It was the day before Halloween, and the Fall weather was lovely this afternoon and absolutely perfect for their lesson today. All the new school rules aside, Professor Wayland was not going to break tradition. He had the lesson set up just outside of the Barn as usual, with his trusty blackboard and hay bale semi circle.
No hay bale throne today? Professor Wayland sat sipping his Chai on a single hay bale. The Professor was a little out of sorts, but he would press through for his students. And so he sat, sipping away with a quiet smile, impatiently awaiting his fantastic pupils to get there so this fun lesson could be started.
OOC: Welcome to the first CoMC Lesson of the term! Though this is our first lesson together, this is not the first CoMC lesson of the year, so please keep that in mind! Please make sure you take a gander at the CoMC Rules while waiting. Class will start in 24 hours. Class has started! Please, jump in and pretend you were there the whole time! But remember if you have your charrie show up late there will be IC consequences!
If Abra wanted to do the luring, that was more than okay with Madison. Obviously if she had a preference, she would have mentioned it previously. As it was, she gave him a thumbs up before putting the goggles on. "Sounds good to me." Hopefully there wouldn't be any incidents, but if they were careful - which they would be - nothing should go wrong.
Her eyes looked around at all the trees, and any of them seemed to be good enough to harvest from. She was going to try and go after the wood, as opposed to the wood lice. And figured that it wouldn't be too hard to get what the professor required of them. "Ready." And it shouldn't be too hard to get one of them to eat the offered food. That was unless Professor Wayland made it look A LOT easier...
When it was clear that Madison was all set, Abra gave her a confident smile - more confident than he had any business being, but that was besides the point - and nodded. With the food for the bowtruckles in hand (or in crook-of-elbow) he started towards one of the nearby trees, one that had not been claimed by any other sets of students.
Now that he was paying closer attention, Abra could see the little pairs of eyes that were looking down at them from among the branches. Remembering what Wayland had said about their tendency to gouge at the eyes, he used his free hand to make extra sure his goggles were secure, before stepping a little closer and holding out his hand to one of the lower branches, as he had watched Professor Wayland do. And then he waited.
And waited.
....... Aaaaaaaaand waited.
Well, none of the bowtruckles had come down to try and warn him off, but... they also hadn't come down to take the bait, either. This was... a problem, because they had a task to do. After a good few minutes of solid nothing, Abra withdrew his hand, wandered a little way around the tree, and found another relatively low branch that he could almost reach. Holding up his hand, this time he had slightly better luck.
Slightly better luck. This time, a very cautious, tall, and spindly looking bowtruckle lowered itself down from the branch. Immediately, Abra went very still. Too still, perhaps. Tense, even. Maybe the bowtruckle sensed it too, and thought that that meant he was going to attack or something, because it suddenly gave his finger a poke and darted back into the tree. Mildly alarmed, Abra stepped back and away from that particular branch.
"Uhhh... third time's a charm?" he said to Madison, trying to sort of laugh it off rather than get too demoralised by his lack of success with the creatures so far. Continuing around the tree, Abra came to the first branch again, the one he could reach with a little more ease, and decided to try his luck with it for a second time. He held out the hand with all the woodlice in it, and tried to maintain a casual, non-threatening demeanour. It took... a fair amount of time for anything to happen, but Abra decided to employ his Gryffindor stubbornness, and didn't move from the branch. Eventually, finally, a bowtruckle lowered itself to Abra's hand. Abra watched it, wondering if he was going to get another finger poke or maybe even a full-on scratch, but after a moment the bowtruckle happily (or... it seemed happy, at least) sat in his hand and began gorging itself on the woodlice.
Relieved, Abra broke into a grin, and looked across at Madison. "Okay, I think you're good to start harvesting now. Um. Finally." Heh.

Nettie smiled. "Well, I'll lure one out, and then when it takes the wood lice from me, you can take the wood from the branch under the bowtruckle," she explained. Seemed easy enough. Hopefully they'd like her offering...otherwise this was going to be a LOT more complicated.
Goggles in place, she took a handful of the wood lice and approached the tree. "Heeeere, little bowtruckles!" she called out to them. She held out her hand, and after a few moments, one of them poked it's head out from the depth of the branches and inspected her wood lice carefully. Then, it poked her finger with a little squeak. Nettie remembered Wayland saying that was a sign to back off, so she quickly drew her hand away.
Alright. So THAT one had no interest in her.
She moved on to the next branch, hoping that ONE of them would want her offering. After a few more minutes, a tiny bowtruckle, smaller than the one before, inspected her offering and then picked up some of the wood lice, nibbling at it. Nettie smiled and then handed it a fairy egg, like Wayland had done. The bowtruckle let out a happy squeak (she assumed it was happy?) and then started to munch away on the egg.
Looked like it was all clear for Stella...
Stella nodded. " Ok got it, good luck!" she said giving her a soft warm smile. Stella Hoped it waw was easy for her, she looked around and seen that some people were having some trouble. They looked so cute, how can they harm you?
Stella watched and waited seeing the Bowtruckle poke Nettie's fnnger she bit her lip. " Well... that didn't go well, I'm sure it'll be better the next time around. " she said with an encouraging smile. Ok... so this might be alittle bit hard, but that's ok not everything in life was easy at first.
Seeing the a smaller Bowtruckle took Nettie's offer she smiled. Reaching her hand gently through the branch and took the wood under the branch that was under the Bowtruckle. "There! I got it!" she said happily. "Aw...it's so cute, good job!" she said.

"I'll do the harvesting. Go get us a bowtruckle." Chloe twirled her wand briefly before reaching into their box and extracting the wood lice. "I think I'll get us some wand wood, so make good friends with one so I don't lose an eye." She offered the wood lice and a pair of goggles to the younger girl.
Lizzie nodded to Chloe and put on the goggles.
"Alright." she breathed, swallowing hard and then approaching the tree closer.
Dumping some woodlice in her hand she raised her hand to the tree.
"Hello little friends, we'd like a small gift of some wood from your tree." she cooed in a gentle and quiet voice.
She stood as still as she could and was thankful when her patience was rewarded and a small Bowtruckle popped it's head out from a branch high above. It began to climb down slowly toward her but then it hesitated.
Lizzie began to hum a song, the melody to Lavenders Blue. The Bowtruckle tilted it's head, listening.
Lizzie continued to hum the song and the Bowtruckle seeming mesmerized continued down towards her, reaching out a slender finger to pick at the woodlice in her hands.
Lizzie smiled gently at the small creature as it gobbled up the gift. She slowly reached into the jar in her pocket for more woodlice and deposited more in her hand.
"There you are." she replied to the little creatures happy sounding clicks.
The Bowtruckle nodded to Lizzie and then turned to look at Chloe.
"She's a friend, she and I would like a little wood." Lizzie explained.
She wasn't sure how much a wild Bowtruckle knew of English but she hoped the tone in her voice was enough. She also gestured to herself and Chloe and then to the tree.
The Bowtruckle seemed to think and then gave a little nod before it scuttled back up the tree to it's branch. Lizzie let out the biggest breath, she hadn't realized she'd been holding it in.
"I'm surprised that worked." Lizzie half laughed, half breathed.
She looked up at the branch, high above.
"I'll give you a leg up, or you can stand on my back." she replied.
Natasha took note of her classmates nickname for the future. She followed Juni to the tree, and saw the little eyes. She wanted to squeal in delight at how adorable the little creature was, but refrained, not wanting to startle him. "If you change your mind, just come find us." she told the Bowtruckle with a soft time when he poked Juni's finger. "I could have sworn I saw some eyes peeking out from this branch." she pointed to the left of where Juni was standing.
That first attempt at trying to get a bowtruckle was a complete and utter fail. But Juni wasn’t ready to give up yet. Apparently either was Tasha. She was sad that the bowtruckle had lef. Oh well there was more bowtruckles in the tree. Nodding at what the younger girl had said.
”Oh alright. Let’s try over there then.” She moved the fairy egg jar and stepped out to her left. Trying this again. She held up her hand and waited. Slowly she seen another pair of tiny eyes appear. Aww. When the little arm of the bowtruckle moved forward toward her hand, she held her breath. What it going to poke her again or take the wood lice.
Sure enough the bowtruckle accepted the wood lice in her hand. After the creature had a nibble on a wood lice she handed over a fairy egg from the jar and give it to the bowtruckle. Now it was time to for Tasha to do the harvesting.

Tristan was honestly amazed that none of the students had asked for help...or had a question.....or needed to go to the bathroom.....or any other silly frivolous teenage thing that they could think up to get out of doing any work. Even Zoryn was doing a good job...which was actually really shocking. She needed to stick with Max. Seemed like he was a good motivator for her.
Hearing a series of small squeaking noises, Tristan looked down at his pocket to see Dahlia begging for another fairy egg. "You're going to spoil your dinner." Another series of squeaks, and the little creature shaking her fist at him. Tristan sighed and rolled his eyes, "Fine but this is the last one you get today, and I mean it." He shook his head, with a tiny hint of a smirk, and handed her another fairy egg. She squeaked with delight and sank back into his pocket. "You're welcome." He said with a chuckle.
He quickly checked his watch and called out, "Ten minutes everyone!" He folded his arms across his chest watching as his students attempted to harvest.
OOC: You all are doing awesome! You have about 23 hours to get this activity done!!! Good luck!

Luring and harvesting.
Harvesting and luring.
Septimus didn’t much care which role he himself played in this activity. Goggles on the top of his head for now, he listened attentively to Professor Wayland as he spoke, describing to them all what he wanted each of the sets of partners to do for him today. Then it was all a matter of them being released to have at it which happened soon enough so the Ravenclaw and his partner could decide who did what and get to work.
After finally pulling down his goggles securely over his eyes, Septimus tentatively moved closer and closer to the nearest tree. He was to be the lure. “Nice little guys…” he said quietly, doing his best to act calmly and like the professor had demonstrated. Some wood live in his hand that he slowly loved closer to a branch in hopes of attracting the attention of a bowtruckle or two. Hopefully at least one would see him as the kind fellow he was.
There was rustling in the tree’s foliage and he almost froze in reaction, not wanting to scare the cause of the movement. Taking a deep breath, he chanced moving just a little closer, lifting his arm inch by inch towards the branch that was connected to the source of the rustling. Not too close to the source to make it seem like he was hounding his target but close enough that the bowtruckle…if it was a bowtruckle and not wind or something…could sense the wood lice.

Relieved, Abra broke into a grin, and looked across at Madison. "Okay, I think you're good to start harvesting now. Um. Finally." Heh.
The confident smile was returned, and really Madison was very sure that they would be able to get this done with very little problem at all. The worst part would be coaxing one of the bowtruckles over, but once that was sorted they would have this in the bag. She already had her wand at the ready and stood in what she deemed to be a good position; not TOO close to the tree since she didn't have any food in her hands to offer, but also not too far away. Now all she had to do was wait...
Things weren't picking up just YET, but with all that tempting food, one should come at any moment now?
Maybe?
Another smile was sent at Abra, as well as a thumbs up. Third time WAS the charm, and indeed after a little while more waiting, it seemed that one had taken the bait and was eating out of the palm of his hand. "Awesome!" And there still seemed to be a decent amount of time left because Professor Wayland hadn't told them to wrap things up.
With a nod, Madison made her way over to the tree, trying to catch a glimpse of the bowtruckles as she did so. She wasn't all that familiar with them, though she had seen them before. She had never fed one, but she figured she could always do that later if she wanted... At the moment she was more focused on finding a good branch to cut for wand wood. Professor Wayland had said that it needed to be about 2 inches by at least 12 inches, so she was scanning for anything that would fit with that, finally settling on one that wasn't too high up.
Reaching on her tiptoes, she grabbed a hand of the branch and held it steady while with her other she proceeded to sever the branch from the tree using Diffindo. It was a little bit too long, so she used another Diffindo so that it was about 12.5 inches long give or take.
The wood was held up in triumph. Now the bowtruckle just needed to be returned to its branch and the piece of wood placed in the container near the barn. They had done good!

And, well, to the bowtruckle's benefit, she was doing better. Less snippy and trigger happy with her fingers for the most part.
And what lessons his own bowtruckle had to offer, the brunette had certainly taken on board because she was doing amazing right now. Mesmerized watching her and the creature interact, he truly DID forget that he had a task to perform as well and was only reminded of it when he caught her gaze flicker in his direction and his spine straightened a bit.
RIGHT!
Smiling at her, he offered a quick nod that she...may or may not have noticed ...Derf quickly and quietly sidestepped his way around the pair and over to the tree from whence the bowtruckle had come from. Carefully retrieving his wand and pointing it at the underside of the thick branch and caaaaarefully administered a Severing Charm to slice a thin sheet off and gingerly collected it. Clicking and chattering his teeth, Derf muttered a thank you of sorts in bowtruckle to the tree and any other lingering creatures that may still be hidden within the leaves and branches.
Sidestepping more quickly back, he hurried over to the container by the barn and deposited it as instructed.
Well, that was pretty easy. When Derf had seen the noticed about needing to wear more casual clothing and not their robes, he had honestly been expecting something a bit more, well, active than the gentle luring of bowtruckles with woodlice.
Wood deposited, Derf cautiously approached Natalie and reached to grab a bit of woodlice for himself and held the pile spread out between both his hands as he quite literally went to lay down on the ground beside her. "...you're doing brilliantly," he whispered to her, laying his hands on the ground before him in case the bowtruckle wanted some more woodlice.
She did notice the nod he gave her and wondered if he had been watching her the whole time. But she didn't want to distract herself from her new Bowtruckle friend in front of her, so she turned her attention back to her new friend and cooed at him as he ate his little snack. Meanwhile, she caught Derf getting to work out of the corner of her eye. They made a GOOD pair, she thought.
The Bowtruckle seemed to trust her quite a bit now and was happily snacking on his woodlice. Then she saw Derf return and... lay down on the ground. She grinned at him at his compliment, taking it to heart, because Derf would know best. "I'm glad it's going well. At least much better than when Picketta sees me," she said with a little laugh. Looking back at her bowtruckle, Natalie admired the little green thing with a smile. "Maybe I'll come visit you," she said, paused, and then continued. "But I suppose I'll have to bring a professor with me..." Because of those new rules. Hmm.

Natasha had to hold back another squeal. The little Bowtruckle was just so adorable. "Can I offer him a fairy egg after I harvest the wood?" she asks hopeful. She made sure no Bowtruckles were hiding in the branch beneath the one they found him on, then she measured it. "Deffindo!" She severed the branch as close to the right length as she could. "Just look at how precious he is!" she definitely needed one of these little guys!

Well.
Okay then.
Kaitlynn had a bowtruckle and was feeding it the woodlice and fairy egg she had. It was kind of cute, in a twiggy way. She'd never thought a tree was cute, but then most trees didn't move, and weren't teeny tiny.
Professor Wayland's instructions were to make a small hole in the tree, and then summon the wood lice into the jar. No problem, she could do that.
With the ways of making a hole in the tree running through her head, she decided to go with the Gouging spell. "Defodio," she said, pointing her wand and doing the wand movement at the tree, stopping when a small hole was formed. Now... summoning!
"Accio Wood lice," she said, clearly clearly clearly. She was amazed when a small trickle of wood lice came out of the tree. Using the jar, she used it to collect the wood lice coming out of the tree. There weren't a lot... and once the small stream of wood lice stopped she saw that her jar was only about half full. She thought perhaps either her spell wasn't powerful enough, or the hole wasn't large enough. So, picking a spot a bit away from her original hole, she made another one, and cast "Accio Wood lice," performing it with the dome-like wand movement. The wood lice came out with the same trickle, but it was enough to fill the jar up.

Jessa became just a little more alert when Kaitlyn withdrew from the bowtruckle but as things hadn't really escalated, there was no need for her intervention. The Head Girl remained where she stood, watching the girl approach a new one and find success on the second go.
Less eventful than she'd have had it done but within the rules so it was good. Jessa remained where she was while Hanna collected the woodlice. Yet another action that went off without a hitch.
Once they were done, she stepped forward and drew her wand. Non-verbally, she began stripping and ripping at the wood. She worked diligently to get the chunks of wood into symmetrical shapes. The Professor hadn't said how much of the wood he wanted harvested but once the older girl had a decent pile going she felt it was enough.
"That should do it." She said, now levitating the stack of wood. "I'll go get these over by the barn but it looks like we're done now."
And with less than ten minutes left, looked like they were getting things done just in time.

"Yeah, yeah, I got this," not really, but would it really be Zoryn Spinnet if confidence weren't involved? Didn't think so. The Gryffindor reached into the kit to pull out another fairy egg and offered the second one to the twig creature too. Which, by the way, the Bowtruckle LOVED.
She had this thing eating right out of the palm of her hand. Literally.
When Max announced he was done, it took all of Zoryn's self-restraint not to announce 'GEEZ, FINALLY,' the way she wanted to. Instead, the Gryffindor looked back over at the Bowtruckle. "You heard him! Scram!" And really, that's all it took for him to climb back up into the branch.

Lucas gasped. "You were SHORT?!" Okay, it..... wasn't that bid of a deal but it was a HUGE deal to Lucas. See, this meant that there was hope for him. It meant that maybe he could grow up to be as tall as Gryffindor tower one day. He would just have to stick out these few years until it happened. "So you...... didn't use Stretching Charms?" He had to know.
He let Théo grab the supply kit and walked back with him. It made him feel a bit useless because he was just the small kid following the tall kid who was carrying the things they needed. And he was just..... trying not to swing his arms too much.
But then Wayland started speaking, which was a nice distraction...... or so he thought. Did he just give a warning? About being HARMED?! He..... wasn't sure if they should start to worry or not so he started paying close attention to the demonstration. He craned his neck to try and see as much as he could and was a little glad to see that there was....... just a poke. A small poke. Phew because, uh, he was partnered up with a cool older kid and he didn't want to seem scared in front of him.
This was like Zoryn all over again but with less dramatic acting.
The first year turned to Théo and frowned in thought at the question. It wasn't hard, was it? He couldn't do the charm they needed to do so unless Wayland had a chainsaw, Lucas wasn't going to do any harvesting. And these fingers weren't made for scratching.
"I can do the luring and you can do the harvesting? I mean..... I have an innocent face." He even smiled to try and prove it.
Some more nodding from Théodore. He didn't remember how exactly short he was since he never cared enough to remember the exact number. but he was. now he was almost 6 foot 3. Yikes. Stretching Charm sounds like it would have hurt. He seems to remmber someone trying that when he was like in fourth year.
"No, no stretching charm. I would have been up in the hospital wing if i tried that. Think its painful"
See Lucas was a smart one and didn't even need Théo tell tell him which of the jobs they should do. He was fine with harvesting.
"Good idea. distract one long enough for me to sever some wood. Guess dont feel too rejected if one well rejects you"
Now they had a plan now at least

“Totally,” Max concurred, still grinning as he non-verbally levitated their wood pile and directed it towards the container Wayland had supplied. Was he showing off? Maybe just a little. “Between your awesome luring techniques and my impressive wand skills we aren’t half bad.”
Was that it? Was lesson over? Could they leave now?
Because he wasn’t thinking about snogs (not right now anyway, heh), he was too busy thinking about his STOMACH.
All this caring for magical creatures malarkey was hungry work.

No Stretching Charms? AT ALL?!
Lucas found this hard to believe. Because, uh, the boy was towering over everyone and he was sure that that wasn't natural. But then he mentioned something about Stretching Charms being painful and ending up in the Hospital Wing and...... yeah, that was not happening. That was all he needed to hear to know not to do that.
Not that he was going to but...... you know. It was a plan.
"Yeah.... I don't want to end up in the Hospital Wing. Not for something like this." Maybe for something COOL but he wasn't sure what that was. "You're very lucky, then." And he felt a little deflated that he didn't know what Théo's secret was but that was that.
And they had a Bowtruckle to lure, didn't they?
Lucas nodded and started grabbing as much Woodlice as he could fit in his tiny palms. Oh, and fairy eggs? He grabbed one of those too. He had to admit: the woodlice were........ weird to hold. Really weird. He pulled a face at the woodlice and tried to hold it as far away from his body as possible. He was sure he didn't have to worry about any jumping out and attacking him but they were BUGS and...... yeah. It was weird.
But the rest of the process was pretty simple. He chose a spare branch that was closer to his height than Théo's - sorry, Théo - and held up his hand to the branch. Just there. Now if a Bowtruckle could come and take the offering as quickly as possible, they could move on and high-five about all of this later. That was the exact plan he had in-
Oh! Look, a Bowtruckle!
Lucas's eyes widened as he watched the Bowtruckle closely. He...... didn't really know what the Bowtruckle was feeling but something told him that this one didn't like him. Like, at all. Or didn't like the food. Or was just naturally grumpy. Was this the Headmaster of Bowtruckles? Because it looked like it wanted to give him detention on the spot.
His bit his lip and tried not to look away, just in case this sent the Bowtruckle off but it was no use because next minute.....
"OWWW!"
....... Uh, wait, wasn't he partnered with a cool kid? "I mean....." He cleared his throat. "that..... didn't really hurt......."
Flustered, the first year moved his hand to ANOTHER unmarked branch. One higher up and away from the grumpy Bowtruckle and its sharp pokes. Théo had said not to feel too rejected if one rejects you but he couldn't help it. Was he that bad at luring Bowtruckles?! He didn't understand but one thing he knew was that it wasn't supposed to take THIS long to lure one of the tree-dwellers. Maybe it was.... the wrong day? Yeah. Maybe they could come back another day to try out this process and-
Was that another Bowtruckle?!
It was hard to tell because of all the leaves but he was sure he was seeing a curious little face. Trying not to think about what happened last time, Lucas smiled, just in case that helped to convince the Bowtruckle. Not a wide beam, but a shy, sheepish smile because that was all he could manage right now. There was a pause from the Bowtruckle before it moved closer....
..... and closer......
.......... and started eating the woodlice.
Lucas sighed in relief and even looked back at Théo. Was he SEEING this?! Turning back to the Bowtruckle, he decided to give it a fair egg as well just because it had been a good little Bowtruckle who wasn't poking him. This was a good feeling, wasn't it? He turned to Théo, smiling widely because they were halfway there.
Juniper made sure that bowtruckle was well distracted as Tasha harvest the wood. No eyes lost here. This was really going well. The sixth year had kept her eyes out for other bowtruckles just in case. Nodding. ”Sure. That way I can harvest some wood too.” Now she would have a chance to do both.
She watched as the younger girl harvested the wood. ”You did great.” The girl was pretty smart for a first year. She was most impressed.
She slid the jar over to the younger girl and grinned. Nodding. ”There you go.” Then she looked up at the tree and bowtruckle making sure that it was safe for her to get close to the tree to harvest a piece of wood. Once she was there she raised her wand, and severed off some of the tree. There now she had done both parts.

While Madison was harvesting the wood from the tree, Abra made sure not to move too far away from it. Even with the lure of food keeping their bowtruckle occupied, he wasn't sure how it would react to being taken too far away; sure, their eyes were protected, but those fingers looked like they could deliver a good set of scratches if they so desired.
Abra kept one eye on Madison's progress as she worked on the tree, but mostly focused on keeping the bowtruckle satisfied. When the number of woodlice in his hand started to dwindle, he opened up the jar he still held and retrieved a couple of fairy eggs, and offered them up to the creature. It was sure to be filling its tiny little stomach reasonably well.
Upon seeing that Madison was finished, Abra shuffled a little closer to the branch again. Initially, his thoughts were that he didn't want to keep the bowtruckle away from its tree for any longer than absolutely necessary. But then another thought occurred to him; the creature seemed happy enough to sit there in his hand, munching away. Abra looked towards Madison. "Did you want to give it a fairy egg or two before we return to to the tree?" he asked, holding out the jar with his non-bowtruckle-occupied hand.

With the bowtruckles still occupied and the activity finished, Madison was quite happy. They had been told there were ten minutes left, so it was more than good timing on their part seeing how short the lessons were.
She smiled then wondered what to do with the remaining wood from the branch. Well, she could maybe get another two more pieces out of it and Professor Wayland hadn’t told them there was a limit... Madison figured it made sense just to cut up the remaining piece and add it to the container as well. Another severing spell was used, and she picked up the pieces off the ground. Now there were three bits of wand wood.
After placing them in the designated container, she made her way back to Abra. ”Sure!” She extracted a fairy egg from the jar and slowly held it out to the bowtruckle. She watched as it eagerly ate it all up. ”Back into your tree you go now.”

"Thank you. It's one of the few charms I can do consistently." she admitted, then quickly took an egg and offered it to the Bowtruckle. "It's alright little one." she giggled happily when he accepted the egg. "I definitely need one or ten of you little sweeties!" She poured a couple woodlice into her palm to keep him distracted while Juni harvested her piece of wood.

"I would squish you flat," Chloe replied absently, since she wasn't interested in climbing on her partner. She was interested in how well Lizzie did at attracting that adorable little bowtruckle. He... or she... was a darling little thing, maybe younger than some of the others and thus more willing to be wooed out of the tree.
"I can reach with my wand, honestly, but thank you. Just keep feeding that cutie with the woodlice. Maybe give it a name?" Chloe smiled at the younger girl as she eased past her to the tree. Sleeves pushed up, Chloe reached her wand toward the branch from which the bowtruckle had emerged. Just a little magical trim, basically a haircut, and Chloe had her sample of wand wood in hand.

Hmm.
Yup. He had totally been watching.
And honestly, Natalie was doing so well with the creature that Derf was tempted to go back to the trees and collect a bit of woodlice as well. Though he also knew not to test one's luck with the creatures, or any creatures for that matter, and thus remained right where he was. A giddy sort of grin crossed his features when he saw the bowtruckle shift over to his own hands and diligently collect a few woodlice. "That's because this one is a male," he chuckled a bit. Partly why he was entirely on the ground like he was, making himself even less of a threat since it had taken a liking to Natalie. Which, well, made him thinking about things after Hogwarts again...and what was best for Picketta.
Mostly docile, Derf chattered his teeth a bit to try and speak with the bowtruckle...but it wasn't having much of it. Simply wanted to eat what woodlice the Hufflepuff had to offer and then be on its merry way.
Hearing the call of ten minutes, his blue eyes shifted over to Natalie and smiled. "Reckon we ought to get this guy back to the trees then. He may listen if you tell him too."

Lizzie nodded to Chloe and continued administering woodlice to the Bowtruckle. A name. She hadn't thought of naming it. Was it a him or a her? Could you tell?
"How about Bowie, like the Muggle musician. Not sure if you're a boy or girl but you seem to like music at least." she spoke to the little creature as Chloe successfully procured wand wood from the tree. They'd successfully completed their first assignment!
"Awesome!" she cheered, moving to high five Chloe. "Teamwork!"

Seeing the a smaller Bowtruckle took Nettie's offer she smiled. Reaching her hand gently through the branch and took the wood under the branch that was under the Bowtruckle. "There! I got it!" she said happily. "Aw...it's so cute, good job!" she said.
Nettie grinned as she watched Stella reach up and grab the branch right underneath the bowtruckle she'd just given the egg to. "Great job!" she exclaimed. That had been easier than she anticipated! Now she knew why so many people loved bowtruckles. They were ADORABLE.
She looked around and took another handful of wood lice and then looked up, spotting a little bowtruckle peering at her with interest a few branches away. She sat up and held out the offering for the bowtruckle, and waited until it slowly started to approach again. It grabbed the wood lice, and she held out a fairy egg for it after that. The bowtruckle accepted her other gift - with a lot less GUSTO than the last one, she might add - and the coast was clear for Stella to grab another branch.

Tristan watched with his students as the all successfully lured the Bowtruckles. He was so ridiculously proud of them, and amazed that no one needed his help for this activity. It was a successful lesson!
It was also time to finish. He checked his watch, and with a sigh called out, "Time's up everyone! Make sure you return the Bowtruckles to their trees, return your kits underneath the blackboard. If you collected wood the collection bin is by the barn, and if you collected wood lice, bring the jar to me. Thank you all so much for a wonderful lesson, and I'll see you at our next one." He smiled, and with a flick of his wand, summoned a box to hold the wood lice containers.
OOC: Great job everyone! Thank you all so much for coming! I will leave the lesson open until sometime tomorrow afternoon so that everyone can finish up any last posts they need to and if you want to say bye to the Professor.
