| "The Flagrate Spell would not really have an effect on a Devil's Snare - it only works with paper, parchment and such - things that are stationary, that don't move. The Devil's Snare is sort of... wriggly," Professor Phoenix said. "Chaudensis warms things up, that's right, Nadia. Good idea, two points to Slytherin. However, I doubt it would be warm enough to have much of an effect on a sturdy Devil's Snare. Also, to answer your other question, Nadia: Why should we take care of Devil's Snares, seeing as to the fact that they ae so dangerous? Well, I'll answer with a counter question: Why take care of sharks, lions and tigers? Why take care of a worm?"
She smiled.
"Devil's Snare do have magical properties, but we will discuss them in a later class. For this lesson, we are not trying to take care of Devil's Snares - we are trying to defend ourselves against them.
"Has every got a plant? Easy now, pay attention to them. We will start with the proper incantation and wand movement before putting both together to work the spell Inflamare. Please do not start yet, you might do something wrong and set the whole greenhouse on fire."
Professor Phoenix tapped the board behind her with her wand and a piece of chalk floated up, writing the incantation on it. Inflamare
"As you can seem the proper incantation is Inflamare. The stress is on the ma. Please repeat after me, without your wands though: Inflamare."

"In-fla-MA-re," repeated Arkee, swishing her wrist without her wand. "Professor, where are Devil's Snare usually found, in terms of world locations? Also, do people grow them as ordinary houseplants for their own homes?"

"Devil's Snares are found pretty much everywhere, as long as it's cool enough. The year's temperature amplitude must be around only 10°C, with a maximum of about 15°C for it to grow. Plus, it needs water, lots of it. Basically, I doubt you would find any in Africa, or Mediterranean countries. Devil's Snares are usually not grown privately because they can get out of hand easily... they are too vicious."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Sirius Potter Fourth Year | Gryfflepuff Sirius practices saying the incantation with the wrist movement but without his wand. Once he is comfortable with it, he stops and listens to the others in the class while paying attention to the Professor.

"InflaMAre! Infla-MA-re!" Nadia tries along with the whole class " Inflamare"
Maybe she is stressing too much
" INFLAMARE!"
ooc: So you know, the Flagrate Spell was used on the doors of the department of Mysteries, OotP. couldn't tell if it weren't wooden doors but... EDIT: I know... let's just say, that I doubt a Devil's Snare woudl be still long enough for you to 'write' something on it in flames

Hey, you can hear the word flama in it, which is Latin for flame! "Exactly," Professor Phoenix said, smiling, glad that a student had made the observation. "And in Incendio, you have cendres, which is french for ashes."

| "In-fla-MA-re, easy enough. Inflamare. I like the way that sounds. We could do a lot of fun things with this spell," she says under her breath.
*Belle picks up her wand and prods the Devils Snare, which try to wind its way up her wand and onto her hand.* |

"And in Incendio, you have cendres, which is french for ashes." I think Incendio comes from 'Incendo' which means 'set fire' in Latin. Which intrigues me is the bluebell flame spell; it's name doesn't tell much of it, does it? I wonder why does it has such a name... maybe for the color it takes?
And in Spanish 'Incendio' is the noun for 'fire' (as in the fire on a building)
Eats humans??? *looks terrified at it, and backs away slowly*
How does it eats -- So I don't get my hand where I shouldn't

"In-Fla-Mare...Inflamare...cool...I think I've got it." she says staring at the devils snare in front of her, as she then writes the spell down underlining the emphasis on the ma.

"Professor," asked Arkee, "is it true that there's some other plant that, in it's young stage, looks very much like Devil's Snare? If so, how can we tell them apart, other than the fact that Devil's Snare tends to be grabby?"
