Today's charms lesson takes place on a chilly Tuesday morning in December. Normally at this time of year, Professor Marchand would have his classroom decorated with paper snowflakes and festive cookies and hot cocoa for the students, but today, the walls and refreshment table at the back of the room are dull and empty, much like the professor's eyes. As you walk in, you'll find the desks arranged into four long rows. On top of each desk lies a dummy with realistic-looking cuts, some deeper than others, and broken bones. Perhaps they provide a clue to the lesson's subject?
A gaunt, sad-looking Professor Marchand stands in his usual place at the front of the room dressed entirely in black, with the exception of his blazing red tie. A steady patter of freezing rain beats against the windows, and a quick glance outside will reveal a sky as dark as the professor's attire. Luckily, Professor Marchand has kept the room warm with plenty of heating charms.
Behind Professor Marchand, the following message is written on the blackboard: Please DO NOT touch the dummies. Class will start shortly, so please take a seat anywhere and kindly keep the chatter to a minimum.
OOC: Welcome to the first OOC lesson of this term! Please make sure you're up to date on Professor Marchand's rules as well as the school rules. Class will start in ABOUT 24 HOURS (2:30 AM EDT Oct. 5) HAS STARTED!.

Maybe that is what was used to treat my wounds last year but I wouldn't know."
Daisy's hand was the first Gaston saw in the air. He listened intently to her answer, nodding in approval. "Very good, Miss Swann. That's exactly what Vulnera Sanentur does," he said, but his expression darkened at the mention of last term. The memories of that night came rushing back... creatures clawing at him, students crying, the great hall on fire. He shook his head, trying to force the bad memories deep down where they belonged. Was there a theme or something going on lately in these lessons? Healing potions and now healing charms. Seemed like all the professors wanted to make sure the students could take care of an injury.
Rylee raised her hand when it was her turn, "Episkey may be helpful. It's good with healing small injuries and broken bones."
Before Gaston could become too lost in his traumatic thoughts, he saw Rylee's hand. He called on her, secretly grateful for the distraction. Her answer also earned a nod. "Excellent, Miss Prichard," he replied.

As Gaston glanced out at the students, his eyes momentarily fell on Skyler. He waited a moment to see if she would raise her hand, but it seemed the girl had nothing to say. That was alright. Unlike some people at this school, Gaston would never berate a student for not having an answer. Maybe she'd have something to add later on. He gave her a very small encouraging smile before moving on.

The man’s demeanour, while not unnoticed, was of little consequence to her. This wasn’t a happy term. To see a professor bouncing around with glee would have been off putting to say the least and would’ve sent her stomach churning something fierce.
This was okay.
Jessa took her seat when instructed to and spared a glance over at the dummies. They’d received notice too but they were also given little thought. The nature of the lesson was obvious but the man teaching it gave her little hope it would be in a way her own mind would appreciate it.
The Head Girl had long accepted that most lessons would leave her feeling under-stimulated.
“The suturing charm would be useful for deep gashes.” She sounded almost bored, her gaze set on the window she’d chosen to sit by. She remembered the last time some form of stitching charm was taught by the man. Halloween. He’d been appalled by her suggestion. It left her reluctant and disinterested in answering most times these days for questions of opinion. The man seemed to care very little for hers and she supposed she couldn’t blame him.
Was Gaston just imagining things or did Jessa seem a little distracted? Not that he blamed her at all... if this term was even half as hard on her as it was on him, she must have a lot on her mind! A familiar pang of guilt gripped his heart, just as it always did when he looked at her, and his thoughts went back to that day several terms ago. He regretted the way he acted as soon as it happened... he was just caught off guard and on edge because of the intrusion from the BoG. He feared the visitor would've found the subject disturbing and judge him harshly had he not reacted... but instead, he lost the ability to engage his student forever.
This time, he wasn't shocked that her mind went there and gave her an approving nod. "It most certainly would," he agreed, smiling slightly. "Thank you for answering, Miss Cambridge."

Stella raised her hand. " W...What about Reparifors isn't it a healing spell that reverts minor magically-induced ailments?" Stella asked biting her lip. After the other Professor's cold reply she was afraid to answer questions but she knew how kind Professor Marchand was, so she wasn't that scared. This was probably one of the classes she could relax in besides Herbology and CoMC.
Poor Stella! Gaston's heart went out to her; he knew how hard this term was for her! Her lip biting was immediately noticed, and he gave her a quick sympathetic look. Her answer even got a smile from him... a very small sad one, but it was there. "Yes, indeed it is," he replied with a nod. Not one of the spells they would be practicing today, but a correct answer nonetheless. "Very good, Miss Starson."

Right after Professor Marchand had told him to put it back in his bag. ”Thanks.” She was close enough to reach over and grab the mirror, look her at herself and place it into her bag. Healing charms… of course. she listened to the professors question before she raised her hand, ”The Bandaging Charm is used to bandage and splint broken bones, and it’s said to help with pain too.”
Blink, blink. Gaston was officially confused by the collection of items on Slate's desk. He watched as Juni grabbed the mirror and put it away. So that was her mirror? Then what was Slate doing with it? Never mind... as long as it wasn't a two-way mirror and it was put away like he asked, he didn't need to know. But onward... Oh, bandages! Juni was the cleverest. "I know the spell to conjure bandages! It's Inurio Bani." And she was having to practice it a lot lately.
Gaston retutned Chloe's smile with a much smaller, slightly sad one. He wasn't surprised that she'd chosen not to continue thier conversation, but even so, just the fact that she'd talked to him at all gave him a small glimmer of hope that Julian Scrimgeour hadn't yet snuffed out all the kindness at Hogwarts. When he saw her hand go up, he called on her and listened to her answer, nodding approvingly. "A useful spell to know," he said. "very good, Miss Kettleburn."
Gaston's eyes scanned the room for any more hands in the air. Nothing? Okay, then... moving on. "Nice job, everyone," he said, addressing the students as a group. "All of the spells mentioned would be useful in healing the dummies, but just to recap..." With a wave of his wand, the following words appeared under the heading on the blackboard:
Quote:
Vulnera Sanentur - heals large wounds
Episkey - heals minor injuries & small broken bones
Suturing Charm - stitches deep gashes
Reparifors - heals minor magically-induced ailments
Bandaging Charm - bandages & slints broken bones; reduces pain
Aguamenti - can be used to clean/flush out wounds
Inurio Bandi - conjures bandages
"We'll come back to this list later, but for now we'll focus on these two spells..." he continued, underlining Episkey and the Bandaging Charm. "As Miss Prichard mentioned, Episkey is used to heal minor injuries - shallow cuts, split lips, things of that nature - and small broken bones - fingers, toes, nose." He paused a moment to give time tor that information to sink in before going on, "To cast, move your wand in a downward diagonal line, and say the incantation, 'Eh - PIS - kee;." He aimed his wand at one of the dummies' broken fingers, make the correct wand movement, and said the incantation; the misaligned finger shifted back into its proper place.
Had everyone been paying attention to that demonstration? Good. "It should be noted that a larger, more serious broken bone, like an arm or leg, is more difficult to treat magically and requires a different spell. Treating a large broken bone can be dangerous when done incorrectly; some of the complications include bones accidentally being misaligned or completely removed. So, let's say you find yourself or a friend with a large broken bone and not a healer in sight. You don't want to risk mending the bones incorrectly, so what can you do to help?"
Gaston gave the class a moment or two to consider the situation before going on, "In that case, you should use the Bandaging charm, as Miss Primeaux mentioned earlier, as a temporary measure until you can seek professional help. The Bandaging charm differs from the spell Miss Kettelburn mentioned in that it is used primarily for broken bones, while Inurio Bandi can be used for other types of injuries. Inurio Bandi only produces the bandage, while the bandaging charm also splints the wound and eases pain. The casting is fairly simple. All you have to do is tap the target - lightly - and use the incantation Ferula..."He deomonstrated the spell on the leg of another dummy. "Fer-ROOL-lah." He tapped the dummy's leg. a long bandage shot out of the tip of his wand and wound itself around the leg.
When that was done, he addressed the class once more, "Your first activity is to treat the dummies using Episkey and Ferula. Use Episkey on the minor cuts and broken toes, fingers, and noses. Use Ferula on all the other broken bones. Please leave the deeper gashes alone for now! We'll be coming back to those. If you have questions, raise your hand, and I'll come to you. Begin... NOW!"
OOC: This is the start of the main activity. As Gaston said, treat the dummies' broken bones and minor cuts with Episkey and Ferula, but leave the deep gashes alone. You may work in groups or alone, but every person must attempt both spells for full credit. Gaston and I will be checking in periodically, so if you have questions/need help, please indicate in the title of your post, and we'll get back to you. You have 4 DAYS (2:30 AM EDT Wed. Oct. 10) to complete the activity.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Despite having his notebook and muggle pen at the ready, Dorian had not written any notes. The reason was because he already knew most of these charms. He had never used them before except for the aguamenti one, but he had read about them on multiple occasions.
So the Ravenclaw put his supplies back in his bag after the activity was announced and he put his hand in his robe to take out his acacia wand. He stood up from his place and walked over to one of the dummies, eyeing the pretty obvious injuries on it wondering which ones would be easiest , even for him, to heal. The wand movement was luckily easy to do, just a soft tap on the area.
Dorian walked around the dummy, looking for a place to use the episkey charm at first. He had decided to first treat the cuts and such and then the broken places as it would be difficult to find the cuts when they were covered in bandages.
Deciding on working on the dummy's right arm at first, the fourth year lifted up his wand, pointed it at one of the smaller cuts, moved it downwards and said; "Episkey" to his absolute surprise, the charm .....worked! Dorian watched as the small cut healed instantly with his mouth slightly open. He had not thought that it would work on the first time. Normally he had to practise a spell even after classes had finished and he was studying in the common room.
Feeling a massive burst of pride, Dorian looked around as if it say 'did you see that?!' but kept quiet. A small smile that was slowly getting bigger was forming on his lips as he searched for another injury. Had his practises paid off or had he FINALLY found something he was good at? Whichever it was, the Ravenclaw was in a good mood again.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Daisy saw the look on Professor Marchand's face and she felt guilty. All she could do was give the Charms teacher an apologetic look. She grabbed her quill and parchment and wrote down the list of healing charms that had appeared on the blackboard.
Once she had done that, Daisy grabbed her wand and began to practice the right wand technique for Episkey. Having heard the pronunciation of the Healing Charms during her stay at St Mungo's last year that she felt confident enough to practice the wand movement only. Daisy began moving her wand in the downwards diagonal line that Professor Marchand had demonstrated to the class. She practised twice more before she felt ready to perform the spell on the dummy in front of her.
Daisy saw that "her" dummy had a broken right index finger so she aimed her wand at the injured digit, moving it in a downwards diagonal motion as she said clearly, "Episkey!" Within seconds, the dummy's right index finger was in the correct position.
Noticing that the dummy's left leg was contorted at a rather peculiar angle, which was a sure indicator of a broken limb, Daisy tapped the dummy's left leg, clearly saying, "Ferula!" The desired result (the leg being back in the proper place) was achieved within moments.

First the bandaging, then the bruise paste and now healing charms. It seemed to be something of a theme this term and Max hoped it was just a coincidence and that this wasn't the Professors' way of .... preparing them for something.
After jotting down a few notes, Max drew his wand and took a moment to study his dummy. There were a few minor injuries here and there, a couple of shallow cuts and what looked like a broken nose.
"Episkey!" He moved his wand diagonally over the dummy's nose and watched at it clicked back into place. No more wonky dummy nose.
There was definitely a wonky arm that needed fixing though. As instructed, Max tapped his wand lightly on the dummy's arm and this time concentrated on casting the charm non-verbally.
Ferula Ferula Ferula.

"okay dummy... you better not be programmed to scream or attack or anything" he was feeling very skeptical about all these classes but hey... these could come in handy.
twirling his wand in his hand he thought of the Episkey and how it was properly pronounced. it was a good thing he was doing this one because this shady looking dummy had some twisted fingers and his nose was surely broken.
moving his wand in a downward diagonal manner he said "Episkey" and just like that the wand that was pointed towards the dummys nose moved back into position... hes never broken his nose before so he wondered if the spell actually hurt someone to put the nose back into place.. "ewwwwwww" he shuddered just thinking about it. but he was happy that the dummy didnt make any noise while it got corrected.
now time to fix those fingers dude because they were just looking horrible.
"Episkey" doing the movement again he fixed this guys fingers.
CL then sat down infront of his dummy and started to assess the bigger problems he was having
"having a hard day there bud?" he spoke to it while thinking of the the incantation "Fer-ROOL-lah"

Most of the man’s words found their way to her ears with her eyes still set out the window. It wasn’t until he said they could begin working on the dummies that her attention returned to the classroom and indeed her patient laying on the table.
The wounds looked real, to their credit but there was still a very crucial element missing. Jessa drew her wand as she looked the dummy up and down. This just wouldn’t do.
Wordlessly, Jessa animated her dummy and watched its chest begin to heave up and down in simulated breathing. Seconds later, the dummy pulled itself up into a sitting position, and turned to face her, ready for instruction. ”Arms out.” The Head Girl waited patiently while the dummy—Ted, he looked like a Ted—extended his arms for her to examine. She turned and lifted them as needed to get a better look at the injuries.
Until the point at which she started working with cadavers, it seemed more prudent to have a moving subject.

CL thought he should name his dummy atleast, dude kind of looked like a Chad. "okay Chad.... seems like you got something broken in your arm and as well as this knee doesnt look to great" he got up and moved closer, to make sure thats all he was missing and yup, that looked like all of the things he could help with..
For some reason it did seem like it was weird that he had to tap the area first with the wand.. if this was a person that wouldnt be cool, but hey he didnt make the rules.
he stopped moving the wand in his and and tapped Chads arm and said :Fer-ROOL-lah" and he didnt even wait for anything to happen because he heard the sound of things popping out of the air and wrapped around Chads arm and it was bandaged and splinted, and he bent quickly to Chads knee and tapped it too and said the words again "Fer-ROOL-lah" and that too made a sound while things were happening.
"okay looks good to me" for a second there he almost high fived the dummy, that would have been a bad move especially if someone was actually paying attention to him.

Uhhhh, Natalie had kind of been zoning out. She knew they were talking about healing charms, because it was obvious that the dummies were wounded.. and they were in Charms class. Her attention was grabbed when Professor Marchand began talking about the two spells they'd be working with today. Luckily, she had paid attention in time.
Episkey was easy enough. Ferula was harder, but she had practiced that one before, so it wouldn't be too hard to get these dummies back in working order.
Speaking of working order... Natalie was again temporarily distracted by the dummy that Jessa had made come to life. It was amusing and very much not surprising. Only she would do that...
Turning her attention back to her damaged dummy, Natalie pulled out her wand and looked over the dummy for the small cuts and booboos. "Episkey," she said, tapping each area lightly with her wand. She repeated the motion and watched the small wounds heal.
For the larger wounds, she would need a different spells. For the broken arm and broken leg... Ferula would work. Natalie stepped back and cleared her throat. "Ferula," she commanded, pointing her wand at the broken leg. And she was glad, when the bone snapped back into place. But... should it have snapped? That seemed awfully painful... Maybe she wasn't doing it right.
Arthuria looked down at her dummy and cleared her throat a little as she pointed her wand at the dummys nose. "Episky!" she said in a clear, confident voice. The nose shifted back into place and Arthuria felt a surge of confidence swell inside of her. She pointed her wand at the other cuts repeated the spell, once or twice having to correct her pronunciation. When she got to the broken leg she spoke the second "Fer-Ooh-La" she said pronouncing it carefully and smiled as the leg mended. She looked around to see how her classmates were doing.
She had still not gotten the courage to speak to many besides Lizzie and on occasion Derf. She liked her Charms Professor, but he did seem a little sad as of late and she wished she could help in some small way. [/COLOR]

"Hello Professor Marchand," Hanna replied as he greeted her. There ya go Scrimgeour, she remained silent until spoken to. She took in the door lock, and felt somewhat more relaxed. At least there would be an announcement if Mr Headmaster decided to poke his unwanted head in on the lesson. Taking the instruction, Hanna sat in her chair.
She nodded as the subject of healing charms was spoken. It would be an exciting lesson, then! Hanna enjoyed learning about healing, even if it was in no way the career she'd choose for herself. She took the moment to look at the dummy and try to figure out a quick and thorough way to assess it. She jotted some thoughts in her mind, but remained silent and took everything her classmates said down in her mind too, and once Professor Marchand put them all on the board, Hanna wrote them all down on a piece of parchment titled 'Charms'.
Having never used either of the spells, Hanna wrote down what was being said. The incantations and how to pronounce them, and the wand movements, as well as what they actually did. And no, she certainly didn't want to risk further damage by attempting to heal something that was much too far out of her scope. The bandaging charm sounded pretty neat, being that it bandaged, splinted, and relieved pain.
Hanna pulled out her wand and stood up to take the dummy in again. Right, so she was looking for some of the minor cuts, broken toes, and fingers, and some other bigger broken limbs. There was a small cut to the dummy's cheek, and Hanna said "eh-PIS-kee," whilst moving her wand down in a diagonal line. At first, nothing happened. She tried the words a few times, and wordless wand movements to practice. After a few minutes she went back to the dummy. "eh-PIS-kee," she cast again, moving her wand in a downward diagonal line. The cut was smoothed over and seemed to vanish. With a smile, she performed the spell on a few more of the shallow cuts and grazes she saw on the dummy, before moving to some of the smaller broken bones. There looked to be two broken toes, and three broken fingers. "eh-PIS-kee," she said, pointing to the smallest of the broken toes, with a downward diagonal movement from her wand. With a bit of a sickening crunch, the broken toe straightened out and appeared healed. With a small shudder from the sound, she went to work fixing the other toes and fingers.
Once that was done, it was time to have fun with the bandaging charm. "fer-ROOL-lah," she said a dozen times, slowly at first, and then with more confidence. The wand movement was a simple tap, which Hanna practiced a few times before trying it out for real, on what looked like a broken upper arm. She cleared her throat, pointed her wand towards the break and said "fer-ROOL-lah," and gave the arm a tap with her wand. At first nothing happened, so she repeated it. The second time, bandages wrapped around both the limb and a splint. She couldn't assess whether the dummy was out of pain, however, because it was a dummy.

She had to admit, she was quite a bit more engaged now that she had a responsive patient. So much so that her classmates sitting about her all but disappeared. The Ravenclaw’s focus was on Ted while her mind idly made up various scenarios for how he could have come by his injuries. Perhaps he’d fallen down the ravine below the wooden bridge in an extra bit of gryffindoring. It wouldn’t surprise her, so many injuries and all. Ted could very well be a Gryffindor. Of course, knowing what she did, he could’ve been a Ravenclaw too.
His thirst for knowledge could’ve led him to his injuries, in which case she suspected he may have been very proud of himself should whatever he’d been trying to study been a success. What were a few cuts and scrapes in the pursuit of knowledge?
Jessa turned and raised his hands, wanting a full idea of what she was dealing with. When satisfied, she drew her wand and cast a few nonverbal “episkey” to get the smaller, less serious injuries sorted. “Arms down, left leg up.” The Head Girl was methodical as she worked, treating Ted as she would any of her other test subjects in need of repair. He sorta reminded her of her dolls—loosely. His texture and level of mobility couldn’t compare as that would require far more work than just the animation charm, but there was still something about him.
After a quick assessment of the leg, Jessa cast another, nonverbal “episkey” followed soon after by a bandaging charm as required. Not quite good as new, but that would also require a bit more than what was expected in this charms room and would take a bit of time.

OKAY, healing a dummy. Got it. Chloe propped her chin on her fist and gazed down at her patient. It was obviously very injured and required immediate medical attention. "Hello, there, I'm your Healer. My name is Chloe. I'm very sorry you're feeling unwell."
She lifted a free hand to feel the forehead of the dummy. Hmmm, room temperature. Appeared to be dead. "You're a bit cooler than I'd prefer. Can you tell me where it hurts? No? Perhaps you've bitten off your own tongue? Or gone unconscious. Dreadful." Chloe leaned in to examine the fake wounds up close. Double dreadful.
"I'd like to start with your worst wounds, but unfortunately, the Head Healer says not now." That would be the professor. Chloe pointed out one of the shallower cuts instead. "Episkey." And... healed? Hm. Try again. "EPISKEY." There we go. "Better at all, dear?"
Okay so healing a dummy. This should be fun. Skyler stood up and looked the dummy that she chose. She made a face. Eee. This looks horrible. She bit her lip taking a breath and raised her hand.
"Scuse me, Professor Marchend? May I be excused for a minute?" She asked. Yeah. The look of the dummy was making her feel queesy.

Gaston moved between the rows of desks, his cane click-clacking against the floor as he went. He saw Daisy and Maxton having quick success with the spells and gave both prefects an approving nod. "Very good, Miss Swann," he said. "You too, Mr. Carden."
Elsewhere, it looked like Arthuria was catching on too. He was impressed! Not many first years could master healing spells so fast. "Nicely done, Miss Ambrosius!" he said, managing a small smile for her. And Natalie was progressing nicely as well. "Good job, Miss McKinley," he said, "and don't worry, the snapping is normal."
The sound of another spell being cast caused Gaston's dark head to whip around... just in time to see Dorian successfully cast Episkey. The sight of the smile on the Ravenclaw's face made it impossible not to smile along with him. "Well done, Mr. Katharos!" he said, beaming. It seemed all his practice was paying off!
Gaston's expression darkened slightly as he watched Hannah try and fail to cast one of the spells. For a moment, he worried she might get frustrated and quit, but before he had time to sidle over to her desk to offer an encouraging word or helpful advice - he wasn't as fast as he used to be! - she'd already cast the spell herself. He beamed. "Great job, Miss Newton! I knew you could do it," he said.
He overheard Christoper and Chloe talking to their dummies and almost laughed... almost, but not quite. It never failed to warm his heart to see his students showing kindness... even if it was kindness to an inanimate object. "Great work, Mr. Lee and Miss Kettleburn! How are your patients doing?" he said with a joking smile.
Blink, blink. Gaston could only stare at Jessa's animated dummy for a minute, unsure whether he should be amused or panicked. If that's what worked for her, he was okay with it... but somehow he didn't think Scrimgeour would be. Apprehensive eyes darted toward the door. Despite the locking charm in place, he half-expected the headmaster to barge in at any moment, and he knew the old man would find a way to use it against her. But if he asked her to un-animate the dummy, he'd lose her interest. He was so wracked with conflict that he almost forgot to praise her spellwork. "Excellent, Miss Cambridge," he said somewhat absentmindedly.
Before he could decide what to do about the dummy, he saw Skyler's hand in the air. His face fell as once again, conflict buzzed in his mind... great, just what he needed. He didn't want to deny her request if she had a legitimate reason for needing to leave, but he knew if he let her go and she encountered Scrimgeour or one of his cronies, it would mean trouble for both of them, no matter what the reason was. He crossed the room to Skyler's desk. "Why? What's wrong?" he asked, his eyes widening with concern.

Jackson had been present of course, but had been busy scribbling notes during the first questions because he had finally realized how much he did NOT know about First Aid. Plus, honestly the vibe in the room was really bumming him out. Charms was one of Jackson’s favorite subjects, even if it wasn’t necessarily his best, but today’s lesson looked a bit uh… grim, really. He shrugged it off though because this stuff was so helpful at Hogwarts what with weird things happening like, all the time. You’d think they would have come up with a more powerful spell to defend themselves! Oh, magic was a crazy thing.
He had finished his notes and was surveying the dummies when the next instructions were given out. Yea, that had been expected considering what the dummies looked like right now. Blech. Jackson found a torn up looking dummy and began noting its injuries for his records. Today would have been a good day to have some of that bruise paste that they had made, huh?? It’s too bad that it was up in his dorm right now… He silently cursed himself for this but began healing with the spell he felt more familiar with. He looked at the broken nose first and considered it. After gathering his focus a bit more, he tried the spell out. “Episkey!” And with a pop similar to the one heard when someone Apparated, the nose cracked back to its ‘natural’ placement. Jackson cringed a bit at the sight, but it was immediately over. Yea… He was much more likely to be a patient than a Healer. He took a moment to survey the other students and seeing how they fared, but his eyes caught Jessa’s dummy and his eyebrows raised slightly of their own accord. Whoa. Yea, he hadn’t planned on animating his victim patient. Jackson brought his attention back to his dummy. Well, okay, his name was already chosen…
Jackson’s dummy’s name was Alfred. Alfred had tried to help, but he wasn’t very skilled in dueling apparently. Jackson looked over Alfred’s wounds again and went for any minor cuts he could find. “Episkey… Episkey!...Episkey!” Once these had been cleared up, it was time to address the elephant in the room… This broken jaw. The jaw was practically hanging off on one side if he was being honest and it was quite gruesome. “Ferula!” …nothing happened. The mangled jaw still lay limp at that odd angle. He sighed. Alright, let’s try this again. He closed his eyes trying to clear it of distractions.
Skyler frowned at his look but decided to ask anyway. She already put her hand up.
"It's just the site of the blood professor," she said.
"It's making me a bit queesy.
Really Juniper was enjoying all of these healing lessons that seem to be some sort of theme this term. She had considered being a healer after Hogwarts or a cursebreaker. She had possibly narrowed it down to the two. She could do both though right? If she wanted to be in school for forever. As much as she liked learning and being in school she wasn’t sure if she wanted to still be in school when she was like thirty. Through it would be cool to be a healer cursebreaker. She wondered how many of those were around. But just learning as many healing spells, and potions and stuff would come in handy for cursebreaking too.
The sixth year heard her best friend Chloe talking to the dummy like it was her patient. To sounded like she would make a healer too. So if she wanted to be a healer she should work on her own bedside manor as well. Since she had a chance to do so. She looked over to Chloe and flashed her a smile. ”Hello, Mr. Dummy. I’m healer Juni.” She held her hand out and shook the dummies good arm.
Clearly the left arm was broken, along with it’s nose, maybe a finger and the right leg. Also a possible sprained ankle. There were plenty of cut to minor and some deep gashes. ”You have done quite a number on yourself, sir. Maybe next time you should take the elevator?” Surely that was what caused this, a nice tumble down the stairs. ”Well I’ll have you up and back on your feet in no time.” Patting the dummy on the shoulder.
Juniper started on the major things, First she worked on the broken arm. ”Ferula.” As she lightly tapped the dummy’s arm. But nothing happened. ”Ferula!” She tapped on the broken arm lightly again. This time the bandages shot out of her wand and wrapped itself around the arm of the dummy. She did the same with the dummy’s leg. Just this time she casted a nonverbal ferula on the leg. Feeling like she wanted to try it nonverbally this time.
Next she moved to the minor breaks, and shallow cuts. First she focused on the broken nose. Doing the wand movement for a downward diagonal line and said ”Episkey!” The dummy’s nose straighten back up. Then she nonverbally casted episkey on minor cuts. Lastly since Juniper thought that maybe the ankle was sprained too. With a swooping motion of her wand, She said ”Inurio Bandi.” and a long bandage materialized out of the end of her wand. She took the bandage and wrapped it around the dummy’s ankle.

If Derf could have had things his way...he would have preferred that his dummy be in the form of a creature - kneazle or crup perhaps - since that was more in accordant to what he wanted to do in life. That and, er, seeing a body lady on the table with open wounds and such was a bit triggering - all things considered. Thankfully, unlike in his second year, he was able to somewhat separate the two things. This was not the aftermath of the inferi and he was safe. Though he did have to go through his list inside his head on re-centering himself. That is...until he heard Jessa coolly command someone to hold their arms out and his head did a sloooooooow turn towards her.
And NOW his stomach dropped a little, his mind unfortunately spiraling to other things that she animated and .......... reanimated. Derf was mostly tolerable of the whole thing and had even befriended her kneazles. But...in light of last term...he just did not see how it was right for necromancy to continue within the walls of Hogwarts. Or, honestly, why it had been okay in the first place.
Eyes wide and staring at his friend, Derf had to start over with his list and struggled a bit this time as he forced his face back to the dummy he needed to work on. Somewhere in between everything managing to drop his wand, so he quickly bent down to pick that up before returning his eyes to the dummy to assess everything. A few deep breaths later and the Hufflepuff was diligently casting Episkey's along the small gashes and fingers bend at awkward angles - the popping noise they made as they returned to their natural position being a little nauseating and honestly reminded him of the noise his wrists had made while at the mercy of the inferius' grip.
....could he have a creature dummy?

Taking a step back he took a look at his work. Nodding in approval he heard the professor talking to him, still strange to hear Mr. Lee but he'll take it..
"ohhh Chad?" he pointed his thumb over to the dummy.
"I think I have him sorted for now, thanks Professor" he said with a little smile. surprisingly this class wasnt going as bad as he thought it would be.

Derf wasn't looking well, and honestly, he probably needed a healer more than the dummies did. Chloe reached out hand and wiggled her fingers to get his attention. "You can be my partner, Derfy. You can be my intern. Maybe practice your bedside manner." AKA, practice not passing out, maybe practice putting his head between his knees and breathing deeply.
She turned her attention back to her patient, giving the dummy's hand a squeeze. "Let's move on to that arm. It's looking very painful and I am allowed to set that. It might hurt a tiny bit, but it'll be so much better when I"m done." Chloe pointed her wand. "Ferula." This one worked just fine.

Arthuria's cheeks blazed with color at the compliment "Thank you Professor!" she said feeling a surge of confidence sweep through her. She liked learning about Healing.

Chase turned his attention towards the broken dummy in front of him. He frowned, knowing all too well what it felt like to be somewhat broken. But.. broken in a different sense. He had had broken bones before and cuts and scrapes but recently... his happiness in Hogwarts had been broken and it was getting harder and harder to keep a somewhat positive outlook here. Certainly not under Scrimmy's iron fist.
SPOILER!!: textbook
Vulnera Sanentur - heals large wounds
Episkey - heals minor injuries & small broken bones
Suturing Charm - stitches deep gashes
Reparifors - heals minor magically-induced ailments
Bandaging Charm - bandages & slints broken bones; reduces pain
Aguamenti - can be used to clean/flush out wounds
Inurio Bandi - conjures bandages
After finishing writing his notes, he glanced at the dummy and examined the cuts that it had. He winced when he saw a very DEEP gash on its thigh. Ooh if it had blood, it would certainly be in a life-threatening situation. "Looks like you got into an awful fight with some creature...." he muttered as he cast, "Augmenti", followed by "Ferula" on the dummy's gash. It took him two times to successfully cast the spell. "We'll come back to that gash later... First let's look for anything broken... Does anything hurt?" he asked before rolling his eyes. Spenley. You're talking to a dummy, mate. He shook his head, sighing, and then continued to inspect the dummy's body until he noticed something protruding from the dummy's arm. Was that a bone? It was almost popping out of the dummy's body. He winced at the thought.
"This may hurt a little.... but bear with me..." He readied his wand. "Episkey." He heard a slight crack which made him shiver slightly but then he noticed that the bone was back in place. Eughh... The noise made that much worse. "Right..." he continued, paying no heed to that. What was next? That gash on the dummy's body?

He was fine. Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Just...a little bit of trauma flashing before his eyes. But otherwise fiiiiiiiiiiine. Though he did manage a weak smile for her at the offer - and the Derfy because it was a very Chloe thing and exclusively hers. "I have perfectly fine bedside manner," he grumbled, bit of a chuckle included. "Just..." And his eyes briefly flickered over to Jessa's animated dummy. The magic itself likely no different from Piertotum Locomotor, which was completely harmless, but he just...couldn't stop his mind from wandering. "Nothing. Never mind."
So, her assistant then? He reckoned he could manage that.
"Wish we had the option of a creature shaped one," he decided to finally voice aloud, figuring she of all people would get it. "Set a kneazles broken tail and stuff." Spotting another small gash in the dummy, he flourished his wand again for another Episkey to close it up.

Gaston beamed at Arthuria. Really, there were no thanks necessary! She'd earned every bit of the praise she got. The beam turned into a slight chuckle as he heard Christopher's reply. "Good! Glad to hear he's doing better," he said.
As he meandered between the rows, he noticed Juniper making quick work of the activity. The Ravenclaw captain's kind words to the dummy earned her a small smile, a smile that grew when he saw her nonverbal spellwork. "Excellent, Miss Primeaux - or, should I say Healer Juni?" he said, beaming. "Nice use of nonverbal magic!" And Chase was doing very well too. "Nicely done, Mr. Splenley!"
Elsewhere, he saw Derf making progress with Episkey, but now he seemed... stuck. Did he need help with Ferula? "Great work casting Episkey, Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne!" Gaston said as he approached the Hufflepuff. He quickly noticed he looked a little... ill, but before he could ask if he needed help, Chloe offered to pair up with him. He smiled. "Thank you for helping, Miss Kettleburn! You two let me know if you need help." Any other time - as in, when Hogwarts wasn't being run by a heartless lunatic - he would've awarded points for her kindness, but now he was too afraid to risk it. Knowing Scrimgeour, he'd probably interpret it as an act of defiance or some such nonsense.
He started to turn away when he overheard Derf mention a creature dummy. Say, that wasn't a bad idea! "I'll tell you what," he whispered near Derf's ear, "If you keep working on the human dummy like you have been, I'll give you a creature dummy for practice on your own. Deal?"
As Gaston's blue eyes scanned the room, he saw another student struggling with Ferula. "Need some help, Mr. Thomas?" he asked, appearing at the boy's side instantly. He studied the dummy's injuries. "Ooh... broken jaw. That can be tricky to splint." He looked at the injury again. "Try holding your wand at an angle like this..." He held his wand at an angle to match the dummy's broken jaw. "See if that works."
Gaston had barely finished helping the Ravenclaw prefect when he saw Skyler. His expression darkened. So that was why she wanted to be excused... now what was he going to do? He bit his lip, mentally weighing the options as his thoughts turned back to that disaster of a first day of SORE... how Scrimgeour refused to summon the healer or make exceptions for students with medical conditions. He heard he even reprimanded Foster for taking Kimi to the hospital wing! He was sure his fate would be the same, if not worse, if he let her go. He sighed sadly. "I'm sorry, Miss Queen. I'm afraid I can't let you leave class," he said, his eyes reflecting every ounce of guilt and conflict he felt. This was going against everything he believed in!
"If Headmaster Scrimgeour or one of his hires happened along, it would mean trouble for us both... but we can try to take care of you here," he said. "Here, sit over there..." He summoned a chair to the vacant refreshment table, facing away from the dummies. "You won't have to look at them until you're ready." He conjured a sheet and covered her dummy's injuries. "I'll cover this guy up for now, and we can try again when you feel better. I can even change the color of the cuts so it won't look like blood. Do you think you need an anti nausea potion?" He had some in a first aid kit under his desk. "If you're still feeling ill at the end of class, I'll take you to the hospital wing myself."
He was so busy tending to Skyler that he completely lost track of time. When he finally looked at his watch, there were only a few minutes remaining until they had to move on. "You have FIVE MINUTES LEFT!" he announced.
OOC: We'll move on in ABOUT 30 HOURS.

Reason: adding mention of Chase
Skyler nodded. She could handle. She peaked under the sheet after taking a few breaths. Okay. You can do this. You can do this. She sighed and took another breath as she took off the sheet. She nodded. ."I think I'm okay now sir," she said pushing through it as she looked away from the cuts and focoused on the broken bones instead.
"Episkey," she said and fixed a broken ankle bone. Skyler watched as it mended it self.
