Herbology Lesson One: Watch out for the vines they like flesh!
IC DATE, Time, Location: Monday morning September 10th, 2096. Greenhouse Three @ 08.30 AM.
It was such a nice early fall morning outside, the weather was mild on what was promising to be a nice 10th September day, not very warm yet, but not very cold either. Holding a morning class was just how Joshua liked it. It was then that minds of the students were most alert and ready to learn. Hopefully the smell of damp soil and cool air in Greenhouse three where this morning’s lesson is being held, won’t cloud your senses too much.
As you enter greenhouse three the first thing you notice is that all the student work tables have been pushed together to create one long and wide octagonal table with the professors desk at the head and behind it a battered blackboard. On the table in front of each student workspace and cushioned chair a potted green, spiky, toothsome big and blooming plant, to the point of overgrowth with long mobile vines awaits it’s student carer. Yes, you might have guessed it already we’re working with the venomous tentacula today! They are sneaky and poisonous so stay alert and have your wand ready to evade the tentacula’s vines if needed.
Waiting just inside the door for the student's arrival Professor Wishart cautions each student as they pass by him "Welcome, please pull on your dragon hide gloves before you take a seat at the table! Be wary of the plant's mobile vines, they like to grab onto flesh. I don't like swearing in my classroom, but today I'll make an exception if the plants gets too playful and close."
OOC: Welcome to Herbology class! If you haven’t done so already then please read through the Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site rules. Note that IC this will not be the first lesson your student will have had with Professor Wishart this term.[U]Have fun! Class has started!
curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog
Nettie was exhausted - because SOMEONE had the brilliant idea to make them RUN every morning. Normally, she would have just rolled her eyes and gone back to sleep - but the threat of punishment was enough motivation to get her out of bed. Maybe first year Nettie would have taken her chances with a detention or points loss - but she was trying to do better this year. And that required NOT getting in trouble on the FIRST day of school.
"Good morning Professor!" she piped up as she walked in, putting on her gloves once she got to her station. Myers being gone was going to be WEIRD - but they had chosen the most GORGEOUS replacement for him, so she couldn't complain that much. Although, what was UP with these crazy plants? Was he TRYING to kill them? Right off the bat?
So, little Nettie took a few steps back from her post so she was well out of arms - vines? - reach of the plant.

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
First Herbology lesson of the year. Mark entered into the Green House with his Dragon-hide gloves already on and holding a pair of protective goggles in his hand should they be needed. He noted the layout of the desks in the greenhouse and the plants that were set up on each table. "Morning" he said quietly as he entered in
Mark had heard the stories of the Deadly plants in these Greenhouses. They were the most evil of all things that could kill you without remorse. Or so head was told. Of course he was also in Ravenclaw, and was told that Ravenclaws were to most likely to go crazy. But he wasn't going to go crazy. So how much of what he was told is true? What was Fake?
He stood a few feet from one of the open Desks and stared at the Plant. It was one of those ones that were of the dangerous sort at first glance. At second glance it DEFINITELY was one of those mean plants.
Anyways Mark would remain cautious and remain standing until instructed that he must take a seat.

Yaaaaaaaaaaawn!
It hadn't taken long for the excitement of the new school to drift away. Not that he wasn't still excited - he was at HOGWARTS, after all. big kid's school - but this was.... well. The running was ruining everything, including his motivation and excitement and and.
He was tired, okay?
Entering the greenhouse, Lucas came to a sudden stop by the door and looked around. Uh. Those plants? Those ones that they were working with that he didn't want to admit they were working with? They didn't look very friendly, did they? Look at those vines! And those spikes! Why couldn't they have normal nice plants that, uh, like to be petted??
And worst of all was the greeting. It gave him an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach and all he wanted to do was run to the nearest seat and sit and hide. But that was also rude and Mama raised him to be better so..... "Good...." He cleared his throat. "Good morning, Professor." Now can he go and sit down in a seat? Yeah?
In his haste to sit down, the first year didn't really pay attention to where he was going and ended up next to a random older girl (Nettie) he'd never talked to before. Uh, hi?
And she had her gloves on so he was going to take his out of his bag as well. At least it'll give him something to do while they waited that didn't mean concentrating on...... vines.

He can tell that people were hating S.O.R.E., but surprisingly, Charlie was enjoying it. For someone who enjoys the outdoors and physical activity, it was an absolute delight to take part in. In fact, he found himself energised and alert enough to start the day.
Merlin, why did he took him years to realize this, yeah? Maybe...maybe Scrimgeour wasn't that bad at all.
Anyway, Herbology. One of the many subjects he couldn't quite understand. Like...when will he ever use the subject once he goes professional in the Quidditch league? But then again...he needed to at least ace a few OWLs just to be safe. He knew he'd be in trouble if he failed this time around. With his dragon hide gloves on, American boy Charlie ventured inside the greenhouse and greeted everyone. Literally. "GOOD MORNING Y'ALL!" and were they going to deal with scary, big plants? "WOWZERS." he said as he approached an unclaimed workstation, and stood a safe distance away from the venomous...thing. "GOODMORNING YOU!" Charlie had his hand out towards the plant for a high five, but retracted his limb almost instantly when he saw its teeth.
Yeah okay, maybe he was being too friendly.

Now THIS is whnat Natalie was looking forward to. it had taken her five whole years, but she was finally finding her forte. Plants. Now, she wasn't GREAT with plants and had accidentally let one die over the summer, but Natalie was sort of getting back into her idea of going into healing, and herbology had a lot to do with it. So she was focusing on that since she was terrible at charms.
She was more excited for this morning than many others, but her excitement faltered a bit when she arrived and saw Derf struggling to just get inside. Then she heard the Professor's warning and wondered if he was having.. flashbacks of the end of last term or something. Natalie was worried about him, of course, but Stasya was by his side and she didn't want to crowd the doorway or overwhelm him. So she just paused for a moment beside him as she put on her gloves. "All right, Derf?" she asked gently with an encouraging smile.
Then she sort of moved on to a work table, careful of the vines, but kept an eye on him just in case.

Stella was beat after having to run five freaking laps around the quidditch pitch like they were in Military school! She really didn't like the way this school year was turning out, hopefully the old Headmistress would be back soon, she could only hope. Walking into the greenhouse with her dragon hide gloves on she looked in awe at all the plants. " Wow... these plants are amazing and awesome looking! There were different kinds of plants, she was careful not touch the mobile plant vines, she didn't want to lose any flesh if she could help it. Although that didn't stop her from looking around the place, look but don't touch! she reminded herself. How could such pretty plants be dangerous and deadly?
Waking towards the Professor she smiled. "Good Morning Professor, I hope you're well. Stella said. Seeing Beth and Daniel and Lucas she waved at the them. " Hello Beth, Daniel and Lucas. she said letting out a small yawn. That morning run didn't do anything to wake her up, if anything it made her more tired than anything. Seeing Rylee and Abra as well she waved at them.
So, for now, Derf was just going to hang near the door and take his time slipping on his gloves while he asked a question. "Can we...cast Immobulus on them?" he asked warily. "I...er...reckon I won't get much learning done if I have to keep an eye on their vines...."
Derfael was the first student to enter the greenhouse and Joshua detected hestitation and fear. Trying to sooth the prefect worries nodded "Yes Derfael, you are allowed to cast Immobulus on the vines. You are allowed to use Diffindo too if the plant get's too close."

Blue eyes fixed curiously on the man at his latter announcement, just before uttering her most used cuss word. Deadly plants and permission to swear. This was shaping up to be an....interesting lesson. Whether for better or worse was yet to be seen. “Have the plants been devenomed?” It was the only thing she could think of as no real precautions were given. The man must’ve known these things were safe, which frankly made them rather boring.
"Good morning Jessa!" Professor Wishart greeted the Head Girl with a smile. In answer to her question he said "Yes, the plants have been devenomed." But in all hoensty though these were young plants and their venom wasn’t deadly.

There was something different with the smell of manure’d soil inside of a greenhouse and when it was outside of one…it was like hot cow’s…right not going to think of that.
Why the morose tone? He wondered as Beth Greyvson greeted him. "Good morning Anabeth!" he replied back, deciding to not put any more thought into it. She probably was tired or didn’t like herbology or something else entirely.

Hanna donned her Dragonhide Gloves before stepping in and immediately recognising the Venemous Tentactulars. "W-would it be okay if I stun it or something if it gets too close?" she asked. Some people were a bit crazy for plants, and would choose to protect them over people. .
The excitement that Hanna seemed to glow with was hard to miss and what made Professor Wishart chirp smile at her. ”Good morning Hanna,” He was about to turn to the next student when he heard her question. Looking over at her he said "Yes, it’s most certainly okay if you stun the vines if they get too close." Because these plants were playful.

Was he nervous? Maybe. He liked having his skin without any mark, so he immediately put on his gloves and made sure his robe protected the rest of his arm and neck. They could be sneaky, right? With much curiosity, he observed the plant from a few feet apart from the table.
Did the boy just bow at him? Prof. Wishart was momentarily stunned before he found himself and returned the nod. "Good morning Frankie."

Hopefully he didn’t mind if she just stayed over near her friend to show support while courage was built up.
"Good morning Stasya!" Professor Wishart greeted with a smile as the lioness headed over to stand next to Derfael probably to show support, something he saw as a very nice and thoughtful of her.

Zackary’s entrance did not go unnoticed as he in a bit of a sulk it seemed entered and took a seat next to Jessa. Professor Wishart of course returned the boy’s nod. Maybe he should ask Kalen if it was a new Slytherin thing to not greet professor’s properly anymore? Hmm.

Shaking his head, the Ravenclaw took his seat at one of the tables and pulled out his wand in case the plant started to randomly attack.
"Hello Dorian!" Professor Wishart greeted as the young ravenclaw passed to take a seat with his gloves on and his wand out.

Ryder Carter’s silent entrance into greenhouse three didn’t go unnoticed. Joshua noted how he scooted his chair a few feet away from his workspace to clearly avoid the plant on the table. The slytherin knew how to take precautions that was clear.

What was it with these snakes? Joshua was now confuzzled as Maxton didn't greet him properly either. Just found a seat, checked his watch and pulled on his gloves. Odd. If the snake prefect had looked his way though Professor Wishart would have given a smile and a 'Good morning Maxton' though.

Checking the clock above the greenhouse door Joshua figured it was high time get his first lesson of the school year started. After closing the greenhouse door, he swiftly made his way to the front, to stand next to his blackboard in good view of all students.
"Good morning everyone! Welcome to another Herbology lesson. In case any of you may have forgotten my name is Professor Wishart." He greeted smiling broadly at all the student faces seated at the table. He touched his left robe pocket to make sure he had his wand there, before he continued. “As many of you might have already guessed we are working with Venomous Tentaculas today, that is a dangerous and poisonous plant that during the summer was fed too much fertilizer and food by the elves so now they are all pretty big and overgrown. But these tentaculas are young and not very dangerous and they have been devenomed before class. If one of your tentculas vines get's little too friendly and playful it's okay to use Immobuls, to stun or use Diffindo on them. Just try to be nice and caring against the plants. Before we start doing anything with the plants in front of you though, who can tell me some traits that the venomous tentaculas has?”
OOC: Class has now started! Thank you everyone for wanting to participate in my first ever Herbology lesson. :loved; I’m super glad and excited to see this lesson through with you guys. If you have yet to post in this lesson and wish to join in then just act as if your student has been there the whole, unless you want to them to show up late of course and suffer the IC punishment.
Joshua wants know ONE trait that your student knows about Venomous Tentaculas. Both correct, wrong and weird answers are accepted! Have fun! Have your students tentaculas vines get a little too close to them too if you want. Using Immobulus, stunning spell or Diffindo on the vines are okay. Lesson will move on in approx 24 hours @ roughly 7 pm GM+2 on Thursday September 6th since i close at work.

The sound of someone calling his name distracted him and he looked up, away from the gloves and away from the vines. "Hey, Stella!" He couldn't exactly wave because, uh, he was a little busy putting on his gloves but a smile would do, right?
With both of his gloves on, the first year stretched his fingers, clenching and unclenching his tiny fists to get used to how they felt. It didn't help that the plant in front of him was huge and had vines and teeth and everything but the gloves helped him feel a little bit safer, especially since he could hardly do a lot of magic.
And speaking of plant, he looked up at it as it was introduced and then over at the Professor. His heart lifted slightly when he heard the word devenomed but it wasn't enough to put him in a good mood about..... this. The plant still had vines and teeth and all sorts that would be dangerous and a big no-no in Lucas's book. Plus, he didn't even know how to cast the spells Wishart was talking about.
Traits? Physical ones? A question? That they had to answer? Lucas bit his lip but his hand still slowly inched its way up in the air. Did he know? Not really, but he was going to have a pretty good guess or Merlin help him. He took a few deep breaths before blurting out, "They have vines."
Awkward pause.
"They, uh, yeah, they have vines that are dangerous." Was this too obvious? They could SEE it, right? "They.... they try to grab you with those vines and strangle you. I mean.... that's one way they catch their food, right?" And he wasn't turning into plant food. No thanks.
Well, thank goodness the plants were devenomed before the lesson.
With her gloves on, Lex poked the plant in front of her gently. Weird things, weren't they? She drew her hand back as the vines responded to her touch.
She raised her hand at Professor Wishart's question, and patiently waited her turn to answer.
"Their bite can be fatal," she said, "because of their venom. You said these ones have been de-venomed, so I suppose we don't have to worry about that. But... their teeth could still hurt us."
She smiled at Professor Wishart. She liked him so far... much more than some of the other new staff. And Herbology wasn't so bad anyways.
Stella got a smile and a wave as she joined them, before Daehyun turned back to the Slytherin. Collect venom? He doubted professor Wishart would have left any venomous ones behind, so most likely not. He did try to keep up with Beth's questions and wondered what they'd do during the class, but the girl soon announced that he needed a new nickname, and that... he reminded her of one of her aunts...
... how lovely.
"What's wrong with Dusty?" he muttered just as professor Wishart got ready to begin the class. He was glad, because he could stop thinking about the names Beth would come up with and instead focus on the class.
As for things about the venomous tentacula? He raised his hand. "Venomous tentacula juice can make your skin purple," which, if it weren't for the whole poisonous thing, would've been quite awesome.

This Professor seemed nice to Tad. He had even called him Taddy instead of Mr. Potter like most everyone did. Maybe this lesson won't be so bad. So.. it was the Venomous Tentacula. He honestly did not know much outside the obvious threat they pose. So he soaked in the other's answers regarding shooting spikes and turning skin purple. Wow..
When it came his turn to answer, "They er... can be scary." Not that he was scared. Nope, nope. He was just being cautious around something that can kill or at the least hurt him badly.

Was it bad that Tessa was sort of looking forward to possibly having to stun the plant?
....... Maybe.
Oh well..... Tessa liked to rest her chin on her folded arms while she listened to Professors talk, but she sat up to answer questions. She raised her hand. "They have spikes, which are daaaangerous," she said with a grin. An obvious answer, and maybe one more simple that he would expect from an OWL student, but it was still a correct one nonetheless.

Venomous Tentaculas
Yeah, that didn’t sound dangerous at all. Venom and tentacles…the third year moving away from the nearest plant as one of the latter seemed to take interest. Fortunately there was some relief that they were no longer poisonous according to the new professor. It didn’t mean Septimus wanted to be anywhere near one of the those spikes. As the first question was posed, the Ravenclaw tried to focus on an answer rather than on the plant wanting to try to strangle him.
“They eat chizpurfles,” he answered after raising his hand. At least he thought that was what he remembered them eating.

Hanna was very relieved that she was allowed to use magic on the Venemous Tentaculas to protect herself. And thankful Professor Wishart wasn't so in love with plants that he put them over people. Whatever worked for you, though.
She was settling in to class when he asked the first question. It took a moment to have a think about it, as she listened to some of the other suggestions. They were dangerous, yes, and just one look at them could give you many observations. But they were all... well, bad, weren't they? She raised her hand and said "Professor they can be used to assist with defending one. I mean, if you were being attacked you could throw the plant to whoever is attacking you, and the Venemous Tentacula would attack them and give you enough time to get away. Expecially because they'd be too busy to fish their wand out." So... if only there was some way of containing them so that people with fears of being attacked, for whatever reason, could walk about safely.

Zoryn Spinnet was NOT happy. And NO ONE was happy when Zoryn wasn't happy. She would make sure of it.
Like, SERIOUSLY????????????????????
8:30 IN THE MORNING???
Literally all of these new Professors just waltzed in here like they owned the school and decided that everyone would wake up at the crack of dawn for their lessons. Didn't they know that SHE owned this school??????
Name one trait of the Venomous Tentacula? Easy. "If you get on its bad side, you'll find yourself in a living nightmare. Kind of like me. I share that trait with the Tentacula."
And yes, that was a warning.
And yes, he was already off to a terrible start.

So they had been devenomed Well, that was to be expected wasnt it? Especially with how the new Headmaster had been with them. Jackson had a sudden vision of the House Elves coming in here to feed these plants that were probably bigger than some of them. As the professor continued the second part of his warning, Jackson looked at the plant beside him and wondered if they were expected to somehow befriend them at some point? Professor Wishart HAD said too friendly. Knowing that it would be stupid to pretend that this was actually the way of things, he observed his tentacula plant for a moment. What did he know about them? Their seeds sound like theyre rattling even if they arent actually moving, Jackson was moving his head around, wondering if they would see any seeds yet or if the plants were too young still. He could also remember that people have died from this plant He couldnt remember who right now, but he knew that one of the legendary professors of Hogwarts spouse had been killed by a bite once.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Ah okay they were Devenomed...weird word that was, devenomed. So far Herbology wasn't as dangerous as it it had been built up to be. Mark stepped a little closer to the plant one of the heads on it slowly following his movement though he felt safer that was a little creepy.
"Some of the Venomous Tentacula can have multiple heads on different appendages" He answered, it was a blessing his dad had books about all the dangerous man-eating plants.

Mornings weren't Madison's favourite, but she could live with them. Especially when an interesting lesson was involved. Yep, venomous tentaculas had certainly grabbed her attention, and she was staring at the one in front of her curiously, not in the least bit afraid. Obviously they weren't TOO much of a threat if they were devenomed and the professor was RIGHT THERE. He wouldn't put anyone in danger, and it wasn't as if there weren't any stunning spells.
Still, she would be careful because she wasn't stupid.
Madison raised her hand. "Some forms shoot out spiky balls towards whatever they are targeting. As if they weren't freaky enough as it was..." Huh.

Wowzers. Remind him never to get on the wrong side of Zoryn Spinnet.
Max shuffled anxiously in his seat and found himself wondering why they couldn’t learn about Flitterblooms instead. He didn’t know all that much about the Venomous Tentacula but judging by the facts everyone was rolling off, they weren’t exactly friendly plants.
There was a reason he’d only just about managed to scrape a pass in his Herbology OWL and the only characteristic he knew was that they had teeth. And that they liked to bite.
Still, he raised his arm and had an attempt at an educated guess. “Uhhhhh, they’re carnivores...?”
Nothing like starting the day in the company of a man-eating plant. NOT.

Kimi listened to the professor's question and raised his hand and said "The seeds of the Venomous Tentacula are very valuable to herbologists" Kimi knew that hadn't been answered yet and he knew about the seeds seeing as sometimes he had to go and purchase them on the odd occasion for his mum
Still very much bored, Zachary barely heard what the professor said - he sat there, tracing the vines with his wand and paying no attention. It was all blah blah blah anyway.
No really, what did he have to do to get out of here?
Also when was lunch? And Quidditch tryouts?
Everyone who spoke was like background noise as he drifted off into his own thoughts. His lost gaze remained glued to the plant however, which was also why his wand was now dangerously close to poking the plant in a not so friendly way.

An exhausted Józef Kowalski was not a sight his parents were used to, so they'd have been pretty shocked to see the usually energised eleven year old having to put in effort to hold his head up in class.
Everything about Hogwarts was going wrong, and it wasn't even a fortnight into the term. First he'd been sorted into the WRONG house, and then he'd had to get up and start RUNNING every day?! Before the SUN wasn't even out?!
As if that wasn't bad enough, he had to have lessons at stupid o'clock, too, and even if the Venomous Tentacula was very interesting and kinda insane, Jó was EXHAUSTED and could barely think straight, let alone answer questions. So he had planned on sitting there in silence, when someone mentioned something about skin turning purple.
And he REMEMBERED. So his hand shot into the air in a sudden burst of surprising energy, waving about a little frantically until it was his turn to speak. "The comedian guy, whatsisface, Shimpy or Shipling or something -" His name didn't really matter, after all. "- he ate a WHOLE one on a bet and ended up purple forEVER. Everyone thought he was going to die. Absolute legend."
That was the kind of facts one could expect from this Gryffindor: hella useful ones.

With her eyes still focused on the Venomous Tentacula sitting on the table before, Rylee pushed her chair back far enough to hopefully be out of reach of its vines. Reaching down for her bag she quickly fished out a sheet of parchment, her quill and her textbook to use as a table.
Pulling one leg up under her onto the chair she was able to balance her textbook on her leg so she could take notes. For now. Switching her wand to her right hand she was ready. Only did her gaze move from the plant for a second when the girl (Dizzy) sitting beside her spoke. "Hello, I'm Rylee," she smiled softly in greeting. A smile went to Stella as well when the younger lioness walked past her.
As for the professors question she choose not to answer this time. Not because she had no idea on the answer, for she did. Her love of Herbology gave her knowledge on many many plants and flowers. She simply didn't want to repeat what was already said. Taking notes was just fine to her.

((Ooc : playing catch up. Skyler is not late!))
After the running and breakfast, Skyler ended up at the greenhouse for her first morning class. She did not like this year. Not at all. So when the professor asmed the first question, she blinked. Guess she wasn't paying Attention.
Stella looked at Lucas and Rylee and smiled at them befoee turning her attention to the professor. Hm...what did she know about venomous tentacles? Not... alot, but she knew a couple of things about them. Although most of the answers were told already, she didn't know what else to say. Maybe she could tell them something, hey it was better than nothing.
She raised her hand."The shape of its mouth tends to vary, along with many leaves surrounding it." she said not really knowing if that was knowledge about them or not. Although it was something that she knew about them. She knew quite alot about Herbology and was quite good at it, although that was the magical plants at home.
