aiming for the vine."
And....er...he slowly turned his head and glanced at the professor now that that dust had somewhat settled.
And in all the commotion and his own self induced chaos...Derf had entirely missed Callum arriving late.

He kept quiet until Derf had apologized to Mark and ruffled his hair before he spoke first looking to the first year ravenclaw with some worry in his eyes. "Are you all right Mark? You can sit up now, its okay again."
Turning his eyes to Derf now he said with a nod of his head. "I accept your apology Derfael. I suggest you keep a good distance from your plant until you’ve gotten started on the activity and also to not shoot spells at it unless it’s really nessecarry. A stressed and irritated plant is more likely to strike than a balanced and calm plant."

The Head Girl peered inside, reaching for three of the dead things before returning to her seat.
As the activity got started it seemed that the head girl wanted to get more involved and show more attentiveness. Turning his eyes to the ravenclaw Professor Wishart responded, his hands folded at his chest. "You bring up a valid question Jessa. We are placating our tentculas by feeding them chizpurfles because they are going through the very prickly end state of teething since they are still young plants maturing to adults and they are lot more grouchy and unpredictable when they get their last teeth and I don’t want anyone here to get bitten."
"I’ve devenomed them because if you were to get bitten you won’t get badly hurt but just because they’ve been devonomed doesn’t make them not dangerous. They still have sharp teeth, vines that can strangle you and spike spore balls that can hurt your skin. So I advice you to be very careful to not underestimate a plant just because it appears to not be dangerous anymore." Joshua finished before turning his attention to other students.

It prompted—against her better judgement—another question. “Why have the plants had their venom removed, Professor? Seems shoddy to change their very nature, their defence mechanism and their means of feeding just so we don’t die.” It was different if the plant had been specifically bred without venom in the first place, but these had it and it was removed. “It’s like removing the fire, fangs and ferocity from a dragon so we can pet it at the zoo.”
Jessa spoke up again and this time Professor Wishart turned a sterner look at her then before. "Don't test my patience or professional judgement Jessa or you will lose house points! I have devenomed these plants for your students safety. The venom these plant’s had in them was very potent and strong and getting bitten by a plant with that in them would have knocked you unconcious within seconds and you’d have needed urgent healer attention. Beth Greyvson was busy paying attention to the vine that she had now dubbed Tentacly for its tentaculy nature…yknow, it worked as a name for the little venomous plant – better than calling it Angel or peaches or some mundane thing like that. Getting up Beth moved over to the barrel in a somewhat lethargic maner, but really…she, like Chase was so utterly sore.
Looking at Spenley she just sighed ”I’m sore Chase…” she frowned at him as she dramtically bent over acting as if her back or even her hip was out of place as she scooped a LARGE allotment of Chizpurfles carcasses…because that was what they were. ”I think that’s enough carcasses” she muttered as she stood up and stretched out slightly before making her way to her table.
”Dutsy, my dear dear friend – if we weren’t in class right now I’d probably ask you if I could use you as a pillow…” she admitted with a smile as she carefully moved closer to Tentacly and tossed the Chizpurfles to the plant watching as it started slowly eating them…oh, it was hungry.
Raising her hand, ”Professor? Does being de-venomed make the plants more hungry?” she asked with an intrigued and concerned look playing on her face. It was really interesting to her, everything about the plant was really knew. With Tentacly distracted by eating Beth stuck her gloved hand into the soil and felt how it needed more water. ”aguamenti” she cast letting the water soak into the soil until she turned the spell off with a finite and quickly gave it more fertilizer…there, it was going to be appeased and happy and let her milk it as LONG as she needed to…right? No biting me Tentacly?
When Professor Wishart spoke up against Headgirl Cambridge all Beth could do was watch in awe. Man, that took…well something? Bravery – and guts and everything. Her grey eyes followed him for a moment as he spoke to the older girl…oh, wow.
Wow. Must keep him away from Granny Frejya was her immediate thought too. Taking a piece of parchment she wrote that thought down to Dizzy Keep away from Freyja? – because clearly that was important.
Taking her wand in hand she gave Tentacly a look ”sorry plant friend,” she sighed at it before casting a ”diffindo” at the plant one swipe, two, three aaaaahf there she had sliced it away.

OH… YES. The viiiines not the seeds. Hahaha……. Yea that made a little more sense? “I meant the vines...” Jackson replied, wondering how bad he was at lying. Yes, this was the part where he had to pull out his notes and quill. He observed the plants as they… uhm… interacted with his fellow classmates. He looked up from his scribbled notes in time to see Professor Wishart start getting entangled with a vine. As soon as it had started though, the professor had whacked the sneaky vine away. Man, Jackson wished he had those kind of instincts but usually not so much. He looked at his hands, appreciating his gloves so much. Hmmm how were they going to extract the juice? Jackson would first have assumed by squeezing the vines but that would have been more likely on a… not as alive… plant? Jackson was scribbling again, trying to catch the details. He smiled appreciatively at Hanna for her answers, wishing he could give her House points.
Raising his hand, Jackson responded. “To… juice… it,” he started a bit clumsily, “I would assume it’s a good idea to immobilize the plant to reduce the chance of hurting yourself. And, well I would assume we should always treat a plant as though it hasn’t been devenomized, you know just in case, but I would think you should be looking to protect yourself as best you can.” He listened as others mentioned milking snakes, and Jackson had to admit that he had never thought of milking a snake before. Nor did he have plans of thinking of that ever again, thanks. As more people answered, Jackson felt himself now waiting for more Ravenclaws to answer… buuut Jessa’s replies were not quite what he was hoping for. Expected? Yes. Helpful? Not particularly.
Oh good, it was time to work with the plants. As Jack looked at his assigned plant, he considered it. How weird to think of it as a young plant… As though it were a baby animal that had been declawed. Like, seriously that’s what this all sounded like to him. Were they going to take them home and care for them?? Okay, that was a little excessive maybe, but seeing as they had been devenomized, Jackson was kind of up for it. Energy having increased a bit, now that some of his breakfast had digested, Jackson fixed up his parchment and went to grab some of the dead chizpurfles. How many would he need though?? He took what he could carry back to his station and began getting the plant’s attention. Not that he needed help, what with his approaching with food and all. “Hey! Hey! Hungry, bud? Huh?” Once the plant had found the food, Jackson tossed it toward the plant. Ooh it was quick!
“WHOA. Control yourself, okay?” Jackson found himself saying to his plant. He would have to name it Audrey II if it kept trying to devour things like that. He tried tossing a few more until the plant calmed down. Well, maybe not so much calm down but it looked like it! Once the plant was at a steady and slow speed, Jackson got much closer to it. He stayed wary, but the plant didn’t seem to be trying to attack him yet. He was able to get a much better look at each part of the plant. Hooo man… One look at this distance and Jackson could tell that it had been summer merely days ago. His poor new friend seemed ready to shatter any second! Unless that’s how they always looked? Doubtful. He had almost started throwing water on the plant, but he remembered that he would probably want fertilizer. He saw absolutely no sense in making himself dig out the mud, so he replaced the dirt first. After a bit of Jackson decided to practice his nonverbal magic.
Aguamenti! Aaand… nothing. Hm. He tried it again. Aguamenti!
COOL. A dribble of water fell out of the end of his wand, as if to TEASE Audrey with hydration. ”Sorry… That was rude,” he said to it, trying to keep a straight face as he joked. These were the kind of jokes his mom would have rolled her eyes at. He closed his eyes and took a ‘focusing’ breath.
Aguamenti!
WHOOSH! There it was! Thumb covering part of the stream, Jackson created a shower for Audrey. It was kind of cool to watch to be honest.

My plant seemed to be pretty active upon first observation, so I started by feeding it seven chizpurfles. My plant (I’ll call her Audrey) looked to be a bit dry and dehydrated so I gave her a nice bath. I can’t tell if she needs her hair leaves and stuff trimmed, but it looks pretty even. I DO think she would benefit from some more fertilizer than she’s probably been getting. I took out a couple scoops of the old fertilizer and refilled with new fertilizer, trying to mix it together. She seems to be better off now in my opinion.

Yeah...his mum had a few of these plants too and purely for the novelty of them and mum finding them adorable. Or something equally as horrifying. So Derf really was not sure what to feel about squeezing the vines until the juices came out...or maybe if he thought about it as more like milking a cow than squeezing a leech until it burst...then he could feel less nauseous about this whole activity.
And he already was feeling more than a bit queasy thanks to the whole Immobulus incident, though at least he had been forgiven and the Ravenclaw boy back in his standard state. He mostly just, you know, wanted to move past that whole ordeal and just SURVIVE this lesson please and thank you. He also needed to remind himself that this professor...did not know his history with Herbology - he reckoned Professor Myers hadn't informed the man and no one else on staff REALLY knew about those details...save for the assumption that he was a bit dramatic. Which, well, seemed Professor Wishart was of that same mindset. Really, the bloke was lucky Derf wasn't being dramatic and was, comparatively, calm.
"......but it's stressing me out," he retorted under his breath, putting up his own personal blinders mostly to everything else being said and done around the greenhouse all for the sake of his own focusing. He wished Picketta was in his pocket right now, she always helped make him feel at ease. Though seeing as they were going to be feeding these things dead chizpurfles...it was probably best his bowtruckle was not with him. Assuming she checked her finicky eating at the greenhouse door, which was unlikely.
Distracted thinking about Picketta, Derf nearly missed was in which the one lone mobile vine on his not-venomous tentacula was withering its way towards his face. "Oi," he spat, leaning back and away on his stool from the plant. "No."
EYEING it, Derf retrieved a fresh piece of parchment from his bag and his quill...so he could try to observe whatever it was he was supposed to observe right now.
also seems starving since all it wants to do is tear the flesh right off my face and limbs and stuff
Initial observations done, he tucked the parchment between his teeth, scampered over for a handful of dead chizpurfles, and then returned to his spot. "Er...here..." he offered, holding up the handful of dead chizpurfles that really just looked like a mound of brownish dust in his hand. "....dig in." It was almost like having a snake coil itself around your arm - almost and the eagerness of his particular not-venomous tentacula was...unsettling. Soon his handful of dead parasites were gone and he simply sat and....waited for it to get that drowsy look about it. Which it did not. "....more?" And as if the plant were an actual sentient being who could understand human speech - mum would argue with him on that - the singular vine began reaching towards his face again. "Woah woah woah hold on...be right back."
And another dash to the chizpurfles was made, this time he came back with a small mountain of them in his cupped hands...and stood in front of the plant as it hungrily reached out and devoured those up.
also seems starving since all it wants to do is tear the flesh right off my face and limbs and stuff
Yup, definitely starving. Has devoured approximately 4 hand fulls of chizpurfles.
I guess the soil it's planted in looks kind dry
some of its leaves aren't exactly luscious looking - kinda wilted and brittle - so...trimming those off is probably a good idea. Once it stops trying to kill me.

Ah, relief. Relieeeeeef that his question was not met with annoyance about listening to instructions. Relief that he had thought to ask and not just gone ahead and done the thing.
"Got it, Professor," Abra replied, with a grateful smile. "Thank you."
With that sorted, Abra got back to feeding his Venomous Tentacula. Hopefully just the one handful of chizpurfles was enough food to be getting on with, mostly because Abra didn't feel like getting back up again to collect more. He'd done enough physical activity today, thank you, S.O.R.E.
Abra wasn't too fearful of the plant, given the fact that it apparently wasn't that harmful to him after being devenomed and also that he was wearing his gloves, but he still moved slightly tentatively when he deposited the chizpurfles in front of it and sat back, letting it eat as much as it wanted or needed. Meanwhile, he looked over his notes. They were a little sparse, but he wasn't really sure what else he could write down. Maybe he could bulk out what he had already written, somehow?
... Nah.

Okaaaaaay. Professor Wisehart had a bit of a short temper today, didn't he? Natalie had actually thought that Jessa brought up a good point and a question that she would have liked to learn from. Why DID he remove the poison from them? What use did they have now? She didn't think that Jessa's question was worth losing points over, but apparently it was.
Anyway... it was time to get to work.
After all that, Natalie thought it was kinda lame that they just had to squeeze the thing hard enough to get the juice out. Just like an orange. She thought it'd be more exciting or rewarding.
Also, was the plant poisonous or not? He told them he took the poison out but he was also telling them to be careful of this "very poisonous plant". WHICH ONE WAS IT.
Okay, for real, it was time to get to work. With her gloves on, Natalie went over to the stash of dead chizpurfles (which was totally gross, by the way) and grabbed two, holding them out far in front of her as she walked back to her plant. Then she just sorta tossed them at the plant and watched it devour them. Ew.
After that was done, Natalie peered around the plant carefully and saw that the soil was a bit dry, so she used her wand to cast a water charm and poured a little bit in. Her tentacula didn't seem as large as some of the other ones, so it didn't need a trim (and she REALLY didn't feel like trying to manage that). So she added a little bit of fertilizer to the soil instead.
Once that was done, she took a step away from the plants and jotted down her notes.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Jessa had only just gotten her gloves on, ready to begin at least some parts of the task when the Professor’s voice broke into her concentration. On a level she did understand his placating with food. It made things easier but....”You’ve told Derf these plants won’t attack us and that all it would take is swatting them away lightly if they do.” She said, speaking slowly as she tried to understand for herself. “So even if the vines did grab me....it sounds like an easy enough fix without having to feed them.” So that wasn’t really justification enough for her to hand over the dead chizpurfles she’d just secured. “All I’d have to do is steer clear of the teething mouth.” She wasn’t trying to underestimate the plant, the man had simply given the impression they were not currently a threat.
She blinked as his voice grew sterner, taken aback by his accusation and it momentarily showed in her expression. But.....but I wasn’t trying to do either of those things, sir.” The Ravenclaw countered, not forcefully but rather with a tone of confusion. Testing his patience and his professional judgement.....? When had she done that....?
Jessa, by nature, was morbidly curious. She liked learning the hows and whys and what’s. She liked taking things apart and putting them back together. She liked knowing the reason behind things. She just liked knowing. Occasionally, she asked more questions than was appreciated and she supposed this was one of those times or perhaps this man simply had a short fuse.
If that was the case, she’d keep all questions to herself and read up to find her answers. She wouldn’t depend on this man to provide her with information if he was going to get so impatient at her thirst for understanding. Thankfully, the girl had learned a long time ago to satiate herself where knowledge was concerned so rather than explain herself, she simply apologized then turned to her plant. She would figure things out for herself if he had such a problem with it.
Not bothering to offer up a snack, Jessa tugged at one of the tentacles and began to squeeze, having done none of the previous care it required. He’d never answered her first question on if the juices were still useful without the venom, she would do her own experiments. She would also see if the juices differed in potency pre and post care. Yes, a rather eventful lesson she was about to have. For its part, the plant reached its other vines to wrap around her but as the professor had insisted they wouldn’t die and she was sure they wouldn’t penetrate her gloves, she just kept squeezing.

'I bet you all are just waiting to get closer and more personal with the tentaculas on your work stations '
....... Uh. No. Not really.
Lucas was hesitant. Especially because the Professor had just given a lot of warning instructions which only made him feel worse instead of better. Picking up his quill - and leaning waaaaaay back from the vines - he started jotting down everything that had been said. Or nearly everything. Basic notes that might not make sense later but it was okay. This was about survival!
The first part wasn't too bad, really. Just notes on the plant in front of him and trying not to get hit by the vines while he was at it. Which was easier said than done when a vine swoooooooped out, causing the first year to yelp and duck under his workstation again. Yeah...... that was going down first. Vines.
Next, when he peeked up again, he started making more observations about things other than the vines themselves. Like aren't those leaves meant to be green? And that soil looked as cracked as very dry lips do. And what else what else.....
...... fertiliser? Lucas frowned slightly as he peered at the plant as close as he could go. He wasn't sure but the plant LOOKED small which.... was enough of a sign, right? And he was sure that there was nothing wrong with OVERfeeding. Underfeeding, maybe, but overfeeding was okay.... right?
Yeah, fertiliser was going down.

Plant observation notes:
- The vines have a lot of energy. They like to swing around a lot and I think it's because they're hungry and are trying to snatch food. I doubt it's because they're looking for cuddles.
- Well, I don't know what to tell you but it's not very green. That's probably not right.
- The soil is cracking like very dry lips. That's not right either.
- Do you think the plant needs fertiliser? I mean, plants can be short but there's something wrong with everything else so I'm guessing that there's something wrong with this too

Yesss, they were moving on to the practical part of the lesson.
Madison quickly finished working on her notes as she listened to the professor explain what they were supposed to do. It seemed simple enough to her, and there probably wasn't going to be any problems with her plant; well, it at least looked like it wasn't in bad shape to her. And even though she wasn't a bit fan of touching dead animals, at least the chizpurfles were small and she had gloves on.
Right.
She made her way over to the barrel and made sure to collect quite a few of them so that her plant would be nice and full. And then drowsy. Madison smiled, figuring that she had plenty.
"Here you go, little fellow. Eat like there is no tomorrow." Clearly the plant was listening to her, because it seemed like all the chizpurfles were gone in a few seconds. Madison blinked. "Well, okay then."Now get sleepy so that you can be watered and looked after, she thought to herself as she began working on her notes. It probably wouldn't take her too long to get this done, because the venomous tentacula already seemed to be feeling the effects of having so much food. "Excellent." Now she could work on giving it some water as well as a bit of a trimming.
Looking at it closely, Madison saw that it seemed to be in need of quite a bit of water; the soil was dry, and the leaves were looking a little worse for wear because of it. The plant was also slightly on the small side. Using her wand, she fed it with aguamenti, making sure not to give TOO much. Over watering was a thing, and she didn't want to drown it. After that, some fertilizer was added because there was nothing wrong with promoting further growth. She wanted her venomous tentacula to do REALLY well.
That would do the trick, and now she could move on to the next bit of care: removing the dead leaves.
While the vines seemed to be pretty healthy on the most part, there were quite a few dead leaves on the plant. Madison started cutting away at them using diffindo, making sure that she got each and every one of them. Once that was out of the way, she was feeling quite satisfied with the state of her plant, so she finished working on the observations.
What now?

- VERY hungry with fast reflexes (made short work of the chizpurfles)

- leaves in pretty good condition, though some needed to be trimmed
Beth's hiss right next to him had caught him off guard, but he soon broke into a grin. "Are you jealous this little guy will become my best friend?" He appreciated the thought, though. But now, sated, the tentacula seemed a lot more relaxed, and barely moved. Perfect timing for a trim!
Daehyun was about to point his wand at his new friend, when he'd heard Beth again. Use him as a pillow? "You tired?" he asked in a lowered voice. He probably wasn't all that comfortable to sleep on either, but he hoped the Slytherin wouldn't fall asleep in class. He'd have to make up a lie and cover for her, or whatever it was that friends did.
... or he could just poke her sides and see how ticklish she is. That ought to keep her awake.
Now, back to the tentacula. Maybe he should name his, like Beth did. But while he came up with a name, he was going to give his venomous friend a trim. "Diffindo," he said, his wand pointed at the tip of a vine that he cut off. Next, he continued by trimming all the dead ends he could spot until he was satisfied with his work.
He wondered if he could visit and keep taking care of this one after class.

Plant observation notes: the soil was dry; added a little bit of fertilizer, too.
The vines look like they could use a trim.
The venomous tentacula really does enjoy chizpurfles; is very mellow on a full stomach.

Natasha looked at her plant again when the assignment was given. While she was enjoying the lesson in general, she did seem to have a rather feisty plant to work with. She gave the vine that was once again creeping towards her a whack with her wand.
“I don't like you, and you don't like me. But I want to pass this class, and I'm pretty sure you want to eat, so let's just make the best of this.” She told the plant, but it seemed to have no effect. She could tell right away it needed water, but decided to offer it food first, in hopes of calming it, or at least distracting it. It worked in part, the plant readily accepted a dead chizpurfle.
Natasha used that opportunity to check the soil and found it looked to be in a fairly poor state. She added a small amount of fertiliser, then watered it. Noticing the plant was getting aggressive again, she gave it another dead chizpurfle, and used that time to trim back some dried up vines and leaves. Once she was done, she offered it one last dead chizpurfle, and noticed that the plant did calm down considerably once it was full.
As she wrote out her notes, a vine made its way, unnoticed and bit her glove, forcing her to wrestle with the vine to finally get it back.

This plant was very underfed. It enthusiastically ate three dead chizpurfles. I added a small amount of fertiliser and watered the plant as well as gave it a small trim. The vines can be patient and sneaky, or lighting fast, depending on the situation.
