Skyler did not waste any time eating as she knew she had detention that night. Why did she have to do that? Whatever, she wasn't taking what she said back. Straight after dinner, Skyler headed to the armour gallery to serve her detention. She had a pretty good idea about what was going to happen. She quietly entered the room and spotted Professor Fletcher there. She glanced down and saw a bucket with water. Yeah, this would be a great night. *Insert sarcasm here*

Calvin glanced down at his watch as the Slytherin entered the room. On time. Good. Prompt. Good.

He looked her over in the silence, waiting but when the expected did not materialize, he fixed her with a severe look. "Do you not know the phrase 'good evening'? Did you lose half your vocabulary on the way up?" He supposed he couldn't expect much better. The students here had thus far proven to be lacking in the manners department.

"Exit and walk back inside. Don't forget the polite greeting this time."

Well sorry for being nervous, Skyler inwardly rolled her eyes. She didn't respond to his question but did walk out and tried again.
"Good evening Professor Fletcher. I apologize for the lack of respect. Her voice was not the least bit sarcastic. He was right, she could have at least said hello.

"Better." He acknowledged once she'd re-entered with the proper greeting. "Good evening, Ms. Queen." He was a hard man, but he was also aware respect was a two way street. He had no reason not to return her greeting.

Calvin drew his wand and conjured a comfy chair and took a seat. They would be here for an hour, there was no need for him to remain standing the whole time. "Before we begin, I'd like you to hand over your wand." He said calmly, his arm outstretched and waiting.

Standard detention procedure.

"I'd also like for you to tell me, in your own words, why you have been given detention."

Skyler inwardly shrugged and handed her wand over.
"Because I disrespected the head master," she said.
Was that a good enough answer or did she need to try again?

"You lost points for disrespecting the Headmaster." He corrected simply. Her wand was pocketed for now and a book was pulled from the next pocket. It was an interesting read, one on meditation and the power of the mind. He'd already gotten through most of it and suspected, depending on his work load, that he may have been finished by Friday.

"Why did you get detention?"

It was a simple question but only if the girl took the time to really think about the events of the morning and her own reaction to being corrected and called out on her first bout of disrespect. Self awareness was a powerful thing that many people lacked to their own detriment, he found.

"Because I lost points for disrespecting the head master," Skyler said.
She took a bresth and let it out. Don't be sarcastic. Don't be sarcastic.

Her response had told him even more about the Third Year, namely that it was likely she couldn't help herself. Showing his own restraint, Calvin refrained from rolling his eyes, a courtesy, you see. Another courtesy, he lowered his book to look her square in the eyes. "No one has implied you're stupid, except you." The thought hadn't crossed his mind--not seriously anyhow--but it seemed to cross hers.

"Giving an answer in your own words, doesn't make it correct automatically. Begin cleaning while you think it over." He waved a hand lazily toward the suits that seemed to have grown more dusty in the time they'd spent having their little discussion.

"If you expect every answer to be dropped on your lap. I'm afraid you're in for a rather sore life." The spoon feeding and molly coddling ended here. Calvin was sure if she probably to exercise even one of her neurons, the answer would pop out.

She'd done something to provoke the detention after she'd already been reprimanded and asked to fall in line.

This wasn't rocket science.

Then why did you ask?? She thought to herself. She took the rag and dunked it in the water. She started cleaning the suits of armour not saying anything after that.

The silence suited him well, it was conducive to his reading and so long as she was cleaning, the job was being done. Unfortunately for her, the longer she remained quiet, that is, not giving the correct answer was the most dust that seemed to show up, even in placed she'd already cleaned.

If this surprised him, he didn't show it at all. Rather, the man remained with his eyes fixed on the page he'd come to in his reading. He knew this process well and how things would unfold.

It was in her best interest to think about this before the hour ended.

After a while of what felt like five minutes of cleaning, Skyler frowned as she stood back looking at the dust forming on the armour that she was cleaning. These suits were charmed. Why did he charm them? Did he not like her that much?
"What answer do you expect exactly?" She tried to ask after a bit with genuine confusion in her voice.

Calvin sighed, lowering his book once more. He didn't answer at first, wondering if she hadn't taken him seriously when he said he wouldn't be giving out the answer like homework or...he supposed like how some people gave out candy.

The man let her question settle between them in the room, giving her the chance to take the question back or answer it for herself.

No?

Very well.

"I expect the answer that clearly outlines the reason you were given detention, specifically. Not the reason you'd first drawn attention to yourself. The reason you're standing here now instead of off with your mates, enjoying your evening." But he wouldn't be any clearer than that. He'd already said enough. With that, he turned his attention to his book once more.

"Right," Skyler answered. "And the reason would be that I refused to run at first at least and that I disrespected the headmaster," she answered.
She did continue to wash the armour, even if he had charmed it or not, it was relaxing though, the motion of washing and what not.

"Again, you were already punished for disrespecting the Headmaster and there were several students that did not want to run but are not now standing next to you in detention. Think harder."

Or scrub harder. It was entirely her choice. The dust and grime wasn't going anywhere otherwise. She would find, that if she did scrub with an excessive amount of force, the dust didn't reappear.

By the end of the night she would leave here either sore, or with clearer understanding of her actions. Whichever came first.

Skyler almost facepalmed at this. Of course. Of course! God, how the hell can she really be that stupid!! Oh well, she figured it out now. She nodded and turned to look at him, the rag dripping wet onto her shoes. She ignored it
"How can I be so stupid to not realize," She muttered. "It's because I disrespected you," she said now understanding.

((ooc:I hope that is right! :p. Sorry about that. In real life, I didn't get it either or else I would have just answered right away.

"Better." He conceded with a small nod of his own. It was, more or less, the reason she'd been given detention. She'd been reprimanded and chosen to show further disrespect. Not a wise choice in hindsight, he was sure.The man waved his hand in gesture for her to go on cleaning. Knowing the right answer didn't mean she was now excused from her task. Actions had consequences, whether you learned from them or not, the consequences were still there.

"Disrespecting a Professor is never the answer, never. It's even less the answer when you were in the wrong to begin with." Whether she had disagreed with Scrimgeour or not, it wasn't her place to tell him how to instruct his staff. To be told as much and decide to meet that with further defiance, well that would naturally land her here.

Thankfully, if she did begin to clean again, she would notice the dust was not quite so resilient anymore.

"How else do you think the situation could've been handled?"

Skyler was nodding as he talked. He did have a point.
"Well, I could have just kept my mouth shut in the first place and just decided to walk instead," she said.
She started to clean the dust off again, glad that it was letting up.

"An excellent point. Sometimes turning and walking away is the more effective and appropriate reaction in a given situation. Not everything has to be met with outbursts and angst." Something teenagers in general seemed chock full of. It was an epidemic with no real cure except discipline and a firm hand to guide them through the phase. In this case, Ms. Queen appeared to finally be getting where he was coming from with this. He was satisfied with the response.

Calvin glanced along the corridor. She'd barely made progress and he didn't think she would be wanting to stay here longer than necessary to get it all done. "Continue cleaning, until you can see your reflection in each and every suit, once that is done, I'll inspect your work and decide if it meets my standards."

Until then, he would get back to his reading.

"Yes sir," she said and continued onward. She was halfway done with one suit. This was going to be a long night. He's not that bad of a guy honestly. As she continued to clean, she got lost in thought. What would the rest of the year be like? Hopefully better than this.

Much like the young girl, Calvin also grew lost in his own world. It was brilliant luck not having given a particularly chatty student detention. He would not have to suffer through it. Of course, he wouldn't have suffered long before a well placed silencio but this way worked too and required minimal effort.

Occasionally, he glanced up to make sure she was still hard at work but otherwise, his attention was on the pages of his book.

As Skyler worked on, she was making progress on the suits, working at a steady pace. It didn't seem like long, even though it might have been a couple of hours, when she was done. Skyler stepped back a bit and looked at the suits. She smiled a bit, just a bit, when she could see her relfection in them. She glanced outside. It was already dark and the moon was high in the sky.
"I'm done professor," she said to get his attention

The sound of her voice drew him from the pages of his book. Calvin took the moment to finish his sentence before closing the book and getting up from the chair. Silently, he walked the length of the corridor, looking at each suit. For some, he stayed longer to observe, others he could see the shine effortlessly.

Overall, it was a decent job.

"Alright Ms. Queen, you're free to go. I trust you'll remember, what we've discussed. Better ways of reacting to situations." He pulled her wand from his pocket and offered it over.

"I won't be so lenient if you find yourself in the same position a second time." Fair warning.

This was linient? She mentally shrugged. She guesses it was. Don't say anything Queen.
"Yes sir," she said again with no hint of sarcasm.
"Hope the rest of your evening is okay," she said and meant it before making her exit.
